102. Behavioural individuality determines infection risk in clonal ant colonies

- Abstract
In social groups, disease risk is not distributed evenly across group members. Individual behaviour is a key source of variation in infection risk, yet its effects are difficult to separate from those of other factors. Here, we combine long-term epidemiological experiments and automated tracking in clonal raider ant colonies, where behavioural individuality emerges among identical workers. We find that: 1) division of labour determines the distribution of parasitic nematodes (Diploscapter) among hosts, showing that differences in infection can emerge from behavioural variation alone, 2) infections affect colony social organisation by causing infected workers to stay in the nest. By disproportionally infecting some workers and shifting their spatial distribution, infections reduce division of labour and increase spatial overlap between hosts, which is expected to facilitate parasite transmission. Thus, division of labour, a defining feature of many societies, not only shapes infection risk and distribution but can also be modified by parasites.

Serviços de cidades inteligentes, como aqueles ligados à saúde, economia, turismo, educação, têm se beneficiado com iniciativas de transformação digital, que promovem o desenvolvimento de soluções para ajudar a gestão pública na tomada de decisões. Cada uma dessas áreas possui suas próprias características e desafios. Entretanto, ao observar o contexto dinâmico da cidade, é necessário aos gestores públicos entender qual o impacto de suas decisões. Diante disso, este projeto visa desenvolver uma plataforma de análise de dados e predição utilizando Big Data e Machine Learning, chamada BigDataFortaleza, com o objetivo de ajudar no planejamento estratégico de soluções para o desenvolvimento urbano sustentável de Fortaleza, no contexto de atuação do Instituto de Planejamento de Fortaleza (Iplanfor). Um dos desafios que surgem nesse cenário é a obtenção e análise dos dados e predições para tomada de decisão com foco na melhoria da colaboração e engajamento dos cidadãos, em consequência, da melhoria da qualidade de vida, especialmente a longo prazo. O desafio de entender melhor a demanda por creches, ligado ao domínio da Primeira Infância, foi escolhido para ser explorado inicialmente, uma vez que a gestão inteligente de dados pode auxiliar na tomada de decisões que podem contribuir com a melhoria do desenvolvimento infantil. Até o momento, diversas análises exploratórias e preditivas foram realizadas para responder questões essenciais desse domínio que foram levantadas em discussões com gestores da Prefeitura Municipal de Fortaleza. Além disso, foram criadas propostas de arquitetura e de interfaces de usuário para a plataforma. Com a finalização da implementação do cenário da Primeira Infância, outros cenários devem ser abordados, por exemplo, desafios ligados à habitação. Como potencial inovador do projeto, destaca-se o desenvolvimento das análises com foco na predição de demandas futuras.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-11-01 The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the FDA to authorize a new nucleoside analogue, remdesivir, for emergency use in affected individuals. We examined the effects of its active metabolite, remdesivir triphosphate (RTP), on the activity of the replicative mitochondrial DNA polymerase, Pol γ. We found that while RTP is not incorporated by Pol γ into a nascent DNA strand, it remains associated with the enzyme impeding its synthetic activity and stimulating exonucleolysis. In spite of that, we found no evidence for deleterious effects of remdesivir treatment on the integrity of the mitochondrial genome in human cells in culture. The heterogeneity of response to SARS-CoV-2 infection is directly linked to the individual genetic background. Genetic variants of inflammasome-related genes have been pointed as risk factors for several inflammatory sterile and infectious disease. In the group of inflammasome receptors, NLRP1 stands out as a good novel candidate as severity factor for COVID-19 disease.To address this question, we performed an association study of NLRP1, DPP9, CARD8, IL1B, and IL18 single nucleotide variants (SNVs) in a cohort of 945 COVID-19 patients.The NLRP1 p.Leu155His in the linker region, target of viral protease, was significantly associated to COVID-19 severity, which could contribute to the excessive cytokine release reported in severe cases.Inflammasome genetic background contributes to individual response to SARS-CoV-2.

- Abstract
Neste artigo, é descrito um estudo exploratório sobre o nível de confusão de alunos durante a aprendizagem de programação em ambientes computacionais de aprendizagem. Para tal, os dados de autorrelato de confusão e os logs das interações dos alunos com a plataforma foram coletados durante um semestre de aula. Ademais, foi estudada a relação do nível de confusão do aluno com o nível de dificuldade da tarefa, expresso pela taxa de acerto. Ao todo, foram analisados os relatos de 197 alunos e os logs de 185 questões. Nos resultados, foram identificados níveis mais altos de confusão em questões que continham estruturas condicionais e de repetição, assuntos que exigem uma lógica de programação mais aprimorada. Os resultados desse estudo são uma primeira etapa de uma pesquisa que visa a detecção automática do estado de confusão a partir das suas ações no ambiente computacional de aprendizagem, ou seja, de maneira independente dos relatos dos estudantes.

- Abstract
Juízes Online (JOs) são usados em disciplinas de programação para disponibilizar listas de exercícios e avaliações práticas. Porém, não é uma tarefa fácil criar listas selecionando exercícios com níveis de dificuldade adequados a cada turma. Uma forma de ajudar o professor nessa tarefa é apresentar indicadores de dificuldade para cada questão, tais como taxa de acerto, tempo de desenvolvimento médio, número de submissões, etc. No entanto, para questões novas, que ainda não foram solucionadas por nenhum aluno, não é possível calcular tais indicadores. Dessa forma, este trabalho usa aprendizagem de máquina para prever nove indicadores de dificuldade a partir de evidências extraídas de códigos de solução, cadastrados pelos professores no momento de criação das questões no JO. Como exemplo de resultado, o maior f1-score obtido foi para prever a taxa de acerto (0,920) em uma classificação binária e o menor foi para o número de submissões (0,560).

This clinical trial aimed to compare the efficacy of two protocols using high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) intra-articular injection in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) osteoarthritis and evaluate involvement of subchondral bone changes and psychosocial factors as predictors of HA treatment.Twenty-one individuals were divided into two groups: (A) received three intra-articular HA injections, and (B) received one injection. Outcomes observed were pain intensity, functional limitation, maximum voluntary mouth opening, maximum assisted mouth opening, and treatment tolerability. Follow-ups were performed weekly for 21 days, and two months after the treatment started.No statistically significant intergroup differences were observed in any of the evaluated outcomes. However, Group A showed significant improvement in all outcomes, whereas Group B showed significant improvement only in pain intensity and functional limitation.This study demonstrated the effectiveness of both protocols in terms of pain intensity and functional limitation caused by osteoarthritis.

O jogo computacional apresentado neste trabalho tem o propósito científico e é dotado de uma inteligência computacional que orienta a coleta de dados do percurso do jogador de modo a oportunizar novas descobertas científicas sobre aspectos da cognição humana. O processo de construção do jogo auxilia o estudante a “aprender a aprender”. O jogo sobre organelas celulares foi desenvolvido por estudantes de uma escola pública no Rio de Janeiro e aplicado em 37 estudantes de 1º ano do ensino médio, que participaram da pesquisa de forma voluntária. Para uma avaliação diagnóstica de como o jogador evoluiu na aquisição dos conceitos, este jogo é dotado de um sistema de coleta de dados que permite uma análise posterior do desempenho do jogador.

Sexually assaulted women represent a particularly high-risk group for developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Potentially traumatic events (PTEs) and peritraumatic dissociation (PD) are known risk factors for PTSD. However, little is known about how previous trauma affects PD and how this relationship affects PTSD. We aimed to investigate whether PD acts as a mediator between PTEs and PTSD severity in a sample of recently sexually assaulted women in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Seventy-four sexually assaulted women aged 18–44 completed questionnaires and structured interviews on PTSD, PD, and PTEs. We examined direct and indirect effects of variables using causal mediation analysis. Lifetime exposure to PTEs was a risk factor for PD, but PD was not a risk factor for PTSD symptom severity. Also, PD was not a mediator between PTEs and PTSD severity. We provided recommendations on how to further explore the relationship between lifetime traumatic exposure, PTSD, and peritraumatic dissociation.

- Abstract
Esta diretriz teve como objetivo principal atualizar os conceitos e formular as normas de conduta e evidências científicas que as suportam, quanto ao diagnóstico e tratamento da CDC, com especial ênfase na base de racionalidade que a embasou. A DC no século XXI mantém padrão epidemiológico de endemicidade em 21 países da América Latina. Investigadores e gestores de países endêmicos e não endêmicos indigitam a necessidade de se adotarem políticas abrangentes, de saúde pública, para controle eficaz da transmissão inter-humanos da infecção pelo T. cruzi, e obter-se nível otimizado de atendimento aos indivíduos já infectados, com foco em oportunização diagnóstica e terapêutica. Mecanismos patogênicos e fisiopatológicos da CDC foram revisitados após atualização aprofundada e ficou bem consolidada a noção de que necrose e fibrose sejam estimuladas pela persistência parasitária tissular e reação imune adversa, como mecanismos fundamentais, coadjuvados por distúrbios autonômicos e microvasculares. Alguns deles recentemente constituíram alvos potenciais de terapêuticas. A história natural das fases aguda e crônica foi revista, com realce para a transmissão oral, a forma indeterminada e as síndromes crônicas. Metanálises recentes de estudos observacionais estimaram o risco de evolução a partir das formas aguda e indeterminada e de mortalidade após instalação da cardiomiopatia crônica. Condutas terapêuticas aplicáveis aos indivíduos com a FIDC foram abordadas especificamente. Todos os métodos para detectar alterações estruturais e/ou funcionais com variadas técnicas de imageamento cardíaco também foram revisados, com recomendações de uso nos vários cenários clínicos. Estratificação de risco de mortalidade fundamentada no escore de Rassi, com estudos recentes de sua aplicação, foi complementada por métodos que detectam fibrose miocárdica. A metodologia atual para diagnóstico etiológico e as consequentes implicações do tratamento tripanossomicida mereceram enfoque abrangente e aprofundado. Também o tratamento de pacientes em risco ou com insuficiência cardíaca, arritmias e eventos tromboembólicos, baseado em recursos farmacológicos e complementares, recebeu especial atenção. Capítulos suplementares subsidiaram as condutas aplicáveis a diversos contextos especiais, entre eles o da co-infecção por T. cruzi/HIV, risco durante cirurgias, em grávidas, na reativação da infecção após transplante cardíacos, e outros. Por fim, dois capítulos de grande significado social, abordando a estruturação de serviços especializados para atendimento aos indivíduos com a CDC, e revisando os conceitos de cardiopatia grave e suas implicações médico-trabalhistas completaram esta diretriz.

Background and Aims Radiotherapy may cause hemorrhagic radiation proctopathy (HRP). For conservative treatment of refractory HRP, argon plasma coagulation (APC) is the first-choice therapy. Endorectal formalin instillation (EFI), in turn, is an attractive treatment option because of its satisfactory results, great availability, and low cost. Nevertheless, comparative studies between these procedures are rather scarce. This study aims to make a prospective and randomized comparison of the outcomes in 2 HRP patient groups treated with either APC or EFI. Methods Twenty-seven patients (11 women), with a mean age of 67 years (range, 36-83), were randomized to receive either APC (n = 14) or EFI (n = 13). On completion of the treatment, comparisons were made in relation to the baseline for each patient and between groups for endoscopic findings according to the Vienna score and the telangiectasia distribution pattern score (TDP); the impact of radiation proctitis on patients’ lives was made according to the modified radiation toxicity score (MRTS) and hemoglobin levels. Number of sessions, duration of therapy, and adverse events were also compared between groups. The endoscopic therapeutic success (ETS) was defined by the absence or only few residual telangiectasias (TDP ≤1) on conclusion. Results An ETS of 92.8% was achieved in patients treated with APC and 92.3% for those treated with EFI (P > .05); there was an MRTS improvement of 85.7% in APC patients and 69.2% in EFI patients (P > .05). Mild adverse events occurred, respectively, in 23% and 28.5% in the EFI and APC groups (P > .05). Conclusions The study showed that APC and EFI have similar efficacy and a high safety profile for HRP treatment. (Clinical trial registration number: 3.120.353.)

Fishing plays a prominent role in the socioeconomic scope of the Negro River basin and is considered one of the main extractive activities in the region. The objective of this study was to describe the socioeconomic aspects of commercial fishers of edible fish who work in the municipality of Barcelos, in the middle Negro River region, as well as to highlight the scenario of the fishing activity from the point of view of the fishers. The information was collected between January and December 2016 in the municipality of Barcelos, state of Amazonas, via semi-structured questionnaires. Most interviewees were male (71.14%), aged between 18 and 82 years and a mean age of 48 years. With a low level of education, 45.0% had only incomplete elementary education and 15% were illiterate. The fishing tackle most used by fishermen was the gillnet, especially by urban fishermen (70%). Among the fishing sites, the main one was the Demeni River (50%). Commercial fishing for edible fish in Barcelos focused on Characiformes, Perciformes and Siluriformes fish. The main difficulties faced by the activity are related to the seasonality of the level of rivers and local tributaries, as well as the lack of buyers and low selling price of fish, in addition to conflicts over the use of fishing resources. Commercial fishing for edible fish is an activity of great socioeconomic importance for riverside families in the Middle River Negro basin, which needs greater attention from the public authorities. Therefore, it is expected that the information contained in this study can help in the decision-making process for the management of local fisheries resources and contribute to the resumption of growth and sustainability of commercial edible fish fisheries.

All 37 mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-encoded genes involved with oxidative phosphorylation and intramitochondrial protein synthesis, and several nuclear-encoded genes involved with mtDNA replication, transcription, repair and recombination are conserved between the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster and mammals. This, in addition to its easy genetic tractability, has made Drosophila a useful model for our understanding of animal mtDNA maintenance and human mtDNA diseases. However, there are key differences between the Drosophila and mammalian systems that feature the diversity of mtDNA maintenance processes inside animal cells. Here, we review what is known about mtDNA maintenance in Drosophila, highlighting areas for which more research is warranted and providing a perspective preliminary in silico and in vivo analyses of the tissue specificity of mtDNA maintenance processes in this model organism. Our results suggest new roles (or the lack thereof) for well-known maintenance proteins, such as the helicase Twinkle and the accessory subunit of DNA polymerase γ, and for other Drosophila gene products that may even aid in shedding light on mtDNA maintenance in other animals. We hope to provide the reader some interesting paths that can be taken to help our community show how Drosophila may impact future mtDNA maintenance research.

The diagnostic ultrasound-guided high mechanical index (MI) impulses during an intravenous microbubble infusion (sonothrombolysis) improves myocardial perfusion in acute ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), but its effect on left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (DD), left atrial (LA) mechanics and remodeling are unknown. We assessed the effect of sonothrombolysis on DD grade and LA mechanics.100 patients (59±10 years; 34% women) were randomized to receive either high MI impulses plus percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) (therapy group), or receive PCI only (control group) (n=50 in each group). DD grade and LA mechanics were assessed immediately before and after PCI, 48-72 hours, 1 month and 6 months of follow-up. DD grades were classified as grade I, II and III. The LA mechanics was obtained by 2-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography-derived global longitudinal strain (GLS).As follow-up time progressed, increased DD grade was observed more frequently in the control group than the therapy at 1 month and 6 months of follow-up (all P0.05). The LA-GLS values were incrementally higher in the therapy group when compared with the control group at 48-72 hours, 24.0±7.3 in therapy group vs 19.6%±7.2% in control group, P=0.005; at 1 month, 25.3±6.3 in therapy group vs 21.5% ± 8.3% in control group, P=0.020; and at 6 months, 26.2±8.7 in therapy group vs 21.6%±8.5% in control group, P = 0.015. The therapy group were less likely to experience LA remodeling (OR, 2.91 [1.10 to 7.73]; P=0.03). LA-GLS was the sole predictor of LA remodeling (OR, 0.79 [0.67 to 0.94]; P=0.006).Sonothrombolysis is associated with better DD grade and LA mechanics, reducing LA remodeling.

The growing number of people who identify themselves as transgender has gained increased attention in recent years and will certainly impact personalized clinical practices and healthcare worldwide. Transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals frequently undergo gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), i.e., they use sex hormones to align their gender identity with their biological characteristics. Testosterone is the main compound used in GAHT by transmasculine people, leading to the development of male secondary sexual characteristics in these individuals. However, sex hormones, testosterone included, also influence hemodynamic homeostasis, blood pressure, and cardiovascular performance by direct effects in the heart and blood vessels, and by modulating several mechanisms that control cardiovascular function. In pathological conditions and when used in supraphysiological concentrations, testosterone is associated with harmful cardiovascular effects, requiring close attention in its clinical use. The present review summarizes current knowledge on the cardiovascular impact of testosterone in biological females, focusing on aspects of testosterone use by transmasculine people (clinical goals, pharmaceutical formulations, and impact on the cardiovascular system). Potential mechanisms whereby testosterone may increase cardiovascular risk in these individuals are discussed, and the influence of testosterone on the main mechanisms that control blood pressure and that potentially lead to hypertension development and target-organ damage are also reviewed. In addition, current experimental models, which are key to reveal testosterone mechanistic aspects and potential markers of cardiovascular injury, are reviewed. Finally, research limitations and the lack of data on cardiovascular health of transmasculine individuals are considered, and future directions for more appropriate clinical practices are highlighted. Este trabalho teve como finalidade apresentar estudos mecanísticos dos principais Processos Oxidativos Avançados (POAs) e alguns resultados, demonstrando a eficiência da tecnologia no tratamento de águas residuárias. Os POAs são técnicas capazes de gerar o radical hidroxila in situ, o que atribui uma enorme eficácia na degradação de diversos compostos recalcitrantes aos métodos convencionais. Tal efeito vem em razão dessa espécie química possuir elevado potencial de oxidação, sendo capaz de degradar matérias orgânicas como compostos organonitrogenados, organohalogenados e oxidar metais tóxicos, possibilitando a remoção dessa classe de poluente por filtração ou precipitação. O estudo mostra alguns resultados do emprego dos processos fotocatalíticos, eletroquímicos e fotoeletroquímicos no tratamento de águas residuárias reconhecidamente resistentes às principais tecnologias de tratamentos convencionais, proporcionando excelentes resultados na descoloração de percolado de aterro sanitário, efluentes têxteis e efluente da primeira extração alcalina (E1) da produção de papel e celulose. Os POAs podem oferecer opções viáveis para remediar problemas ambientais, reduzindo consideravelmente a poluição, além da grande versatilidade de adaptação aos tratamentos de várias efluentes aquosos.

A chitosanase (CvCsn46) from Chromobacterium violaceum ATCC 12472 was produced in Escherichia coli, purified, and partially characterized. When subjected to denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, the enzyme migrated as two protein bands (38 and 36 kDa apparent molecular masses), which were both identified as CvCsn46 by mass spectrometry. The enzyme hydrolyzed colloidal chitosan, with optimum catalytic activity at 50 °C, and two optimum pH values (at pH 6.0 and pH 11.0). The chitosanolytic activity of CvCsn46 was enhanced by some ions (Ca2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Sr2+, Mn2+) and DTT, whereas Fe2+, SDS and β-mercaptoethanol completely inhibited its activity. CvCsn46 showed a non-Michaelis-Menten kinetics, characterized by a sigmoidal velocity curve (R2 = 0.9927) and a Hill coefficient of 3.95. ESI-MS analysis revealed that the hydrolytic action of CvCsn46 on colloidal chitosan generated a mixture of low molecular mass chitooligosaccharides, containing from 2 to 7 hexose residues, as well as D-glucosamine. The chitosan oligomers generated by CvCsn46 inhibited in vitro the mycelial growth of Lasiodiplodia theobromae, significantly reducing mycelium extension and inducing hyphal morphological alterations, as observed by scanning electron microscopy. CvCsn46 was characterized as a versatile biocatalyst that produces well-defined chitooligosaccharides, which have potential to control fungi that cause important crop diseases.

In this paper, we investigate the physical basis behind the molecular biochirality from the computation of a parity violation energy difference (PVED) in enantiomers of organic molecules (e.g., amino acids, which occur as levogyrous-type in nature), by considering the influence of fundamental interactions beyond the standard model of elementary particles and interactions. Particularly, we study the role of a 4-D Chern-Simons theory at the origin of this PVED, the Carroll-Field-Jackiw electrodynamics, which violates both Lorentz and parity symmetries. Then, we consider terrestrial and Jovian scenarios where the influence of a modified (effective) magnetic field generated by the planets on the molecules is taken into account in the calculation of PVED. Besides this quantity, we also calculate the relative quantity excess of an enantiomer over the other in a thermal bath. O ensino superior brasileiro de Computação está sofrendo uma grande pressão nesta fase que se encaminha para uma pós-pandemia. Os sintomas de um desalinhamento com as necessidades da sociedade e das empresas de Computação já vinham sendo percebidos, e a pandemia, com a consolidação de formas de trabalho híbrido, reforçou essa percepção. A formação tradicional em Computação seguiu de perto o modelo da Engenharia, um período de dois anos com conteúdos fundamentais relacionados com matemática, física e química, eventualmente desenho. Em Computação, são tratados conceitos fundamentais como teoria da computação, algoritmos, estruturas de dados e arquitetura de computadores. O resultado é que, apenas ao final deste longo período, os estudantes estão aptos a começar sua profissionalização. Em paralelo com a formação acadêmica tradicional realizada pelas faculdades e universidades, surgem as ditas faculdades de empresas e bootcamps onde encontramos percepções de que o essencial são as competências adquiridas e não um título acadêmico. Essa é a primeira indicação de desalinhamento. O Instituto de Computação da Universidade Federal do Amazonas visando em preparar seus alunos para as novas competências exigidas pelo do mercado de trabalho e pela sociedade, iniciou um projeto de monitoria com o objetivo geral de aplicar a metodologia ativa POGIL (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning - em português, Processo de Aprendizagem Orientado por Pesquisas Guiadas) no ensino de Introdução à Programação de Computadores(IPC). POGIL é uma metodologia de ensino ativa orientada a processos, centrada no aluno. Com esta metodologia os alunos aprendem através da construção colaborativa dos conceitos desenvolvidos durante as atividades. As atividades são desenvolvidas pelos professores e devem atender um ciclo de aprendizagem que inclui as etapas de exploração, interpretação de conceitos e aplicação. Durante a aplicação das atividades, os alunos formam grupos e assumem funções específicas como o Secretário que é responsável pelo gerenciamento dos documentos desenvolvidos pelo grupo, o Apresentador que é responsável por expor para a turma as respostas ou dúvidas encontradas durante a atividade. Delegar funções para os alunos durante o processo é muito importante para que eles possam desenvolver as competências citadas. Para este projeto, foram desenvolvidas 7 atividades em grupo para que serão aplicadas na modalidade de ensino remoto, abordando os seguintes conceitos: operadores aritméticos, variáveis e estrutura sequencial, condicionais, loops, vetores e matrizes. 149. Trends in osteoporosis care patterns during the COVID-19 pandemic in Alberta, Canada

Purpose/introduction The objective of this study was to describe osteoporosis-related care patterns during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Alberta, Canada, relative to the 3-year preceding. Methods A repeated cross-sectional study design encompassing 3-month periods of continuous administrative health data between March 15, 2017, and September 14, 2020, described osteoporosis-related healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) and treatment patterns. Outcomes included patients with osteoporosis-related healthcare encounters, physician visits, diagnostic and laboratory test volumes, and treatment initiations and disruptions. The percent change between outcomes was calculated, averaged across the control periods (2017–2019), relative to the COVID-19 periods (2020). Results Relative to the average control March to June period, all HCRU declined during the corresponding COVID-19 period. There was a reduction of 14% in patients with osteoporosis healthcare encounters, 13% in general practitioner visits, 9% in specialist practitioner visits, 47% in bone mineral density tests, and 13% in vitamin D tests. Treatment initiations declined 43%, 26%, and 35% for oral bisphosphonates, intravenous bisphosphonates, and denosumab, respectively. Slight increases were observed in the proportion of patients with treatment disruptions. In the subsequent June to September period, HCRU either returned to or surpassed pre-pandemic levels, when including telehealth visits accounting for 33–45% of healthcare encounters during the COVID periods. Oral bisphosphonate treatment initiations remained lower than pre-pandemic levels. Conclusions This study demonstrates the COVID-19 pandemic and corresponding public health lockdowns further heightened the “crisis” around the known gap in osteoporosis care and altered the provision of care (e.g., use of telehealth and initiation of treatment). Summary Osteoporosis has a known substantial care and management disparity, which has been classified as a crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic created additional burden on osteoporosis patient care with healthcare encounters, physician visits, diagnostic and laboratory tests, and treatment initiations all declining during the initial pandemic period, relative to previous years.

This article describes training in social skills for children in situations of social vulnerability. 13 children participated, aged 7 to 12 years, linked to the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS). The children participated in 11 sessions and their parents in 2 sessions, all lasting 90 minutes. GThe inclusion of social skills training in CRAS as a strategy for preventing and reducing risk factors in childhood is discussed.
