Middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) is an effective initial or adjuvant treatment for chronic subdural hematomas. However, its efficacy in the setting of spontaneous intracranial hypotension has not yet been reported. We present a case of progressive bilateral chronic subdural hematomas secondary to spontaneous intracranial hypotension that failed the initial lumbar epidural blood patch. The patient underwent surgical hematoma evacuation, with adjuvant MMAE and additional epidural blood patch, with good clinical and radiographic results. This case demonstrates the potential value of MMAE for chronic subdural hematomas secondary to spontaneous intracranial hypotension.

A empresa Triangulum Comunicação Ltda. é umas das maiores no segmento de comunicação de Portugal, vive o momento que a informação também gera dados e mais dados. Hoje o número de pageviews e o tempo de navegação do utilizador nos sites, são dois dos fatores mais importantes para a receita da Triangulum. Cada utilizador tem suas características de navegação, isso é de extrema relevância para a análise dos dados. Os artigos dos sites visitados têm sempre, ou quase sempre, uma referência, que pode ser um artigo, uma rede social ou até um mecanismo de pesquisa. Com essas informações iremos aplicar modelos de machine learning com o objetivo de fazer recomendações para os próximos artigos a serem lidos, de forma que o utilizador navegue pelos sites, desfrutando do conteúdo, atingindo maior tempo e mais pageviews. A coleta dos dados foi feita pela Triangulum, disponibilizando assim os dados de forma bruta. Após essa etapa de extrair, carregar e transformar, os dados armazenados no data lake são preparados e então partimos para a análise dos dados, será aplicado aos modelos de machine learning para a implementação do sistema de recomendação. O resultado é aplicado a cada artigo de todos os sites da Triangulum, ocupando parte do espaço disponível para as recomendações de leitura. The name Triangulum is presented as fictitious to preserve the company's data. The company Triangulum Communication Ltda. is one of the largest in the media segment in Portugal, experiencing the moment that information also generates data and more data. Today the number of pageviews and the user's time spent browsing the sites are so important for the company's revenue. Each user has their own navigation characteristic, this is extremely important for data analysis. The articles of the visited sites always have, or almost always, a reference, that can be an article, a social network or even a search engine. With this information we will apply machine learning models in order to make recommendations for the next articles to be read, so that the user navigates through the sites, enjoying the content, reaching more time and more pageviews. The data collection was done by the company, thus making the data available in a gross way. After this extract, load, and transform stage, the data stored in the data lake goes through a preparation phase before the data analysis, it will be applied to the machine learning models for the implementation of the recommendation system. The results are applied to each article on all company websites, taking up part of the space available for reading recommendations.

O objetivo desta dissertação recai sob o estudo de ácidos orgânicos como solventes alternativos para extração de compostos de valor acrescentado a partir de biomassa. Em particular, estudou-se a utilização de ácidos orgânicos e suas misturas aquosas na extração de dopamina e de rutina a partir de cascas de banana. O interesse na extração destes compostos deve-se às suas propriedades antioxidantes, antibacterianas e anticancerígenas, e ao seu consequente interesse pelas indústrias alimentar e farmacêutica. De salientar ainda, que as cascas da banana são um produto residual sem valor associado, constituindo assim uma matéria-prima praticamente sem custos e com um enorme potencial de biocompostos de valor acrescentado passíveis de serem extraídos. Para tal, efetuaram-se extrações do tipo sólido-líquido a partir de cascas de banana utilizando diferentes ácidos orgânicos e diferentes condições de extração, com o intuito de se verificar quais as melhores condições processuais, nomeadamente a maturação da banana, a temperatura de extração, o tempo de extração e a razão sólido-líquido, assim como o solvente (ácido orgânico) mais eficiente. Começou-se por estudar a extração da dopamina, constatando-se que a casca da banana verde foi a que apresentou uma maior quantidade de dopamina das três maturações em estudo. Posto isto, verificou-se que a mistura aquosa de ácido cítrico 50 (m/m) % foi a mais eficiente na extração de dopamina, obtendo-se 57,9 mg/100 g de peso seco de biomassa (PS) de dopamina. Em relação à extração da rutina, ao contrário do que se verificou com a dopamina, a casca de banana madura mostrou ser a mais rica neste biocomposto. Já em relação ao efeito dos ácidos orgânicos na extração da rutina, o ácido acético a 65 (m/m) % foi o mais eficiente, conseguindo-se extrair cerca de 200 mg/100 g PS de rutina. Posto isto, otimizou-se as condições de extração através de um planeamento experimental, sendo que para uma temperatura de 25 ºC, com um tempo de extração de 80 minutos e uma razão sólido-líquido de 0,06, conseguiu-se obter 238,5 mg/100 g PS de rutina. Para além disso, a recuperação e reutilização do solvente de extração também foram verificadas, contribuindo assim para o desenvolvimento de um processo sustentável. Em suma, esta dissertação demonstra que as misturas aquosas de ácidos orgânicos têm potencial para substituir os solventes orgânicos convencionais na extração de biocompostos a partir de fontes naturais, contribuindo assim para o desenvolvimento processos de extração mais eficientes e sustentáveis. The objective of this dissertation consists on the study of organic acids as alternative solvents for the extraction of added-value compounds from biomass. More specifically, organic acids and their aqueous mixtures were used to extract dopamine and rutin from banana peels. These compounds display important properties such as antioxidant, antibacterial and anticancer, that are relevant in food and pharmaceutical industries, and banana peels are a waste product without commercial value, being thus a raw material with virtually no cost and with a huge potential of value-added compounds able to be extracted. To this end, solid-liquid extractions were realized from banana peels using different organic acids and different extraction conditions, in order to verify which conditions are the best, namely banana ripening, extraction temperature, extraction time, solid-liquid ratio, and solvent used. Firstly, it was studied the dopamine extraction from peels with bananas of ripening different, verifying that the green banana peels were the richest in dopamine of the three maturations under study. Then, different organic acids and corresponding aqueous mixtures were used to extract dopamine, where aqueous mixture of citric acid 50 (w/w) %was the most effective, obtaining 57.9 mg/100 g of dry weight of biomass (PS) of dopamine. Regarding the rutin extraction, unlike what happened with dopamine, ripe banana peels proven to be more abundant in this biocompound. From all the organic acids used for the extraction of rutin, the aqueous mixture of acetic acid at 65 (w/w) % was the most efficient, being able to extract about 200 mg/100 g PS of rutin. Moreover, the extraction conditions were optimized through experimental planning. The optimal parameters for the extraction are a temperature of 25 ºC, with an extraction time of 80 minutes and a solid-liquid ratio of 0.06, translating in 238.5 mg/100 g PS of rutin extracted. In addition, the capability to recover and reuse the extraction solvent were also verified, contributing for the development of a sustainable process. In summary, this dissertation demonstrates that aqueous mixtures of organic acids have a potential to substitute the conventional organic solvents in the extraction of biocompounds from natural sources, thus contributing to the development of more efficient and sustainable extractive processes. RADIOFONIAS Extension Program has been held since 2015 at the Arts Center (CEART) of State's University of Santa Catarina (UDESC). RADIOFONIAS proposes itself as a space for experimentation, broadcast and archive of inventions on voice, sound art, experimental music, among other sound, vocal and musical projects, with the aim of stimulating an expanded listening. It aims to disseminate and to contextualizate the esthetical, historical and social elements of artistic sound productions that are alternative to the productions hegemonically broadcast on commercial and educational radio stations.&nbsp, O Programa de Extensão RADIOFONIAS é realizado desde 2015 no Centro de Artes (CEART) da Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina (UDESC). RADIOFONIAS propõe-se enquanto espaço de experimentação, veiculação e arquivo de invenções sobre voz, arte sonora, música experimental, entre outros projetos sonoros, vocais e musicais, com o objetivo de estimular uma escuta expandida. Busca-se a difusão e a contextualização estética, histórica e social de produções sonoras artísticas alternativas às produções hegemonicamente veiculadas em rádios comerciais e educativas.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2020-05-01 Background and objectives: Advances in medicine, including anesthesiology and resuscitation, have made natural death increasingly rare. As a consequence, dysthanasia has become usual in a scenario for which there is not rationale. The present study aimed to assess the level of knowledge of Brazilian anesthesiologists on the principles of dysthanasia and orthothanasia. Thence, we studied the management preferences of these professionals, vis‐à‐vis those practices, as well as how medical school contributed to addressing death‐related issues. Method: Quantitative approach, prospective and descriptive cohort that included 150 anesthesiologists, members of the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology, and who were invited to participate by email. An online questionnaire containing 38 questions was prepared by the authors. The study was approved by the Instructional Research Ethics Committee. Results: Anesthesiologists, although claiming to know dysthanasia and orthothanasia, mostly acquired knowledge outside medical school. If faced with their own end of care, or of a patient or a loved one, they prefer orthothanasia, to die at home, prioritizing dignity. However, the specialists claimed to have already practiced dysthanasia, even when orthothanasia was the choice management, which caused them negative feelings. Almost all respondents stated that they did not have practical training in undergraduate school on how to face end‐of‐life issues, although they felt capable of identifying it. Most were not aware of Federal Council of Medicine Resolution 1.805/06 that makes practicing orthothanasia feasible. Anesthesiologists’ religion or the political‐administrative region of residence had no effect on their preferences. Conclusions: Anesthesiologists claim to have knowledge on dysthanasia and orthothanasia, but prefer, in the face of a terminally ill patient, to practice orthothanasia, although dysthanasia is usual, and results in frustration and indignation. The medical school curriculum is unsatisfactory in addressing death‐related issues. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2019-11-01 Background and objectives: There are few data in the literature characterizing the pattern of analgesic use in Latin American countries, including Brazil. Little is known about the undertreatment of pain and its influence on the habit of self‐medication with analgesics. The aim of this study is to define the pattern of analgesic use among chronic pain patients and its potential association with self‐medication with analgesics. Method: Cross‐sectional observational study with an urban population sample. Chronic pain was defined as a pain lasting for at least 90 days. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the institution. Results: 416 subjects were included; 45.7% (n = 190) had chronic pain, with females (72.3%; p = 0.04) being the most affected. Self‐medication with analgesics is practiced by 78.4% of patients with chronic pain. The most common current analgesic treatment consists of non‐steroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (dipyrone and acetaminophen). Weak opioids are rarely used and only 2.6% of subjects with chronic pain were taking these analgesics. None of the subjects were taking potent opioids. Conclusions: The practice of self‐medication with analgesics is frequent among patients with chronic pain, which may be due to the underprescription of more potent analgesics, such as opioids. It can also be said that, given the data presented, there is no crisis of recreational opioid use in the studied population.
