PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to identify the influence of product information on purchase intention and evaluate the moderated mediation effect of return policy leniency in cross-border e-commerce.Design/methodology/approachThe methodology is to use multiple regression analysis on 406 qualified online survey responses to determine the influence of product description, product display, and product content on consumer purchasing intention through product involvement as well as the moderated mediation effect of return policy leniency.FindingsThe results show that product description and product content were positively associated with product involvement, while product display did not exhibit a significant relationship between it and product involvement. As hypothesized, product involvement mediated the relationship of product description and product content with consumer purchasing intention. The return policy leniency was also found to positively moderate the mediation path of product content on purchasing intention through product involvement.Originality/valueThis study bridges a gap in the literature on the influence of three kinds of product information on purchasing intention through product involvement in a cross-border e-commerce context. Especially the study is one of the first attempts to determine that good return policy do not apply universally due to implied boundary conditions. The results can be used to expand consumption in cross-border e-commerce.

A wide spectrum of state-of-the-art characterization techniques have been devised to monitor the electrode–electrolyte interface that dictates the performance of electrochemical devices. However, coupling multiple characterization techniques to realize in situ multidimensional analysis of electrochemical interfaces remains a challenge. Herein, we presented a hyphenated differential electrochemical mass spectrometry and attenuated total reflection surface enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy analytical method via a specially designed electrochemical cell that enables a simultaneous detection of deposited and volatile interface species under electrochemical reaction conditions, especially suitable for non-aqueous, electrolyte-based energy devices. As a proof of concept, we demonstrated the capability of the homemade setup and obtained the valuable reaction mechanisms, by taking the tantalizing reactions in non-aqueous lithium-ion batteries (i.e., oxidation and reduction processes of carbonate-based electrolytes on Li1+xNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 and graphite surfaces) and lithium-oxygen batteries (i.e., reversibility of the oxygen reaction) as model reactions. Overall, we believe that the coupled and complementary techniques reported here will provide important insights into the interfacial electrochemistry of energy storage materials (i.e., in situ, multi-dimensional information in one single experiment) and generate much interest in the electrochemistry community and beyond.

Positive adjustment to chronic diseases reduces psychiatric comorbidity and enhances quality of life. Very little is known about the benefit of internet-based and mobile-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (IM-CBT) on physical outcomes and its reciprocal interactions with psychiatric outcomes, the active therapeutic elements, and effect moderators among people with major chronic medical conditions. In this systematic review and meta-analysis (PROSPERO: CRD42022265738), CINAHL of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, PubMed, Web of Science are systematically searched up to 1 June 2022, for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing IM-CBT against non-CBT control condition(s) among people with chronic disease(s). Primary outcomes include improvements in psychiatric symptoms (depressive, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, general psychological distress) from baseline to post-intervention and follow-ups. Secondary outcomes include improvements in physical distress (physical symptoms, functional impairment, self-rated ill health, objective physiological dysfunction). Among 44 RCTs (5077 patients with seven different chronic diseases), IM-CBT improves depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and general psychological distress at post-intervention and across follow-ups, and improves physical distress and functional impairment at post-intervention. Preliminary evidence suggests that behavioral modification and problem-solving could be necessary components to reduce psychiatric symptoms in IM-CBT, whereas cognitive restructuring, psychoeducation, and mindfulness elements relate to reduced physical distress. IM-CBT shows stronger benefits in chronic pain, cancer, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease, relative to other conditions. Changes in psychiatric symptoms and physical distress prospectively predict each other over time. IM-CBT is an effective intervention for comprehensive symptom management among people with chronic diseases.

To date, there has been little study of comparison between picosecond 532 nm laser and 755 nm Q-switched Alexandrite lasers in the treatment of freckles. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of picosecond 532 nm laser (PS 532) and 755 nm Q-switched Alexandrite laser (QSAL) for treatment of freckles in a split-face manner. Eighteen patients with freckles were enrolled in the study. The right and left sides of their faces were randomly assigned to either a QSAL-treated group or PS 532-treated group. The degree of pain, satisfaction with the results, and adverse events associated with the laser treatment were evaluated using a questionnaire. All of the patients were followed up at 4 and 12 weeks after one treatment session. Among the 18 patients, PS 532 was found to be associated with less pain (3.56 ± 2.431) than QSAL (3.94 ± 1.893), but the difference was not statistically significant. The curative effect and satisfaction associated with 755 nm Q-switched Alexandrite laser was greater than that of picosecond 532 nm laser (P .001). Both picosecond 532 nm laser and QSAL are effective in the treatment of freckles, and QSAL has a greater rate of satisfaction and curative effect.

The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese-language version of the Decent Work Scale (Duffy et al., 2017). An exploratory factor analysis was conducted with a randomly selected proportion of the sample ( n = 291) and resulted in five factors: safe conditions, access to healthcare, adequate compensation, time and rest and values match between organizations and communities. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed with the remaining sample ( n = 390). We examined factor structure, convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity. We also tested invariance across gender and work sector groups. Results demonstrated that the bifactor structure of the English version scale was a good fit to the data. Evidence supported convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity of the scale. The bi-factorial structure did not differ across gender and work sectors. Results suggest the scale is an appropriate measure of decent work among Chinese workers.

The soil-borne necrotrophic fungus Rhizoctonia solani is one of destructive fungi causing severe yield losses in various important crops. However, the host defense mechanisms against the invasion of this pathogen are poorly understood. In this study, we employed an iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomic approach to investigate host proteins responsive to R. solani using the resistant rice cultivar YSBR1. As a whole, we identified 319 differentially accumulated proteins (DAPs) after inoculation of rice plants with R. solani. Functional categorization analysis indicates that these DAPs cover a broad range of functions. Notably, a substantial portion of the DAPs are involved in cell redox homeostasis, carbohydrate metabolism, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, or belong to pathogenesis-related proteins, indicating that these processes/proteins play important roles in host defense against R. solani. Interestingly, all of the DAPs involved in photosynthesis and chlorophyll biosynthetic processes, and part of the DAPs involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, show reduced accumulation after R. solani infection, suggesting that R. solani probably inhibits host photosynthetic system and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis to facilitate infection and colonization. In conclusion, our results provide both valuable resources and new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying rice and R. solani interaction.

Damyon, the type locality of Gentiana damyonensis, is determined to be a sizeable massif situated in Zogang county in southeastern Xizang (Tibet), China, not in southwestern Sichuan or more specifically Dêrong or Muli counties. Consulting of literature and survey of herbarium specimens indicate that G. damyonensis does not occur in southwestern Sichuan as previously recorded, and is currently known only from northwestern Yunnan and southeastern Xizang, China, and northern Kachin, Myanmar. A distribution map is thus provided for this species.

The electro-reforming of glycerol is an emerging technology of simultaneous hydrogen production and biomass valorization. However, its complex reaction network and limited catalyst tunability restrict the precise steering toward high selectivity. Herein, we incorporated the chelating phenanthrolines into the bulk nickel hydroxide and tuned the electronic properties by installing functional groups, yielding tunable selectivity toward formate (max 92.7%) and oxalate (max 45.3%) with almost linear correlation with the Hammett parameters. Further combinatory study of intermediate analysis and various spectroscopic techniques revealed the electronic effect of tailoring the valence band that balances between C-C cleavage and oxidation through the key glycolaldehyde intermediate. A two-electrode electro-reforming setup using the 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline-nickel hydroxide catalyst was further established to convert crude glycerol into pure H2 and isolable sodium oxalate with high efficiency.

It is demonstrated that the subjective well-being (SWB) of older people greatly relies on their social participation. However, there are few studies on reciprocity beliefs as a mediating mechanism between social participation and SWB. In this study, 297 participants aged 60 and over in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, completed a questionnaire of social participation, reciprocity beliefs, and SWB. We used multiple linear regression and mediation analyses to verify the mediating effect of reciprocity beliefs. Results showed that social participation was positively relative to SWB and reciprocity beliefs, and reciprocity beliefs played an intermediary role in social participation and SWB. These findings suggest the importance of social participation for SWB, with reciprocity beliefs (behaviors) playing a positive mediating role, particularly in China. In conclusion, analysis of the mediating effect of reciprocity beliefs provides us with knowledge that could help in achieving a healthy old age. Additionally, this study opens up new perspectives of research.

Collagen is the predominant structural protein within connective tissues. Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is characterized by weakening of the pelvic floor connective tissues and loss of support for pelvic organs. In this study, we examined the multiscale structure, molecular composition and biomechanics of native collagen fibrils in connective tissues of the posterior vaginal fornix collected from healthy women and POP patients, and established the correlation of these properties with clinical POP quantification (POP-Q) scores. The collagen characteristics, including collagen amount, ratio of Collagen I and Collagen III, collagen fibril d-period, alignment and stiffness, were found to change progressively with the increase of the clinical measurement of Point C, a measure of uterine descent and apical prolapse. The results imply that a severe prolapse is associated with stiffer collagen fibrils, reduced collagen d-period, increased fibril alignment and imbalanced collagen synthesis, degradation and deposition. Additionally, prolapse progression appears to be synchronized with deterioration of the collagen matrix, suggesting that a POP-Q score obtained via a non-invasive clinical test can be potentially used to quantitatively assess collagen abnormality of a patient's local tissue. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Abnormal collagen metabolism and deposition are known to associate with connective tissue disorders, such as pelvic organ prolapse. Quantitative correlation of the biochemical and biophysical characteristics of collagen in a prolapse patient's tissue with the clinical diagnostic measurements is unexplored and unestablished. This study fills the knowledge gap between clinical prolapse quantification and the individual's cellular and molecular disorders leading to connective tissue failure, thus, provides the basis for clinicians to employ personalized treatment that can best manage the patient's condition and to alert pre-symptomatic patients for early management to avoid unwanted surgery.

Increased blood pressure variability (BPV) over 24 h or longer was associated with poor clinical outcomes in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). However, the characteristics of beat-to-beat BPV, a rapid assessment of BPV and its association with outcome in ICH patients remain unknown.We consecutively and prospectively recruited patients with ICH between June 2014 and December 2020. Five-minute noninvasive beat-to-beat recordings were measured serially at three time points, 1-2, 4-6 and 10-12 days after ICH onset. BPV was calculated using standard deviation (SD) and variation independent of mean (VIM). Favourable outcome was defined as modified Rankin Scale score of less than 2 at 90 days.The analysis included 66 participants (54.12 ± 10.79 years; 71.2% men) and 66 age and sex-matched healthy controls. Compared with that in healthy adults, beat-to-beat BPV was significantly increased 1-2 days after ICH and was completely recovered 10-12 days later. BPV recorded 1-2 days after ICH onset was higher among patients with unfavourable outcomes than among those with favourable outcomes (all P 0.05) and higher BPV on days 1-2 was independently associated with a 3-month unfavourable outcome after adjustment for major covariates.Beat-to-beat BPV was significantly increased among patients with ICH and could be completely recovered 10-12 days later. In addition, beat-to-beat BPV 1-2 days after ICH was independently associated with prognosis and could be regarded as a potential prognostic predictor and effective therapeutic target in the future.

BackgroundSpinal stretch reflex (SSR) hyperexcitability reflected by the H-reflex has been reported in more strongly affected extremities after stroke. The H-reflex in the lower extremities is modulated by body position normally and alternatively modulated post-stroke.ObjectiveThis study aimed to preliminarily explore how upper extremity (UE) H-reflexes are modulated by body position after stroke, which remains unknown.Materials and methodsThree patients after stroke with hemiparesis/hemiplegia were included. Bilateral flexor carpi radialis (FCR) H-reflexes were examined in the supine position while standing. Other clinical evaluations include the modified Ashworth scale (MAS) and postural stability measurement.ResultsThe three cases herein showed that (1) SSR excitability was higher in more strongly affected UEs than less-affected UEs, (2) down-modulation of SSR excitability occurred in less-affected UEs in static standing compared with the supine position, but modulation of SSR excitability in more-affected UEs varied, and (3) bilateral UE SSR excitability in case 3 was down-modulated the most. Moreover, case 3 showed no difference in muscle tone of the more affected UE between supine and standing positions, and case 3 showed the best postural stability.ConclusionSpinal stretch reflex hyperexcitability in strongly affected UEs could commonly occur in different phases of recovery after stroke. Down-modulation of SSR excitability could occur in less-affected UEs in the standing position compared with the supine position, while modulation of SSR excitability might be altered in strongly affected UEs and vary in different phases of recovery. There could be some correlation between postural control and UE SSR hyperexcitability. The H-reflex may help to offer a new perspective on rehabilitation evaluation and interventions to promote UE motor control after stroke.

Cross-border services and support are becoming an increasingly important part of Hong Kong's social policy because an increasing number of its older citizens are choosing to live in mainland China. Unfortunately, with the recent outbreak of COVID-19, medical services for cross-border older adults have been blocked due to strict immigration controls. This article examines the effects of COVID-19 on these older adults, with a specific focus on the interruption of medical services and the remedial measures taken by the government and non-governmental organizations. It also discusses the prospect of delivering care for cross-border older people using telemedicine, which is considered one of the most important methods for overcoming space-distance and reducing the risk of cross-contamination caused by close contact.

PurposeWith a focus on Chinese higher education students, the purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between students' perceived employability and their levels of academic engagement and stress.Design/methodology/approachThe study engaged 1,155 students from three universities in China. Students responded to an online survey, reporting their confidence in relation to their perceived employability, academic engagement and stress in life. The authors employed structural equation modelling to explore students' confidence in each employability attribute and to assess perceived employability relation to academic engagement and perceived stress.FindingsThe results suggest that self-perceptions of employability are positively associated with students' academic engagement and negatively associated with perceived stress. Perceived employability mediated the majority paths.Originality/valueThis is one of the few studies to examine perceived employability in line with academic engagement or stress and the first study to do so in China.

In order to improve yield of aromatics from catalytic pyrolysis of lignin, alkali lignin was used for rapid pyrolysis experiments under a binary catalysis system of alkali lignin char and ZSM-5. Influence of catalyst ratio and pyrolysis temperature as well as pyrolysis time on aromatics quantity and mechanism of synergistic catalysis of alkali lignin char and ZSM-5 were investigated. The results show that quantity of aromatics has increased from 17 mg/g (without char) to 33 mg/g (with char addition of 1g), which is about doubled. The optimal conditions for preparation of aromatics are under alkali lignin: alkali lignin char: ZSM-5=1:1:1 at 500°C for 10 min. Meanwhile, the mechanism analysis shows that alkali lignin char mainly plays a role in bond breaking during pyrolysis, while ZSM-5 can act as selective aromatization to obtain higher aromatics yield, whose synergistic effects result in higher aromatic yield.

Control of water content of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) within a reasonable rangeis a question worthy of study. This paper addresses questions of water transport, water fault, and water management methods in a PEMFC. Both an excess (overflow) or lack (dehydration) of water in a fuel cell may affect the performance and the service life. Herein, we describe in detail the effects of water content on the cathode, anode, gas diffusion layer (GDL), catalyst layer (CL) and flow channel. Monitoring the flow and accumulation of water directly in the PEMFC is the most effective approach to determine which of the two scenarios, overflow or dehydration, occurs. The water transport can be effectively investigated in a transparent fuel cell, using neutron scanning, nuclear magnetic resonance, and X-ray irradiation. Regarding the PEMFC water management, this paper reviews some current methods, such as improvement of the flow field structure, changing hydrophilic materials, and optimizing control systems.

Over the past decade, the increasingly globalized society has continually redefined the qualities and skills of an ideal engineering graduate for industry and academic careers, and, more recently, in light of a global pandemic in 2020, the pedagogical environment has shifted toward a virtual classroom setting. Because the engineering and social challenges of the modern world are rapidly evolving, it is important to adapt teaching methods that reflect these changing times. An increasingly attractive teaching method in the engineering classroom is project-based learning (PBL), which is known to improve engaged-learning outcomes, such as creativity, risk taking, social responsibility, teamwork, self-confidence, and communication. However, it is still unclear how various PBL practices differentially impact these engaged-learning outcomes. Toward the goal of elucidating this, the impact of two different project formats, a virtual presentation versus an in-person presentation, was evaluated for a junior-level chemical engineering core course, Mass and Heat Transfer, over 2 years (248 students total). In surveys conducted after the projects were completed, students were asked to what degree the project improved each of the learning outcomes on a scale of 0 (no impact) to 10 (great impact). Data from these postproject surveys showed no statistically significant differences in impact on teamwork, self-confidence, and communication skills between the two groups. However, the virtual presentation had statistically significant greater positive impacts on student creativity [mean score: 8.9/10 (virtual) vs 7.7/10 (in-person); p < 0.001] and risk taking [mean score: 7.7/10 (virtual) vs 6.1/10 (in-person); p < 0.001], whereas the in-person presentation had a significantly more positive impact on social responsibility [mean score: 6.5/10 (in-person) vs 5.5/10 (virtual); p < 0.05]. Qualitative insights into these results were gathered from discussions with students in focus groups. The results of this study underscore the unique advantages associated with different presentation formats. From the perspective of the current transitions to online learning, the results suggest that changing project deliverables from an in-person to a virtual format may actually yield net gains in engaged-learning outcomes.

Background and purpose Spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2) is the second most common type of spinocerebellar ataxia in China. However, data on the clinical and genetic features of Chinese SCA2 patients are scarce. This study aims to provide a comprehensive description of in the Chinese SCA2 cohort. Methods A total of 135 patients with SCA2 from 92 families and 104 unrelated normal controls were recruited from three medical centers between 2008 and 2020. Sanger sequencing and TA cloning were used to determine the CAG repeat length and intrinsic structure. The clinical data of patients with SCA2, including electromyography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron-emission tomography, and clinical scale scores, were recorded. Results The mean ± SD age at onset of SCA2 patients was 32.6 ± 11.9 years and the corresponding CAG repeat length was 42.1 ± 3.6. CAG repeat length accounted for 64% of the age-at-onset variance. We observed that patients had a significantly lower proportion of (CAG)8 CAA(CAG)4 CAA(CAG)8 within normal alleles than normal controls (48.8% vs. 64.9%; p = 0.003), while the distribution of the proportion of (CAG)13 CAA (CAG)8 was the opposite. Peripheral neuropathy was frequent, occurring in 75.9% of the patients. Parkinsonism was relatively common, with a frequency of 11.8%. Two patients with parkinsonism had a significantly more severe reduction in dopamine transporter levels in the bilateral striatum than the one patient with pure ataxia. An infant-onset case of SCA2 with more than 180 CAG repeats was characterized by global development delay, hypotonia and hearing impairment. Conclusions This study describes the genetic profile and clinical characteristics of the largest SCA2 cohort to date in the Chinese population and analyzes inter-population differences. Many aspects of this study population were different from other populations with SCA2.

In recent years, there have been many exciting developments in the biomedical applications of macrophage membrane bionic drug delivery system (MM-Bio-DDS). Macrophages, as an important immune cell, are involved in initiating and regulating the specific immune response of the body. Therefore, the inflammatory process related to macrophages is an important goal of diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. In this review, we first summarize the different methods of preparation, characterization, release profiles and natural advantages of using macrophages as a drug delivery system (DDS). Second, we introduce the processes of various chronic inflammatory diseases and the role of macrophages in them, specifically clarify how the MM-Bio-DDS provides a wide and effective treatment for targeted inflammatory site. Finally, based on the existing research, we propose the application prospect and existing challenges of the MM-Bio-DDS, especially the problems in clinical transformation, to provide new ideas for the development and utilization of the MM-Bio-DDS in targeted drug delivery for inflammation and the treatment of diseases.
