Background: In adults, sleep has an important role in the development of cardiovascular diseases. Epidemiologic studies have shown that chronic short sleep may be associated with the development of hypertension. Objectives: This study is aimed to assess the quality of sleep pattern in of Hail city, and to study the relationship between sleep pattern and hypertension among of Hail city. Methods:This descriptive study was conducted in Hail city, Saudi Arabia. A total of 1004 participants who are aged above 17 years old were included in the study. 114. A global path planner for safe navigation of autonomous vehicles in uncertain environments

Abstract

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) are considered an emerging technology revolution. Planning paths that are safe to drive on contributes greatly to expediting AV adoption. However, the main barrier to this adoption is navigation under sensor uncertainty, with the understanding that there is no perfect sensing solution for all driving environments. In this paper, we propose a global safe path planner that analyzes sensor uncertainty and determines optimal paths. The path planner has two components: Sensor analytics and path finder. The sensor analytics component combines the uncertainties of all sensors to evaluate the positioning and navigation performance of an AV at given locations and times. The path finder component then utilizes the acquired sensor performance and creates a weight based on safety for each road segment. The operation and quality of the proposed path finder are demonstrated through simulations. The simulation results reveal that the proposed safe path planner generates paths that significantly improve the navigation safety in complex dynamic environments when compared to the paths generated by conventional approaches.

Abstract

© 2018 Elsevier B.V. Objective: To understand the validity and reliability of consumer-grade activity trackers (consumer wearables) in older, community-dwelling adults. Methods: A systematic review of studies involving adults aged over 65 years who underwent physical activity monitoring with consumer wearables. A total of 7 observational studies qualified, identified from electronic databases: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library and others (2014–2018). Validity was interpreted using correlation coefficients (CC) and percentage error for agreement between reference devices or gold-standard validation methods Reliability was compared using mean differences or ranges (under- or overestimation) of step count and activity time. Results: Total sample size was 290 adults, mean age of 70.2 ± 4.8 years and females constituting 46.7 ± 26.1%. The studies evaluated eight different consumer wearables used by community-dwelling adults with a range of co-morbidities. Daily step count for all consumer wearables correlated highly with validation criterion, especially the ActiGraph device: intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were 0.94 for Fitbit One, 0.94 for Zip, 0.86 for Charge HR and 0.96 for Misfit Shine. Slower walking pace and impaired ambulation reduced the levels of agreement. Daily step count captured by Fitbit Zip was on average 7117 (±5,880.6), which was overestimated by five of the eight consumer wearables compared with reference devices (range 167.6–2,690.3 steps/day). Measurement of activity duration was accurate compared with reference devices, yet less so than step count. Conclusion: In older, community-dwelling adults, consumer wearables accurately measure step count and activity duration, as confirmed by reference devices and validation methods Further research is required to understand how co-morbidities, gait and activity levels interact with monitoring in free-living environments.

121. Prevalence, patterns and contributing factors for tobacco usage amongst Saudi population - analysis from SHIS 2013.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to determine the prevalence, patterns and contributing factors for tobacco usage amongst Saudi population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between April and June 2013, a cross-sectional study was organized among 10735 individuals aged 15 years or older. The survey consisted of face-face interview for collecting data on socio-demographics, tobacco usage, diet, physical activity and comorbidities. Univariate and multivariate binary logistic regression was applied to check for the association of prevalence (both smoked and smokeless) with socio-demographic factors. The strength of association was examined by approximating odds ratios (OR) with their 95% CI using SPSS software and p-value set at < 0.05. RESULTS: A total of 10195 respondents aged from 15 to 101 were considered. Overall prevalence of current smoking was 12.8%. Daily smoking was reported by 12% of the population. Sex, age group, education, married and occupation were strong predictors of tobacco use in both univariate and multivariable model. From multivariable model, men were 14.54 times more likely to smoke tobacco (aOR 14.54, 95% CI 11.07-19.11) when compared with women. Respondents between 15 to 30 years, 31 to 45 years, were 3.36 times (aOR 3.36, 95% CI 2.29- 4.93) and 3.51 times (aOR 3.51, 95% CI 2.47-4.98) more likely to smoke tobacco when compared to >60 years. CONCLUSIONS: The results of present study indicate a significant, but differing purpose of sex, age group, education, marital status and work status on tobacco usage in the country. Abstract

International audience; Visualizations for computational biology have been developing for over 50 years. With recent advances in both computational biology and computer graphics techniques, these fields have witnessed rapid technological advances in the last decade. Thus, coping with the large number of scientific articles from both fields is a challenging task. Furthermore, there remains a gap between the two communities of visualization and computational biology, resulting in additional challenges to bridge the divide. A team of computational biology and visualization scientists attempts to address these challenges by presenting unified state-of-the-art reviews from both communities. We apply a variety of data-driven analysis to highlight links or differences between studies from both communities. This approach facilitates the identification of present and future challenges in visualizing and analyzing computational biology data. It offers a distinctive step forward in managing the literature on visualization of molecular dynamics and related simulation approaches.

Abstract

Recently we demonstrated a system for light-trapping molecules and stimulated Raman scattering based on a lattice of ultra-deep traps created by spatially modulated Raman saturation, where Raman-active molecules are strongly localized in a one-dimensional array of nanometre-wide sections, resulting in a central line with a sub-recoil linewidth as low as 14 kHz. Here the theoretical modelling of such a process is presented in detail. The numerical formalism is presented on both microscopic and macroscopic scale. The field distribution in the fiber is discussed, and the predictions regarding the line narrowing, sidebands, and lattice motion are provided

130. Exercise barriers and the relationship to self-efficacy for exercise over 12 months of a lifestyle-change program for people with heart disease and/or diabetes

Background: Barriers to exercise are common in people with coronary heart disease (CHD) and/or diabetes mellitus (DM), and may influence self-efficacy for exercise. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the exercise barriers experienced by people who have CHD and/or DM participating in the Healthy Eating and Exercise Lifestyle Program and to determine whether these barriers influence self-efficacy. Methods: Participants (n = 134) identified their barriers to exercise and completed the self-efficacy for exercise survey at baseline, at 4 months (following structured and supervised exercise) and at 12 months (following home-based exercise with three follow-up calls). Results: The sample mean age was 63.6 years (SD 8.5) and 58% were male. Barriers to exercise were reported by 88% at baseline, 76% at 4 months, and 47% at 12 months. The most common barriers were lack of motivation (40.3%), lack of time overall (30.6%), and lack of time due to family commitments (17.2%). Only motivation changed significantly over time from baseline (40%) to 4 months (23%, p = 0.040). Lower self-efficacy for exercise was associated with lack of motivation at 12 months only, more depressive symptoms at baseline and 4 months, and a CHD diagnosis and higher body mass index at 12 months. In contrast, male gender and having higher self-efficacy at baseline were associated with higher self-efficacy for exercise at 4 and 12 months. Conclusion: Patients identified many exercise barriers despite participating in a lifestyle-change program. Lack of motivation negatively influenced self-efficacy for exercise at 12 months. Other factors needing attention include baseline self-efficacy, depressive symptoms, being female, being more overweight, and having CHD.

131. Measuring Overall Physical Activity for Cardiac Rehabilitation Participants: A Review of the Literature

© 2017 Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons (ANZSCTS) and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSANZ) Background Assessment of physical activity (PA) for cardiac rehabilitation (CR) participants is critical to monitor changes. However, the validity and reliability of PA measures to assess PA throughout the day, not only during exercise training, is poorly investigated. Aim To establish a reliable and valid measure to assess overall PA in CR participants. Methods A narrative literature review was performed based on a systematic search of Embase, CINAHL, MEDLINE and PubMed databases. Eight studies comparing two or more PA measures with at least one direct measure met the inclusion criteria. Results Methodological designs were heterogeneous. Correlations and levels of agreement between self-reported measures and direct measures were weak to moderate, while the correlations between direct measures were high. Of the direct measures, the SenseWear armband (BodyMedia Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, USA) had the highest validity, and the PA diary and MobilePAL questionnaires performed better than other self-reported PA measures. Conclusion Direct measures were more valid and reliable than self-reported measures. No recommendation for a definitive PA measure was made due to lack of strong evidentiary support for one PA measure over another. There is a need for accurate measures of overall PA in evaluating current and changing PA levels following CR.

132. Harnessing the Potential of Wearable Activity Trackers for Heart Failure Self-Care

Purpose of review: The purpose of this study was to explore the potential of wearable activity trackers to promote self-care management for physical activity in heart failure (HF). Recent findings: Exercise participation decreases hospital admissions and improves quality of life in HF, and activity tracking devices provide more precise means to assess free-living physical activity and thus enable tailored exercise instruction. Use of activity trackers by cardiac patients for self-monitoring and motivational purposes is associated with increased levels of physical activity and is predictive of disease severity. However, more research is required to establish the feasibility and validity of these devices in HF patients. It is also critical that the devices can be easily used to collect, process and utilise relevant data. Summary: Activity trackers have the potential to promote HF self-care because they provide monitoring of physical activity behaviours and the potential to generate habit formation and goal reinforcement, all of which foster physical activity.

Abstract

A new class of 5-arylated 5-hydroxypyrrolones was derived from mucochloric acid in 2 synthetic steps and the chemical structure was confirmed additionally by X-ray analysis. Using a radiolabelled binding assay, potent CCK1 selective ligands were identified (CCK1: 12 nM) and the antagonism was confirmed by using isolated tissue preparations. A series of isobutyl derivatives displayed unsurmountable CCK antagonistic properties and in vitro excellent inhibition of proliferation was obtained in cholecystokinin related cancer cell lines in the nanomolar range. Finally, using xenograft studies in nude mice, two selected pyrrolone derivatives, X = H and X = F a fluorinated analogue (PNB-028), showed a strong inhibition of tumour growth in a chemo-resistant colon cancer-(MAC 16) and a human pancreatic cell line (MIAPACA) at 50 mg kg-1 by oral administration.

Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a human behavioral disorder related to neurology and development with a global health concern that affects nearly 1-2% of the population. The term "spectrum" denotes a broad range of ASD symptoms, widely starts in childhood, and often develops within the first year of development. ASD is characterized by repetitive behavior along with impairment in social communication jointly with restricted interest. Based on the available wealth of literature, ASD is considered a complex disorder that is associated with a range of defects and disorders such as epilepsy, cognitive impairment, immune diseases, and sleep problems. Although there is no cure for ASD, some medicines can alleviate ASD-related symptoms like depression, trouble focusing, seizures, and insomnia. However, studies have revealed that these medications are more effective when they are combined with other behavioral therapies. More recently, there has been extensive research on establishing the etiology of ASD through genetic mutation, and epigenetic dysregulation caused by environmental factors. The specific role of causative factors and their impact on autistic individuals are still unclear. Moreover, the diagnosis of ASD still relies on behavioral observation at the clinic. Hence, this review aimed to provide a concise overview of the current research on the epidemiology and molecular basis of ASD, as well as a potential strategy for the improvement of ASD diagnosis strategies and potential therapy.
