In most lizards foraging behaviour is either ‘widely foraging’ or ‘sit and wait’ but in geckos it varies and fluctuates, providing an opportunity to examine potential factors modulating the foraging mode. In an endeavour to identify these, marked individuals of Goniurosaurus kuroiwae kuroiwae (Gekkonomorpha: Eublepharidae) were observed during July to October 1999 on Okinawajima, Japan. The subtropical and nocturnal conditions presumably reduced the number of intervening factors. Statistical analyses, including stepwise regression analysis, attributed relative responsibilities to individual factors. Using reflecting adhesive tape, 66 individuals were individually marked. These yielded 60 observation bouts of 30 min, including 28 individuals observed on more than one night. The foraging behaviour was active, relatively ‘widely foraging’ compared to the ‘sit‐and‐wait’ behaviour of most other geckos, and variable both within and between individuals. Individuals with empty stomachs showed increased activity. Various components of the foraging behaviour and the factors affecting them radically differed between the sexes. The body temperature of females averaged 1°C higher than that of males. Female activity exceeded that of males and increased during July to October, being highest after cessation of oviposition. In both sexes activity correlated negatively with the duration of observation bouts and positively with ambient temperature, receding around midnight. Under a full moon males were more active but fewer females emerged from shelters. The effect of tail regeneration differed sexually. These innovative results dictate caution in the manufacture of foraging behaviour data for comparative purposes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Insectivorous lizards usually employ one of two foraging modes, ambush 'sit-and-wait' or active 'widely foraging', but in the Gekkonomorpha the situation has been unclear. Therefore we quantified the foraging mode of the eublepharid gecko Goniurosaurus kuroiwae orientalis on Tokashikijima near Okinawajima, Japan, in September 1999. The taxon is rare, endangered and protected. On the selected semi-urban study site the gecko was confirmed as a nocturnal cursorial gecko, which also ascends trees up to 1.8 m. Foraging regimes of marked individuals, during repeated 30-min observation periods, could vary from immobility throughout, to active locomotion 84% of the time. Foraging mode was not significantly affected by sex, body length, mass or state of tail regeneration of the individuals, or by the timing of the observation. In males, at higher temperatures single moves became longer, while time allocated to moving was stable. In both sexes longer observation bouts included longer sitting pauses, which, given stable move duration, reduced the share of time spent moving and the moves per minute. Goniurosaurus kuroiwae orientalis averaged moving during 23% of the time, moving 0.39 times per minute, the moves lasting 77 s and the pauses lasting 745 s. Compared to other geckos, G. k. orientalis may be defined as a widely foraging animal, despite its mixed behaviour. This result supports the definition of the Eublepharidae as widely foraging and is compatible with two hypotheses, that early Gekkonomorpha were widely foraging or that they had an intermediate, undefined, foraging mode. Here, we report the reactivity of copper(I) clusters toward sulfide ions; these sulfide copper(I) clusters have attracted much attention due to their relevance to biologically active centers and their fascinating structural and photophysical properties. Treatment of the Cu I 3 Rh III 2 pentanuclear complex, [Cu 3 {Rh(aet) 3 } 2 ] 3+ (aet=2-aminoethanethiolate), in which a {Cu I 3 } 3+ cluster moiety is bound by two fac-[Rh(aet) 3 ] metalloligands, with NaSH in water produced the Cu I 6 Rh III 4 decanuclear complex, [Cu 6 S{Rh(aet) 3 } 4 ] 4+ , accompanied by the dimerization of [Cu 3 {Rh(aet) 3 } 2 ] 3+ and the incorporation of a sulfide ion at the center. While similar treatment using the analogous Cu I 3 Ir III 2 complex with fac-[Ir(aet) 3 ] metalloligands, [Cu 3 {Ir(aet) 3 } 2 ] 3+ , produced the isostructural Cu I 6 Ir III 4 decanuclear complex, [Cu 6 S{Ir(aet) 3 } 4 ] 4+ , the use of the Cu I 3 Rh III 2 complex with fac-[Rh(apt) 3 ] metalloligands, [Cu 3 {Rh(apt) 3 } 2 ] 3+ (apt=3-aminopropanethiolate), resulted in the removal of one of the three Cu I atoms from {Cu I 3 } 3+ to afford the Cu I 2 Rh III 2 tetranuclear complex, [Cu 2 {Rh(apt) 3 } 2 ] 2+ ., (© 2024 The Authors. Matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7) has been shown to play an important role in pathophysiological processes such as cancer and fibrosis. We previously discovered selective MMP-7 inhibitors by molecular hybridization and structure-based drug design. However, the systemic clearance (CL tot ) of the biologically active lead compound was very high. Because our studies revealed that hepatic uptake by organic anion transporting polypeptide (OATP) was responsible for the high CL tot , we found a novel approach to reducing their uptake based on isoelectric point (IP) values as an indicator for substrate recognition by OATP1B1/1B3. Our "IP shift strategy" to adjust the IP values culminated in the discovery of TP0628103 ( 18 ), which is characterized by reduced in vitro OATP-mediated hepatic uptake and in vivo CL tot . Our in vitro - in vivo extrapolation of OATP-mediated clearance and the "IP shift strategy" provide crucial insights for a new medicinal chemistry approach to reducing the systemic clearance of OATP1B1/1B3 substrates.

This study investigated the protective effect of carnosine and its components (L-histidine and β-alanine [HA]) against dexamethasone (Dex)-induced muscle atrophy in C2C12 myotubes. Myotubes were treated with Dex (10 μM) to induce muscle atrophy manifested by decreased myotube diameter, low myosin heavy chain content, and increased expression of muscle atrophy-associated ubiquitin ligases (Atrogin-1, MuRF-1, and Cbl-b). Carnosine (20 mM) treatment significantly improved the myotube diameter and MyHC protein expression level in Dex-treated C2C12 myotubes. It also downregulated the expression of Atrogin-1, MuRF-1, and Cbl-b and suppressed the expression of forkhead box O3 (FoxO3a) mediated by Dex. Furthermore, reactive oxygen species production was increased by Dex but was ameliorated by carnosine treatment. However, HA (20 mM), the component of carnosine, treatment was found ineffective in preventing Dex-induced protein damage. Therefore, based on above results it can be suggested that carnosine could be a potential therapeutic agent to prevent Dex-induced muscle atrophy compared to its components HA.

We demonstrate magneto-optical (MO) polarization transformation due to surface plasmons in CoPt perpendicular magnetic films in the polar Kerr geometry. An extraordinary Kerr rotation angle (θ K  =  ± 88.9°) that almost reaches the upper limit of polarization is produced in the attenuated total reflection (Kretschmann) configuration. P-polarized incident radiation is almost transformed upon reflection to s-polarized radiation, which may be out of phase depending on whether the magnetization of CoPt is up or down. Moreover, the reflected intensity may be drastically modulated by applying an external magnetic field. The reflectivity goes almost to zero in the demagnetized state and increases with increasing external magnetic field. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) tend to have tumor-promoting capacity, and can provide therapeutic targets. Even without cancer cells, CAF phenotypes are stably maintained, and DNA methylation and H3K27me3 changes have been shown to be involved. Here, we searched for a potential therapeutic target in primary CAFs from gastric cancer and a mechanism for its dysregulation. Expression microarray using eight CAFs and seven non-CAFs (NCAFs) revealed that serum amyloid A1 (SAA1), which encodes an acute phase secreted protein, was second most upregulated in CAFs, following IGF2. Conditioned medium (CM) derived from SAA1-overexpressing NCAFs was shown to increase migration of gastric cancer cells compared with that from control NCAFs, and its tumor-promoting effect was comparable to that of CM from CAFs. In addition, increased migration of cancer cells by CM from CAFs was mostly canceled with CM from CAFs with SAA1 knockdown. Chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)-quantitative PCR showed that CAFs had higher levels of H3K27ac, an active enhancer mark, in the promoter and the two far upstream regions of SAA1 than NCAFs. Also, BET bromodomain inhibitors, JQ1 and mivebresib, decreased SAA1 expression and tumor-promoting effects in CAFs, suggesting SAA1 upregulation by enhancer activation in CAFs. We have fabricated a high quality magnetic Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 ferrite powder/polymer composite sheet consisting of common and environmentally friendly elements only. The sheet was then tested for its dynamic permeability by irradiating with electromagnetic waves with frequencies up to 50 GHz. Two different originally developed methods were used for the high-frequency permeability measurements, a short-circuited microstrip line method and a microstrip line-probe method. It is challenging to measure the dynamic permeability of magnetic thin films/sheets beyond 10 GHz because of the low response signal from these materials. However, the two methods produced essentially equivalent results. In the frequency dependent permeability profile, the maximum position of the profile, [Formula: see text], shifted towards higher frequencies upon increasing an applied (strong) static external magnetic field, [Formula: see text]. A linear relationship between [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] for the entire range of [Formula: see text] was observed even at small [Formula: see text]. In general, the spinel-structured Ni-based ferrites exhibit low magnetic anisotropy, but the present sample showed a uniaxial-anisotropic behavior in the parallel direction of the sheet. Our Ni 0.5 Zn 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 powder/polymer composite sheet thus exhibits high performance at GHz frequencies, and should be applicable e.g. as an anisotropic electromagnetic wave-interference material.

Objective: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), a major component of cancer stroma, can confer aggressive properties to cancer cells by secreting multiple factors. Their phenotypes are stably maintained, but the mechanisms are not fully understood. We aimed to show the critical role of epigenetic changes in CAFs in maintaining their tumour-promoting capacity and to show the validity of the epigenomic approach in identifying therapeutic targets from CAFs to starve cancer cells., Design: Twelve pairs of primary gastric CAFs and their corresponding non-CAFs (NCAFs) were established from surgical specimens. Genome-wide DNA methylation and H3K27me3 analyses were conducted by BeadArray 450K and ChIP-on-Chip, respectively. Functions of potential a therapeutic target were analysed by inhibiting it, and prognostic impact was assessed in a database., Results: CAFs had diverse and distinct DNA methylation and H3K27me3 patterns compared with NCAFs. Loss of H3K27me3, but not DNA methylation, in CAFs was enriched for genes involved in stem cell niche, cell growth, tissue development and stromal-epithelial interactions, such as WNT5A , GREM1 , NOG and IGF2 . Among these, we revealed that WNT5A, which had been considered to be derived from cancer cells, was highly expressed in cancer stromal fibroblasts, and was associated with poor prognosis. Inhibition of secreted WNT5A from CAFs suppressed cancer cell growth and migration., Conclusions: H3K27me3 plays a crucial role in defining tumour-promoting capacities of CAFs, and multiple stem cell niche factors were secreted from CAFs due to loss of H3K27me3. DNA demethylation therapy is now expanding from hematological tumors to solid tumors. To exploit its maximum efficacy, long-term treatment is needed, and stratification of sensitive patients is critically important. Here, we identified a long non-coding RNA, LINC00162, as highly and frequently expressed in gastric cancer cell lines sensitive to 5-aza-2'-deoxycytidine (5-aza-dC). Knockdown of LINC00162 decreased the sensitivity while its overexpression increased the sensitivity. In vivo experiments also showed that LINC00162 overexpression increased the sensitivity. LINC00162 enhanced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis induced by 5-aza-dC, but did not affect its DNA demethylation effect. Mechanistically, LINC00162 interacted with an RNA splicing protein, HNRNPH1, and decreased splicing of an anti-apoptotic splicing variant, BCL-XL. LINC00162 may have translational value to predict patients who will respond to 5-aza-dC.

Maintaining a good ventricular systolic function is important in the long-term therapy of dogs with supraventricular tachyarrhythmia (SVTA). The objective of this study was to evaluate the inhibitory effect of telmisartan on myocardial injury and the resulting ventricular systolic dysfunction in a canine model of SVTA. A total of 14 dogs were randomly assigned to a Telmisartan (oral telmisartan, 1.0 mg/kg daily, n=7) or a Control (no drug administration, n=7) group; the duration of rapid atrial pacing (RAP) was 3 weeks for both groups. The cardiac troponin I (cTnI) concentration in the Control group was significantly increased after 3 weeks compared to that before RAP initiation (baseline), but no significant difference was observed in the Telmisartan group. Moreover, the cTnI concentration at 3 weeks was significantly lower in the Telmisartan group than in the Control group. The left ventricular fractional shortening was significantly decreased at 3 weeks compared to that at baseline in both groups. However, fractional shortening at 3 weeks was significantly higher in the Telmisartan group than in the Control group. The cardiac output values in the Control group were significantly decreased at 3 weeks compared with those at baseline, but no significant difference was observed in the Telmisartan group. This study demonstrates that telmisartan inhibits the reduction in ventricular systolic function and prevents myocardial injury in a canine model of SVTA. Therefore, telmisartan is suggested as a novel treatment for canine SVTA.

For the first time, this work presents a novel room temperature time-effective concept to manipulate the crystallization kinetics and magnetic responses of thin films grown on amorphous substrates. Conventionally, metal-induced crystallization is adopted to minimize the crystallization temperature of the upper-layer thin film. However, due to the limited surface area of the continuous metal under-layer, the degree of crystallization is insufficient and post-annealing is required. To expose a large surface area of the metal under-layer, we propose a simple and novel approach of using an Au nanodots array instead of a continuous metallic under-layer to obtain crystallization of upper-layer thin films. Spinel cobalt ferrite (CFO) thin film as a 'model' was deposited on an Au nano-dots array to realize this methodology. Our findings revealed that the addition of quantum-sized Au nano-dots as a metal under-layer dramatically enhanced the crystallization of the cobalt ferrite upper layer at room temperature. The appearance of major X-ray diffraction peaks with high intensity and well-defined crystallized lattice planes observed via transmission electron microscopy confirmed the crystallization of the CFO thin film deposited at room temperature on 4 nm-sized Au nano-dots. This crystallized CFO thin film exhibits 18-fold higher coercivity (H c = 4150 Oe) and 4-fold higher saturation magnetization (M s = 262 emu cm -3 ) compared to CFO deposited without the Au under-layer. The development of this novel concept of room-temperature crystallization without the aid of additives and solvents represents a crucial breakthrough that is highly significant for exploring the green and energy-efficient synthesis of a variety of oxide and metal thin films.

In this study, we clarified the functions of three uncharacterized enzymes, XCV2724, XCV2728, and XCV2729, in Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, the causal agent of bacterial spot of tomato and pepper. The genes corresponding to the three enzymes are homologs of hypBA1, hypBA2, and hypAA from Bifidobacterium longum and are unique to Xanthomonas spp. among plant pathogenic bacteria. Functional characterization of the recombinant enzymes expressed using microbial systems revealed that they degrade the arabinofurano-oligosaccharides present on hydroxyproline (Hyp)-rich glycoproteins (HRGPs) such as extensin and solanaceous lectins in plant cell walls. These enzymes work coordinately to degrade the oligosaccharides. First, XeHypAA (XCV2728), belonging to the glycoside hydrolase (GH) 43 family, releases L-arabinose from L-arabinofuranose (Araf)-α1,3-Araf-ß1,2-Araf-ß1,2-Araf-ß-Hyp (Ara4-Hyp), cleaving its α1,3 bond; second, XeHypBA2 (XCV2729), belonging to the GH121 family, releases the disaccharide Araf-ß1,2-Araf from Araf-ß1,2-Araf-ß1,2-Araf-ß-Hyp (Ara3-Hyp); finally, XeHypBA1 (XCV2724), belonging to GH family 127, releases L-arabinose from Araf-ß-Hyp (Ara-Hyp). In summary, the main oligosaccharide structure of Ara4-Hyp on the HRGPs is degraded to Ara3-Hyp, then to Ara-Hyp, and finally to Ara monosaccharides by the action of these three enzymes. HRGPs containing oligosaccharide substrates have been reported to contribute to plant defense, and interestingly, the promoter region of the operon (xehypBA2 and xehypAA) contains the plant-inducible promoter box for binding the regulator protein HrpX involved in pathogenicity. We then analyzed the expression level of the operon gene in hrp-inducing medium and in plants and constructed gene-deletion mutants. However, although the operon was evidently upregulated by HrpX, three single-gene deletion mutants (ΔxehypBA1, ΔxehypBA2, ΔxehypAA) and even a triple-gene deletion mutant (ΔxehypBA1-BA2-AA) remained pathogenic, and had no effect on nonhost resistance, either, indicating that these three enzymes are not involved in either pathogenicity or nonhost resistance reactions. Treatment of a racemic RhIII4ZnII4 complex, (Δ)4/(Λ)4-[Zn4O{Rh(aet)3}4]6+ (aet = 2-aminoethanethiolate), with d-penicillaminate (d-pen) gave optically pure ionic crystals composed of (Λ)4-[Zn4O{Rh(aet)3}4]6+ and ΛD-[Rh(d-pen)3]3-via intramolecular and intermolecular chiral transfers from d-pen.

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of CT image-guided proton radiotherapy for prostate cancer by analyzing the positioning uncertainty and assessing daily dose change due to anatomical variations., Materials and Methods: Patients with prostate cancer were treated by opposed lateral proton beams based on a passive scattering method using an in-room CT image-guided system. The system employs a single couch for both CT scanning and beam delivery. The patient was positioned by matching the boundary between the prostate and the rectum's anterior region identified in the CT images to the corresponding boundary in the simulator images after bone matching. We acquired orthogonal kV x-ray images after couch movement and confirmed the body position by referring to the bony structure prior to treatment. In offline analyses, we contoured the targeted anatomical structures on 375 sets of daily in-room CT images for 10 patients. The uncertainty of the image-matching procedure was evaluated using the prostate contours and actual couch corrections. We also performed dose calculations using the same set of CT images, and evaluated daily change of dose-volume histograms (DVHs) to compare the effectiveness of the treatment using prostate matching to the bone-matching procedure., Results: The isocenter shifts by prostate matching after bone matching were 0.5 ± 1.8 and -0.8 ± 2.6 mm along the superior-inferior (SI) and anterior-posterior (AP) directions, respectively. The body movement errors (σ) after couch movement were 0.7, 0.5, and 0.3 mm along the lateral, SI and AP direction, respectively, for 30 patients. The estimated errors (σ) in the prostate matching were 1.0 and 1.3 mm, and, in conjunction with the movement errors, the total positioning uncertainty was estimated to be 1.0 and 1.4 mm along the SI and AP directions, respectively. Daily DVH analyses showed that in the prostate matching, 98.7% and 86.1% of the total 375 irradiations maintained a dose condition of V 95%  > 95% for the prostate and a dose constraint of V 77%  < 18% for the rectum, whereas 90.4% and 66.1% of the total irradiations did so when bone matching was used. The dose constraint of the rectum and dose coverage of the prostate were better maintained by prostate matching than bone matching (P < 0.001). The daily variation in the dose to the seminal vesicles (SVs) was large, and only 40% of the total irradiations maintained the initial planned values of V 95% for high-risk treatment. Nevertheless, the deviations from the original value were -4 ± 7% and -5 ± 11% in the prostate and bone matching, respectively, and a better dose coverage of the SV was achieved by the prostate matching., Conclusion: The correction of repositioning along the AP and SI direction from conventional bone matching in CT image-guided proton therapy was found to be effective to maintain the dose constraint of the rectum and the dose coverage of the prostate. This work indicated that prostate cancer treatment by prostate matching using CT image guidance may be effective to reduce the rectal complications and achieve better tumor control of the prostate. In striated muscles, approximately 300 myosin molecules form a single thick filament in myofibrils. Each myosin is continuously displaced by another myosin to maintain the thick filament structure. Our previous study using a fluorescence recovery after photobleaching (FRAP) technique showed that the myosin replacement rate is decreased by inhibition of protein synthesis, but myosin is still exchangeable. This result prompted us to examine whether myosin in the cytoplasm is involved in myosin replacement in myofibrils. To address this, FRAP was measured in green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged myosin heavy chain 3 (Myh3) expressing myotubes that were treated with streptolysin-O (SLO), which forms pores specifically in the plasma membrane to induce leakage of cytoplasmic proteins. Our biochemical data demonstrated that the cytoplasmic myosin content was reduced in SLO-permeabilized semi-intact myotubes. Furthermore, FRAP experiments showed a sluggish substitution rate of GFP-Myh3 in SLO-permeabilized myotubes. Taken together, these results demonstrate that the myosin substitution rate is significantly reduced by a decreased amount of myosin in the cytoplasm and that cytoplasmic myosin contributes to myosin replacement in myofibrils., (© 2017 Japanese Society of Animal Science.)

The direct and selective functionalization of C-H bonds of arenes is one of the most challenging yet valuable aims in organic synthesis. Despite notable recent achievements, a pre-installed directing group proved to be essential in most of the methodologies reported so far. In this context, the use of a transient directing group that can be generated in situ has attracted attention and demonstrated the great potential of this strategy. Here we report the use of an in situ generated palladacycle to accomplish remote-selective C-H alkylation reactions of arenes. Following the C-H functionalization event, the alkylated aryl ring undergoes a formal migration to provide diversely substituted benzofuran and indole scaffolds. Computational studies revealed that a palladium(IV) intermediate is not involved in the alkylation step. The aryl migration was found to proceed through a sequential C-C bond cleavage, insertion and β-hydride-elimination process. The increasing steric bulk that builds up during the C-H functionalization step drives the unusual C-C bond cleavage in a non-strained system.

Ordered, two-dimensional, self-organized Au nanoparticles were fabricated using radiofrequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. The particles were uniformly spherical in shape and ultrafine in size (3-7 nm) and showed an ultrahigh density in the order of ∼10(12) inch(-2). A custom-developed sputtering apparatus that employs low sputtering power density and a minimized sputtering time (1 min) was used to markedly simplify the preparation conditions for Au nanoparticle fabrication. The spatial distribution of Au nanoparticles was rigorously controlled by placing a Ta interfacial layer between the Au nanoparticles and substrate as well as by post-annealing samples in an Ar atmosphere after the formation of Au nanoparticles. The interfacial layer and the post-annealing step caused approximately 40% of the Au nanoparticles on the substrate surface to orient in the (111) direction. This method was shown to produce ultrafine Au nanoparticles showing an ultrahigh surface density. The crystal orientation of the nanoparticles can be precisely controlled with respect to the substrate surface. Therefore, this technique promises to deliver tunable nanostructures for applications in the field of high-performance electronic devices.

Perpendicular magnetization and precise control over the magnetic easy axis in magnetic thin film is necessary for a variety of applications, particularly in magnetic recording media. A strong (111) orientation is successfully achieved in the CoFe2O4 (CFO) thin film at relatively low substrate temperature of 100 °C, whereas the (311)-preferred randomly oriented CFO is prepared at room temperature by the DC magnetron sputtering technique. The oxygen-deficient porous CFO film after post-annealing gives rise to compressive strain perpendicular to the film surface, which induces large perpendicular coercivity. We observe the coercivity of 11.3 kOe in the 40-nm CFO thin film, which is the highest perpendicular coercivity ever achieved on an amorphous SiO2/Si substrate. The present approach can guide the systematic tuning of the magnetic easy axis and coercivity in the desired direction with respect to crystal orientation in the nanoscale regime. Importantly, this can be achieved on virtually any type of substrate.

Early ambulation after open abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) surgery is assumed to play a key role in preventing postoperative complications and reducing hospital length of stay. However, the factors predicting early ambulation after open AAA surgery have not yet been sufficiently investigated. Here, we investigated which preoperative and intraoperative variables are associated with start time for ambulation in patients after open AAA surgery. A total of 67 consecutive patients undergoing open AAA surgery were included in the study [male, 62 (92 %); mean age, 68 years (range, 47-82 years), mean AAA diameter, 53 mm (range, 28-80 mm)]. Preoperative physical activity was examined by means of 6-min walk distance (6MWD) and a medical interview. Patients were divided into two groups, according to when independence in walking was attained: early group <3 days (n = 36) and late group ≥3 days (n = 31), and the pre-, intra-, and postoperative recovery data were compared. There were no significant differences in patient baseline characteristics or intraoperative data between the two groups. The number of patients engaging in preoperative regular physical activity and 6MWD were significantly greater (p = 0.042 and p = 0.034, respectively) in the early group than in the late group. In addition, time to hospital discharge was significantly shorter in the early group than in the late group (p = 0.031). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that preoperative regular physical activity was the only independent factor for identifying patients in the early group (odds ratio 2.769, 95 % confidence interval 1.024-7.487, p = 0.045). These results suggest that engaging in regular physical activity is an effective predictor of early ambulation after open AAA surgery.
