This article discusses a study that examines the risk factors associated with the progression of atopic dermatitis (AD) to allergic asthma (AA) and/or allergic rhinitis (AR), known as the Atopic March. The study focuses on a high-risk, minority, urban, low-income birth cohort and explores factors such as race/ethnicity, gender, breastfeeding, maternal obesity, preterm birth, and maternal atopy history. The findings suggest that being Black, male, exclusively breastfed, or born to mothers with obesity are risk factors for AD. Additionally, Hispanic ethnicity, nulliparity, preterm birth, and maternal atopy history are associated with the development of the Atopic March. The study provides valuable data for identifying early risk factors and potential interventions for children at high risk of the Atopic March. [Extracted from the article]
