Abstract

Objectives The Iseult MRI is an actively shielded whole-body magnet providing a homogeneous and stable magnetic field of 11.7 T. After nearly 20 years of research and development, the magnet successfully reached its target field strength for the first time in 2019. This article reviews its commissioning status, the gradient–magnet interaction test results and first imaging experience. Materials and methods Vibration, acoustics, power deposition in the He bath, and field monitoring measurements were carried out. Magnet safety system was tested against outer magnetic perturbations, and calibrated to define a safe operation of the gradient coil. First measurements using parallel transmission were also performed on an ex-vivo brain to mitigate the RF field inhomogeneity effect. Results Acoustics measurements show promising results with sound pressure levels slightly above the enforced limits only at certain frequency intervals. Vibrations of the gradient coil revealed a linear trend with the B0 field only in the worst case. Field monitoring revealed some resonances at some frequencies that are still under investigation. Discussion Gradient-magnet interaction tests at up to 11.7 T are concluded. The scanner is now kept permanently at field and the final calibrations are on-going to pave the road towards the first acquisitions on volunteers.

Abstract

Abstract. As a result of significant recent developments, the management of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is changing, and new therapeutic options will continue to emerge in the near future. The recommendations of the French Innovative Leukemia Organization (FILO-CLL) group presented here are intended to provide practical recommendations for physicians taking care of CLL patients, taking into account the availability of both biological tests and therapies in daily practice in France at the time of publication. This text details the documented information and guidelines on diagnosis, indications for treatment, infectious complications and therapeutic strategies in frontline and relapsed CLL as well as in particular conditions such as autoimmune cytopenia or Richter syndrome.

Abstract

This study evaluates the ability of a choline chloride:ethylene glycol‐based deep eutectic solvent (DES) to dissolve lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) which is used as a cathode active material in Li‐ion batteries. Both a commercial powder and spent cathodes have been used. It was demonstrated that if HCl is added in a small proportion, a rapid and efficient LCO dissolution can be achieved. Indeed, if more than three protons are added per one cobalt atom present in the LCO structure, a complete dissolution of the material is accomplished within 2 h at 80 °C. This result might be considered as a viable alternative compared to the literature where much longer reaction times and higher temperatures are applied to achieve similar results with the same DES system used either pure or in presence of additional reducing agents. It was further demonstrated that Co and Li can be fully precipitated after Li2CO3 addition. This precipitation does neither pollute the DES nor leads to its degradation provided the pH does not exceed 10. Finally, it was shown that two additional reuse cycles can be carried out without any decrease of recovery efficiency, while no degradation products have been detected within the DES phase. 145. Crustal Structure and Stratigraphy of the South Mozambique Margin to South Mozambique Ridge From Combined Wide‐Angle and Reflection Seismic and Drill Hole Data

Abstract

We have analyzed the MZ6 onshore‐offshore wide‐angle seismic profile of the MOZ3‐5 survey to investigate the crustal structure of the South Mozambique passive margin. The NNW‐SSE, 625 km‐long profile runs across the Mozambique coastal plain (MCP), the Continental Shelf and Slope, the Almirante Leite Ridge (ALR), the North Natal Valley (NNV), the Ariel Graben and the Dana Plateau of the Mozambique Ridge. Forward modeling through combined interpretation of the multichannel seismic, the main reflected and refracted phases of the wide‐angle, drill hole data and bathymetric data reveal: (a) a sedimentary cover poorly compacted up to 3 km‐thick, intruded by magmatic dykes that reach the seafloor at the ALR forming 0.5 to 5 km‐wide corrugated mounts, (b) between 2 and 7 km, thick magmatic or volcano‐clastic deposits are observed both at the MCP and NNV, forming a 40 km‐wide terrace at the center of MZ6 and southward‐dipping reflectors in the southern part interpreted as the Pre‐Neocomian Formation contemporary of the Karroo and/or Bombeni‐Movene magmatic events reached in several wells, (c) onshore, the 3‐layered crust reaches 39 km thickness, gradually thinning to ∼27 km at the southern end of MZ6. In the deepest layer, velocities exceed 7.15 km/s, reaching at its base 7.55 km/s at the vertical of the ALR. (d) the seismic Moho is marked by a strong reflection on the wide‐angle data. These results suggests that the basement is composed of slightly thinned and altered continental crust, most likely intruded by several phases of intense magmatism.

Abstract

The North Natal valley (NNV), South Mozambique margin, is a key area for the understanding of the SW Indian Ocean history since the Gondwana break-up as its crustal nature and geometry strongly impacted the reconstruction of the paleogeography before the rifting. It is also of considerable importance for the understanding of the evolution of a margin system as the NNV is situated at the transition between divergent and strike-slip segments and at the conjunction of Oxfordian-Kimmeridgian Indian Ocean and the Valanginian-Aptian Atlantic one. As one part of the PAMELA project (PAssive Margins Exploration Laboratories), the NNV and the East Limpopo margin have been investigated during the MOZ3/5 cruise (2016), through the acquisition of 7 intersecting wide-angle profiles and coincident marine multichannel (720 traces) seismic as well as potential field data. Simultaneously, land seismometers were deployed in the Mozambique coastal plain (MCP), extending six of those profiles on land for about 100 km in order to provide information on the onshore-offshore transition. Wide-angle seismic data are of major importance as they can highlight constraints on the crustal structure of the margin and the position of the continent-ocean boundary in an area where the crustal nature is poorly known and largely controversial. The MOZ3/5 data set therefore reveals new essential constraints for kinematic reconstructions. This work presents results on the crustal structure from P-waves velocity modeling along two E-W wide-angle profiles (MZ1 and MZ2) through the NNV, from the Lebombo Monocline to the Mozambique Basin (MB), and crossing the Mozambique Fracture Zone (MFZ). The new geophysical data reveals an upper sedimentary sequence characterized by low velocities generally not exceeding 3 km/s, and up to 3 km thick where a major contouritic structure was observed.
