Waveform models are important to gravitational wave data analysis. People recently pay much attention to the waveform model construction for eccentric binary black hole coalescence. Several Effective-One-Body Numerical-Relativity waveform models of eccentric binary black hole coalescence have been constructed. But none of them can treat orbit eccentricity and spin-precessing simultaneously. The current paper focuses on this problem. The authors previously have constructed waveform model for spin-aligned eccentric binary black hole coalescence $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$. Here we extend such waveform model to describe eccentric spin-precessing binary black hole coalescence. We calculate the 2PN orbital radiation-reaction forces and the instantaneous part of the decomposed waveform for a general spinning precessing binary black hole system in effective-one-body (EOB) coordinates. We implement these results based on our previous $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$ waveform model. We have also compared our model waveforms to both SXS and RIT numerical relativity waveforms. We find good consistency between our model and numerical relativity. Based on our new waveform model, we analyze the impact of the non-perpendicular spin contributions on waveform accuracy. We find that the non-perpendicular spin contributions primarily affect the phase of the gravitational waveforms. For the current gravitational wave detectors, this contribution is not significant. The future detectors may be affected by such non perpendicular spin contributions. More importantly our $\texttt{SEOBNRE}$ waveform model, as the first theoretical waveform model to describe eccentric spin-precessing binary black hole coalescence, can help people to analyze orbit eccentricity and spin precession simultaneously for gravitational wave detection data., Comment: 19 pages,12 figures

In the frequency band of Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA), extensive research has been conducted on the impact of foreground confusion noise generated by galactic binaries within the Milky Way galaxy. Additionally, the recent evidence for a stochastic signal, announced by the NANOGrav, EPTA, PPTA, CPTA and InPTA, indicates that the stochastic gravitational-wave background generated by supermassive black hole binaries (SMBHBs) can contribute a strong background noise within in LISA band. Given the presence of such strong noise, it is expected to have a considerable impacts on LISA's scientific missions. In this work, we investigate the impacts of the SGWB generated by SMBHBs on the detection of massive black hole binaries (MBHBs), verified galactic binaries (VGBs) and extreme mass ratio inspirals (EMRIs) in the context of LISA, and find it crucial to resolve and eliminate the exceed noise from the SGWB to ensure the success of LISA's missions., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

We derive the bolometric luminosities ($L_{\mathrm{bol}}$) of 865 field-age and 189 young ultracool dwarfs (spectral types M6-T9, including 40 new discoveries presented here) by directly integrating flux-calibrated optical to mid-IR spectral energy distributions (SEDs). The SEDs consist of low-resolution ($R\sim$ 150) near-IR (0.8-2.5 $\mu$m) spectra (including new spectra for 97 objects), optical photometry from the Pan-STARRS1 survey, and mid-IR photometry from the CatWISE2020 survey and Spitzer/IRAC. Our $L_{\mathrm{bol}}$ calculations benefit from recent advances in parallaxes from Gaia, Spitzer, and UKIRT, as well as new parallaxes for 19 objects from CFHT and Pan-STARRS1 presented here. Coupling our $L_{\mathrm{bol}}$ measurements with a new uniform age analysis for all objects, we estimate substellar masses, radii, surface gravities, and effective temperatures ($T_{\mathrm{eff}}$) using evolutionary models. We construct empirical relationships for $L_{\mathrm{bol}}$ and $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$ as functions of spectral type and absolute magnitude, determine bolometric corrections in optical and infrared bandpasses, and study the correlation between evolutionary model-derived surface gravities and near-IR gravity classes. Our sample enables a detailed characterization of BT-Settl and ATMO 2020 atmospheric model systematics as a function of spectral type and position in the near-IR color-magnitude diagram. We find the greatest discrepancies between atmospheric and evolutionary model-derived $T_{\mathrm{eff}}$ (up to 800 K) and radii (up to 2.0 $R_{\mathrm{Jup}}$) at the M/L transition boundary. AF Lep A+b is a remarkable planetary system hosting a gas-giant planet that has the lowest dynamical mass among directly imaged exoplanets. We present an in-depth analysis of the atmospheric composition of the star and planet to probe the planet's formation pathway. Based on new high-resolution spectroscopy of AF Lep A, we measure a uniform set of stellar parameters and elemental abundances (e.g., [Fe/H] = $-0.27 \pm 0.31$ dex). The planet's dynamical mass ($2.8^{+0.6}_{-0.5}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$) and orbit are also refined using published radial velocities, relative astrometry, and absolute astrometry. We use petitRADTRANS to perform chemically-consistent atmospheric retrievals for AF Lep b. The radiative-convective equilibrium temperature profiles are incorporated as parameterized priors on the planet's thermal structure, leading to a robust characterization for cloudy self-luminous atmospheres. This novel approach is enabled by constraining the temperature-pressure profiles via the temperature gradient $(d\ln{T}/d\ln{P})$, a departure from previous studies that solely modeled the temperature. Through multiple retrievals performed on different portions of the $0.9-4.2$ $\mu$m spectrophotometry, along with different priors on the planet's mass and radius, we infer that AF Lep b likely possesses a metal-enriched atmosphere ([Fe/H] $> 1.0$ dex). AF Lep b's potential metal enrichment may be due to planetesimal accretion, giant impacts, and/or core erosion. The first process coincides with the debris disk in the system, which could be dynamically excited by AF Lep b and lead to planetesimal bombardment. Our analysis also determines $T_{\rm eff} \approx 800$ K, $\log{(g)} \approx 3.7$ dex, and the presence of silicate clouds and dis-equilibrium chemistry in the atmosphere. The detection of Extreme Mass Ratio Inspirals (EMRIs) is intricate due to their complex waveforms, extended duration, and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), making them more challenging to be identified compared to compact binary coalescences. While matched filtering-based techniques are known for their computational demands, existing deep learning-based methods primarily handle time-domain data and are often constrained by data duration and SNR. In addition, most existing work ignores time-delay interferometry (TDI) and applies the long-wavelength approximation in detector response calculations, thus limiting their ability to handle laser frequency noise. In this study, we introduce DECODE, an end-to-end model focusing on EMRI signal detection by sequence modeling in the frequency domain. Centered around a dilated causal convolutional neural network, trained on synthetic data considering TDI-1.5 detector response, DECODE can efficiently process a year's worth of multichannel TDI data with an SNR of around 50. We evaluate our model on 1-year data with accumulated SNR ranging from 50 to 120 and achieve a true positive rate of 96.3% at a false positive rate of 1%, keeping an inference time of less than 0.01 seconds. In this work, we explore the effects of surrounding dark matter featuring different equations of state on the axial gravitational quasinormal modes of supermassive black holes situated at the center of galaxies. Our attention primarily rests on dark matter exhibiting a spike structure, originating from relativistic Bondi accretion through an adiabatic process, which diminishes at a certain distance from the black hole. We analyze how varying the equation of state of the dark matter influences the properties of the spacetime in the black hole's vicinity. Our findings reveal that different states of dark matter spikes correspondingly affect the black hole's quasinormal modes. In particular, we identify deviations in both the ringing frequency and damping time, reaching magnitudes of up to $10^{-3}$ for certain parameter values. These variations can potentially be detected by upcoming space-borne detectors. Our findings thus indicate the feasibility of discerning and limiting the essential properties of dark matter surrounding supermassive black holes using future gravitational wave detections, particularly in the case of extreme mass ratio inspiral systems., Comment: 23 pages, 6 figures, 1 table

Massive black holes (MBHs) are crucial in shaping their host galaxies. How the MBH co-evolves with its host galaxy is a pressing problem in astrophysics and cosmology. The valuable information carried by the binary MBH is encoded in the gravitational waves (GWs), which will be detectable by the space-borne GW detector LISA. In the GW data analysis, usually, only the dominant $(2,2)$ mode of the GW signal is considered in the parameter estimation for LISA. However, including the higher harmonics in parameter estimation can break the degeneracy between the parameters, especially for the inclination angle and luminosity distance. This may enable the identification of GW signals without electromagnetic counterparts, known as ''dark sirens''. Thus, incorporating higher harmonics will be beneficial to resolve the Hubble tension and constrain the cosmological model. In this paper, we investigate the role of higher harmonics in the parameter estimation for GWs emitted by binary MBHs. We demonstrate that including $(3,3)$ mode can lead to a $10^3$-times improvement in angular resolution and a $10^4$-times improvement in luminosity distance. Meanwhile, our results indicate that considering higher harmonics increases the probability of identifying over 70% host galaxies from $10^{-2}\,\rm{Gpc}^3$ cosmological volume threshold (corresponding $10^5$ host galaxies), while the probability less than 8% for only the $(2,2)$ mode. Non-communicable disease is the leading cause of death, emphasizing the need for accurate prediction of disease progression and informed clinical decision-making. Machine learning (ML) models have shown promise in this domain by capturing non-linear patterns within patient features. However, existing ML-based models cannot provide causal interpretable predictions and estimate treatment effects, limiting their decision-making perspective. In this study, we propose a novel model called causal trajectory prediction (CTP) to tackle the limitation. The CTP model combines trajectory prediction and causal discovery to enable accurate prediction of disease progression trajectories and uncover causal relationships between features. By incorporating a causal graph into the prediction process, CTP ensures that ancestor features are not influenced by the treatment of descendant features, thereby enhancing the interpretability of the model. By estimating the bounds of treatment effects, even in the presence of unmeasured confounders, the CTP provides valuable insights for clinical decision-making. We evaluate the performance of the CTP using simulated and real medical datasets. Experimental results demonstrate that our model achieves satisfactory performance, highlighting its potential to assist clinical decisions. The gravitational constant variation means the breakdown of the strong equivalence principle. As the cornerstone of general relativity, the validity of general relativity can be examined by studying the gravitational constant variation. Such variations have the potential to affect both the generation and propagation of gravitational waves. In this paper, our focus lies on the effect of gravitational constant variation specifically on the propagation of gravitational waves. We employ two analytical methods, namely based on the Fierz-Pauli action and the perturbation of Einstein-Hilbert action around Minkowski spacetime, both leading to the the same gravitational wave equation. By solving this equation, we find the effects of gravitational constant variation on gravitational wave propagation. The result is consistent with previous investigations based on Maxwell-like equations for gravitational waves. Notably, we find that small variations in the gravitational constant result in an amplitude correction at the leading order and a phase correction at the sub-leading order for gravitational waves. These results provide valuable insights for probing gravitational constant variation and can be directly applied to gravitational wave data analysis., Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure

Since the first detection of gravitational waves, they have been used to investigate various fundamental problems, including the variation of physical constants. Regarding the gravitational constant, previous works focused on the effect of the gravitational constant variation on the gravitational wave generation. In this paper, we investigate the effect of the gravitational constant variation on the gravitational wave propagation. The Maxwell-like equation that describes the propagation of gravitational waves is extended in this paper to account for situations where the gravitational constant varies. Based on this equation, we find that the amplitude of gravitational waves will be corrected. Consequently the estimated distance to the gravitational wave source without considering such a correction may be biased. Applying our correction result to the well known binary neutron star coalescence event GW170817, we get a constraint on the variation of the gravitational constant. Relating our result to the Yukawa deviation of gravity, we for the first time get the constraint of the Yukawa parameters in 10Mpc scale. This scale corresponds to a graviton mass $m_g\sim10^{-31}$eV.

Atmospheric escape shapes the fate of exoplanets, with statistical evidence for transformative mass loss imprinted across the mass-radius-insolation distribution. Here we present transit spectroscopy of the highly irradiated, low-gravity, inflated hot Saturn HAT-P-67 b. The Habitable Zone Planet Finder (HPF) spectra show a detection of up to 10% absorption depth of the 10833 Angstrom Helium triplet. The 13.8 hours of on-sky integration time over 39 nights sample the entire planet orbit, uncovering excess Helium absorption preceding the transit by up to 130 planetary radii in a large leading tail. This configuration can be understood as the escaping material overflowing its small Roche lobe and advecting most of the gas into the stellar -- and not planetary -- rest frame, consistent with the Doppler velocity structure seen in the Helium line profiles. The prominent leading tail serves as direct evidence for dayside mass loss with a strong day-/night- side asymmetry. We see some transit-to-transit variability in the line profile, consistent with the interplay of stellar and planetary winds. We employ 1D Parker wind models to estimate the mass loss rate, finding values on the order of $2\times10^{13}$ g/s, with large uncertainties owing to the unknown XUV flux of the F host star. The large mass loss in HAT-P-67 b represents a valuable example of an inflated hot Saturn, a class of planets recently identified to be rare as their atmospheres are predicted to evaporate quickly. Effective one body numerical relativity waveform models for spin aligned binary black holes (SEOBNR) are based on the effective one body theoretical framework and numerical relativity simulation results. SEOBNR models have evolved through version 1 to version 4. We recently extended SEOBNRv1 model to SEOBNRE (Effective One Body Numerical Relativity waveform models for Spin aligned binary black holes along Eccentric orbit) model which is also valid for spin aligned binary black hole coalescence along eccentric orbit. In this paper we update our previous SEOBNRE model to make it consistent to SEOBNRv4 which is the most widely used SEOBNR waveform model. This upgraded SEOBNRE model improves accuracy compared to previous SEOBNRE model, especially for highly spinning black holes. For spin aligned binary black holes with mass ratio $1\leq q\lesssim10$, dimensionless spin $-0.9\lesssim\chi\lesssim0.995$ and orbital eccentricity $0\leq e_0\lesssim0.6$ at reference frequency $Mf_0=0.002$ ($M$ is the total mass of the binary black hole, $f_0\approx 40\frac{10{\rm M}_\odot}{M}$Hz), the upgraded SEOBNRE model can always fit numerical relativity waveform better than 98.2\%. Binary compact objects will be among the important sources for the future space-based gravitational wave detectors. Such binary compact objects include stellar massive binary black hole, binary neutron star, binary white dwarf and mixture of these compact objects. Regarding to the relatively low frequency, the gravitational interaction between the two objects of the binary is weak. Post-Newtonian approximation of general relativity is valid. Previous works about the waveform model for such binaries in the literature consider the dynamics for specific situations which involve detailed complicated matter dynamics between the two objects. We here take a different idea. We adopt the trick used in pulsar timing detection. For any gravity theories and any detailed complicated matter dynamics, the motion of the binary can always be described as a post-Keplerian expansion. And a post-Keplerian gravitational waveform model will be reduced. Instead of object masses, spins, matter's equation of state parameters and dynamical parameters beyond general relativity, the involved parameters in our post-Keplerian waveform model are the Keplerian orbit elements and their adiabatic variations. Respect to current planning space-based gravitational wave detectors including LISA, Taiji and Tianqin, we find that the involved waveform model parameters can be well determined. And consequently the detail matter dynamics of the binary can be studied then. The Gibbons-Werner (GW) method is a powerful approach in studying the gravitational deflection of particles moving in curved spacetimes. The application of the Gauss-Bonnet theorem (GBT) to integral regions constructed in a two-dimensional manifold enables the deflection angle to be expressed and calculated from the perspective of geometry. However, different techniques are required for different scenarios in the practical implementation which leads to different GW methods. For the GW method for stationary axially symmetric (SAS) spacetimes, we identify two problems: (a) the integral region is generally infinite, which is ill-defined for some asymptotically nonflat spacetimes whose metric possesses singular behavior, and (b) the intricate double and single integrals bring about complicated calculation, especially for highly accurate results and complex spacetimes. To address these issues, a generalized GW method is proposed in which the infinite region is replaced by a flexible region to avoid the singularity, and a simplified formula involving only a single integral of a simple integrand is derived by discovering a significant relationship between the integrals in conventional methods. Our method provides a comprehensive framework for describing the GW method for various scenarios. Additionally, the generalized GW method and simplified calculation formula are applied to three different kinds of spacetimes--Kerr spacetime, Kerr-like black hole in bumblebee gravity, and rotating solution in conformal Weyl gravity. The first two cases have been previously computed by other researchers, affirming the effectiveness and superiority of our approach. Remarkably, the third case is newly examined, yielding an innovative result for the first time.

Capturing planets in the act of losing their atmospheres provides rare opportunities to probe their evolution history. Such analysis has been enabled by observations of the helium triplet at 10833 \AA, but past studies have focused on the narrow time window right around the planet's optical transit. We monitored the hot Jupiter HAT-P-32 b using high-resolution spectroscopy from the Hobby-Eberly Telescope covering the planet's full orbit. We detected helium escaping HAT-P-32 b at a $14\sigma$ significance, with extended leading and trailing tails spanning a projected length over 53 times the planet's radius. These tails are among the largest known structures associated with an exoplanet. We interpret our observations using three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations, which predict Roche Lobe overflow with extended tails along the planet's orbital path., Comment: Accepted by Science Advances

Policy learning (PL) is a module of a task-oriented dialogue system that trains an agent to make actions in each dialogue turn. Imitating human action is a fundamental problem of PL. However, both supervised learning (SL) and reinforcement learning (RL) frameworks cannot imitate humans well. Training RL models require online interactions with user simulators, while simulating complex human policy is hard. Performances of SL-based models are restricted because of the covariate shift problem. Specifically, a dialogue is a sequential decision-making process where slight differences in current utterances and actions will cause significant differences in subsequent utterances. Therefore, the generalize ability of SL models is restricted because statistical characteristics of training and testing dialogue data gradually become different. This study proposed an offline imitation learning model that learns policy from real dialogue datasets and does not require user simulators. It also utilizes state transition information, which alleviates the influence of the covariate shift problem. We introduced a regularization trick to make our model can be effectively optimized. We investigated the performance of our model on four independent public dialogue datasets. The experimental result showed that our model performed better in the action prediction task.

Low-mass stars and sub-stellar objects are essential in tracing the initial mass function (IMF). We study the nearby young $\sigma$ Orionis cluster (d$\sim$408 pc; age$\sim$1.8 Myr) using deep NIR photometric data in J, W and H-bands from WIRCam on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. We use the water absorption feature to photometrically select the brown dwarfs and confirm their nature spectroscopically with the IRTF-SpeX. Additionally we select candidate low-mass stars for spectroscopy and analyze their membership and that of literature sources using astrometry from Gaia DR3. We obtain the near-IR spectra for 28 very low-mass stars and brown dwarfs and estimate their spectral type between M3-M8.5 (mass ranging between 0.3-0.01 M$_{\odot}$). Apart from these, we also identify 5 new planetary mass candidates which require further spectroscopic confirmation of youth. We compile the comprehensive catalog of 170 spectroscopically confirmed members in the central region of the cluster, for a wide mass range of $\sim$19-0.004 M$_{\odot}$. We estimate the star/BD ratio to be $\sim$4, within the range reported for other nearby star forming regions. With the updated catalog of members we trace the IMF down to 4 M$_\mathrm{Jup}$ and we find that a two-segment power-law fits the sub-stellar IMF better than the log-normal distribution., Comment: Accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal (ApJ). 27 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables

Supermassive black holes at the center of each galaxy may be surrounded by dark matter. Such dark matter admits a spike structure and vanishes at a certain distance from the black hole. This dark matter will impact the spacetime near the black hole and the related ringing gravitational waves can show distinguished features of the black hole without dark matter. In the present work, we focus on the quasi-normal modes of the axial gravitational perturbation who dominate the ringdown process of the perturbed black holes surrounded by dark matter spikes. The relativistic modification results in less impact on QNMs. And the relative ringing frequency difference between the black holes with and without dark matter can be as large as $10^{-2}$. These features can be used in future gravitational wave detection about extremal mass ratio inspiral systems to probe the existence of dark matter around supermassive black holes., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, 4 tables

The formation mechanism of AM CVn binary has not been well understood yet. Accurate measurements of the mass transfer rate can help to determine the formation mechanism. But unfortunately such observation by electromagnetic means is quite challenging. One possible formation channel of AM CVn binary is a semi-detached white dwarf binary. Such system emits strong gravitational wave radiation which could be measured by the future space-based detectors. We can simultaneously extract the mass transfer rate and the orbital period from the gravitational wave signal. We employ a post-Keplerian waveform model of gravitational wave and carry out a Fisher analysis to estimate the measurement accuracy of mass transfer rate through gravitational wave detection. Special attention is paid to the observed sources in Gaia Data Release 2. We found that we can accurately measure the mass transfer rate for those systems. Comparing to electromagnetic observations, gravitational wave detection improves the accuracy more than two orders of magnitude. Our results imply that the gravitational wave detection will help much in understanding the formation mechanism of AM CVn binaries.

Recently there are more and more interest on the gravitational wave of moving sources. This introduces a Lorentz transformation problem of gravitational wave. Although Bondi-Metzner-Sachs (BMS) theory has in principle already included the Lorentz transformation of gravitational wave, the transformation of the three dimensional gravitational wave tensor has not been explicitly calculated before. Within four dimensional spacetime, gravitational wave have property of `boost weight zero' and `spin weight 2'. This fact makes the Lorentz transformation of gravitational wave difficult to understand. In the current paper we adopt the traditional three dimensional tensor description of gravitational wave. Such a transverse-traceless tensor describes the gravitational wave freedom directly. We derive the explicit Lorentz transformation of the gravitational wave tensor. The transformation is similar to the Lorentz transformation for electric field vector and magnetic field vector which are three dimensional vectors. Based on the deduced Lorentz transformation of the gravitational wave three dimensional tensor, we can construct the gravitational waveform of moving source with any speed if only the waveform of the corresponding rest waveform is given. As an example, we apply our method to the effect of kick velocity of binary black hole. The adjusted waveform by the kick velocity is presented., Comment: 17 pages, 8 figures

Gravitational wave memory is an important prediction of general relativity. The detection of the gravitational wave memory can be used to test general relativity and to deduce the property of the gravitational wave source. Quantitative model is important for such detection and signal interpretation. Previous works on gravitational wave memory always use the energy flux of gravitational wave to calculate memory. Such relation between gravitational wave energy and memory has only been validated for post-Newtonian approximation. The result of numerical relativity about gravitational wave memory is not confident yet. Accurately calculating memory is highly demanded. Here we propose a new method to calculate the gravitational wave memory. This method is based on Bondi-Metzner-Sachs theory. Consequently our method does not need slow motion and weak field conditions for gravitational wave source. Our new method can accurately calculate memory if the non-memory waveform is known. As an example, we combine our method with matured numerical relativity result about non-memory waveform for binary black hole coalescence. We calculate the waveform for memory which can be used to aid memory detection and gravitational wave source understanding. Our calculation result confirms preliminary numerical relativity result about memory. We find out the dependence of the memory amplitude to the mass ratio and the spins of the two spin aligned black holes., Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures

The orientation between a star's spin axis and a planet's orbital plane provides valuable information about the system's formation and dynamical history. For non-transiting planets at wide separations, true stellar obliquities are challenging to measure, but lower limits on spin-orbit orientations can be determined from the difference between the inclination of the star's rotational axis and the companion's orbital plane ($\Delta i$). We present results of a uniform analysis of rotation periods, stellar inclinations, and obliquities of cool stars (SpT $\gtrsim$ F5) hosting directly imaged planets and brown dwarf companions. As part of this effort, we have acquired new $v \sin i_*$ values for 22 host stars with the high-resolution Tull spectrograph at the Harlan J. Smith telescope. Altogether our sample contains 62 host stars with rotation periods, most of which are newly measured using light curves from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. Among these, 53 stars have inclinations determined from projected rotational and equatorial velocities, and 21 stars predominantly hosting brown dwarfs have constraints on $\Delta i$. Eleven of these (52$^{+10}_{-11}$% of the sample) are likely misaligned, while the remaining ten host stars are consistent with spin-orbit alignment. As an ensemble, the minimum obliquity distribution between 10-250 AU is more consistent with a mixture of isotropic and aligned systems than either extreme scenario alone--pointing to direct cloud collapse, formation within disks bearing primordial alignments and misalignments, or architectures processed by dynamical evolution. This contrasts with stars hosting directly imaged planets, which show a preference for low obliquities. The direct observation of gravitational waves (GWs) opens a new window for exploring new physics from quanta to cosmos and provides a new tool for probing the evolution of universe. GWs detection in space covers a broad spectrum ranging over more than four orders of magnitude and enables us to study rich physical and astronomical phenomena. Taiji is a proposed space-based GW detection mission that will be launched in the 2030s. Taiji will be exposed to numerous overlapping and persistent GW signals buried in the foreground and background, posing various data analysis challenges. In order to empower potential scientific discoveries, the Mock LISA Data Challenge and the LISA Data Challenge (LDC) were developed. While LDC provides a baseline framework, the first LDC needs to be updated with more realistic simulations and adjusted detector responses for Taiji's constellation. In this paper, we review the scientific objectives and the roadmap for Taiji, as well as the technical difficulties in data analysis and the data generation strategy, and present the associated data challenges. In contrast to LDC, we utilize second-order Keplerian orbit and second-generation time delay interferometry techniques. Additionally, we employ a new model for the extreme-mass-ratio inspiral waveform and stochastic GW background spectrum, which enables us to test general relativity and measure the non-Gaussianity of curvature perturbations. Furthermore, we present a comprehensive showcase of parameter estimation using a toy dataset. This showcase not only demonstrates the scientific potential of the Taiji Data Challenge but also serves to validate the effectiveness of the pipeline. With the advent of gravitational-wave astronomy and the discovery of more compact binary coalescences, data quality improvement techniques are desired to handle the complex and overwhelming noise in gravitational wave (GW) observational data. Though recent machine learning-based studies have shown promising results for data denoising, they are unable to precisely recover both the GW signal amplitude and phase. To address such an issue, we develop a deep neural network centered workflow, WaveFormer, for significant noise suppression and signal recovery on observational data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). The WaveFormer has a science-driven architecture design with hierarchical feature extraction across a broad frequency spectrum. As a result, the overall noise and glitch are decreased by more than one order of magnitude and the signal recovery error is roughly 1% and 7% for the phase and amplitude, respectively. Moreover, on 75 reported binary black hole (BBH) events of LIGO we obtain a significant improvement of inverse false alarm rate. Our work highlights the potential of large neural networks in gravitational wave data analysis and, while primarily demonstrated on LIGO data, its adaptable design indicates promise for broader application within the International Gravitational-Wave Observatories Network (IGWN) in future observational runs.

Eccentricity of compact binaries can improve the parameter estimation of gravitational waves (GWs). In this paper, we first investigate the parameter estimation of eccentric GWs with decihertz observatory. We consider two scenarios for the configuration of DECIGO, i.e., the one cluster of DECIGO with its design sensitivity and B-DECIGO which also has one cluster but with inferior sensitivity as a comparison. We adopt the Fisher matrix to estimate the parameter errors. By mocking up the typical binaries in GWTC-3, we find a nonvanishing eccentricity can significantly improve the estimation for almost all waveform parameters. In particular, the localization of typical binary black holes (BBH) can achieve $\mathcal{O}(10-10^{3.5})$ factors of improvement when the initial eccentricity $e_0=0.4$ at 0.1 Hz. The precise localization of binary neutron stars (BNS) and neutron star--black hole binaries (NSBH), together with the large improvement of localization of BBH from eccentricity in the mid-band, inspire us to construct the catalogs of golden dark sirens whose host galaxies can be uniquely identified. We find that with only one cluster of DECIGO running 1 year in its design sensitivity, hundreds of golden dark BNS, NSBH, and tens of golden dark BBH can be observed. Eccentricity can greatly increase the population of golden dark BBH from $\sim 7~(e_0=0)$ to $\sim 65~(e_0=0.2)$. Such an increase of population of golden dark BBH events can improve the precision of Hubble constant measurement from 2.06\% to 0.68\%, matter density parameter from 64\% to 16\% in $\Lambda$CDM model. Through the phenomenological parameterization of GW propagation, the constraints of modified gravity can be improved from 6.2\% to 1.6\%. A rotating black hole in loop quantum gravity was constructed by Brahma, Chen, and Yeom based on a nonrotating counterpart using the revised Newman-Janis algorithm recently. For such spacetime, we investigate the weak gravitational deflection of massive particles to explore observational effects of the quantum correction. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, for Gibbons-Werner (GW) method, a geometric approach computing the deflection angle of particles in curved spacetimes, we refine its calculation and obtain a simplified formula. Second, by using GW method and our new formula, we work out the finite-distance weak deflection angle of massive particles for the rotating black hole in loop quantum gravity obtained by Brahma $et\ al.$ An analysis to our result reveals the repulsive effect of the quantum correction to particles. What's more, an observational constraint on the quantum parameter is obtained in solar system.

The Gibbons-Werner method for the gravitational deflection angle of unbound particles in static spherically symmetric spacetimes is based on Jacobi metric and Gauss-Bonnet theorem. When it is extended to bound massive particles, there exists two difficulties: (a) Bound orbits may overlap with themselves azimuthally. To extend the definition of deflection angle for unbound orbits to bound orbits, we divide the bound orbit into multiple segments such that each segment does not overlap with itself azimuthally and can be regarded as an unbound orbit. (b) The infinite region constructed for unbound orbits in Gibbons-Werner method is invalid for bound orbits, since the Jacobi metric of bound massive particles is singular at far region. To construct a suitable region for bound orbits, we adopt the generalized Gibbons-Werner method proposed in our last work [Huang and Cao, https://journals.aps.org/prd/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevD.106.104043], so that the unphysical region in Jacobi space is avoided. What's more, taking the Schwarzschild spacetime as an example, we show the details of the calculation and obtain an analytical expression of the deflection angle between two arbitrary points on the orbit.

Quasi-normal modes (QNMs) of a black hole (BH) are the eigen modes describing the dissipative oscillation of various fields in that spacetime, which can be intrinsically produced by the linear perturbation theory. With the discovery of the first gravitational waves (GWs) event, GW150914, a new window into the universe has been opened, allowing for the detection of QNMs associated to the ringdown process, which will enable more accurate measurements of the BHs parameters as well as further testing of general relativity. This article discusses the linear perturbation theory of BHs and provides review of several QNMs calculation methods including the newly developed methods. We will also focus on the connection between QNMs and the detection of GWs as well as some recent advancements in this area.

Benchmark brown dwarf companions with well-determined ages and model-independent masses are powerful tools to test substellar evolutionary models and probe the formation of giant planets and brown dwarfs. Here, we report the independent discovery of HIP~21152~B, the first imaged brown dwarf companion in the Hyades, and conduct a comprehensive orbital and atmospheric characterization of the system. HIP~21152 was targeted in an ongoing high-contrast imaging campaign of stars exhibiting proper motion changes between Hipparcos and Gaia, and was also recently identified by Bonavita et al. (2022) and Kuzuhara et al. (2022). Our Keck/NIRC2 and SCExAO/CHARIS imaging of HIP~21152 revealed a comoving companion at a separation of $0.37^{\prime\prime}$ (16 au). We perform a joint orbit fit of all available relative astrometry and radial velocities together with the Hipparcos-Gaia proper motions, yielding a dynamical mass of $24^{+6}_{-4}\,\mathrm{M_{Jup}}$, which is $1{-}2{\sigma}$ lower than evolutionary model predictions. Hybrid grids that include the evolution of cloud properties best reproduce the dynamical mass. We also identify a comoving wide-separation ($1837^{\prime\prime}$ or $7.9 \times 10^4 \, \mathrm{au}$) early-L dwarf with an inferred mass near the hydrogen-burning limit. Finally, we analyze the spectra and photometry of HIP~21152~B using the Saumon & Marley (2008) atmospheric models and a suite of retrievals. The best-fit grid-based models have $f_{\mathrm{sed}}=2$, indicating the presence of clouds, $T_{\mathrm{eff}}=1400 \, \mathrm{K}$, and $\log{g}=4.5 \, \mathrm{dex}$. These results are consistent with the object's spectral type of $\mathrm{T0\pm1}$. It is well known that energy fluxes will produce gravitational wave memory. The gravitational wave memory produced by background including cosmic microwave background (CMB), cosmic neutrino background (C$\nu$B), and gravitational wave background is investigated in this work. We construct a theory relating the gravitational wave memory strength to the energy flux of a stochastic background. We find that the resulted gravitational wave memory behaves as a constantly varying metric tensor. Such a varying metric tensor will introduce a quadrupole structure to the universe expansion. The gravitational wave memory due to the CMB is too small to be detected. But the gravitational wave memory due to the C$\nu$B and the gravitational wave background is marginally detectable. We present the latest and most precise characterization of the architecture for the ancient ($\approx 11$ Gyr) Kepler-444 system, which is composed of a K0 primary star (Kepler-444 A) hosting five transiting planets, and a tight M-type spectroscopic binary (Kepler-444 BC) with an A-BC projected separation of 66 au. We have measured the system's relative astrometry using the adaptive optics imaging from Keck/NIRC2 and Kepler-444 A's radial velocities from the Hobby Eberly Telescope, and re-analyzed relative radial velocities between BC and A from Keck/HIRES. We also include the Hipparcos-Gaia astrometric acceleration and all published astrometry and radial velocities into an updated orbit analysis of BC's barycenter. These data greatly extend the time baseline of the monitoring and lead to significant updates to BC's barycentric orbit compared to previous work, including a larger semi-major axis ($a = 52.2^{+3.3}_{-2.7}$ au), a smaller eccentricity ($e = 0.55 \pm 0.05$), and a more precise inclination ($i =85.4^{+0.3}_{-0.4}$ degrees). We have also derived the first dynamical masses of B and C components. Our results suggest Kepler-444~A's protoplanetary disk was likely truncated by BC to a radius of $\approx 8$ au, which resolves the previously noticed tension between Kepler-444 A's disk mass and planet masses. Kepler-444 BC's barycentric orbit is likely aligned with those of A's five planets, which might be primordial or a consequence of dynamical evolution. The Kepler-444 system demonstrates that compact multi-planet systems residing in hierarchical stellar triples can form at early epochs of the Universe and survive their secular evolution throughout cosmic time., Comment: AJ in press

We present the results of the first Machine Learning Gravitational-Wave Search Mock Data Challenge (MLGWSC-1). For this challenge, participating groups had to identify gravitational-wave signals from binary black hole mergers of increasing complexity and duration embedded in progressively more realistic noise. The final of the 4 provided datasets contained real noise from the O3a observing run and signals up to a duration of 20 seconds with the inclusion of precession effects and higher order modes. We present the average sensitivity distance and runtime for the 6 entered algorithms derived from 1 month of test data unknown to the participants prior to submission. Of these, 4 are machine learning algorithms. We find that the best machine learning based algorithms are able to achieve up to 95% of the sensitive distance of matched-filtering based production analyses for simulated Gaussian noise at a false-alarm rate (FAR) of one per month. In contrast, for real noise, the leading machine learning search achieved 70%. For higher FARs the differences in sensitive distance shrink to the point where select machine learning submissions outperform traditional search algorithms at FARs $\geq 200$ per month on some datasets. Our results show that current machine learning search algorithms may already be sensitive enough in limited parameter regions to be useful for some production settings. To improve the state-of-the-art, machine learning algorithms need to reduce the false-alarm rates at which they are capable of detecting signals and extend their validity to regions of parameter space where modeled searches are computationally expensive to run. We present the highest fidelity spectrum to date of a planetary-mass object. VHS 1256 b is a $<$20 M$_\mathrm{Jup}$ widely separated ($\sim$8\arcsec, a = 150 au), young, planetary-mass companion that shares photometric colors and spectroscopic features with the directly imaged exoplanets HR 8799 c, d, and e. As an L-to-T transition object, VHS 1256 b exists along the region of the color-magnitude diagram where substellar atmospheres transition from cloudy to clear. We observed VHS 1256~b with \textit{JWST}'s NIRSpec IFU and MIRI MRS modes for coverage from 1 $\mu$m to 20 $\mu$m at resolutions of $\sim$1,000 - 3,700. Water, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sodium, and potassium are observed in several portions of the \textit{JWST} spectrum based on comparisons from template brown dwarf spectra, molecular opacities, and atmospheric models. The spectral shape of VHS 1256 b is influenced by disequilibrium chemistry and clouds. We present JWST Early Release Science (ERS) coronagraphic observations of the super-Jupiter exoplanet, HIP 65426 b, with the Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) from 2-5 $\mu$m, and with the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) from 11-16 $\mu$m. At a separation of $\sim$0.82" (86$^{+116}_{-31}$ au), HIP 65426 b is clearly detected in all seven of our observational filters, representing the first images of an exoplanet to be obtained by JWST, and the first ever direct detection of an exoplanet beyond 5 $\mu$m. These observations demonstrate that JWST is exceeding its nominal predicted performance by up to a factor of 10, depending on separation and subtraction method, with measured 5$\sigma$ contrast limits of $\sim$1$\times10^{-5}$ and $\sim$2$\times10^{-4}$ at 1" for NIRCam at 4.4 $\mu$m and MIRI at 11.3 $\mu$m, respectively. These contrast limits provide sensitivity to sub-Jupiter companions with masses as low as 0.3$M_\mathrm{Jup}$ beyond separations of $\sim$100 au. Together with existing ground-based near-infrared data, the JWST photometry are well fit by a BT-SETTL atmospheric model from 1-16 $\mu$m, and span $\sim$97% of HIP 65426 b's luminous range. Independent of the choice of model atmosphere we measure an empirical bolometric luminosity that is tightly constrained between $\mathrm{log}\!\left(L_\mathrm{bol}/L_{\odot}\right)$=-4.31 to $-$4.14, which in turn provides a robust mass constraint of 7.1$\pm$1.2 $M_\mathrm{Jup}$. Compact binaries are an important class of gravitational-wave (GW) sources that can be detected by current and future GW observatories. They provide a testbed for general relativity (GR) in the highly dynamical strong-field regime. Here, we use GWs from inspiraling binary neutron stars and binary black holes to investigate dipolar gravitational radiation (DGR) and varying gravitational constant predicted by some alternative theories to GR, such as the scalar-tensor gravity. Within the parametrized post-Einsteinian framework, we introduce the parametrization of these two effects simultaneously into compact binaries' inspiral waveform and perform the Fisher-information-matrix analysis to estimate their simultaneous bounds. In general, the space-based GW detectors can give a tighter limit than ground-based ones. The tightest constraints can reach $\sigma_B<3\times10^{-11}$ for the DGR parameter $B$ and $\sigma_{\dot{G}}/G < 7\times10^{-9} \, {\rm yr}^{-1} $ for the varying $G$, when the time to coalescence of the GW event is close to the lifetime of space-based detectors. We report the discovery of substellar objects in the young star cluster IC 348 and the neighboring Barnard 5 dark cloud, both at the eastern end of the Perseus star-forming complex. The substellar candidates are selected using narrowband imaging, i.e., on and off photometric technique with a filter centered around the water absorption feature at 1.45 microns, a technique proven to be efficient in detecting water-bearing substellar objects. Our spectroscopic observations confirm three brown dwarfs in IC 348. In addition, the source WBIS 03492858+3258064, reported in this work, is the first confirmed brown dwarf discovered toward Barnard 5. Together with the young stellar population selected via near- and mid-infrared colors using the Two Micron All Sky Survey and the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, we diagnose the relation between stellar versus substellar objects with the associated molecular clouds. We study the critical dynamics in the scalarization and descalarization in the fully nonlinear dynamical evolution in a general theory with scalar field coupling with both Gauss-Bonnet invariant and Ricci scalar. We explore how the Gauss-Bonnet term triggers the black hole scalarization. A typical type I critical phenomenon is observed, where an unstable critical solution emerges at the threshold and acts as an attractor in the dynamical scalarization. In the descalarization, a marginally stable attractor exists at the threshold of the first order phase transition in shedding off black hole hair. This is a new type I critical phenomenon in the black hole phase transition. Implications of these findings are discussed from the perspective of thermodynamic properties and perturbations for static solutions. We examine the effect of scalar-Ricci coupling on the hyperbolicity in the fully nonlinear evolution and find that such coupling can suppress the elliptic region and enlarge parameter space in computations., Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures

Space-based gravitational wave (GW) detectors will be able to observe signals from sources that are otherwise nearly impossible from current ground-based detection. Consequently, the well established signal detection method, matched filtering, will require a complex template bank, leading to a computational cost that is too expensive in practice. Here, we develop a high-accuracy GW signal detection and extraction method for all space-based GW sources. As a proof of concept, we show that a science-driven and uniform multi-stage self-attention-based deep neural network can identify synthetic signals that are submerged in Gaussian noise. Our method exhibits a detection rate exceeding 99% in identifying signals from various sources, with the signal-to-noise ratio at 50, at a false alarm rate of 1%. while obtaining at least 95% similarity compared with target signals. There has been a plethora of studies on domain wall dynamics in magnetic nanostrips, mainly because of its versatile non-linear physics and potential applications in data storage devices. However, most of the studies focus on out-of-plane domain walls or in-plane head-to-head (tail-to-tail) domain walls. Here, we numerically study the field-driven dynamics of in-plane side-by-side domain walls in ferromagnetic strips, which can be stable in the presence of an in-plane easy-axis anisotropy transverse to the strip. The domain walls move in a rigid-body manner at low field, and show complex Walker breakdown behavior at high field. We observe a multi-step Walker breakdown through vortex nucleation in wide strips. In the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI), the first Walker breakdown field first decreases then increases with interfacial DMI, while keeps increasing with bulk DMI. We present the third discovery from the COol Companions ON Ultrawide orbiTS (COCONUTS) program, the COCONUTS-3 system, composed of a young M5 primary star UCAC4 374-046899 and a very red L6 dwarf WISEA J081322.19$-$152203.2. These two objects have a projected separation of 61$''$ (1891 au) and are physically associated given their common proper motions and estimated distances. The primary star, COCONUTS-3A, has a mass of $0.123\pm0.006$ M$_{\odot}$ and we estimate its age as 100 Myr to 1 Gyr based on its kinematics and spectrophotometric properties. We derive its metallicity as $0.21 \pm 0.07$ dex using empirical calibrations established by older higher-gravity M dwarfs and find this [Fe/H] could be slightly underestimated according to PHOENIX models given COCONUTS-3A's younger age. The companion, COCONUTS-3B, has a near-infrared spectral type of L6$\pm$1 INT-G, and we infer physical properties of $T_{\rm eff} = 1362^{+48}_{-73}$ K, $\log{(g)}= 4.96^{+0.15}_{-0.34}$ dex, $R = 1.03^{+0.12}_{-0.06}$ R$_{\rm Jup}$, and $M = 39^{+11}_{-18}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$, using its bolometric luminosity, its host star's age, and hot-start evolution models. We construct cloudy atmospheric model spectra at the evolution-based physical parameters and compare them to COCONUTS-3B's spectrophotometry. We find this companion possesses ample condensate clouds in its photosphere with the data-model discrepancies likely due to the models using an older version of the opacity database. Compared to field-age L6 dwarfs, COCONUTS-3B has fainter absolute magnitudes and a 120 K cooler $T_{\rm eff}$. Also, the J-K color of this companion is among the reddest for ultracool benchmarks with ages older than a few 100 Myr. COCONUTS-3 likely formed in the same fashion as stellar binaries given the companion-to-host mass ratio of 0.3 and represents a valuable benchmark to quantify the systematics of substellar model atmospheres., Comment: Accepted by ApJ. 34 pages including 14 figures and 5 tables

The spectra of brown dwarfs are key to exploring the chemistry and physics that take place in their atmospheres. Late-T dwarf spectra are particularly diagnostic due to their relatively cloud-free atmospheres and deep molecular bands. With the use of powerful atmospheric retrieval tools applied to the spectra of these objects, direct constraints on molecular/atomic abundances, gravity, and vertical thermal profiles can be obtained enabling a broad exploration of the chemical/physical mechanisms operating in their atmospheres. We present a uniform retrieval analysis on low-resolution IRTF SpeX near-IR spectra of a sample of 50 T dwarfs, including new observations as part of a recent volume-limited survey. This analysis more than quadruples the sample of T dwarfs with retrieved temperature profiles and abundances (H$_2$O, CH$_4$, NH$_3$, K and subsequent C/O and metallicities). We are generally able to constrain effective temperatures to within 50K, volume mixing ratios for major species to within 0.25dex, atmospheric metallicities [M/H] to within 0.2, and C/O ratios to within 0.2. We compare our retrieved constraints on the thermal structure, chemistry, and gravities of these objects with predictions from self-consistent radiative-convective equilibrium models and find, in general though with substantial scatter, consistency with solar composition chemistry and thermal profiles of the neighboring stellar FGK population. Objects with notable discrepancies between the two modeling techniques and potential mechanisms for their differences, be they related to modeling approach or physically motivated, are discussed more thoroughly in the text., Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures
