Mastitis is usually caused by a variety of pathogenic bacteria that seriously impact the health and milk-production ability of dairy cows, with consequent, economically detrimental effects on the dairy industry. Forsythoside A (FTA), isolated from the fruit and leaves of Forsythia suspensa (Thunb.) Vahl (Oleaceae), has been reported to have significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. However, it is not clear whether FTA exerts a protective effect against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced bovine mastitis and its potential gene signature. In this study, high-throughput sequencing technology was performed to analyze the differences between the mRNA and enrichment pathway of bovine mammary epithelial cells of the control, LPS, and LPS + FTA groups. The results showed that there were 139 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (p-value < 0.05, |log2FoldChange| > 1, FPKM > 1) in the LPS group compared with the control group, including 121 up-regulated genes and 18 down-regulated genes, which were mainly enriched in the cellular response to lipopolysaccharide, cytokine activity, protein binding, and IL-17 signaling pathway based on Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis, respectively. Compared with the control group and LPS + FTA group, there were 349 DEGs, including 322 up-regulated genes and 27 down-regulated genes. They were mainly enriched in protein localization to organelles, centrosomes, binding, and the IL-17 signaling pathway, based on GO and KEGG analysis. Compared to the LPS group, the LPS + FTA group had 272 DEGs, including 259 up-regulated genes and 13 down-regulated genes, which were mainly enriched in RNA processing, IL-6 receptor binding, and the lysosome pathway, based on GO and KEGG analyses. It can be seen that LPS stimulation induced the expression of inflammation-related genes, IL-17 and IL-6, whereas FTA treatment promoted the expression of the spliceosome-, lysosome-, and oxidative stress-related genes HSP70, HSPA8, and PARP2. The study utilized RNA-sequencing analysis of FTA against LPS-challenged bovine mammary epithelial cells to explore key mRNA findings that may be strongly associated with inflammation and oxidative stress, and provides a theoretical reference for further elucidation of molecular mechanisms of bovine mastitis and therapeutic effects of FTA against bovine mastitis.

As one of the most important parameters, water vapor is very valuable for the studies of extreme weather events and climatic phenomena. The GNSS have been proven to be a relatively new technique for sounding atmospheric water vapor which has experienced unprecedented developments over the past decade due to the rapid deployment of wide-spread space- and ground-based infrastructures. This significant development and the long-term accumulation of GNSS data, has offered a strong data support and new opportunity to advance our understanding of climate change and extreme weather events. In the meanwhile, the fifth resurgence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has empowered us in the ability of big geodetic data analytics and data mining. All these have helped us in the understanding the atmospheric dynamic process, and mining the detailed information of the formation, evolution, development and dissolution of extreme weather events and complicated atmospheric process.This contribution presents a summary of our 10-year relevant research in the area that involves a full spatial domain of ground-, air- and space-based systems and a comprehensive technological domain of GNSS/geodesy, remote sensing, meteorology and atmosphere. First, the background, current status and recent international frontier developments of the GNSS tropospheric sounding technique are summarized. Then, the theory, technical features and major advancement of the GNSS-derived atmospheric products in the applications of climate analyses and extreme weather forecasting are presented. Finally, the challenges, opportunities and future prospectives in terms of the technique and its innovative applications of national and international significance are provided., The 28th IUGG General Assembly (IUGG2023) (Berlin 2023)

The exploration and utilization of space resources is a new wave of international interest. The US Space Resource Exploration and Utilization Act in 2015 was a tipping point for the accelerated process of new space competition. The primary purpose of extra-terrestrial mining is to search for minerals, elements and water from asteroids and minor planets that are close to the Earth. Geospatial science and technology, geodesy and remote sensing in particular, plays a critical role in this huge space mining systematic engineering endeavor, as is the case of surveying for large engineering projects. This contribution argues that the combination of mining and geospatial technology is a “must” in the early stage of space endeavor of resources exploration and utilization. The current status of space mining from a geodetic perspective and the potential targets of space resources exploration are presented. It is concluded that, based on the current level of scientific and technological development and the potential value of known space resources, mining the near-Earth asteroids as the first step is feasible and will be one of the major trends of space resources exploration and an important part of space economy. The priorities of space mining that need urgent attention are identified, which includes but not limited to space resources exploitation, space intelligent robots related design and manufacture, prospecting and mining of space resources, safety and in-situ utilization of space resources. This document traces the evolution of my musical work of the past three years. It presents some of the interests I had developed over the course of my qualifying examinations for the PhD at the University of California San Diego, and discusses how they have affected my compositional projects. Three major projects are included in this portfolio: 1) while twigs make minor adjustments, an 8-minute chamber composition for soprano and Pierrot ensemble commissioned and premiered in March 2015 by UCSD’s Palimpsest Ensemble, 2) new true mirrors, furrowed, flooded, extended quite far, an 11-minute composition for large orchestra and treble choir with two violin soloists, written for the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus as the recipient of their 2016-17 season’s Thomas Nee Commission, and 3) my site-specific sound design installations for The Human Body Time Machine, an evening-length collaboratively created dance production performed as the UCSD Theatre & Dance Department’s 2017-18 season’s gradWORKS production.
