Abstract

Nowadays, the process planning for sequencing NC (numerical control) machining operations is still done manually in principle. In the last decade several approaches for the automatic process planning based on artificial intelligence (AI) and heuristic algorithm are introduced. Nevertheless, the planner has to modify and acknowledge the generated work plans. In order to close this gap, a concept for enabling the automatic preparation for feature-based work plans with methods known from the graph theory is introduced in this paper. Therefore the work plan is mapped into a direct graph. As a result, it is possible to use algorithms to find the shortest path and a Hamiltonian path as an optimal sequenced solution. The potential field analysis will be used in order to compare the generated work plans. Therefore a workflow including knowledge representation, knowledge processing and an algorithm for computing the process plans are outlined. A demonstrator completes this paper.

Abstract

Bladed integrated disks are some of the most innovative and challenging components in modern gas turbine engines. Although, they reduce weight by 20% and improve efficiency compared with the conventional blade assembled disk, their main drawback is their high manufacturing cost. The aim of the present research is to design an integrated process chain for the production of compressor parts, in particular blisks, which will enable the reduction of costs. For this aim, the axiomatic design methodology will be applied. On the other hand, in order to retrieve, to structure and to share relevant engineering data, generated during the manufacturing process, a technology data catalogue (TDC) will be developed. While the axiomatic design methodology will provide the structure of the process chain, the TDC will provide manufacturing data needed for the design of the integrated process chain.

Abstract

Abstract The automotive industry is facing new challenges from increasing product diversification, decreasing product life cycle times and the permanent need of cost reduction. The increasing complexity of products and the reduction of costs per unit determine complex manufacturing systems with high levels of automation. The product ramp-up has a crucial role for the financial success in the automotive industry. The performance of a ramp-up depends on the maturity of product and manufacturing system. The reuse of knowledge of experience is an extraordinary driver for the maturity of both product and manufacturing system. A new approach combines the Delphi-method with experience management software based on semantic web technology. The combined solution enables to reuse experience for the development of highly automated manufacturing systems and to minimise ramp-up risks.

Abstract

The study of hypergeometric functions started in 1813 with a paper by Gauss. Hypergeometric functions are generalizations of classical elementary functions such as arcsin and log. Around 1900, Appell, Lauricella and Horn studied hypergeometric functions in several variables. At the end of the 1980's these functions were further generalized to A-hypergeometric functions by Gelfand, Graev, Kapranov and Zelevinsky. They defined an A-hypergeometric function to be a function satisfying a system of partial differential equations. This system depends on a set of lattice points A in Zn (hence the name A-hypergeometric function) and a parameter vector β. For some choices of the set A and the parameter vector β, the solutions of the A-hypergeometric system are algebraic functions, i.e. solutions of an algebraic equation. It is a natural question for which A and β the solutions are algebraic. A first answer to this question was given by Schwarz in 1873. He gave a list of all irreducible algebraic Gauss functions. This list has been extended to several other hypergeometric functions. These results were obtained before A-hypergeometric functions were defined in general, and hence do not use A-hypergeometric theory. Some years ago Beukers found a combinatorial criterion by which it can easily be checked whether an A-hypergeometric function is algebraic. In this PhD-thesis, Esther Bod uses this criterion to extend Schwarz' list to all irreducible algebraic Appell, Lauricella and Horn functions. Furthermore, she gives a classification of all sets A and parameter vectors β such that the convex hull of the points in A is at most 2-dimensional and the solutions of the A-hypergeometric system are algebraic. An important aspect of hypergeometric functions is their monodromy. The monodromy group is a representation of the fundamental group on the solution space of the system of differential equations. Hence it contains information about the analytic continuation of the solutions. It can be shown that the monodromy group is finite if and only if the solutions are algebraic. Up to now, algebraic functions were usually found by computing the monodromy group and determining the parameters for which it is finite. However, in this thesis Esther Bod first computes the algebraic functions by the combinatorial criterion mentioned above and then computes the monodromy groups of the algebraic Appell and Horn functions, using the fact that these groups are finite. For some of the Appell, Lauricella and Horn functions, there are 1-parameter families of algebraic functions. In this thesis explicit formulas, depending on the parameter, are given for these functions. The minimal polynomials and the Galois groups of these functions can easily computed from the formulas

Abstract

This thesis is about the study of Lie groupoids endowed with a multiplicative differential 1-form. The motivation of the present work is to study the geometry of PDEs using the formalism of Lie groupoids and multiplicative forms; as such, ideas from the two theories have to be introduced and explained from our point of view before new results can be presented. Therefore the thesis can be naturally split in two halves: the first, consisting of chapters 1, 2 and 3, recall the ideas and methods which are used in the second half, where the majority of original results are presented. It is important to remark that when considering multiplicative structures on Lie groupoids we shall employ two points of view: the one using differential forms and the dual picture with distributions. Chapter 1 provides some preliminaries that are used throughout the thesis. The aim of this chapter is twofold: on the one hand, it introduces concepts which may not be familiar to all readers in a way to ease them into the rest of the thesis, while on the other it provides crucial motivation for this work. In particular, some examples coming from Lie pseudogroups are discussed and a new notion of "generalized pseudogroups" is proposed. As many notions come from the classical theory of Pfaffian systems, it is important to understand their geometry conceptually. Chapters 2 and 3 are devoted to the study of this, starting with the easier-to-handle linear picture of relative connections in Chapter 2, passing to the global description of Chapter 3. In Chapter 4, we move to the theory of multiplicative forms on Lie groupoids and their infinitesimal counterparts on Lie algebroids. While this chapter can be read independently from the rest of the thesis, it presents ideas which are crucial to the understanding of Chapters 5 and 6. The main result of this chapter is the integrability theorem for multiplicative k-form with coefficients, which states that under the usual conditions we can recover a given multiplicative k-form from its infinitesimal data (a k-Spencer operator). Of course, k=1 is the relevant case for the thesis. Chapter 5 and 6 are the core of the thesis in terms of original results. In Chapter 6 everything comes together. The multiplicativity condition for Pfaffian groupoids simplifies the theory developed in Chapter 3, where all the notions here become "Lie theoretic''. In contrast with Chapter 3, integrability results can by applied to ensure that a Pfaffian groupoid can be recovered from its infinitesimal data (its Spencer operator). These are discussed in Chapter 5. Of course, as the linear counterpart of Pfaffian groupoids, they are the natural relative connections on the setting of Lie algebroids: they are compatible with the anchor and the Lie bracket. Chapter 6 also discusses some other results which stem from this thesis, such as the infinitesimal condition that ensures the Frobenius involutivity of the Pfaffian distribution, and integration of Jacobi structures to contact groupoids
