The magnetometric resistivity (MMR) method consists of measuring the variation of magnetostatic field associated to current density variations. It is based on the principle that direct current flow between two electrodes takes the path of least resistance through the earth. Consequently, conductive or relatively conductive ore bodies such as massive, semi-massive to disseminated sulphides are preferentially energized, which increases the current density in their vicinity. MMR is more efficient than electromagnetic methods in the case of weak conductivity contrasts. To improve the signal to noise ratio the magnetic field can be measured in boreholes rather than on the surface. Down-hole magnetometric resistivity measurements have been conducted in Tobermalug prospect in County Limerick, Ireland. The survey was used as an alternative to down-hole electromagnetic to delineate subhorizontal zinc/lead mineralization lenses that can be poorly conductive. Two survey areas were investigated, DHMMR1 and DHMMR2. Interpretation is based on the regularized least-squares inversion of MMR data, in which the MMR forward problem is solved with a finite volume discretization of the electrostatic and magnetostatic equations. Inversion of synthetic data generated over two conductive horizontal discs model shows that conductive structures are well positioned but their extensions is biased along current electrodes orientation. Inversion of the field data allowed localizing a few conductive elongated targets. At DHMMR1, the conductivity is weaker and seems to be associated to disseminated mineralization. DHMMR2 contains a higher conductivity and more elongated target. It appears to be associated to semi-massive sulphides.

Background The 122 years and 164 days age claim of Jeanne Calment, the world oldest person who died in 1997, is the most thoroughly validated age claim. Recently the claim that families Calment and Billot organized a conspiracy concerning tax fraud based on identity fraud between mother and daughter gained international media attention. Methods Here, we reference the original components of the validation as well as additional documentation to address various claims of the conspiracy theory and provide evidence for why these claims are based on inaccurate facts or unrelated to the death of Yvonne Billot-Calment, the daughter of Jeanne Calment, in 1934. Results Also, countering the contention that the occurrence of a 122 year old person is statistically impossible, mathematical models are presented which also supports the hypothesis that though extremely rare, as would be expected for the oldest person ever, Jeanne Calment’s age claim is plausible. Conclusions In total, the quality of the investigation supporting the claim of conspiracy as well as the mathematical analysis aiming to back it do not reach the level expected for a scientific publication.

Le Solutréen des Peyrugues constitue une série stratifiée composée de 3 brèves occupations formant les niveaux archéologiques 10, 12z et 12a séparés les uns des autres par des dépôts stériles. Cet ensemble , isolé du Badegoulien par la couche 10', domine une série gravettienne par l'intermédiaire des occupations 14 et 16 non caractérisées. Le niveau 10 représentant un Solutréen supérieur à pointe à cran, a révélé la présence d'un habitat arrondi circonscrit par des blocs et accompagné d'un mobilier lithique en silex et cinérite. Le Solutréen inférieur à pointe à face plane comprend les niveaux 12z et 12a. Ce dernier, le plus riche en informations, a livré 3 unités d'habitation circulaires au fond de l'abri. Chacune de celles-ci reposait à cheval sur un replat naturel en pied de paroi et sur un remblai de castine retenu par des blocs au sommet du talus constituant ainsi un petit promontoire arrondi côté pente. Toutefois, l'unité 3 repoussée contre la paroi ouest de l'abri et davantage engagée sur la pente a nécessité l'aménagement d'un soutènement plus important. Après la mise au jour de ces unités d'habitation, il est apparu que le talus était recouvert de blocs manipulables. Leur enlèvement a révélé une occupation anthropique de la pente autour de 2 foyers attribués, en fonction de leurs datations et d'assemblages lithiques, l'un au niveau 12z et l'autre au niveau 12a. Dans ce dernier, un reste linéaire d'aménagement de blocs en aval des unités 1 et 2, prolongé à ses extrémités par la limite inférieure d'un remblai, a souligné l'assise d'un mur dont la destruction avait alimenté la couche de blocs précédente. Ainsi, la juxtaposition des 3 unités d'habitations reliées par un remblai commun lui-même retenu par un mur ont attesté une gestion unique de l'espace occupé dans le niveau 12a. En permettant la création de surfaces d'installation horizontales modifiant le profil des dépôts naturels, les remblais ont limité localement les effets de la solifluxion dans le gisement. Ces niveaux solutréens caractérisés par leurs mobiliers (armatures et parures) ont donc livré des habitats circulaires isolés ou groupés (12a). Leurs occupations de courte durée correspondraient à des camps de chasseurs installés durant la belle saison au sein d'un territoire de circulation Dordogne-Quercy.

Découverte en 1969, la station préhistorique du Camp militaire d’Auvours a révélé, en surface, la présence de cinq sites. La fouille de 141 m² réalisée sur le site 1 a livré les restes d’un campement épipaléolithique installé sur un pavement de blocs gréseux d’origine périglaciaire. Ces restes ont révélé des traces d’organisation comportant des zones de combustion, des zones ocrées ainsi que des accumulations de blocs résultant de remaniements d’un pavement naturel. Le mobilier exclusivement lithique composé d’environ 327 000 silex débités dont 4 200 retouchés était essentiellement contenu dans la moitié nord du site laissant présager d’une prolongation de celui-ci vers le nord. Les principales nappes de mobilier lithique ont toutes témoigné du débitage du silex ainsi que de la fabrication et de l’entretien d’outils à proximité des foyers. Les armatures surtout représentées par des pointes (p. des Blanchères et p. à troncature très oblique) semblent aussi comporter des lamelles à apex naturel décrites ici comme « armatures d’Auvours à apex non aménagé ». Les stigmates observés sur leurs fractures pourraient témoigner de l’usage de l’arc. La zone d’installation préhistorique a révélé de multiples activités : aménagement de foyers, débitage du silex, préparation de l’ocre, grattage et tannage des peaux. Ce site, témoin pour l’essentiel d’activités cynégétiques, serait donc un important campement de chasseurs. Sa parfaite homogénéité correspond plutôt à une longue et unique occupation post-Azilienne. Discovered in 1969, the pre-historical site of the military camp of the plateau of Auvours revealed, near the ground surface, the presence of five sites. The 141 m2 searched area on site 1 show the remains of an epipalaeolithic camp installed on a pavement of sandstone blocks of periglacial origin. This remains revealed traces of organization including combustion zones and linear accumulations of blocks resulting of re-arrangement of the natural pavement. It seems that part of theses accumulations was used to consolidate the base of the walls made up of perishable materials. When the search was stopped in 1979, a kind of quadrangular shaped enclosure containing three combustion areas was partially excavated. A supplementary combustion zone, kept in reserve for later survey seemed to lie on the external border of this enclosure in a sector having a large proportion of ochre. The furniture made up exclusively of stone material, having approximately 327 000 cut witnesses of which 4 200 were altered, was mainly inside the enclosure and also outside in the sector with ochre. All the main layers of stone products are witnesses of a flint cutting activity as well as production and maintenance of tools located near the hearths. The armatures are mostly represented by points (points of the Blanchères and points with a very slanted truncation) and seem to have thin strips with natural apex described here as “armatures of Auvours”. The stigmatas observed on their fractures might be testimonies of the use of bow. The configuration of the quadrangular area suggest for its protection a single covering comparable with the ones of Thuareg tent. Its North part centralizing miscellaneous material cutting and ochre processing activities constituted a very busy craftsman space which reveals occupations probably associated to hunting. This site, witness mostly of hunting activities, could therefore have been an important camp site for hunters. Its perfect homogeneity rather corresponds to a long and single occupation. Finally, having no reliable dating, it seems preferable in principle to put forward the hypothesis that this vast camp site, with an opening on each side, did not coincide with the cold phase of Dryass III.
