Abstract

The excellent characteristics of transparent hard materials such as high hardness, high transparency, corrosion resistance, and high temperature resistance enable their applications in microfluidic substrates even in harsh environments. Microchannels are important parts in microfluidic systems, and the preparation of microchannel structures in transparent hard materials deserves further in‐depth study. The traditional processing method is contact processing with large thermal influence and low processing efficiency, so it is impossible to obtain complex microchannels with high quality and high aspect ratio. The femtosecond laser processing is a non‐contact processing approach with no thermal damage, high processing accuracy, and easy to form complex microchannels, making it the best choice for processing microchannels in transparent hard materials. This work reviews the recent advances in femtosecond laser processing of transparent hard materials to form microchannel structures, focusing on the reaction mechanism, processing methods, and the obtained microchannel structures, including surface microchannels, 2D microchannels, and 3D microchannels. Furthermore, the application of microchannel structure in microfluidic field, including optical inspection and biochemical reaction, is also described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

With high‐temporal coherence and low‐phase noise, narrow‐linewidth lasers have important applications in spectroscopy, holography, and coherent detection. At present, ultra‐narrow‐linewidth lasing is generated by solid‐state, optical fiber, and semiconductor lasers, which serve as a good light source for scientific research and industrial applications. In this article, we summarize the fundamental techniques and review recent developments in narrow‐linewidth lasers. Moreover, typical applications of narrow‐linewidth lasers are discussed to provide reliable and easy‐to‐use references for comparing the performance of narrow‐linewidth lasers. Abstract

An all‐solid‐state pulse width adjustable Nd:YAG nanosecond laser at 1064 nm is demonstrated based on the bidirectional voltage supplied Q‐switched technology. Continuously adjustable pulse‐width from 4.6 to 32.3 ns is generated in a linear cavity, which is laser diode side‐pumped at 808 nm at 100 Hz repetition rate. With 27 ns Q‐switch duration, the shortest pulse width of 4.6 ns with single pulse energy of 0.77 mJ and a near‐Gaussian beam quality (M2 < 1.6) is obtained. Our results suggest an approach to generating pulse‐width adjustable nanosecond lasers for applications in LIDAR. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

149. Research Progress of Stress Measurement Technologies for Optical Elements

Abstract

It is of great significance to measure the residual stress distribution accurately for optical elements and evaluate its influence on the performance of optical instruments in optical imaging, aviation remote sensing, semiconductor manufacturing, and other fields. The stress of optical elements can be closely related to birefringence based on photoelasticity. Thus, the method of quantifying birefringence to obtain the stress becomes the main method of stress measurement technologies for optical elements. This paper first introduces the basic principle of stress measurement based on photoelasticity. Then, the research progress of stress measurement technologies based on this principle is reviewed, which can be classified into two methods: polarization method and interference method. Meanwhile, the advantages and disadvantages of various stress measurement technologies are analyzed and compared. Finally, the developing trend of stress measurement technologies for optical elements is summarized and prospected.
