Cyantraniliprole is a novel anthranilic diamide insecticide registered for controlling chewing and sucking insect pests. Here, the lethal and sublethal effects of this insecticide on two destructive lepidopteran pests, Spodoptera littoralis Boisduval and Agrotis ipsilon Hufnagel, were evaluated. Because the effects of novel insecticides on beneficial and non-target arthropods must be considered, the impact of cyantraniliprole on a generalist biological control agent, Chrysoperla carnea [Stephens 1836], were also examined. Overall, our study revealed that cyantraniliprole was more toxic to A. ipsilon than to S. littoralis. Moreover, the LC15 and LC50 of the insecticide significantly prolonged the duration of the larval and pupal stages and induced enzymatic detoxification activity in both species. Treatment of the second-instar larvae of C. carnea with the recommended concentration of cyantraniliprole (0.75 mg/L) doubled the mortality rates and resulted in a slight negative effect on the biology and detoxification enzymes of C. carnea. Our results indicate that both sublethal and lethal concentrations of cyantraniliprole can successfully suppress S. littoralis and A. ipsilon populations. They also suggest that C. carnea, as a generalist predator, is compatible with cyantraniliprole under the modelled realistic field conditions. In future investigations, insights into the effects of cyantraniliprole on S. littoralis, A. ipsilon, and C. carnea under field conditions will be required to appropriately validate our results.

Comprehension of the long-term effects of irrigation on basic soil characteristics and quality is essential for sustainable land management and agricultural production, particularly in arid regions where water availability is limited. This study aimed to investigate long-term irrigation effects on soil quality, soil organic carbon (SOC), and nitrogen (N) stocks in the arid lands of Egypt. Seventy soil samples were collected and analyzed to determine various soil properties. A soil quality index (SQI), SOC, and N stocks were computed. ANOVA and PCA analyses were used to identify significant differences between alluvial soils in the southwest part of the investigated area and coastal marine soils in the northeast of the study area. The results demonstrated that most of the studied soil parameters had significantly greater values in alluvial compared to coastal marine soils. Long-term irrigation led to an 8.00% increase in SOC and 7.22% increase in N stocks compared to coastal marine soils production. Furthermore, a 39.53% increase was found in the SQI upon long-term irrigation practice. These results suggest that shifting from rain-fed in coastal marine areas to irrigated production systems in alluvial fields can improve soil quality, SOC, and N stocks. Therefore, further studies are required to investigate the impact of additional factors, such as irrigation method and salinity status of sub-surface soil layers, to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainable land use.

The whitefly, Bemisia tabaci (Genn.), is one of the most dangerous polyphagous pests in the world. Eco-friendly compounds and new chemical insecticides have gained recognition for whitefly control. In this study, the toxicity and biochemical impact of flometoquin, flonicamid, and sulfoxaflor, alone or combined with lemongrass essential oil (EO), against B. tabaci was studied. In addition, a molecular docking study was conducted to assess the binding affinity of the tested compounds to AchE. Based on the LC values, the descending order of the toxicity of the tested compounds to B. tabaci adults was as follows: sulfoxaflor > flonicamid > flometoquin > lemongrass EO. The binary mixtures of each of the tested compounds with lemongrass EO exhibited synergism in all combinations, with observed mortalities ranging from 15.09 to 22.94% higher than expected for an additive effect. Sulfoxaflor and flonicamid, alone or in combination with lemongrass EO, significantly inhibited AchE activity while only flonicamid demonstrated a significant impact on α-esterase, and none of the tested compounds affected cytochrome P450 or GST. However, the specific activity of P450 was significantly inhibited by the lemongrass/sulfoxaflor mixture while α-esterase activity was significantly inhibited by the lemongrass/flometoquin mixture. Moreover, the lemongrass EO and all the tested insecticides exhibited significant binding affinity to AchE with energy scores ranging from −4.69 to −7.06 kcal/mol. The current findings provide a foundation for utilizing combinations of essential oils and insecticides in the integrated pest management (IPM) of B. tabaci.

Abstract The development of dielectric constant materials for energy storage applications is in high demand. Lead zirconate and lead zirconate titanate doping with erbium thin films and bulk-based devices with variant dielectric constant were created in this work. Pb(0.9)-Er0.01Zr(0.09) (PEZ) and Pb0.9-Er0.01-Zr0.045-Ti0.045 (PEZT) thin films were produced on a glass substrate using a sol–gel doctor blade technique at low temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and electron diffraction (ED) were used to examine the structure of the produced nanocrystals. PEZ and PEZT films had nanocrystals that were 9.5 nm and 15 nm in size, respectively, whereas PEZ and PEZT bulk nano-rods had 455 ± 5 nm in length and 45 ± 1 nm in diameter. The TEM and XRD results were found to be completely consistent in terms of particle size. Ferroelectric properties and dielectric characteristics were found to be frequency dependent. Dielectric experiments revealed that the dielectric constant was decreasing for bulk samples compared to film samples. The energy-storage efficiency of PEZ films was roughly 66.01%, and 67.8% for PEZT. The residual polarization of the Er-doped PEZ and PEZT films was the highest, reaching 36.25 μC/cm2 and 69.79 μC/cm2, respectively, and the coercive fields were 43 kV/cm and 45.43 kV/cm, respectively. On the other hand, PEZ and PEZT bulk samples had residual polarizations of 27.15 μC/cm2 and 37.29 μC/cm2, respectively, while having coercive fields of 32.3 kV/cm and 39.3 kV/cm, respectively. It was found that (PEZ) and (PEZT) samples may have potential use in energy storage applications.

Abstract The members of the genus Phyllanthus have long been used in the treatment of a broad spectrum of diseases. They exhibited antiproliferative activity against various human cancer cell lines. Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and a leading cause of cancer death among women. Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anticancer agent used to treat breast cancer despite its significant cardiotoxicity along with resistance development. Therefore, this study was designed to assess the potential cytotoxicity of P. niruri extracts (and fractions) alone and in combination with DOX against naïve (MCF-7) and doxorubicin-resistant breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7ADR). The methylene chloride fraction (CH2Cl2) showed the most cytotoxic activity among all tested fractions. Interestingly, the CH2Cl2-fraction was more cytotoxic against MCF-7ADR than MCF-7 at 100 µg/mL. At sub-cytotoxic concentrations, this fraction enhanced the cytotoxic effect of DOX against the both cell lines under investigation (IC50 values of 0.054 µg/mL and 0.14 µg/mL vs. 0.2 µg/mL for DOX alone against MCF-7) and (1.2 µg/mL and 0.23 µg/mL vs. 9.9 µg/mL for DOX alone against MCF-7ADR), respectively. Further, TLC fractionation showed that B2 subfraction in equitoxic combination with DOX exerted a powerful synergism (IC50 values of 0.03 µg/mL vs. 9.9 µg/mL for DOX alone) within MCF-7ADR. Untargeted metabolite profiling of the crude methanolic extract (MeOH) and CH2Cl2 fraction exhibiting potential cytotoxicity was conducted using liquid chromatography diode array detector-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-DAD-QTOF). Further studies are needed to separate the active compounds from the CH2Cl2 fraction and elucidate their mechanism(s) of action.

Objective The study aims to identify the prevalence and risk factors for OSA in a group of Egyptian patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods 125 type 2 diabetes mellitus patients visited Mansoura University Hospital (Diabetes Mellitus Outpatient Clinic (OPC) at Specialized Medical Hospital and the Sleep Disordered Breathing Unit of the Chest Department), all of them exposed to history taking, the patients underwent anthropometric measurements (weight, height, body mass index, neck circumference), a test of their tonsillar size, Malampati score, Friedman OSA score, Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS), Berlin questionnaire, STOP BANG questionnaire, full-night polysomnography, fasting, and postprandial blood sugar. Results The study included 125 T2DM Egyptian patients with a mean age of 54.63 ± 9.47 years. Males accounted for 35.2 percent of patients, while females accounted for 64.8%. According to the study of co-morbidity, hypertension constituted 77 (61.1%), ischemic heart disease 28 (22.4%), other cardiac diseases 11 (8.8%), bronchial asthma 6 (4.8%), liver diseases 6 (4.8%), hypothyroidism 3 (2.4%), and renal diseases 3 (2.4%). A total of seven patients (5.6%) had no OSA symptoms, 87 had borderline symptoms, and 31 had positive symptoms. There were 51 (40.8%) normal patients, 12 (9.6%) borderline patients, and 62 (49.6%) sleepy patients on the Epworth scale. According to the Stop-Bang questionnaire, 121 (96.8%) patients answered positively. It was determined that 122 patients (97.6%) were at high risk based on the Berlin questionnaire. There were 17 patients (13.6%) with OSA on polysomnography, of which six were moderate (35.3%) and 11 were severe (64.7%). Among moderate and severe OSA patients, glycosylated hemoglobin levels differed significantly. Multivariate logistic regression analysis for independent predictors of OSA, chronic renal disease patients is the most common associated risk factor (OR = 14.3, CI = 1.2–67) then hypertension (OR = 5.6,CI=1.2–25.5) and heart failure (OR = 4.4). Conclusions OSA affects 13.6% patients with type 2 diabetes patients who are hypertensive are at higher risk of OSA, chronic renal failure is considered another risk factorFurthers studies are needed on a big scale of Egyptian diabetic patients to detect the prevalence of OSA

Through various scales of observation, ranging from remote sensing data, field investigations, hand specimens, microscopic petrographic examinations, XRD, to SEM, indicators of various mineralization types are highlighted in Ras El-kharit-wadi Khashir (Eastern Desert, Egypt). Systematic remote sensing exploration of the mineralized zones is performed through integrating Sentinel 2 and ASTER datasets. False-color combinations, informative band ratios, relative absorption band depth, and CEM techniques were applied to discriminate rock units and various types of hydrothermal alterations. Moreover, ALOS PALSAR DEM was utilized to decipher the structural lineaments. Intensive field investigations confirmed hydrothermally altered zones that were picked out through remote sensing analysis and revealed that the study area is affected by cataclastic metamorphism to some extent. Magmatic and metamorphic rock types are represented by propylitic, phyllic, argillic, and silicification zones. Sericitization, chloritization, epidotization, kaolinitization, carbonatization, and silicification are recorded utilizing petrographic and remote sensing investigations. Moreover, the current study reveals that the detected alteration is the main reason for the apparent wide range of petrographic characteristics of each rock type and bearing several opaque minerals, such as pyrite, magnetite, titanomagnetite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, covellite, galena, goethite, and hematite. Most of these opaques were identified using ore microscopy, XRD, and SEM. The distribution of hydrothermal alterations, representative samples bearing mineralization, structurally dissected zones are integrated to build a mineral potentiality map of the study area. The resultant MPM was confirmed via field survey and emphasized the usefulness of the current integrated approach besides highlighting about 125 km2 as potential mineralized zones.

Abstract Background Montmorillonite clay modified by organosulfur surfactants possesses high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and adsorption capacity than their unmodified form (UM), therefore they may elevate the adverse impact of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) on ruminal fermentation and methanogenesis. Chemical and mechanical modifications were used to innovate the organically modified nano montmorillonite (MNM). The UM was modified using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and grounded to obtain the nanoscale particle size form. The dose-response effects of the MNM supplementation to a basal diet contaminated or not with AFB1 (20 ppb) were evaluated in vitro using the gas production (GP) system. The following treatments were tested: control (basal diet without supplementations), UM diet [UM supplemented at 5000 mg /kg dry matter (DM)], and MNM diets at low (500 mg/ kg DM) and high doses (1000 mg/ kg DM). Results Results of the Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy analysis showed shifts of bands of the OH-group occurred from lower frequencies to higher frequencies in MNM, also an extra band at the lower frequency range only appeared in MNM compared to UM. Background: Congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (CAKUT) are the most common cause of chronic kidney disease among children and adults younger than 30 yr. In our previous study, whole-exome sequencing (WES) identified a known monogenic cause of isolated or syndromic CAKUT in 13% of families with CAKUT. However, WES has limitations and detection of copy number variations (CNV) is technically challenging, and CNVs causative of CAKUT have previously been detected in up to 16% of cases. Objective: To detect CNVs causing CAKUT in this WES cohort and increase the diagnostic yield. Design, setting, and participants: We performed a genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-based CNV analysis on the same CAKUT cohort for whom WES was previously conducted. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis: We evaluated and classified the CNVs using previously published predefined criteria. Results and limitations: In a cohort of 170 CAKUT families, we detected a pathogenic CNV known to cause CAKUT in nine families (5.29%, 9/170). There were no competing variants on genome-wide CNV analysis or WES analysis. In addition, we identified novel likely pathogenic CNVs that may cause a CAKUT phenotype in three of the 170 families (1.76%). Conclusions: CNV analysis in this cohort of 170 CAKUT families previously examined via WES increased the rate of diagnosis of genetic causes of CAKUT from 13% on WES to 18% on WES + CNV analysis combined. We also identified three candidate loci that may potentially cause CAKUT. Patient summary: We conducted a genetics study on families with congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT). We identified gene mutations that can explain CAKUT symptoms in 5.29% of the families, which increased the percentage of genetic causes of CAKUT to 18% from a previous study, so roughly one in five of our patients with CAKUT had a genetic cause. These analyses can help patients with CAKUT and their families in identifying a possible genetic cause.

Precision agriculture relies heavily on information concerning assessing and mapping the spatial variation of soil attributes to ensure soil and plant sustainability. The current study was undertaken in the Gharb El-Mawhoub area of Dakhla Oasis to determine, predict, map, and assess the spatial variation of physicochemical attributes. Thirty-four geo-referenced soil profiles yielded a sum of 131 representative samples. Soil physicochemical properties, i.e., electrical conductivity (ECe), texture, sand, silt, clay, calcium carbonate, organic matter saturation percentage (SP), pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic matter (OM), exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), gypsum, and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) were measured. Following data normalization, classical and geostatistical approaches have been performed to characterize soil parameters and their spatial distribution. Semi-variogram models were used to quantify the spatial variation of physicochemical properties, and the ordinary kriging technique was applied to generate the respective maps. Nanocomposites based on hydroxyapatite (HAP) are fabricated with/without combining graphene oxide (GO) and silver oxide (Ag2O). All compositions are structurally investigated using x-ray diffraction (XRD). In addition, the lattice parameters were estimated. Lattice constants a and c of hexagonal HAP symmetry are around 9.42 and 6.88 Å, respectively. Further, the lattice constant of Ag2O is around 4.736 Å. Moreover, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is used besides X-ray photoelectron (XPS) to investigate the composition. The morphological study was done with the scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). In this regard, Ag2O is exhibited as nano-spherical grains, while HAP was shown in nanorod grains. The dimensions of HAP decreased from 39 to 16 to 34 and 7 nm for length and diameter. The average roughness parameter (Ra) increased from 23.3 to 67.5 nm from HAP to TNC. The parameters of average maximum height (Rtm), maximum peak height (Rp), and maximum valley depth (Rv) reached 439.3, 261.3, and 251.8 nm respectively. Further, the Ca/P ratio is detected with a value of 1.5. Besides, cell viability of osteoblast cell lines increased from 95.9 ± 3 to 101.2 ± 5%. In addition, the antibacterial behavior increased to 21.6 ± 2.3 and 21.1 ± 1.4 mm for TNC against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, respectively.

Abstract Background Epilepsy is a prevalent disease worldwide. Executive functions and social cognition are essential in daily living functioning, academic performance, and social adjustment. This study attempts to investigate the executive functions and ability to abstract social concepts in adolescents who have idiopathic generalized epilepsy and assess if the deterioration in executive functions can predict deterioration in the ability to abstract social concepts. Sixty adolescents with idiopathic generalized epilepsy aged between 12 and 19 collected from the neurology outpatient clinic at Sohag University Hospital in Upper Egypt were compared with 60 age- and sex-matched healthy adolescents regarding performance on executive function tests and ability to abstract social concepts tests. We used the Tower test to assess planning, the design fluency test to assess cognitive flexibility, the verbal fluency test to assess verbal fluency, and the Stroop test (overlapping between colour and word test) to assess inhibition and ability to abstract the social concepts test, which is composed of verbal part and performance part. Results Adolescents who have idiopathic generalized epilepsy have worse executive function impairment in all executive functions than control adolescents. Adolescents with idiopathic epilepsy have significantly more impairment in the ability to abstract social concepts (verbal and performance) compared to control adolescents. There is a significant correlation between executive functions and the ability to abstract social concepts (verbal and performance) in epileptic and control adolescents. Impairment in some executive functions can predict impairment in the ability to abstract social concepts (verbal and performance) in epileptic and control adolescents. Executive function impairment is correlated with the duration of illness, frequency of seizures per year, time since last epileptic fit, and presence of interictal epileptic discharge in EEG in the patient group. Conclusions Executive functions and the ability to abstract social concepts are significantly impaired in adolescents who have idiopathic generalized epilepsy. Impairment in executive functions can predict impairment in the ability to abstract social concepts. There is a need to screen executive functions and social abilities of adolescents with epilepsy and programmes to enhance these abilities.

Abstract Rabbits have been proposed as a model for the human meibomian gland (MG), a large specific sebaceous gland in the eyelid that consists of secretory acini arranged laterally and related to the central duct via short ductules, with the central duct continuing as an excretory duct to open at the free margin of the lid. First detected at embryonic day 18 as an aggregation of mesenchymal cells in the tarsal plate, it completes its development approximately 2 weeks postnatal when the separation of the eyelids is completed. The Transmission electron microscopy supports the meibocytes’ gradient maturation to the meibum’s synthesis. While the differentiating cells, their cytoplasm, are well packed with lipid droplets, the basal cells are characterized by a high nuclear to cytoplasm ratio. The androgen and estrogen receptor proteins are expressed in the basal cell and the meibocytes, and increase in age increases in the expression of these proteins. Additionally, the cytokeratin (CK14) is expressed in the basal and differentiating cells of the acini and the ductal epithelium. Therefore, the duct cells of the MG are common in all stem cells. These data concluded that the MG plays a major role in maintaining the health of the ocular surface and preservation of visual acuity. Any abnormalities in the structure of the MG lead to its dysfunction and changes in lipid secretion.

Abstract Identifying and locating stem cell populations in the limbus may lead to developing a cell-based strategy for treating the corneal injury. Therefore, this study was the first to design a follow-up on the microscopical and histomorphometric changes in the rabbit limbus and to localize and demonstrate the limbal stem cell niche during postnatal development. The paraffin sections from the eyes of different postnatal-developmental stages were stained and examined using light microscopy. Furthermore, sections were immunohistologically stained for the epithelial stem cell differentiation marker, cytokeratin-14. Moreover, semithin and ultrathin sections were applied for ultrastructural demonstration of the stem cell niche. This study revealed that the number and thickness of limbal epithelial layers increased with age, whereas the thickness of limbal stroma decreased. Additionally, the immunohistochemical data showed that ck14 staining intensity increased in the limbal region where limbal stem cells reside. The semithin and ultrastructure investigation revealed stem cell clusters within the limbus’s underlying stroma close to the blood and nerve supply and surrounded by telocytes. Conclusively, isolated clusters of limbal epithelial stem cells combined with blood vessels, nerve fibers, and telocytes propose a harmonious microenvironment of a stem cell niche.

IntroductionOsmoprotectant supplementation can be used as a useful approach to enhance plant stress tolerance. However, the effect of silymarin and clove fruit extract (CFE) on wheat plants grown under cadmium (Cd) stress has not been studied.MethodsWheat seeds were planted in plastic pots filled with ions-free sand. A ½-strength Hoagland’s nutrient solution was used for irrigation. Pots were treated with eight treatments thirteen days after sowing: 1) Control, 2) 0.5 mM silymarin foliar application [silymarin], 3) 2% CFE foliar application [CFE], 4) CFE enriched with silymarin (0.24 g silymarin L-1 of CFE) [CFE-silymarin], 5) Watering wheat seedlings with a nutritious solution of 2 mM Cd [Cd]. 6) Cadmium + silymarin, 7) Cadmium + CFE, and 8) Cadmium + CFE-silymarin. The experimental design was a completely randomized design with nine replicates. Results and discussionThe Cd stress decreased grain yield, shoot dry weight, leaf area, carotenoids, chlorophylls, stomatal conductance, net photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, membrane stability index, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content by 66.9, 60.6, 56.7, 23.8, 33.5, 48.1, 41.2, 48.7, 42.5, 24.1, 39.9, and 24.1%, respectively. On the other hand, Cd has an Application of CFE, silymarin, or CEF-silymarin for wheat plants grown under Cd stress, significantly improved all investigated biochemical, morphological, and physiological variables and enhanced the antioxidant enzyme activities. Applying CFE and/or silymarin enhanced plant tolerance to Cd stress more efficiently. Our findings suggest using CFE-silymarin as a meaningful biostimulator for wheat plants to increase wheat plants’ tolerance to Cd stress via enhancing various metabolic and physiological processes.

In the light of the current challenges and events taking place in the world as a result of the global epidemic covid 19, it has influenced many sectors, particularly the cultural and artistic sectors, which depend mainly on the interaction between the artist and the audience in the closed galleries of different cultural centres.As a result of the actions witnessed by the world, the need for social divergence, the trend to open spaces without closed halls, and taking into account the economic aspects that have been greatly affected by this epidemic, which led to the importance of the role of interior design in finding design solutions in light of these new needs through the use of temporary origin and the subsequent modern technology aimed at achieving functional, economic and aesthetic aspects, taking into account modern design directions to reach the design of a temporary exhibition model that takes into account the dynamic thought in Design and implementation. This is what the research will seek to reach and clarify. Within this perspective, the role of temporary origin came in the newly ravaged epidemic crisis, which obliged places with activities held in closed spaces to stop, particularly art exhibitions at the cultural centres in question. Therefore, it was the role of the interior designer to develop alternative solutions so that these activities do not stop and can be established more securely, taking into account precautionary measures to preserve the safety of pioneers and artists.
