La vitrectomía pars plana (VPP) es el procedimiento quirúrgico fundamental en el tratamiento de patologías vítreo-retinianas, mientras que el aceite de silicona (AS) es uno de los agentes endotamponadores más utilizados en los casos más complejos de esta cirugía. Sin embargo, el uso del AS no está exento de complicaciones, que en ocasiones pueden llegar a ser severas e irreversibles. El objetivo del trabajo es determinar la prevalencia de emulsificación del aceite de silicona y sus complicaciones en pacientes operados por desprendimiento de retina (DR) mediante VPP + AS. Además, se valoran las posibles diferencias entre el AS de 1000 cts. y el de 5000 cts. mediante tomografía de coherencia óptica (OCT). Como conclusión podemos decir que a pesar de ser uno de los endotamponadores más utilizados en la actualidad, el aceite de silicona puede ocasionar graves complicaciones e irreversibles, la mayoría consecuencia de su emulsificación. El uso de OCT, tanto de segmento anterior como posterior, pueden facilitar la detección precoz y más homogénea de la emulsificación, evitando posibles consecuencias a largo plazo., Grado en Medicina

Microgrids adoption around all world is increasing with different aims as to integrate renewable generation, providing energy to rural zones, reducing CO2 emissions, or simply as an alternative for energy independence. However, the planning and operation of microgrids can be a challenging task because it involves many economical, technical, environmental aspects. This work presents a methodology for planning and validating a grid-connected microgrid using two well-known software that facilitates the design. The planning process is performed in HOMER Pro to size and select appropriate generation sources, while the possible implementation on a real distribution network is validated in DigSILENT. Numerical results show the optimal sizing process of a grid-connected microgrid for a university campus based on real data and the technical validation based on Colombian regulatory aspects., La adopción de microrredes está creciendo en todo el mundo con diferentes propósitos, entre ellos integrar la generación renovable, proporcionar energía a las zonas rurales, reducir las emisiones de CO2 o simplemente como una alternativa para la independencia energética. Sin embargo, la planificación y operación de microrredes puede ser una tarea desafiante porque involucra muchos aspectos económicos, técnicos y ambientales. Este trabajo presenta una metodología para la planificación y validación de una microrred conectada a la red utilizando dos herramientas software muy conocidas en el ámbito de la ingeniería eléctrica. El proceso de planificación a la medida se realiza en HOMER Pro y selecciona las fuentes de generación adecuadas, mientras que la posible implementación en una red de distribución real se valida en DigSILENT. Los resultados numéricos muestran el proceso de dimensionamiento óptimo de una microrred conectada a la red con base en datos reales para un campus universitario. Además, se presenta resultados de la validación técnica de la operación considerando aspectos regulatorios de Colombia.

The detection of the very early gamma-emission of a Type Ia supernova (SNIa) could provide a deep insight on the explosion mechanism and nature of the progenitor. However, this has not been yet possible as a consequence of the expected low luminosity and the distance at which all the events have occurred up to now. An SNIa occurring in our Galaxy could provide a unique opportunity to perform such a measurement. The problem is that the optical flux would probably be so attenuated by interstellar extinction that it would prevent triggering the observations with gamma-spectrometers at the due time. In this paper, we analyse the possibility of using the anticoincidence system (ACS) of the spectrometer SPI on board of the INTEGRAL space observatory for detecting the early gamma-ray emission of an SNIa as a function of the explosion model and distance, as well as of pointing direction. Our results suggest that such detection is possible at about 6-12 d after the explosion, and at the same time, we can discard missing any hidden explosion during the lifetime of INTEGRAL.

Este estudio presenta el análisis de las competencias del investigador en el contexto tecnológico y su correspondencia con las políticas públicas venezolanas de ciencia, tecnología e innovación. Metodológicamente, se asumió un tipo de investigación analítica mediante un diseño documental bibliográfico, tomando como referencia los perfiles de competencias generales de instituciones universitarias públicas y privadas de la Sub-región Costa Oriental de Lago-Estado Zulia, al igual que las disposiciones regulatorias del Sistema Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación. La información se recopiló mediante la técnica de revisión documental apoyada en una matriz de registro como instrumento, dando lugar al uso de la técnica de análisis de contenido para el establecimiento de categorías y subcategorías emergentes del proceso efectuado desde una perspectiva hermenéutica cualitativa. Los resultados permitieron concluir que existe una desarticulación entre las competencias investigativas prescritas en los perfiles de egreso y las políticas públicas estudiadas, lo que indica la necesidad de formular criterios de desempeño orientados al fortalecimiento de las capacidades nacionales de CTI directamente desde las intencionalidades declaradas en el currículo universitario, específicamente para la formación del ingeniero.

Novae and supernovae play a key role in many fields of Astrophysics and Cosmology. Despite their importance, an accurate description of which objects explode and why and how they explode is still lacking. One of the main characteristics of such explosions is that they are the main suppliers of newly synthesized chemical elements in the Galaxy. Since some of these isotopes are radioactive, it is possible to use the corresponding gamma-rays as a diagnostic tool of the explosion thanks to their independence on the thermal state of the debris. The drawback is the poor sensitivity of detectors in the MeV energy domain. As a consequence, the radioactive lines have only been detected in one core collapse supernova (SN 1987A), one Type Ia supernova (SN 2014J), and one supernova remnant (Cas A). Nevertheless these observations have provided and are providing important information about the explosion mechanisms. Unfortunately, novae are still eluding detection. These results emphasize the necessity to place as soon as possible a new instrument in orbit with enough sensitivity to noticeably enlarge the sample of detected events.

[EN] Oceanic-atmospheric phenomena of different time scales concurrently might affect the streamflow in several basins around the world. The Atrato River Basin (ARB) and Pa-Ha River Basin (PRB) of the Colombian Pacific region are examples of such basins. Nevertheless, the relations between the streamflows in the ARB and PRB and the oceanic-atmospheric factors have not been examined considering different temporal scales. Hence, this article studies the relations of the climate indices and the variability of the streamflows in the ARB and PRB at interannual and decadal timescales. To this, the streamflow variability modes were obtained from the principal component analysis (PCA); furthermore, their linear dependence with indices of the El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO), precipitation (PRP), the Choco low-level jet (CJ), and other indices were quantified through (a) Pearson and Kendall's tau correlations, and (b) wavelet transform. The PCA presented a single significant mode for each basin, with an explained variance of around 80%. The correlation analyses between the PC1s of the ARB and PRB, and the climate indices showed significant positive (negative) high correlations with PRP, CJ, and Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) (ENSO indices). The wavelet coherence analysis showed significant coherencies between ENSO and ARB: at interannual (2-7 years) and decadal scale (8-14), preferably with the sea surface temperature (SST) in the east and west Tropical Pacific Ocean (TPO). For PRB with the SST in the central and western regions of the TPO in the interannual (4-8 years) and decadal (8-14 years) scales, the decreases (increases) in streamflow precede the El Nino (La Nina) events. These results indicate multiscale relations between the basins' streamflow and climate phenomena not documented in previous works, relevant to forecast the extreme flow events in the Colombian Pacific rivers and for planning and implementing strategies for the sustainable use of water resources

Nowadays, 21% of Colombian population, and the 35% of the population in Cauca Valley have limited movement of body, arms, hands or legs. Then, the quality of life of these people is highly affected, since they have limitations in daily living activities. Physical rehabilitation therapies allow the restoration of movement and maximum functional capacity in people. Successful physical therapies depend on empathy and motivation with the rehabilitation process (RP), then the more empathy of patients with the RP, the more patient willingness regarding the rehabilitation therapy. Motivation is crucial in rehabilitation, and it is used as a fundamental rehabilitation out-come. This work has the aim to present the software tool called NAOMOBBY to support physical rehabilitation therapies of shoulder, elbow and wrist joints. NAOMOBBY includes a GUI for therapist, a Kinect sensor and an interactive humanoid robot NAO to increase the patient willingness regarding the RP. NAOMOBBY includes the following modules: configuration/management, movement reproduction, and results report using GAS methodology. NAOMOBBY was tested using quantitative and field tests. Quantitative tests measure the error in the Kinect sensor of the NAO robot joint motions to bring users a suitable feedback. Quantitative results were obtained using three basic functional motions. The mean square error for these three motions were 0,373%, 0,096%, and 1,129% respectively. Field tests were conducted at the SURGIR neuro-rehabilitation center using 3 physiotherapists who considered the NAOMOBBY software tool as a novel, easy to use, and that encourage patients to perform the physical therapy., Actualmente, el 21% de la población en Colombia y el 35% de la población del Valle del Cauca tiene limitaciones en el movimiento del cuerpo, brazos, manos o piernas. Entonces, la calidad de vida de estas personas está altamente afectado, ya que ellas tienen limitaciones al desarrollar actividades del diario vivir. La rehabilitación a través de la terapia física, permite la restauración del movimiento y la máxima capacidad funcional en las personas. Terapias físicas exitosas dependen de la empatía y motivación con el proceso de rehabilitación (PR), entonces entre más alta la empatía de los pacientes con el PR, más alta la disposición será de los pacientes en relación con la terapia de rehabilitación. Motivación es crucial en rehabilitación, y es usado como un resultado determinante de la rehabilitación. Este trabajo tiene el objetivo de presentar la herramienta software llamada NAOMOBBY para soportar las terapias de rehabilitación física de las articulaciones de hombro, codo y muñeca. NAOMOBBY incluye una GUI para terapeutas, un sensor Kinect y un robot interactivo humanoide NAO con el fin de incrementar la disposición del paciente hacia el PR. NAOMOBBY incluye los siguientes módulos: configuración y gestión, reproducción de movimiento y reporte de resultados usando la metodología GAS. NAOMOBBY fue probada usando pruebas cuantitativas y de campo. Las pruebas cuantitativas miden el error en el sensor Kinect de los movimientos de las articulaciones del robot NAO, con el fin de brindar a los usuarios una adecuada realimentación. Los resultados cuantitativos fueron obtenidos usando tres movimientos funcionales básicos. Los errores cuadráticos medios de estos tres movimientos fueron 0,373%, 0,096%, y 1,129% respectivamente. Las pruebas de campo fueron realizadas en el centro de neuro-rehabilitación SURGIR usando 3 fisioterapeutas quienes consideraron a la herramienta software NAOMOBBY como novedosos, fáciles de usar y que motiva a los pacientes a realizar la terapia físic

The present work proposes to adopt the historical essay modality starting from the debate installed in sectors of the academic world and the mapuche intellectual world that emerged in recent years on the results of capitalist modernization in La Araucanía.It constitutes a look by the authors at the history of Araucanía during the 20th century, situated from a medium and long-term perspective with the aim of understanding not only the past, but also the pending challenges. The analysis is based on specific events and the issues that markedthe debate between political, mapuche and business actors since the 1930s. In accordance with this is that we present some analytical freedoms both in periodization and in the most relevant milestones or junctures., El presente trabajo se propone adoptar la modalidad de ensayo histórico a partir del debate instalado en sectores del mundo académico y el mundo intelectual mapuche emergido en los últimos años sobre los resultados de modernización capitalista en La Araucanía. Constituye una mirada de los autores a la historia de la Araucanía durante el siglo XX, situados desde una perspectiva de mediana y larga duración con el objetivo de una comprensión no solo del pasado, sino que de los desafíos pendientes. El análisis se hace a partir de eventos específicos y de los temas que marcaron el debate entre actores políticos, mapuche y empresariales desde la década de los años 30’. De allí que presentemos algunas libertades analíticas tanto en la periodización como en los hitos o coyunturas más relevantes.

This essay studies the constitution of the Chile-South Korea Economic Cooperation Committee (1979), in a complex context for the world economy, due to the oil crisis and the foreign debt crisis in Latin America; and for Chile's international relations, due to the wide isolation of the civil-military government of the time, and to the profound transformations in the entrepreneurial role of the State in Chile, which implied the privatization of many state-owned companies. In the same period and year, South Korea was going through a very critical scenario, in which the assassination of the head of state, Park Chung-hee was the main event. We propose, as a general hypothesis, that despite the adverse scenario of those years, a very successful bilateral relationship was developed, which constituted the basis of relations between the two countries since then and up to the present. This hypothesis puts pressure on those versions that until now now have described this type of link as “unlikely”. For the preparation of this article we examined specialized bibliography, documentation from the Historical Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, as well as the archives of the business organizations mentioned. Como hipótesis general planteamos que, pese al escenario adverso de esos años, se logró desarrollar un tipo de relaciones bilaterales con mucho éxito y constituyó la base de las relaciones entre ambos países, desde entonces y hasta el presente. Esta hipótesis tensiona las versiones que hasta aquí calificaron este tipo de vínculo como de “improbables”. Para la elaboración de este trabajo hemos examinado bibliografía especializada, documentación del Archivo Históricos del Ministerio de Relaciones exteriores de Chile, así como los archivos de las organizaciones empresariales aludidas.
