51. Construction of Trusted Wireless Sensor Networks with Lightweight Bilateral Authentication

Abstract: Sensor networks are ad hoc mobile networks that include sensor nodes with limited computational and communication capabilities. They have become an economically viable monitoring solution for a wide variety of applications. Obviously, security threats need to be addressed and, taking into account its limited resources, the use of lightweight authentication is strongly recommended. In this paper, a lightweight authentication model for wireless sensor networks composed of a key management and an authentication protocol is presented. It is based on the use of trusted primitives with very low computational requirements, which obtains better results than other proposals in the literatures.

Abstract: Searches for a light sterile neutrino have been performed independently by the MINOS and the Daya Bay experiments using the muon (anti)neutrino and electron antineutrino disappearance channels, respectively. In this Letter, results from both experiments are combined with those from the Bugey-3 reactor neutrino experiment to constrain oscillations into light sterile neutrinos. The three experiments are sensitive to complementary regions of parameter space, enabling the combined analysis to probe regions allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE experiments in a minimally extended four-neutrino flavor framework. Stringent limits on $\sin^2 2\theta_{\mu e}$ are set over 6 orders of magnitude in the sterile mass-squared splitting $\Delta m^2_{41}$. The sterile-neutrino mixing phase space allowed by the LSND and MiniBooNE experiments is excluded for $\Delta m^2_{41} < 0.8$ eV$^2$ at 95% CL$_s$., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, published in Physical Review Letters. Abstract: To provide more reasonable references for remedying underground water, fuel leak was simulated by establishing an experimental model of a porous-aquifer sand tank with the same size as that of the actual tank and by monitoring the underground water. In the tank, traditional gasoline and ethyl alcohol gasoline were poured. This study was conducted to achieve better understanding of the migration and distribution of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX), which are major pollutants in the underground water. Experimental results showed that, compared with conventional gasoline, the content peak of BTEX in the mixture of ethyl alcohol gasoline appeared later; BTEX migrated along the water flow direction horizontally and presented different pollution halos; BTEX also exhibited the highest content level at 45 cm depth; however, its content declined at the 30 and 15 cm depths vertically because of the vertical dispersion effect; the rise of underground water level increased the BTEX content, and the attenuation of BTEX content in underground water was related to the biodegradation in the sand tank, which mainly included biodegradation with oxygen, nitrate, and sulfate.

Abstract: This Letter reports an improved search for light sterile neutrino mixing in the electron antineutrino disappearance channel with the full configuration of the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. With an additional 404 days of data collected in eight antineutrino detectors, this search benefits from 3.6 times the statistics available to the previous publication, as well as from improvements in energy calibration and background reduction. A relative comparison of the rate and energy spectrum of reactor antineutrinos in the three experimental halls yields no evidence of sterile neutrino mixing in the $2\times10^{-4} \lesssim |\Delta m^{2}_{41}| \lesssim 0.3$ eV$^{2}$ mass range. The resulting limits on $\sin^{2}2\theta_{14}$ are improved by approximately a factor of 2 over previous results and constitute the most stringent constraints to date in the $|\Delta m^{2}_{41}| \lesssim 0.2$ eV$^{2}$ region., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 table

Abstract: To estimate the behavior of ethanol-blended dissolved BTEX hydrocarbons in groundwater, a quantitative tracing study instead of qualitative analysis was carried out by using a large sand tank, into which 2-L solution including bromide, ethanol and dissolved BTEX was injected under a controlled hydraulic condition. Mean residence time (MRT), pore volume swept by solute (V p), retardation coefficient (R) and biodegradation rate constant (k) of injected solutes were estimated. Compared with bromide that was used as a conservative tracer, ethanol and BTEX had shorter MRT and smaller V p with the sequence of EtOH T > E > m/p-X > o-X > B was just opposite to the sequences of MRT and V p. The relationship among above sequences implies that MRT and V p can be used as indicators to assess in situ biodegradability of a solute. Biodegradation of a reactive solute can make its MRT shortened and V p shrunk. In addition, the sorption of ethanol could be neglected (R = 1.0), whereas BTEX compounds were adsorbed (R = 1.04–1.15). It should be noted that biodegradation of a solute can affect the estimation of its retardation coefficient. To our knowledge, this paper provides an available route to quantitatively estimate biodegradability of a solute in groundwater.

59. Numerical Simulation of the Effect about Groundwater Level Fluctuation on the Concentration of BTEX Dissolved into Source Zone

Abstract: The water level fluctuation of groundwater will affect the BTEX dissolution in the fuel leakage source zone. In order to study the effect, a leakage test of gasoline was performed in the sand-tank model in the laboratory, and the concentrations of BTEX along with water level were monitored over a long period. Combined with VISUAL MODFLOW software, RT3D module was used to simulate the concentrations of BTEX, and mass flux method was used to evaluate the effects of water level fluctuation on the BTEX dissolution. The results indicate that water level fluctuation can significantly increase the concentration of BTEX dissolved in the leakage source zone. The dissolved amount of BTEX can reach up to 2.4 times under the water level fluctuation condition. The method of numerical simulation combined with mass flux calculation can be used to evaluate the effect of water level fluctuation on BTEX dissolution.

60. Modelling count data with excessive zeros: The need for class prediction in zero-inflated models and the issue of data generation in choosing between zero-inflated and generic mixture models for dental caries data

Abstract: Count data may possess an 'excess' of zeros relative to standard distributions. Zero-inflated Poisson (ZiP) or binomial (ZiB) and generic mixture models have been proposed to deal with such data. We consider biomedical count data with an excess number of zeros and seek to address the following: (i) do zero-inflated models need covariates in the distribution part to predict class membership; (ii) what model-fit criteria have clinical relevance to predicted counts; (iii) can very different model parameterizations have near-identical fit; and (iv) how could model selection and hence model interpretation be aided by considering data generation processes? We show that covariates in the distribution part of zero-inflated models are needed to predict class membership. A range of model-fit criteria should be considered, as consensus is rarely achieved, and considering predicted outcomes may be just as valuable as likelihood-based criteria. Zero-inflated and generic mixture models may be indistinguishable according to both likelihood-based model-fit criteria and predicted outcomes, in which case model differentiation, hence, model selection and interpretation, might be guided by the consideration of a priori data generation processes. Zero-inflated models reflect whether or not there are (or have been) risk differences in disease onset and disease progression, while generic mixture models identify sub-types of individuals with similar risks of disease onset and progression. One or both modelling strategies may be used, though a priori knowledge or clinical impression of data generation might help to distinguish between two or more parameterizations that exhibit similar fit and yield near-identical predicted counts.

And we provide the security features of transmitted data protection and the corresponding properties of digital watermarking in WSN. As an example, we introduce an efficient watermarking-based data protection scheme. Our data protection scheme utilizes self-embedding watermarking for image data to provide content audit, and support authenticity and integrity for image content in WSN. Moreover, our scheme also supports the copyright protection of image by self-embedded technology. That is, we integrate image content authentication, integrity audit service and copyright protection through a multiple function self-embedded watermarking scheme, which is the advantage of our scheme.

Abstract: We report a new measurement of electron antineutrino disappearance using the fully-constructed Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment. The final two of eight antineutrino detectors were installed in the summer of 2012. Including the 404 days of data collected from October 2012 to November 2013 resulted in a total exposure of 6.9$\times$10$^5$ GW$_{\rm th}$-ton-days, a 3.6 times increase over our previous results. Improvements in energy calibration limited variations between detectors to 0.2%. Removal of six $^{241}$Am-$^{13}$C radioactive calibration sources reduced the background by a factor of two for the detectors in the experimental hall furthest from the reactors. Direct prediction of the antineutrino signal in the far detectors based on the measurements in the near detectors explicitly minimized the dependence of the measurement on models of reactor antineutrino emission. The uncertainties in our estimates of $\sin^{2}2\theta_{13}$ and $|\Delta m^2_{ee}|$ were halved as a result of these improvements. Analysis of the relative antineutrino rates and energy spectra between detectors gave $\sin^{2}2\theta_{13} = 0.084\pm0.005$ and $|\Delta m^{2}_{ee}|= (2.42\pm0.11) \times 10^{-3}$ eV$^2$ in the three-neutrino framework., Comment: Updated to match final published version

Abstract: Reactor neutrino experiments build large-scale detector systems to detect neutrinos. In liquid scintillator, a neutral bound state of a positron and an electron, named positronium, can be formed. The spin triplet state is called ortho-positronium (o-Ps). In this article, an experiment is designed to measure the lifetime of o-Ps, giving a result of 3.1 ns. A PSD parameter based on photon emission time distribution (PETD) was constructed to discriminate e$^+$/e$^-$. Finally, the application of e$^+$/e$^-$ discrimination in the JUNO experiment is shown. It helps suppress $^{8}$He/$^{9}$Li backgrounds and improves the sensitivity by 0.6 in $\chi^2$ analysis with an assumption of $\sigma$=1 ns PMT Transit Time Spread, which will bring a smearing effect to the PETD.

Abstract: A new measurement of the θ_(13) mixing angle has been obtained at the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment via the detection of inverse beta decays tagged by neutron capture on hydrogen. The antineutrino events for hydrogen capture are distinct from those for gadolinium capture with largely different systematic uncertainties, allowing a determination independent of the gadolinium-capture result and an improvement on the precision of the θ_(13) measurement. With a 217-day antineutrino data set obtained with six antineutrino detectors and from six 2.9 GW_(th) reactors, the rate deficit observed at the far hall is interpreted as sin^2 2θ_(13) = 0.083±0.018 in the three-flavor oscillation model. When combined with the gadolinium-capture result from Daya Bay, we obtain sin^2 2θ_(13) = 0.089±0.008 as the final result for the six-antineutrino-detector configuration of the Daya Bay experiment.

Abstract: The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment has measured a non-zero value of the neutrino mixing angle θ13 with a significance of 7.7 standard deviations by a rate-only analysis.1 The distortion of neutrino energy spectrum carries additional oscillation information and can improve the sensitivity of θ13 as well as measure neutrino mass splitting [Formula: see text]. A rate plus shape analysis is performed and the results have been published.2 Understanding detector energy non-linearity response is crucial for the rate plus shape analysis. In this contribution, we present a brief description of energy non-linearity studies at Daya Bay.

Abstract: In biomedical research, data generated as a consequence of the count process can often possess an ‘excess’ of zeros (e.g. geographical incidence rates, hospital death rates). Whilst there are strategies for analysing such data, some can be biased where the underlying data generation process is not carefully considered. This can be exacerbated where the data are also multilevel, since hierarchical extensions to zero-inflated model strategies do not always satisfy underlying model assumptions. We therefore review zero-inflated modelling strategies for single-level data and show why standard Poisson and binomial zero-inflated models (i.e. where one latent class has a central location of zero) require class membership to be predicted by covariates in the standard regression part of the model. We also introduce generic mixture models and reveal limitations in their interpretation in a number of circumstances. With nested or hierarchical count data with an excess of zeros, upper-level distributional assumptions may not be upheld for standard multilevel models, thereby requiring alternative strategies; in Chap. 7 we introduce and illustrate the semi-parametric multilevel model as a solution to this problem.

Abstract: To solve the problem of cannot positioning the flange bolt holes accurately and rapidly during the integral lifting process of offshore wind turbines' complete installation, an algorithm using image sensor to detect deviation of flange bolt holes, which is called discrete and variable step-size step motion control, is proposed. With the help of this algorithm, a control model is established and simulation is carried out. A coincide result is acquired when comparing the center tracks of simulation and practical installation, which in turn proves the effectiveness of the control algorithm. After optimizing the algorithm, a step-size factor is obtained, which can contribute to the least step times and the shorter path length of center track. Now this control algorithm has been applied in the installation of three wind turbines of 3MW and it serves vital roles as reference and guidance in large flange's accurate center position control of offshore wind turbines.

Abstract: Count data may possess an 'excess' of zeros relative to standard distributions. Zero-inflated Poisson (ZiP) or binomial (ZiB) and generic mixture models have been proposed to deal with such data. We consider biomedical count data with an excess number of zeros and seek to address the following: (i) do zero-inflated models need covariates in the distribution part to predict class membership; (ii) what model-fit criteria have clinical relevance to predicted counts; (iii) can very different model parameterizations have near-identical fit; and (iv) how could model selection and hence model interpretation be aided by considering data generation processes? We show that covariates in the distribution part of zero-inflated models are needed to predict class membership. A range of model-fit criteria should be considered, as consensus is rarely achieved, and considering predicted outcomes may be just as valuable as likelihood-based criteria. Zero-inflated and generic mixture models may be indistinguishable according to both likelihood-based model-fit criteria and predicted outcomes, in which case model differentiation, hence, model selection and interpretation, might be guided by the consideration of a priori data generation processes. Zero-inflated models reflect whether or not there are (or have been) risk differences in disease onset and disease progression, while generic mixture models identify sub-types of individuals with similar risks of disease onset and progression. One or both modelling strategies may be used, though a priori knowledge or clinical impression of data generation might help to distinguish between two or more parameterizations that exhibit similar fit and yield near-identical predicted counts.

Abstract: The flatfish species dab (Limanda limanda) is the sentinel for offshore marine monitoring in the United Kingdom National Marine Monitoring Programme (NMMP). At certain sites in the North and Irish Seas, the prevalence of macroscopic liver tumors can exceed 10%. The plasma proteome of these fish potentially contains reporter proteins or "biomarkers" that may enable development of diagnostic tests for liver cancer and further our understanding of the disease. Following selection of sample groups by quality-assured histopathology ("phenotype anchoring"), we used surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization (SELDI) time-of-flight mass spectrometry to produce proteomic profiles of plasma from 213 dab collected during the 2004 UK NMMP. The resulting protein profiles were compared between fish from the North and Irish Seas and between fish with liver neoplasia or nondiseased liver. Significant differences were found between the plasma proteomes of dab from the North Sea and Irish Sea, which in conjunction with artificial neural networks can correctly determine from which sea dab were captured in 85% of the cases. In addition, the presence of liver tumors is associated with significant changes in the plasma proteome. We conclude that SELDI-based plasma profiling is potentially of use in nonlethal marine monitoring using wild sentinels such as dab. Furthermore, accurate selection of sample groups is critical for avoiding effects of confounding factors such as age, gender, and geographic origin of samples.

Abstract: Background: General practitioners' remuneration is now linked directly to the scores attained in the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF). The success of this approach depends in part on designing a robust and clinically meaningful set of indicators. The aim of this study was to assess the extent to which measures of health observed in practice populations are correlated with their QOF scores, after accounting for the established associations between health outcomes and socio-demographics. Methods: QOF data for the period April 2004 to March 2005 were obtained for all general practices in two English Primary Care Trusts. These data were linked to data for emergency hospital admissions (for asthma, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary hear disease, diabetes, stroke and all other conditions) and all cause mortality for the period September 2004 to August 2005. Multilevel logistic regression models explored the association between health outcomes (hospital admission and death) and practice QOF scores (clinical, additional services and organisational domains), age, sex and socio-economic deprivation. Results: Higher clinical domain scores were generally associated with lower admission rates and this was significant for cancer and other conditions in PCT 2. Higher scores in the additional services domain were associated with higher admission rates, significantly so for asthma, CHD, stroke and other conditions in PCT 1 and cancer in PCT 2. Little association was observed between the organisational domain scores and admissions. The relationship between the QOF variables and mortality was less clear. Being female was associated with fewer admissions for cancer and CHD and lower mortality rates. Increasing age was mainly associated with an increased number of events. Increasing deprivation was associated with higher admission rates for all conditions and with higher mortality rates. Conclusion: The associations between QOF scores and emergency admissions and mortality were small and inconsistent, whilst the impact of socio-economic deprivation on the outcomes was much stronger. These results have implications for the use of target-based remuneration of general practitioners and emphasise the need to tackle inequalities and improve the health of disadvantaged groups and the population as a whole. Abstract: With the rapid growth of wireless sensor networks, secure data transmission, storage, and distribution in such networks has become an urgent demand. To defend against security risks such as data leakage, key compromise, and unauthorized misuse of data simultaneously, we propose a novel obfuscatable ciphertext-policy attribute-based re-encryption scheme with a specially designed obfuscator. The proposed scheme leverages program obfuscation to transform the re-encryption program codes into an unintelligible form and embed the private keys into the obfuscated implementation. Consequently, the proposed scheme protects data confidentiality and keeps the secrecy of the private key while providing fine-grained access control. Formal proofs for the security of the proposed re-encryption scheme and the obfuscator are provided. Extensive experiments have been conducted on representative platforms, including cloud servers, workstations, and embedded devices, to evaluate the computational efficiency and energy consumption of the scheme. Experimental results indicate that the scheme achieves high efficiency on various platforms and economical energy consumption on typical embedded devices with constrained resources. Abstract: As a new type of digital living space that blends virtual and reality, Metaverse combines many emerging technologies. It provides an immersive experience based on VR technology and stores and protects users' digital content and digital assets through blockchain technology. However, different virtual environments are often highly heterogeneous in terms of underlying architecture and software implementation technology, which leads to many challenges in scalability and interoperability for blockchains serving the Metaverse. Cross-chain technology is an essential technology to realize the scalability and interoperability of blockchain. However, the current cross-chain technologies all have their own merits and demerits, and there is no cross-chain solution that can be fully applied to any scenario. To this end, in the blockchain-based Metaverse, this article proposes a cross-chain transaction scheme based on improved hash timelock, HCNCT. By combining the notary mechanism, this scheme uses a group of notaries to supervise and participate in cross-chain transactions, effectively solving the problem that malicious users create a large number of time-out transactions to block the transaction channel, which exists in the traditional hash timelock method. Besides, this article uses the verifiable secret sharing method in the notary group, which can effectively prevent the centralization problem of the notary mechanism. Moreover, this article discusses the process of key processing, cross-chain transaction and transaction verification of the scheme, and designs the user credibility evaluation mechanism, which can effectively reduce the occurrence of malicious default of users. Compared with existing solutions, our solution has the advantage of effectively addressing time-out transaction attacks and centralization issues while guaranteeing security. Abstract: Background General practitioners' remuneration is now linked directly to the scores attained in the Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF). The success of this approach depends in part on designing a robust and clinically meaningful set of indicators. The aim of this study was to assess the extent to which measures of health observed in practice populations are correlated with their QOF scores, after accounting for the established associations between health outcomes and socio-demographics. Methods QOF data for the period April 2004 to March 2005 were obtained for all general practices in two English Primary Care Trusts. These data were linked to data for emergency hospital admissions (for asthma, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary hear disease, diabetes, stroke and all other conditions) and all cause mortality for the period September 2004 to August 2005. Multilevel logistic regression models explored the association between health outcomes (hospital admission and death) and practice QOF scores (clinical, additional services and organisational domains), age, sex and socio-economic deprivation. Abstract: Current online transactions of aquatic products are often plagued by problems such as low efficiency, high platform supervision cost, insufficient trust and leakage of transaction data. Blockchain has been widely used in many different fields due to its decentralization, non-tampering and distributed data management. In order to resolve the existing problems, a blockchain-based aquatic product trading matching model integrated with credit mechanisms is proposed in this study to improve the efficiency, quality, security and satisfaction of online transactions for aquatic products. Then, based on this model, an online trading matching prototype system for aquatic products is developed, taking the Hyperledger Fabric as the underlying architecture. The performance testing of the prototype system has demonstrated that the introduction of the credit mechanism has a certain improvement effect on the trading matching results of aquatic products, and the system can complete more than 1000 transactions within half an hour, which can satisfy the normal business-to-business online transaction needs for aquatic products. To a certain extent, it can reduce the security risks and supervision cost, and improve the efficiency and satisfaction of online transaction. Abstract: With the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), a large-scale, heterogeneous, and dynamic distributed network has been formed among IoT devices. There is an extreme need to establish a trust mechanism between devices, and blockchain can provide a zero-trust security framework for IoT. However, the efficiency of the blockchain is far from meeting the application requirements of the IoT, which has become the biggest resistance to the application of the blockchain in the IoT. Therefore, this paper combines sharding to build an effective Blockchain-based IoT data storage scheme (S-BDS). Sharding can solve the problem of blockchain capacity and scalability. While the blockchain provides data immutability and traceability for the IoT, it also brings huge demands for data credibility verification. The communication delay in the IoT system seriously affects the security of the system, while the Merkle proof of traditional blockchain occupies a lot of communication resources. This paper constructs Insertable Vector Commitment (IVC) in the bilinear group and replaces the Merkle tree with IVC to store IoT data in the blockchain. The construct has small-sized proof. It also has the ability to record the number of updates, which can prevent replay-attacks. Experiments show that each block processes 1,000 transactions, the proof size of a single data piece is 30% of the original scheme, and proofs from different shards can be aggregated. 88. Effect of calcination temperatures on the electrocatalytic performance of IrO2@RGO for oxygen evolution reaction.

Abstract: In this study, IrO2 was loaded on graphene oxide (GO) by a hydrothermal method, and an optimal temperature was established for the calcination step. The structure of IrO2@RGO calcined at different temperatures was determined by TEM and XRD. The results have revealed that the best dispersion of IrO2 on RGO was achieved after calcination at 350 ℃; IrO2 particles were evenly spread over the entire surface of the graphene substrate. Regular spherical nanostructures of IrO2@RGO were used as a working electrode for electrochemical analysis. The results confirmed that the performance of IrO2@RGO material at 350 ℃ was superior to composite materials at other temperatures in terms of activity in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). IrO2@RGO-350 ℃ showed better catalytic activity with an overpotential of 50 mV at the current density of 10 mA/cm−2 with a low Tafel slope of 85.1 mV dec−1. The outstanding OER performance is ascribed to the introduction of the RGO, which not only act as a support to prevent agglomeration of IrO2 nanoparticles that produces high surface area of catalytic sites, but also facilitates electron transfer between IrO2 nanoparticles and RGO. Abstract: Luminescent N-heterocyclic carbene chloride copper (I) complexes incorporating pyrene chromophore (1-Pyrenyl-NHC-R)-Cu-Cl, (3, 4) have been prepared and fully characterized. Two complexes were prepared with R = methyl (3) and R = naphthyl groups (4) at the nitrogen center of the carbene unit to tune their electronic properties. The molecular structures of 3 and 4 have been elucidated by X-ray diffraction and confirm the formation of the target compounds. Preliminary results reveal that all compounds including the imidazole-pyrenyl ligand 1 are emissive in the blue region at room temperature in solution and in solid-state. All complexes display quantum yields comparable or higher when compared to the parent pyrene molecule. Interestingly replacement of the methyl by naphthyl group increases the quantum yield by almost two-folds. These compounds might show promise for applications as optical displays. Abstract: Background and objective: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which has a complex pathogenesis and poor prognosis, is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Hepatitis virus B infection is the most common cause of HCC in Asian patients. Autophagy is the process of digestion and degradation, and studies have shown that autophagy-associated effects are closely related to the development of HCC. In this study, we aimed to construct a prognostic model based on autophagy-related genes (ARGs) for the Asian HCC population to provide new ideas for the clinical management of HCC in the Asian population. Methods: The clinical information and transcriptome data of Asian patients with HCC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, and 206 ARGs were downloaded from the human autophagy database (HADB). We performed differential and Cox regression analyses to construct a risk score model. The accuracy of the model was validated by using the Kaplan–Meier (K–M) survival curve, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and univariate and multivariate Cox independent prognostic analyses. The results Thirteen ARGs that were significantly associated with prognosis were finally identified by univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. The K–M survival curves showed that the survival rate of the low-risk group was significantly higher than that of the high-risk group (p < 0.001), and the multi-indicator ROC curves further demonstrated the predictive ability of the model (AUC = 0.877). Abstract: Mineral extraction can significantly affect the groundwater flow and hydrochemical environment. However, for hilly areas, significant ground elevation changes and complex geological conditions make it difficult to accurately analyze and predict the impact of mineral mining. This study takes the Nuodong rare earth mining area as an example. Based on field investigations and experiments, GOCAD software (version 2022) was used to establish a geological model in combination with GMS numerical simulation software, which was used to build a groundwater flow model and a solute transport model. The flow model in the hilly area indicated that the absolute error between the simulated and measured water levels of each observation well is 0.554 m. The solute-transport model showed that the maximum pollutant concentration of ammonia-nitrogen (NH3-N) in the liquid injection area, stream area, and village area monitoring wells reaches 139.15, 27.9, and <0.5 mg/L, respectively. During the mining period, streams in the area are affected by NH3-N, which threatens the safety of the water for mine area residents. To control pollutant transport, two stages of pumping were adopted to reduce NH3-N concentrations in groundwater. After adopting the first stage, the peak concentration of the stream area monitoring wells decreased significantly, with the maximum peak concentration decreasing from 27.9 mg/L to 5.51 mg/L. Based on the results of the first stage of the pump-out treatment, a second stage was adopted. The model results showed that the peak concentration of NH3-N pollutants discharged into the stream is less than 0.5 mg/L. Abstract: Main goal of the JUNO experiment is to determine the neutrino mass ordering using a 20 kt liquid-scintillator detector. Its key feature is an excellent energy resolution of at least 3% at 1 MeV, for which its instruments need to meet a certain quality and thus have to be fully characterized. More than 20,000 20-inch PMTs have been received and assessed by JUNO after a detailed testing program which began in 2017 and elapsed for about four years. Based on this mass characterization and a set of specific requirements, a good quality of all accepted PMTs could be ascertained. This paper presents the performed testing procedure with the designed testing systems as well as the statistical characteristics of all 20-inch PMTs intended to be used in the JUNO experiment, covering more than fifteen performance parameters including the photocathode uniformity. This constitutes the largest sample of 20-inch PMTs ever produced and studied in detail to date, i.e. 15,000 of the newly developed 20-inch MCP-PMTs from Northern Night Vision Technology Co. Abstract: Since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the focus of the United Nations climate regime has shifted from forging consensus among national governments toward animating implementation activity across multiple levels. Based on a case study of the Global Climate Action Portal—an online database designed to document nonstate actor climate commitments and implementation efforts—we trace, conceptualize, and assess how the roles of data, data infrastructures, and actor constellations have changed as a result of this shift. We argue that in the pre-COP21 negotiation phase, the United Nations Climate Secretariat strategically used the database to orchestrate and leverage nonstate actor commitments to exert pressure on intergovernmental negotiations. By contrast, in the post-COP21 implementation phase, the Secretariat, in collaboration with climate data specialists, is seeking to develop the portal to track and animate implementation activity. Abstract: The 2015 Paris Agreement is often depicted as a turning point for global climate governance. Following years of diplomatic gridlock, it laid the foundations for a new global climate regime that invites states to partner with nonstate actors in the transition to the low-carbon society. This article critically examines the political rationalities that inform the pluralization of climate politics after Paris and the turn toward cooperative modes of governing. Drawing on an analysis of initiatives led by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change that were launched to engage nonstate actors in the evolving Paris regime, we identify a global governmentality that mobilizes nonstate actors as active and responsible partners in the quest for rapid and deep decarbonization. Abstract: The effective approaches to eliminate impacts of ethanol on the biodegradation of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) are concerned in the bioremediation of groundwater contaminated with ethanol-blended gasoline. In situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) is a common technique widely used for the remediation of contaminated groundwater. However, the selectivity of ISCO for BTEX and ethanol removal is poorly understood. Therefore, a batch experiment was performed with different aquifer materials, including calcareous soil, basalt soil, granite soil, dolomite, and sand. Gasoline was used to provide dissolved BTEX and ethanol reagent was used as additive to improve the quality of gasoline and to reduce the possibility of air pollution caused by gasoline. Persulfate (PS) was used as a chemical oxidant to oxidize organic contaminants. The target concentrations of BTEX and ethanol were 20 mg/L and 1000 mg/L, respectively. The results showed that ethanol could be preferentially degraded in the absence of PS and inhibit BTEX biodegradation. However, BTEX could be preferentially removed prior to ethanol in all aquifer materials used at ambient temperature, when PS was added at a PS/BTEX molar ratio of 150. Over 94% BTEX in sand, dolomite, and granite soil was preferentially removed with the first-order decay rate constants of 0.890–2.703 day−1 within the first ~ 10 days, followed by calcareous and basalt soil at the constants of 0.123–0.371 day−1. Ethanol could compete with BTEX for sulfate radical at the first-order decay rate constants of 0.005–0.060 day−1 for the first 25 days, which was slower than that of BTEX. The pH quickly decreased to < 2.5 in dolomite, sand, and granite soil, but maintained > 6.2 in calcareous soil. Rich organic matter in calcareous and basalt soil had an inhibition effect on BTEX oxidation by PS. The pH buffer in calcareous soil may imply the potential of PS oxidation combined with bioremediation in carbonate rock regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: A series of chiral cyclometalated iridium complexes of the type [Ir(C^N)2(C^C:)], {(C^N) = ppy (2); dfppy (3)} featuring a naphthalimide N-heterocyclic carbene ligand (C^C:) = (Naphthalimide-NHC) are described and fully characterized. The racemic complexes rac-2 and rac-3 were resolved via chiral column chromatography techniques into their corresponding enantiopure species Δ-2, Λ-2, Δ-3, Λ-3 as confirmed by their CD curves. This unique class of molecules containing organic and inorganic chromophores might be used as a platform to probe the stereochemical effect on the photophysical properties. Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) was used as an important tool to assign successfully the stereochemistry of the enantiomers. Abstract: Refining ladle is generally the last inclusion‐removal vessel before the continuous casting of steel, so, it has a vital effect on the final steel quality. In this work, degradation process of a cement‐free Al2O3‐MgAl2O4 refractory in contact with molten steel/slag in the metal bath area of a Ruhrstahl Heraeus (RH) refining ladle was investigated. A reaction product layer with the formation of ferrospinel (hercynite) and Fe‐rich phases was observed, suggesting that the interactions/reactions between the refractory lining and the molten steel should also be considered to have a better understanding of overall degradation mechanism of the refractory served under the RH refining conditions. The two types of alumina grains in the refractory, sintered and fused alumina, were attacked in an active way and a passive way, respectively. The effect of the crack generation and steel infiltration on degradation of the refractory was also discussed in detail, based on the microstructural characterizations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: The OSIRIS detector is a subsystem of the liquid scintillator filling chain of the JUNO reactor neutrino experiment. Its purpose is to validate the radiopurity of the scintillator to assure that all components of the JUNO scintillator system work to specifications and only neutrino-grade scintillator is filled into the JUNO Central Detector. The aspired sensitivity level of 10 - 16 g/g of 238 U and 232 Th requires a large ( ∼ 20 m 3 ) detection volume and ultralow background levels. The present paper reports on the design and major components of the OSIRIS detector, the detector simulation as well as the measuring strategies foreseen and the sensitivity levels to U/Th that can be reached in this setup. Abstract: Atmospheric neutrinos are one of the most relevant natural neutrino sources that can be exploited to infer properties about cosmic rays and neutrino oscillations. The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) experiment, a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector with excellent energy resolution is currently under construction in China. JUNO will be able to detect several atmospheric neutrinos per day given the large volume. A study on the JUNO detection and reconstruction capabilities of atmospheric ν e and ν μ fluxes is presented in this paper. In this study, a sample of atmospheric neutrino Monte Carlo events has been generated, starting from theoretical models, and then processed by the detector simulation. The excellent timing resolution of the 3" PMT light detection system of JUNO detector and the much higher light yield for scintillation over Cherenkov allow to measure the time structure of the scintillation light with very high precision. Since ν e and ν μ interactions produce a slightly different light pattern, the different time evolution of light allows to discriminate the flavor of primary neutrinos. A probabilistic unfolding method has been used, in order to infer the primary neutrino energy spectrum from the detector experimental observables. The simulated spectrum has been reconstructed between 100 MeV and 10 GeV, showing a great potential of the detector in the atmospheric low energy region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
