Abstract Track displacement is an important factor of track irregularity. Existing researches related with track displacement prediction generally ignore the influence from underground construction engineering such as shield tunneling, resulting in inaccurate estimation of track displacement. To fill this gap, we propose a three-stage framework to predict the track displacement when the shield tunnel under crosses the existing tunnel. Firstly, by considering the curved shield tunneling, a three-dimensional model is constructed to estimate the total ground displacement during the whole tunneling process. Furthermore, the soil-tunnel interaction model is established to estimate the deformation of the existing tunnel. To tackle the issue of unknown node displacements, cubic splines are used to interpolate the unknown values of tunnel displacements. On this basis, the direct stiffness method is used to estimate the track displacement and to calculate the track irregularity. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified and the prediction performance on the track irregularity is evaluated using a real engineering case and the finite element simulation. The main contributions of this article lie in the modeling of the curved scenario for the estimation of the ground loss, as well as the combination of cubic splines and direct stiffness method, which improve the accuracy of the track displacement estimation during shield tunneling.

Abstract Background In China, public medical insurance has expanded rapidly in the past 20 years. Many studies have discussed the benefits of medical insurance in improving residents’ health and financial stability, and increasing the utilization of medical services. Less attention is paid to the effect of medical insurance on family support between parents and children. This study focuses on the effect of medical insurance on promoting family financial support in China. Method Fifty-five thousand sixty-two individual samples were obtained from four waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS): 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2018. Linear-regression model and propensity score matching are used to determine the relationship between medical insurance and family financial support. Then, mediation model is introduced to identify the mediation mechanisms. Also, moderation model is used to estimate the moderation effect of parental education and health. Results Medical insurance has significantly increased family financial support between the insured parents and their children. Moreover, this positive effect is heterogeneous since only families living in rural areas were affected, and the direction of family financial support changed with the aging of the parents. The welfare of medical insurance on financial status have also been proven in this paper. The results indicate that medical insurance reduces the out-of-pocket ratio of medical expenses and increases health investment, which can perform as as two mediation mechanisms to affect family financial support. Besides, the education and health status of the insured parents play a role in moderating the effect of medical insurance.

Abstract The conversion of lignocellulosic feedstocks to fermentable sugar for biofuel production is inefficient, and most strategies to enhance efficiency directly target lignin biosynthesis, with associated negative growth impacts. Here we demonstrate, for both laboratory- and field-grown plants, that expression of Pag-miR408 in poplar (Populus alba × P. glandulosa) significantly enhances saccharification, with no requirement for acid-pretreatment, while promoting plant growth. The overexpression plants show increased accessibility of cell walls to cellulase and scaffoldin cellulose-binding modules. Conversely, Pag-miR408 loss-of-function poplar shows decreased cell wall accessibility. Overexpression of Pag-miR408 targets three Pag-LACCASES, delays lignification, and modestly reduces lignin content, S/G ratio and degree of lignin polymerization. Meanwhile, the LACCASE loss of function mutants exhibit significantly increased growth and cell wall accessibility in xylem. Our study shows how Pag-miR408 regulates lignification and secondary growth, and suggest an effective approach towards enhancing biomass yield and saccharification efficiency in a major bioenergy crop.

In the treatment process of brain tumors, it is of great importance to develop a set of MRI image segmentation methods with high accuracy and low cost. In order to extract the feature information for each region of the brain tumor more effectively, this paper proposes a new model Ga-U-Net based on Gabor convolution and an attention mechanism. Based on 3D U-Net, Gabor convolution is added at the shallow layer of the encoder, which is able to learn the local structure and texture information of the tumor better. After that, the CBAM attention mechanism is added after the output of each layer of the encoder, which not only enhances the network’s ability to perceive the brain tumor boundary information but also reduces some redundant information by allocating the attention to the two dimensions of space and channel. Experimental results show that the model performs well for multiple tumor regions (WT, TC, ET) on the brain tumor dataset BraTS 2021, with Dice coefficients of 0.910, 0.897, and 0.856, respectively, which are improved by 0.3%, 2%, and 1.7% compared to the base network, the U-Net network, with an average Dice of 0.887 and an average Hausdorff distance of 9.12, all of which are better than a few other state-of-the-art deep models for biomedical image segmentation.

Abstract Skin is the largest organ of the human body. It plays a vital role as the body’s first barrier: stopping chemical, radiological damage and microbial invasion. The importance of skin to the human body can never be overstated. Delayed wound healing after a skin injury has become a huge challenge in healthcare. In some situations, this can have very serious and even life-threatening effects on people’s health. Various wound dressings have been developed to promote quicker wound healing, including hydrogels, gelatin sponges, films, and bandages, all work to prevent the invasion of microbial pathogens. Some of them are also packed with bioactive agents, such as antibiotics, nanoparticles, and growth factors, that help to improve the performance of the dressing it is added to. Recently, bioactive nanoparticles as the bioactive agent have become widely used in wound dressings. Among these, functional inorganic nanoparticles are favored due to their ability to effectively improve the tissue-repairing properties of biomaterials. MXene nanoparticles have attracted the interest of scholars due to their unique properties of electrical conductivity, hydrophilicity, antibacterial properties, and biocompatibility. The potential for its application is very promising as an effective functional component of wound dressings. In this paper, we will review MXene nanoparticles in skin injury repair, particularly its synthesis method, functional properties, biocompatibility, and application.

BackgroundSurgery represents the only cure for hilar cholangiocarcinoma (HC). However, laparoscopic radical resection remains technically challenging owing to the complex anatomy and reconstruction required during surgery. Therefore, reports on laparoscopic surgery (LS) for HC, especially for types III and IV, are limited. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of laparoscopic radical surgery for Bismuth types III and IV HC.MethodsThe data of 16 patients who underwent LS and 9 who underwent open surgery (OS) for Bismuth types III and IV HC at Mianyang Central Hospital, School of Medicine, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, between December 2017 and January 2022 were analyzed. Basic patient information, Bismuth–Corlette type, AJCC staging, postoperative complications, pathological findings, and follow-up results were evaluated.ResultsSixteen patients underwent LS and 9 underwent OS for HC. According to the preoperative imaging data, there were four cases of Bismuth type IIIa, eight of type IIIb, and four of type IV in the LS group and two of type IIIa, four of type IIIb, and three of type IV in the OS group (P>0.05). There were no significant differences in age, sex, ASA score, comorbidity, preoperative percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage rate, history of abdominal surgery, or preoperative laboratory tests between the two groups (P>0.05). Although the mean operative time and mean intraoperative blood loss were higher in the LS group than in OS group, the differences were not statistically significant (P=0.121 and P=0.115, respectively). Four patients (25%) in the LS group and two (22.2%) in the OS group experienced postoperative complications (P>0.05). No significant differences were observed in other surgical outcomes and pathologic findings between the two groups. Regarding the tumor recurrence rate, there was no difference between the groups (P>0.05) during the follow-up period (23.9 ± 13.3 months vs. 17.8 ± 12.3 months, P=0.240).ConclusionLaparoscopic radical resection of Bismuth types III and IV HC remains challenging, and extremely delicate surgical skills are required when performing extended hemihepatectomy followed by complex bilioenteric reconstructions. However, this procedure is generally safe and feasible for hepatobiliary surgeons with extensive laparoscopy experience.

ABSTRACTAs with many diseases, tumor formation in colorectal cancer (CRC) is multifactorial and involves immune, environmental factors and various genetics that contribute to disease development. Accumulating evidence suggests that the gut microbiome is linked to the occurrence and development of CRC, and these microorganisms are important for immune maturation. However, a systematic perspective integrating microbial profiling, T cell receptor (TCR) and somatic mutations in humans with CRC is lacking. Here, we report distinct features of the expressed TCRβ repertoires in the peripheral blood of and CRC patients (n = 107) and healthy donors (n = 30). CRC patients have elevated numbers of large TCRβ clones and they have very low TCR diversity. The metagenomic sequencing data showed that the relative abundance of Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum), Escherichia coli and Dasheen mosaic virus were elevated consistently in CRC patients (n = 97) compared to HC individuals (n = 30). The abundance of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Roseburia intestinalis was reduced in CRC (n = 97) compared to HC (n = 30). The correlation between somatic mutations of target genes (16 genes, n = 79) and TCR clonality and microbial biomarkers in CRC had been investigated. Importantly, we constructed a random forest classifier (contains 15 features) based on microbiome and TCR repertoires, which can be used as a clinical detection method to screen patients for CRC. We also analysis of F. nucleatum-specific TCR repertoire characteristics. Collectively, our large-cohort multi-omics data aimed to identify novel biomarkers to inform clinical decision-making in the detection and diagnosis of CRC, which is of possible etiological and diagnostic significance.

Abstract In this letter, a novel true random number generator (TRNG) with high energy‐efficient and throughput is proposed for cryptographic systems. The current starve based ring oscillator (CSRO) is biased in the subthrehold region as an entropy source. An individual ring oscillator (RO) is sampled using multiple sampling points of the CSRO working in the sub‐threshold region to obtain a multi‐channel sequence output, thereby fully exploiting the randomness of the entropy source. The proposed TRNG is implemented using a standard 40nm CMOS technology and the simulation results show that it provides high‐quality and 20.66 Mbps random sequences while only consuming 11.46 μW at 1.1 V, 25°C. In addition, the proposed TRNG passes the NIST SP 800‐22 and the NIST SP 800‐90B tests without post‐processing and outperforms the state‐of‐the‐art in terms of energy consumption per bit of the output bitstream, reaching 0.555pJ/bit.

Aluminum nitride (AlN) exhibits excellent high-temperature resistance, chemical stability, and a wide bandgap, making it a prime candidate material for deep ultraviolet detectors. In this study, a modified metal–semiconductor–metal (MSM) photodetector using titanium (Ti) electrodes and millimeter-scale AlN bulk polycrystals grown through physical vapor transport is developed, demonstrating photoresponse to light from visible to vacuum ultraviolet. An additional tungsten (W) electrode is designed on the backside of the device, transforming it into a W-MSM device. A proper bias to the W electrode (VW) is found valid to boost the performance of the photodetector. Representatively, with a V of 20 V and VW of −12 V applied, the device achieves improvements in responsivity (R), detectivity (D*), and external quantum efficiency of 112.84%, 30.5%, and 112.84%, respectively, to 532 nm light and 123.18%, 36.84%, and 123.18%, respectively, to 193 nm light. Furthermore, it is found that with the total voltage being instant, optimizing the distribution of voltage between the Ti electrode and the W electrode would induce a better photoresponse than applying voltage solely to the Ti electrode (VW = 0 V). The reason is elaborated through modeling the voltage distribution in the device, revealing the particular role of the bulk semiconductor in this feature. This research provides a facile and innovative approach to developing low-power photodetectors for bulk materials.

BackgroundUrticaria presents a significant global health challenge due to its sudden onset and potential for severe allergic reactions. Past data on worldwide prevalence and incidence is inconsistent due to differing study methodologies, regional differences, and evolving diagnostic criteria. Past studies have often provided broad ranges instead of specific figures, underscoring the necessity for a cohesive global perspective to inform public health strategies. ObjectiveWe aimed to assess the global burden of urticaria using the 2019 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study data and systematically analyze urticaria prevalence, incidence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) at global, regional, and national levels, thereby informing more effective prevention and treatment strategies. MethodsWe analyzed the global, regional, and national burden of urticaria from 1990 to 2019 using the 2019 GBD study coordinated by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. Estimations of urticaria prevalence, incidence, and DALYs were derived using DisMod-MR 2.1, a Bayesian meta-regression tool. The Socio-demographic Index (SDI) was used to correlate development status with health outcomes. The GBD’s division of the world into 21 regions and 204 countries and territories facilitated a comprehensive assessment. Age-standardized estimated annual percentage changes were generated for urticaria metrics to quantify temporal trends, with age standardization adjusting for potential confounding from age structure. ResultsFrom 1990 to 2019, the global age-standardized prevalence, incidence, and DALY rates of urticaria showed marginal changes. In 2019, 65.14 million individuals were affected, with a prevalence rate of 841.88 per 100,000 population. The DALY rate was 50.39 per 100,000 population. Compared to 1990, the global age-standardized prevalence, incidence, and DALY rates saw increases of 2.92, 4.84, and 0.31 per 100,000 population, respectively. Women persistently had higher rates than men. At a regional level in 2019, low-middle SDI regions exhibited the highest age-standardized metrics, whereas high SDI regions reported the lowest. Central Europe showed the highest rates, contrasting with Western Europe’s lowest rates. Nationally, urticaria prevalence in 2019 varied dramatically, from a low of 27.1 per 100,000 population in Portugal to a high of 92.0 per 100,000 population in Nepal. India reported the most DALYs at 749,495.9, followed by China, Pakistan, and the United States. Agewise data showed higher rates in younger age groups, which diminished with age and then experienced a slight resurgence in the oldest populations. This pattern was pronounced in women and younger populations, with the largest rises seen in those aged less than 40 years and the smallest in those aged more than 70 years. ConclusionsUrticaria remains a significant global health issue, with considerable variation across regions, countries, and territories. The increased burden among women, the rising burden in younger populations, and the regional differences in disease burden call for tailored interventions and policies to tackle this emerging public health issue.

IntroductionUnder-five mortality rate (U5MR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR) are important indicators for evaluating the quality of perinatal health and child health services in a country or region, and are research priorities for promoting maternal and infant safety and maternal and child health. This paper aimed to analysis and predict the trends of U5MR and MMR in China, to explore the impact of social health services and economic factors on U5MR and MMR, and to provide a basis for relevant departments to formulate relevant policies and measures.MethodsThe JoinPoint regression model was established to conduct time trend analysis and describe the trend of neonatal mortality rate (NMR), infant mortality rate (IMR), U5MR and MMR in China from 1991 to 2020. The linear mixed effect model was used to assess the fixed effects of maternal health care services and socioeconomic factors on U5MR and MMR were explored, with year as a random effect to minimize the effect of collinearity. Auto regressive integrated moving average models (ARIMA) were built to predict U5MR and MMR from 2021 to 2025.ResultsThe NMR, IMR, U5MR and MMR from 1991 to 2020 in China among national, urban and rural areas showed continuous downward trends. The NMR, IMR, U5MR and MMR were significantly negatively correlated with gross domestic product (GDP), the proportion of the total health expenditure (THE) to GDP, system management rate, prenatal care rate, post-natal visit rate and hospital delivery rate. The predicted values of national U5MR from 2021 to 2025 were 7.3 ‰, 7.2 ‰, 7.1 ‰, 7.1 ‰ and 7.2 ‰ and the predicted values of national MMR were 13.8/100000, 12.1/100000, 10.6/100000, 9.6/100000 and 8.3/100000.ConclusionChina has made great achievements in reducing the U5MR and MMR. It is necessary for achieving the goals of Healthy China 2030 by promoting the equalization of basic public health services and further optimizing the allocation of government health resources. China’s experience in reducing U5MR and MMR can be used as a reference for developing countries to realize the SDGs.

A ppbv-level mid-infrared photoacoustic spectroscopy sensor was developed for mouth alcohol tests. A compact CO2 laser with a sealed waveguide and integrated radio frequency (RF) power supply was used. The emission wavelength is ∼9.3 µm with a power of 10 W. A detection limit of ∼18 ppbv (1σ) for ethanol gas with an integration of 1 s was achieved. The sensor performed a linear dynamic range with an R square value of ∼0.999. A breath measurement experiment after consuming lychees was conducted. The photoacoustic signal amplitude decreased with the quality of lychee consumed, confirming the existence of residual alcohol in the mouth. Abstract Background Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated leaf disc genetic transformation is an important way to achieve transgenics or gene editing. Ensuring stable and efficient genetic transformation is still an important problem in modern biology. It is assumed that the difference in the development status of genetic transformation cells of receptor materials is the main reason for the difference and instability of genetic transformation efficiency; the stable and efficient genetic transformation rate can be obtained by defining the appropriate treatment period of the receptor material and applying genetic transformation in a timely manner. Results Based on these assumptions, we studied and established an efficient and stable Agrobacterium-mediated plant transformation system with hybrid poplar (Populus alba × Populus glandulosa, 84 K) leaves, stem segments and tobacco leaves as the research objects. There were differences in the development process of leaf bud primordial cells from different explants, and the genetic transformation efficiency was significantly related to the cell development stage of the in vitro cultured materials. Among them, the genetic transformation rate of poplar and tobacco leaves was the highest on the 3rd and 2nd day of culture, reaching 86.6% and 57.3%, respectively. The genetic transformation rate of poplar stem segments was the highest on the 4th day of culture, reaching 77.8%. The best treatment period was from the development of leaf bud primordial cells to the S phase of the cell cycle. The number of cells detected using flow cytometry and 5-ethynyl-2ʹ-deoxyuridine (EdU) staining, the expression of cell cycle-related protein CDKB1; 2, CDKD1; 1, CYCA3; 4, CYCD1; 1, CYCD3; 2, CYCD6; 1, and CYCH; 1 of explants, and morphological changes of explants can be used as indicators to determine the appropriate treatment period for genetic transformation. Conclusions Our study provides a new and universal set of methods and characteristics to identify the S phase of the cell cycle and apply genetic transformation treatments at the appropriate time. Our results are of great significance for improving the efficiency and stability of plant leaf disc genetic transformation.

Abstract Energy conservation and carbon reduction in building energy is an important way to achieve the global goal of ‘carbon neutrality’. Common low‐carbon operation strategies of buildings rely on price incentives to guide users’ behaviour, which is difficult to make users aware of the impact of their energy consumption behaviour on carbon emissions. In this paper, the power system's dynamic carbon emission factors (CEF) were used to release information on energy consumption and carbon emission to building users. At the same time, the differential effects of building envelope and external temperature in the Building Information Modelling were considered. An optimisation method of building low‐carbon energy consumption strategy considering both the building and power carbon emission was established to improve the comprehensive carbon reduction ability of the building and power system. The simulation results show that the proposed method effectively coordinates the building virtual energy storage and demand response. By incorporating the dynamic energy carbon transaction cost into the objective function, the target signal of carbon reduction is transmitted to users so that the volatility of the renewable Energy and other random energy behaviours can be considered in the dynamic CEF.

At the moment of electric locomotive passing the neutral-section, the voltage and current of traction network may have low-frequency oscillation (LFO), which will seriously affect the safe operation of the railway. Aiming at eliminating the transient LFO, a modeling method of vehicle-grid coupling system based on flux-current theory is presented in this paper. In the model of electric locomotive, the transient current control strategy and magnetic saturation of on-board transformer are considered, and the equivalent model of excitation inductance of on-board transformer is established based on the flux-current theory. Using this model, based on the Middlebrook impedance ratio criterion, the stability region of vehicle-grid coupling system is analyzed under the influence of average saturation of on-board transformer and control parameters of electric locomotive. The simulation results are analyzed to evaluate and verify the proposed modeling method of LFO. This work has the benefits of defining the opening and closing phase angle region of system stability as well as providing guidance to adaptively modify the control parameters to suppress the LFO.

Abstract Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex behavioral disorder diagnosed by social interaction difficulties, restricted verbal communication, and repetitive behaviors. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is a safe and efficient strategy to adjust gut microbiota dysbiosis and improve ASD-related behavioral symptoms, but its regulatory mechanism is unknown. The impact of the microbiota and its functions on ASD development is urgently being investigated to develop new therapeutic strategies for ASD. We reconstituted the gut microbiota of a valproic acid (VPA)-induced autism mouse model through FMT and found that ASD is in part driven by specific gut dysbiosis and metabolite changes that are involved in the signaling of serotonergic synapse and glutamatergic synapse pathways, which might be associated with behavioral changes. Further analysis of the microbiota showed a profound decrease in the genera Bacteroides and Odoribacter, both of which likely contributed to the regulation of serotonergic and glutamatergic synapse metabolism in mice. The engraftment of Turicibacter and Alistipes was also positively correlated with the improvement in behavior after FMT. Our results suggested that successful transfer of the gut microbiota from healthy donors to ASD mice was sufficient to improve ASD-related behaviors. Modulation of gut dysbiosis by FMT could be an effective approach to improve ASD-related behaviors in patients.

Summary: Type H vessels couple angiogenesis with osteogenesis, while sympathetic cues regulate vascular and skeletal function. The crosstalk between sympathetic nerves and type H vessels in bone remains unclear. Here, we first identify close spatial connections between sympathetic nerves and type H vessels in bone, particularly in metaphysis. Sympathoexcitation, mimicked by isoproterenol (ISO) injection, reduces type H vessels and bone mass. Conversely, beta-2-adrenergic receptor (ADRB2) deficiency maintains type H vessels and bone mass in the physiological condition. In vitro experiments reveal indirect sympathetic modulation of angiogenesis via paracrine effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), which alter the transcription of multiple angiogenic genes in endothelial cells (ECs). Furthermore, Notch signaling in ECs underlies sympathoexcitation-regulated type H vessel formation, impacting osteogenesis and bone mass. Finally, propranolol (PRO) inhibits beta-adrenergic activity and protects type H vessels and bone mass against estrogen deficiency. These findings unravel the specialized neurovascular coupling in bone homeostasis and regeneration.

Frost resistance in very cold areas is an important engineering issue for the durability of concrete, and the efficient and accurate prediction of the frost resistance of concrete is a crucial basis for determining reasonable design mix proportions. For a quick and accurate prediction of the frost resistance of concrete, a Bayesian optimization (BO)-random forest (RF) approach was used to establish a frost resistance prediction model that consists of three phases. A case study of a key national engineering project results show that (1) the RF can be used to effectively screen the factors that influence concrete frost resistance. (2) R2 of BO-RF for the training set and the test set are 0.967 and 0.959, respectively, which are better than those of the other algorithms. (3) Using the test data from the first section of the project for prediction, good results are obtained for the second section. The proposed BO-RF hybrid algorithm can accurately and quickly predict the frost resistance of concrete, and provide a reference basis for intelligent prediction of concrete durability.

BackgroundReversible splenial lesion syndrome (RESLES) is a rare neurological condition characterized by temporary abnormalities in the splenium of the corpus callosum, which has been reported in mental disorders. Previous studies on bipolar disorder (BD) primarily focused on aspects such as brain structure and function, neurochemical changes, and genetics. However, there have been no studies reporting the occurrence of this syndrome during hypomanic episodes and its disappearance during the remission phase in bipolar disorder type 2 (BD-II).Case presentationWe present a case report of a 30 years-old female patient with BD-II who exhibited symptoms of RESLES during a hypomanic episode. The patient, with a 12 years psychiatric history, has experienced recurrent depressive episodes initially, with the first hypomanic episode occurring 8 years ago. During this period, this patient made several visits to the outpatient clinic to have her medications adjusted due to repeated suicide attempts. This time, she was admitted to our hospital with a second hypomanic episode due to drug withdrawal during pregnancy. The RESLES was observed on her brain magnetic resonance image, and it was alleviated after treatment with lithium carbonate and quetiapine until achieving remission.ConclusionWe present the first report of identifying RESLES in BD-II with hypomanic episodes, which subsequently disappears during the remission phase. Our case report highlights a potential association between BD and RESLES, emphasizing the need for future studies to explore the underlying mechanisms connecting these two conditions in greater depth.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to compare the survival outcome of 3 different treatment groups (arterial interventional chemotherapy or intravenous chemotherapy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy) for locally advanced cervical cancer. Methods A total of 187 patients with pathological stage IB3–IIB cervical cancer (cervical squamous cell carcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, or adenocarcinoma) hospitalized in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2013 to May 2019 were included. Therefore, this article is a retrospective study. We collected data from all eligible patients. And all according to the treatment methods at that time, they were divided into three subgroups: (1) 40 patients who received neoadjuvant arterial interventional chemotherapy + surgery + postoperative chemotherapy (IA-NAC + RS), (2) 63 patients who received neoadjuvant intravenous chemotherapy + surgery + postoperative chemotherapy (IV-NAC + RS), (3) 84 patients who only received concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Notably, 108 of these patients met the 5-year follow-up period, and 187 patients met the 3-year follow-up period only. Consequently, we compared 5-year survival and 3-year survival separately. The prognosis (5-year survival and 3-year survival) of the three groups and the chemotherapy efficacy, intraoperative blood loss, operation time, and postoperative pathological risk factors of different subgroups were compared. Results (1) There were no significant differences in the 3-year overall survival (OS) rate, 3-year progression-free survival (PFS) rate, 5-year OS rate, and 5-year PFS rate among the three subgroups (p > 0.05). (2) The chemotherapy response rates of IA-NAC+RS group (37.5%) and IV-NAC+RS group (25.4%) were comparable (p > 0.05). (3) The intraoperative blood loss in the IA-NAC+RS group (average 92.13±84.09 mL) was significantly lower than that in the IV-NAC+RS group (average 127.2±82.36 mL) (p < 0.05). (4) The operation time of the IA-NAC+RS group (average 231.43±63.10 min) and the IV-NAC+RS group (average 219.82±49.11 min) were comparable (p > 0.05). (5) There were no significant differences between the IA-NAC+RS group and IV-NAC+RS group in pathological lymph node metastasis, parametrial invasion, and involvement of lymphovascular space (p > 0.05). Conclusions Neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with surgery had the same long-term survival benefit as concurrent chemoradiotherapy.

Objectives Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) with zero‐profile interbody has a lower incidence of complications in treating cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). However, postoperative axial neck pain is still commonly occurred, and the factors affecting which is not known. Here, we retrospectively analyze the risk factors for postoperative axial pain after performing ACDF with zero‐profile implant in single‐level CSM. Methods Patients who suffered from single‐level CSM and who received ACDF with zero‐profile implant between 2018 January to 2020 December were reviewed. Of 180 single‐level CSM patients, 144 patients who passed the inclusion criteria were enrolled. Patients were divided into two groups according to the severity of postoperative axial pain as measured by postoperative neck visual analogue scale (nVAS). Clinical parameters including age, sex, smoking history, symptom duration, body mass index (BMI), the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores, as well as radiological parameters were obtained pre‐ and post‐operatively, and the data were compared between two groups. Pearson's chi‐square tests and Mann–Whitney U tests were implemented to identify statistically significant differences between subgroups for categorical and continuous data, respectively; otherwise, the data were tested with Student's t‐test. Risk factors were identified using logistic regression. Results Of the patients (97.8%) achieved satisfied neurological recovery, and 88.2% of the patients achieved fusion at 1‐year follow‐up. 33% of the patients (48 patients out of 144) had sustained postoperative axial pain after the surgery. Abstract Background The agenesis of corpus callosum (ACC) could impair the connectivity of the hemispheres of the cerebral cortex and cause cognitive impairments, social and behavioral issues, and even psychiatric disorders. Although social deficits are common in ACC patients, it is rare for a social anxiety disorder to occur. Case presentation To report a 17-year-old adolescent with complete ACC associated with social anxiety disorder, depression, impulsive behavior, and other neurodevelopmental defects such as intellectual disabilities. His avoidance and fear were improved after treatment with sertraline. Conclusions This is the first report of social anxiety disorder in ACC patients. The possible relationship between brain structural abnormities and anxiety syndrome should be investigated in more studies.

Abstract Background While optimizing spirometry is a challenge for lung function labs, long-term variability if any between IOS (impulse oscillometry) parameters and spirometry is not clearly known in stable COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and chronic asthma. The forced oscillation technique is increasingly employed in routine lung function testing. Our aim in this study was to determine the variability in oscillometric parameters between clinic visits over weeks or months in two patient groups during a period of clinical stability. Moreover, the research assessed relationships between IOS parameters long-term variability and COPD severity. Methods We used data from 73 patients with stable COPD and 119 patients with stable asthma at the Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University. Patients were included if they had three or more clinic visits where spirometry and IOS were performed during a clinically stable period. Data recorded from the first three visits were used. The standard deviation (SDbv), the coefficient of variation (COV), intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and the coefficient of repeatability (COR) were calculated, Wilcoxon Mann–Whitney test was used for data that did not conform to normality of distributions, Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare with multiple groups, post hoc comparison was analyzed by Bonferroni, Spearman correlation coefficients for non-parametric data, the multiple regression analyses to determine the relationship between long-term variability and airflow obstruction. Results (1) The repeatability of IOS resistance parameters with ICC values > 0.8 was high in COPD and asthma. ICC values of IOS resistance parameters were higher than IOS reactance parameters; (2) the repeatability of spirometry parameters with ICC values 0.05) and R5-R20 (P > 0.05). Conclusion IOS resistance parameters have good long-term repeatability in asthma and COPD. Additionally, repeatability of spirometry parameters is lower than IOS resistance parameters in different GOLD stages.

Abstract Background Hypertension, a well-known risk factor, contributes to millions of deaths from cardiovascular and renal diseases worldwide. However, evidence on the association between frequency of dairy product consumption and hypertension is inconsistent. Methods The data for the present study are from the Tongxiang baseline dataset of the China Kadoorie Biobank prospective study. A total of 53,916 participants aged 30–79 years were included in the final analysis. Multivariable logistic regression was utilized to evaluate the association of dairy product consumption with hypertension, and multiple linear regression was conducted to assess the association of dairy product consumption with systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Results Of the 53,916 participants, 2.6% reported consuming dairy products weekly, and 44.4% had prevalent hypertension. After adjusting for socio-demographic status, lifestyle factors, BMI, waist circumference, sleep duration and snoring, when compared with participants who never consumed dairy products, the odds ratios (95% CI) for hypertension among those consuming dairy products less than once per week, and ≥ 1 time per week were 0.85 (0.77–0.95) and 0.74 (0.65–0.84), respectively. Abstract Sympathetic cues via the adrenergic signaling critically regulate bone homeostasis and contribute to neurostress-induced bone loss, but the mechanisms and therapeutics remain incompletely elucidated. Here, we reveal an osteoclastogenesis-centered functionally important osteopenic pathogenesis under sympatho-adrenergic activation with characterized microRNA response and efficient therapeutics. We discovered that osteoclastic miR-21 was tightly regulated by sympatho-adrenergic cues downstream the β2-adrenergic receptor (β2AR) signaling, critically modulated osteoclastogenesis in vivo by inhibiting programmed cell death 4 (Pdcd4), and mediated detrimental effects of both isoproterenol (ISO) and chronic variable stress (CVS) on bone. Intriguingly, without affecting osteoblastic bone formation, bone protection against ISO and CVS was sufficiently achieved by a (D-Asp8)-lipid nanoparticle-mediated targeted inhibition of osteoclastic miR-21 or by clinically relevant drugs to suppress osteoclastogenesis. Collectively, these results unravel a previously underdetermined molecular and functional paradigm that osteoclastogenesis crucially contributes to sympatho-adrenergic regulation of bone and establish multiple targeted therapeutic strategies to counteract osteopenias under stresses.

Abstract Although altered reward sensitivity has been observed in individuals with bipolar disorder (BD), the brain function findings related to reward processing remain unexplored and inconsistent. This meta-analysis aimed to identify brain activation alterations underlying reward anticipation in BD. A systematic literature research was conducted to identify fMRI studies of reward-relevant tasks performed by BD individuals. Using Anisotropic Effect Size Signed Differential Mapping, whole-brain and ROI of the ventral striatum (VS) coordinate-based meta-analyses were performed to explore brain regions showing anomalous activation in individuals with BD compared to healthy controls (HC), respectively. A total of 21 studies were identified in the meta-analysis, 15 of which were included in the whole-brain meta-analysis and 17 in the ROI meta-analysis. The whole-brain meta-analysis revealed hypoactivation in the bilateral angular gyrus and right inferior frontal gyrus during reward anticipation in individuals with BD compared to HC. No significant activation differences were observed in bilateral VS between two groups by whole-brain or ROI-based meta-analysis. Individuals with BD type I and individuals with euthymic BD showed altered activation in prefrontal, angular, fusiform, middle occipital gyrus, and striatum. Hypoactivation in the right angular gyrus was positively correlated with the illness duration of BD. The present study reveals the potential neural mechanism underlying impairment in reward anticipation in BD. Some clinical features such as clinical subtype, mood state, and duration of illness confound the underlying neurobiological abnormality reward anticipation in BD. These findings may have implications for identifying clinically relevant biomarkers to guide intervention strategies for BD.

IntroductionEthnic minorities are considered one of the most vulnerable groups during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the explanatory pathway of how their disadvantaged experiences during epidemics are related to the embedded and longstanding stigmas against them and how these embedded stigmas can affect their resilience in disease outbreaks are not well understood. This study investigated the experiences of ethnic minorities in the COVID-19 pandemic, and how their experiences were related to the embedded stigma toward them.MethodsThis study adopted a qualitative approach, interviewed 25 individuals (13 women and 12 men) from ethnic minority groups residing in Hong Kong from August 2021 to February 2022 in a semi-structured format. Thematic analysis was conducted to analyze the data.ResultsThe participants were isolated and stereotyped as infectious during the COVID-19 pandemic at community and institutional levels. Their experiences did not occur suddenly during the pandemic but were embedded in the longstanding segregation and negative stereotypes toward ethnic minorities in different aspects of life before the pandemic. These negative stereotypes affected their resilience in living and coping with the pandemic.ConclusionThe participants’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic were mostly disadvantageous and predominantly initiated by the mainstream stigmatization toward them by the local Chinese residents and government. Their disadvantaged experiences in the pandemic should be traced to the embedded social systems, imposing structural disparities for ethnic minorities when accessing social and medical resources during a pandemic. Because of the preexisting stigmatization and social seclusion of ethnic minorities in Hong Kong, the participants experienced health inequality, which stemmed from social inequality and the power differential between them and the Chinese locals. The disadvantaged situation of the participants negatively affected their resilience to the pandemic. To enable ethnic minorities better cope with future epidemics, merely providing assistance to them during an epidemic is barely adequate, but a more supportive and inclusive social system should be established for them in the long run.

BackgroundNon-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques offer new therapeutic options for modifying pathological neuroplasticity and have been proven to be beneficial in the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the role of NIBS in treating catatonia.Materials and methodsWe conducted a systematic search to identify meta-analyses or systematic reviews on electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and studies on the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on patients with catatonia from the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China National Knowledge Internet, Wanfang, and China Science and Technology Journal databases from inception until 31 July 2022. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed with the AMSTAR2 or Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tools. Paired t-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to compare changes in catatonia symptom scores after rTMS or tDCS.ResultsA total of 13 systematic reviews and one meta-analysis on ECT, two systematic reviews and 12 case reports on rTMS, and seven studies of 14 cases applying tDCS were identified. Systematic reviews of ECT consistently described improvement in catatonia symptoms across catatonia types and patient age groups. After treatment with rTMS (t = 4.489, p = 0.006) and tDCS (z = −3.065, p = 0.002), patients exhibited significant improvement.ConclusionECT, rTMS, and tDCS were effective in treating catatonia. Early intervention with NIBS techniques may help improve catatonia symptoms in patients with schizophrenia. It may be advantageous to use rTMS or tDCS to maintain this improvement. NIBS techniques may thus represent a promising treatment for catatonia, but additional high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed.

A physical unclonable function (PUF) is a technology designed to safeguard sensitive information and ensure data security. PUFs generate unique responses for each challenge by leveraging random deviations in the physical microstructures of integrated circuits (ICs), making it incredibly difficult to replicate them. However, traditional silicon PUFs are now susceptible to various attacks, such as modeling attacks using conventional machine learning techniques and reverse engineering strategies. As a result, PUFs based on new materials or methods are being developed to enhance their security. However, in the realm of survey papers, it has come to our attention that there is a notable scarcity of comprehensive summaries and introductions concerning these emerging PUFs. To fill this gap, this article surveys PUFs based on novel technologies in the literature. In particular, we first provide an insightful overview of four types of PUFs that are rooted in advanced technologies: bionic optical PUF, biological PUF, PUF based on printed electronics (PE), and PUF based on memristors. Based on the overview, we further discuss the evaluation results of their performance based on specific metrics and conduct a comparative analysis of their performance. Despite significant progress in areas such as limited entry and regional expertise, it is worth noting that these PUFs still have room for improvement. Therefore, we have identified their potential shortcomings and areas that require further development. Moreover, we outline various applications of PUFs and propose our own future prospects for this technology. To sum up, this article contributes to the understanding of PUFs based on novel technologies by providing an in-depth analysis of their characteristics, performance evaluation, and potential improvements. It also sheds light on the wide range of applications for PUFs and presents enticing prospects for future advancements in this field.

This article introduces a new method for balancing the state of charge (SOC) in a dual-bus battery system architecture. The system consists of multiple battery cells or modules connected in series to provide high voltage output. Additionally, low-power flyback converters are connected in series with each battery cell or module at the inputs, and their outputs are connected in parallel to provide lower voltage output. The SOC balancing algorithm ensures that the lower voltage output remains at a desired reference value by adjusting the average duty cycle of each power converter, while also balancing the rate of charge or discharge of each battery cell or module. This SOC balancing process does not affect the normal operation of the high voltage power output. In other words, the dual output (high voltage and low voltage) of the battery system can function independently, and the balancing current only flows through the low voltage power path. Experimental results from a prototype are provided and discussed to validate the proposed dual-bus battery system and controller.

This study proposes Stamp-MLP, an enhanced seal impression representation learning technique based on MLP-Mixer. Instead of using the patch linear mapping preprocessing method, this technique uses circular seal remapping, which reserves the seals’ underlying pixel-level information. In the proposed Stamp-MLP, the average pooling is replaced by a global pooling of attention to extract the information more comprehensively. There were three classification tasks in our proposed method: categorizing the seal surface, identifying the product type, and distinguishing individual seals. The three tasks shared an identical dataset comprising 81 seals, encompassing 16 distinct seal surfaces, with each surface featuring six diverse product types. The experiment results showed that, in comparison to MLP-Mixer, VGG16, and ResNet50, the proposed Stamp-MLP achieved the highest classification accuracy (89.61%) in seal surface classification tasks with fewer training samples. Meanwhile, Stamp-MLP outperformed the others with accuracy rates of 90.68% and 91.96% in the product type and seal impression classification tasks, respectively. Moreover, Stamp-MLP had the fewest model parameters (2.67 M).

As drones are widely employed in various industries and daily life, concerns regarding their safety have been gradually emerging. Denial of service (DoS) attacks have become one of the most significant threats to the stability of resource-constrained sensor nodes. Traditional brute-force and high-rate distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks are easily detectable and mitigated. However, low-rate TCP DoS attacks can considerably impair TCP throughput and evade DoS prevention systems by inconspicuously consuming a small portion of network capacity, and whereas the literature offers effective defense mechanisms against DDoS attacks, there is a gap in defending against Low-Rate TCP DoS attacks. In this paper, we introduce AccFlow, an incrementally deployable Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based protocol designed to counter low-rate TCP DoS attacks. The main idea of AccFlow is to make the attacking flows accountable for the congestion by dropping their packets according to their loss rates. AccFlow drops their packets more aggressively as the loss rates increase. Through extensive simulations, we illustrate that AccFlow can effectively safeguard against low-rate TCP DoS attacks, even when attackers employ varying strategies involving different scales and data rates. Furthermore, whereas AccFlow primarily addresses low-rate TCP DoS attacks, our research reveals its effectiveness in defending against general DoS attacks. These general attacks do not rely on the TCP retransmission timeout mechanism but rather deplete network resources, ultimately resulting in a denial of service for legitimate users. Additionally, we delve into the scalability of AccFlow and its viability for practical deployment in real-world networks. Finally, we demonstrate the effectiveness of AccFlow in safeguarding network resources.

Pore-throat radius is one of the key parameters that characterizes the microscopic pore structure of rock, which has an important impact on oil-gas seepage and the prediction of remaining oil’s microscopic distribution. Currently, the quantitative characterization of a pore-throat radius mainly relies on rock-core experiments, then uses capillary pressure functions, e.g., the J-function, to predict the pore-throat radius of rocks which have not undergone core experiments. However, the prediction accuracy of the J-function struggles to meet the requirements of oil field development during a high water-cut stage. To solve this issue, in this study, based on core experimental data, we established a deep neural network (DNN) model to predict the maximum pore-throat radius Rmax, median pore-throat radius R50, and minimum flow pore-throat radius Rmin of rocks for the first time. To improve the prediction accuracy of the pore-throat radius, the key components of the DNN are preferably selected and the hyperparameters are adjusted, respectively. To illustrate the effectiveness of the DNN model, core samples from Q Oilfield were selected as the case study. The results show that the evaluation metrics of the DNN notably outperform when compared to other mature machine learning methods and conventional J-function method; the root-mean-square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) are decreased by 14–57.8%, 32.4–64.3% and 13.5–48.9%, respectively, and the predicted values are closer to the true values of the pore-throat radius. This method provides a new perspective on predicting the pore-throat radius of rocks, and it is of great significance for predicting the dominant waterflow pathway and in-depth profile control optimization.

Abstract Background and objective End-tidal PCO2 (PetCO2) patterns during exercise testing as well as ventilatory equivalents for CO2 have been reported for different pulmonary vascular diseases but seldomly for the significant differences in exercise response depending on the etiology of pulmonary hypertension. We aimed to compare PetCO2 change pattern in IPAH and CTEPH with varying severity during incremental cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). Methods 164 IPAH patients and 135 CTEPH patients referred to Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital between 2012 and 2019 were retrospectively recruited into the study. All patients performed CPET and also underwent right-heart catheterization (RHC). Forty-four healthy subjects also performed CPET and were included as controls. Results PetCO2 was significantly lower in IPAH and CTEPH patients as compared to normal subjects. Moreover, the PetCO2 did not rise, in fact fell from rest to anaerobic threshold (AT), then further decreased until peak in both IPAH and CTEPH. PetCO2 value at rest, unloaded, AT and peak were proportionately reduced as the World Health Organization functional class (WHO-Fc) increased in both IPAH and CTEPH patients. The PETCO2 in IPAH patients had significant differences during all phases of exercise between WHO-Fc I-II and III-IV subgroup. Abstract Background The effect of carotenoids on the risk of preeclampsia (PE) is uncertain. We aimed to examine the associations between the intake of dietary carotenoids and related compounds by pregnant women in China, and the risk of their developing PE. Methods Four hundred and forty PE cases and 440 age- (± 3 years), gestational age- (± 1 weeks) and gestational diabetes mellitus status- (yes/no) matched healthy controls were recruited from March 2016 to June 2019. Dietary intake of carotenoids was assessed using a 79-item validated food-frequency questionnaire. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using conditional logistic regression. Results After adjusting for potential confounders, we found that the intake of total carotenoids, β-carotene, β-cryptoxanthin, lycopene, and lutein and zeaxanthin (lut-zea) were negatively associated with the odds of developing PE. Abstract Background This study examined the profiles and correlates of psychological trauma, compliance with preventative measures, vaccine acceptance and participation in voluntary testing during the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic among the adult population in Hong Kong (n = 3,011). Methods Data were collected through a telephone survey between December 2020 and February 2021, using measures of psychological trauma, compliance with preventative measures, reading news reports on COVID-19, vaccine acceptance and willingness to participate in voluntary testing. Results The prevalence of possible post-traumatic stress disorder was found to be 12.4%. Respondents were generally compliant with routine preventative measures, and approximately half had accepted vaccination and voluntary testing. Participants who had lower levels of education, were unemployed or had no income showed greater psychological trauma symptoms, whereas female, older and more educated participants showed greater compliance with preventative measures. Participants who spent more time watching news reports of COVID-19 had greater psychological trauma, but also greater compliance. Participants who were male, older, had lower education levels or were married showed greater acceptance of vaccination and participation in voluntary testing. Conclusions Socio-demographic factors affected both psychological trauma and engagement in health-protective measures at one year after the onset of the pandemic. The theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Abstract Background COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for older adults by the World Health Organization. However, by July 15, 2021, only 26% of individuals over 60 years old in Hong Kong had received a first dose of the vaccine. The health belief model and the theory of planned behavior have been used to understand the determinants for COVID-19 vaccination in past literature. However, vaccination determinants can be complex and involve social and cultural factors that cannot be explained by micro-individual factors alone; hence, the health belief model and the theory of planned behavior cannot provide a complete understanding of vaccine hesitancy. Few studies on the barriers to, hesitancy toward, and motivations for COVID-19 vaccination among older Chinese adults have been performed. The aim of this study is to fill this gap by conducting a comprehensive analysis of this subject using the critical medical anthropology framework, extending the health belief model and the theory of planned behavior in understanding vaccination determinants among the older adult population. Methods Between November 2020 and February 2021, 31 adults (24 women and 7 men) over the age of 65 took part in semi-structured, one-on-one interviews. The data we gathered were then analyzed through a phenomenological approach. Results Two major themes in the data were examined: barriers to vaccination and motivations for vaccination. The participants’ perceptions of and hesitancy toward vaccination demonstrated a confluence of factors at the individual (trust, confidence, and social support networks), microsocial (stigma toward health care workers), intermediate-social (government), and macrosocial (cultural stereotypes, civic and collective responsibility, and economic considerations) levels according to the critical medical anthropology framework. Conclusions The decision to receive a COVID-19 vaccination is a complex consideration for older adults of low socioeconomic status in Hong Kong. Using the critical medical anthropology framework, the decision-making experience is a reflection of the interaction of factors at different layers of social levels. The findings of this study extend the health belief model and the theory of planned behavior regarding the understanding of vaccination perceptions and relevant behaviors in an older adult population.

BackgroundMany studies have suggested that the serum concentrations of vitamin A (VA) and vitamin E (VE) influence preeclampsia (PE) risk in pregnant women. However, few studies have assessed whether dietary intake and serum concentrations of VA and VE are correlated with PE risk.MethodsA 1:1 matched case-control study was conducted to explore the association between the dietary intake and serum concentrations of VA and VE and the risk of PE in pregnant Chinese women. A total of 440 pregnant women with PE and 440 control pregnant women were included in the study. Dietary information was obtained using a 78-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire. Serum concentrations of VA and VE were measured by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.ResultsCompared with the lowest quartile, the multivariate-adjusted odds ratios [95% confidence interval (CI)] of the highest quartiles were 0.62 (95% CI: 0.40-0.96, P trend = 0.02) for VA, 0.51 (95% CI: 0.33–0.80, P trend =0.002) for β-carotene, and 0.70 (95% CI: 0.45–1.08, P trend = 0.029) for retinol. Additionally, for serum VA and VE concentrations, the multivariate-adjusted odds ratios (95% CI) were 2.75 (95% CI: 1.24–6.13, P trend = 0.002) and 11.97 (95% CI: 4.01–35.77, P trend < 0.001), respectively. No significant association was seen between VE intake and PE risk.ConclusionsDietary VA intake was negatively correlated with PE risk, and serum VA and VE concentrations were positively correlated with PE risk among pregnant Chinese women.

BackgroundAlzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia characterized by a prominent cognitive deterioration of sufficient magnitude to impair daily living. Increasing studies indicate that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are involved in ferroptosis and AD progression. However, the role of ferroptosis-related ncRNAs in AD remains unexplored.MethodsWe obtained the intersection of differentially expressed genes in GSE5281 (brain tissue expression profile of patients with AD) from the GEO database and ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) from the ferrDb database. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator model along with weighted gene co-expression network analysis screened for FRGs highly associated with AD.ResultsA total of five FRGs were identified and further validated in GSE29378 (area under the curve = 0.877, 95% confidence interval = 0.794–0.960). A competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network of ferroptosis-related hub genes (EPT1, KLHL24, LRRFIP1, CXCL2 and CD44) was subsequently constructed to explore the regulatory mechanism between hub genes, lncRNAs and miRNAs. Finally, CIBERSORT algorithms were used to unravel the immune cell infiltration landscape in AD and normal samples. M1 macrophages and mast cells were more infiltrated whereas memory B cells were less infiltrated in AD samples than in normal samples. Spearman’s correlation analysis revealed that LRRFIP1 was positively correlated with M1 macrophages (r = -0.340, P 0.3, P < 0.001).ConclusionWe constructed a novel ferroptosis-related signature model including mRNAs, miRNAs and lncRNAs, and characterized its association with immune infiltration in AD. The model provides novel ideas for the pathologic mechanism elucidation and targeted therapy development of AD.

BackgroundThis study outlines a comprehensive analysis of the primary characteristics of managing research integrity (RI) in domestic colleges and universities in China. RI education in China consists primarily of soft advocacy, with no hard requirements or continuous and systematic support. Together with other stakeholders, such as funders and publishers, higher education institutions (e.g., colleges and universities) are one of the vital actors that have a lot of influence on RI promotion and implementation among researchers. However, the literature on the regulation of RI policies in China's universities is limited.MethodsWe investigate the top 50 colleges and universities in the 2021 Best Chinese Universities Ranking. Their guidance and policy documents on RI were collected via their official websites. By integrating the use of scientometrics analysis, including descriptive statistical analysis, inductive content analysis, and quantitative analysis, we examine whether and how these higher education institutions respond to national policies in a timely manner, especially in terms of their frequency of updates, topic clustering analysis, terms clustering analysis, content aggregation. To further understand the composition mechanism and the main working systems of university RI management organizations, we conducted in-depth research on the organizational functions, meeting system, staff composition mechanism, and scientific research misconduct acceptance and investigation mechanisms.ResultsThe regulations on the treatment of RI in China's universities have, in response to the government's call to establish their own management policies and working mechanisms, maintained a zero-tolerance stance on research misconduct. The sampled universities listed the definition and principles of misconduct practices, investigation procedures, and sanctions of research misconduct in their own policy documents. Some of them listed inappropriate research practices All 50 sampled universities have formed relevant organizations responsible for RI management, they all provide the detailed regulations of the committees. Yet, there is still a need to further define Questionable Research Practice, foster higher standards for integrity in research and, establish and improve an efficient, authoritative, well-restrained and supervision working mechanism for organizations responsible for RI treatment.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a serious cerebrovascular disease with high rates of morbidity, mortality, and disability. Optimal treatment of ICH is a major clinical challenge, as the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Ferroptosis, a newly identified form of non-apoptotic programmed cell death, is characterized by the iron-induced accumulation of lipid reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to intracellular oxidative stress. Lipid ROS causes damage to nucleic acids, proteins, and cell membranes, eventually resulting in ferroptosis. In the past 10 years, ferroptosis has resulted in plenty of discoveries and breakthroughs in cancer, neurodegeneration, and other diseases. Some studies have also reported that ferroptosis does occur after ICH in vitro and in vivo and contribute to neuronal death. However, the studies on ferroptosis following ICH are still in the preliminary stage. In this review, we will summarize the current evidence on the mechanism underlying ferroptosis after ICH. And review the traditional modes of neuronal death to identify the crosstalk with ferroptosis in ICH, including apoptosis, necroptosis, and autophagy. Additionally, we also aim to explore the promising therapeutic application of ferroptosis in cell death-based ICH.

Inner Mongolia is one of the most sensitive regions to global change with vegetation significantly affected by global warming and human activities. Therefore, exploring the dynamic change of vegetation and its impact mechanism is of great significance for guiding the protection ecosystem and policy formulation. Based on the 1982–2015 growing season and the interannual normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), simultaneous temperature and precipitation data sets, we extracted the characteristic components of the NDVI and climatic factors by the Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) methods. And the periodic characteristics of the NDVI in Inner Mongolia and its relationship with climate over a period of 34 years were analyzed. The results show that: 1) The VMD algorithm overcomes the “mode aliasing” problem of Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and can more accurately extract the periodic information of long time series vegetation NDVI dataset containing complex frequencies.; 2) the NDVI in the growing season of Inner Mongolia has main change cycles of one growing season (7 months) and half a growing season, and temperature and NDVI have the same double-cycle relationship, whereas precipitation has a periodic change of one growing season; 3) the NDVI cycle change of Inner Mongolia vegetation from 1982 to 2015 shows multiple time scales, showing 16.95a, 6.8a, 4.85a, 4.25a, 3.4a and 2.83a change cycles; 4) vegetation NDVI in Inner Mongolia from 1982 to 2015 has a good correlation with climate factors, and the partial correlation coefficients are different in Inner Mongolia and three sampling areas. NDVI and precipitation have relatively good periodic consistency, and there is a significant positive correlation between vegetation NDVI and temperature and precipitation before and after removing the interference of periodic variables. In general, temperature and precipitation jointly affect the NDVI cyclical changes of Inner Mongolia. The VMD algorithm has significant effects on determining the cyclic dynamic changes of NDVI and climatic factors.

Aiming at the problem that unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) is difficult to quickly and accurately perceive situation information and make maneuvering decision autonomously in modern air combat, which is easily affected by complex factors, a maneuvering decision algorithm of UCAV combined with deep reinforcement learning and game theory is proposed in this paper. Firstly, through the UCAV dynamics model and maneuver library, a reasonable air combat situation assessment model and advantage reward function are established, and the sample data of situation assessment indicators are constructed using the structure entropy weight method. Secondly, the convolutional neural network (CNN) is used to process the high-dimensional continuous situation features of UCAV in air combat, eliminate the correlation and redundancy between situation features, and train the neural network to approximate the action-value function. Then, the double deep Q network (DDQN) algorithm in reinforcement learning (RL) is introduced to train the agent by the interaction with the environment and combined with Minimax algorithm in stochastic game theory to solve the optimal value function in each specific state, and the optimal maneuver decision of UCAV is obtained. Air combat simulation results show that UCAV can choose maneuvers autonomously under different situations and occupy a dominant position quickly by this method, which greatly improves the combat effectiveness of UCAV.

Uncertainty is the main feature of the business environment in the post-coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) era. People taking leadership positions in an uncertain environment constantly encounter unprecedented risks and challenges. Many of them have difficulties adapting to such an environment and thus experience severe anxiety, showing the symptoms of social anxiety disorder (SAD), failing to exert effective leadership in social interaction contexts. How can leaders overcome SAD and effectively motivate their subordinates in an uncertain environment? This study explores the important role of psychological resilience. Using sample data collected from 82 leaders and 363 subordinates of eight enterprises in China from May to June 2020, the current study reveals that a high degree of psychological resilience enables leaders to maintain intrinsic motivated at work in an uncertain environment. Leaders with a high degree of psychological resilience perform better in identifying the organizations’ vision and displaying visionary leadership than those with a low degree. The current study enriches the knowledge of leaders’ psychological well-being and effective leadership in the post-COVID-19 era.

Psychological stress emerges to be a common health burden in the current society for its highly related risk of mental and physical disease outcomes. However, how the quickly-adaptive stress response process connects to the long-observed organismal alterations still remains unclear. Here, we investigated the profile of circulatory extracellular vesicles (EVs) after acute stress (AS) of restraint mice by phenotypic and proteomic analyses. We surprisingly discovered that AS-EVs demonstrated significant changes in size distribution and plasma concentration compared to control group (CN) EVs. AS-EVs were further characterized by various differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) closely associated with biological, metabolic and immune regulations and were functionally important in potentially underlying multiple diseases. Notably, we first identified the lipid raft protein Stomatin as an essential biomarker expressed on the surface of AS-EVs. These findings collectively reveal that EVs are a significant function-related liquid biopsy indicator that mediate circulation alterations impinged by psychological stress, while also supporting the idea that psychological stress-associated EV-stomatin can be used as a biomarker for potentially predicting acute stress responses and monitoring psychological status. Our study will pave an avenue for implementing routine plasma EV-based theranostics in the clinic.

To solve the problem of a high sampling rate in the dual-frequency power amplifier predistortion system, a dual frequency predistortion adaptive sparse signal reconstruction algorithm is proposed. Firstly, a memory effect compensator based on piecewise polynomial model is adopted. The signal fusion is interpreted as the problem of Compressed Sensing sampling reconstruction. In the predistortion feedback loop, the missing fifth-order and high-order cross-modulation signals are reconstructed accurately by using the adaptive sparse algorithm. The minimum mean square solution of coefficient weight approximates the optimal value, and the acquisition error is reduced to improve the linearization effect. The experimental results show that it is of great significance to reduce the sampling rate of dual band predistortion and improve the linearity of power amplifier.
