Introduction: Cancer is a global health problem. Taste change is one of the most common symptoms in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Cancer patients often use Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) to manage chemotherapy complications. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate CIM used by cancer patients to cope with chemotherapy-related taste alterations. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 318 cancer patients receiving chemotherapy in an oncology hospital in Malatya City, Turkey. The samples were recruited by convenience sampling method. The study data were collected with a data form developed by the research team. Written permissions were obtained from all participants and the Ethics Committee. Frequencies, mean scores, and standard deviation were used to present descriptive findings. The independent t-test, Chi-square test, and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the obtained data. Results: The Mean±SD age of the patients was 65.18±8.36 years, and the mean duration of their diseases was 35.34±16.27 months. About 54.1% of the patients were female, and 42.8% had some information about CIM. Their primary source of information was other patients (49.6%), and 34.9% used CIM to cope with chemotherapy-related taste alterations. The most common method used was phytotherapy (50.5%), and the most commonly used herb was miracle fruit (21.4%). It was also determined that the frequency of CIM use was affected by age, illness duration, gender, living in a city, family history of cancer, having breast cancer, having information on CIM, having metastasis, and lacking complications (R2= 0.426, P=0.025). Conclusion: Cancer patients frequently use CIM to cope with chemotherapy-related taste alterations, and phytotherapy was the most commonly-used CIM. © 2022. Purpose: To analyze the prognostic factors of recurrence and overall survival in rare histotypes of vulvar cancer. Methods: An international multicenter retrospective study including patients diagnosed with vulvar cancer was performed. One hundred centers participated in the study and 2453 vulvar cancer cases were enrolled from January 2001 until December 2005. After exclusion of squamous vulvar cancer, Paget´s disease and vulvar melanoma 112 tumors were analyzed for the present study. Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 64.9 ± 17.2 years. 99 (88.4%) patients had a single lesion, in 25 (22.3%) cases the vulvar tumor involved the midline, and only 13 (11.5%) patients had clinically positive inguinal lymph nodes. The mean size of the lesion was 33.8 ± 33.9 mm. Regarding the surgical treatment, 2 (1.8%) patients underwent skinning vulvectomy, 63 (56.3%) local excision, 41 (36.6%) vulvectomy, 3 (2.7%) exenteration and 3 (2.7%) did not receive any surgical treatment. The mean free surgical margin was 8.2 ± 9 mm and 7 (6.2%) patients presented positive inguinal nodes. Radiotherapy was administered in 22 (19.6%) patients and it was performed postoperatively in all cases; 14 (12.5%) patients received adjuvant chemotherapy. The mean overall follow-up time was 44.1 ± 35.7 months. The risk factors associated with overall survival were chemotherapy and radiotherapy, tumor size and stromal invasion (p < 0.05). The only independent factor significantly associated with global recurrence and absence of metastasis was radiotherapy (p = 0.02 and p = 0.002, respectively). Conclusion: Postoperative radiotherapy seems to be the only independent factor associated with recurrence and overall survival in uncommon types of vulvar cancer. © 2020, Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

© 2018, ALÖKI Kft., Budapest, Hungary.This study was carried out on the fatty acid, mineral and proximate compositions of ten sweet almond genotypes and two commercial varieties named as Ferragnes and Ferraduel grown in the same ecological conditions known as the Firat riverside region during two consecutive years. In this context, the crude oil (Co), crude protein (Cp), total sugar (Ts), total ash (Ta) and moisture (Mo) contents from the almond genotypes and cultivars ranged from 48.69 to 55.8%, 20.41 to 25.82%, 2.92 to 5.27%, 3.29 to 4.66% and 2.52 to 3.75%, respectively. The genotypes and cultivars showed a varied mineral content as well. Potassium (K) was the main mineral in all genotypes and cultivars, ranging from 679.53 to 986.63 mg100 g-1; phosphorus (P) was the second most abundant mineral, ranging from 584.57 to 697.31 mg100 g-1; followed by magnesium (Mg) and calcium (Ca), ranging from 325.27 to 381.93 mg100 g-1, 250.15 to 332.19 mg100 g-1, respectively. Of the identified fatty acids, oleic acid (Oa) (69.76–72.02%) was the predominant fatty acid, followed by linoleic acid (La) (18.82–21.62%), palmitic acid (Pa) (5.62– 7.76%), and stearic acid (Sa) (1.20-1.69%). Other fatty acids were present at trace amounts. The unsaturated (Ufa)/saturated fatty acid (Sfa) ratios ranged from 9.29 to 12.12. From the results of the present study, we can conclude that the kernels of almond genotypes and cultivars are being potential sources of valuable oil which might be used for edible and other industrial purposes.

The study aims to analyze the reason and results of the radical or extreme-right movement and parties in Europe in the framework of the thought that populism is the inner crisis of liberal democracy. This paper analyzes the extreme political party cases, which raise their voting rate in the European Parliament elections and national or local parliament elections and the radicalization of mainstream parties, which are under the effect of those parties, especially in Poland and Hungary. These countries have got back to domination of domestic politics in the process that declining of Europeanization and the failure of moving European Union to another stage in the constitution debate. Populist radical right has raised its power on this process. While these parties offer a new politics, new democracy have to go beyond free market-based version and not go back to basic universal human rights.

PubMed: 31741339, 2-s2.0-85075208029, Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form for patients with chronic nonmalignant pain. Methods: An analytical design was used. A total of 192 patients were included in the study. A demographic questionnaire and the Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form were used to collect data. Content validity was assessed by experts and construct validity was tested using exploratory factor analysis. Reliability analyses estimated the internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Cronbach’s alpha and the item-total correlations were calculated for the subscales to examine internal consistency. Results: Exploratory factor analysis yielded 2 factors: pain severity and pain interference, which accounted for 68.81% of the total variance. The coefficient alpha of both subscales demonstrated good internal consistency. The item-total correlations of the scale ranged between 0.56 and 0.87. The test-retest reliability was r=0.774 for pain severity and r=0.808 for pain interference (p=0.001). Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form is a valid and reliable instrument to assess chronic nonmalignant pain. © 2019 Turkish Society of Algology.
