Background A pilot rounding surgeon of the week (SOW) program was implemented in our institution on July 2013 to improve patient care through focused attending rounds. The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of the SOW. Methods We performed a descriptive retrospective study from a single, large-volume academic center. Data were collected from July to December 2013 (post-SOW) and compared to July to December 2012 (pre-SOW). Outcomes included patient safety (safety reports) and team productivity (billing data). We also evaluated nursing satisfaction through a 10-point Likert scale survey. Results The total number of patient safety complaints decreased after the SOW (37 pre-SOW versus 27 post-SOW). Work relative value units (wRVUs) increased by 8% while nonoperative billing increased by 15%. Twenty of the daytime nursing staff completed the survey and overall satisfaction with the SOW was 8.3. Twelve were employed prior to the SOW and, when analyzed independently, the proportion of employees satisfied with nursing to physician communication was higher after the SOW (55% pre-SOW vs. 83% post-SOW, p = 0.13) as was perception of parental satisfaction (33% vs. 75%, p = 0.04). Conclusions The SOW program appears to improve patient safety as evidenced by a decrease in patient safety events. Additionally, the SOW program led to higher ancillary staffing satisfaction and perceived parental satisfaction without decreasing revenue. Objective: To analyze the value of modified isolation in preventing the occurrence of incontinence associated dermatitis (IAD) in patients with incontinence, and to provide high value skin care intervention for the patients., Methods: Clinical data of 204 patients were collected for retrospective analysis. The patients were divided into a conventional group (conventional skin care protocol, n=102) and a modified group (modified isolation care protocol, n=102) according to the different treatment regimens. The differences in the incidence of IAD, time to IAD, required weekly care, cost of nursing supplies, perineal skin status and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups., Results: Compared with the conventional group, the modified group had a greatly lower incidence of IAD (42.16% vs. 2.94%), longer time to IAD occurrence (5.75±1.25 vs. 12.50±1.50), less required weekly care (43.05±8.41 vs. 13.54±2.57), lower cost of nursing supplies (330.16±98.44 vs. 115.53±32.58), and a better correlation between perineal skin status and nursing satisfaction (all P <0.05)., Conclusion: Modified isolation can greatly reduce the incidence of IAD in incontinent patients, improve their status of the perineal skin, increase patient satisfaction with care, and reduce the cost of required nursing supplies. Aims To examine how results and data from multiple Family Centred Nursing Index surveys help the development of family-centred nursing at organizational and ward levels. Design A critical analysis of survey data. Background The Family Centred Nursing Index provides a valid and reliable assessment of aspects of nursing, through a comprehensive survey of traditional indicators of practice development and a broader range of aspects of practice. Methods A survey with 113 questions, each to be answered on 7-point Likert scale conducted six times in the last 7 years. Surveys have been in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. All nurses employed by the organization can participate. Results These are reported as means across 19 constructs linked to five key domains and their significance is examined by year and (in the clinical settings) and compared against the organizational (whole population) averages. Ongoing survey and analysis of nurses' views of their work is providing a valuable source of developmental data. The results show unexpected associations between constructs e.g. - a high level of work stress does not correlate with a lower level of job satisfaction (and vice versa). A clear historical picture of many elements of developing family-centred care is emerging at both the organizational and individual-ward levels. Conclusion This study provides insights into aspects of organizational and wards working environment for nurses and how these aspects of nurses' work interact in unexpected ways. Patient assessment of satisfaction is very important in achieving high patient-retention rates in a highly competitive environment (Bendall-Lyon & Powers, 2004). This study's purpose was to analyze the perception of nursing satisfaction with first-time versus non-first-time medical-surgical patients. The study involved a patient satisfaction questionnaire sent to 2,265 discharged inpatients in a 537-bed teaching hospital in northeastern Ohio. Group means and standard deviations indicate no difference between first-time and non-first-time admits in nursing care satisfaction; therefore, it's difficult to conclude why patients' assessments were so similar. Background Nursing dissatisfaction is linked to high rates of nurses leaving the profession, poor morale, poor patient outcomes and increased financial expenditure. Understanding factors that contribute to job satisfaction could increase nurse retention. Evaluation A literature search from January 2004 to March 2009 was conducted using the keywords nursing, (dis)satisfaction, job (dis)satisfaction to identify factors contributing to satisfaction for nurses working in acute hospital settings. Key issues This review identified 44 factors in three clusters (intra-, inter- and extra-personal). Job satisfaction for nurses in acute hospitals can be influenced by a combination of any or all of these factors. Important factors included coping strategies, autonomy, co-worker interaction, direct patient care, organizational policies, resource adequacy and educational opportunities. Conclusions Research suggests that job satisfaction is a complex and multifactorial phenomenon. Collaboration between individual nurses, their managers and others is crucial to increase nursing satisfaction with their job. Implications for nursing management Recognition and regular reviewing by nurse managers of factors that contribute to job satisfaction for nurses working in acute care areas is pivotal to the retention of valued staff. Finding ways to improve patient throughput through efficient use of nursing time led one pediatric medical center to develop an Admission, Discharge, Transfer (ADT) Nursing Program that included specialized nurses devoted to nursing activities that normally disrupt continuity of care on patient units. It was found that the ADT nurses improved patient throughput. Additionally, a nursing-staff satisfaction survey found that 93% of nursing staff felt that the ADT program made a worthwhile contribution to decreasing the workload of nurses, and all nurses answering felt that the ADT program assisted in providing high-quality care and services. Abstract: As the need for neonatal intensive care units (NICU) continues to increase, a growing body of evidence on the developmentally appropriate healing environment for neonates suggests that changes are needed in NICU design. The private room NICU model is emerging as an alternative to large multi-bed wards; however, some have suggested that such a radical design change may be difficult to implement. This article presents the experience of one unit in the design and transition from a traditional setting to the private room model. Using change theory, this model was developed with staff input throughout the entire design and implementation process, resulting in a successful transition, as suggested by preliminary data on patient outcomes, family experiences, and nursing staff satisfaction. The article focuses on the study that investigates the relationship between the organizational support for telemedicine and nurse's job satisfaction in home health agencies (HHAs) in Pennsylvania. The study projects that HHAs that provide support for telemedicine will have higher levels of nurse job satisfaction than those that do not. The study concludes that technological implementation associated with ample organizational support can be a competitive strategy to retain nurses.

Background: Patients treated in Australian intensive care units (ICUs) have an overall mortality rate of 5.05%. This is due to the critical nature of their disease, the increasing proportion of patients with multiple comorbidities, and advanced age. This has made treating patients during the end of life an integral part of intensive care practice and requires a high quality of care. With the increased use of electronic clinical information systems, a standardised protocol encompassing end-of-life care may provide an efficient method for documentation, communication, and timely delivery of comfort care., Objective: The aim of the study was to determine if an electronic clinical information system-based end-of-life care protocol improved nurses' satisfaction with the practice of end-of-life care for patients in the ICU., Design: This is a prospective single-centre observational study., Setting: The study was carried out at a 20-bed cardiothoracic and general ICU between 2015 and 2017., Participants: The study participants were ICU nurses., Intervention: Electronic clinical information-based end-of-life care protocol was used in the study., Outcome: The primary outcome was nurse satisfaction obtained by a survey., Results: The number of respondents for the before survey and after survey was 58 (29%) and 64 (32%), respectively. There was a significant difference between the before survey and the after survey with regard to feeling comfortable in transitioning from curative treatment (median = 2 [interquartile range {IQR} = 2, 3] vs 3 [IQR = 2, 3], p = 0.03), feeling involved in the decision to move from curative treatment to end-of-life care (median = 2 [IQR = 2, 2] vs 2 [IQR 2, 3], p = 0.049), and feeling religious beliefs/rituals should be respected during the end-of-life process (median = 4 [IQR = 3, 4] vs. 4 [IQR = 4, 4], p = 0.02). There were some practices that had a low satisfaction rate on both the before survey and after survey. However, a high proportion of nurses were satisfied with many of the end-of-life care practices., Conclusion: The nurses were highly satisfied with many aspects of end-of-life care practices in this unit. Objective: This study aimed to explore the effect of pre-hospital early intervention combined with an in-hospital emergency model in the emergency care of patients with acute stroke., Methods: Eighty-six patients with acute stroke treated in our hospital between December 2018 and January 2020 were enrolled prospectively and were divided into two groups according to the random number table method, with 43 cases in each group. The control group received conventional emergency mode care, while the study group received pre-hospital early intervention combined with an in-hospital emergency model. The success rate of successful resuscitation (CPR), resuscitation endpoints, complication rates, nursing satisfaction and changes in limb motor function (Fugl-Meyer score) and activity of daily living (ADL score) before and at 3 months after intervention were compared between the two groups., Results: The total success rate of rescue and nursing satisfaction were higher in the study group (93.02%, 97.77%) than in the control group (74.42%, 79.07%), while the complication rate in the study group (4.65%) was lower than that in the control group (20.93%). Time to resuscitation, time to thrombolytic therapy, time from admission to completion of imaging, and the length of hospital stay were shorter in the study group than in the control group ( P <0.05). Objective: This study aimed to explore the impacts of comfort nursing on postoperative quality of life, negative emotions and nursing satisfaction of patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery., Methods: Eighty-four patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from September 2018 to November 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. Among them, 37 patients with routine nursing were assigned to the control group, while 47 patients receiving comfort nursing were assigned to the research group. The postoperative rehabilitation indexes, complication rate, pain degree at 12 h after surgery, postoperative quality of life, negative emotions and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups., Results: After nursing, compared with the control group, the research group experienced notably earlier first time of food intake, first defecation time, first time for ambulation, first anal exhaust time, and recovery time of gurgling sound, shorter length of stay, considerably lower incidence of postoperative complications and Visual Analogue Scale score at 12 h after surgery, and evidently higher scores of quality of life and nursing satisfaction. Moreover, Self-rating Depression Scale and Self-rating Anxiety Scale scores of the research group were significantly lower than those of the control group., Conclusion: For patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery, comfort nursing can relieve their negative emotions, improve their quality of life and nursing satisfaction, reduce postoperative pain, and thus promote postoperative rehabilitation. Objective: To investigate the role of comfort care on pain degree and nursing satisfaction in patients undergoing kidney stone surgery., Methods: Altogether 107 patients undergoing kidney stone surgery were obtained as the research participants and randomly grouped into the nursing group (NG, 55 cases) and the control group (CG, 52 cases). The operation and medication modes of patients in the NG and the CG were the same. Patients in the CG were given routine care, while those in the NG were given comfort care on the basis of the CG. After intervention, the pain, mood, sleep quality, complications and nursing satisfaction of the NG and the CG were compared., Results: The pain score, SAS and SDS scores of the NG were evidently lower than those of the CG, and the sleep quality was evidently better than that of the CG (P<0.05). Objective: This research was designed to explore the application evaluation of evidence-based nursing (EBN) in pain nursing of patients with advanced lung cancer (LC)., Methods: A total of 108 advanced LC patients admitted to our hospital were randomized into a control group and an observation group, each with 54 patients. Those in the control group were given conventional nursing measures and those in the observation group were treated by EBN measures based on the former. The scores of pain levels, sleep quality, and negative emotions (anxiety and depression), quality of life, and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were compared., Results: Compared with the control group, the sleep quality score, quality of life, and nursing satisfaction of patients in the observation group were higher. The scores of pain levels and negative emotions (anxiety and depression) were lower, with statistically marked differences (all P<0.05)., Conclusion: EBN has good clinical practicability in the pain of advanced LC, improving patients' sleep, quality of life after treatment, and nursing satisfaction. Patients and families desire compassionate care from healthcare providers. In today's healthcare environment, challenges exist for all providers, including nurses, with balancing the delivery of consistent, compassionate care and maintaining a professional quality of life (QOL) that incorporates overall wellness and a healthy work environment. A literature review indicated no available research related to compassion satisfaction and fatigue and work environment by RN type. The aims of this study were to quantify differences in compassion satisfaction (CS) and compassion fatigue (CF) scores, including burnout and secondary traumatic stress (STS), by four registered nurse (RN) employment-types and to study work environment factors. Our methods included a survey of a random sample (n = 208) of RNs by type. Study results indicated that significant differences existed by RN type for CF (burnout and STS) scores; nurse leaders had the most CF and other nurses the least. Significant differences also existed for some shared governance activities and workplace violence measures. Our discussion concludes that opportunities exist for evaluation of interventions for healthier work environments, particularly for nurse leaders, including supporting shared governance activities for all RN types, as well as zero-tolerance for workplace violence. Background: Organizational politics (OP) exists to varying degrees in all organizations. OP plays an important role in creating synergy between employees and the goals of the organization. Purpose: We aimed to investigate the relationship between positive perceptions toward OP and work-related outcomes in nurses, including stress level, burnout level, turnover intention, and job satisfaction. Methods: This descriptive, analytical study was conducted from April to June 2018 on nurses at Neyshabur University of Medical Sciences Hospitals in Neyshabur, northeastern Iran. The study included 280 nurses working in two teaching hospitals. Five standardized tools were used, including the Perception of Organizational Politics Scale, the Nursing Stress Scale, the Burnout Measure Scale, the Turnover Intention Inventory Scale, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Results: The results indicate that the participants did not hold positive perceptions toward OP. The mean Perception of Organizational Politics Scale score was 2.63 ± 0.55. Multiple linear regression analyses showed a significant and positive relationship between positive perception toward OP and job satisfaction and a negative relationship between positive perception toward OP and turnover intention, burnout, and job stress. Conclusions: Nurses who perceive the work environment to be political will experience greater levels of stress, turnover intention, and burnout and lower levels of job satisfaction. Politics is an issue that should be handled by all levels of management. Managers should use supportive, nonpolitical workplace strategies to improve the work-related outcomes of employees. Objective: To determine the application effect of nursing risk control based on the principle of seamless management in the department of gastrointestinal surgery., Methods: A total of 62 patients with gastrointestinal diseases admitted to the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery in our hospital for nursing risk management based on the principle of seamless management were enrolled into a research group, and another 58 patients admitted before the implementation of such management were enrolled into a control group. The two groups were compared in the incidence of complications, Chinese Perceived Stress Scale (CPSS) score, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) score, nursing satisfaction, and awareness rate of health knowledge, and the nursing quality scores and medical complaints and disputes were compared before and after the implementation of nursing risk control based on the principle of seamless management by 19 nurses in the department., Results: The pulmonary infection rate, incision infection rate, incidence of gastrointestinal reaction, and incidence of anastomotic leakage in the research group were all significantly lower than those in the control group (all P<0.05), and CPSS and SAS scores of the research group were also both significantly lower than those of the control group (both P<0.001). In addition, the research group showed significantly higher nursing satisfaction and awareness rate of health knowledge than the control group (both P<0.01), and there were notably less medical complaints and disputes after implementation of the principle of seamless management (P<0.01). Moreover, after implementation of the principle, nursing staff acquired significantly higher scores of professional skills (health education, professional knowledge, and practical operation; all P<0.001), and also contributed to significantly higher scores of nursing work (basic nursing, disinfection and isolation, ward management, intensive care, document writing, and nursing safety; all P<0.001)., Conclusion: Nursing risk control based on the principle of seamless management can improve the comprehensive quality of nursing staff in the department of gastrointestinal surgery and the overall quality of nursing, thus lowering the incidence of nursing risk, relieving patients' negative moods, and improving the nurse-patient relationship and satisfaction of both nurses and patients., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2021.)

Objective: To evaluate the application of painless nursing in cesarean delivery parturients due to the failure of natural childbirth via labor analgesia., Methods: A total of 124 parturients who were transferred to cesarean delivery due to the failure of natural childbirth via labor analgesia were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The control group received routine nursing, while the research group was given painless nursing in the operating room, which mainly included interventions in terms of the environment, labor process, and delivery procedure. The visual analog scale (VAS), gestation outcome, stress response, anxiety, sleep quality, and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups., Results: Compared with the control group, the sleep quality score was significantly lower in the research group (all P<0.001). Compared with before nursing, the anxiety and VAS scores of the two groups were significantly decreased after nursing (P<0.001). Additionally, the anxiety and VAS scores of the research group after nursing were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.001). There was no significant difference for the gestation outcome between the two groups (P>0.05). Compared with before nursing, the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) after nursing were significantly downregulated, while the level of superoxide dismutase (SOD) was significantly upregulated in both groups (all P<0.001). Compared with the control group, the levels of MDA and ROS were significantly lower, while SOD level was significantly higher in the research group after nursing (all P<0.001). Compared with the control group, the nursing satisfaction was significantly higher in the research group (P<0.05)., Conclusion: The painless nursing for cesarean delivery parturients in the operating room due to the failure of natural childbirth via labor analgesia can effectively improve the sleep quality and negative moods of the parturients, reduce the degree of pain and stress response in the process of delivery, and result in better satisfaction and compliance., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2021.)

Objective: To analyze the effect of continuous midwifery services on the delivery mode, labor progress, and primiparas' nursing satisfaction levels during natural deliveries., Methods: 340 primiparas admitted to our hospital from January 2017 to June 2020 were recruited as the study cohort and randomized into a continuous midwifery group and a traditional midwifery group, with 170 patients in each group. They underwent traditional midwifery nursing services and continuous midwifery services, respectively. The two groups' delivery modes, labor progress, analgesic methods, perinatal Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) scores, postpartum hemorrhage amounts, Apgar scores, and nursing satisfaction levels were compared., Results: The natural delivery rate in the continuous midwifery group was higher than it was in the traditional midwifery group (P<0.05). The maternal non-drug analgesia rate in the continuous midwifery group was higher than it was in the traditional midwifery group (P<0.05). The duration of the first stage in the continuous midwifery group was shorter than it was in the traditional midwifery group (P<0.05). The comparisons made during the second and third stages in the two groups showed no statistical differences (P>0.05). The SAS scores in the continuous midwifery group were significantly better than the SAS scores in the traditional midwifery group at the time of waiting for delivery and at one day after delivery (P<0.01). The postpartum hemorrhage amounts in the continuous midwifery group were lower than they were in the traditional midwifery group (P<0.01). The neonatal Apgar scores and maternal nursing satisfaction levels in the continuous midwifery group were better than they were in the traditional midwifery group (P<0.01)., Conclusion: Continuous delivery services for primiparas during natural delivery can significantly increase the natural delivery rate, reduce the use of analgesics, shorten the delivery times, alleviate the delivery-related anxiety levels in the primiparas, reduce postpartum hemorrhages, effectively improve the delivery outcomes, improve the quality of the newborns, and improve the primiparas' nursing satisfaction levels, so it is worthy of clinical promotion and application., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2021.)

Objective: The goal of the present study was to explore and analyze the effect of comfort care on liver function and nursing satisfaction of patients with liver cirrhosis., Method: A total of 122 patients with liver cirrhosis addmitted to our hospital from June 2018 to June 2020 were equally divided into a general care group (GC) and a comfort care group (CC) according to the principle of randomization. Routine care intervention was given in the GC group, and the CC group received both comfort care intervention and routine care intervention. The care effects regarding liver function and nursing satisfaction, etc. were analyzed and compared between the two groups., Results: After care, both SAS score and SDS score in the two groups decreased, and the CC group had better scores of SAS and SDS as compared to the GC group (P<0.05). After care, the ALT and AST levels of the two groups all decreased. In the GC group, the ALT and AST demonstrated significantly better levels than those in the GC group (P<0.01). After care, each aspect in the CC group had better scores as compared to that in the GC group (P<0.05). After care, in the CC group, all the physiology, psychology, society and other index scores were significantly better than those in the GC group (P<0.05). Patients in the CC group had higher treatment compliance scores in comparison to patients in the GC group [(89.86±6.45) vs (64.46±13.75), P<0.01]. Objective: To explore the application of a nursing crisis management system in the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic., Methods: A retrospective nursing method was implemented. A total of 280 cases of patients were diagnosed with coronavirus pneumonia in the isolation ward of our hospital. The 280 cases of newly diagnosed pneumonia were divided into two groups: the nursing crisis management system group (n=150, the nursing crisis management was given) and the non-nursing crisis management system (n=130, routine nursing management was given). The psychological status (profile of mood states (POMS) score) of nursing staff before and after the implementation of the nursing crisis management, the psychological status of patients after the implementation of nursing crisis management (POMS score), emotion, cognition, behavior severity, patients' satisfaction with nursing, treatment compliance (Morisky Medication Compliance Scale (MMAS) score) of patients, the rate of cure of patients and the infection rate of nursing staff were compared., Results: Compared with the non-nursing crisis management system group, the POMS scores of patients and nurses in the nursing crisis management system group decreased (all P<0.05). Compared with the non-nursing crisis management system group, the emotional, cognitive and behavioral scores of patients in the nursing crisis management system group were lower, while the MMAS score, satisfaction with nursing and cure rate were significantly increased (all P<0.05). The 142 nursing staff did not catch coronavirus., Conclusion: During the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak and the current normal epidemic prevention and control periods, our crisis management mode was introduced into nursing work. The construction of the nursing crisis management mode under the epidemic situation can improve the psychological state and improve the management efficiency of the patients and nurses. Objective: To investigate the influence of comprehensive high-quality nursing care on postoperative complications, degree of pain, and nursing satisfaction in gallstone patients during the perioperative period., Methods: A total of 77 gallstone patients admitted to our hospital were selected as the study subjects, and divided into a control group (n=38) and an experimental group (n=39) in accordance with the random number table method. During the perioperative period, the control group received conventional nursing, while the experimental group received comprehensive high-quality nursing and conventional nursing. The visual analogue scale (VAS) was adopted to score degree of pain in both groups at 6 h, 24 h, and 48 h after surgery. Nursing satisfaction questionnaires were used to evaluate the satisfaction of the two groups of patients. The changes of postoperative complications, pain degrees, and nursing satisfaction were observed in the two groups after nursing interventions during the perioperative period., Results: After comprehensive high-quality nursing intervention, the time to first flatus, time to first defecation, time to first off-bed activity and hospital stay in the experimental group were significantly shorter than those in the control group after surgery ( P < 0.05). The number of postoperative complications in the experimental group was remarkably lower than that in the control group ( P < 0.05). After intervention, degree of pain scores in the experimental group were lower than those of the control group ( P < 0.05). Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of personalized health education care in the nursing of patients with acute leukemia., Methods: A total of 108 patients with leukemia who were admitted to our hospital were randomly selected as research subjects. A random number table was used to allocate the patients into the observation group and the control group, with 54 patients in each group. The control group had routine health education care and the observation group received personalized health education care in addition to treatment given to the control group. The knowledge of leukemia, bad moods, adverse reaction and nursing satisfaction were compared between the two groups., Results: The observation group had better knowledge of leukemia and nursing satisfaction than the control group, and the incidence of bad moods (anxiety, depression) and adverse reactions were lower than that in the control group (all P<0.05)., Conclusion: The application of personalized health education in the nursing of acute leukemia patients was significant, which improved the knowledge of acute leukemia, reduced the incidence of bad moods and adverse reactions, and improved nursing satisfaction., Competing Interests: None., (AJTR Copyright © 2021.)

Background: Perioperative negative emotion of surgical patients has a greater impact on surgical efficacy and prognosis. The study aimed to analyze the effect of psychological intervention on perioperative anxiety and depression of patients with severe blepharoptosis undergoing autologous fascia lata frontal muscle suspension, and provide a reference for improving and optimizing patient care plans., Methods: Ninety-two patients with severe blepharoptosis who underwent autologous fascia lata frontal muscle suspension in our hospital from February 2018 to January 2020 were selected as the research subjects. Patients were numbered according to the order of operation, and were divided into a control group (46 cases) and an observation group (46 cases) using a numerical random table method. Patients in both groups received routine nursing intervention during the perioperative period, and patients in the observation group also received psychological intervention during this period. The two groups of patients were evaluated using the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAM-D). Numerical rating scale (NRS) results for surgical site pain were evaluated and compared between the groups. The perioperative compliance rate and nursing satisfaction rate of the two groups of patients were investigated and compared. Intraoperative and postoperative complications were collected, sorted, and compared between the two groups of patients., Results: (I) The HAM-A and HAM-D scores of the observation group before and after surgery were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). (II) The NRS scores of patients in the observation group were markedly lower than those in the control group at 6 h and 24 h postoperatively (P<0.05). (III) The intra- and post-operative complication rate of the observation group was lower than that of the control group (P<0.05). (IV) The compliance rate and the total satisfaction rate of patients with the perioperative care in the observation group was considerably higher compared to that of patients in the control group (P<0.05)., Conclusions: Our results showed that psychological intervention can effectively alleviate the negative emotions in patients with severe blepharoptosis who underwent autologous fascia lata frontal muscle suspension, improve their compliance with medical care, reduce their pain, and increase their satisfaction rate. Therefore, psychological intervention has high clinical value.

Aim: To identify the predictors of nurses' work stressors who care for older people (i.e., over age 65 years) in Jordan. Background: Nurses sometimes experience stress which could occur as results of caring for older people, for example, with multiple physical and psychological needs. This stress could affect the job satisfaction and reduce the quality of care provided to older people. Thus, identifying sources of stress and predictors that cause stress for nurses is required to enhance quality of care for older people. Design: A cross‐sectional design. Methods: Cluster random sampling was used to select study settings (i.e., 3 public hospitals, 3 private hospitals and 17 healthcare centres) in Amman, Jordan. A convenience sampling method was used to select 485 nurses. The Quality‐Work‐Competence questionnaire and Nurses' Working Life Questionnaire were used. Multiple linear regressions were used to identify predictors of job stress for nurses providing care for older people. The data were collected between June 2016 and January 2017. Results: Job satisfaction, competence, development skills, gender, organisational climate and employee development, all have demonstrated significant correlations with stress. The regression analysis showed that the model significantly predicted a sizable portion of variance (R2 = 0.27, p < 0.001) in the physical and psychological stress among nurses working in the older people care settings. Conclusion: The nursing profession and the employing agencies should support nurses who care for older people in practice by conducting special training programmes to cope with stress. Interventional studies should be conducted to confirm the association between the nurses' work stress who care for older people and job satisfaction, competence, development skills, gender, organisational climate and employee development. Implications for practice: It is recommended that rotating appropriate competent nurses who care for older people, in particular dementia patients who are usually very ill may have greater needs due to their cognitive status, through other wards would temporarily reduce the nurses' stress. The nursing profession and the employing agencies should support nurses who care for older people in practice by conducting special training programmes focusing on the teaching skills and knowledge of how to deal with stress. The current discussion on the nursing shortage needs to focus as much on nursing job satisfaction and retention as on nursing recruitment and education. Selected aspects of the motivational psychology of Abraham Maslow, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and Frederick Hertzberg are here discussed in light of the challenges-opportunities of nursing in Turkey and elsewhere. Introduction: The Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol, revised version (CIWA-Ar), developed and validated for research, is used in our inpatient academic medical center. We sought to assess nursing satisfaction with the scale itself, training for using the scale, and nursing staff use of the CIWA-Ar., Methods: A retrospective chart review included all patients with an order for CIWA-Ar between August 1, 2014, and September 30, 2014. Data collected included demographics, admitting diagnosis, vital signs, admission blood alcohol level, lorazepam total daily dose, and CIWA-Ar scores. Nursing staff was sent an anonymous, 26-question survey in January 2015. The survey collected demographics, training history, and recommendations for modifications to the CIWA-Ar., Results: During the 2-month period, 274 patients had orders for CIWA-Ar, with 113 receiving at least one dose of lorazepam. Lorazepam was not given to 21% of patients when they scored >8 on the CIWA-Ar, whereas 71% of patients received a dose of lorazepam when they had a CIWA score <8. The survey was sent to 2011 clinical nurses, with 284 responses received (14% response rate). Only 36% of responding nurses felt adequately trained to administer the CIWA-Ar. Most nurses preferred on-the-job and online training methods., Discussion: Nursing use of the CIWA-Ar could be optimized at this institution. Fewer than half of respondents reported feeling adequately training to administer the CIWA-Ar. A peri-operative bay was created to treat all patients with proximal femoral fractures admitted to one trauma ward at the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. All patients had urinary catheterisation and their fluid intake and output was recorded; patients had daily blood tests and were cared for on pressure-relieving mattresses. In addition, a study day was provided for all nursing staff on the management of patients with proximal femoral fractures. These measures resulted in a significant decrease in the incidence of acute kidney injury, reduced the length of hospital stay for patients on this ward and reduced the numbers of falls and pressure-related injuries for these patients.
