Abstract

The multi-row facility layout problem (MRLP) is an important design problem often encountered in real life. Existing studies on MRLPs typically either ignore clearances between adjacent machines or consider only the minimum clearances. However, separating adjacent machines with clearances greater than the minimum ones may achieve lower material flow cost. In addition, current studies on MRLPs ignore the optimisation of layout area. In this paper, we study a multi-row facility layout problem with extra clearances (MRLP-EC), with the objectives of minimising material flow cost and layout area. A mixed integer programming formulation is established for MRLP-EC. A hybrid approach combining an improved multi-objective greedy randomised adaptive search procedure (mGRASP) and linear programming (LP) is proposed for the problem. The mGRASP is used to optimise machine sequences to obtain a set of non-dominated machine sequences. A segments-based dominance method is suggested to measure the dominance relationship of any pair of machine sequences. LP is used to optimise extra clearances between adjacent machines (i.e. the exact location of each machine) for each non-dominated machine sequence. The proposed approach is compared against an exact method and two multi-objective heuristics. Experiments show that the approach is effective for MRLP-EC and outperforms comparative approaches. 72. A Unified Deep Learning Optimization Paradigm for Lithium-Ion Battery State-of-Health Estimation

Abstract

State-of-Health (SOH) is critical to managing the lifespan of the battery energy storage system. For the data-driven-based method, explicit features have many benefits, but they cannot be constructed automatically. To maximize the use of explicit features and automate its construction and other configuration processes, this article design a unified optimization paradigm for synergizing the three fundamental procedures in the data-driven model, that is, feature extraction, importance assignment, and model parameterization. An Evolutionary Multi-Objective (EMO) method is used to synchronously find a series of non-dominated solutions for the best combination of features, attention layer, and hyper-parameters of the network, which can enable a flexible SOH estimation in various operation conditions. A piecewise aggregate approximation is designed to compress the partial voltage curve while keeping its tendency characteristics. A Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) is used to establish the data-driven model, especially an attention layer is added to finalize the task of feature selection. Experimental results prove the proposed model can achieve accurate SOH estimation and also provide flexible solutions for different scenarios. And results with multi-battery validation and transfer learning demonstrate that the proposed method not only has a high generalization ability but also easily transfers to a new task.

73. Millisecond-Scale Real-Time Scheduling of Buses: A Controller-Based Approach

Abstract

Bus scheduling is vital for public transportation to ensure high transit service quality. In actual bus operation, buses’ travel time may change due to some uncertain factors, which makes the planned scheduling scheme fail to meet users’ actual requirements. This work proposes a Controller-based Bus Scheduling Approach (CBSA). In this approach, each departure time in a timetable is regarded as a decision point, and a controller is devised to select a bus in real-time to depart from the departure time. The controller makes a decision at each departure time to cover all departure times in a given timetable. The controller consists of a Duty Type Converter (DTC) and a Bus Selector (BS). DTC determines bus duty types to improve bus utilization, while BS selects a bus to cover the departure time. Since the controller makes decisions in a real-time manner, it can effectively handle uncertain events and factors (such as uncertain travel time). Some key parameters of the controller are optimized by a particle swarm optimizer (PSO) to improve its performance. CBSA is applied to real-world problem instances. Experimental results show that it outperforms the compared algorithms and a manual scheduling scheme. It can schedule buses in real-time to generate a high-quality scheduling solution under uncertain environments.

Abstract

A DP-TABU algorithm is proposed which can effectively solve the multi-line scheduling problem of single Deport (SD-ML-VSP). The multi-line regional coordinated dispatch of the single-line deport of the bus is to solve the problems of idle low-peak vehicles and insufficient peak capacity in single-line scheduling. The capacity of multiple lines at the same station is adjusted to realize resource sharing such as timetables, vehicles, and drivers. Shared capacity such as bus departure intervals and bus schedules. Taking the regional scheduling of multiple lines at the same station as the service object, a vehicle operation planning model based on the objective of optimal public transportation resources (minimum bus and driver costs) is established to optimize the vehicle dispatching mode of multiple lines. We applied this algorithm to the three lines S105, S107, and S159 of Zhengzhou Public Transport Corporation, and the results proved that the algorithm is effective. Through comparison with manual scheduling and simulated annealing algorithm, the advantages of DP-TABU algorithm in performance optimization and robustness are further verified.
