Objective During total hip arthroplasty (THA), both pelvic and femur positions affect leg length (LL) and offset (OS) measurements because LL and OS calipers depend on the fixed reference points on the pelvis and femur, respectively. However, LL and OS measurement errors because of pelvic positional changes have not been described. This study aimed to clarify the effects of pelvic positional changes on LL and OS measurements in relation to the pelvic reference using a THA simulator. Methods We developed an experimental THA simulator using Sawbones models of the hemipelvis and femur that facilitated modification of the obliquity, tilt, and rotation of the pelvis. Using an LL and OS caliper, LL and OS measurement errors due to pelvic positional changes were determined with the femoral position fixed. Measurements were performed from two pelvic reference positions: the iliac tubercle (P1) and the top of the iliac crest intersecting the line of the femoral long axis (P2). Results Concerning pelvic obliquity, the total error of LL was 25.0 mm in P1 and 26.5 mm in P2, while the total error of OS was 13.0 mm in P1 and 10.9 mm in P2. For pelvic tilt, the total error of LL was 9.0 mm in P1 and 3.8 mm in P2, while the total error of OS was 0.5 mm in P1 and 1.0 mm in P2. Regarding pelvic rotation, the total error of LL was 13.8 mm in P1 and 3.2 mm in P2, while the total error of OS was 3.8 mm in P1 and 4.0 mm in P2. Deviation from the traction path affects the operation of composting machines that work in an offset manner and reduces their performance. In this article, a compost mixing machine behind a tractor, which deviates from the movement path during operation, was investigated and evaluated. The equations governing the performance of the extraction machine and the effective parameters in the optimal performance of the device were determined and their effect on the deviation of the device was investigated. The results of this research show that by changing the parameters of the machine without increasing its weight in order to reduce the deviation from the movement path, it is possible to significantly increase the balance of the machine and work efficiency and reduce the deviation from the movement path. In this investigation, it was found that by changing several parameters such as the longitudinal and transverse distance of the composting machine, the friction coefficient, etc., the deviation angle of the machine decreases from 17 degrees to less than 4 degrees. Based on the theory presented in this article, the device was designed, built and used in Gulab Zahra Kerman Company, and its performance is satisfactory, and the practical review of each of the parameters presented in this article will be presented in other articles.

In recent years, super-long and super-large diameter pipe piles have been gradually applied to the foundation in the Yellow River flood area. However, its bearing mechanism is not clear, especially the unclear bearing characteristics of the pile under the eccentric state, which limits its application and development. In this regard, this paper uses the method of combining field test and numerical simulation to analyze the bearing characteristics of super-long and super-large diameter pipe piles under different pile lengths, different pile diameters, different diameter-thickness ratios, and different offsets. Combined with the specific deviation form of the pipe pile, the calculation formula of the vertical ultimate bearing capacity of the super-long and super-long diameter pipe pile in the Yellow River flooding area under the influence of the construction effect is modified. The results show that when the length of the pipe pile changes, the vertical bearing capacity changes the most, and the vertical ultimate bearing capacity of the pipe pile increases linearly with the increase of the length of the pipe pile. When the wall thickness of the pipe pile increases, the vertical bearing capacity increases approximately linearly, but the reduction of the pile displacement decreases exponentially. The greater the deflection of the pipe pile, the smaller the vertical ultimate bearing capacity. When the deflection of the pipe pile is greater than 0.35°, the vertical ultimate bearing capacity decreases rapidly with the increase of the deflection. On the basis of the traditional formula, considering the deviation form of the pipe pile, the reduction coefficient of the bearing capacity correction formula of the super-long and super-large diameter pipe pile is proposed, and the correction formula is compared with the field example. It is proved that the formula can accurately calculate the bearing capacity of the super-long and super-large diameter pipe pile. The research results of this paper are of great significance to the application and promotion of super-long and super-large diameter pipe piles in the Yellow River flood area and the evaluation of vertical ultimate bearing capacity. At the same time, the research results of this paper can also provide a reference for the study of bearing characteristics of super-long and super-large diameter pipe piles in other foundations.

Today's high-speed technologies are integrating many millions of transistors in a chip by the processes of the Deep-Submicron (DSM) fabrication. The trend leads to an increase in die size and a decrease in the horizontal dimensions of devices and interconnections. Power consumption is the dominating effect of the interconnections in DSM, is due to the continuous transition of data. Dynamic Sector (DS) transition reduction algorithm is a memory-based bus encoding coding technique, its working on the principle of divide the entire memory into sectors with help of sector heads. It saves dynamic power consumption up to 30 percent with the compact architecture of the design.

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact of large target offset distances on the dose distribution and gamma passing rate (GPR) in single-isocenter multiple-target stereotactic radiosurgery (SIMT SRS) using volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) with a flattening filter-free (FFF) beam from a linear accelerator. Methods: Two targets with a diameter of 1 cm were offset by "±2, ±4, and ±6 cm from the isocenter in a verification phantom for head SRS (20 Gy/fr). The VMAT plans were created using collimator angles that ensured the two targets did not share a leaf pair from the multi-leaf collimator. To evaluate the low-dose spread intermediate dose spill (R50%), GPRs were measured with a criterion of 3%/2 mm using an electronic portal imaging device and evaluated using monitor unit (MU), modulation complexity score for VMAT (MCSv), and leaf travel (LT) parameters. Results: For offsets of 2, 4, and 6 cm, the respective parameters were: R50%, 4.75 ± 0.36, 5.13 ± 0.36, and 5.11 ± 0.33; GPR, 95.01%, 93.82%, and 90.67%; MU, 5893 ± 186, 5825 ± 286, and 5810 ± 396; MCSv, 0.24, 0.16, and 0.13; and LT, 189.21 ± 36.04, 327.69 ± 67.01, and 430.39 ± 114.34 mm. There was a spread in the low-dose region from offsets of =4 cm and the GPR negatively correlated with LT (r = -0.762). There was minimal correlation between GPR and MU or MCSv. Conclusions: In SIMT SRS VMAT plans with an FFF beam from a linear accelerator, target offsets of <4 cm from the isocenter can minimize the volume of the low-dose region receiving 10 Gy or more. Time-sensitive networks enable the high-quality mixed transmission of various types of business flows. However, the Time-Aware Scheduler mechanism fails to address the issue of interference in data flows with the same priority. This paper conducts an in-depth analysis of the store-and-forward mechanism in switches, combining it with the characteristics of critical GOOSE and SV-type flows in substations. By introducing methods such as setting offsets and allocating redundant time slots to the data flow of the transmitter in the TAS scheduling mechanism, all factors that cause conflicting interference to the data flow transmission in the TSN network are solved, and the uncertain queuing delay is eliminated. The proposed scheduling algorithm, compared to the TAS scheduling algorithm of the FIFO rule, achieves a maximum reduction of 34.35% in the transmission delay of critical business flows, while the jitter is controlled below 10 μs. Compared to the strict priority algorithm, it reduces the transmission delay by 40.26% while maintaining the standard deviation of delay within 1.59%. The maximum transmission delay and the minimum transmission delay of the data flow scheduled in this paper are between the theoretical boundary values without queuing delay, which satisfies the deterministic transmission of critical business flows under high load conditions, and provides support for future substation integrated networking and high load applications. The purpose of this paper was to introduce 6 basic concepts, calculation methods, a clinical investigation example and its SAS implementation related to the Poisson distribution regression model. The basic concepts included the Poisson distribution, Poisson distribution regression models, offsets, standardized mortality ratio （SMR）, deviation information criteria and the highest posterior density intervals. The calculation method involved the classical estimation method and the Bayesian estimation method of the Poisson distribution regression parameters. The clinical investigation example involved the data on observed and expected cases of lip cancer in 56 Scottish counties from 1975 to 1980. This article presented the whole process of using SAS software to deal with the count data in the example, including constructing five Poisson distribution regression models based on the bglimm procedure and showing the degree of agreement between the predicted SMR and the observed SMR. The output results were explained, and based on the evaluation statistics of the model fitting effect, the multiple constructed Poisson distribution regression models were compared, and finally the optimal Poisson distribution regression model suitable for the data in the paper was obtained. Objective: This study evaluated the effect of offset on the precision of three-dimensional (3D)-printed splints, proposing to optimize the splint design to compensate for systematic errors. Materials and methods: 14 resin model sets were scanned and offset as a whole by given distances (0.05, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, 0.35, and 0.40 mm). Intermediate splints (ISs) and final splints (FSs) were generated from the non-offset and offset models and grouped correspondingly, named as splint type-offset value, IS-0.05, for instance. Dentitions occluded with the splint were scanned. Translational and rotational deviations of the lower dentition relative to the upper dentition were 3D measured. Results: Deviations of ISs and FSs were more evident in the vertical and pitch dimensions, and were mostly acceptable in other dimensions. ISs with offset ≥ 0.05 mm showed vertical deviations significantly below 1 mm (P < 0.05) while ISs with 0.10- to 0.30-mm offsets had pitch rotations significantly lower than 1° (P < 0.05). The Pitch of IS-0.35 was significantly larger than ISs with 0.15- to 0.30-mm offsets (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, FSs fit better as the offset increased and FSs with offsets ≥ 0.15 mm all had deviations significantly lower than 1 mm (for translation) or 1° (for rotation) (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Offset affects the precision of 3D-printed splints. Moderate offset values of 0.10 to 0.30 mm are recommendable for ISs. Offset values ≥ 0.15 mm are recommended for FSs in cases with stable final occlusion. Aims: Restoration of normal hip biomechanics in arthroplasty surgery is important in order to achieve good muscle function and joint stability. Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we examined the postoperative radiographs of 131 femoral revision arthroplasty procedures using a monoblock, fully hydroxyapatite (HA)-coated titanium stem. Femoral offset, modified-global offset and leg length were measured of the operated and contralateral hips. Results: Femoral offset was restored to ±10 mm in 108 cases (82%), modified-global offset was restored ±10 mm in 93 cases (71%) and leg length was restored to ±10 mm in 102 cases (81%). There were 4 dislocations with a mean follow-up period of 38 months. Conclusions: Restoration of hip biomechanics is achievable with a monoblock stem and thus is a viable option in revision hip arthroplasty. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Most statistical models of microclimate focus on the difference or ‘offset’ between standardized air temperatures (macroclimate) and those of a specific habitat such as forest understorey, grassland or under a log. However, these offsets can fluctuate from positive to negative over a single day such that common practice consists in aggregating data into daily mean, minimum and maximum before modelling monthly offsets for each summary statistic. Here, we propose a more parsimonious and flexible approach relying on just two parameters: the slope and equilibrium. The slope captures the linear relationship between microclimate and macroclimate, while the equilibrium is the point at which microclimate equals macroclimate. Although applicable to other habitats, we demonstrate the relevance of our method by focusing on forest understoreys. We installed temperature sensors at 1‐m height inside forest stands and in nearby open grasslands equipped with standardized weather stations, across 13 sites in France spanning a wide climatic gradient. From a year of hourly temperatures and for each sensor, we established relationships between microclimate and macroclimate temperatures using two linear mixed‐effects models, during the leaf‐on (May–November) and leaf‐off period (December–April). We extracted the monthly equilibrium and slope for each sensor, and used another set of linear mixed‐effects models to investigate their main determinants. The slope was chiefly determined by stand structure variables interacting with the leaf‐on/leaf‐off period: stand type (conifer vs broadleaf); shade‐casting ability; stand age; dominant height; stem density; and cover of the upper and lower shrub layer. In contrast, forest structure had no explanatory power on the equilibrium. We found the equilibrium to be positively related to mean macroclimate temperature, interacting with the open/forest habitat. The method introduced here overcomes several shortcomings of modelling microclimate offsets. By demonstrating that the slope and equilibrium vary in predictable ways, we have established a general linkage between microclimate and macroclimate temperatures that can be applied to any location or time if we know the mean macroclimate temperature (equilibrium) and buffering or amplifying capacity of the habitat (slope). We also warn about methodological biases due to the reference used for macroclimate.

Introduction: A modular head–neck adapter system may help surgeons restore the proximal hip biomechanics in revision hip arthroplasty. However, the clinical and radiographic 5-year outcomes of the system are still scarcely reported. The aim of this study is the assessment of (1) complications and survival rates, (2) clinical and (3) radiological outcomes of the modular head–neck adapter system with a ceramic head in revision hip arthroplasty at 5 years. Methods: 32 revision hip arthroplasties using a modular head–neck adapter system and a ceramic head were retrospectively recorded. Preoperative demographic and implant features were collected. Clinical and radiographic outcomes, failures and reasons for re-revisions were recorded at the last follow-up. Results: A mean follow-up of 59.8 ± 26 months was achieved. The survival rate was 90.6% at 5 years. Post-operative complications occurred in nine cases (28.1%): two dislocations (6.2%), one aseptic cup loosening (3.1%) requiring re-revision, one (3.1%) persistent pelvic pseudotumor requiring embolization. No mechanical failures of the adapter or ceramic head occurred. The mean post-operative HHS score was 84.4 points. Thirteen cases (40.6%) showed optimal radiographic cup osseointegration, and 17 hips (53.1%) showed valid stem osseointegration. The mean post-operative femoral offset was 48.84 mm, larger than the contralateral side (p = 0.02). The post-operative lateralization of the hip joint was 38.09 mm, close to the contralateral side (p = 0.4). Conclusions: In revisions, the modular head–neck adapter system with ceramic head provided good clinical outcomes and acceptable radiographic reconstruction of hip biomechanics, with a survival rate of 87.9% at 5 years. In this study, the motion characteristics of bubbles in a vertical rectangular glass groove were investigated using image-processing techniques. A new metric (bubble offset) to evaluate the level of solution disturbance was proposed. The motion characteristics, such as the trajectory, bubble diameter, rise velocity, and coalescence, during the bubble rise were studied using different NaCl concentrations and airflow rates. The functional relationship of the bubble diameter and velocity with height was obtained by least-squares fitting (correlation coefficient R2 ≥ 95%), and fits the power-law distribution. The results showed that the bubble motion characteristics were positively correlated with the airflow rate and negatively correlated with the NaCl concentration in the solution. The solution disturbance was closely related to the bubble offset, and the size of the bubble offset can be used to characterize the degree of the solution disturbance. The disturbance of the solution affects the bubble trajectory, rising velocity and coalescence. The bubble offset changed periodically with height, and its functional relationship was obtained. The accuracy of the functional relationship was verified using experimental data. The study of bubble motion characteristics is crucial for understanding phenomena such as heat and mass transfer and multiphase cooling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work proposes a new modeling framework based on combining graded band-gap (GBG) engineering and metaheuristic optimization to improve the Cd-Free ZnMgO/CIGS solar cell performances. Analytical and numerical calculations are carried out to assess the influence of band-gap profiles of both buffer and active layers on the electronic and optical properties of the studied solar cell. This investigation shows a great improvement of solar cell efficiency by increasing the optoelectronic figures of merit through tuning and optimizing the band-gap profiles and the conduction band offset at the ZnMgO/CIGS interface. Moreover, metaheuristic-based optimization models are developed to optimize the GBG profiles and enhance the optical and electrical performances of the solar cell. In this context, we recorded very satisfactory results, where the optimized design with GBG paradigm offers a high efficiency of 31.88% compared to 23.35% provided by the conventional CdS/CIGS solar cell. Therefore, this study provides a new strategy in enhancing the efficiency of thin-film solar cells by exploiting the graded band-gap engineering combined with metaheuristic optimization approach. This paper presents a comparative EMC susceptibility study of various integrated bandgap voltage reference cores. Conventional well-known bandgap references based on Kuijk, Brokaw and Tsividis concepts with reduced count of bipolar junction transistors in the core were analyzed. On top of the EMC susceptibility comparison, basic parameters like temperature drift, sensitivity to an operational amplifier input offset and line regulation are also discussed. The influence of a collector leakage current compensation at high temperatures is investigated as well.

Entropy is a fundamental concept in the field of information theory. During measurement, conventional entropy measures are susceptible to length and amplitude changes in time series. A new entropy metric, neural network entropy (NNetEn), has been developed to overcome these limitations. NNetEn entropy is computed using a modified LogNNet neural network classification model. The algorithm contains a reservoir matrix of N = 19,625 elements that must be filled with the given data. A substantial number of practical time series have fewer elements than 19,625. The contribution of this paper is threefold. Firstly, this work investigates different methods of filling the reservoir with time series (signal) elements. The reservoir filling method determines the accuracy of the entropy estimation by convolution of the study time series and LogNNet test data. The present study proposes 6 methods for filling the reservoir for time series of any length 5 ≤ N ≤ 19,625. Two of them (Method 3 and Method 6) employ the novel approach of stretching the time series to create intermediate elements that complement it, but do not change its dynamics. The most reliable methods for short-time series are Method 3 and Method 5. The second part of the study examines the influence of noise and constant bias on entropy values. In addition to external noise, the hyperparameter (bias) used in entropy calculation also plays a critical role. Our study examines three different time series data types (chaotic, periodic, and binary) with different dynamic properties, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), and offsets. The NNetEn entropy calculation errors are less than 10% when SNR is greater than 30 dB, and entropy decreases with an increase in the bias component. The third part of the article analyzes real-time biosignal EEG data collected from emotion recognition experiments. The NNetEn measures show robustness under low-amplitude noise using various filters. Thus, NNetEn measures entropy effectively when applied to real-world environments with ambient noise, white noise, and 1/f noise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recent research has focused on the use of Uncrewed Aerial Spray Systems (UASS) for their potential to fill the gap between crewed aircraft and ground application, with UASS being able to be used over less accessible areas than ground equipment, being more appropriate to treat smaller, dispersed targets, and typically available at reduced cost and complexity when compared to crewed aircraft. However, there is limited literature focusing on the proper setup and use of these systems. The objective of this study was to design and conduct a series of large-scale, conceptually linked studies to provide data that is used to guide system optimization and the development of predictive models. An uncrewed system coupled with three nozzle types covering three droplet size classifications was used to conduct swath characterization and drift trials designed to establish effective swath widths, deposition variability, swath displacement, and drift. System and nozzle type, along with nozzle position and wind direction, significantly impacted the spray deposition patterns within and downwind of the effective swath. The spray distribution in a swath is highly variable, to the point that using the typical metric of uniformity alone to define swath can no longer apply. In addition, the swath was rarely found to be directly beneath the flightline, and swath offsetting can be significant and larger than the assumed swath width. An iterative solution has been developed that uses a combination of effective dose and uniformity to define swath width. The offsetting of the swath due to interactions with ambient air has also been defined using the Center of Deposition. The aim is to be able to distinguish between in-swath deposition and drift. The approach to defining swath width and the displacement of the swath is presented. The goal is to develop a real-time onboard navigation system that can reset the flight line in response to wind-driven swath displacement. Automated color measurement systems have become significant components of offset lithographic printing presses for better process control and reduced job waste. Some European press manufacturers are known to offer automated color measurement equipment that is confined to polarized density readings, which is uncommon in US. Introducing polarized densitometry into an environment where unpolarized densitometry is utilized can be problematic. Print professionals are on the lookout for a solution that is evidenced by a recent feature in a post from the IDEAlliance G7 Professionals forum seeking for a methodology to convert polarized to unpolarized readings. The present study applies the Bland–Altman method together with other statistical analyses to determine if a conversion between polarized and unpolarized densitometry can be established within a limited set of parameters. Three spectrodensitometers were used to record densitometric readings of wet and dry process inks on coated and uncoated drawdown proofs. The results showed that coated papers had significantly less variation between instruments compared to uncoated papers. Wet inks had more minor variations compared to dry inks. Furthermore, pure difference values and a Mann–Whitney U test indicated differences between unpolarized and polarized densitometric readings in all cases. Finally, t‐tests performed on the resulting difference data for both unpolarized versus polarized and unpolarized versus predicted polarized that showed fixed bias by means of the computed p‐values. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate whether the position of the central retinal vascular trunk (CRVT), as a surrogate for lamina cribrosa (LC) offset, is associated with the dominant hemisphere of visual field defect in primary angle‐closure glaucoma (PACG) eyes. Methods: Central retinal vascular trunk deviation was measured from Bruch's membrane opening (BMO) centre, which was delineated by OCT imaging, using the horizontal midline as a reference. The dominant hemisphere developing visual field defect was defined as three connected abnormal points (having a p‐value < 5% probability of being normal) appearing in only one hemisphere or each point of the hemisphere having a statistically worse value compared with its mirrored point in the opposite hemisphere on pattern deviation plots. Results: One hundred five (80%) of 132 eyes with PACG had dominant hemisphere of visual field defect initially: 70 eyes (67%) in the superior and 35 eyes (33%) in the inferior hemisphere. The CRVT was located superiorly in the dominant superior visual field defect group (p < 0.001). A logistic regression analysis revealed that superior deviation of the CRVT was the only factor associated with dominant superior visual field defect (p < 0.001). Externally oblique border (EOB) presence was associated with larger BMO (p = 0.005) and angular deviation of CRVT (p = 0.002). Conclusions: Central retinal vascular trunk deviation was associated with the dominant hemisphere of visual field defect in PACG eyes. This finding implies that the LC position relative to the BMO centre (LC/BMO offset) may incur structural vulnerability in the optic nerve head of PACG eyes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Genetic factors and muscle strength both contribute to the risk of major depressive disorder (MDD), but whether high muscle strength can offset the risk of MDD with different genetic risk is unknown. This study aims to examine whether a higher muscle strength is associated with lower risk of MDD regardless of genetic risk among middle-aged and older adults. Methods This cohort study obtained data from the UK Biobank, which includes 345,621 individuals aged 40–69 years (mean (standard deviation): 56.7 (7.99) years) without baseline MDD. Polygenic risk score for MDD was categorised as low, intermediate or high. The mean of the right- and left-hand grip strength values was used in the analysis and was divided into three categories. Results 9,753 individuals developed MDD within 2,752,461 person-years of follow-up. The multivariable adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) (95% confidence intervals (CIs)) of MDD across increased grip strength categories were 1.00, 0.72 (0.68–0.75) and 0.56 (0.53–0.59) (P for trend <0.0001). The HRs (95% CIs) of incident MDD across the genetic risk categories were 1.00, 1.11 (1.05–1.17) and 1.20 (1.13–1.28) (P for trend <0.0001); 4.07% of individuals with a high genetic risk and low grip strength developed MDD, and 1.72% of individuals with a low genetic risk and high grip strength developed MDD, with an HR (95% CI) of 0.44 (0.39–0.50). Conclusions Both muscle strength and genetic risk were significantly associated with incident MDD. A higher muscle strength was associated with a lower MDD risk among individuals with a high genetic risk. Most statistical models of microclimate focus on the difference or 'offset' between standardized air temperatures (macroclimate) and those of a specific habitat such as forest understorey, grassland or under a log. However, these offsets can fluctuate from positive to negative over a single day such that common practice consists in aggregating data into daily mean, minimum and maximum before modelling monthly offsets for each summary statistic. Here, we propose a more parsimonious and flexible approach relying on just two parameters: the slope and equilibrium. The slope captures the linear relationship between microclimate and macroclimate, while the equilibrium is the point at which microclimate equals macroclimate. Although applicable to other habitats, we demonstrate the relevance of our method by focusing on forest understoreys.We installed temperature sensors at 1‐m height inside forest stands and in nearby open grasslands equipped with standardized weather stations, across 13 sites in France spanning a wide climatic gradient. From a year of hourly temperatures and for each sensor, we established relationships between microclimate and macroclimate temperatures using two linear mixed‐effects models, during the leaf‐on (May–November) and leaf‐off period (December–April). We extracted the monthly equilibrium and slope for each sensor, and used another set of linear mixed‐effects models to investigate their main determinants.The slope was chiefly determined by stand structure variables interacting with the leaf‐on/leaf‐off period: stand type (conifer vs broadleaf); shade‐casting ability; stand age; dominant height; stem density; and cover of the upper and lower shrub layer. In contrast, forest structure had no explanatory power on the equilibrium. We found the equilibrium to be positively related to mean macroclimate temperature, interacting with the open/forest habitat.The method introduced here overcomes several shortcomings of modelling microclimate offsets. By demonstrating that the slope and equilibrium vary in predictable ways, we have established a general linkage between microclimate and macroclimate temperatures that can be applied to any location or time if we know the mean macroclimate temperature (equilibrium) and buffering or amplifying capacity of the habitat (slope). The purposes of this paper are to better understand the design and impact of left turn lane offset and provide state transportation agencies recommendations on best practices and alternative design options to address left turn sight line obstruction issues. Research studies and existing guidelines on left turn lane offset were reviewed and summarized to offer insights in driver sight distance and behavior, intersection safety and operations, as well as design elements related to left turn lane offset. Studies showed that at both unsignalized intersections and signalized intersections with permitted left turns, obstructed sight line could cause higher possibilities of collisions between left turning vehicles and oncoming vehicles from the opposing direction. Existing evaluations of left turn lane offset, with data from multiple states in the United States, reported that positive left turn lane offsets were beneficial in terms of safety and operations. Most agency guidelines provided very limited discussions about left turn lane offset. This review demonstrated that positive left turn lane offsets are beneficial to intersection safety and operations. Based on the review of research and guidelines, recommendations were provided for transportation agencies for left turn lane offset implementation. A discussion on new left turn design concepts was also included to point out directions for future research and practice.

Abstract Background Stem choice in total hip arthroplasty (THA) for hip dysplasia is still controversial. The aims of the study were to evaluate (1) which stem design provided the highest percentage of adequate reconstructions in THA for dysplasia and (2) any correlation between the reconstructions provided by the stems and the native femoral morphology. Materials and methods 150 CT scans including 200 adult dysplastic hips were randomly selected. Using the 3D CT-based software Hip-Op for surgical planning, the native hip anatomy was studied. Then, a single wedge tapered stem, an anatomical stem and a conical tapered stem were simulated in every hip. An adequate reconstruction of hip biomechanics was obtained when combined anteversion, offset restoration, coronal and sagittal tilt, canal filling and leg lengthening were inside the normal ranges. The Martine series by Gilbert Delahaye and Marcel Marlier strikingly lacks critical attention, when compared to the immensity of its commercial success. Industrially produced in the context of a massification of young children’s literature, these serial picturebooks testify to the technical modernity of Casterman, to whom they offer a considerable windfall. The Casterman archives, deposited in the State Archives in Tournai, thus offer a fascinating insight into the making of the serial picturebook. The publishing house’s sales statistics and Marcel Marlier’s author file allow us to follow the progressive and paradoxical affirmation of authorship within the framework of a mass collection. As an illustrator of mass-produced picturebooks, Marlier was a commissioned worker for Casterman, whose fortune he nevertheless made. Paid on a flat-rate basis, Marlier gradually switched to copyright; the considerable success of the visual universe he created with Martine ended up, through a contamination effect, in the rest of the “Farandole” collection. The editorial enonciation was gradually replaced by the unexpected rise of a visual authorship.

The tectonic evolution of the Karakoram fault in the Pamir Plateau is controversial because the timing and kinematics of several branches of the fault system are unclear. Here we conduct field observations on the East Pamir fault, the North Muskol shear zone, and the Xindi-Waqia fault in the eastern Pamir, and obtain zircon U-Pb and biotite 40Ar/39Ar ages from these ductile shear zones. All three faults/shear zones are hosted by granitic mylonites. The East Pamir fault is a northwest-striking, normal-dextral shear zone that cuts the Rushan-Pshart suture. Zircon U-Pb dating yields a mean age of 201.5 ± 0.5 Ma for the mylonites in this shear zone. Biotite 40Ar/39Ar analysis yields two weighted mean plateau ages, 10.65 ± 0.13 Ma, and 11.04 ± 0.15 Ma. An undeformed granitic vein that cuts the ductile shear zone gives a mean zircon U-Pb age of 9.6 ± 0.3 Ma. We interpret that the granitic protolith crystallized at 201.5 Ma, and the East Pamir fault underwent rapid cooling and exhumation at ca. 11 Ma and ceased by 9.6 Ma. The North Muskol shear zone is an east-striking extensional shear zone along the northern boundary of the Shatput-Muztaghata dome. Two mylonitic samples show mean 206Pb/238U ages of 17.9 ± 0.2 Ma and 17.6 ± 0.3 Ma, which are interpreted as the timing of crystallization of the granitic protolith. The Xindi-Waqia fault is a northwest-striking ductile shear zone and brittle fault that bounds the Muztaghata dome. We obtain two zircon U-Pb ages (231.8 ± 1.1 Ma, 235.9 ± 0.9 Ma) and two biotite 40Ar/39Ar plateau ages (between 6.60 ± 0.10 Ma and 6.87 ± 0.10 Ma) from the mylonites in this fault, and interpret that the granitic rocks were emplaced in the Late Triassic and exhumed in the late Miocene. The newly obtained U-Pb ages, combined with the previously published data, indicate that Rushan-Pshart suture in Pamir marks the closure of an ocean basin within the Palaeo-Tethys Ocean, and cannot be correlated with the Bangong-Nujiang suture in Tibet. We establish a systematic correlation in which the two Palaeo-Tethyan sutures (Tanymas-Jinshajiang and Rushan-Pshart) in Pamir represent the western extensions of the Jinshajiang and Longmu Co-Shuanghu sutures in the Tibetan Plateau, respectively, and the Central Pamir is the western extension of the Tianshuihai-North Qiangtang terrane. This indicates that the dextral slip along the Karakoram fault system in east-central Pamir is 140 ± 10 km, and the mean slip rate since the onset of the Karakoram fault at ca. 18 Ma is 7.8 ± 0.5 mm/yr. Furthermore, our analyses suggest that the North Muskol shear zone was active at ca. 18 Ma before the arrival of the Karakoram fault system then. The East Pamir fault must have been active at ca. 11 Ma, but ceased by ca. 9.6 Ma, and the slip along the Karakoram fault system migrated northeastward and primarily accommodated by the Tashkurgan fault soon after 9.6 Ma. The Xindi-Waqia fault is the southern extension of the ductile shear zone of the Kongur Shan extensional system, as they are highly similar in geometry, kinematics, and timing. Overall, as the Karakoram fault system propagated northward in Pamir during the Cenozoic, crustal deformation migrated northeastward among the Karakoram fault branches from Ladakh to the Kashgar-Yecheng transfer system, and a complex evolution path can be portrayed. MicroRNAs are small RNAs that regulate gene expression through complementary base pairing with their target mRNAs. A substantial understanding of microRNA target recognition and repression mechanisms has been reached using diverse empirical and bioinformatic approaches, primarily in vitro biochemical or cell culture perturbation settings. We sought to determine if rules of microRNA target efficacy could be inferred from extensive gene expression data of human tissues. A transcriptome-wide assessment of all the microRNA–mRNA canonical interactions' efficacy was performed using a normalized Spearman correlation (Z-score) between the abundance of the transcripts in the PRAD-TCGA dataset tissues (RNA-seq mRNAs and small RNA-seq for microRNAs, 546 samples). Using the Z-score of correlation as a surrogate marker of microRNA target efficacy, we confirmed hallmarks of microRNAs, such as repression of their targets, the hierarchy of preference for gene regions (3′UTR > CDS > 5′UTR), and seed length (6 mer < 7 mer < 8 mer), as well as the contribution of the 3′-supplementary pairing at nucleotides 13–16 of the microRNA. Interactions mediated by 6 mer + supplementary showed similar inferred repression as 7 mer sites, suggesting that the 6 mer + supplementary sites may be relevant in vivo. However, aggregated 7 mer-A1 seeds appear more repressive than 7 mer-m8 seeds, while similar when pairing possibilities at the 3′-supplementary sites. We then examined the 3′-supplementary pairing using 39 microRNAs with Z-score-inferred repressive 3′-supplementary interactions. The approach was sensitive to the offset of the bridge between seed and 3′-supplementary pairing sites, and the pattern of offset-associated repression found supports previous findings. The 39 microRNAs with effective repressive 3′supplementary sites show low GC content at positions 13–16. Our study suggests that the transcriptome-wide analysis of microRNA–mRNA correlations may uncover hints of microRNA targeting determinants. Finally, we provide a bioinformatic tool to identify microRNA–mRNA candidate interactions based on the sequence complementarity of the seed and 3′-supplementary regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Conflicting reports exist about the effect of offset variation on functional outcomes following total hip arthroplasty. Reproducing native hip offset is thought to optimize function by restoring biomechanics and appropriately tensioning the hip abductor muscles. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of failing to restore global hip offset in comparison to the native contralateral hip. A retrospective analysis of a prospective patient cohort was performed on patients undergoing an elective primary total hip arthroplasty. A total of 414 patients who had a minimum of 12 months of follow-up were included. Postoperative plain radiographs were analyzed for offset and compared to the contralateral native hip. Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) and Veterans RAND 12 (VR-12) scores were assessed preoperatively and at 12 months postoperatively. Regression analyses indicated that a reduction in offset of >20 mm resulted in worse WOMAC pain (P =.005) and motion (P =.015) scores compared to those with maintained offset. WOMAC function (P =.063), global (P =.025), and VR-12 scores were not affected (physical P =.656; mental P =.815). Reduction in offset up to 20 mm and increased offset were not significantly associated with patient-reported outcome measures (P -values ranged from.102 to.995). This study demonstrated an association between reduction in offset by >20 mm and worse WOMAC pain and motion scores following total hip arthroplasty. Restoring the native center of rotation (COR) in total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) has been shown to improve postsurgical function, subjective outcomes, and implant longevity. The primary purpose of this study was to compare postoperative radiographic restoration of the humeral COR between short-stem and stemless humeral implants by evaluating the mean COR shift between the 2 techniques. Secondary outcomes evaluated were comparisons of COR shift outliers, humeral head implant thickness and diameter, direction of COR shift, and neck-shaft angle (NSA). This study was a multicenter retrospective comparative study using a consecutive series of primary anatomic TSA patients who received either a short-stem or stemless humeral implant. Radiographically, COR and NSA were measured by 2 fellowship-trained surgeons using the best-fit circle technique on immediate postoperative Grashey radiographs. A total of 229 patients formed the final cohort for analysis that included 89 short stems and 140 stemless components. The mean COR shift for short stems was 2.7 mm (±1.4 mm) compared with 2.1 mm (±0.9 mm) for stemless implants (P <.001). The percentage of short-stem implant patients with a >2 mm COR difference from native was 66.0% (n = 62) compared with 47.4% (n = 64) for stemless (P =.006). The percentage of short-stem patients with a >4 mm COR difference from native was 17.0% (n = 16) compared with 3.0% (n = 4) for stemless (P <.001). The mean humeral implant head thickness for short stems was 18.7 ± 2.2 mm compared with 17.2 ± 1.3 mm for stemless implants (P <.001). The mean humeral head diameter for short stems was 48.7 ± 4.4 mm compared with 45.5 ± 3.5 mm for stemless implants (P <.001). The NSA for the short-stem cohort was 136.7° (±3.6°) compared with 133.5° (±6.0°) for stemless (P <.001). Stemless prostheses placed during TSA achieved improved restoration of humeral head COR and were less likely to have significant COR outliers compared with short-stem implants. Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA) exhibits high rates of success and low complication rates. rTSA has undergone numerous design adaptations over recent years, and lateralization of implant components provides theoretical and biomechanical benefits in stability and range of motion (ROM) as well as decreased rates of notching. However, the magnitude of implant lateralization and its effect on these outcomes is less well understood. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how increasing glenohumeral offset affects outcomes after rTSA, specifically in a lateralized humerus + medialized glenoid implant model. Primary rTSA using a lateralized humeral + medialized glenoid implant model performed at a single academic institution between 2012 and 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Patient-reported outcome (PRO) parameters and clinical outcomes including ROM were evaluated both pre- and postoperatively. Pre- and postoperative radiographs were analyzed for measurement of glenohumeral offset, defined as the acromial-tuberosity offset (ATO) distance on the anteroposterior radiograph. A total of 130 rTSAs were included in the analysis, with a mean follow-up of 35 mo. The mean postoperative absolute ATO was 16 mm, and the mean delta ATO (difference from pre- to postoperatively) was 4.6 mm further lateralized. Among all study patients, improvements in all ROM parameters and all PROs were observed from pre- to postoperative assessments. When assessing for the effects of lateralization on these outcomes, multivariate analysis failed to reveal a significant effect from the absolute postoperative ATO or the delta ATO on any outcome parameter. rTSA using a lateralized humeral + medialized glenoid implant model exhibits excellent clinical outcomes in ROM and PROs. However, the magnitude of lateralization as measured radiographically by the ATO did not significantly affect these outcomes; patients exhibited universally good outcomes irrespective of the degree of offset restoration. Background: Since femoral and horizontal offsets may be contributing factors to hip and pelvic balance, this study seeks to determine whether there is a correlation between pelvic obliquity (PO) after unilateral total hip arthroplasty (THA) and horizontal/vertical offset differences of the replaced and contralateral natural joints.Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed on adult patients who underwent unilateral THA between 2017 and 2020. An expert orthopaedic resident measured PO angles and offset parameters. "Delta medial offset" is considered medial offset of the replaced hip minus the medial offset of the contralateral side. "Absolute delta medial offset" is considered the absolute value of the "Delta medial offset."Results: Finally, 133 patients were included in the study with a mean (SD) age of 45.3 ± 14.8 years and 57.9% female. The PO values (median, IQR) changed from 3.2 (1.7-5.7) before THA to 3.0 (1.50-5.6) after THA, not significantly decreased (P = 0.31). The PO after THA is significantly correlated with PO before THA (correlation coefficient of 0.457, P < 0.001), the delta medial offset after THA (correlation coefficient of - 0.24, P = 0.006), and the absolute delta medial offset after THA (correlation coefficient of 0.284, P = 0.001). The amount of changes of delta medial offset, before and after surgery, was not significantly correlated to PO or PO changes after surgery.Conclusion: PO before the THA and medial offset discrepancy after THA are two important contributing factors for post-operative PO. Pipes and offsets are the sets obtained by displacing the points of their progenitor $ S $ (i.e., spine curve or base surface, respectively) a constant distance $ d $ along normal lines. We review existing results and elucidate the relationship between the smoothness of pipes/offsets and the reach $ R $ of the progenitor, a fundamental concept in Federer's celebrated paper where he introduced the family of sets with positive reach. Most CAD literature on pipes/offsets overlooks this concept despite its relevance, so we remedy this deficiency with this survey. The reach admits a geometric interpretation, as the minimal distance between $ S $ and its cut locus. For a closed $ S $, the condition $ d < R $ means a singularity-free pipe/offset, coinciding with the level set at a distance $ d $ from the progenitor. This condition also implies that pipes/offsets inherit the smoothness class $ C^k $, $ k\ge1 $, of a closed progenitor. These results hold in spaces of arbitrary dimension, for pipe hypersurfaces from spines or offsets to base hypersurfaces.

All patients received posterolateral approaches and a minimum follow-up of at least 2 years regularly. A case–control study was performed to analyze the risk factors of dislocation regarding patient demographics, coexisting diseases, surgical and morphologic features. Multivariable logistic regression analysis for independent risk factors affecting dislocation and dissociation was also performed.Results: The dislocation rate was 5.01%, and the mean time from HA to the first incident of dislocation was 38.75 days. Patient-related factors, including operation side, prosthesis type, and neuromuscular disease, did not differ significantly. Regarding the morphological factors, a significant difference was observed in center-edge (CE) angle, abduction angle, acetabular depth, depth/width ratio, rotation center (RC) to greater trochanter tip (GTT) vertical distance, RC to GTT vertical distance difference, RC to GTT horizontal distance, RC to GTT horizontal distance difference, offset difference, and offset discrepancy. Further, decreased CE angle, increased abduction angle, decreased RC to GTT vertical distance, decreased offset difference and increased offset discrepancy were determined to be independent risk factors of dislocation. The proportion of patients experiencing dissociation was 1.04%. All the implanted femoral heads were smaller than 43 mm, which was determined to be the risk factor of dissociation.Conclusion: Decreased CE angle, RC to GTT vertical distance, offset difference, and increased abduction angle, offset discrepancy were determined to be independent risk factors of HA dislocation. The cable expansion compensation device， better known as OFFSET， is required as an expansion joint on the bridge. At present， the technology has its limitations and thus cannot meet the demand of narrow spaces and expansion joints of different sizes. This paper proposes a design scheme modularizing and miniaturing the OFFSET which copes with big， medium and small expansion joint compensation in limited spaces using continuous arc alternation technology， equally divided equidirectional synchronized mechanism and angle mechanism. The research discovery is applied to two 220 kV bridge-along cable projects in Zhejiang， completing engineering practice including manufacturing， installation， operation and maintenance， and resolving the real engineering problems.

This product was developed for students of Graphic Production which is feasible to be applied in the learning process and has a complementary position, which means that it is designed and aimed at complementing the material to be conveyed in the learning process. The feasibility of this product has been tested by media experts, namely an Educational Technology lecturer and material expert, a productive subject teaching teacher with more than 10 years of experience in teaching and has found feasible criteria. The product has also been tested on students majoring in Graphic Production and the research has received a majority of positive responses. So it can be concluded that the animated video has the privilege of making it easier for students, increasing student attractiveness, and increasing student motivation in student learning activities hereby declared fit for use. Abstrak Video animasi mesin offset adalah sebuah produk berupa video pembelajaran yang memudahkan dan meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa. Research and Development (R&D) atau penelitian dan pengembangan merupakan metode penelitian yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan produk. Metode yang digunakan mengacu pada model Sadiman. Media pembelajaran yang dikembangkan memuat mata pelajaran Cetak Offset materi Transportasi Kertas pada Mesin Offset. Produk ini dikembangkan untuk siswa Produksi Grafika yang layak diterapkan didalam proses pembelajaran dan berposisi menjadi pelengkap, yang berarti dirancang dan ditujukan melengkapi materi yang akan disampaikan dalam proses pembelajaran. Kelayakan produk ini telah diuji oleh ahli media adalah seorang dosen Teknologi Pendidikan dan ahli materi seorang guru pengajar matapelajaran produktif berpengalaman mengajar lebih dari 10 tahun dan mendapati kriteria layak. Produk juga telah diujicobakan kepada siswa jurusan Produksi Grafika dan penelitian mendapatkan tanggapan mayoritas positif. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa video animasi memiliki keistimewaan yaitu memudahkan siswa, menambah kemenarikan siswa, serta menambah motivasi siswa dalam aktifitas belajar siswa dengan ini dinyatakan layak digunakan.
