Дисертація присвячена вирішенню актуального завдання - визначення закономірностей зміни ефективності шумозахисних екранів від їх конструктивних параметрів і геометричного розташування, пошуку шляхів збільшення їх ефективності. В роботі запропонована нова математична модель шумозахисного екрану з кінцевої звукоізоляцією. Для вирішення завдання використовувався метод часткових областей. Що дозволило визначити акустичне поле навколо екрану та оцінити зниження звукового тиску екраном. Були проведені натурні та експериментальні дослідження, які показали високу точність кореляції з моделлю. Результати дисертації використовувалися під час виконання розрахункових робіт, при розробці рекомендацій для проектування шумозахисних екранів на території України та підготовленні рекомендації до впровадження змін в державні стандарти. The dissertation is dedicated to solution of the actual problem: determination of patterns of change in the effectiveness of acoustic shields from their design parameters and geometric location, searching for ways to increase their effectiveness. To do this, we have analyzed all currently available methods, compared them, and identified their drawbacks. Since the technical requirements for the operation of shields require technical gaps, the task of finding the effectiveness of an acoustic shield with a gap at its basis has been set and solved in the paper for the first time; the problem of finding the acoustic field around the infinitely long acoustic shield with perforation has been set and solved for the first time; the model of the acoustic shield with the ultimate acoustic insulation in the form of a perforated acoustically-hard shield has been suggested for the first time; the computer modeling of the acoustic shield was improved with the help of the finite-element method for finding the levels of sound pressure of a moving sound source around the acoustic shield; a high quality evaluation of the effectiveness of acoustic shields with ultimate acoustic insulation in a wide range of frequencies and sizes of acoustic shields has been obtained. The paper offers a new mathematical model of acoustic shield with ultimate acoustic insulation. To solve the problem, the method of partial areas was used. This made it possible to determine the acoustic field around the shield and estimate the decrease in the sound pressure by the shield. The full-scale investigation and experimental studies were conducted that showed high accuracy of the correlation with the model. A new method for calculating the acoustic insulation of shields was developed, using holes and gaps in the shield body. Numerous values and comparisons of using different sizes of gaps in the shield body have been presented in the paper, which allows editing the value of the soundproofing properties of the materials. As we know, the soundproofing properties affect the overall effectiveness of the shield. Also, the calculations and comparison of shields with different acoustic insulation have helped identify that the shield’s acoustic self-insulation of more than 38 dB is equal to an absolutely hard shield. This allows us to conclude that it is not necessary to invest extra money in highly insulating materials to increase the effectiveness of the shield. The effectiveness is rather influenced by geometric dimensions. The paper also presents numerical calculations of the shield effectiveness, depending on their geometric dimensions. They make it clear that the higher the height, the greater the effectiveness of the shield. One can also see that three-meter-high shields have very low effectiveness. Therefore, the uselessness of using shields of such height on a flat terrain has been proven. In the paper, the computer software for calculation of the effectiveness of acoustic shields has been improved. The improved version takes into account the gap and the acoustic self-insulation of the shield body. The practical importance of the results obtained is in the use of acoustic shields with a hole in their basis, in the assessment of the acoustic properties of the shields with ultimate acoustic insulation, in the establishment of quantitative relationships between the geometric parameters of the acoustic shield and its effectiveness, and in taking them into account in the acoustic design of acoustic shields. The results of the dissertation were used in calculation work during development of recommendations for design of acoustic shields in Ukraine. Also, recommendations for introduction of changes in state standards were developed. Диссертация посвящена решению актуальной задачи определения закономерностей изменения эффективности шумозащитных экранов от их конструктивных параметров и геометрического расположения, поиска путей увеличения их эффективности. В работе предложена новая математическая модель шумозащитного экрана с конечной звукоизоляцией. Для решения задачи использовался метод частичных областей. Что позволило определить акустическое поле вокруг экрана и оценить снижение звукового давления экраном. Были проведены натурные и экспериментальные исследования, которые показали высокую точность корреляции с моделью. Результаты диссертации использовались при выполнении расчетных работ, при разработке рекомендаций для проектирования шумозащитных экранов на территории Украины и подготовленны рекомендации к внедрению изменений в государственные стандарты.

Big data is one of the most promising research trends of this decade, and navigation data allows for unprecedented opportunities for designing future low-carbon transportation infrastructures. This paper presents two applications based on navigation data in the fields of road and air transport. The first application shows how driving patterns from conventional fuel vehicles can be used for developing real-world scenario analyses for deploying hybrid and electric vehicles, quantifying their energy demand on the electric grid and the infrastructure needed to serve it. Moreover, results of the real-world driving and non-driving emissions from conventional vehicles are also presented, adopting as example the Italian province of Firenze. The second application shows how flight pattern data can be combined with noise emission models to quantify the real-world noise impact of civil air operation. The computed sound levels allow for drawing real-world noise maps and three airports have been chosen as examples: a small aerodrome (Trieste), and two intercontinental hubs (Vienna Schwechat and London Heathrow).

This article belongs to the Special Issue Sensors for Health Monitoring and Disease Diagnosis., Noise and artifacts are inherent contaminating components and are particularly present in Holter electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring. The presence of noise is even more significant in long-term monitoring (LTM) recordings, as these are collected for several days in patients following their daily activities; hence, strong artifact components can temporarily impair the clinical measurements from the LTM recordings. Traditionally, the noise presence has been dealt with as a problem of non-desirable component removal by means of several quantitative signal metrics such as the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), but current systems do not provide any information about the true impact of noise on the ECG clinical evaluation. As a first step towards an alternative to classical approaches, this work assesses the ECG quality under the assumption that an ECG has good quality when it is clinically interpretable. Therefore, our hypotheses are that it is possible (a) to create a clinical severity score for the effect of the noise on the ECG, (b) to characterize its consistency in terms of its temporal and statistical distribution, and (c) to use it for signal quality evaluation in LTM scenarios. For this purpose, a database of external event recorder (EER) signals is assembled and labeled from a clinical point of view for its use as the gold standard of noise severity categorization. These devices are assumed to capture those signal segments more prone to be corrupted with noise during long-term periods. Then, the ECG noise is characterized through the comparison of these clinical severity criteria with conventional quantitative metrics taken from traditional noise-removal approaches, and noise maps are proposed as a novel representation tool to achieve this comparison. Our results showed that neither of the benchmarked quantitative noise measurement criteria represent an accurate enough estimation of the clinical severity of the noise. A case study of long-term ECG is reported, showing the statistical and temporal correspondences and properties with respect to EER signals used to create the gold standard for clinical noise. Avrupa Parlamentosu ve Konseyi tarafından yayımlanan Çevresel Gürültü Yönetmeliği (2002/49/EC), Türkiye’de de ‘Çevresel Gürültünün Değerlendirilmesi ve Yönetimi Yönetmeliği’ olarak yayımlanmıştır. Bu Yönetmeliğin amacı, çevresel gürültüye maruz kalınması sonucu kişilerin huzur ve sükûnunun, beden ve ruh sağlığının bozulmaması için gerekli tedbirlerin alınmasını sağlamaktır. Bu amaçla, sırasıyla çevresel gürültüye maruz kalma seviyelerinin belirlenmesi için gürültü haritalama teknikleri, kamuoyunun bilgilendirilmesi ve eylem planlarının oluşturulması adımları uygulanmalıdır. Tüm bu adımların nihai sonucu, özellikle çevresel gürültüye maruz kalma seviyelerinin insan sağlığı üzerinde zararlı etkilere sebep olabileceği ve çevresel gürültü kalitesini korumanın gerekli olduğu yerlerde, gürültüyü önleme ve azaltmaya yönelik eylemlerin uygulamaya konmasıdır. Bu yönetmeliklere göre gürültü rahatsızlığı, belirli bir bölgenin gürültü haritalarının ve bu bölgede yaşayan kişilerle yapılacak anketlerin karşılaştırılarak, doz-etki ilişkilerinin ortaya çıkartılması ile belirlenmelidir. Gürültü rahatsızlığı ve uyku bozulması için sırasıyla gürültü haritalama sonucunda ortaya konan Lgag ve Lgece gürültü göstergeleri belirlenmiştir. Yönetmeliklerde, gürültü haritalarının gürültüye maruz kalan bir alanda ikamet eden tahmini insan sayısını, eylem planlarının ise etkilenen (rahatsız edilen, uykusu bozulan veya başka türlü) insan sayısındaki azalma tahminlerini içermesi gerekliliği vurgulanmıştır. Yönetmeliğin ve dünyadaki gürültü kontrolü çalışmalarının ana amacı gürültü rahatsızlığını azaltmak olsa da, uygulamalar gürültü seviyelerini azaltmak üzerine yoğunlaşmıştır. Bunun nedeni gürültünün ölçülebilir ve hesap modelleri ile tahmin edilebilir olması, gürültü rahatsızlığının ise doz-etki ilişkileriyle gürültü göstergelerine bağlanmış olmasıdır. Lgag ve Lgece gürültü göstergelerini gürültü rahatsızlığı ve uyku bozulması ile bağlayan doz-etki ilişkileri Avrupa Komisyonu çalışma gruplarınca tavsiye niteliğinde derlenmiştir. Bu doz-etki ilişkileri Kuzey Avrupa, Kuzey Amerika ve Avustralya’da gerçekleştirilmiş olan sosyo-akustik anketlerin sonuçlarından oluşturulmuştur. Bu ilişkiler rahatsızlığın sosyal etmenlerini içermediği için diğer ülkelerde uygulanması doğru sonuçlar vermemektedir. Bazı çalışmalarda doz-etki ilişkilerinde sosyal, psikolojik veya ekonomik faktörlerin, akustik veya fiziksel faktörlerden çok daha önemli olduğu bulunmuştur. Diğer yandan, bir çok çalışma, A ağırlıklı gürültü göstergelerinin veya Lgag ve Lgece’nin, gürültü rahatsızlığının bir çok özelliğini yansıtmadığını ortaya konmuştur. Gürültü rahatsızlığını belirlemede daha etkili olacak ve daha kesin sonuçlara ulaştıracak bir yöntem, küresel gürültü göstergelerinden vazgeçmek ve gürültü haritaları için toplanan veriyi girdi olarak alıp, fiziksel ve fiziksel olmayan etkenleri de ele alarak gürültü rahatsızlığını çıktı olarak veren yerel modeller oluşturmak olabilir. Bu amaçla, bu tez çalışması, karayolu trafik gürültüsü rahatsızlığı tahmin modeli geliştirmek için bir yaklaşım ortaya koymaktadır. Bu yaklaşım, trafik, kentsel gelişim ve toplumun özelliklerini de göz önüne alarak yetkili makamların kendi gürültü rahatsızlığı tahmin modellerini oluşturmalarını sağlamaktadır. Bu yaklaşımın amacı, gürültü göstergeleri kullanmadan, hem akustik hem de sosyal etkenleri işin içine katan yerel karayolu trafik gürültüsü rahatsızlığı tahmin modeli geliştirmektir. Modeli oluşturan yaklaşım, gürültü haritalama, sosyo-akustik anketler, ses yalıtım ölçümleri, ses kayıtları ve dinleme testleri gibi bilinen yöntemleri bir araya getirmektedir. Bu yöntemlerin hepsinin birlikte kullanımı gürültü kaynakları, kentsel ses yayılımı ve evlerinde duydukları gürültü tiplerine insanların tepkileri üzerine detaylı bilgi sağlamakta ve daha kesin sonuçları olan bir model yaratmaya yardımcı olmaktadır. Gürültü rahatsızlığı tahmin modeli, sadece gürültü düzeylerini azaltmaya değil, gürültü rahatsızlığını azaltmaya odaklanmış, maliyet etkin, eylem planları yaratmaya yardımcı olacaktır. Tahmin modeli gürültü rahatsızlığına etki eden etkenleri ayrıntılı olarak belirlediği için eylemlerin planlanması ve sonuçların anında hesaplanması mümkün olacaktır. Bu yaklaşım için bazı sınırlamalar bulunmaktadır. Yaklaşım sadece karayolu trafik gürültüsü için tasarlanmıştır fakat ileride diğer çevresel gürültü kaynakları için de uyarlanabilir. Çalışma gece saatleri için uyanma, hareketlilik veya sağlık etkilerini içermediği için uyku bozulmasını içermemekte, sadece gürültü rahatsızlığını içermektedir. Kentsel ölçekte ses azalmasında meteorolojik etkiler ihmal edilebilir olduğu için meteorolojik etkiler yaklaşımda yer almamaktadır. Yaklaşımda çalışma yapılacak bölge seçildikten sonra ilk ana adım gürültü haritalamadır. Gürültü haritalama, yöntemin uygulanmasında kullanılmayacaktır fakat yöntemin oluşturulması aşamasında kullanılmaktadır. Varsa bölgenin mevcut gürültü haritası kullanılabilir ya da yönetmeliğin önerdiği yöntemle gürültü haritalama gerçekleştirilebilir. Gürültü haritalama için uygun simülasyon programının seçilmesi, gerekli verilerin toplanması, modelin oluşturulması ve doğrulama ölçümlerinin yapılması gerekmektedir. Gürültü haritalama sonucunda hem gürültü haritaları, hem etkilenen kişi sayıları hem de cephelerde gürültü düzeyleri ortaya konmaktadır. Yaklaşımda ikinci ana adım, bölgede sosyo-akustik anketlerin gerçekleştirilmesidir. Bunun için örnek sorulardan anketler oluşturulur, anketler bölgede uygulanır, istatiksel yöntemlerle anketlerin güvenilirliği belirlenir ve gürültü haritalarından elde edilen cephelerde gürültü düzeyleri ile sosyo-akustik anket sonuçları karşılaştırılarak doz-etki ilişkileri belirlenir. Yaklaşımda üçüncü ana adım cephe ses yalıtımı ölçümleridir. Bunun için cephe elemanları belirlenir, sahada ölçüm yapılabilecek cepheler belirlenir, ölçümler gerçekleştirilir ve örneklem sayısının doğrulanır. Bunların tamamlanamaması durumunda laboratuvar ölçümleri ya da benzer saha çalışmalarından yardım alınabilir. Bu adımın sonunda cephe ses yalıtımı filtresi oluşturulur. Yaklaşımda dördüncü ana adım ses kayıtlarıdır. Bölgedeki en yaygın karayolu araç tipleri ve araç kullanma koşulları belirlenerek, standartlara uygun koşullardaki test yollarında tekil araçların farklı trafik durumlarında yarattıkları sesler kaydedilir. Yaklaşımda beşinci ana adım ses parçalarıdır. Bu adımda öncelikle tekil araçların ses kayıtları bir araya getirilerek bölgedeki farklı yol tiplerinde duyulabilecek ses parçaları oluşturulur. Daha sonra bölgedeki kentsel ses yayılımı incelenerek ses yayılımı filtreleri oluşturulur. Uzaklık ve atmosferik yutuculuk filtreleri, ses yayılımı filtreleri ve daha önce oluşturulan cephe ses yalıtım filtresi uygulanarak bölgede farklı evlerin içerisinde duyulabilecek ses parçaları oluşturulur. Yaklaşımda altıncı ana adım dinleme testleridir. Dinleme testleri anket soruları ve ses parçaları ile oluşturulur, kontrollü bir ortamda bölgede yaşayanlarla testler gerçekleştirilir, sonuçlar analiz edilerek bir karayolu trafik gürültüsü rahatsızlık modeli oluşturulur. Son adım için dinleme testleri sonucunda oluşturulan karayolu trafik gürültüsü rahatsızlık modeli sahada gerçekleştirilen sosyo-akustik anketlerle karşılaştırılarak doğrulanmış bir karayolu trafik gürültüsü rahatsızlık tahmin modeli oluşturulur. Bu tez çalışmasında, önerilen yaklaşım İstanbul’un Beşiktaş ilçesinde bir karayolu trafik gürültüsü rahatsızlık tahmin modeli geliştirmek için uygulanmıştır. Yaklaşımın tüm adımları, gürültü haritalama, sosyo-akustik anketler, ses yalıtım ölçümleri, ses kayıtları, ses parçaları ve dinleme testleri, tahmin modelini geliştirmek ve doğrulamak için uygulanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda rahatsızlığı etkileyen ve tahmin modellerinde kullanılabilecek önemli ilişkilere ulaşılmıştır. Yol tiplerinin ve sesin şehirde yayılımının rahatsızlığı tahmin etmede önemi ve uygulanabilirliği ortaya çıkmıştır. Gürültü haritalarında dikkate alınmayan ikincil yolların, korna ve motosiklet gibi trafik elemanlarının gürültü rahatsızlığının belirlenmesindeki önemi ortaya çıkmıştır. Ana yollar ile direk görsel temasın uzaklık azaltımının rahatsızlık üzerindeki etkisini eleyebileceği belirlenmiştir. İleride araştırmaya açık konular, bu yaklaşımın, basitleştirilmesi diğer ulaşım türleri için denemesi ve uyku bozukluğu için geliştirilmesi olabilir. Bu tip rahatsızlık tahmin modelleri farklı ülkeler, farklı yerleşimler, farklı sosyal ve ekonomik bölgeler için oluşturulabilir. Karayolu gürültü rahatsızlığı tahmin modeli, trafik elemanlarının, yolların ve yerleşimlerin, gürültü rahatsızlığı üzerine etkilerini ortaya çıkartarak, yeni yerleşim alanlarının planlanmasında veya gürültü eylem planlarının oluşturulmasında yardımcı olacaktır., The main objective of “Assessment and Management of Environmental Noise (2002/49/EC)” Directive (The European Parliament and The Council of The European Union, 2002) is to define a common approach intended to avoid, prevent or reduce the harmful effects, including annoyance, due to exposure to environmental noise. To that end, noise mapping, informing the public and action planning shall be implemented. The term, ‘annoyance’ is defined in the Directive as ‘the degree of community noise annoyance as determined by means of field surveys’. Lden and Lnight are defined as noise indicators for annoyance and for sleep disturbance, respectively. Noise annoyance dose-effect relations are to be established for these given indicators. It is stated in the Directive that each action plan should contain estimates in terms of reduction in number of people annoyed and sleep disturbed. Although the main purpose of the Directive and of noise control studies over the world is to reduce noise annoyance, the implementation is focused mostly on reducing noise levels, not annoyance, because annoyance levels are directly linked to noise levels in dose-effect relationships. Dose-effect relationships linking Lden and Lnight noise indicators to annoyance levels are provided by European Commission Working Groups. The dose-effect relationships were created from socio-acoustic surveys, made in countries of North Europe, North America and Australia. These relationships do not necessarily apply to other countries to consider social factors of annoyance. In some studies it is concluded that in dose effect relationships, social, psychological or economic factors, are far more important than acoustic or physical factors. On the other hand, many studies have shown that the indicators used, such as A-weighted values or Lden and Lnight, do not reflect many aspects of annoyance. A more efficient and accurate way to determine annoyance might be to eliminate global noise indicators and to create local models which use all the information collected for noise mapping as input, and provide annoyance levels as a direct output, taking into account physical and non-physical factors. To that end, this study is designed to create an approach for developing a road traffic noise annoyance prediction model. This approach allows authorities to develop their own annoyance prediction models, taking into account characteristics of traffic, urban development and population. The objective of this approach is to create an accurate local road traffic noise annoyance prediction model which considers not only acoustical aspects but also social aspects, without using noise indicators. The approach to develop the model includes well known methods such as noise maps, socio-acoustic surveys, sound insulation measurements, sound recordings and listening tests. Using all of these methods together, provides detailed information on noise sources, urban propagation conditions and people’s responses to certain types of noise heard inside their homes, which help to create an accurate model. Using an accurate annoyance prediction model may provide cost effective action plans which focus on decreasing annoyance levels, and not only noise levels. Planning actions against annoyance may be easier to organize because the model helps to understand the factors which effect annoyance levels. There are some limitations to this approach. The approach is only for road traffic noise sources, but further studies may be used to implement the approach for other noise sources. This approach is for general noise annoyance and not sleep disturbance, because this study does not include awakening, motility or health effects. Meteorological effects are not taken into account because of the negligible attenuation in urban conditions. In this thesis, the approach is implemented to create an annoyance prediction model in the urban area of Besiktas in Istanbul city of Turkey, for road traffic noise. All the steps of the approach, noise maps, socio-acoustic surveys, sound insulation measurements, sound recordings, sound clips and listening tests are used to develop and to validate the model., Doktora, PhD

Noise pollution is a major environmental problem in urban spaces worldwide. The first step toward noise abatement is determining and evaluating noise levels in order to best prioritize and implement protective measures. The city of Osijek, as is obligated by law and the European Directive, has done this by creating a noise map. In this paper, we present measures for noise abatement, showing some of the measures implemented in Osijek based on their noise map, and review possible methods for abating noise in the most vulnerable areas., Zagađenje bukom danas je jedan od glavnih, u svijetu prisutnih problema zagađenja okoliša i urbanog prostora. Prvi korak ka smanjenju razina buke je utvrđivanje i ocjena razina buke kako bi se mogli definirati prioriteti za provedbu mjera zaštite. Grad Osijek, budući da je dužan prema Zakonu o zaštiti od buke i Direktivi Europskog parlamenta, izradio je kartu buke koja prikazuje razine buke i njihovu prostornu distribuciju. Ovaj rad prikazuje mjere za zaštitu od buke te neke od mjera provedene u gradu Osijeku i, na osnovu stanja utvrđenog kartom buke, razmatra mogućnosti provedbe mjera za zaštitu od buke najugroženijih područja.

Considerado um problema para o homem desde épocas recuadas, o ruído ambiental tem na atualidade uma importância que o leva a ser encarado como um dos problemas ambientais mais preocupantes, principalmente nas cidades. A importância dada ao ruído ambiental parece ter ganho maior relevo devido aos efeitos na saúde humana, com tendência crescente na União Europeia (UE). Maioritariamente prejudicial em zonas urbanas, o ruído ambiental possui como principais condicionantes a forte urbanização resultante do avanço tecnológico e industrial, a crescente procura de transportes motorizados, bem como, o ineficaz planeamento urbano. As consequências na saúde humana levaram a UE a criar um sistema legislativo que tem contribuído para a imposição de diagnósticos e adoção de políticas no caminho da redução do ruído, por forma a oferecer a melhor qualidade de vida, nos países da UE. Este estudo, baseado nos mapas de ruído adotados nas políticas ambientais, tem como ambição analisar, à visão do arquiteto, estes instrumentos e perceber qual a influência da forma urbana na propagação do ruído. Através de uma primeira abordagem a nível europeu, analisando as principais fontes de ruído em aglomerados urbanos, o estudo concentrar-se-á em Lisboa, com o intuito de perceber como o crescimento e o desenvolvimento do sistema estrutural da cidade conduziu à presença excessiva de índices de ruído elevados. Having been a considerable problem for humane kind (and we are referring decades or centuries ago), environmental noise constitutes a major preoccupation concerning trouble issues, mainly in the cities. The importance that is given to the environmental and urban noise seems to have gained a major importance due to the effects that they cause upon human health. This scenario has been growing in the European Union (EU). Playing a major role, having in consideration urban areas, environmental noise carries itself a stronger peopling of the cities, as a logical consequence that results from the advancing of technological and industrial developments. Also, the increasing demand for motorized means of transportation, together with an urban planning that never was near to success, drove us all to a failure in what concerns urban planning. The consequences upon human health gave way to EU to build up a specific legal regime that has been driving towards compulsory means of diagnosis and adoption of politics towards the reducing of noise so that a better quality of life can be held in the countries of the EU. This study, based upon the noise maps properly adopted to the environmental politics has, as a main goal (considering the point of view of architecture) the available tools so that he may be able to understand how the urban shape can act on propagation of noise. Having in consideration the first approach within a European scope, and, at the same time, analysing the main sources of noise in dense populated centres, our study is going to be focused in Lisbon. The main objective is to try to understand how the growth and development structural system of the city led us to excessive levels of urban noise.

Dissertação de mestrado em Engenharia Urbana, Urban Noise is considered to be one of the major problems that emerged from urban growth, which affects negatively the public health and causes a negative impact on the standard of living in the cities, as a result lot of cities took steps to deal with such a problem, but because of the different sources and states of each country in the world it can’t be said that the solutions for each country were the same so it is normal that there are still a lack of action and attention toward urban noise in a lot of urban areas all over the world. Damascus city is the capital of Syria a middle eastern country in the Arab world, located in the west south of Syria with a population of 1.780.000 (CIVIL AFFAIRS RECORDS, CBSSYR, 2011) with a density range between 714 inhabitants/ha in crowded areas to 37 inhabitants/ha in new planned area, because of its role as the capital of Syria; it is considered to be the political and the administrative center, and it suffers from a high population in comparison with the rest of the cities of Syria and a poor urban planning development, as a result Damascus also suffers from high noise levels, mainly generated from the traffic, another reason for the high level of the noise is the lack of public awareness toward the bad effects of it. This research aims to characterize the noise pollution in an urban area in the old city of Damascus, the study can be divided into three steps, first: study the current situation of urban noise in the city of Damascus and determine the main sources of noise, second: compare the measured noise level with the legalization that was set by the ministry of environment, and third: prepare a noise map for the old city using the NMPB96 methodology with CADNA software to characterize the noise level depending on land use maps, population distribution numbers and traffic maps. The noise map of the old city of Damascus can help to determine the noise levels in the old city the main sources and suggest some solution that can be taken considering re-planning the old city to take a step toward more sustainable development for the heart of the old city of Damascus., Poluição sonora é considerada um dos principais problemas que surgiu como consequência do crescimento urbano, o que afeta negativamente a saúde pública e causa um impacto negativo sobre a qualidade de vida nas cidades. Como resultado, muitas cidades adotaram medidas para lidar com este problema, mas por causa das diferentes fontes e características de cada país no mundo, não pode ser afirmado que as soluções a implementar em cada país sejam as mesmas. A cidade de Damasco é a capital da Síria, país do Oriente Médio, no Mundo Árabe, localizado no sudoeste da Síria com uma população de 1.780.000 (Arquivos dos Assuntos Civis, CBSSYR, 2011) com uma faixa de densidade entre 714 hab / ha em áreas concentradas, e de 37 hab / ha na nova área planeada. Devido à sua função como capital da Síria, é considerada o centro político e administrativo do país. A elevada concentração de população, em comparação com o resto das cidades da Síria, registada em Damasco trouxe como consequência altos níveis de ruído, principalmente gerados a partir do tráfego, mas também devido à falta conscientização do público para os efeitos negativos do ruído. Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo caracterizar a poluição sonora em uma área urbana da cidade antiga de Damasco. O estudo pode ser dividido em três etapas, a primeira: estudo da situação atual de ruído urbano na cidade de Damasco e determinar as principais fontes de ruído, segunda: comparar o nível de ruído medido com a legislação que foi definida pelo Ministério do Meio Ambiente da Síria, e terceira: desenvolver um mapa de ruído para a cidade antiga de Damasco usando o modelo de cálculo NMPB96 recorrendo ao software CADNA. O mapa de ruído da cidade antiga de Damasco pode ajudar a determinar os níveis de ruído, suas principais fontes de ruído e sugerir soluções que podem ser tomadas considerando o replaneamento da cidade antiga e dar um passo em direção a um desenvolvimento mais sustentável para o centro de Damasco.

Çukurova Üniversitesi merkez kampüsü alanında düzenlenen sosyal faaliyetler içerinde yer alan özellikle yükseltilmiş ses kolonları nedeniyle oluşan gürültü kirliliği haritasının yapılması amacıyla verilen konser esnasında Balcalı Hastanesinde tedavi olan hastalara çevresel gürültü açısından olası etkileri değerlendirilmiştir. Bu amaçla çalışmada olası etkileri incelemek amacı ile kullanılan yazılım programı, özellikle Avrupa Birliği ülkelerinde hava alanı, karayolu, demiryolu, sanayiden kaynaklı ve Eğlence gürültülerin hesaplanması için geniş kapsamlı bir yazılım programı olarak önem kazanmıştır. In this study, the effect of the noise pollution originated from spring fest that performed in the amphi-theatre to the Balcali Hospital, both of them are located in the Cukurova University central campus, was analyzed and evaluated. The noise map was constituted in order to evaluate the negative effects of the elevated sound that emitted during the spring fest on the patients treating in the hospital. SoundPLAN software was used to create noise maps which is largely take place in the members of the European Union to determine the effects of the noise emitted from different sources including airport, highway, industry, and entertainment. The noise map was considered to determine the effects of the noise pollution and the potential measures to reduce the emitted sounds. The purpose of this study is determining the current noise sources in Cukurova University Cenrtal Campus and measuring the pollution caused by these sources and discovering the dense points by preparing the maps of the pollution.

International audience; This study is a part of a pluridisciplinary project on the assessment of the environmental impacts of an urban mobility plan and their socio-economic consequences. One of the main objectives is to be able to build and to compare noise maps of large cities, related to various mobility plan parameters. Considering the computational time that is required for making classical noise maps a simplified approach of the French standard NMPB2008 method of sound propagation in urban areas has been proposed. A striking feature of the proposed approach is that the model is implemented within a two-dimensional geographic information system software (OrbisGIS). Incidentally a specific attention has been paid to the optimization of algorithms in order to reduce computational times and memory footprint. The method is then able to produce noise maps in few hours on a personal computer, for very large domains, around several millions of squared meters. A validation is presented by comparing noise maps produced by the proposed approach with “regular” noise maps of Nantes Métropole using the French standard method. Lastly, several mobility plans have been compared by considering their impacts on the spreading of noise in the urban environment.

The development of cities and population growth have led, among other urban problems, the increase in sound pressure levels of environmental noise. With the overcrowding of cities, the roads start to host large flows of vehicles, among other sound sources. These factors, coupled with the layout and massing of buildings, make the road a polluter responsible for sound pressure levels highly detrimental to health. In Brazil, noise has not been considered by urban planning policies. This study aims to assess the current conditions of urban noise pollution due to vehicular traffic on the downtown of Chapecó - SC. To this end, we sought to map the sound pressure levels, compare them to the municipal and federal laws relating to urban noise, to relate the sound descriptors of the traffic noise with the volume of traffic, to relate the geometry of the built environment with levels of sound pressure and compare the results with the rates proposed by the urban plan of the municipality. To conduct the survey data, was defined a mesh grid from which were located 14 measuring points. Data collection was performed at peak times and these data have been divided into acoustic quantities, geometrical quantities, quantities of traffic and meteorological quantities. The sound pressure levels collected from the study area had higher than those recommended by national standards at all times and points of measurement. From the linear regression analysis between the sound descriptors and flow of vehicular traffic, it was realized that the LAeq is not sufficient to explain the vehicular noise, because the variation of the LAeq is influenced not only by the variation in the number of vehicles, but also by the features the built environment of the road. The variation of LA90 and LA50 sound descriptors showed better correlation with the variation of the flow of vehicular traffic. The urbanistic indices proposed by the plan of the municipality stimulate the future shape of urban canyons, which can aggravate the problems related to noise from vehicular traffic in the local community. O desenvolvimento das cidades e o crescimento demográfico têm acarretado, entre outros problemas urbanos, o aumento dos níveis de pressão sonora do ruído ambiental. Com a aglomeração dos centros urbanos, as vias passam a abrigar grandes fluxos de veículos, entre outras fontes sonoras. Esses fatores, aliados à disposição e à volumetria das edificações, tornam o tráfego rodoviário um poluidor acústico responsável por níveis de pressão sonora altamente prejudiciais à saúde. No Brasil, o ruído não tem sido considerado pelas políticas de planejamento urbano. O presente estudo tem por objetivo avaliar as condições atuais de poluição sonora urbana devido ao tráfego veicular em área central do município de Chapecó SC. Para tanto, buscou-se mapear os níveis de pressão sonora, comparar os mesmos à legislação municipal e federal referente ao ruído urbano, relacionar os descritores sonoros do ruído de tráfego com o volume de tráfego, relacionar a geometria do ambiente construído com os níveis de pressão sonora e comparar os resultados com os índices urbanísticos propostos pelo plano diretor do município. Para realização do levantamento de dados, foi definida uma malha quadriculada a partir da qual foram localizados 14 pontos de medição. O estudo delimitou a coleta de dados aos horários de pico e estes dados apresentam-se divididos em grandezas acústicas, grandezas geométricas, grandezas de tráfego e grandezas meteorológicas. Os níveis de pressão sonora coletados da área de estudo se apresentaram superiores aos preconizados pelas normativas nacionais em todos os horários e pontos de medição. A partir das análises de regressão linear entre os descritores sonoros e o fluxo de tráfego de veículos, percebeu-se que o LAeq não é suficiente para explicar o ruído veicular, uma vez que a variação do LAeq sofre influência não só da variação no número de veículos, como também das características do ambiente construído da via. A variação dos descritores sonoros LA90 e LA50 demonstraram melhor correlação com a variação do fluxo de tráfego veicular. Os índices urbanísticos propostos pelo plano diretor do município estimulam a configuração futura de cânions urbanos, o que pode agravar os problemas relacionados ao ruído de tráfego veicular enfrentados pela comunidade local.

Due to an increased number of vehicles and increased traffic intensity in urban areas, transportation noise is a growing issue of many cities. The paper elaborates a comprehensive procedure for implementation of noise protection measures (measuring, calculation, protection) of the Zagreb Zoo. The Zoo is located close to a road exceptionally burdened with road and tramway traffic. The measurements of the traffic noise levels were carried out within the Zoo grounds and on the outer side of its fence immediately next to the road. The measured levels of noise and carefully analysed traffic flows were used for verification of the acoustic calculation, elaboration of the noise propagation model, and production of noise maps for the existing noise levels. After the verification of the model, production of noise maps of the future state - with implemented protection measures - was approached. During design and optimization process the influence of the position, length, height and type of the walls and surrounding vegetation on noise reduction has been simulated using precise computer models. The fact that the protected area is a monument of park architecture and a protected cultural good has also been taken into account. The combination of noise protection walls and carefully positioned vegetation led to an optimal solution from the aspect of noise reduction, construction procedure, functionality as well as the architectural design suitable for such an institution.

Bu Çalışmada, Gürültü kirliliğinin önemli kaynağı olan karayolu trafik gürültüsünün Çukurova Üniversitesi kampüsü boyutunda araştırılması ve alınacak önlemlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gürültü kirliliği çarpık ve sağlıksız kentleşmenin önemli ölçütlerinden birisidir. Çukurova Üniversitesi merkez kampüsü alanında gürültü kirliliği haritasının yapılması amacıyla trafiğin yoğun olduğu kavşakta 7 ayrı nokta belirlenmiştir. Trafiğin yoğun olduğu; 07.00-10.00 saatleri arasında sabah, 11.00-14.00 saatleri arasında öğle, 16.00-18.00 saatleri arasında öğleden sonra ve 19.00-20.00 saatleri arasında akşam araç sayımları yapılmıştır. Nüfus artışına paralel olarak artan taşıt yoğunluğu ve mevcut karayollarının buna cevap verecek düzeyde olmaması ve sürücülerin eğitim eksikliklerinden kaynaklanan yanlış davranışları nedeniyle gürültü düzeyi artmaktadır. Çalışmada kullanılan yazılım programı, özellikle Avrupa Birliği ülkelerinde hava alanı, karayolu, demiryolu ve sanayiden kaynaklı gürültülerin hesaplanması için geniş kapsamlı bir yazılım programı olarak önem kazanmıştır. Kampüsün karayollarından kaynaklanan trafik gürültüsünün belirlenmesi ve sıcak nokta olarak belirlenen güzergahlarda SoundPLAN programı kullanılarak alınabilecek önlemlere ilişkin hesaplamalar yapılarak gürültü haritaları incelenmiştir. Sonuçta, Çukurova Üniversitesi Merkez Kampüsü mevcut gürültü kaynakları belirlenmiş ve bu kaynakların çevreye verdiği kirliliğin ölçülerek kirlilik kaynaklarının haritalama yöntemi ile yoğunlaşma noktaları ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Noise pollution is one of important parameters for irregular urbanization. The aim is researching about the noise pollution in Cukurova University Campus which is caused by vehicle traffic on highway and taking precautions. For making the map of noise pollution in Cukurova University central Campus, 7 points are determined where the traffic is dense. 07.00-10.00 in the morning, 11.00-14.00 in midday, 16.00-18.00 in the afternoon and 19.00-20.00 when in the evening the traffic is dense, the cars are counted. The level of noise pollution increases because of the increase in car numbers which is effected from the increase of population and lack of highways and lack of education which the drivers should have. The calculations about determining the hot point on the highway and the precautions to be taken for reducting the noise pollution are made by using SoundPLAN software. This software which is used especially in EU countries airports, highways, railways and industry sites has become a very important software. The purpose of this study is determining the current noise sources in Cukurova University Cenrtal Campus and measuring the pollution caused by these sources and discovering the dense points by preparing the maps of the pollution. El ruido es considerado como uno de los contaminantes de alto nivel que afecta de manera negativa la calidad de vida de las personas que viven en los centros urbanos y la de los ecosistemas. Objetivos. Consolidar diferentes estrategias integrales de Gestión Ambiental de Ruido en el Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburra;administrar dos estaciones fijas de calidad acústica y divulgar la importancia de los mapas de ruido. Materiales y Métodos. Se llevaron a cabo diferentes estrategias como: divulgación, capacitación y jornadas académicas en los diferentes municipios que conforman el Área Metropolitana. Resultados. Más de un 60% de la comunidad identifica el tráfico rodado como el principal problema y cómo un 85% de los funcionarios que asistieron a las capacitaciones desconoce de la existencia de los mapas de ruido. Conclusión. Es necesaria la consolidación de estrategias de sensibilización ante el problema de ruido y apropiar a los diferentes integrantes de las Administraciones municipales del conocimiento e información que existe en los mapas de ruido. To consolidate different integral environmental management strategies for noise in the Aburrá ´s Valley Metropolitan Area; to manage two stations of acoustic quality and to inform about the importance noise maps have. Materials and Methods. Different strategies were used, such as: information, training and academic sessions in the Metropolitan Area municipalities. Results. More than 60% of the community identifies traffic as the main problem and 85% of the officials that attended the activities ignore the existence of noise maps. Conclusion. It is necessary to consolidate awareness about noise problems and train the municipality officials about noise maps. Zagreb City Zoological Garden (Zoo) is situated within Maksimir Park, established by the end of the 18th and in the first half of the 19th century, on what then were the border areas of the city. Today, the Park is almost entirely surrounded by residential and business areas, and, immediately next to the Zoo, there is a road exceptionally burdened with road and tramway traffic. The problem of increased noise levels in public parks and other recreation and rest areas has not been given a major attention, until today. Increasing complaints by employees and visitors of the Zoo motivated the Management to start the procedure for improvement of the existing state with respect to noise protection. The elaboration of the study of noise protection walls, as optimum way of protection in urban areas, was entrusted to the Civil Engineering Faculty, University of Zagreb. The paper presents a comprehensive procedure for implementation of the noise protection measures (measuring, calculation, protection) of the Zagreb Zoo. The measurements of the traffic noise levels were carried out within the Zoo grounds and on the outer side of its fence immediately next to the road. The measured levels of noise were used for verification of the acoustic calculation, elaboration of the noise propagation model, and production of noise maps for the existing noise levels. After the verification of the model, production of noise maps of the future state - with protection walls - was approached. During optimization of the position, length, height and type of the walls, the fact that the protected area is a monument of park architecture and a protected cultural good was taken into account as well as the fact that it represents an antique, but also a living part of the city for which it is necessary to keep and preserve its leading place among the historical sights, along with the application of the modern approach of protection.

This paper summarises the progress made by TNO on describing the most significant natural and anthropogenic sound sources in the North Sea (Dutch sector). An assessment of their relative importance is made by estimating an annual energy budget, not neglecting that details of the sound distribution in frequency, time and space might be equally important. Our approach to propagation modelling of the noise sources in the shallow waters near the Dutch coast is explained. Example noise maps are presented. Validation of the noise predictions requires a capability for long-term noise monitoring. Suitable monitoring solutions are discussed.

The study presents an investigation into traffic based noise pollution in the city of Kirikkale, Turkey. For this purpose, traffic noise levels were measured at 15 intersections across the city during three peak times ‐ morning (08:00–09:00), noon (12:30–13:30) and evening (17:00–18:00) hours. The comparison ofLeqvalues against the limit values of the Turkish Noise and Control Regulations for Settlement Zones showed thatLeqvalues exceeded the limits at all stations. A linear regression analysis performed between theLeqand logarithm of total traffic volume (log Q) produced a coefficient of determination of 0.52. A multi regression analysis carried out between theLeqand four different vehicle types resulted in a correlation coefficient of 0.74. The correlation matrix indicated that the highest correlation was found for trucks/buses withr= 0.92. The spatial maps of traffic noise created by the Kriging method under ArcView GIS displayed that there seemed to be significant differences in the spatial variation of traffic noise across the city. U radu je dan cjelovit prikaz postupka izrade karata buke. Detaljno je opisana europska Direktiva za buku okoliša koja je osnova svih novih standarda iz područja zaštite od buke u otvorenom prostoru. Prikazan je pregled hrvatskih propisa iz ovog područja kao i utjecajnih parametara, metoda proračuna i računalnih programa. Navedena su iskustva nekih europskih gradova u izradi karata buke od prometa. Istaknut je njihov značaj te predložen postupak izrade karata buke u Hrvatskoj., An extensive account of noise mapping procedures is given. The European Directive on Environmental Noise, which is the basis for all new standards on noise protection in open spaces, is described in great detail. An overview of relevant Croatian regulations and influence parameters is given. The traffic noise mapping experience gained in some European cities is presented. The significance of such maps is emphasized, and the procedure for noise mapping in Croatia is proposed.

The key tool to manage this kind of problem is noise map. Prediction noise maps have helped to extend and facilitate the diagnosis of urban noise pollution. Reliability and accuracy of their results are very dependent on input data which in turn depend on a set of geographic and social characteristics of the city being studied. Under these conditions using a general urban noise prediction model for different cities can be a risky strategy and produce significant errors. In this work, a noise model for the city of Belém, Brasil, has been developed based on environmental noise measures carried out for a few of its districts. Then, this model has been applied to predict the noise of other districts that were not measured.

Correct application of the criteria contained in rules and/or recommendations allows verifying the exposure standards and provides technical directions for actions of protection along acoustically similar areas. Taking into account the compulsory value of the rule and the budget demands, in relation to the complexity of the concerned environmental system (noise sources, physical configuration, exposed people, etc.), an effective implementation of noise control measures can benefit by a procedure for fixing the optimum sequence. This paper we first analyse some priority criteria proposed by some of the authors. A further tool is available using the TEI Technical Economic Index, by the authors, that allows to take into account apart those technical (population, noise levels, etc⋯) also those economics necessary to setting up un index able to take into account the real cost benefit generated by an intervention of noise control. A validation test is executed applying the aforesaid procedures to data sets acquired throughout an Italian urban territory.

The territory of Sciacca has been acoustically subdivided into homogeneous areas by the authors. In the present job, our attention is focused on the zones in class I that includes particularly sensitive areas as schools and hospitals. The acoustic climate inside and outside the hospital of Sciacca is carried out. The hospital was built on a hillock. Around the hillock two roads, an urban and a main highway are present, both with high traffic. With a campaign of measures, in proximity of the roads, in the hospital square, in the parking, and finally inside the hospital, the equivalent level and the patients exposure was calculated as Ld, Ln and DNL. Both the impact due to the roads (considered as external source) and due to internal traffic, equipments, tools of waste treatment (considered as internal source), has been analyzed. The comparison between noise values and normative limits allows us to evaluate the entity and the priority of the interventions.
