Information experience is based on emotion and motivation psychological as well as activity theoretical models of the concept of user experience. Information experience is defined for static, dynamic as well as interactive information media. The Information Experience and Design Research Group at Stuttgart Media University explore experiential aspects of information media use. The goal is to develop scientifically based design processes and methods for positive and meaningful user experiences with information media. Based on these research activities the valence method was developed. It allows research on and formative evaluation of the experiential design aspects of information media. The valence method was used in a number of studies showing deep and detailed insights of the emotional impact and the motivational basis of design attribute being involved in user experiences.
