France comprises 10,000 km of river levees. Those levees show highly variable performances caused by the various types of design and construction, age, environment, loadings, and maintenance and repair works performed on them. Available information on levees also varies in quality and most often proves to be incomplete, uncertain, or imprecise. Based on this, a method for providing a quantitative evaluation of levee performance is suggested. Such a method, based on a multicriteria decision-making model and subjective probabilities, takes all available pieces of information into account--design, construction, visual inspections, and geophysical and geotechnical investigations--and reckons them with the level of uncertainty of the available data. This method provides decision-making support in identifying the least efficient sections and setting up investigation and maintenance programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

An integrative procedure is proposed with the use of multicriterium techniques for the selection of directors of sugar cane mill. The multicriterium method is applied in planned and evaluative activities, alternative análisis, in definition and negotiation of strategic of intervention and in this investigation in the selection of personnel. This finest alternative for the selection of managing personnel in the enterprise is obtained by the entropy method., RESUMEN La selección de los cuadros en el sector empresarial cubano, y en particular en la agroindustria azucarera, se realiza mediante la evaluación sistemática de los resultados del trabajo de los candidatos con el apoyo fundamental de métodos empíricos. Carece de una valoración integral de factores cuantitativos y cualitativos que puedan medir el comportamiento actual y perspectivo del individuo seleccionado y su idoneidad para el posible desempeño profesional de esta estratégica tarea. En la investigación se propone un procedimiento integral con la utilización de técnicas multicriterio para la selección de directores de empresas azucareras. El método multicriterio es aplicado en las actividades de planificación y evaluación, análisis de alternativas, en la definición y negociación de opciones estratégicas de intervención, y en esta investigación en la selección de cuadros. Electricity generation via renewable sources is emerging as a possible solution to meet thegrowing demand for electricity worldwide. Additionally, the need to produce clean energy, withlittle or no pollutants or greenhouse gas emission is paramount. Due to these factors, wind farmsare noticeably increasing in number, especially in Brazil. However, the vast size of the country andthe poor quality of its infrastructure are among several factors that make it difficult for effectivedecision-making to accelerate the growth of this segment in Brazil. With the purpose of assistinggovernment agencies, regulatory agencies and other institutions in this area, the use of a multicriteriaselection method called the analytic hierarchy process is proposed here to assist in decisionmakingand to select priority regions for implementing wind farms. This work focuses on a casestudy of the state of Bahia, in which 27 territories were selected for an installation priorityevaluation. Computational tools were used to hierarchize these chosen territories, including Matlab,for the construction of the computational algorithm. The results indicate the priority pf the regionsaccording to the established criteria, which allows installation locations to be mapped—these couldserve as a basis for regional investment.

Paper aims This paper aims to assist and facilitate decision-making in health management and work safety by the identification and prioritization of occupational health and safety indicators. Originality This research contributes to the literature by demonstrating the applicability of multicriteria tools to solve health and safety-related issues on organizations and also some implications related to this method. Research method The methodological approach is the application of the Fuzzy AHP method for prioritization of categories of occupational health and safety indicators. Main findings The results show that the category of indicators called “Occupational Health and Safety Management” was considered the most relevant, followed by the categories “Accidents and Diseases” and “Risk Assessment”. Implications for theory and practice For the application of the Fuzzy AHP method it is necessary to compare the level of importance between objects. Collecting these assessments can be difficult. In this paper, more than forty companies were reached but only six responded and only two responses were valid.

Summarization: Environmental sustainability has become a major goal of public policies throughout the world, as environmental resources are continually eliminated. Climate change mitigation involves decarbonizing electricity generation as the most important energy system-wide change, with a vital role for energy efficiency. The utilization and development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) constitutes the most critical measure to safeguard energy security, strengthen environmental protection, and tackle climate change. RES are favored as a means of reducing the use of fossil fuels. The market of RES is continuously developing and promoted through the Internet. Renewable energy is, by definition, sustainable and clean. Moreover, the market of RES offers the opportunity to tackle the increasing depletion of fossil resources and the associated environmental impacts. The paper aims to present RES and study the energy policy in EU and Greece. Furthermore, the status of the renewable energy market in Greece and especially in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki is presented. The Internet research retrieved 30 enterprises that promote renewable energy in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki, which were analyzed according to 18 characteristics representing internet adoption. The multicriteria method used for total ranking is PROMETHEE II. According to PROMETHEE II findings, the ‘superior’ websites can be used to form a conceptual content model while designing an enhanced website for a RES enterprise. The results show that these enterprises in the Prefecture of Thessaloniki must adjust to the new ‘information era’ and aim to become more effective and efficient while creating their autonomous website. Furthermore, most enterprises with their own websites in this sector are generally still in the initial adoption phase and they should further mature in the next phases of e-commerce adoption. Nowadays, stormwater infiltration systems are frequently used because of their ability to reduce flows and volumes in downstream sewers, decrease overflows in surface waters and make it possible to recharge groundwater. Moreover, they come in various forms with different uses. Despite these advantages the long term sustainability of these systems is questionable and their real performances have to be assessed taking into account various and sometimes conflicting aspects. To address this problem a decision support system is proposed. It is based on a multicriteria method built to help managers to evaluate the performance of an existing infiltration system at different stages of its lifespan and identify whether it performs correctly or not, according to environmental, socio-economic, technical and sanitary aspects. To improve the land surface simulation in the arid and semi-arid areas of northern China, the observational data from two field experiments in Dunhuang and Tongyu are used to optimize the parameters in the land surface model, BATS, through calibration with the multicriteria method. Sensitivity analysis to the parameters in Dunhuang and Tongyu indicates that different parameters need to be calibrated in two sites with different environmental and climate regimes. Comparison of observed sensible heat flux, latent heat flux, and ground surface temperature with the simulated ones shows the simulations with the optimized parameters have been substantially improved. Especially, the holistic simulations with the calibration of the parameter values are much closer to the observations in the arid region (Dunhuang), and the energy partition with the calibrated parameters can also be simulated well in the semi-arid region (Tongyu). Whole results demonstrate that the parameter calibration of the land surface model is important when the model is to be used to investigate the land-air interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Foi utilizada como ferramenta a Análise Multicritério, especificamente o Método PROMETHEE II, onde foram traçados Critérios Econômicos, Sociais e Ambientais, a fim de auxiliar na tomada de decisão. Como resultado da pesquisa, fazendo um ranking de todos os critérios, a Cultura da Uva foi considerada como a mais viável para o plantio no PISG, podendo ser recomendado também o plantio da Graviola e do Melão, enquanto que, as menos viáveis foram o Coco, o Mamão e o Abacaxi. The Irrigated Perimeter of São Gonçalo - PISG has been inoperative for years due to the water crisis that plagues the region. To this end, all of its agricultural production has been lost. irrigated. Thus the objective of this research was to analyze which crops are most viable for cultivation in PISG after the arrival of the transposition waters. The Multicriteria Analysis, specifically the PROMETHEE II Method, was used as a tool, which outlined Economic, Social and Environmental Criteria in order to assist in decision making. As a result of the research, ranking all the criteria, Grape Culture was considered as the most viable for planting in PISG, and the planting of Graviola and Melon could be recommended, while the least viable were Coconut , the Papaya and the Pineapple

The management of urban solid waste (MSW) presents major environmental and economic challenges, particularly for small and medium-sized municipalities. The aim of the article is to develop an interactive multicriteria model to help design and evaluate management proposals for RSU (PG-RSU) in the town of Santa Eufemia, Córdoba, Argentina. The PROMETHEE method is used to evaluate PG-RSU and the preferences were relieved in interactive meetings with the municipal government and actors that it involved. Five proposals (PG-RSU_1_Tendencial, ..., PG-RSU_5) were designed and parameterized with seven criteria, Investments ($); Municipal Economic Cost (CEM) ($ year-1 ); GHG emissions (Tn CO2 eqyear-1 ); Landscape and Visual Fragmentation (FPyV); Risk for Health Conditions of the Population; Institutional Political Effort (EPI) and Social Involvement. The results show conflicts between PG-RSU. The Tendencial presents better results in Investments and EPI, but low environmental and economic performance. In contrast, the PG-RSU_3 for EGEI (2,792 Tn CO2 eq yr-1 ), FPyV and CEM ($ 2,687,699 yr-1 ; U$D 189.275) presents the best results. Those involved assigned greater weight to Social Involvement and minors to CEM. The PG-RSU_3 is positioned as the winner in the ranking, followed by PG-RSU_4. The results show better PG-RSU for municipalities of small and medium scale., La gestión de residuos sólidos urbanos (RSU) presenta grandes desafíos ambientales y económicos, particularmente para municipios de pequeña y mediana escala. El objetivo del artículo es desarrollar un modelo multicriterio interactivo para ayudar al diseño y evaluación de propuestas de gestión de RSU (PGRSU) en la localidad de Santa Eufemia, Córdoba, Argentina. Se usa el método PROMETHEE para evaluar PG-RSU y las preferencias se relevaron en encuentros interactivos con el gobierno municipal y actores que éste involucró. Cinco propuestas (PG-RSU_1_Tendencial, ...PG-RSU_5) fueron diseñadas y parametrizadas con siete criterios, Inversiones ($); Costo Económico Municipal (CEM) ($ año-1 ); Emisiones GEI (Tn CO2 eq año-1); Fragmentación del Paisaje y Visuales (FPyV); Riesgo por Afecciones a la Salud de la Población; Esfuerzo Político Institucional (EPI) e Involucramiento Social. Los resultados muestran conflictos entre PG-RSU. La Tendencial presenta mejores resultados en Inversiones y EPI, perobaja performance ambiental y económica. En contraste, la PG-RSU_3 para EGEI (2.792 Tn CO2 eq año-1 ), FPyV y CEM ($ 2.687.699 año-1 ; U$D 189.275) presenta los mejores resultados. Los involucrados asignaron mayores pesos a Involucramiento social y menores a CEM. La PG-RSU_3 se posiciona como ganadora en el ranking, seguida de PG-RSU_4. Los resultados muestran mejores PG-RSU para municipios de pequeña y mediana escala.

Att välja ett nytt, utökat avfallssystem till en kommun är ett stort och komplext beslut med många aspekter att ta hänsyn till. Flera tidigare utredningar inför denna typ av beslut har saknat en tydlig målbild, metodik och systematik i granskningen, varför syftet med denna studie varit att utveckla en metod för att genomföra en systematisk multikriterieanalys av ett antal avfallssystem för insamling och sortering av hushållsavfall från småhus i en kommun. It is a comprehensive and complex decision to invest in a new extended curbside collection and sorting system in a municipality and there are many aspects to consider. Since several previous inquiries regarding this type of decision lacks a systematic approach and clear objectives, the purpose of this study is to develop a method for conducting a systematic multi-criteria analysis of collection and sorting systems for single-family household waste in a municipality. Nessa perspectiva de contribuir na construção de conhecimentos sobre a gestão dos recursos hídricos em bases sustentáveis, esse estudo tem como objetivo geral selecionar, justificar e estruturar sistematicamente indicadores de sustentabilidade que possam representar a realidade hidroambiental dos municípios e apresentar cenários que facilitem a tomada de decisão, através da análise multicriterial e multidecisor. Os municípios que compõem o alto curso do Rio Mamanguape apresentam semelhanças, quanto a aspectos históricos, econômicos, ambientais e sociais, possibilitando compara-los. Para isso foi selecionado um grupo de indicadores que representassem quatro dimensões da sustentabilidade: ambiental, social, econômica e institucional, subdivididos em 15 dimensões e 27 indicadores. Visando validar os indicadores um grupo de decisores (que inclui professores da área de recursos hídricos, secretários dos municípios estudados, responsáveis pelo comitê de bacia litoral norte e participantes do projeto Rio Mamanguape) atribuíram pesos aos indicadores e as dimensões da sustentabilidade selecionados. A análise dos dados foi realizada pelo método PHOMETHEE II e pelo COPELAND, que são análises multicriteriais, sendo o último multidecisor. Os principais resultados encontrados mostraram que as dimensões ambientais e sociais são consideradas as mais relevantes, na opinião dos decisores. Sendo essas as que mais apresentam problemas, como falta de saneamento básico, altos índices de mortalidade infantil, alto potencial de contaminação etc. No entanto, a dimensão econômica, no que se refere a geração de renda, precisa ser fortalecida, constatado os altos índices de pessoas de baixa renda e a falta de utilização das potencialidades locais, de maneira adequada, na geração e distribuição de recursos econômicos. Assim como são necessárias mudanças na dimensão institucional que sirva para melhorar as políticas públicas a serem desenvolvidas e a gestão dos recursos hídricos, que inclui de forma urgente, a representação no comitê de bacia e a inserção do conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável nas ações empreendidas. No que se refere ao ranking dos municípios Alagoa Grande, Esperança e Lagoa Seca são os municípios de melhor performance. No entanto, os municípios, incluindo os que alcançaram melhor posicionamento no ranking precisam investir e desenvolver políticas públicas que melhore seus índices, sobretudo nas áreas ambientais e sociais que são aquelas priorizadas pelos atores sociais e que apresentam maiores problemas. Faced with the environmental problem that involves the scarcity of hydric resources in sufficient quantity and desired quality to meet human needs, together with the necessity to protect these resources for future generations, along with the preservation of ecosystems, humanity seeks new development models that are sustainable, where the management of these natural resources be more democratic and with long-term. In this perspective of contributing to the construction of knowledge on the management of hydric resources on a sustainable basis, this study has as general objective to rank the Mamanguape River counties based on their hydro-environmental sustainability and to present scenarios that facilitate decision making through multi-criteria and multi-decisor analysis. The counties that make up the high course of the Mamanguape River present similarities, in terms of historical, economic, environmental and social aspects, making it possible to compare them. For this purpose, was selected a set of indicators that represented four dimensions of sustainability: environmental, social, economic and institutional, subdivided into 15 dimensions and 27 indicators. Aiming to validate the indicators, a group of decision makers (including hydric resource teachers, secretaries of the counties studied, responsible for the northern coast basin committee and participants in the Rio Mamanguape project) assigned weights to selected indicators and sustainability dimensions. Data analysis was performed using the PHOMETHEE II and COPELAND methods, which are multi-criteria analysis, being the last multi-decisor. The main results showed that the environmental and social dimensions are considered the most relevant, in decision maker's opinion. These are the ones that present the most problems, such as lack of basic sanitation, high rates of infant mortality, high potential for contamination, etc. However, the economic dimension, in terms of income generation, needs to be strengthened, noting the high rates of low-income people and the lack of use of local potential adequately in the generation and distribution of economic resources. Just as changes in the institutional dimension are needed to improve the public policies to be developed and the management of hydric resources, which includes, as a matter of urgency, representation in the basin committee and the insertion of the concept of sustainable development in the actions undertaken. Regarding the ranking of counties Alagoa Grande, Esperança and Lagoa Seca are the municipalities with the best performance. Thus, municipalities, including those that have achieved better ranking, need to invest and develop public policies that improve their indexes, especially in the environmental and social areas that are those prioritized by social actors and that present major problems.

När avfallssystem ska utvärderas och jämföras är det essentiellt att de bedöms inom dessa kriterier och indikatorer för att skapa bra underlag inför valet av system. Studien har kunnat belysa att det i nuläget finns en hel del osäkerheter inom områdena Etablerbarhet & flexibilitet samt Miljöpåverkan från energianvändning i drift som försvårar bedömning av system inom kriterierna. Även vissa avfallssystem saknas tillräcklig kunskap om som krävs för att kunna göra en rättvis bedömning av systemen, mycket till följd av att de är oetablerade i Sverige. The developed multi-criteria analysis has been transferred to a user-friendly tool for decision makers at municipalities who wish to assess and compare extended collection and sorting systems for single-family household waste. The study has resulted in the following criteria which should be considered in an inquiry of waste systems for single-family houses in a municipality, where resource efficiency is highly prioritized: Establishment & flexibility Environmental impact from usage of materiel Customer perspective Working standards Environmental impact from energy usage during operation Collection results Economy These criteria have been divided into smaller components, called indicators. When assessing and comparing waste systems, it is essential to evaluate systems within these criteria and indicators to ensure a thorough basis for this type of decision. The study has been able to highlight some lack of knowledge within the criteria Establishment & flexibility and Environmental impact from energy usage during operation, which complicates the assessment of waste systems within these areas. Sufficient knowledge regarding some waste systems are also missing, most likely due to the systems not being used in Sweden.

International audience; A suite of models is proposed for estimating the risk of pesticides against the grey partridge (Perdix perdix) and their clutches. Radio-tracked data of females, description and location of the clutches, and data on the pesticide treatments during the laying periods of the partridges were used as basic information. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) and quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) modelling allowed us to characterize the pesticides by their 1-octanol/water partition coefficient (log P), vapour pressure, primary and ultimate biodegradation potential, acute toxicity (LD50) on P. perdix, and endocrine disruption potential. From these physicochemical and toxicological data, the system of integration of risk with interaction of scores (SIRIS) method was used to design scores of risk for pesticides, alone or in mixture. A program, written in R (version 3.1.1), called Simulation of Toxicity in Perdix perdix (SimToxPP), was designed for estimating the risk of substances, considered alone or in mixture, against the grey partridge during breeding. The software tool is flexible enough to simulate realistic in situ scenarios. Different examples of applications are shown. The advantages and limitations of the approach are briefly discussed.

Electricity generation via renewable sources is emerging as a possible solution to meet the growing demand for electricity worldwide. Additionally, the need to produce clean energy, with little or no pollutants or greenhouse gas emission is paramount. Due to these factors, wind farms are noticeably increasing in number, especially in Brazil. However, the vast size of the country and the poor quality of its infrastructure are among several factors that make it difficult for effective decision-making to accelerate the growth of this segment in Brazil. With the purpose of assisting government agencies, regulatory agencies and other institutions in this area, the use of a multi-criteria selection method called the analytic hierarchy process is proposed here to assist in decision-making and to select priority regions for implementing wind farms. This work focuses on a case study of the state of Bahia, in which 27 territories were selected for an installation priority evaluation. Computational tools were used to hierarchize these chosen territories, including Matlab, for the construction of the computational algorithm. The results indicate the priority pf the regions according to the established criteria, which allows installation locations to be mapped—these could serve as a basis for regional investment. International audience; France comprises 10,000 km of river levees. Those levees show highly variable performances caused by the various types of design and construction, age, environment, loadings, and maintenance and repair works performed on them. Available information on levees also varies in quality and most often proves to be incomplete, uncertain, or imprecise. Based on this, a method for providing a quantitative evaluation of levee performance is suggested. Such a method, based on a multicriteria decision-making model and subjective probabilities, takes all available pieces of information into account—design, construction, visual inspections, and geophysical and geotechnical investigations—and reckons them with the level of uncertainty of the available data. This method provides decision-making support in identifying the least efficient sections and setting up investigation and maintenance programs.

A Gestão de Portfólio de produtos vem atraindo interesse dos gestores das corporações e deste modo, é difícil encontrar alguma organização que não possua uma carteira de produtos e projetos para gerenciar. A Gestão de Portfólio trata das decisões de alocação de recursos e de como ficará a carteira dos produtos atuais, sendo uma ferramenta de extrema importância para o resultado, principalmente financeiro, das organizações. Encontram-se vários métodos na literatura para realizar a Gestão do Portfólio, dentre os quais modelos financeiros, modelos probabilísticos financeiros, modelos de escores e checklists, abordagens de hierarquia analítica, abordagens comportamentais e abordagens de mapas ou diagrama de bolhas são os mais relevantes. Mesmo existindo diversos métodos na literatura para realizar a gestão do portfólio, não há consenso sobre qual método deve ser utilizado em cada etapa específica. Esses métodos também necessitam de intervenção dos gestores, levando em consideração que geralmente as informações disponíveis para tomada de decisão não são completas ou exatas. Para este estudo, foi realizado um estudo de simulação Monte Carlo para avaliar a sensibilidade dos diversos elementos que compõem o método. Os resultados mostraram taxas de alarmes falsos e tempo médio para detectar a mudança semelhantes a estudos anteriores. Esse processo de gestão e tomada de decisão é considerado complexo para os gestores das empresas, uma vez que o portfólio necessita ser periodicamente revisado, buscando sempre maximização de valor e equilíbrio ideal de produtos no mercado. Por fim, a aplicação do modelo é ilustrada por um caso real, utilizando dados fornecidos por uma empresa multinacional do segmento agrícola. Product Portfolio Management is attracting the interest of the managers of the corporations. With the competitiveness of the market, it is difficult to find an organization that does not have a portfolio of products to manage. The Portfolio Management deals with resource allocation decisions and how will the portfolio of current products be compouse, being an extremely important tool for the result, especially financial, for the organizations. This process of management and decision making is considered complex to company managers, since the portfolio needs to be periodically revised, always seeking to maximize value and correct balance of products on the market. There are several methods in the literature to perform portfolio management, among which financial models, financial probabilistic models, scores and checklists models, analytical hierarchy of approaches, behavioral approaches and approaches map or diagram bubbles are the most relevant. While there are several methods in the literature to make the portfolio management, there is no consensus about which method should be used in each specific step. These methods also require the intervention of managers, taking into account that generally available information for decision-making are not complete or accurate. This paper aims to propose a method, which, through a multi-criteria system containing an econometric model, identifies changes in the economic environment and business indicators and then, from the profile monitoring, can set the exacly time for change portfolio of products. We performed the Monte Carlo simulation study to assess the sensitivity of the various parts that make up the method. The results showed false alarm rate and mean time to detect changes similar to previous studies. Finally, the application of the model is illustrated by a real case using data provided by a multinational company, agricultural segment.

V diplomski nalogi smo predstavili večkriterijski model dveh možnosti, ki rešujeta težavo slabega stanja Zadružnega doma Ig. Prva možnost, ki smo jo predlagali, je celovita prenovitev predvidenega objekta, kot drugo možnost smo obravnavali nadomestno gradnjo podobnega objekta. Za obe možnosti smo poleg stroška del v večkriterijskem modelu upoštevali tudi trajanje del in uporabnost obeh možnosti. V zaključku naloge smo predlagali možnost, ki je najugodnejša. In this diploma paper we present a multi-criteria method of two possibilities how to deal with a bad shape of the cooperative building in Ig (Zadružni dom Ig). As the first possible solution we suggest a full restoration of the building and as the second we consider a total substitute construction of the building. For both approaches mentioned above we have taken into consideration besides working costs also the duration of reconstruction and the functionality of both possibilities. In the closure of the paper we recommend the possibility that is most favourable.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo propor uma solução multicritério para a problemática de escolha múltipla dentro do mesmo problema decisório, partindo da hipótese de que as n melhores alternativas em uma ordenação não são necessariamente o melhor conjunto de n alternativas. Por meio de uma pesquisa experimental, simula-se um problema de recrutamento, onde se deseja escolher três candidatos entre dez. O MEM – Multiplex Electionis Methodus – oferece uma solução para esse problema partindo da modelagem tradicional dos problemas decisórios, com matriz de pagamentos e vetor de pesos, e agregando uma matriz de complementaridade entre critérios. Os resultados apontam que a melhor opção tripla não são as três opções melhores colocadas em uma ordenação simples e cumpre-se o objetivo do trabalho ao confirmar a hipótese declarada, contrariando a decisão intuitiva de admitir que as n primeiras alternativas são o melhor conjunto de n alternativas. This research paper aims to propose a multicriteria solution to the multiple-choice problematic within the same decision problem, based on the hypothesis that the ‘n’ best alternatives in a ranking listing are not necessarily the best set of ‘n’ alternatives. Through experimental research, a recruiting problem where three candidates should be chosen from a set of ten is simulated. MEM - Multiplex Electionis Methodus – offers a solution to this problem starting from the traditional modeling of the decision problems, with a payment matrix and weights vector, and aggregating a matrix of complementarity among criteria. The results show that the best triple set is not the set of the three best ranked options in a simple ranking list, thus fulfilling the research paper’s objective by confirming the stated hypothesis, thereby contradicting the intuitive decision based on the assumption that the ‘n’ first alternatives compose the best set of ‘n’ alternatives.

The leading role in the decision-making process is generally assigned to the decision maker who evaluates the various alternatives and ranks them. In some circumstances the decision is based on the use of different types of information often affected by uncertainty; thus the decision maker is not able to produce all the information necessary to make a strictly rational choice. In many cases the information can be expressed only by using linguistic labels, e.g. “very low”, “medium”, “high”, “fair”, “very high”, etc. It is not easy to precisely quantify the rating of each alternative and precision-based methods are often inadequate. Vagueness results when language is used, whether professional or not, to describe the observation or to measure the result of an experiment. This happens particularly when it is necessary to work with experts’ opinions which are translated into linguistic expressions. The use of fuzzy set theory has yielded very good results for modelling qualitative information because of their ability to handle the impreciseness that is common in rating alternatives. In this chapter a modified multicriteria method (F-PROMETHEE) that uses fuzzy sets is proposed to handle linguistic information in comparing a set of solar energy technologies using only linguistic variables.

The selection of Information Systems using multicriteria methods is a process discussed by severalauthors in the literature. However, this information is scattered and often present an isolated and specificanalysis. This article presents a compilation of 33 articles in the literature, providing the reader with areference with an overview on this topic. The articles were selected with the help of search engines availableon the bases Scopus, ISI, and Engineering Village, accessed through the CAPES periodicals portal. The surveyresults indicate a continuous growth in the number of articles published in the current decade, and the largestnumber of publications were conducted by authors affiliated to institutions located in Turkey and Taiwan,as well as the most used multicriteria method was AHP. Based on this survey, we can also conclude that thelargest number of multicriteria methods applications for the selection of Information Systems occurred forintegrated systems. A seleção de Sistemas de Informação(SIs) utilizando métodos multicritério é um processo discutido por vários autores na literatura. No entanto, estas informações estão dispersas e, geralmente, apresentam uma análise isolada e específica. O presente artigo apresenta uma compilação de 33 artigos encontrados na literatura, fornecendo ao leitor um referencial com uma visão global sobre este tema. Os artigos foram selecionados com o apoio dos motores de busca disponibilizados nas bases Scopus, ISI e Engineering Village, acessados via portal de periódicos CAPES. Os resultados da pesquisa indicam um contínuo crescimento do número de artigos publicados na década atual, sendo que o maior número de publicações foram realizadas por autores afiliados a instituições localizadas na Turquia e Taiwan, assim como o método multicritério mais utilizado foi o AHP. Com base na pesquisa realizada, também concluiu-se que o maior número de aplicações de métodos multicritério para a seleção de SIs, ocorreu para os sistemas integrados.

A hybrid model, combining influence diagrams and a multicriteria method, is presented in order to assist with the decision making process about which questions would be more attractive to the definition of the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, considering the stages of Clinical Dementia Rating. The modeling and evaluation processes were carried out through a battery of standardized assessments for the evaluation of cases with Alzheimer’s disease developed by Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer’s disease.

International audience; Nowadays, stormwater infiltration systems are frequently used because of their ability to reduce flows and volumes in downstream sewers, decrease overflows in surface waters and make it possible to recharge groundwater. Moreover, they come in various forms with different uses. Despite these advantages the long term sustainability of these systems is questionable and their real performances have to be assessed taking into account various and sometimes conflicting aspects. To address this problem a decision support system is proposed. It is based on a multicriteria method built to help managers to evaluate the performance of an existing infiltration system at different stages of its lifespan and identify whether it performs correctly or not, according to environmental, socio-economic, technical and sanitary aspects. The paper presents successively: the performance indicators and the way they were built, the multicriteria method to identify if the system works properly and a case study.

International audience; The work presented in this paper is related to the area of situational method engineering (SME). In this domain, approaches are developed accordingly to specific project specifications. We propose to adapt an existing method construction process, namely the assembly-based one. One of the particular features of assembly-based SME approach is the selection of method chunks. Our proposal is to offer a better guidance in the retrieval of chunks by the introduction of multicriteria techniques. To use them efficiently, we defined a typology of projects characteristics, in order to identify all their critical aspects, which will offer a priorisation to help the method engineer in the choice between similar chunks.

PurposeThis paper aims to present and assess the EU energy policies regarding their dependence on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) implications and the level of complexity of the applied ICT implications using the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity of Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. The used criteria have been retrieved from the official “ICT Implication Assessment method of EU Legislation”.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology approach deals with the ranking representation of EU energy policies according to the ICT exploitation. The data for the study were collected from the official website of the European Union (EU) (www.europa.eu). According to these data, the subtopics of the EU energy policies regard the internal energy market, the European energy policy, the energy efficiency, the nuclear energy, the security of energy supply, the external dimension, the enlargement and the renewable energy sources. The EU energy policies were assessed using the TOPSIS multicriteria analysis. The TOPSIS is widely used to solve real-world decision-making problems due to its characteristic to deal with different information types.FindingsAccording to the results of the research, the EU energy policies achieve a good level of dependence on ICT implications and of complexity of the applied ICT implications but not the optimum. However, EU policy-makers should take into account the ICT factors while updating an existing one or while designing a new energy policy. The results of this research can provide an overview of the current situation regarding the current legislation while moving toward a sustainable eEurope. There is a need for stronger incubation efforts for a wide range of innovations to be ready in due time.Originality/valueThis is the first time that EU energy policies are presented and assessed regarding their dependence on ICT implications and the level of complexity of the applied ICT implications using the TOPSIS method.
