The spider family Ctenidae Keyserling, 1877 has a worldwide distribution with 580 species belonging to 49 genera, of which 109 species of six genera are distributed in Southeast Asia.Four new species of ctenid spiders are described from Southeast Asia: Anahita menglun sp. n. (Yunnan, China), Bowie haiphong sp. n. (Hai Phong, Vietnam), Bowie mengla sp. n. (Yunnan, China) and Bowie zhengi sp. n. (Yunnan, China). In addition, the female of Sinoctenus zhui Marusik, Zhang & Omelko, 2012 (Hainan, China) is described for the first time.

● Interflow acts as the dominant pathway for N loss loadings. ● The purple soil region is a hot spot of nitrate leaching in China. ● Mineral N substitution with organic amendments can be recommended as optimal practices for cropland N management. Nitrogen loss from purple soil can lead to large negative impacts to the environment considering the wide distribution of this soil type in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. Therefore, nitrogen loss patterns from sloping cropland of purple soil in the Sichuan Basin with the following fertilization regimes were studied in a wheat-maize rotation system: 100% organic fertilizer (OM), using pig manure to replace 30% of mineral N (OMNPK) and crop residue to replace 15% of the mineral N (CRNPK) plus standard mineral fertilization (NPK) and no fertilizer control. The cumulative hydrological N loss could be as high as 45 kg·ha−1 N. The interflow accounted for up to 90% of the total N loss followed by sediment and overland flow losses. The high N loss via interflow found in this study highlighting that sloping cropland of purple soil may be one of the hot spots of N leaching. Compared to the NPK regime, organic substitution regimes (i.e., OM, OMNPK and CRNPK) decreased total hydrological N loss loadings by 30% to 68%. In addition, they can maintain annual crop yields and decrease yield-scaled total hydrological N losses by 18% to 71%. In conclusion, long-term substitution of mineral N with organic amendments can maintain high crop productivity and reduce environmental N loss loadings, and thereby recommended as good N management practices to minimize the risk of agricultural non-point source pollution in the purple soil region of China.

Amauropelma Raven, Stumkat & Gray, 2001 currently contains 24 species. It is distributed in Australia, India, Indonesia, Laos and Malaysia. This genus has not been found in China. Ctenus Walckenaer, 1805 comprises 213 known species. This genus is distributed worldwide. Currently, only two species, Ctenus lishuqiang Jäger, 2012 and Ctenus yaeyamensis Yoshida, 1998 are known to occur in China.Three new species of ctenid spiders are described from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden in Yunnan Province, China: Amauropelma yunnan sp. nov., Ctenus banna sp. nov. and Ctenus yulin sp. nov. Amauropelma and Ctenus robustus Thorell, 1897 are reported from China for the first time.

The Pholcus yichengicus species-group currently contains 37 species. It is distributed in central and south-eastern China and Thailand, except for P. guani Song & Ren, 1994 from Liaoning Province, north-eastern China and P. clavatus Schenkel, 1936 which is widely distributed in the country.Pholcus bajia sp. nov. is described as a new species of the P. yichengicus species-group collected from Hebei Province, China.

Abstract Background Probiotics are widely used to promote host health. Compared to mammals and terrestrial invertebrates, little is known the role of probiotics in aquatic invertebrates. In this study, eighteen tanks with eight hundred of shrimp post-larvae individuals each were randomly grouped into three groups, one is shrimps administered with E. faecium as probiotic (Tre) and others are shrimps without probiotic-treatment (CK1: blank control, CK2: medium control). We investigated the correlations between a kind of commercial Enterococcus faecium (E. faecium) powder and microbiota composition with function potentials in shrimp post-larvae gut. Results We sequenced the 16S rRNA gene (V4) of gut samples to assess diversity and composition of the shrimp gut microbiome and used differential abundance and Tax4Fun2 analyses to identify the differences of taxonomy and predicted function between different treatment groups. The ingested probiotic bacteria (E. faecium) were tracked in gut microbiota of Tre and the shrimps here showed the best growth performance especially in survival ratio (SR). Correlation functions and entanglement are two different aspects to characterize quantum many-body states. While many correlation functions are experimentally accessible, entanglement entropy (EE), the simplest characterization of quantum entanglement, is usually difficult to measure. In this Letter, we propose a protocol to bound EE by local measurements. This protocol utilizes local correlation matrices and focuses on their (approximate) zero eigenvalues. Given a quantum state, each (approximate) zero eigenvalue can be used to define a set of local projection operators. An auxiliary Hamiltonian can then be constructed by summing these projectors. When the construction only involves projectors of zero eigenvalues, we prove the EE of a subsystem is bounded by the ground-state degeneracy of the auxiliary Hamiltonian on this subsystem. When projectors from nonzero eigenvalues are included, we show the EE can be bounded by a thermal entropy of the subsystem. Our protocol can be applied experimentally to investigate exotic quantum many-body states prepared in quantum simulators.

The Pholcus phungiformes species group is highly diverse and currently contains 53 species. In this study, Pholcus tongyaoi Wang & Yao, sp. nov. (male, female) from Huairou District, Beijing, China is described while similar congener Pholcus lexuancanhi Yao, Pham & Li, 2012 from neighboring Haidian District (type locality) is redescribed; the female of P. lexuancanhi is described for the first time. In addition, the DNA barcode COI for the two species was obtained to estimate p-distance.

Previously, the genus Merizocera Fage, 1912 comprised only seven species from Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The performance and wear life of linear ultrasonic motors are directly determined by the stator–mover frictional contact behaviors. A complete contact model is important to clearly understand the stator–mover contact mechanism and accurately estimate the motor performance. In this paper, a multi-point frictional contact model considering the roughness of contact interfaces is presented based on a finite model of the stator and an analytical model of the mover. The static/dynamic contact behaviors and output performance of the motor can be simulated efficiently. A quantitative measuring methodology for the dynamic contact forces between the stator and mover is developed. The effectiveness of the contact model for simulating the stator–mover contact forces is first evaluated by experiment. Based on the developed model, several dynamic characteristics of a linear ultrasonic motor are discussed: (a) the static force transferred between contact interfaces under pre-pressure; (b) the transient forces and energy exchange between contact interfaces; (c) the steady-state output performance of motor under different electric excitation parameters; (d) the effects of micro-topography parameters on the output performance of the motor and the force transmission of the contact interface.

Anthropogenic disturbances and global climate change are causing large-scale biodiversity loss and threatening ecosystem functions. However, due to the lack of knowledge on microbial species loss, our understanding on how functional profiles of soil microbes respond to diversity decline is still limited. Here, we evaluated the biotic homogenization of global soil metagenomic data to examine whether microbial functional structure is resilient to significant diversity reduction. Our results showed that although biodiversity loss caused a decrease in taxonomic species by 72%, the changes in the relative abundance of diverse functional categories were limited. The stability of functional structures associated with microbial species richness decline in terrestrial systems suggests a decoupling of taxonomy and function. The changes in functional profile with biodiversity loss were function-specific, with broad-scale metabolism functions decreasing and typical nutrient-cycling functions increasing. Our results imply high levels of microbial physiological versatility in the face of significant biodiversity decline, which, however, does not necessarily mean that a loss in total functional abundance, such as microbial activity, can be overlooked in the background of unprecedented species extinction.

Image classification is widely used in industrial defect detection, medical diagnosis, social welfare, and other fields, in which privacy and security of models and data must be involved. For example, in diamond synthesis, the diamond substrate image annotation data and the defect detection model are of value for conservation. Based on ensuring inference efficiency and the security of these private data intellectual property, the 3-party secure inference based on secure multi-party computation (MPC) can be adopted. MPC allows parties to use neural networks while preserving their input privacy for collaborative computing, but it will lead to huge communication and memory consumption. This paper propose PriRepVGG, a lightweight privacy-preserving image-based defect detection framework for 3-party. In this work, firstly, This work optimized the division and added an AdaptiveAvgpool layer in MPC framework FALCON; then, This work ported the inference architecture of the RegVGG network into FALCON creatively. Our work applied PriRepVGG to the secure inference of the diamond substrates defect detection under the data server, model server, and compute server settings, which can be carried out in batches with a low misjudgment rate and verify the feasibility of image-based secure inference with a lightweight network in an industrial case under MPC.

This paper presents the vibration response analysis and optimal structural design of a microgripper driven by linear ultrasonic motors (LUMs) dedicated to improving end-point positioning accuracy. Based on structural vibration theory, a parametric vibration response model of the microgripper finger was established, and the relative sensitivities of the structural and material parameters that affect the vibration amplitude of the fingertip were calculated within the structural and material constraints. Then, according to the sensitivity calculation results, a multidimensional constrained nonlinear optimization model was constructed to suppress the vibration of the end-effector. The improved internal penalty function method combined with Newton iteration was adopted to obtain the optimal structural parameters. Finally, the vibration experimental results show that the vibration amplitude of the initial microgripper fingertip is 16.31 μm, and the value measured after optimization was 2.49 μm, exhibiting a reduction of 84.7%. Therefore, the proposed optimal design method can effectively restrain the vibration of the microgripper end-effector and improve manipulation stability.

The release of Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 has been widely found in various environments, but little is known about the probable influence of the transient E. coli O157:H7 invasion on the native microbial community. Here, we investigated the temporal response of two bacterial biospheres (abundant and rare) of two marsh sediments against E. coli O157:H7 during a 60-day incubation. The diversity of both biospheres showed no evident response to O157:H7 invasion. Temporal factor exhibited greater effects on bacterial variation than O157:H7 invasion. We found that O157:H7 invasion led to an increase in the niche breadth of the bacterial community while decreasing the efficiency of bacterial interaction of the abundant taxa. Moreover, the rare biosphere exhibited enhanced stability against O157:H7 invasion compared with the abundant biosphere, acting as the backbone in resisting external disturbance. Furthermore, each subcommunity assembly showed different randomness levels. The stochastic events were relatively more important in constraining the abundant taxa assembly after invasion. Collectively, E. coli O157:H7 exhibited diverse tangible impact on both biospheres, which unearthed differential responses of abundant and rare biosphere against transient microbial invasion.

Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus (VEEV) is a major biothreat agent that naturally causes outbreaks in humans and horses particularly in tropical areas of the western hemisphere, for which no antiviral therapy is currently available. The host response to VEEV and the cellular factors this alphavirus hijacks to support its effective replication or evade cellular immune responses are largely uncharacterized. We have previously demonstrated tremendous cell-to-cell heterogeneity in viral RNA (vRNA) and cellular transcript levels during flaviviral infection using a novel virus-inclusive single-cell RNA-Seq approach. Here, we used this unbiased, genome-wide approach to simultaneously profile the host transcriptome and vRNA in thousands of single cells during infection of human astrocytes with the live-attenuated vaccine strain of VEEV (TC-83). Host transcription was profoundly suppressed, yet "superproducer cells" with extremely high vRNA abundance emerged during the first viral life cycle and demonstrated an altered transcriptome relative to both uninfected cells and cells with high vRNA abundance harvested at later time points. Additionally, cells with increased structural-to-nonstructural transcript ratio exhibited upregulation of intracellular membrane trafficking genes at later time points. Loss- and gain-of-function experiments confirmed pro- and antiviral activities in both vaccine and virulent VEEV infections among the products of transcripts that positively or negatively correlated with vRNA abundance, respectively. Lastly, comparison with single cell transcriptomic data from other viruses highlighted common and unique pathways perturbed by infection across evolutionary scales. This study provides a high-resolution characterization of the VEEV (TC-83)-host interplay, identifies candidate targets for antivirals, and establishes a comparative single-cell approach to study the evolution of virus-host interactions.

With low porosity and low permeability, shale reservoirs cannot be mined economically without large-scale hydraulic fracturing operation. However, abundant fracturing fluid will enter the reservoirs during the process of fracture. Nevertheless, there have not been specific research findings on the imbibition law of Fuling shale gas reservoir in China. In this study, an imbibition experiment was carried out on the shale core of Jiaoshiba block of Fuling shale gas reservoir to learn spontaneous imbibition characteristic of Fuling shale gas reservoir. Based on the experimental results, the imbibition process of Fuling shale gas reservoir fracturing fluid is divided into two stages. During the first stage, i.e., the former 30 hours, imbibition velocity is high, with the cumulative imbibition occupying more than 70% of the total imbibition; during the second stage, i.e., the latter 30 hours, the imbibition velocity substantially drops towards balance. There is a typical power function relationship between the average imbibition velocity and imbibition time, and this function relationship runs throughout the whole imbibition process. Nonetheless, the imbibition process of shale core cannot be described directly by the Handy equation. The imbibition velocity is closely related to clay mineral content and pore structure characteristics of shale core. The higher the clay mineral content, the higher the imbibition velocity. According to the relationship between the average imbibition velocity and imbibition time, we derived the estimation equation of fracture area formed by fractured shale gas well to estimate the fracture scale formed by shale gas well fracturing.

The Pinelema bailongensis Wang & Li, 2012 species group of the spider family Telemidae Fage, 1913 from Guangxi and Guizhou, China is revised. Previously, this species group contained two species: P. bailongensis and P. xiushuiensis Wang & Li, 2016. In this study, four species are transferred from Telema Simon, 1882 to Pinelema Wang & Li, 2012, and treated as members of the P. bailongensis species group. They are P. cordata (Wang & Li, 2010) comb. n., P. liangxi (Zhu & Chen, 2002) comb. n., P. strentarsi (Lin & Li, 2010) comb. n. and P. zhewang (Chen & Zhu, 2009) comb. n. Additionally, six new species belonging to the species group are described: P. cheni Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), P. huoyan Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), P. lizhuang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), P. wangshang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀), P. wenyang Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀) and P. yunchuni Zhao & Li, sp. n. (♂♀). A key to males is provided.

Abstract Increasing evidence has emerged supporting a tight link between gut bacterial community and shrimp health. However, the knowledge about the variation of gut bacterial community, especially with different disease onset time, remains elusive. Here, healthy and diseased shrimps were collected at 3 disease-outbreak times (day 70, 80 and 85) to investigate the variation of gut bacterial community and its underlying ecological process with 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. The gut bacterial community of diseased shrimp was distinct from the healthy one and temporally less stable, characterized by decreased alpha-diversity and dispersive structure. And its dominant ecological process experienced a transition with disease onset time, although deterministic process mainly governed the healthy gut bacterial assembly. In addition, the core microbiota of healthy shrimp gut harbored more diverse bacterial taxa with more cooperative interactions, while the diseased core microbiota showed opposite pattern with significantly higher abundance of opportunistic pathogens as well. These findings indicate that shrimp heath is highly relevant to the homeostasis of its gut bacterial community. Preservation and restoration of the bacterial community equilibrium could represent an effective strategy for shrimp disease prevention.

As microplastic pollution continues to increase, an emerging threat is the potential for microplastics to act as novel substrates and/or carriers for pathogens. This is of particular concern for aquatic product safety given the growing evidence of microplastic ingestion by aquaculture species. However, the potential risks of pathogens associated with microplastics in mariculture remain poorly understood. Here, an in situ incubation experiment involving three typical microplastics including polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene (PE), and polypropylene (PP) was conducted during the summer–autumn period in a mariculture cage. The identification of potential pathogens based on the 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and a custom-made database for pathogenic bacteria involved in aquatic environments, was performed to assess the risks of different microplastics attaching potential pathogens. The enrichment of pathogens was not observed in microplastic-associated communities when compared with free-living and particle-attached communities in surrounding seawater. Despite the lower relative abundance, pathogens showed different preferences for three microplastic substrates, of which PET was the most favored by pathogens, especially potentially pathogenic members of Vibrio, Tenacibaculum, and Escherichia. Moreover, the colonization of these pathogens on microplastics was strongly affected by environmental factors (e.g., temperature, nitrite). Our results provide insights into the ecological risks of microplastics in mariculture industry.

Macroautophagy (hereafter autophagy) is a well-conserved cellular process through which cytoplasmic components are delivered to the vacuole/lysosome for degradation and recycling. Studies have revealed the molecular mechanism of transcriptional regulation of autophagy-related (ATG) genes upon nutrient deprivation. However, little is known about their translational regulation. Here, we found that Dhh1, a DExD/H-box RNA helicase, is required for efficient translation of Atg1 and Atg13, two proteins essential for autophagy induction. Dhh1 directly associates with ATG1 and ATG13 mRNAs under nitrogen-starvation conditions. The structured regions shortly after the start codons of the two ATG mRNAs are necessary for their translational regulation by Dhh1. Both the RNA-binding ability and helicase activity of Dhh1 are indispensable to promote Atg1 translation and autophagy. Moreover, eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (EIF4E)-associated protein 1 (Eap1), a target of rapamycin (TOR)-regulated EIF4E binding protein, physically interacts with Dhh1 after nitrogen starvation and facilitates the translation of Atg1 and Atg13. These results suggest a model for how some ATG genes bypass the general translational suppression that occurs during nitrogen starvation to maintain a proper level of autophagy.

Commercial microbial agents (e.g., probiotics, microbial products, microorganism preparation et al.) have been widely applied for disease control in shrimp culture. However, the effect of these microbial agents (MA) on shrimp health is unstable and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The effect of MA can probably be achieved by influencing the bacterial community of shrimp culture system. To test this hypothesis, we used 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing to investigate the dynamics of both planktonic and intestinal bacterial composition in shrimp culture ponds with or without commercial MA applied weekly. The results showed that MA application increased the temporal turnover rate of bacterioplankton community. Within 1 week, MA-treatment significantly drove bacterioplankton community composition to divert from that without MA-treatment at day 2 after MA application, but the deviation tended to vanish at days 4 and 7. At day 21, a significant difference was observed in shrimp intestinal bacterial community between two groups. The relative abundance of Rhodobacteraceae in shrimp intestine was significantly greater in the MA-treated group than that in the control. However, MA-treatment did not significantly improve the growth or survival ratio of shrimp. This study suggest that MA works in terms of accelerating bacterioplankton community turnover and shifting intestinal bacterial community, however, its effect on shrimp growth might vary greatly and might be improved by optimizing the method in activation and application and more investigation on the microbial ecological process of shrimp culture system is needed before we develop and apply probiotics more efficiently.
