PURPOSE: This study was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of placing fixed prostheses over endosseous implants in edentulous patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Three cases of dental implants with fixed prostheses are presented. All 3 patients had marked oral involvement, with devastating alterations in the soft and hard tissues. The use of fixed prostheses avoids contact between the prosthesis itself and the oral mucosa, thus preventing the formation of blisters. RESULTS: A total of 27 implants (15 maxillary and 12 mandibular) were placed. One maxillary implant failed; the rest integrated successfully, allowing crown placement. The average follow-up after implant placement was 3 years (range, 1 to 5 years). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that endosseous implants are not contraindicated and can be placed successfully to improve these patients' quality of life. Implants can provide support for complete fixed prosthesis restoration in patients with epidermolysis bullosa. This procedure keeps the prosthesis from rubbing on the oral mucosa and prevents the development of ulcerations, improving mastication and esthetics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is presently under installation at CERN, Geneva. The approximately 4000 superconducting corrector magnets required by the machine are powered through copper-stabilized Nb-Ti busbars. To interconnect the magnets along the machine, about 50 000 joints between superconducting cables rated at 600 A have to be performed in-situ during the interconnection activities. An ultrasonic welding technique has been developed and optimized by CERN which led to the development of a dedicated machine which was qualified during the assembly of the STRING II, a 110-m chain of cryomagnets assembled as a prototype of the LHC. The realization of the ‘series’ interconnections together with the procurement of the tooling based on functional specifications have been contracted to a consortium of firms. Qualification tests and acceptance criteria in terms of electrical contact resistance, mechanical resistance, reliability and reproducibility have been defined by CERN. This paper presents the tests and some results of the qualification process relevant to the industrialized tooling provided by the contractor. Aims: To investigate the sensitivity of the rate of pressure rise obtained by Doppler to changes in the inotropic state by comparing it to simultaneous invasive measurements of dP/dt under different conditions of contractility.Methods and Results: Mitral regurgitation was provoked in five pigs, and simultaneous measurements of dP/dt and the Doppler-estimated rate of pressure rise were made with a micro-manometer and with continuous-wave Doppler. Changes in the inotropic state were induced by drug infusion and by ischaemia. One hundred and twenty-seven simultaneous measurements were made with a correlation coefficient between the Doppler-estimated rate of pressure rise and dP/dt of 0·85 (P<0·001). Sensitivity to inotropic changes was estimated as the percentage change of each parameter in each condition of contractility, and showed that the Doppler-estimated rate of pressure rise had better sensitivity than dP/dt.Conclusion: The sensitivity of Doppler-estimated rate of pressure rise to changes in the inotropic state is greater than that of dP/dt. The correlation between the rate of pressure rise obtained by Doppler and dP/dt is maintained even in extreme conditions of contractility. Therefore, the rate of pressure rise can be considered a good parameter to assess linear changes of contractility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neuroblastoma (NB) is the most common extracranial solid cancer in children. Despite intensive multimodality treatment, long-term survival of patients with high-risk NB, which comprises more than half of all cases, remains poor. Nuclear medicine is key in diagnosis, staging, response assessment and long-term follow-up of NB. The emergence of novel tracers and the increasing complexity of studies require updated guidelines for nuclear medicine imaging in NB. Standardising diagnostic techniques are essential for improving study comparability and ensuring test quality. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of NB radionuclide diagnostic imaging, including its characteristics, accuracy, advantages, and limitations. It offers practical recommendations to multidisciplinary teams responsible for treating patients with NB.
