Protocol for a systematic review that aims to identify the underlying dimensions of PTSD symptomatology by conducting a meta-analysis on CFA studies that used DSM-5-based PTSD measures and to recognize the influence factors of the PTSD structure.

Objective: The objective of this paper is to explore the underlying dimensions of quality of work life (QWL) in the Nigerian hotel industry. Research Design & Methods: With a defined population of 3.110, a sample size of 355 was determined using probability technique, which formed the participants of the study. Employing the Delphi technique, eight experts and four cycles of inputs led to a consensual number of sixty-three indicators of QWL which formed the final inventory or variables of the quality of work life dimensions used for exploratory factor analysis. Exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation was employed. Kaiser criterion, examination of the scree plot and Horn parallel analysis (Horn, 1965) guided factor extraction. Findings: Preliminary assessment conducted confirmed the appropriateness of the dataset for factor analysis. Furthermore, based on the extraction criteria, five factors were extracted which explained 59.37% of the total variance in QWL in the Nigerian hotel industry, labelled as remuneration and benefits, job security and career satisfaction, training and opportunities for personal autonomy, home-work balance and safe and healthy environment. Implications & Recommendations: The Nigerian hotel industry should focus on the QWL factors which the study reports as most considered by employees. The study has also identified the dimensions of QWL in the Nigerian hotel industry. Contribution & Value Added: This study identifies the latent variables that show QWL in the Nigerian hotel industry, which are labelled as remuneration and benefits, job security and career satisfaction, training and personal autonomy, home-life balance and safe and healthy environment. The managerial implication is that owners and operators of hotels in Nigeria can benefit by understanding what quality of work life entails and which indicators show the concept.

Automated vehicles (AVs) have garnered increasing attention since they have the potential to dramatically reshape our lives in the near future. At the same time, people are concerned about various risks associated with the new technologies. Thus, people’s attitudes toward AVs pose a major challenge to the wider adoption of them. Previous studies examined the effect of benefit/risk perception on people’s acceptance of AVs, but they did not address the multidimensionality of benefit/risk perception. We conducted a survey (n = 840) to reveal the underlying dimensions of how people construe the benefits and risks of conditionally/fully automated vehicles. Our results showed that there were two dimensions underlying benefit perception (i.e., the perception that AVs would increase convenience and reduce harm) and three dimensions underlying risk perception (i.e., the perception of risk to physical safety and comfort, cybersecurity, and ease of use). The perception that AVs would reduce harm positively impacted people’s intention to use both fully automated vehicles and conditionally automated vehicles. The perception that AVs would increase convenience and the perception that AVs would pose a risk to ease of use had a positive and negative effect, respectively, on intention to use fully automated vehicles. This study makes theoretical contributions by questioning the assumption that benefit/risk perception is a one-dimensional factor that impacts people’s acceptance of AVs. This study also has practical implications as it suggests an effective method for automobile manufacturers and policymakers to communicate with the public regarding the new technologies and diffuse them safely.

For cancer survivors, social functioning greatly influences other quality of life dimensions. While there is potential for differences in social functioning to vary as a function of geographic residence, few studies examine the social functioning of rural cancer survivors specifically. This study aims to help fill this gap.This was an embedded mixed-methods study where all participants completed a questionnaire, and some were purposively selected to complete an interview to gather more information about social functioning (ie, social roles, activities, network, support, and constraint). Participants (n = 93; 63% rural) were recruited through a state cancer registry and cancer care facility. Participants were predominately White, non-Hispanic (92.47%), roughly half female (54.84%), and on average, diagnosed in the past two years (SD = 1.68), and 61.45 (SD = 10.87) years old.Few differences in the social functioning of rural and nonrural participants were found on questionnaires, though rural participants reported larger networks and more overall support. Across groups, common themes in the interview data were the experience of both social support (eg, instrumental support) and social constraint (eg, others minimizing participants' problems or sharing their own negative experiences).This was the first cancer survivorship study to thoroughly examine social functioning by geographic residence. Rural cancer survivors described some unique strengths, but major group differences were not apparent. All participants highlighted situations when others, even with good intentions, were unhelpful to them. Future interventions to improve social functioning could work to dispel the belief that cancer survivors should handle their cancer on their own.

Dissertação de mestrado em Gestão e Negócios, Ciência Cidadã (CS) é um termo relativamente antigo que está a ser reavivado à medida que cientistas, governantes e sociedade civil reconhecem o seu potencial para a democratização da Ciência e para responder a desafios globais. Ao envolver o cidadão comum em projectos científicos, não como objecto de investigação, mas sim como parceiros ao longo de todo o processo, a CS tem benefícios comprovados a nível educacional, científico, social e político. O comprometimento – frequentemente entendido como um conceito multidimensional de natureza motivacional e voluntária – é obrigatório nos processos de co criação de valor, incluindo iniciativas de CS. Contudo, a investigação do comprometimento de cidadãos com projectos de CS é maioritariamente focada em aspectos mensuráveis da participação e em efeitos educacionais, ignorando dimensões de natureza cognitiva, afectiva, comportamental e social que suportam a participação, assim como o valor percepcionado pelos participantes, como beneficiários. Este projecto tem como propósito contribuir para a compreensão do comprometimento de cidadãos, orientando a definição de estratégias de colaboração entre investigadores e o cidadão comum. Considerando o desígnio co-criativo da CS, recorreu-se à perspectiva da lógica do domínio do serviço, que dá um contributo valioso devido ao seu conhecimento acerca de redes sociais e sistemas de serviço. Considerando a natureza interactiva e contextual do comprometimento, realizou-se um estudo do caso de uma plataforma online de monitorização de biodiversidade (biodiversity4all.org) com a aplicação de uma abordagem de pesquisa qualitativa de natureza interpretativista. Através da triangulação entre entrevistas semiestruturadas e materiais digitais, emergiu uma imagem extensa e detalhada do comprometimento de cidadãos com esta plataforma. Os resultados demonstram (i) como é que as motivações intrínsecas e extrínsecas promovem o início e a continuidade do comprometimento; (ii) de que forma o comprometimento é manifestado por cada participante; e (iii) o valor que é co-criado por esta interacção, de acordo com a percepção dos participantes. Os potenciais benefícios da CS dependem da interacção de cidadãos com cientistas de forma a que aprendam com eles, mas também para que possam contribuir para a investigação científica com a sua perspectiva singular dos desafios sociais mais urgentes. A compreensão das dimensões inerentes ao comprometimento de cidadãos oferece sugestões para o desenho de projectos que sejam valorizados pelos participantes e nos quais estes se sintam motivados a participar, aumentando as hipóteses de sucesso e implementação destas iniciativas., Citizen Science (CS) is a relatively old term gaining a renewed strength, as policymakers, scientists and civil society acknowledge its potential for democratisation of Science and for tackling sustainability challenges. By involving laypeople in scientific projects not as subjects or aids but as active and equal partners throughout the research process, CS yields proven educational, scientific, social and political benefits. Engagement – commonly perceived as a multidimensional construct of voluntary and motivational nature – is mandatory in all co-creational processes, including CS initiatives. However, research on this topic is mainly focused on measurable elements of participation behaviour and learning outcomes, neglecting integral cognitive, affective, behavioural and social dimensions of engagement; as well as how participants, as beneficiaries, perceive the value of these projects. This work aims at advancing the understanding of citizen engagement, thus informing project designs and strategies to promote fruitful collaboration between researchers and lay citizens. Given the co-creational purpose of CS, it seems natural to analyse it through the lens of service-dominant logic (S-D logic), which provides a valuable contribution to the advancement of CS practices due to the insights on social networks and service systems. Considering the interactional and contextual nature of engagement, a case study was conducted on an online biodiversity monitoring platform (biodiversity4all.org) through a mainly interpretivist research approach. Through semi-structured interviews and digital materials triangulation, a comprehensive image of citizens’ engagement with this platform was drawn. Results show (i) how intrinsic and extrinsic motivations combine to promote the beginning and continuity of engagement; (ii) in which ways engagement is manifested by each participant; and (iii) the value that is being co-created by this interaction, as determined and perceived by participants. CS potential benefits rely on the meaningful interaction of citizens with scientists so as to learn from them, but also to improve scientific research with their first-hand perspective on the most pressing societal issues. The understanding of the underlying dimensions of citizen engagement provides cues to properly design projects that participants value and feel motivated to participate, potentially increasing the chance of success and adoption.

Quality of Life Core Questionnaire of the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30) is one of the most used quality of life questionnaires in cancer studies. It provides scores for five functional scales, nine symptom scales, and two single items which assess overall health status and quality of life. However, high correlations among QLQ-C30 items suggest a reduced dimensionality for the scale. To assess the dimensionality of the EORTC QLQ-C30 using item response theory (IRT) in a training sample and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in a test sample. We analyzed responses to QLQ-C30 from 1,107 patients with advanced lung cancer who were included in five clinical trials of immunotherapy. We used non-parametric and parametric IRT models (Mokken, and Samejima's graded response) in a random training set (n = 332) for initial assessment of dimensions and item characteristics of the QLQ-C30. Finally, we used CFA in the test set (n = 775) to confirm the measurement domains. Mokken model showed that QLQ-C30 fits a unidimensional scale, whereas Samejima model showed that most QLQ-C30 items present adequate difficulty and discrimination. All items showed adequate scalability indexes with an overall scalability of 0.47 (medium scale). The QLQ-C30-reduced dimensionality was confirmed by CFA (comparative fit index = 0.98, root mean square error of approximation = 0.055) with all items presenting factorial loadings > 0.40. For nearly 75 years, scholars of American public opinion have sought to measure whites’ attitudes toward blacks: social scientists have invented and revised ways to measure what we could refer to as “racial prejudice.” With each revision, scholars who believe they have captured new forms of racial animus are met with opposition from those who believe that old-fashioned anti-black affect is a thing of the past. We directly answer these claims by collecting a surfeit of attitudinal measures to simultaneously estimate the relationship between cognitive beliefs about the racial status quo and emotional reactions to racism. First, we uncover that two higher-order dimensions undergird whites’ racial attitudes. Second, we validate a four-item version of our new battery using the 2016 Cooperative Congressional Election Study.

The concept of mass customization is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers of assembled products. As a result, manufacturers face a high variety of products, small batch sizes and frequent changeovers. To cope with these challenges, an appropriate level of flexibility of the assembly system is required. A methodology for quantifying the flexibility level of assembly workstations could help to evaluate (and improve) this flexibility level at all times. That flexibility model could even be integrated into the standard workstation design process. Despite the general consensus among researchers that manufacturing flexibility is a multi-dimensional concept, there is still no consensus on its different dimensions. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) shows that many similarities can be found in the multitude of flexibility dimensions. Through a series of interactive company workshops, we achieved to reduce them to a shortlist of 9 flexibility dimensions applicable to an assembly workstation. In addition, a first step was taken to construct a causal model of these flexibility dimensions and their determining factors, the so called drivers, through the Interpretive Structural Modelling (ISM) approach. In the next phase, a driver scoring mechanism will be initiated to achieve an overall assembly workstation flexibility assessment based on the scoring of drivers depending on the workstation design.
