Recent laboratory experiments have shown that both infant and adult learners can acquire word-referent mappings using cross-situational statistics. The vast majority of the work on this topic has used unfamiliar objects presented on neutral backgrounds as the visual contexts for word learning. However, these laboratory contexts are much different than the real-world contexts in which learning occurs. Thus, the feasibility of generalizing cross-situational learning beyond the laboratory is in question. Adapting the Human Simulation Paradigm, we conducted a series of experiments examining cross-situational learning from children's egocentric videos captured during naturalistic play. Focusing on individually ambiguous naming moments that naturally occur during toy play, we asked how statistical learning unfolds in real time through accumulating cross-situational statistics in naturalistic contexts. We found that even when learning situations were individually ambiguous, learners' performance gradually improved over time. This improvement was driven in part by learners' use of partial knowledge acquired from previous learning situations, even when they had not yet discovered correct word-object mappings. These results suggest that word learning is a continuous process by means of real-time information integration.

Verb learning is important for young children. While mostprevious research has focused on linguistic and conceptualchallenges in early verb learning (e.g. Gentner, 1982, 2006),the present paper examined early verb learning at theattentional level and quantified the input for early verb learningby measuring verb-action co-occurrence statistics in parent-child interaction from the learner’s perspective. To do so, weused head-mounted eye tracking to record fine-grainedmultimodal behaviors during parent-infant joint play, andanalyzed parent speech, parent and infant action, and infantattention at the moments when parents produced verb labels.Our results show great variability across different action verbs,in terms of frequency of verb utterances, frequency ofcorresponding actions related to verb meanings, and infants’attention to verbs and actions, which provide new insights onwhy some verbs are harder to learn than others.

As a commonly used hydraulic control component, the nozzle-flapper servo valve has the advantages of small structure and sensitive dynamic response. Due to the small size and complex structure of the servo valve, the classical control methods based on various feedback information cannot effectively improve its performance. In order to effectively improve the performance of the servo valve, this paper implemented the feedforward control method to suppress the dynamic performance of the armature assembly of the servo valve. The distributed parameters mathematical models of the armature assembly are established and verified which can accurately predict the vibration of the armature assembly. With the mathematical model, the feedforward control signal is calculated based on the real-time velocity, acceleration, and deflection of the armature assembly, respectively. The applicability of different signals is analyzed and the signals calculated by velocity and deflection are verified which can effectively suppress the vibration amplitude of armature assembly. The numerical simulation and experimental methods are implemented to verify the performance of different control signals and the optimal feedforward control signal under different external loads is obtained. Background: Rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels following radical prostatectomy are indicative of a poor prognosis, which may associate with periprostatic adipose tissue (PPAT). Accordingly, we aimed to construct a dynamic online nomogram to predict tumor short-term prognosis based on 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT of PPAT. Methods: Data from 268 prostate cancer (PCa) patients who underwent 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT before prostatectomy were analyzed retrospectively for model construction and validation (training cohort: n = 156; internal validation cohort: n = 65; external validation cohort: n = 47). Radiomics features (RFs) from PET and CT were extracted. Then, the Rad-score was constructed using logistic regression analysis based on the 25 optimal RFs selected through maximal relevance and minimal redundancy, as well as the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator. A nomogram was constructed to predict short-term prognosis which determined by persistent PSA. Results: The Rad-score consisting of 25 RFs showed good discrimination for classifying persistent PSA in all cohorts (all P < 0.05). Based on the logistic analysis, the radiomics-clinical combined model, which contained the optimal RFs and the predictive clinical variables, demonstrated optimal performance at an AUC of 0.85 (95% CI: 0.78—0.91), 0.77 (95% CI: 0.62—0.91) and 0.84 (95% CI: 0.70—0.93) in the training, internal validation and external validation cohorts. In all cohorts, the calibration curve was well-calibrated. Analysis of decision curves revealed greater clinical utility for the radiomics-clinical combined nomogram. Conclusion: The radiomics-clinical combined nomogram serves as a novel tool for preoperative individualized prediction of short-term prognosis among PCa patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lithium–Sulfur (Li─S) batteries are renowned for their high theoretical specific capacity and cost‐effectiveness. Nevertheless, their performance could be impeded by obstacles including lithium dendrite growth and lithium polysulfide (LiPS) shuttle, particularly under harsh conditions. Herein, an economical strategy is reported for modifying polyolefin separators (PP) with covalent organic polymer networks (TPE) to alter Li solvent structure, enhance lithium‐ion transport, and suppress shuttle effects. Combining in situ/ex situ characterization and theoretical calculations, it is demonstrated that the lithiophilic groups (‐C═N‐) in the TPE@PP separator form strong interaction with lithium, facilitating the dissociation of Li─Solvent/LiPS‐solvent to release freer lithium ion and shape a stable solid electrolyte interface rich in LiF and Li3N. The polymer network serves as a "highway" that accelerates Li transport and promotes uniform nucleation behavior. Therefore, the Li|TPE@PP|CNT/S cell enables 60% capacity retention after 2000 cycles at 1.0 C and exhibits stable cycling performance of 100 cycles from ‐40 to 80 °C. Moreover, the pouch cell maintains a capacity of more than 600 mA h g−1 after 30 cycles at 0 °C. Young children's visual environments are dynamic, changing moment-by-moment as children physically and visually explore spaces and objects and interact with people around them. Head-mounted eye tracking offers a unique opportunity to capture children's dynamic egocentric views and how they allocate visual attention within those views. This protocol provides guiding principles and practical recommendations for researchers using head-mounted eye trackers in both laboratory and more naturalistic settings. Head-mounted eye tracking complements other experimental methods by enhancing opportunities for data collection in more ecologically valid contexts through increased portability and freedom of head and body movements compared to screen-based eye tracking. This protocol can also be integrated with other technologies, such as motion tracking and heart-rate monitoring, to provide a high-density multimodal dataset for examining natural behavior, learning, and development than previously possible. This paper illustrates the types of data generated from head-mounted eye tracking in a study designed to investigate visual attention in one natural context for toddlers: free-flowing toy play with a parent. Successful use of this protocol will allow researchers to collect data that can be used to answer questions not only about visual attention, but also about a broad range of other perceptual, cognitive, and social skills and their development.

Children rapidly learn the word-object mappings even though they are facing the challenge of referential uncertainty(Quine,1960). When parents read books to their infants, how do infants learn to associate the words with multiple objectson the page. Using data from parent-child book reading interactions, we analyzed moment-by-moment eye movement datato examine the role of gesture and statistical cues on word learning. Specifically, we investigated 1) whether parent’s andchild’s gestures could direct the child’s attention to the object named by the parent during naturalistic storybook reading; 2)given that parents repeatedly name objects, how statistical information across multiple instances could provide convergingevidence of the correct word-object mapping? Using data jointly created by parents and children in everyday book readingcontext, we demonstrated that both gesture cues and statistical information across multiple instances could dramaticallyreduce referential ambiguity and provide converging evidence of the correct word-object mappings.
