Although flipped classroom is a new pedagogical model, it has emerged frequently in recent years. In this model, low level skill 'knowledge acquisition' is allocated to the students. Such activities that require high-level skills as application and problem solving are carried out under the guidance of teacher. When the relevant literature reviewed, many studies examining the definition, advantages and disadvantages of this model, experimental studies and model applications have been found. In this context, particularly disadvantages of the model have been identified in the literature area and it addressed the means to overcome these limitations. Also, content analysis data that were compiled between the years 2010-2015 was carried out in the framework of flipped classroom models are also used in this study. This aspect of the research is like a guide that enables flipped classroom enhanced by mobile technologies which are necessary for learning in times of need, time and place independent. Through offered mobile learning-oriented information, learner's needs will be met. In this context, tools for eliminating the disadvantages of this model discussed in the relevant literature are selected in particular. Background: Domestic violence is a serious problem affecting the health and wellbeing of women globally. Interventions in health care settings have primarily focused on screening and referral, however, women often may not disclose abuse to health practitioners. The internet offers a confidential space in which women can assess the health of their relationships and make a plan for safety and wellbeing for themselves and their children. This randomised controlled trial is testing the effectiveness of a web-based healthy relationship tool and safety decision aid (I-DECIDE). Based broadly on the IRIS trial in the United States, it has been adapted for the Australian context where it is conducted entirely online and uses the Psychosocial Readiness Model as the basis for the intervention. Methods/design: In this two arm, pragmatic randomised controlled trial, women who have experienced abuse or fear of a partner in the previous 6 months will be computer randomised to receive either the I-DECIDE website or a comparator website (basic relationship and safety advice). The intervention includes self-directed reflection exercises on their relationship, danger level, priority setting, and results in an individualised, tailored action plan. Primary self-reported outcomes are: self-efficacy (General Self-Efficacy Scale) immediately after completion, 6 and 12 months post-baseline; and depressive symptoms (Centre for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, Revised, 6 and 12 months postbaseline). Secondary outcomes include mean number of helpful actions for safety and wellbeing, mean level of fear of partner and cost-effectiveness. Discussion: This fully-automated trial will evaluate a web-based self-information, self-reflection and self-management tool for domestic violence. We hypothesise that the improvement in self-efficacy and mental health will be mediated by increased perceived support and awareness encouraging positive change. If shown to be effective, I-DECIDE could be easily incorporated into the community sector and health care settings, providing an alternative to formal services for women not ready or able to acknowledge abuse and access specialised services. This article describes a project set up to explore the potential of web-based tools for archaeological interpretation of LIDAR data by a non-expert audience. This is accomplished through the creation of bespoke web-based tools designed to facilitate crowdsourced transcription of archaeological features, and trialled through a case study using LIDAR data covering 100km swathe of the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire. A group of non-expert volunteers were tasked with transcribing archaeological features and provided feedback on both the effectiveness of the application and their user experience, in order to tease out potential barriers to public participation.

The purpose of this study was to explore the feasibility of using a Web-based tool to provide tailored symptom management strategies for persons living with HIV (PLWH) and to estimate the effect size of the tool for future studies. Testing the components of the Web-based system was done by incorporating a repeated-measures design measuring the outcomes of symptom frequency and intensity, use of symptom management strategies, and engagement with health care providers. We recruited 42 PLWH; participants were enrolled in the study for 12 weeks and were asked to use the system and complete the questionnaires every 2 weeks. Our results showed that participants who used the strategies were more likely to have a decrease in symptom frequency and intensity. Findings from this feasibility study provide preliminary evidence for the use of a Web-based HIV symptom management tool with self-management strategies for individuals living with HIV infection. Abstract: In order to identify, assess and operate risks in early stages, risk management practices are essential in innovative projects. Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) are still lacking empirical models, metrics and tools to manage project risk, which must be overcame. For this purpose, this paper briefly exhibits an application that can enable SME's to engage with risk management practices through an existing online platform - Spotrisk®. However, in this work is showed that it's important to control potential bias that can prevail in this or similar tool, whenever surveys are employed. So, throughout the gathering of a literature review, this paper aims to lift a framework intended to correct potential biases, caused by different risk attitudes among users, and draw conditions to render a concise model to assess project risks within SME's. In several countries around the world, the national government stimulates school-based curriculum decision-making. Schools and teachers are offered ample 'curricular space'. However, research shows that teachers need professional development in curriculum design and evaluation. In this study, the focus is on the usability of a tool to support teachers in carrying out curriculum evaluations. The research question is: To what degree is the available web-based EPSS which was developed initially for professional curriculum developers, also usable for teachers when planning and performing formative curriculum evaluation activities? This question was answered using a prototyping approach. The results are promising in that they show that the tool can be supportive for teachers in planning and conducting formative curriculum evaluation. However, the usability of the tool in its current form needs to be improved by focussing on specific subject matter, by limiting the use of complex (scientific) information and diminishing the number of (sub-)stages. Abstract: Background: Doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) students and faculty request additions to their curricula to prepare them in the basic mental health and substance use disorder (MH/SUD) care needs in generalist care settings. Objectives: Demonstrate effectiveness of resources gathered to facilitate safe and effective care to patients in generalist settings through a web-based Toolbox for Primary Behavioral Care Study Design: Faculty-designed/posted web-based resources for treatment and referral of common MH/SUD disorders. Results: A web site was organized and made accessible to all DNP students and faculty. ACME-DB is a web-based e-learning platform designed for giving support to the teaching and learning of main database course topics. The platform is composed of a set of correction modules capable of automatically correcting different types of database problems such as entity-relationship diagrams, relational database schemas, normalization, relational algebra and SQL. The capabilities of ACME-DB provide us with a powerful tool for skills training and automatic assessment of main database course topics. In this paper we present web-based tools that visualize standard concepts (convolution of analog and discrete signals, pole-zero diagram, Fourier series, sampling and reconstruction) in a classical Signal and Systems course. The tools can be used by a teacher as a teaching aid to explain basic concepts in Signal and Systems course. They can also be used by students as a learning aid. Background: There is an increasing number of interactive web-based advance care planning (ACP) support tools, which are web-based aids in any format encouraging reflection, communication, and processing of publicly available information, most of which cannot be found in the peer-reviewed literature.Objective: This study aims to conduct a systematic review of web-based ACP support tools to describe the characteristics, readability, and quality of content and investigate whether and how they are evaluated.Methods: We systematically searched the web-based gray literature databases OpenGrey, ClinicalTrials.gov, ProQuest, British Library, Grey Literature in the Netherlands, and Health Services Research Projects in Progress, as well as Google and app stores, and consulted experts using the following eligibility criteria: web-based, designed for the general population, accessible to everyone, interactive (encouraging reflection, communication, and processing of information), and in English or Dutch. The quality of content was evaluated using the Quality Evaluation Scoring Tool (score 0-28-a higher score indicates better quality). To synthesize the characteristics of the ACP tools, readability and quality of content, and whether and how they were evaluated, we used 4 data extraction tables.Results: A total of 30 tools met the eligibility criteria, including 15 (50%) websites, 10 (33%) web-based portals, 3 (10%) apps, and 2 (7%) with a combination of formats. Of the 30 tools, 24 (80%) mentioned a clear aim, including 7 (23%) that supported reflection or communication, 8 (27%) that supported people in making decisions, 7 (23%) that provided support to document decisions, and 2 (7%) that aimed to achieve all these aims. Of the 30 tools, 7 (23%) provided information on the development, all of which were developed in collaboration with health care professionals, and 3 (10%) with end users. Quality scores ranged between 11 and 28, with most of the lower-scoring tools not referring to information sources.Conclusions: A variety of ACP support tools are available on the web, varying in the quality of content. On-line educators and institutes are still trying to figure out how best to use web-based technology as a way of delivering courses and how web-based tools and learning activities, such as discussion boards, e-mail, group projects, virtual chats, and interaction with classmates and instructor, influence students' learning. The study proposed an effective model for designing instructional materials and measuring quality of web-based courses in the Industrial Management Master online program. The research data were gathered from 137 students in eleven online courses between 2003-2006. An online questionnaire was utilized in measuring students' satisfaction of instructor's performance, instructional material design, technology and activities used, and supported services. Key components that on-line course developers and educators can use in their pedagogical process of Internet-based environments to promote student satisfaction and learning effectiveness are instructional and design strategies, instructor's performance, use of web-based technology and activities, student participation, and supported services. This article describes the activity performed in the three-year project “Integration of Multimedia Services on Heterogeneous Satellite Networks,” funded by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and carried out by the Italian National Consortium for Telecommunications (CNIT). The description of the activity allows highlighting the problems, findings, and solutions in utilizing TCP/IP-based services and applications, such as audio-video transmission and Web browsing, via satellite channels. The article presents an experimental approach to provide QoS guarantees and to improve the performance of TCP over a satellite network based on the TCP/IP suite. The aim is to obtain a proper environment for data, voice, and video transmission oriented to a distance learning service that uses both audio-video applications and Web-based tools. The experimental scenario is made up of three remote LANs. Two of them are connected through a geostationary orbit satellite link in the Ka-band (20-30 GHz). The other LAN, located in a site where no satellite station is available, is connected through an ISDN link at 512 kb/s. Both subjective metrics such as mean opinion score and objective metrics such as throughput and overall transmission time have been used to evaluate the performance of the system and to get proper configurations able to guarantee a high QoS perceived by the users. The integrated services approach along with the resource reservation protocol were chosen to reserve the network resources at the IP level. A modified version of TCP has been proposed and utilized to reduce the download time during Web browsing and f.t.p. sessions. Recent advances in CRISPR-Cas9 engineering and single-cell assays have enabled the simultaneous measurement of single-cell transcriptomic and phylogenetic profiles. However, there are few computational tools enabling users to integrate and derive insight from a joint analysis of these two modalities. Here, we describe "PhyloVision": an open-source software for interactively exploring data from both modalities and for identifying and interpreting heritable gene modules whose concerted expression are associated with phylogenetic relationships. PhyloVision provides a feature-rich, interactive, and shareable web-based report for investigating these modules while also supporting several other data and meta-data exploration capabilities. We demonstrate the utility of PhyloVision using a published dataset of metastatic lung adenocarcinoma cells, whose phylogeny was resolved using a CRISPR-Cas9-based lineage-tracing system. Over the past decades, different software programs have been developed for the Computer-Assisted Structure Elucidation (CASE) with NMR data using with various approaches. WebCocon is one of them that has been continuously improved over the past 20 years. Here, we present the inclusion of 4 J CH correlations ( 4 J -HMBC) in the HMBC interpretation of Cocon and NOE data in WebCocon. The 4 J -HMBC data is used during the structure generation process, while the NOE data is used in post-processing of the results. The marine natural product oxocyclostylidol was selected to demonstrate WebCocon's enhanced HMBC data processing capabilities. A systematic study of the 4 J CH correlations of oxocyclostylidol was performed. The application of NOEs in CASE is demonstrated using the NOE correlations of the diterpene pyrone asperginol A known from the literature. Introduction: Web-based tools allowed the provision of psychological counseling and therapy at-distance during the COVID-19 lockdown. Nevertheless, psychologists' attitudes towards the adoption of these tools and its impact in their professional practices need to be further explored. Objectives: The objective was to study the use of web-based tools on psychological practices before and during COVID-19 lockdown, trying to identify changes on psychologists' professional practices related to the pandemic, as well as to explore factors that could have affected such changes. Methods: One-hundred and eight psychologists filled-in an online survey, developed for the purposes of this study, during mandatory lockdown. The study was disseminated by mailing list, social networks, and by the Portuguese Psychologists Association. Results: The results have shown that psychologists kept providing their services during lockdown thanks to the adoption of webbased tools. Although psychologists have recognized that additional precautions were needed for at-distance practice in comparison to in-person interventions, the experience of using IC technologies in clinical practice was described as positive, ensuring clients' adherence with positive results. Additionally, despite psychological services were maintained on a larger scale by psychologists with more years of experience, professionals with average experience stated more favorable attitudes towards the use of web-based tools in counseling and therapy. Conclusions: Although the implementation of ICT based practice was enforced by current circumstances, the experience that psychologists gathered and shared during the lockdown can guide future professional practice, improving and fostering the replication of best practices at distance. Web-based personalized predictive tools in orthopedic surgery are becoming more widely available. Despite rising numbers of these tools, many orthopedic surgeons may not know what tools are available, how these tools were developed, and how they can be utilized. The aim of this scoping review is to compile and synthesize the profile of existing web-based orthopedic tools. We conducted two separate PubMed searches—one a broad search and the second a more targeted one involving high impact journals—with the aim of comprehensively identifying all existing tools. These articles were then screened for functional tool URLs, methods regarding the tool's creation, and general inputs and outputs required for the tool to function. We identified 57 articles, which yielded 31 unique web-based tools. These tools involved various orthopedic conditions (e.g., fractures, osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal neoplasias); interventions (e.g., fracture fixation, total joint arthroplasty); outcomes (e.g., mortality, clinical outcomes). This scoping review highlights the availability and utility of a vast array of web-based personalized predictive tools for orthopedic surgeons. Increased awareness and access to these tools may allow for better decision support, surgical planning, post-operative expectation management, and improved shared decision-making. Background: In the dentistry field, the analysis of dental plaque is vital because it is the main etiological factor in the 2 most prevalent oral diseases: caries and periodontitis. In most of the papers published in the dental literature, the quantification of dental plaque is carried out using traditional, non-automated, and time-consuming indices. Therefore, the development of an automated plaque quantification tool would be of great value to clinicians and researchers.Objective: This study aimed to develop a web-based tool called DenTiUS and various clinical indices to evaluate dental plaque levels using image analysis techniques.Methods: The tool was executed as a web-based application to facilitate its use by researchers. Expert users are free to define experiments, including images from either a single patient (to observe an individual plaque growth pattern) or several patients (to perform a group characterization) at a particular moment or over time. A novel approach for detecting visible plaque has been developed as well as a new concept known as nonvisible plaque. This new term implies the classification of the remaining dental area into 3 subregions according to the risk of accumulating plaque in the near future. New metrics have also been created to describe visible and nonvisible plaque levels.Results: The system generates results tables of the quantitative analysis with absolute averages obtained in each image (indices about visible plaque) and relative measurements (indices about visible and nonvisible plaque) relating to the reference moment. The clinical indices that can be calculated are the following: plaque index of an area per intensity (API index, a value between 0 and 100), area growth index (growth rate of plaque per unit of time in hours; percentage area/hour), and area time index (the time in days needed to achieve a plaque area of 100% concerning the initial area at the same moment). Images and graphics can be obtained for a moment from a patient in addition to a full report presenting all the processing data. Dentistry experts evaluated the DenTiUS Plaque software through a usability test, with the best-scoring questions those related to the workflow efficiency, value of the online help, attractiveness of the user interface, and overall satisfaction.Conclusions: The DenTiUS Plaque software allows automatic, reliable, and repeatable quantification of dental plaque levels, providing information about area, intensity, and growth pattern. Dentistry experts recognized that this software is suitable for quantification of dental plaque levels. Consequently, its application in the analysis of plaque evolution patterns associated with different oral conditions, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of various oral hygiene measures, can represent an improvement in the clinical setting and the methodological quality of research studies. Computational approaches have been proven to be complementary tools of interest in identifying potential candidates for drug repurposing. However, although the methods developed so far offer interesting opportunities and could contribute to solving issues faced by the pharmaceutical sector, they also come with their constraints. Indeed, specific challenges ranging from data access, standardization and integration to the implementation of reliable and coherent validation methods must be addressed to allow systematic use at a larger scale. In this mini-review, we cover computational tools recently developed for addressing some of these challenges. This includes specific databases providing accessibility to a large set of curated data with standardized annotations, web-based tools integrating flexible user interfaces to perform fast computational repurposing experiments and standardized datasets specifically annotated and balanced for validating new computational drug repurposing methods. Interestingly, these new databases combined with the increasing number of information about the outcomes of drug repurposing studies can be used to perform a meta-analysis to identify key properties associated with successful drug repurposing cases. In recent years, thousands of microRNAs (miRNA) have been found in numerous species. The huge data resulting from miRNA researches are ordered in several levels including miRNA discovery, the sequence of mature and precursor miRNAs, role in diseases, pathway interaction, target validation, and prediction, etc. To prepare a simple approach to this information, numerous databases for miRNA records have been established. The selection of the correct database can be laborious and prolonged, especially for scientists who do not have experience in this field. To facilitate access to these resources, we have classified the available databases into seven categories and have described each one. The different categories of miRNA databanks contain miRNA sequence, target validation, target prediction, expression, function, role in pathways and networks, and their roles in diseases. Moreover, examples are included to describe the prototype databases for the most common applications. Hence, this review introduces available miRNA databases and presents a convenient overview of these databases that will enable researchers with different backgrounds to find suitable miRNA-related bioinformatics web tools and relevant microRNA information rapidly., (Copyright © 2020 Elsevier Ltd. SwissDrugDesign is an important initiative led by the Molecular Modeling Group of the SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. This project provides a collection of freely available online tools for computer-aided drug design. Some of these web-based methods, i.e., SwissSimilarity and SwissTargetPrediction, were especially developed to perform virtual screening, while others such as SwissADME, SwissDock, SwissParam and SwissBioisostere can find applications in related activities. The present review aims at providing a short description of these methods together with examples of their application in virtual screening, where SwissDrugDesign tools successfully supported the discovery of bioactive small molecules.
