The morphogenetic relationship between early patterning and polarity formation is of fundamental interest and remains a controversial issue in preimplantation embryonic development. We use a label-free three-dimensional (3-D) imaging technique of full-field optical coherence tomography (FF-OCT) successfully for the first time to study the dynamics of developmental processes in mouse preimplantation lives. Label-free 3-D subcellular time-lapse images are demonstrated to investigate 3-D spatial relationship between the second polar body (2PB) and the first cleavage plane. By using FF-OCT together with quantitative study, we show that only 25% of the predicted first cleavage planes, defined by the apposing plane of two pronuclei, pass through the 2PB. Also only 27% of the real cleavage planes pass through the 2PB. These results suggest that the 2PB is not a convincing spatial cue for the event of the first cleavage. Our studies demonstrate the feasibility of FF-OCT in providing new insights and potential breakthroughs to the controversial issues of early patterning and polarity in mammalian developmental biology.

Resistive memory has attracted a great deal of attention as an alternative to contemporary flash memory. Here we demonstrate an interesting phenomenon that multimode resistive switching, i.e. threshold-like, self-rectifying and ordinary bipolar switching, can be observed in one self-assembled single-crystalline ZnO nanoisland with base diameter and height ranging around 30 and 40 nm on Si at different levels of current compliance. Current-voltage characteristics, conductive atomic force microscopy (C-AFM), and piezoresponse force microscopy results show that the threshold-like and self-rectifying types of switching are controlled by the movement of oxygen vacancies in ZnO nanoisland between the C-AFM tip and Si substrate while ordinary bipolar switching is controlled by formation and rupture of conducting nano-filaments. Threshold-like switching leads to a very small switching power density of 1 × 10(3) W/cm(2).

There is an accumulating body of evidence indicating a strong association between inflammation and the pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation (AF). Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a pleiotropic cytokine, functions as a mediator of inflammatory response, and has both proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of the -634C/G polymorphism of the IL-6 gene with AF in elderly Han Chinese patients with essential hypertension (EH). A total of 169 elderly patients with EH were eligible for this study. Patients with AF (n=75) were allocated to the AF group, and 94 subjects without AF to the control group. The polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique was used to assess the genotype frequencies. The distribution of the IL-6 -634C/G genotypes (CC, CG, and GG) was 67.02%, 30.85%, and 2.13% in the controls, and 50.67%, 40.00%, and 9.33% in AF subjects, respectively (P=0.0312). The frequency of the G allele in the AF group was significantly higher than that in the control group (29.33% vs. 17.55%, P=0.0103). Compared with the CC and CG genotypes, the GG homozygote had a 4.7353-fold increased risk of AF [95% confidence interval (CI)=0.9537-23.5116, P=0.0382]. These findings suggest that the IL-6 -634C/G polymorphism is associated with AF, and the G allele has increased risk of AF in elderly Han Chinese patients with EH.

The anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in L1(0)FePd(1-x)Pt(x) alloy films is studied both experimentally and theoretically. We find that the intrinsic contribution (σ(AH)(int)) to the AHE can be significantly increased, whereas the extrinsic side-jump contribution (σ(AH)(sj)) can be continuously reduced from being slightly larger than σ(AH)(int) in L1(0) FePd to being much smaller than σ(AH)(int) in L1(0) FePt, by increasing the Pt composition x. We show that this chemical composition tuning of the intrinsic contribution is afforded by the stronger spin-orbit coupling strength on the Pd/Pt site when the lighter Pd atoms are replaced by the heavier Pt atoms. Our results provide a means of manipulating the competing AHE mechanisms in ferromagnetic alloys for fully understanding the AHE and also for technological applications of ferromagnetic alloys.

We propose a novel method called compressed sensing with linear-in-wavenumber sampling (k-linear CS) to retrieve an image for spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT). An array of points that is evenly spaced in wavenumber domain is sampled from an original interferogram by a preset k-linear mask. Then the compressed sensing based on l1 norm minimization is applied on these points to reconstruct an A-scan data. To get an OCT image, this method uses less than 20% of the total data as required in the typical process and gets rid of the spectral calibration with numerical interpolation in traditional CS-OCT. Therefore k-linear CS is favorable for high speed imaging. It is demonstrated that the k-linear CS has the same axial resolution performance with ~30 dB higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as compared with the numerical interpolation. Imaging of bio-tissue by SD-OCT with k-linear CS is also demonstrated.

Early patterning and polarity is of fundamental interest in preimplantation embryonic development. Label-free subcellular 3D live imaging is very helpful to its related studies. We have developed a novel system of full-field optical coherence tomography (FF-OCT) for noninvasive 3D subcellular live imaging of preimplantation mouse embryos with no need of dye labeling. 3D digitized embryos can be obtained by image processing. Label-free 3D live imaging is demonstrated for the mouse embryos at various typical preimplantation stages with a spatial resolution of 0.7 [micro sign]m and imaging rate of 24 fps. Factors that relate to early patterning and polarity, such as pronuclei in zygote, shapes of zona pellucida, location of second polar body, cleavage planes, and the blastocyst axis, can be quantitatively measured. The angle between the two second cleavage planes is accurately measured to be 87 deg. It is shown that FF-OCT provides a potential breakthrough for early patterning, polarity formation, and many other preimplantation-related studies in mammalian developmental biology.

Objective: To observe the prognostic value of admission B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) on outcome for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF)., Methods: Blood BNP levels, routine echocardiography and tissue Doppler image were obtained in 162 CHF patients [95 male, mean age: (71.8±3.7) years] at admission. Patients were divided into high BNP (BNP>1500 ng/L, n=104) and low BNP (BNP≤1500 ng/L, n=58) groups. All patients were followed up for 2 years and clinical characteristics, echocardiography including Doppler image and cardiovascular events results were analyzed. Data were also compared between patients with (n=48) or without (n=107) cardiovascular events., Results: Left ventricular ejection fractions (LVEF) was significantly lower [(40.9±5.6)% vs. (44.0±5.9)%, P<0.01] while the total cardiovascular events rate (49.1% vs. 21.0%, P<0.01) and cardiac mortality rate (25.5% vs. 9.0%, P<0.01) were significantly higher in high BNP group than in low BNP group. BNP level at admission in event group was significantly higher than in event-free group [(2875.4±325.7) ng/L vs. (1136.9±298.6) ng/L, P<0.000]. BNP level was positively related to Tei-index (r=0.793, P<0.001) and negatively correlated with LVEF (r=-0.57, P<0.001). Multiple logistic regression analysis demonstrated that BNP, LVEF, Tei-index and β-blocker use were independent risk factors for cardiovascular events. The area under the ROC curve for predicting cardiovascular death within 2 years in event group by BNP was 0.795 (95%CI 0.693-0.935, sensitivity: 72.31% and specificity: 84.62%, cut-off BNP value: 1910 ng/L). The event risk was 2.17 times higher in CHF patients with admission BNP>1910 ng/L compared CHF patients with admission BNP≤1910 ng/L (95%CI: 1.852-2.954, P=0.000)., Conclusion: Admission BNP level, LVEF, Tei-index and β-blocker use are independent risk factors for cardiovascular events in patients with CHF. Patients with higher admission BNP level (>1910 ng/L) is linked with worse prognosis in this patient cohort.

Resistive memory is one of the most promising candidates for next-generation nonvolatile memory technology due to its variety of advantages, such as simple structure and low-power consumption. Bipolar resistive switching behavior was observed in epitaxial ZnO nanoislands with base diameters and heights ranging around 30 and 40 nm, respectively. All four different states (initial, electroformed, ON, and OFF) of the nanoscale resistive memories were measured by conductive atomic force microscopy immediately after the voltage sweeping was performed. Auger electron spectroscopy and other experiments were also carried out to investigate the switching mechanism. The formation and rupture of conducting filaments induced by oxygen vacancy migration are responsible for the resistive switching behaviors of ZnO resistive memories at the nanoscale.

Background: The SQSTM1 gene encodes p62, a major pathologic protein involved in neurodegeneration., Objective: To examine whether SQSTM1 mutations contribute to familial and sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)., Design: Case-control study., Setting: Academic research. Patients  A cohort of 546 patients with familial (n = 340) or sporadic (n = 206) ALS seen at a major academic referral center were screened for SQSTM1 mutations., Main Outcome Measures: We evaluated the distribution of missense, deletion, silent, and intronic variants in SQSTM1 among our cohort of patients with ALS. In silico analysis of variants was performed to predict alterations in p62 structure and function., Results: We identified 10 novel SQSTM1 mutations (9 heterozygous missense and 1 deletion) in 15 patients (6 with familial ALS and 9 with sporadic ALS). Predictive in silico analysis classified 8 of 9 missense variants as pathogenic., Conclusions: Using candidate gene identification based on prior biological knowledge and the functional prediction of rare variants, we identified several novel SQSTM1 mutations in patients with ALS. Our findings provide evidence of a direct genetic role for p62 in ALS pathogenesis and suggest that regulation of protein degradation pathways may represent an important therapeutic target in motor neuron degeneration.

In the present paper, SnS thin films were deposited by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. The influence of the three different precursor concentrations on the properties of SnS thin films was compared. XRD shows that when precursor solution is thiourea (0.5 mol x L(-1)) + tin tetrachloride (0.5 mol x L(-1)) + deionized water, there are SnS and SnO2 mixed phases; when precursor solution is thiourea (0.6 mol x L(-1)) + tin tetrachloride (0.5 mol x L(-1)) + deionized water, SnS phase is the dominant diffraction peak, although a certain amount of SnO2 phase is contained; when precursor solution is thiourea (0.7 mol x L(-1)) + tin tetrachloride (0.5 mol x L(-1)) + deionized water, thin film after being annealed is single SnS thin film with orthorhombic structure. SEM shows that films are uniform and dense. Furthermore, the particles of films are bigger when thiourea concentration is higher. Transmittance spectrum shows that the influence of precursor concentration on transmittance of thin films is less. Dark I-V and C-V tests of the devices show that junction characteristics of the devices were similar when prepared by three different concentrations of precursor solution, and as the thiourea concentration is higher, the carrier concentration is relatively larger.

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a cytokine involved in different physiologic and pathophysiologic processes including essential hypertension (EH). Associations of the IL-6 promoter region polymorphisms with circulating level of IL-6 have been reported in various studies. We detected the IL-6-597G/A polymorphism in 246 EH patients and 194 healthy controls from Jiangsu area (south of China). Individuals all carried the GG wild genotype, no GA or AA genotypes were found. Our results suggest that IL-6-597G/A polymorphism is extremely rare and unlikely to be contributing significantly to disease susceptibility in southern Han Chinese., (Copyright © 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Background: Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a cytokine involved in different physiologic and pathophysiologic processes, and circulating levels of IL-6 differ greatly between individuals, but the results have not always been concordant among diverse populations. The aim of present study was to determine the prevalence of the 3 polymorphisms (-174G/C, -597G/A, and -634C/G) in the IL-6 gene promoter region and their effects on inflammatory markers in normal Han Chinese population., Methods: A total of 232 subjects (143 men and 89 women; mean age, 51.37 ± 17.63 years; range, 22-88 years) of unrelated healthy Han Chinese in Jinangsu area (south of China) were enrolled. Genotyping of the 3 polymorphisms were performed by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism combined with gel electrophoresis and then confirmed by direct sequencing., Results: Among the 232 individuals studied, 231 carried the GG wild type of -174G/C; only 1 carried the GC genotype. For -597G/A polymorphism, individuals all carried the GG wild type; the GA or AA genotypes were not detected. The frequencies of -634C/G genotypes CC, CG, and GG were found to be 59.48%, 37.07%, and 3.45%, respectively, the derived allele frequencies for the C and G alleles were 78.02% and 21.98%. There were no significant differences in age, sex, body mass index, or lipids parameters between the -634 CC and CG+GG genotypes. However, individuals with CC genotype showed lower levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and IL-6 than those with CG+GG genotype., Conclusions: IL-6 -174G/C and -597G/A are rare, but -634C/G is common in Han Chinese population, and the -634G allele is associated with circulating levels of IL-6 and C-reactive protein.

Background: It has been found that cardiac protection afforded by ischemic preconditioning (IPC) is significantly reduced in the senescent myocardium. ADAMTS-1 (a disintesrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type 1 motifs) has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis in a variety of in vitro and in vivo assays. The aim of this study was to investigate the age-associated differences in ADAMTS-1 protein expression in rat myocardium after ischemic preconditioning., Methods: Sixty-four young (4 months) and old (24 months) male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to an IPC group (40 rats) or a sham group (rats). A model of delayed IPC was induced and rats were sacrificed and myocardial samples were harvested from the ischemic-reperfused region for immunohistochemical detection of ADAMTS-1 at serial time points after IPC. A model of myocardial infarction was produced by ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery in additional sets of young and old rats after sham or IPC procedures, then age-associated myocardial infarction survival after IPC was calculated., Results: ADAMTS-1 expression increased significantly in old rats compared to young rats (P < 0.05). The mean densities of ADAMTS-1 protein at 0, 6, 12, and 24 hours in young-IPC group after IPC were 0.05 ± 0.01, 0.13 ± 0.03, 0.16 ± 0.04, and 0.12 ± 0.03 vs. 0.07 ± 0.03, 0.20 ± 0.03, 0.24 ± 0.05, and 0.21 ± 0.04 in old-IPC group. IPC resulted in diminished survival rates (5/35 vs. 6/14, old-IPC group vs. old-sham group, P < 0.05), reduced left ventricular fractional shortening ((13.9 ± 2.8)% vs. (18.3 ± 2.3)%, P < 0.05) and increased the myocardial infarction size ((37.9 ± 3.2)% vs. (32.8 ± 5.1)%, P < 0.05) in the older rats., Conclusions: Cardioprotection with IPC is attenuated in the older heart. ADAMTS-1 expression induced by IPC is greater in old rats. Over-expression of anti-angiogenic factors might be a potential mechanism behind reduced protection after IPC associated with aging.

Adiponectin is a polypeptide specifically secreted from human adipocytes, and its deficiency is closely linked to increased obesity and type II diabetes. There is an urgent demand for large-scale production of human adiponectin for pharmaceutical applications. Here, we report that we have successfully obtained a high-level of expression of modified genes encoding human adiponectin in transgenic rice. The 735 bp cDNA of the native human sequence was adopted to rice codon usage, fused to the translation initiation sequence in the N terminus and to the KDEL signal sequence in the C terminus. An amplification promoting sequence acting as an enhancer of transcription was also introduced to enhance gene expression. The presence of the transgene and mRNA transcripts was confirmed by PCR, Southern blot and RT-PCR. Western blot analysis revealed that a protein of approximately 30 kDa was produced in rice leaves. ELISA analysis was used to determine the amount of recombinant adiponectin in transformants with the modified gene in up to 0.32% of total soluble leaf protein. Our results establish the feasibility of high-level expression of recombinant human adiponectin in transgenic rice.

This Letter describes the shock-induced amorphization of single-crystal Si bombarded by nanodroplets. At impact velocities of several kilometers per second, the projectiles trigger strong compression pulses lasting tens of picoseconds. The phase transition, confirmed via transmission electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction, takes place when the projectile's stagnation pressure is approximately 15 GPa. We speculate that the amorphization results either from the decompression of the β-Sn phase or during the compression of the diamond phase.

Objective: To investigate whether adiponectin plays a role in the protection of myocardium in the rat myocardial ischemia preconditioning (IPC) model., Method: Infarct size was measured by Masson's Trichrome staining, the expression of protein and mRNA of adiponectin at 0, 6, 12 and 24 h after IPC was examined by immunohistochemistry and quantitative real time RT-PCR, plasma levels of adiponectin at above mentioned four time points after IPC were detected by ELISA in IPC and MI rats., Result: Infarct size was smaller in IPC than in MI rats (20% ± 2% vs. 31% ± 3%, P < 0.05). The expression of adiponectin mRNA at 6 h and 12 h after IPC was 2.2 and 2.1 times higher than in Sham rats at respective time points (P < 0.05). Immunohistochemistry staining evidenced increased adiponectin expression in the ischemic area and weak expression of adiponectin in non-ischemic area (P < 0.05). Compared to the sham group, the plasma level of adiponectin increased significantly at 0, 6 and 12 h after IPC (0 h: 7.40 ± 0.47 vs. 10.90 ± 1.74; 6 h: 8.18 ± 1.41 vs. 10.98 ± 1.74; 12 h: 6.97 ± 1.02 vs. 9.31 ± 0.96, P < 0.05)., Conclusion: IPC reduced infarction size, upregulated the myocardial expression of adiponectin at mRNA and protein levels, and increased plasma adiponectin concentration, suggesting that the adiponectin may play a critical role in the protective effect of IPC.

Hierarchical tree-, mushroom- and cockscomb-like ZnO arrays with increasing branching order and complexities have been grown in situ on cheap zinc plates by a simple hydrothermal oxidation approach. Their morphology, crystal structure and orientation relationship are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and cross-sectional high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The wurtzite ZnO arrays, growing mainly in the [0001] direction, show a special orientation relationship between the stem and the branch as well as a novel stem-branch boundary which might be attributed to the least mismatch between [symbol: see text] and (0002) lattice planes. The co-solvent ethylenediamine (en) was used to control the morphology and complexing of these complex ZnO nanostructures. Correspondingly, the physical properties of ZnO nanostructure assembly arrays were tuned and a stronger UV emission was observed with negligible emissions in the visible range, indicating the highly crystalline features of the complex ZnO micro-/nanostructured materials.

Objective: to observe the effect of ischemia preconditioning (IPC) on the expression of pro-angiogenic VEGF, PDGF and anti-angiogenic ADAMTS-1, and arteriogenesis., Methods: rat heart IPC model was made by 4 circles of occluding the LAD for 6 min followed by 6 min of reperfusion. The expression of VEGF, PDGF-B and ADAMTS-1 in the ischemic area was examined with immunohistochemistry at 6, 12 and 24 h after IPC. IPC plus myocardial infarction model was induced by LAD ligation 24 h after IPC, 14 days later, the anti-SM-α-actin antibody was used to detect the mature neovascularization in the border of the infracted area., Results: VEGF, PDGF-B and ADAMTS-1 were significantly upregulated in the ischemic area in IPC group compared with the control group (P < 0.05). Density of mature arteries was also significantly increased in IPC plus MI group than that in MI group (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: IPC promoted the formation of mature new arteries which may be modulated by upregulating VEGF, PDGF-B, and ADAMTS-1 expressions.

Objectives: Focal atrial tachycardia (AT) arising from non-coronary cusp (NCC) is very rare, and the experience in catheter ablation of this kind of tachycardia remains limited. This study describes the electrophysiologic characteristics and radiofrequency ablation of AT arising from NCC., Methods and Results: The study population consisted of five consecutive patients (three females and two males; age 37-68 years) with AT arising from NCC. The morphology of P waves was described as positive, negative, isoelectric, or biphasic (positive-negative or negative-positive). The atrial mapping was performed during tachycardia to define the earliest atrial activation site. Mean tachycardia cycle length of AT in five patients was 363 +/- 44 ms. P-wave morphology was predominantly upright or biphasic in lead II, III, and aVF, inverted in aVR. Positive P-wave morphology was seen in lead aVL in all five patients. The precordial leads were negative-positive in V(1) and V(2), negative-positive or positive in lead V(3)-V(5), and positive in lead V(6). All the five patients underwent successful radiofrequency ablation within NCC. During a follow up of > 3 months, no patient presented with a recurrence., Conclusions: This study demonstrated that mapping and ablation of focal AT arising from NCC is safe and effective. When earliest activation was recorded in the proximal electrode of the His-bundle catheter, but radiofrequency ablation in this region cannot successfully eliminated the tachycardia, the AT should be considered to arise from NCC especially when P-wave morphology was initially negative with a late positive component in right precordial leads, upright or biphasic in inferior leads.

Particle size is generally considered to be the primary factor in the design of nanocrystal photocatalysts, because the reduction of particle size increases the number of active sites. However, the benefit from the size reduction can be canceled by a higher electron-hole recombination rate due to the confined space in sphere-shaped nanoparticles. Here we report a mechanistic study on a novel nanobelt structure that overcomes the drawback of sphere-shaped nanoparticles. Single-crystalline anatase TiO(2) nanobelts with two dominant surfaces of (101) facet exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activity over the nanosphere counterparts with an identical crystal phase and similar specific surface area. The ab initio density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that the exposed (101) facet of the nanobelts yields an enhanced reactivity with molecular O(2), facilitating the generation of superoxide radical. Moreover, the nanobelts exhibit a lower electron-hole recombination rate than the nanospheres due to the following three reasons: (i) greater charge mobility in the nanobelts, which is enabled along the longitudinal dimension of the crystals; (ii) fewer localized states near the band edges and in the bandgap due to fewer unpassivated surface states in the nanobelts; and (iii) enhanced charge separation due to trapping of photogenerated electrons by chemisorbed molecular O(2) on the (101) facet. Our results suggest that the photocatalysis efficiency of nanocrystals can be significantly improved by tailoring the shape and the surface structure of nanocrystals, which provides a new concept for rational design and development of high-performance photocatalysts.

Polycrystalline CdTe thin films were prepared by close-spaced sublimation (CCS) and were annealed in different condition. The thin films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS). The content distribution and valence state of all elements after annealing were studied. All results show that the as-deposited CdTe thin films are in a cubic phase and have the preferred orientation in (111) direction. After annealing, the peak intensity of (111), (220), (311) grows and the crystal grains grow up, while the crystal boundary decreases. So the compound probabilities of current carrier decrease, therefore shunt resistance and drain current are improved. From detailed analysis of X-ray photoelectron data, it is proposed that tellurium oxides present and its content reduces with depth increasing and that there are TeCl2O building blocks.

Limited data are available on the effects of phosphorus (P) and aluminum (Al) interactions on Citrus spp. growth and photosynthesis. Sour pummelo (Citrus grandis) seedlings were irrigated for 18 weeks with nutrient solution containing 50, 100, 250 and 500 microM KH(2)PO(4)x 0 and 1.2 mM AlCl(3). 6H(2)O. Thereafter, P and Al in roots, stems and leaves, and leaf chlorophyll (Chl), CO(2) assimilation, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) and Chl a fluorescence (OJIP) transients were measured. Under Al stress, P increased root Al, but decreased stem and leaf Al. Shoot growth is more sensitive to Al than root growth, CO(2) assimilation and OJIP transients. Al decreased CO(2) assimilation, Rubisco activity and Chl content, whereas it increased or did not affect intercellular CO(2) concentration. Al affected CO(2) assimilation more than Rubisco and Chl under 250 and 500 microM P. Al decreased root, stem and leaf P, leaf maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry (F(v)/F(m)) and total performance index (PI(tot,abs)), but increased leaf minimum fluorescence (F(o)), relative variable fluorescence at K- and I-steps. P could alleviate Al-induced increase or decrease for all these parameters. We conclude that P alleviated Al-induced inhibition of growth and impairment of the whole photosynthetic electron transport chain from photosystem II (PSII) donor side up to the reduction of end acceptors of photosystem I (PSI), thus preventing photosynthesis inhibition through increasing Al immobilization in roots and P level in roots and shoots. Al-induced impairment of the whole photosynthetic electron transport chain may be associated with growth inhibition.

The electromagnetic lower-hybrid drift instability (LHDI) in the intermediate-wavelength regime k&#95;(y)sqrt[rho&#95;(i)rho&#95;(e)] approximately 1 , where k&#95;(y) and rho&#95;(e,i) are the wave vector and the electron and ion gyroradii, respectively, in a thin plasma sheet containing electrons and H+ and O+ ions is examined using kinetic theory. It is shown that the growth rate of the LHDI first decreases and then increases with increase in the O+ content and temperature, with a minimum at a moderate level of the latter. The results can be relevant to understanding magnetic reconnection in the presence of LHDI.

Objective: To clarify the change of serum thyroid hormone levels during perioperation period of coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG)., Methods: The levels of serum thyroid hormones (TT(3), TT(4), FT(3), FT(4), TSH, rT(3)) were measured by chemical-luminal and RIA in 62 patients at certain time in perioperation period, as well as 30 normal volunteers on a fasting basis. SPSS 10.0 was used for statistic analysis., Results: The levels of serum thyroid hormones had no significant difference between controls and patients before CABG. At 10 min and 60 min after giving heparin, serum TT(4), FT(4) levels in patients during operation elevated significantly than before (P < 0.01), however, at 2 h after operation, serum TT(3), TT(4), FT(3), FT(4), rT(3), TSH levels had no significant changes. Serum TT(3), TT(4), FT(3), FT(4), TSH levels at 24 h and 72 h after operation were significantly lower in patients than before CABG (P < 0.01). Especially at 24 h, serum TT(3), FT(3) levels decreased by 52.7% and 46.6% than before respectively, while serum rT(3) levels increased significantly (P < 0.01) and serum TT(3), rT(3) levels decreased significantly (P < 0.01). The serum TT(4), FT(3), FT(4), TSH levels didn't return to normal at 7 d after operation., Conclusion: Elevated serum TT(4), FT(4) levels are present in acute period in patients accepted CABG. Decreased serum T(3) and FT(3) levels after CABG may indicate a bad prediction.

Background: Little information is available on the amelioration of boron (B) on aluminum (Al)-induced photosynthesis inhibition. Sour pummelo (Citrus grandis) seedlings were irrigated for 18 weeks with nutrient solution containing 4 B levels (2.5, 10, 25 and 50 microM H3BO3) x 2 Al levels (0 and 1.2 mM AlCl3.6H2O). The objectives of this study were to determine how B alleviates Al-induced growth inhibition and to test the hypothesis that Al-induced photosynthesis inhibition can be alleviated by B via preventing Al from getting into shoots., Results: B had little effect on plant growth, root, stem and leaf Al, leaf chlorophyll (Chl), CO2 assimilation, ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco), Chl a fluorescence (OJIP) transient and related parameters without Al stress except that root, stem and leaf B increased with increasing B supply and that 50 muM B decreased slightly root dry weight. Al-treated roots, stems and leaves displayed a higher or similar B. B did not affect root Al under Al stress, but decreased stem and leaf Al level. Shoot growth is more sensitive to Al stress than root growth, CO2 assimilation, Chl, Rubisco, OJIP transient and most related parameters. Al-treated leaves showed decreased CO2 assimilation, but increased or similar intercellular CO2 concentration. Both initial and total Rubisco activity in Al-treated leaves decreased to a lesser extent than CO2 assimilation. Al decreased maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry and total performance index, but increased minimum fluorescence, K-band, relative variable fluorescence at J- and I-steps. B could alleviate Al-induced increase or decrease for all these parameters. Generally speaking, the order of B effectiveness was 25 microM > 10 microM >or= 50 microM (excess B) > 2.5 microM., Conclusion: We propose that Al-induced photosynthesis inhibition was mainly caused by impaired photosynthetic electron transport chain, which may be associated with growth inhibition. B-induced amelioration of root inhibition was probably caused by B-induced changes in Al speciation and/or sub-cellular compartmentation. However, B-induced amelioration of shoot and photosynthesis inhibition and photoinhibitory damage occurring at both donor and acceptor sides of photosystem II could be due to less Al accumulation in shoots.

ZnTe and ZnTe : Cu polycrystalline films were fabricated by means of co-evaporating at room temperature. The sturcture and distribution of various elements were studied by XPS and XRD. The XRD results show that the phase structure of the films deposited at different substrate temperature almost remains unchanged, XPS analysis shows that the compositional dependence of sputtering time is different for the films deposited at different deposition rate. The distribution of Cu in the film grows with the increase in the sputtering time, and reaches a maximum, then falls down rapidly. According to the transformation of the distribution of Cu we excogitated how to prevent Cu diffusion in ZnTe films. Considering Cu as a function of time, ZnTe films were first deposited at the substrate temperature of 70 degrees C, and then ZnTe : Cu films were deposited at room temperature, effectively preventing the diffusion of Cu atom, and thus improving the efficiency of CdTe solar cells.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPD) cDNA was cloned by RT-PCR using total RNA from Tremella fuciformis as template with a pair of degenerate primers. Then, a 500-bp 5'-upstream promoter region of the gene encoding GPD from T. fuciformis genomic DNA was isolated by thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR. The cloned promoter was fused to 5'-upstream of enhanced green fluorescent protein gene to construct T. fuciformis expression vector pCB-TEGFP with hygromycin gene as a selectable marker. Electroporation was performed to transfer plasmid DNA of pCB-TEGFP into yeast-like conidia from T. fuciformis. Molecular evidence, including PCR analysis, fluorescence detection, fluorescence spectra assay, and SDS-PAGE, indicated that the EGFP gene had been integrated into the genome of transgenic T. fuciformis strains and was expressed successfully. The results also showed that this promoter could be used to carry out regulated expression of heterologous gene products in T. fuciformis.

In the present paper, the factors of influence on the deposition rate of CdS films prepared by close-spaced sublimation (CSS) were first studied systematically, and it was found from the experiments that the deposition rate increased with the raised temperature of sublimation source, while decreased with the raised substrate temperature and the deposition pressure. The structure, morphology and light transmittance of the prepared samples were tested subsequently, and the results show: (1) The CdS films deposited under different oxygen partial pressure all present predominating growth lattice orientation (103), and further more the films will be strengthened after annealed under CdCl2 atmosphere. (2) The AFM images of CdS show that the films are compact and uniform in grain diameter, and the grain size becomes larger with the increased substrate temperature. Along with it, the film roughness was also augmented. (3) The transmittance in the shortwave region of visible light through the CdS films would be enhanced when its thickness is reduced, and that will help improve the shortwave spectral response of CdTe solar cells. Finally, the prepared CdS films were employed to fabricate CdTe solar cells, which have achieved a conversion efficiency of 10.29%, and thus the feasibility of CSS process in the manufacture of CdTe solar cells was validated primarily.

The metal materials with high work function should be used as the back electrode of CdTe solar cells. In the present paper, the back contact performances of CdTe solar cells with Au film and Ni film, respectively, were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). After exfoliating the back electrode film, it was found that Au on the surface of ZnTe/ZnTe:Cu complex back contact layer is in the form of Au atoms and the concentration and depth of Ni diffusing into the ZnTe/ZnTe:Cu back contact layer are higher than that of Au. What's more, some Ni changes into Ni(x)+ ion which leads to rich Te ions in ZnTe/ZnTe:Cu back contact layer. So the diffusing concentration is increased, which makes the characters of CdTe improved. In the samples, the displacement of either Te or Zn peak position changes little, which indicates that both Te and Zn do not change in the modality.

Seedlings of Citrus grandis (L.) Osbeck cv. Tuyou were irrigated daily for 5 months with nutrient solution containing 0 (control), 0.2, 0.6 or 1.6 mM aluminum (Al) from AlCl(3).6H(2)O. Shoot growth was more sensitive to Al toxicity than root growth, gas exchange, chlorophyll (Chl) concentration, polyphasic Chl a fluorescence (OJIP) induction and related parameters. Leaves of Al-treated plants showed decreased CO(2) assimilation and Chl concentration, yet intercellular CO(2) concentration increased and ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) activity was unchanged. Chlorophyll a fluorescence induction analysis of Al-stressed leaves showed a large rise at the O-step and a large depression at the P-step, accompanied by two new bands at 300 micros (K-band) and at about 150 micros (L-band). Maximum fluorescence, maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry, oxygen-evolving complex (OEC), quantum yield of electron transport, quantum yield of electron transport from Q(A) (-) to the Photosystem I end electron acceptors, IP phase and total performance index were decreased in leaves of Al-treated plants, whereas minimum fluorescence, relative variable fluorescence at the J-step and I-step, and dissipated energy were increased. We propose that impaired electron transport capacity accompanied by lack of reducing equivalents were the main factors contributing to decreased CO(2) assimilation in Al-treated plants. Aluminum-induced photoinhibition occurring at both the donor (i.e., the OEC) and the acceptor sides of Photosystem II may be associated with growth inhibition. Besides decreased light absorption due to reduced Chl concentration, enhanced energy dissipation protected the leaves of Al-treated plants from photo-oxidative damage in high light.

Aim: To explore and compare the radiochemical behavior and biological property of anti-sense oligonuc-leotide (ASON) labeled with technetium-99m using N-hydroxysuccinimidyl S-acetylmercaptoacetyltriglycline (NHS-MAG(3)) and hydrazinonictinamide derivative (HYNIC)., Methods: After HYNIC and NHS-MAG(3) were synthesized, ASON was labeled with technetium-99m using HYNIC and NHS-MAG(3) as a bifunctional chelator. The in vivo and in vitro stability, binding rates of labeled compounds to serum albumen, biodistribution of (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON and (99m)Tc-HYNIC-ASON in BALB/C mouse and its HT29 tumor cellular uptake were compared., Results: The labeling efficiency and stability of (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON were significantly higher than those of (99m)Tc-HYNIC-ASON (P = 0.02, and P = 0.03, respectively). (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON had a significantly lower rate of binding to serum albumen than (99m)Tc-HYNIC-ASON (P < 0.05). In contrast to (99m)Tc-HYNIC-ASON, the biodistribution of (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON was significantly lower in blood, heart, liver and stomach (P < 0.05), slightly lower in intestines and spleen (P > 0.05) and significantly higher in lung and kidney (P < 0.05). The HT29 tumor cellular uptake rate of (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON was significantly higher than that of (99m)Tc-HYNIC-ASON (P < 0.05)., Conclusion: (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON shows superior radiochemical behaviors and biological properties than (99m)Tc-HYNIC-ASON. (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-ASON is a potential radiopharmaceutical agent for in vivo application.

CdS(y)Te(1-y) (0 < or = y < or = 1) polycrystalline thin films were prepared on glass substrates by co-evaporation of powders of CdTe and CdS. For the characterization of the structure and composition of the CdS(y)Te(1-y) thin films the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used. The results indicate that the values of sulfur content y detected and controlled by the quartz wafer detector show good agreement with the EDS results. The films were found to be cubic for x < 0. 3, and hexagonal for x > or = 0.3. The 20-50 nm of grain sizes for CdS(y)Te(1-y) thin films were calculated using a method of XRD analysis. Finally, the optical properties of CdS(y)Te(1-y) thin films were characterized by UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy alone. According to a method from Swanepoel, together with the first-order Sellmeier model, the thickness, of d-535 nm, energy gap of E(g)-1.41 eV, absorption coefficient, alpha(lambda) and refractive index, n(lambda) of CdS(0.22) Te(0.78) thin films were determined from the transmittance at normal incidence of light in the wavelength range 300-2 500 nm. The results also indicate that the CdS(y)Te(1-y) thin films with any composition (0 < or = y < or = 1) can be prepared by co-evaporation, and the method to characterize the optical properties of CdS(y)Te(1-y) thin films can be implemented for other semiconductor thin films.

Hydrogen titanate (H(2)Ti(3)O(7)) nanotubes (TNTs) have been synthesized by a one-step hydrothermal processing. Lactate oxidase (LOx) enzyme has been immobilized on the three-dimensional porous TNT network to make an electrochemical biosensor for lactate detection. Cyclic voltammetry and amperometry tests reveal that the LOx enzyme, which is supported on TNTs, maintains their substrate-specific catalytic activity. The nanotubes offer the pathway for direct electron transfer between the electrode surface and the active redox centers of LOx, which enables the biosensor to operate at a low working potential and to avoid the influence of the presence of O(2) on the amperometric current response. The biosensor exhibits a sensitivity of 0.24 µA cm(-2) mM(-1), a 90% response time of 5 s, and a linear response in the range from 0.5 to 14 mM and the redox center of enzyme obviates the need of redox mediators for electrochemical enzymatic sensors, which is attractive for the development of reagentless biosensors.

In order to improve the conversion efficiency of the CdTe solar cells, it is necessary to decrease the thickness of CdS layer. However, the decrease in CdS thickness may lead to adverse effects on the solar cells. Therefore, a high-resistance transparent layer (intrinsic SnO2) has been used as a buffer layer between the transparent conducting oxide (TCO) and CdS layer. In the present paper, SnO2 polycrystalline thin films were prepared by magnetic reactive sputtering. The properties of the films before and after annealing were studied by XRD and XPS. The results revealed that the films annealed at 550 degrees C for 30 minutesare polycrystalline SnO2 with a single phase of tetragonal structure and have orientation of (110) direction. XPS investigation shows that after annealing the oxygen content of the film increases, O1s peak shifts to lower energies, and SnO is oxidized into SnO2, After annealing the intrinsic SnO2 films of high-resistance as a buffer layer are very suitable for the CdTe solar cells.

ZnTe and ZnTe: Cu polycrystalline films were fabricated by means of co-evaporating at room temperature. The relationships between conductivity of the films and temperature were measured. Chemical compositions of ZnTe and ZnTe: Cu polycrystalline films were obtained by using XPS, and the changes of chemical composition before and after anneal were analyzed. The results showed that the conductivity of ZnTe rose linearly with the temperature, and Te was enriched on the margin of every sample's surface; With the rise in temperature, the conductivity of ZnTe: Cu films became abnormal, the oxidization of Te became very obvious and Zn diffused from the bulk to the surface. The composition became more uniform and all peaks became stronger. Carrier concentration caused by CuxTe appeared, resulting in the abnormal relationship between conductivity of the films and temperature.

In this article, the effects of TiO2 surface fluorination and sulfation, on the active oxygen species formed at the reduction site in the photocatalytic process, namely O2*- and H2O2, were investigated from a new perspective. The superoxide radical, (O2*-), was determined by colorimetry of nitroblue tetrazolium, a prominent O2*- scavenger. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was estimated by using the iodide-starch method. In the naked TiO2 photocatalysis, O2*-, though less reactive, was a very important intermediate. When the TiO2 surface was fluorinated, more O2*- and H2O2 were produced, which indicated that the surface modification could greatly reduce the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes, thus enhancing the photocatalytic rate. In the sulfated system, photocatalysis proceeded with a more complicated mechanism. These results added support to the view of fluoride-induced enhancement and sulfide's nonappreciable inhibition effect.

Experiments were carried out to investigate the influence of TiO2 surface fluorination on the photodegradation of a representative organic cationic compound, Methylene Blue (MB). The electropositive MB shows poor adsorption on TiO2 surface; its degradation performs a HO-radical-mediated mechanism. In the F-modified system, the kinetic reaction rate enlarged more than 2.5 fold that was attributed mainly to the accumulating adsorption of MB and the increased photogenerated hole available on the F-modified TiO2 surface.

The objective of the present research was to develop a nondestructive technique for the analysis of heavy elements of regulated substances in electrotechnical products using an XRF spectrometer. Reference samples were prepared within-house reference materials containing the elements Cr, Cd, Br, Pb, and Hg, and calibration curves of all elements exhibited a good linearity from 100 to 1 500 mg x kg(-1). Thus, the calibration curve method was effective in the determination of heavy elements in electrotechnical products. The minimum detection limits (MDLs) calculated with reference material (BCR-681) ranged from 0. 27 (Br) to 1. 10 mg x kg(-1) (Cd). The interference from background and spectra overlap was discussed. The matrix effect was corrected by experience coefficients, using scattered radiation as an internal standard. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by the analysis of certified reference material of BCR-681. The results are in agreement with certified values with a precision of less than 5. 0%.

CdTe nanocrystals have been successfully fabricated by a mechanical alloying process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns demonstrate that a single-phase CdTe compound with a zinc blende structure has been formed after ball milling elemental Cd and Te mixture powders for 27 h. The large broadening effect for the width of the {111} diffraction peak of uncapped CdTe nanocrystals on smaller size was observed in slowly scanned XRD patterns. The X-ray photoelectron spectrum was used to study the surface of the uncapped CdTe nanocrystals within both core level and valence band regions. The presence of tellurium oxide film on the surface of the uncapped CdTe nanocrystals has been detected in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum of the Te 3d core level, which was comparable to the observed amorphous oxide thin layer on the surface of uncapped CdTe nanocrystals in a high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) image. The energy of the valence band maximum for uncapped CdTe powders blue shifts to the higher energy side with smaller particle sizes. In UV-visible optical absorption spectra of the suspension solution containing uncapped CdTe nanocrystals, the absorption peaks were locating within the ultraviolet region, which shifted toward the higher energy side with prolonged ball milling time. Both blue shifts of valence band maximum energy and absorption peaks with decreasing particle size provide a unique pathway to reveal the quantum confinement effect of uncapped CdTe nanocrystals.

Ferromagnetic self-assembled alpha-MnAs quantum dots (QD) were grown epitaxially on metal catalyst-grown InAs nanowires (NW) by chemical vapor deposition. Magnetic force microscopy measurements demonstrated that the QDs are stable, single-domain ferromagnets with T(c) values of approximately 310 K. Single QD switching was demonstrated at fields as low as 60 Oe. The hybrid ferromagnetic/semiconductor QD/NW properties provide a promising basis for the development of nanowire spin-valves and magnetic memory devices.

Aim: To investigate the role of SPECT/CT in the diagnosis of hepatic hemangiomas whose anatomical positions are not ideal, situated adjacent to the heart, the inferior cava, hepatic vessels or abdominal aorta, etc., Methods: The hepatic perfusion, blood pool, and fusion imaging were carried out using SPECT/CT in 54 patients, who were suspected for hepatic hemangiomas. When the anatomical positions were not ideal, the diagnosis was difficult by SPECT only. So the information of computed tomography (CT) was applied to help in diagnosing. The results were recorded as hemangiomas or not., Results: Of the 54 patients, 31 patients were diagnosed as suffering from hepatic hemangiomas. The anatomical positions of eight patients' hepatic hemangiomas (25.81%) were not ideal. Among these lesions of the eight patients, three patients' hepatic lesions were located near to the abdominal aorta, one to the heart, and four to the inferior cava. In addition, six abnormal radioactivity accumulation regions, adjacent to the heart and inferior cava, with the help of CT, were confirmed to be the imaging of inferior cava other than hepatic hemangiomas., Conclusion: When the anatomical positions of hepatic hemangiomas are not good enough for diagnosis, the fusion imaging of SPECT/CT is a simple and efficient method for differential diagnosis.

Objective: To search for an effective therapy for aorto-arteritis of arterial type in the head and arm., Methods: Eighty cases were randomly divided into an acupuncture and moxibustion group and a medication group, 40 cases in each group. Renying (ST 9), Taiyuan (LU 9), Jiquan (HT 1) and other acupoints were selected in the acupuncture group, and the medication group were treated with intravenous dripping of Fufang Danshen Liquid. Their therapeutic effects were observed., Results: The clinical cured rate and the total effective rate were 15.0% and 95.0% in the acupuncture group, and 0 and 75.0% in the medication group, respectively, with a very significant difference between the two groups in the therapeutic effect (P<0.01)., Conclusion: Acupuncture and moxibustion has a definite therapeutic effect, which is significantly superior to that of the routine medication for aorto-arteritis of arterial type in the head and arm.

The structure and characteristics of CdTe thin films are dependent on the working atmosphere states in close-spaced sublimation. In the present paper, CdTe polycrystalline thin films were deposited by CSS in mixture atmosphere of argon and oxygen. The physical mechanism of CSS was analyzed, and the temperature distribution in CSS system was measured. The dependence of preliminary nucleus creation on the atmosphere states (involving component and pressure) was studied. Transparencies were measured and optic energy gaps were calculated. The results show that: (1) The CdTe films deposited in different atmospheres are cubic structure. With increasing oxygen concentration, a increases and reaches the maximum at 6% oxygen concentration, then reduces, and increases again after passing the point at 12% oxygen concentration. Among them, the sample depositing at 9% oxygen concentration is the best. The optic energy gaps are 1.50-1.51 eV for all CdTe films. (2) The samples depositing at different pressures at 9% oxygen concentration are all cubical structure of CdTe, and the diffraction peaks of CdS and SnO2:F still appear. With the gas pressure increasing, the crystal size of CdTe minishes, the transparency of the thin film goes down, and the absorption side shifts to the short-wave direction. (3) The polycrystalline thin films with high quality deposit in 4 minutes under the depositing condition that the substrate temperature is 550 degrees C, and source temperature is 620 degrees C at 9% oxygen concentration.

Background: The results of clinical trials of rapamycin-eluting stents reduce restenosis have been quite promising. The main purpose of this study was to characterize the in vivo pharmacokinetics of high dose rapamycin (Rapa)-eluting stents in a miniswine coronary model., Methods: Ten miniswines underwent placement of 18 high dose Rapa-eluting stents in the left anterior descending and right coronary arteries. At the planned times of the 1.5th, 12th, 24th hour, 3th, 7th and 28th day, the animals (n = 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, and 2, respectively) were euthanized after completion of coronary angiography. Blood samples were obtained at 0, 10, 20, 30 minutes; 1, 2, 6, 24 hours; and 3, 7, 28 days to determine systemic Rapa levels. Rapa levels in whole blood, arterial wall, heart, renal and liver tissues were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy., Results: Peak whole blood concentration (Cmax), time to peak concentration (tmax), elimination half-life (t1/2beta), area under the curve (AUC), and apparent systemic clearance (Cl/F) were (10.91 +/- 1.28) ng/ml, (2.0 +/- 0.2) hours, (7.25 +/- 0.63) hours, (1.15 +/- 0.11) ng x h x ml(-1), and (180 +/- 12) ml x h(-1) x kg(-1), respectively. More than 95% Rapa detected is localized in the coronary artery surrounding the stent and heart., Conclusion: Stent-based delivery of Rapa via a copolymer stent is feasible and safe. This strategy holds promise for the prevention of stent restenosis.

Aim: To investigate the feasibility for antisense imaging of the colon cancer with liposome-entrapped 99 m-technetium labeled antisense oligonucleotides as tracers., Methods: Fifteen mer single-stranded aminolinked phosphorothioate antisense oligonucleotides of c-myc mRNA were labeled with 99mTc-pertechnetate, then purified and finally entrapped with liposomes to form the labeling compounds, liposome-entrapped 99mTc-labeled antisense oligonucleotides. The LS-174-T cells (colon of adenocarcinoma cell line) were incubated with the labeling compounds to test the uptake rates of LS-174-T cells. Later on, a model of 30 tumor bearing nude mice was constructed by inoculating with 5 x 10(6) of LS-174-T cells at right flank of each nude mouse. About 10 d later, the model were administered by intravenous injection of the liposome-entrapped 99mTc-labeled antisense oligonucleotides. Then some of the tumour bearing nude mice were sacrificed at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 h after intravenous injection, and proper quantity of liver, spleen, tumor, etc. was obtained. The tissues were counted in a gamma counter, and after correction for decay and background activity, expressed as a percentage of the injected dose. The others whose anterior and posterior whole-body scans were obtained at 1, 1.5, 2, 4, 6 and 24 h with a dual-head bodyscan camera equipped with parallel-hole low-energy collimaters. The ratios of radioactive counts in tumor to that in contralateral equivalent region of abdomen were calculated., Results: The uptake rates of LS-174-T cells for liposome-entrapped 99mTc-labeled antisense oligonucleotides increased as time prolonged and reach the peak (17.77 +/- 2.41%) at 7 h. The biodistributions showed that the radioactivity in the tumor (13.46 +/- 0.20%) of injected dose was the highest at 2 h of intravenous injection of liposome-entrapped 99mTc-labeled antisense oligonucleotides, and then decreased sharply to 4.58 +/- 0.45% at 4 h. The tumor was shown clearly in the whole-body scan at 2 h of intravenous injection. The ratios, radioactive counts in tumor to that in contralateral equivalent region of abdomen (1.7332 +/- 0.2537), was the highest one at 2 h after intravenous injection of liposome-entrapped 99mTc-labeled antisense oligonucleotides., Conclusion: The liposome-entrapped 99mTc-labeled antisense oligonucleotides deserve being developed into radiopharmaceutics for the colon cancer imaging., (Copyright 2004 The WJG Press ISSN)

A series of low-melting, thermally stable cadmium metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) precursors have been synthesized, structurally and spectroscopically characterized, and implemented in growth of highly conductive and transparent CdO thin films. One member of the series, bis(1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionato)(N,N-diethyl-N',N'-dimethyl-ethylenediamine)cadmium(II), Cd(hfa)(2)()(N,N-DE-N',N'-DMEDA), represents a particularly significant improvement over previously available Cd precursors, owing to the low melting point and robust thermal stability. High-quality CdO films were grown by MOCVD on glass and single-crystal MgO(100) between 300 and 412 degrees C. Film growth parameters and substrate surface have large effects on microstructure and electron carrier transport properties. Enhanced mobilities observed for highly biaxially textured films grown on MgO(100) vs glass are attributed, on the basis of DC charge transport and microstructure analysis, to a reduction in neutral impurity scattering and/or to a more densely packed grain microstructure. Although single-grained films grown on MgO(100) exhibit greater mobilities than analogues with discrete approximately 100 nm grains and similar texture, this effect is attributed, on the basis of charge transport and Hall effect measurements as well as optical reflectivity analysis, to differences in carrier concentration rather than to reduced grain boundary scattering. Unprecedented conductivities and mobilities as high as 11,000 S/cm and 307 cm(2)/V.s, respectively, are obtained for epitaxial single-grained films (X-ray diffraction parameters: fwhm(omega) = 0.30 degrees, fwhm(phi) = 0.27 degrees ) grown in situ on MgO(100) at a relatively low temperature (400 degrees C).

Objective: To explore the radiolabeling property of oligonucleotide with 99mTc using NHS-MAG3 as a bifunctional chelator., Methods: Three 15-base single-stranded amine-derivitized oligonucleotides, which were antisense(ASON), sense(SON) and mismatched oligonucleotides(MON) of c-myc oncogene mRNA, were coupled with NHS-MAG3 and labeled with 99mTc. The labeled oligonucleotide was purified by Sephadex G25 column chromatogram, then the stability was evaluated. The labeling efficiency of ON-MAG3 was assessed 15 days, 1 month and 2 months after storage at -20 degrees C. The binding rate of 99mTc-ON with plasma protein was measured by the trichloroacetic acid precipitation method., Results: The average labeling efficiency of 99mTc-ASON, 99mTc-SON and 99mTc-ON was 68.41%, 66.24% and 69.38% respectively, and the radiochemical purity was 96.98%, 95.34% and 94.62%. 99mTc-ON was stable when placed at room temperature or incubated in human serum at 37 degrees C. The labeling efficiency of ON-MAG3 did not significantly change 2 months after storage at -20 degrees C. The plasma protein binding rate of 99mTc-ON was lower than 13%., Conclusion: 99mTc-ON labeled with NHS-MAG3 method showed superior radiochemical characteristics. The labeling efficiency and radiochemical purity were desirable. The label was stable in serum and the binding with plasma protein was low. 99mTc-ON could be a sort of potential radiopharmaceutical for in vivo applications.
