Given a smooth genus three curve $C$, the moduli space of rank two stable vector bundles on C with trivial determinant embeds in $\mathbb{P}^8$ as a hypersurface whose singular locus is the Kummer threefold of $C$; this hypersurface is the Coble quartic. Gruson, Sam and Weyman realized that this quartic could be constructed from a general skew-symmetric fourform in eight variables. Using the lines contained in the quartic, we prove that a similar construction allows to recover SU$_C(2, L)$, the moduli space of rank two stable vector bundles on C with fixed determinant of odd degree L, as a subvariety of $G(2, 8)$. In fact, each point $p \in C$ defines a natural embedding of SU$_C(2, \mathcal{O}(p))$ in $G(2, 8)$. We show that, for the generic such embedding, there exists a unique quadratic section of the Grassmannian which is singular exactly along the image of SU$_C(2, \mathcal{O}(p))$, and thus deserves to be coined the Coble quadric of the pointed curve $(C, p)$.

We develop the moduli theory of boundary polarized CY pairs, which are slc Calabi-Yau pairs $(X,D)$ such that $D$ is ample. The motivation for studying this moduli problem is to construct a moduli space at the Calabi-Yau wall interpolating between certain K-moduli and KSBA moduli spaces. We prove that the moduli stack of boundary polarized CY pairs is S-complete, $\Theta$-reductive, and satisfies the existence part of the valuative criterion for properness, which are steps towards constructing a proper moduli space. A key obstacle in this theory is that the irreducible components of the moduli stack are not in general of finite type. Despite this issue, in the case of pairs $(X,D)$ where $X$ is a degeneration of $\mathbb{P}^2$, we construct a projective moduli space on which the Hodge line bundle is ample. As a consequence, we complete the proof of a conjecture of Prokhorov and Shokurov in relative dimension two., Comment: 105 pages, comments are very welcome

In a 2013 article, Eike Lau constructed a canonical morphism from the stack of $n$-truncated Barsotti-Tate groups over $F_p$ to the stack of n-truncated displays. He also proved that this morphism is a gerbe banded by a commutative group scheme. This e-print is a step towards an explicit description of this group scheme.

For any double Poisson algebra, we produce a double Poisson vertex algebra using the jet algebra construction. We show that this construction is compatible with the representation functor which associates to any double Poisson (vertex) algebra and any positive integer a Poisson (vertex) algebra. We also consider related constructions, such as Poisson reductions and Hamiltonian reductions, with the aim of comparing the different corresponding categories. Given a proper holomorphic surjective morphism $f:X\rightarrow Y$ from a compact K\"ahler manifold to a compact K\"ahler manifold, and a Nakano semipositive holomorphic vector bundle $E$ on $X$, we prove Koll\'ar type vanishing theorems on cohomologies with coefficients in $R^qf_\ast(\omega_X(E))\otimes F$, where $F$ is a $k$-positive vector bundle on $Y$. The main inputs in the proof are the deep results on the Nakano semipositivity of the higher direct images due to Berndtsson and Mourougane-Takayama, and an $L^2$-Dolbeault resolution of the higher direct image sheaf $R^qf_\ast(\omega_X(E))$, which is of interest in itself., Comment: 11 pages. We construct the first explicit non-trivial example of deformed Hermitian Yang-Mills (dHYM) instanton on a higher rank slope-unstable holomorphic vector bundle over a Fano threefold. Additionally, we provide a sufficient algebraic condition in terms of central charges for the existence of dHYM instantons on Whitney sum of holomorphic line bundles over rational homogeneous varieties. As a consequence, we obtain several new examples of dHYM instantons on higher rank holomorphic vector bundles., 23 pages. This paper studies the class of unique factorial domains $B$ over an algebraically closed field $k$ which are affine or unirational over $k$ and which admit an effective unmixed $\mathbb{Z}^{d-1}$-grading with $B_0=k$, where $d$ is the dimension of $B$. Geometrically, these correspond to factorial affine $k$-varieties with an unmixed torus action of complexity one and trivial invariants. Our main result shows that this class is identical to the class of rings defined by trinomial data, thus generalizing earlier work of Mori, of Ishida, and of Hausen, Herrppich and S\"uss., Comment: 20 pages

We describe an algorithm to compute Whitney stratifications of real algebraic varieties. The basic idea is to first stratify the complexified version of the given real variety using conormal techniques, and then to show that the resulting stratifications admit a description using only real polynomials. This method also extends to stratification problems involving certain basic semialgebraic sets as well as certain algebraic maps. One of the map stratification algorithms described here yields a new method for solving the real root classification problem., 11 pages, 2 figures. Tautological bundles of realizations of matroids were introduced in [BEST23] as a unifying geometric model for studying matroids. We compute the cohomologies of exterior and symmetric powers of these vector bundles, and show that they depend only on the matroid of the realization. As an application, we show that the log canonical bundle of a wonderful compactification of a hyperplane arrangement complement, in particular the moduli space of pointed rational curves, has vanishing higher cohomologies., 16 pages

Let $\alpha: X \to Y$ be a finite cover of smooth curves. Beauville conjectured that the pushforward of a general vector bundle under $\alpha$ is semistable if the genus of $Y$ is at least $1$ and stable if the genus of $Y$ is at least $2$. We prove this conjecture if the map $\alpha$ is general in any component of the Hurwitz space of covers of an arbitrary smooth curve $Y$.

The geproci property is a recent development in the world of geometry. We call a set of points $Z\subseteq\mathbb{P}_k^3$ an $(a,b)$-geproci set (for GEneral PROjection is a Complete Intersection) if its projection from a general point $P$ to a plane is a complete intersection of curves of degrees $a\leq b$. Nondegenerate examples known as grids have been known since 2011. Nondegenerate nongrids were found starting in 2018, working in characteristic 0. Almost all of these new examples are of a special kind called half grids. Before the work in this paper -- based partly on the author's thesis -- only a few examples of geproci nontrivial non-grid non-half grids were known and there was no known way to generate more. Consider the following pullback problem. Given a finite holomorphic map germ $\phi : (\mathbb{C}^{n}, 0) \to (\mathbb{C}^{n}, 0)$ and an analytic germ $X$ in the target, if the preimage $Y = \phi^{-1}(X)$, taken with the reduced structure, is smooth, so is $X$. The main aim of this paper is to give an affirmative solution for $X$ being a complete intersection. The case, where $Y$ is not contained in the ramification divisor $Z$ of $\phi$, was established by Ebenfelt-Rothschild (2007) and afterwards by Lebl (2008) and Denkowski (2016). A Sasakian manifold is a Riemannian manifold whose metric cone admits a certain K\"ahler structure which behaves well under homotheties. We show that the product of two compact Sasakian manifolds admits a family of complex structures indexed by a complex nonreal parameter, none of whose members admits any compatible locally conformally K\"ahler metrics if both Sasakian manifolds are of dimension greater than $1$. We compare this family with another family of complex structures which has been studied in the literature. We compute the Dolbeault cohomology groups of these products of compact Sasakian manifolds.

The Weil-Petersson volumes of moduli spaces of hyperbolic surfaces with geodesic boundaries are known to be given by polynomials in the boundary lengths. These polynomials satisfy Mirzakhani's recursion formula, which fits into the general framework of topological recursion. We generalize the recursion to hyperbolic surfaces with any number of special geodesic boundaries that are required to be tight. A special boundary is tight if it has minimal length among all curves that separate it from the other special boundaries. The Weil-Petersson volume of this restricted family of hyperbolic surfaces is shown again to be polynomial in the boundary lengths. This remains true when we allow conical defects in the surface with cone angles in $(0,π)$ in addition to geodesic boundaries. Moreover, the generating function of Weil-Petersson volumes with fixed genus and a fixed number of special boundaries is polynomial as well, and satisfies a topological recursion that generalizes Mirzakhani's formula. We will comment on a possible geometric interpretation of this formula. This work is largely inspired by recent works by Bouttier, Guitter & Miermont on the enumeration of planar maps with tight boundaries. Our proof relies on the equivalence of Mirzakhani's recursion formula to a sequence of partial differential equations (known as the Virasoro constraints) on the generating function of intersection numbers. Finally, we discuss a connection with JT gravity. We show that the multi-boundary correlators of JT gravity with defects (cone points or FZZT branes) are expressible in the tight Weil-Petersson volume generating functions, using a tight generalization of the JT trumpet partition function., 46 pages, 7 figures

K3 surfaces have been studied from many points of view, but the positivity of the cotangent bundle is not well understood. In this paper we explore the surprisingly rich geometry of the projectivised cotangent bundle of a very general polarised K3 surface $S$ of degree two. In particular, we describe the geometry of a surface $D_S \subset \mathbb{P}(\Omega_S)$ that plays a similar role to the surface of bitangents for a quartic in $\mathbb{P}^3$., Comment: 30 pages

Using the theory of moduli of curves, we establish various slope inequalities for general fibered surfaces under the assumption that every fiber of the relative canonical model is reduced. To prove this, we introduce the notion of functorial divisors on Artin stacks and prove a theorem concerning their effectiveness. Furthermore, we consider the moduli stack of reduced and local complete intersection canonically polarized curves and prove that the closed substack parametrizing non-stable curves has no divisorial components. Applying the two theorems to effective tautological divisors on this moduli stack, we obtain several slope inequalities. As an application, we provide a positive partial answer to the question posed by Lu and Tan regarding the Chern invariants of fiber germs., 29 pages

We investigate the count of meromorphic differentials on the Riemann sphere possessing a single zero, multiple poles with prescribed orders, and fixed residues at each pole. Gendron and Tahar previously examined this problem with respect to general residues using flat geometry, while Sugiyama approached it from the perspective of fixed-point multipliers of polynomial maps in the case of simple poles. In our study, we employ intersection theory on compactified moduli spaces of differentials, enabling us to handle arbitrary residue conditions and provide a complete solution to this problem. We also determine interesting combinatorial properties of the solution formula.

The first author explicitly describes the set of Fourier--Mukai partners of elliptic ruled surfaces over the complex number field in \cite{Ue17}. In this article, we generalize it over arbitrary characteristic fields. We also obtain a partial evidence of the Popa--Schnell conjecture in the proof.

We show that the non-measure hyperbolicity of K3 surfaces -- which M. Green and P. Griffiths verified for certain cases in 1980 -- holds for all K3 surfaces. As a byproduct, we obtain a new proof of the non-measure hyperbolicity of any Enriques surface., We received comments from A. Javanpekar and L. Many reaction networks arising in applications are multistationary, that is, they have the capacity for more than one steady state; while some networks exhibit absolute concentration robustness (ACR), which means that some species concentration is the same at all steady states. Both multistationarity and ACR are significant in biological settings, but only recently has attention focused on the possibility for these properties to coexist. Our main result states that such coexistence in at-most-bimolecular networks (which encompass most networks arising in biology) requires at least $3$ species, $5$ complexes, and $3$ reactions. We prove additional bounds on the number of reactions for general networks based on the number of linear conservation laws. Finally, we prove that, outside of a few exceptional cases, ACR is equivalent to non-multistationarity for bimolecular networks that are small (more precisely, one-dimensional or up to two species). Our proofs involve analyses of systems of sparse polynomials, and we also use classical results from chemical reaction network theory.

We study the coherent cohomology of automorphic sheaves corresponding to Siegel modular forms $f$ of low weight on ${\rm GSp}(4)$ Shimura varieties. Inspired by the work of Prasanna--Venkatesh on singular cohomology of locally symmetric spaces, we propose a conjecture that explains all the contributions of a Hecke eigensystem to coherent cohomology in terms of the action of a motivic cohomology group. Under some technical conditions, we prove that our conjecture is equivalent to Beilinson's conjecture for the adjoint $L$-function of $f$. We also prove some unconditional results in special cases. For a lift $f$ of a Hilbert modular form $f_0$ to ${\rm GSp}(4)$, we produce elements in the motivic cohomology group for which the conjecture holds, using the results of Ramakrishnan on the Asai $L$-function of $f_0$. For a lift $f$ of a Bianchi modular form $f_0$ to ${\rm GSp}(4)$, we show that our conjecture for $f$ is equivalent to the conjecture of Prasanna-Venkatesh for $f_0$, thus establishing a connection between the motivic action conjectures for locally symmetric spaces of non-hermitian type and those for coherent cohomology of Shimura varieties., 57 pages

In this paper we consider algebraic geometry (AG) codes: a class of codes constructed from algebraic codes (equivalently, using function fields) by Goppa. These codes can be list-decoded using the famous Guruswami-Sudan (GS) list-decoder, but the genus $g$ of the used function field gives rise to negative term in the decoding radius, which we call the genus penalty. In this article, we present a GS-like list-decoding algorithm for arbitrary AG codes, which we call the \emph{inseparable GS list-decoder}. Apart from the multiplicity parameter $s$ and designed list size $\ell$, common for the GS list-decoder, we introduce an inseparability exponent $e$. Choosing this exponent to be positive gives rise to a list-decoder for which the genus penalty is reduced with a factor $1/p^e$ compared to the usual GS list-decoder. Here $p$ is the characteristic. Our list-decoder can be executed in $\tilde{\mathcal{O}}(s\ell^{\omega}\mu^{\omega-1}p^e(n+g))$ field operations, where $n$ is the code length.

To a polynomial function $f$ with arbitrary singularities we associate the number of Morse points in a general linear Morsification $f_{t} := f - t\ell$. We produce computable algebraic formulas in terms of invariants of $f$ for the numbers of stratwise Morse trajectories which abut, as $t\to 0$, to some point of $X$ or to some point at infinity., 16 p

The number of Morse points in a Morsification determines the topology of the Milnor fibre of a holomorphic function germ $f$ with isolated singularity. If $f$ has an arbitrary singular locus, then this nice relation to the Milnor fibre disappears. We show that despite this loss, the numbers of stratified Morse singularities of a general linear Morsification are effectively computable in terms of topological invariants of $f$.

We investigate the injectivity of the Frobenius map on thickenings of smooth varieties in projective space over a field of positive characteristic. We obtain uniform bounds -- i.e., independent of the characteristic -- on the thickening that ensures an injective Frobenius map when the projective variety is a smooth complete intersection or an arbitrary projective embedding of an elliptic curve. Our bounds are sharp in the case of hypersurfaces, and in the case of elliptic curves., Comments welcome!

The purpose of this paper is to prove that one can read off the gonality sequence of a smooth projective curve from syzygies of secant varieties of the curve embedded by a line bundle of sufficiently large degree. More precisely, together with Ein-Niu-Park's theorem, our main result shows that the gonality sequence of a smooth projective curve completely determines the shape of the minimal free resolutions of secant varieties of the curve of sufficiently large degree. This is a natural generalization of the gonality conjecture on syzygies of smooth projective curves established by Ein-Lazarsfeld and Rathmann to the secant varieties., 22 pages, any comments are welcome

The notion of admissible pairs of rational homogeneous spaces of Picard number one and their rigidity in terms of the geometric substructures was formulated by Mok and Zhang. The rigidity is known for subdiagram type. While when the admissible pair is of deletion type, the rigidity no longer holds and we need additional conditions. Mok gave a general criterion to handle the admissible pairs which are not of subdiagram type. In this short note we give some examples of admissible pairs of irreducible compact Hermitian symmetric spaces of deletion type to be rigid under the assumption of rational saturation, as an application of Mok's theorem., 12 pages

We study sets of univariate hyperbolic polynomials that share the same first few coefficients and show that they have a natural combinatorial description akin to that of polytopes. We define a stratification of such sets in terms of root arrangements of hyperbolic polynomials and show that any stratum is either empty, a point or of maximal dimension and in the latter case we characterise its relative interior. This is used to show that the poset of strata is a graded, atomic and coatomic lattice and to provide an algorithm for computing which root arrangements are realised in such sets of hyperbolic polynomials., 24 pages, 2 figures

We study inverse problems in anisotropic elasticity using tools from algebraic geometry. The singularities of solutions to the elastic wave equation in dimension $n$ with an anisotropic stiffness tensor have propagation kinematics captured by so-called slowness surfaces, which are hypersurfaces in the cotangent bundle of $\mathbb{R}^n$ that turn out to be algebraic varieties. Leveraging the algebraic geometry of families of slowness surfaces we show that, for tensors in a dense open subset in the space of all stiffness tensors, a small amount of data around one polarization in an individual slowness surface uniquely determines the entire slowness surface and its stiffness tensor. Such partial data arises naturally from geophysical measurements or geometrized versions of seismic inverse problems. Additionally, we explain how the reconstruction of the stiffness tensor can be carried out effectively, using Gr\"obner bases. Our uniqueness results fail for very symmetric (e.g., fully isotropic) materials, evidencing the counterintuitive claim that inverse problems in elasticity can become more tractable with increasing asymmetry., Comment: 39 pages, 4 figures. We study the zero locus of the Futaki invariant on K-polystable Fano threefolds, seen as a map from the K\"ahler cone to the dual of the Lie algebra of the reduced automorphism group. We show that, apart from families 3.9, 3.13, 3.19, 3.20, 4.2, 4.4, 4.7 and 5.3 of the Iskovskikh-Mori-Mukai classification of Fano threefolds, the Futaki invariant of such manifolds vanishes identically on their K\"ahler cone. In all cases, when the Picard rank is greater or equal to two, we exhibit explicit 2-dimensional differentiable families of K\"ahler classes containing the anti-canonical class and on which the Futaki invariant is identically zero. As a corollary, we deduce the existence of non K\"ahler-Einstein cscK metrics on all such Fano threefolds., Comment: 19 pages

We give an explicit uniform result on the Mordell conjecture for non-isotrivial curves over function field of characteristic 0. The proof is based on Vojta's method, and make use of Zhang's admissible adelic line bundles and a quantitative result on the Bogomolov conjecture by Looper-Silverman-Wilms.

In this paper, a certain two-parameter family of plane-embeddings of Edwards elliptic curve $E_a: x^2+y^2=a^2(1+x^2y^2)$ is introduced to provide explicitly computed tropical curves corresponding to degeneration in $a\to 1$. Applying the theta uniformization of $E_a$ with the method of ultradiscretization by Kajiwara-Kaneko-Nobe-Tsuda, we give a formula for the coordinate functions that traces the cycle part of the tropical elliptic curve. We also illustrate how one can recover the whole part of the tropical curve as a quotient of the Bruhat-Tits tree after Speyer's algebraic approach in smooth cases.

Let $\mathcal E$ be a complex elliptic curve and $S$ a non-empty finite subset of $\mathcal E$. We show the equality of two algebras of multivalued functions on $\mathcal E\smallsetminus S$: on the one hand, an algebra constructed using the functions $\tilde\Gamma$ introduced in arXiv:1712.07089 out of string theory motivations; on the other hand, the minimal algebra of holomorphic multivalued functions on $\mathcal E\smallsetminus S$ which is stable under integration, studied in arXiv:2212.03119; both algebras coincide with the algebra of multivalued holomorphic functions with unipotent monodromy on $\mathcal E\smallsetminus S$ and moderate growth at the points of $S$., Comment: 30 pages

For $g\ge 2$ and $n\ge 0$, let $\mathcal{H}_{g,n}\subset \mathcal{M}_{g,n}$ denote the complex moduli stack of $n$-marked smooth hyperelliptic curves of genus $g$. A normal crossings compactification of this space is provided by the theory of pointed admissible $\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z}$-covers. We explicitly determine the resulting dual complex, and we use this to define a graph complex which computes the weight zero compactly supported cohomology of $\mathcal{H}_{g, n}$. Using this graph complex, we give a sum-over-graphs formula for the $S_n$-equivariant weight zero compactly supported Euler characteristic of $\mathcal{H}_{g, n}$. This formula allows for the computer-aided calculation, for each $g\le 7$, of the generating function $\mathsf{h}_g$ for these equivariant Euler characteristics for all $n$. More generally, we determine the dual complex of the boundary in any moduli space of pointed admissible $G$-covers of genus zero curves, when $G$ is abelian, as a symmetric $\Delta$-complex. Cyclic coverings produce many examples of topologically contractible smooth affine complex varieties. In this paper, we study the motivic cohomology groups of cyclic coverings over algebraically closed fields of characteristic $0$. In particular, we prove that in many situations Chow groups of cyclic coverings become trivial after tensoring with $\mathbb{Q}$. Furthermore, we can prove that the Chow groups of certain bicyclic coverings are trivial even without tensoring with $\mathbb{Q}$., 32 pages; comments welcome!

We introduce and study a notion of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity suitable for rational normal scroll surfaces. In this setting we prove analogs of some classical properties. We prove splitting criteria for coherent sheaves and a characterization of Ulrich bundles. Finally we study logarithmic bundles associated to arrangements of lines and rational curves.

Given a closed symplectic manifold $X$, we construct Gromov-Witten-type invariants valued both in (complex) $K$-theory and in any complex-oriented cohomology theory $\mathbb{K}$ which is $K_p(n)$-local for some Morava $K$-theory $K_p(n)$. We show that these invariants satisfy a version of the Kontsevich-Manin axioms, extending Givental and Lee's work for the quantum $K$-theory of complex projective algebraic varieties. In particular, we prove a Gromov-Witten type splitting axiom, and hence define quantum $K$-theory and quantum $\mathbb{K}$-theory as commutative deformations of the corresponding (generalised) cohomology rings of $X$; the definition of the quantum product involves the formal group of the underlying cohomology theory. The key geometric input to these results is a construction of global Kuranishi charts for moduli spaces of stable maps of arbitrary genus to $X$. On the algebraic side, in order to establish a common framework covering both ordinary $K$-theory and $K_p(n)$-local theories, we introduce a formalism of `counting theories' for enumerative invariants on a category of global Kuranishi charts., 63 pages, 2 figures
