Hyperactivation of PI3K/AKT/mTOR and MAPK/MEK/ERK signaling pathways is commonly observed in many cancers, including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and melanoma. Moreover, the compensatory upregulation of the MAPK/MEK/ERK pathway has been associated with therapeutic resistance to targeted inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway, and vice versa. The immune-modulatory effects of both PI3K and MAPK inhibition suggest that inhibition of these pathways might enhance response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). ICIs have become the standard-of-care for metastatic melanoma and are recently an option for TNBC when combined with chemotherapy, but alternative options are needed when resistance develops. In this review, we present the current mechanistic understandings, along with preclinical and clinical evidence, that outline the efficacy and safety profile of combinatorial or sequential treatments with PI3K inhibitors, MAPK inhibitors, and ICIs for treatment of malignant melanoma and metastatic TNBC. This approach may present a potential strategy to overcome resistance in patients who are a candidate for ICI therapy with tumors harboring either or both of these pathway-associated mutations. Objectives: Inhibition of the PI3K/mTOR pathway suppresses breast cancer (BC) growth, enhances anti-tumor immune responses, and works synergistically with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). The objective here was to identify a subclass of PI3K inhibitors that, when combined with paclitaxel, is effective in enhancing response to ICI. Methods: C57BL/6 mice were orthotopically implanted with syngeneic luminal/triple-negative-like PyMT cells exhibiting high endogenous PI3K activity. Tumor growth in response to treatment with anti-PD-1 + anti-CTLA-4 (ICI), paclitaxel (PTX), and either the PI3Kα-specific inhibitor alpelisib, the pan-PI3K inhibitor copanlisib, or the broad spectrum PI3K/mTOR inhibitor gedatolisib was evaluated in reference to monotherapy or combinations of these therapies. Effects of these therapeutics on intratumoral immune populations were determined by multicolor FACS. Results: Treatment with alpelisib + PTX inhibited PyMT tumor growth and increased tumor-infiltrating granulocytes but did not significantly affect the number of tumor-infiltrating CD8+ T cells and did not synergize with ICI. Copanlisib + PTX + ICI significantly inhibited PyMT growth and increased activation of intratumoral CD8+ T cells as compared to ICI alone, yet did not inhibit tumor growth more than ICI alone. In contrast, gedatolisib + ICI resulted in significantly greater inhibition of tumor growth compared to ICI alone and induced durable dendritic-cell, CD8+ T-cell, and NK-cell responses. Adding PTX to this regimen yielded complete regression in 60% of tumors. Conclusion: PI3K/mTOR inhibition plus PTX heightens response to ICI and may provide a viable therapeutic approach for treatment of metastatic BC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new approach of fabricating temperature-responsive high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) was established, based on controlling the hydrogen bonding in the system. These hydrogen bonds form between octenyl succinic anhydride modified starch (OSA-starch) and tannic acid (TA), as well as between the complexes of the two. The influence of system composition, pH, ionic strength, and temperature on the electrical, microstructural, and rheological properties of the HIPEs was determined. The HIPEs formed relatively firm gels at ambient temperature, but became considerably softer when heated above about 50 °C, which was attributed to weakening of the hydrogen bonds between the OSA-starch/TA complexes. The gels became firm again when cooled, which showed that they exhibited thermo-reversible rheological behavior. Encapsulation of β-carotene in HIPEs improved its chemical stability under UV-light exposure under all pH conditions. The edible HIPEs created in this study may therefore be useful where thermo-responsive gel-like systems are required. Background: Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths across the world. Early detection of lung cancer by low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) can reduce the mortality rate. However, making a definitive preoperative diagnosis of malignant pulmonary nodules (PNs) found by LDCT is a clinical challenge. This study aimed to develop a prediction model based on DNA methylation biomarkers and radiological characteristics for identifying malignant pulmonary nodules from benign PNs.Methods: We assessed three DNA methylation biomarkers (PTGER4, RASSF1A, and SHOX2) and clinically-relevant variables in a training cohort of 110 individuals with PNs. Four machine-learning-based prediction models were established and compared, including the K-nearest neighbors (KNN), random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), and logistic regression (LR) algorithms. Variables of the best-performing algorithm (LR) were selected through stepwise use of Akaike's information criterion (AIC). The constructed prediction model was compared with the methylation biomarkers and the Mayo Clinic model using the non-parametric approach of DeLong et al. with the area under a receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC) analysis.Results: A prediction model was finally constructed based on three DNA methylation biomarkers and one radiological characteristic for identifying malignant from benign PNs. The developed prediction model achieved an AUC value of 0.951 in malignant PNs diagnosis, significantly higher than the three DNA methylation biomarkers (0.912, 95% CI:0.843-0.958, p = 0.013) or Mayo Clinic model (0.823, 95% CI:0.739-0.890, p = 0.001). Validation of the prediction model in the testing cohort of 100 subjects with PNs confirmed the diagnostic value.Conclusion: We have shown that integrating DNA methylation biomarkers and radiological characteristics could more accurately identify lung cancer in subjects with CT-found PNs. InSAR (Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar) is widely recognized as a crucial remote sensing tool for monitoring various geological disasters because it provides all-day and all-weather monitoring. Nevertheless, the current interpretation methods for InSAR heavily depend on the interpreter's experience, which hinders efficiency and fails to meet the requirements for the timely detection of geologic hazards. Furthermore, the results obtained through current InSAR processing carry inherent noise interference, further complicating the interpretation process. To address those issues, this paper proposes an approach that enables automatic and rapid identification of deformation zones. The proposed method leverages IPTA (Interferometric Point Target Analysis) technology for SAR data processing. It combines the power of HNSW (Hierarchical Navigable Small Word) and DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) algorithms to cluster deformation results. Compared with traditional methods, the computational efficiency of the proposed method is improved by 11.26 times, and spatial noise is suppressed. Additionally, the clustering results are fused with slope units determined using DEM (Digital Elevation Model), which facilitates the automatic identification of slopes experiencing deformation. The experimental verification in the western mountainous area of Beijing has identified 716 hidden danger areas, and this method is superior to the traditional technology in speed and automation. All yellow Camellia plants in China are threatened, but their classification is contentious. Here, we performed a phylogenetic reconstruction based on nuclear double‐digest restriction site‐associated DNA sequencing (ddRAD), transcriptomes, nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS), and the small single‐copy region of the chloroplast genome, in combination with morphological evidence to help resolve taxonomic ambiguity of those rare and threatened species. Conflicting relationships were derived from nuclear and chloroplast sequences. The strong hybridization/introgression signal detected suggests reticulate evolution mainly caused this discordance pattern. The nuclear‐ddRAD and RNA‐seq phylogenies fit better to the yellow camellias' morphology, providing a clear resolution for inferring their relationships in China. Based on present phylogenetic analyses and morphological characters, we propose these taxonomic suggestions: (i) Camellia petelotii and Camellia nitidissima are distinct species; (ii) Camellia ptilosperma, Camellia longruiensis, Camellia longgangensis, and C. longgangensis var. grandis are conspecific with Camellia flavida; (iii) Camellia multipetala and C. longgangensis var. patens are synonyms of Camellia quinqueloculosa, and C. quinqueloculosa should be recognized as an independent species; (iv) Camellia wumingensis should be formally recognized as an independent species; (v) Camellia longzhouensis is a synonym of Camellia chrysanthoides; (vi) Camellia xiashiensis and Camellia parvipetala should be treated as synonyms of Camellia micrantha; (vii) Camellia achrysantha is a good species; (viii) Camellia tunghinensis is an independent species; (ix) species status of Camellia huana is well‐supported; and (x) Camellia pingguoensis var. terminals should be correctly identified to species level as Camellia terminalis. To clarify the path of the temporal branch of facial nerve (TB) crossing the zygomatic arch (ZA). Eighteen fresh adult heads specimens were carefully dissected in the zygomatic region, with the location of TB as well as its number documented. The hierarchical relationship between the temporal branch and the soft tissue in this region was observed on 64 P45 plastinated slices. 1. TB crosses the ZA as type I (21.8 %), type II (50.0 %,), and type III (28.1 %) twigs. 2. At the level of the superior edge of the ZA, the average distance between the anterior trunk of TB and the anterior part of the auricle is 36.36±6.56 mm, for the posterior trunk is 25.59±5.29 mm. At the level of the inferior edge of the ZA, the average distance between the anterior trunk of TB and the anterior part of the auricle is 25.77±6.19 mm, for the posterior trunk is 19.16±4.71 mm. 3. The average length of ZA is 62.06±5.36 mm. TB crosses the inferior edge of the ZA at an average of 14.67±6.45 mm. TB crosses the superior edge of the ZA at an average of 9.08±4.54 mm. 4. At the level of the ZA, TB passes on the surface of the pericranium while below the SMAS. The TB obliquely crosses the middle 1/3 part of the superior margin of the ZA and the junction of the middle 1/3 part and the posterior 1/3 part of the inferior margin of the ZA below the SMAS while beyond the periosteum. • Murayaquinones B-E (1 – 4) were isolated from an insect derived actinobacterium. • Structures of new compounds were elucidated by analysis their spectroscopic data. • Murayaquinone D exhibited cytotoxic activities against six cancer cell lines. Chemical study of the insect-derived bacterium, Streptomyces sp. NA4286, led to the discovery of four new polyketides, murayaquinones B-E (1 – 4), together with a known compound, murayaquinone (5). The structures of new compounds (1 – 4) were determined by extensive analysis of their NMR and HRESIMS data. The absolute configuration of (+)- 1 and (−)- 1 was assigned through comparison of experimental and calculated ECD spectra. Choosing an appropriate wake loss model (WLM) is a critical task in predicting power production of a wind farm and performing a wind farm layout optimization. Due to their efficient computational performance, analytical WLMs, also called kinematic models, are the most likely candidates for such applications. This paper examines the performance of six well-known analytical WLMs, i.e., Jensen, Larsen, Frandsen, Bastankah and Porté-Agel (BPA), Xie and Archer (XA), and Geometric Model (GM), by comparing their absolute error, bias, correlation coefficient, and ability to predict power production within one standard deviation of the mean observed values at three major commercial wind farms: Lillgrund (offshore, in Sweden), Anholt (offshore, in Denmark) and Nørrekær (inland, in Denmark). The three wind farms are chosen to cover many aspects of wind farms, such as offshore and inland conditions, regular and irregular layouts, and closely- to widely-spaced turbines. The conclusions of this review and the recommendations that are put forward provide practical guidelines for using analytical WLMs effectively in future wind energy applications. Overall, the Jensen and XA models stand out for their consistently strong performance and for rarely (Jensen) or never (XA) ranking last for all wind directions at all farms and are therefore the recommended models in general. Th17 cells (producing IL-17) and Th9 cells (producing IL-9) exhibit functional plasticity, and their role in tumorigenicity is controversial. Th17/IL-17 and Th9/IL-9 exhibit critical, but often opposing, roles in tumor progression. In this issue of the JCI, Salazar et al. show that while IL-17 and IL-9 induced distinct but complementary molecular pathways, both cytokines also induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer cells and promoted metastatic spreading. The wintertime variations and distributions of sea surface temperature (SST) and thermal fronts associated with the spatial distribution of ichthyoplankton were investigated in the continental shelf waters of the southern East China Sea (ECS) by using 10 year (2005-2015) satellite SST images with an entropy-based edge detection method. The Mainland China Coastal Front and Kuroshio Front (KF) in winter (December to March) were examined with SST gradient magnitudes (GMs) of 0.20-0.40 and 0.30-0.45°C Km−1, respectively, along the 50 m and 100-200 m isobaths in the southern ECS. These two fronts coincided with isotherms of 14-16°C and 21-22°C, respectively. The Mainland China Coastal Front pattern remained fairly stable along the 50 m isobaths, and the coexisting SST front and upwelling were shifted seaward or shoreward with the recession or intrusion of the KF during the winters. Notably, the SST GMs of the KF showed a significant strengthening that was higher than those of the past two decades. Moreover, the total abundance of the nearshore waters of the KF (which was occupied by approximately 75% neritic species) was 23 times higher than that of the offshore waters (which was occupied by approximately 63.60% oceanic species). We suggest that the generation of the KF in winter may act as the biological barrier of oceanic organisms and larval fishes in the study area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Summary: Habitual sleep duration and efficiency vary widely by age, gender, and racial/ethnic identity. Despite growing research on the importance of night‐to‐night, intraindividual variability (IIV) in sleep, few studies have examined demographic differences in sleep IIV. The present study describes typical sleep IIV overall and by demographics among healthy sleepers. Eight datasets of healthy sleepers (N = 2,404; 26,121 total days of sleep data) were synthesised to examine age, gender, and racial/ethnic identity differences in sleep IIV measured via diaries, actigraphy, and electroencephalography (EEG). Sleep IIV estimates included the intraindividual standard deviation (iSD), root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD), coefficient of variation (CV), and a validated Bayesian Variability Model (BVM). There was substantial IIV in sleep across measurement types (diary, actigraphy, EEG) for both sleep duration (iSD: 85.80 [diary], 77.41 [actigraphy], 67.04 [EEG] minutes; RMSSD: 118.91, 108.89, 91.93 minutes; CV: 19.19%, 19.11%, 18.57%; BVM: 60.60, 58.20, 48.60 minutes) and sleep efficiency (iSD: 5.18% [diary], 5.22% [actigraphy], 6.46% [EEG]; RMSSD: 7.01%, 7.08%, 8.44%; CV: 5.80%, 6.27%, 8.14%; BVM: 3.40%, 3.58%, 4.16%). Younger adults had more diary and actigraphy sleep duration IIV. Gender differences were inconsistent. White and non‐Hispanic/Latinx adults had less IIV in sleep duration and efficiency compared to racial/ethnic minority groups. Even among healthy sleepers, sleep varies widely from night‐to‐night. Like mean sleep, there also may be disparities in IIV in sleep by demographic characteristics. Study results help characterise normative values of sleep IIV in healthy sleepers. This paper presents a novel interleaved converter (NIC) with extra-high voltage gain to process the power of low-voltage renewable-energy generators such as photovoltaic (PV) panel, wind turbine, and fuel cells. The NIC can boost a low input voltage to a much higher voltage level to inject renewable energy to DC bus for grid applications. Since the NIC has two circuit branches in parallel at frond end to share input current, it is suitable for high power applications. In addition, the NIC is controlled in an interleaving pattern, which has the advantages that the NIC has lower input current ripple, and the frequency of the ripple is twice the switching frequency. Two coupled inductors and two switched capacitors are incorporated to achieve a much higher voltage gain than conventional high step-up converters. The proposed NIC has intrinsic features such as leakage energy totally recycling and low voltage stress on power semiconductor. The Xishan coal mine area in Beijing, China has a long history of mining. Many landslide hazards, in addition to collapses and ground fractures, have occurred in this area. This study used multi-temporal satellite images to extract this region's deformation information, identify landslides and analyze the deformation evolution process of these landslides. Taking the Anzigou ditch as an example, we investigate the "Quarry–Landslide–Mudslide" disaster chain model. We found that the landslide evolution process is closely related to the geological conditions, and usually goes through four stages: initial deformation, slope front swelling and collapsing, rear part connecting and rupturing, and landslide creeping. The surface deformation can be identified and tracked by high-resolution optical images and InSAR monitoring. Under the combined effects of rainfall and topographic conditions, medium and large landslides may occur and trigger a "Quarry–Landslide–Mudflow" disaster chain. The identification and analysis of these landslide hazards and the disaster chain help with geological disaster prevention, and provide reference for early identification and research of similar disasters. • The back-arc and arc-type magmatisms (ca. 838–748 Ma) were newly identified in the Rutong and Shiquanhe region, west of Tibet. • The North Lhasa terrane may separat from the Indian continent, finally constituted the northern segment of the East African Orogen during the Neoproterozoic. • The BNSZ retains geological records of the evolution of the Mozambique Ocean in the Neoproterozoic. Due to limited exposure of the Precambrian rocks in the Tibetan Plateau, their affinities and evolutions are inadequately studied. Here we report the newly identified Neoproterozoic metabasites (including metagabbros and metadolerites) at the western end of the Bangong-Nujiang suture zone (BNSZ) and the west part of the North Lhasa terrane. The Rutong Dong (RTD) metagabbros and Shiquanhe Nan (SQN) metadolerites yield zircon U-Pb ages of 838 Ma and 748 Ma, respectively. The RTD metagabbros are tholeiitic and exhibit both MORB- and arc-like geochemical characteristics, and we consider these to have formed in a back-arc basin setting. Combined with positive zircon ε Hf (t) (+6.3 to +13.8) and whole-rock ε Nd (t) (+4.4 to +5.3) values, the geochemical features of the RTD metagabbros indicate that they originated from a depleted mantle source enriched by subduction-related components (e.g., Th and U). The SQN metadolerites are mainly of transitional character (between tholeiitic and calc-alkaline), as well as representing typical calc-alkaline basalts. Their arc-like geochemical characteristics, as well as low positive whole-rock ε Nd (t) (+1.7 to +3.4), and positive zircon ε Hf (t) (+4.3 to +5.9) values, indicate generation by partial melting of an enriched subduction components modified mantle in an arc-type setting. Based on previous research, we propose that the North Lhasa terrane likely separated from India at ca. 925–860 Ma by the opening of the Mozambique Ocean. As the subduction zones were active at ca. 838–730 Ma in this ocean, a series of subduction-related magmatic events occurred, that is recorded in this study of the Rutong-Shiquanhe region, and other parts of the BNSZ and North Lhasa terrane. Consequently, we suggest that the BNSZ not only preserves information of the Meso-Tethys but also retains geological records of the Neoproterozoic Mozambique Ocean. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A comparative study of the morphology of suboccipital cavernous sinus (SCS) using MRI and cast specimens was performed. The present retrospective study analysed the craniocervical magnetic resonance venography (MRV) imaging data of 61 patients. Three-dimensional reconstruction was performed using Mimics 19.0. The SCS left-right diameter(d1), distance from the midline (d2), supero-inferior diameter(d3), anteroposterior diameter (d4), distance from posterior diameter to skin (d5), and diameter of the SCS at different parts (d6-d8) were measured. Comparison between MRV images and cast specimens, the SCS, marginal sinus, anterior condylar vein, and vertebral artery venous plexus were symmetrical and could be bilaterally displayed, whereas the presence of extra condylar vein and posterior condylar vein exhibited different types. The adjacency between the SCS and its communicating vessels and changes in its communicating vessels corresponded well with the MRV images and cast specimens. Many types of the presence of left and right lateral condylar and posterior condylar veins were found in the cast specimens, which could be divided into the bilateral presence of posterior condylar and lateral condylar veins, unilateral presence of posterior condylar veins, and unilateral presence of lateral condylar vein. A total of 61 cases analysed using MRV images revealed the bilateral presence of posterior condylar and lateral condylar veins (77.1 %), the unilateral presence of posterior condylar vein (18.0 %), and the unilateral presence of lateral condylar vein (9.8 %), of which the bilateral presence of posterior condylar and lateral condylar veins accounted for the largest proportion. MRV images and cast specimens of the SCS showed its normal morphological structure and adjacency, thus providing accurate and complete Three-dimensional imaging anatomical data of the SCS and its communicating vascular structures. Niobium-doped titania (TNO) film can be used as a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) film due to its excellent conductivity and visible transparency. The performances of TNO sputtering targets are thus critical issues in optimizing sputtered films. This study clarifies the influences of inert and reducing atmospheres on the microstructure, densification, crystal structure, and electrical properties of TNO sputtering targets. The results indicate that a sintering atmosphere of 90% Ar–10% H 2 can result in a lower sintered density, larger grain size, and lower resistivity than can an atmosphere of Ar, followed by one of air. Sintering in 90% Ar–10% H 2 or Ar obviously decreases the resistivity of TiO 2 , from >10 8 Ω cm to <10 −1 Ω cm, and the TNO target, from >10 1 Ω cm to <10 −1 Ω cm. The resistivity of TNO target sintered at 1200 °C in 90% Ar–10% H 2 is as low as 1.8×10 −2 Ω cm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reward has been known to render the reward-associated stimulus more salient to block effective attentional orienting in space. However, whether and how reward influences goal-directed attention in time remains unclear. Here, we used a modified attentional cueing paradigm to explore the effect of reward on temporal attention, in which the valid targets were given a low monetary reward and invalid targets were given a high monetary reward. The results showed that the temporal cue validity effect was significantly smaller when the competitive reward structure was employed (Experiment 1), and we ruled out the possibility that the results were due to the practice effect (Experiment 2a) or a reward-promoting effect (Experiment 2b). When further strengthening the intensity of the reward from 1:10 to 1:100 (Experiment 3), we found a similar pattern of results to those in Experiment 1. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous and challenging-to-treat breast cancer subtype. The clinical introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) for TNBC has had mixed results, and very few patients achieved a durable response. The PI3K/AKT pathway is frequently mutated in breast cancer. Given the important roles of the PI3K pathway in immune and tumor cell signaling, there is an interest in using inhibitors of this pathway to increase the response to ICI. This study sought to determine if AKT inhibition could enhance the response to ICI in murine TNBC models. We further sought to understand underlying mechanisms of response or non-response to AKT inhibition in combination with ICI. Using four murine TNBC-like cell lines and corresponding orthotopic mouse tumor models, we found that hyperactivity of the PI3K pathway, as evidenced by levels of phospho-AKT rather than PI3K pathway mutational status, was associated with response to AKT inhibition alone and in combination with ICI. Additional mutations in other growth regulatory pathways could override the response of PI3K pathway mutant tumors to AKT inhibition. Furthermore, we observed that AKT inhibition enhanced the response to ICI in an already sensitive model. However, AKT inhibition failed to convert ICI-resistant tumors, to responsive tumors. These findings suggest that analysis of both the mutational status and phospho-AKT protein levels may be beneficial in predicting which TNBC tumors will respond to AKT inhibition in combination with ICI. • Heterogeneous responses to AKTi + PTX + ICI in four TNBC orthotopic mouse tumor models. • Direct cytotoxicity of AKTi in the responder model associated with changes in phospho-protein targets in vitro and in vivo. • Phospho-AKT levels, but not PI3K/AKT mutation status, associated with response to AKTi and AKTi + PTX + ICI. • MAPK pathway mutations contribute to resistance to AKTi and AKTi + ICI. Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. Although low-dose spiral computed tomography (LDCT) screening is used for the detection of lung cancer in a high-risk population, false-positive results of LDCT remain a clinical problem. Here, we developed a blood test of a novel panel of three established lung cancer methylation biomarkers for lung cancer detection. Short stature homeobox 2 gene (SHOX2), ras association domain family 1A gene (RASSF1A), and prostaglandin E receptor 4 gene (PTGER4) methylation was analyzed in a training cohort of 351 individuals (197 controls, 154 cases) and validated from an independent cohort of 149 subjects (89 controls, 60 cases). The novel panel biomarkers distinguished between malignant and benign lung disease at high sensitivity and specificity: 87.0% sensitivity [95% CI 80.2–91.5%], 98.0% specificity [95% CI 94.9–99.4%]. Sensitivity in adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, small cell lung cancer, and other lung cancer was 89.0%, 87.5%, 85.7%, and 77.8%, respectively. Notably, cancer patients in stage I and II showed high diagnostic sensitivity at 82.5% and 90.5%, respectively. Moreover, the diagnostic efficiency did not show bias toward age, gender, smoking, and the presence of other (nonlung) cancers. The performance of the panel in the validation cohort confirmed the diagnostic value. These findings clearly showed that this panel of DNA methylation biomarkers was effective in detecting lung cancer noninvasively and may provide clinical utility in stand-alone or in combination with current imaging techniques to improve the diagnosis of lung cancer. We report narrowband imaging of the 1-0 S(1) ro-vibrational transition of molecular hydrogen (H2) from NGC 1275, the central cD galaxy of the Perseus Cluster. We find that the H2 gas has a spatial morphology identical to the optical emission-line nebula associated with this galaxy, a total luminosity in H2 1-0 S(1) only an order of magnitude less than in Hα, and if the line-emitting gas is thermalized a mass (at ~2000 K) that is over two orders of magnitude smaller than that of the optical emission-line nebula (at ~ 10,000 K). The ratio in H2 1-0 S(1) to Hα + [N II] line intensities spans a characteristic range of ~0.02-0.08 throughout the nebula; the brighter inner nebula exhibits patches with (nearly) constant line ratios unrelated to individual filaments. Recent models proposed to explain the peculiar nebular spectrum from the optical to infrared invoke thermalized along with non-thermalized injection of energy from ionizing particles. The energy density of highly relativistic electrons inferred to cause inverse-Compton scattering of hard X-ray emission from the core of the Perseus Cluster decreases steeply beyond a central radius of ~20 kpc, yet we do not find any changes in the average or range spanned by the H2 1-0 S(1) to Hα + [N II] line ratio between the inner (≲20 kpc) and outer (~20-50 kpc) nebulae. On the other hand, saturated conduction from the surrounding X-ray gas produces, in the absence of magnetic fields, a heat flux that is approximately constant throughout the nebula: the change in the line ratio with position would then reflect the ability of the X-ray gas to penetrate presumably magnetically threaded filaments at different locations. Abstract: The electroless deposition of boron-containing Ni (EN-B) film from a supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-CO2) bath was introduced. The deposition rate in sc-CO2 bath was one order of magnitude lower than that at ambient pressure without the presence of sc-CO2. A more uniform chemical composition of the EN-B film could be obtained if it was deposited in the sc-CO2 bath. X-ray diffraction analyses revealed that the as-deposited film was amorphous in nature, despite of the deposition condition. Deposition defects such as cracks and voids could be avoided if the deposition was conducted in the sc-CO2 bath. Crystallization and boride precipitation were found after heat treatment at 400°C for 1h. The EN-B film deposited from the sc-CO2 bath had a higher hardness as compared with that of the normal EN-B coating. A substantial increase in hardness was obtained due to boride precipitation. Safrole oxide (SAFO), a metabolite of naturally occurring hepatocarcinogen safrole, is implicated in causing DNA adduct formation. Our previous study first detected the most abundant SAFO-induced DNA adduct, N7-(3-benzo[1,3] dioxol-5-yl-2-hydroxypropyl)guanine (N7γ-SAFO-G), in mouse urine using a well-developed isotope-dilution high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ID-HPLC-ESI-MS/MS) method. This study further elucidated the genotoxic mode of action of SAFO in mice treated with SAFO 30, 60, 90, or 120 mg/kg for 28 days. The ID-HPLC-ESI-MS/MS method detected N7γ-SAFO-G with excellent sensitivity and specificity in mouse liver and urine of SAFO-treated mice. Our data provide the first direct evidence of SAFO-DNA adduct formation in rodent tissues. N7γ-SAFO-G levels in liver were significantly increased by SAFO 120 mg/kg compared with SAFO 30 mg/kg, suggesting rapid spontaneous or enzymatic depurination of N7γ-SAFO-G in tissue DNA. Urinary N7γ-SAFO-G exhibited a sublinear dose response. Moreover, the micronucleated peripheral reticulocyte frequencies increased dose-dependently and significantly correlated with N7γ-SAFO-G levels in liver (r = 0.8647; p < 0.0001) and urine (r = 0.846; p < 0.0001). Our study suggests that safrole-mediated genotoxicity may be caused partly by its metabolic activation to SAFO and that urinary N7γ-SAFO-G may serve as a chemically-specific cancer risk biomarker for safrole exposure. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an invasive subtype of breast cancer but paradoxically associated with increased tumor-infiltrating leukocytes. The molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying TNBC immunobiology are incompletely understood. Interleukin (IL)-17A is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that has both pro- and anti-tumor effects and found in 40–80% of TNBC samples. We report here that IL-17A mRNA and protein are detectable in some human TNBC cell lines and further upregulated by IL-23 and LPS stimulation. Furthermore, the impact of tumor-derived IL-17A in host immune response and tumor growth was examined using murine TNBC 4T1 mammary carcinoma cells transduced with an adenoviral vector expressing IL-17A (AdIL-17A) or control vector (Addl). Compared to Addl-transduction, AdIL-17A-transduction enhanced 4T1 tumor growth and lung metastasis in vivo, which was associated with a marked expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs). However, AdIL-17A-transduction also induced strong organ-specific and time-dependent immune activation indicated by dynamic changes of NK cells, B cells, CD4, and CD8 T cells in peripheral blood, lung, and tumor site, as well as the plasma levels of IFNγ. Such findings highlight that tumor-associated IL-17A induces concurrent immune activation and immune suppression. Administration of anti-Gr1 or anti-G-CSF antibody effectively depleted MDSCs in vivo, markedly reducing the growth of AdIL-17A-transduced 4T1 tumors, and eliminating lung metastasis. As a key building block to power flexible electronics, there is need for the development of flexible current collectors. Bombyx mori silk, a traditional textile, attracts increasing attention for its potential application in flexible electronics and is a promising raw material for flexible carbon electrodes in current collector fabrication. In this work, molybdenum dioxide nanoparticles (MoO 2 NPs), which possess chemical stability and high mass specific capacitance, was used as a feed additive and combined with mulberry leaves to raise silkworms. It was found that the MoO 2 NPs were embedded within the silk fibers, which endowed the resulting silk with favorable features for electrochemical energy storage in flexible electronics. After carbonization, the specific capacitance of electrodes prepared with silk from the MoO 2 NPs feeding group, with a mass/volume ratio of 5 g/L, was enhanced from 100 F/g to 245 F/g at a current density of 0.2 A/g. Impressively, the electrodes show high coulombic efficiency with excellent stability. This work demonstrates the possibility of producing carbonized silk with superior properties for developing silk-based flexible electrodes for use in energy storage devices in a large-scale, green, low-cost way. The primary elimination channel of bromine molecule in one-photon dissociation of CH2BrC(O)Br at 248 nm is investigated using cavity ring-down absorption spectroscopy. By means of spectral simulation, the ratio of nascent vibrational population in v = 0, 1, and 2 levels is evaluated to be 1:(0.5 ± 0.1):(0.2 ± 0.1), corresponding to a Boltzmann vibrational temperature of 581 ± 45 K. The quantum yield of the ground state Br2 elimination reaction is determined to be 0.24 ± 0.08. With the aid of ab initio potential energy calculations, the obtained Br2 fragments are anticipated to dissociate on the electronic ground state, yielding vibrationally hot Br2 products. The temperature-dependence measurements support the proposed pathway via internal conversion. For comparison, the Br2 yields are obtained analogously from CH3CHBrC(O)Br and (CH3)2CBrC(O)Br to be 0.03 and 0.06, respectively. The trend of Br2 yields among the three compounds is consistent with the branching ratio evaluation by Rice-Ramsperger-Kassel-Marcus method. However, the latter result for each molecule is smaller by an order of magnitude than the yield findings. A non-statistical pathway so-called roaming process might be an alternative to the Br2 production, and its contribution might account for the underestimate of the branching ratio calculations. The myodural bridge (MDB) is confirmed that connecting the most of suboccipital muscles to the cervical dura mater through the posterior intervertebral spaces and widely exists in mammals and birds. In order to reveal whether the MDB is universally existing in amniota of vertebrates, we explored the existence and the morphological features of the MDB in the Trachemys scripta elegans. Twenty fresh red-eared slider specimens were observed by the gross anatomy dissection and histological analysis. In the results, three kind of muscles in the postoccipital region of the red-eared slider were found. The rectus capitis dorsum minor muscle originated from the posterior margin of the occiput (C0) and terminated at the spinous process of the atlas (C1). The transversospinales muscle was attached to the vertebral arch and the postzygapophysis of the atlas and extended to the spinous process of the axis (C2). The C2-C3 intertransversales muscle were extended from the postzygapophysis of C2 and the one of C3. The three muscles covered the dorsal interspaces among C0-C3, and meantime they were closely connected with dense connective tissues, which filled in these interspaces. Each of these thick dense connective tissue membranes sent off several short and strong fibrous bundles ventrally to merge with the cervical spinal dura mater. Furthermore the connective tissues connecting these muscles with cervical spinal dura mater directly were revealed under the microscopy and they consisted of parallel and intensive collagen fibers with orientation from dorsal to ventral. In conclusion, this study for the first time demonstrated the existence of the MDB in the testudines, in all of the dorsal atlantooccipital, atlantoaxial and C2-C3 intervertebral spaces. Based on our results and comparative anatomical evidences in recent year, it could be inferred that the MDB might be its highly conserved structure in the evolution of amniota. Malignant gliomas remain incurable with a poor prognosis despite of aggressive treatment. We have been studying the development of brain tumors in a glioma rat model, where rats develop brain tumors after prenatal exposure to ethylnitrosourea (ENU), and there is a sizable interval between when the first pathological changes are noted and tumors become detectable with MRI. Our aim to define a molecular timeline through proteomic profiling of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) such that brain tumor commitment can be revealed earlier than at the presymptomatic stage. A comparative proteomic approach was applied to profile CSF collected serially either before, at and after the time MRI becomes positive. Elastic net (EN) based models were developed to infer the timeline of normal or tumor development respectively, mirroring a chronology of precisely timed, "clocked", adaptations. These CSF changes were later quantified by longitudinal entropy analyses of the EN predictive metric. False discovery rates (FDR) were computed to control the expected proportion of the EN models that are due to multiple hypothesis testing. Our ENU rat brain tumor dating EN model indicated that protein content in CSF is programmed even before tumor MRI detection. The findings of the precisely timed CSF tumor microenvironment changes at presymptomatic stages, deviation from the normal development timeline, may provide the groundwork for the understanding of adaptation of the brain environment in tumorigenesis to devise effective brain tumor management strategies. The timing of the opening of the Yarlung Zangbo Neo–Tethyan Ocean (YZNTO) is debated. In this contribution, geochemical and geochronological analyses of diabase, pillow basalt and layered basalt from the Upper Triassic Yumen tectonic mélange (T 3 Y) of the eastern Tethyan Himalaya in South Tibet are used to elucidate the timing and the magmatic evolution preceding the development of the YZNTO. Zircon U-Pb geochronology indicates that the Yumen mafic rocks crystallized in the Late Triassic (diabase, c. 225 Ma). These rocks display alkaline basalt affinities and have variable enrichment in Ba, U, Pb, Sr and Ti and depletion in Rb, Th and Nb. The diabase and pillow basalt samples have compositions transitional between enriched mid–ocean ridge basalt and ocean island basalt (OIB); layered basalt is more compatible with an OIB affinity. Whole–rock ε Nd (t) ratios of the mafic rocks range from +5.5 to +11.5 and zircons from a diabase have ε Hf (t) values varying from –1.1 to +10.0. Whole–rock trace element concentrations indicate that the parental magmas of the Yumen mafic rocks were derived from the mantle at variable depths extending from the garnet to spinel stability fields. The Yumen mafic rocks originated from partial melting of a heterogeneous magma source composed of dominant depleted asthenospheric magmas and the addition of some components of an ancient and enriched lithospheric mantle; negligible crustal contamination occurred. Combined with previous studies, we conclude that the Yumen mafic rocks were probably produced in an intercontinental rift setting with extremely thin continental lithosphere in the early Late Triassic prior to the opening of the eastern YZNTO. The YZNTO progressively opened along the northern edge of the Indian plate from west to east in the Phanerozoic. The deep suboccipital muscles has been shown to connect the spinal dura mater via dense connective tissue termed the myodural bridge (MDB). The MDB has both physiological and clinical implications. Data on morphological and imaging anatomical parameters of the deep suboccipital muscles are scare. In this study, T2-weighted images of rectus capitis posterior major (RCPma) and obliqus capitis inferior (OCI) of 109 healthy adults were obtained by 0-degree sagittal and 30-degree oblique sagittal continuous MRI scanning of the head and neck of the subjects. Sectional area parameters of the RCPma and the OCI were measured. The 0-degree sagittal section was measured with 5 mm bias from the median sagittal plane, the sectional area of the RCPma was 186.34± 55.02 mm2 on the left, and 202.35± 59.76 mm2 on the right. The sectional area of OCI was 221.72± 68.99 mm2 on the left, and 224.92± 61.34 mm2 on the right; At the section with 30-degree bias from the oblique sagittal plane, the sectional area of RCPma was 183.30± 42.24 mm2 in males, and 133.05± 26.44 mm2 in females. The sectional area of OCI was 254.81± 46.20 mm2 in males, and 167.42± 27.85 mm2 in females. Significant sex difference exists in the sectional areas of the RCPma and OCI, the values of the male subjects were predominantly larger (P < 0.05), however there were no age-related significant difference. The sectional area of RCPma is bilateral asymmetric, the RCPma on the right side is larger than that of the left side (P < 0.05), but the OCI is bilaterally symmetric (P >0.05). The MRI image features, imaging anatomical data and sexual dimorphism of the RCPma and the OCI are presented in this study. Objective We aimed to investigate the morphological changes and potential correlation between chronic headaches and the rectus capitis posterior minor muscle (RCPmi). Methods Comparison of RCPmi between patients with chronic headaches and healthy adult volunteers were collected using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Mimics software. Results Among the 235 MRI images analyzed, the data between the two groups were considered statistically significant. The number of males was larger than that of females ( p < 0.001) and the headache group showed greater hypertrophy than the control group in both males ( p < 0.001) and females ( p = 0.001). Conclusions Chronic headaches were correlated with the RCPmi. Patients with chronic headaches suffered from more obvious hypertrophy than that of the control group. The past findings confirm that the Rectus Capitis Posterior minor (RCPmi) is connected to the cervical spinal dura mater via the Myodural Bridge (MDB) through the posterior antlanto-occipital interspace. It is hypothesized to perform some functions. Furthermore, some clinical studies found that the pathology of RCPmi might be related to chronic headaches. But few studies were related to the morphological parameters of the RCPmi. It would be conducive to performing clinical researches on the RCPmi and MDB. To explore the optimal section for measuring the RCPmi by MRI and provide imaging anatomy parameters of the RCPmi for clinical research. The RCPmi was measured in the dissection of 10 formalin-fixed cadaver specimens. The morphological parameters of the RCPmi were obtained. Based on these parameters, T2-weighted images of the RCPmi were collected from 109 healthy adults by using the MRIs with different oblique sagittal scanning angles. The parameters of length and area of the RCPmi on the scanning sections were measured using MRI workstation and Mimics software. The length of RCPmi reached a maximum at 30 degrees scanning leaned from the posterior median line through the dens of the axis in oblique sagittal section. At this scanning section, the length of RCPmi was 21.2 ± 2.6 mm in males and 19.3 ± 2.4 mm in females and the area of RCPmi was 91.9 ± 27.2 mm2 in males and 73.3 ± 22 mm2 in females. These parameters of RCPmi were present with significant gender differences (P < 0.05) but was not age related. Thirty degrees leaned from the median line was suggested to be the optimum scanning angle to display the RCPmi in oblique sagittal section. • We report [3+2] cycloaddition reactions of alkyne with the ruthenium azido complex. • The stable triazolato and tetrazolato products obtained in all cases were N (2)-bound. • We report that during protonation of ruthenium azido complex, methylene insertion accidentally took place, to yield unusual boron-methylated product. • Their structures are elucidated by IR, NMR and X-ray crystallography. Herein, we report on the reactivity of an Ru(II) azido complex allowing the facile synthesis of further interesting complexes. The N (2)-bound 4,5-bis-(methoxycarbonyl)-1,2,3-triazolato complex (HN=CPh 2)[Ru]−{N 3 C 2 (CO 2 Me) 2 } (3) was obtained from reaction of 2 with dimethyl acetylene dicarboxylate (DMAD). Protonation of 3 with HCl afforded the N -coordinated triazolato complex {HN 3 C 2 (CO 2 Me) 2 }[Ru]−Cl (4). Reaction of CS 2 with 2 produced the thiocyanato complex (HN=CPh 2)[Ru]−NCS (5). The Ru tetrazolato complex (HN=CPh 2)[Ru]−N 4 C[C(CN)=C(CN) 2 ] (6) was prepared from 2 and tetracyanoethylene (TCNE). The reaction of 2 with HX gave the 17-electron Ru(III) complexes (Cl)[Ru]−X (7a , X = Cl ; 7b , X = Br) and the Ru(II) complexes containing the methyl tris(pyrazolyl)borate ligand MeTp(PPh 3)(HN=CPh 2)Ru−X (8a , X = Cl ; 8b , X = Br), as a result of an unusual methylene insertion into the B−H bond of the Tp ligand with the CH 2 Cl 2 solvent as the assumed source for the methylene. Objective: The myodural bridge (MDB) connects the suboccipital musculature to the spinal dura mater (SDM) as it passes through the posterior atlanto-occipital and the atlanto-axial interspaces. It has recently been proposed that head movement may assist in powering the movement of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) via muscular tension transmitted to the SDM via the MDB. Methods: The present study utilized dogs as the experimental model to explore the MDB's effects on the CSF pressure (CSFP) during stimulated contractions of the suboccipital muscles as well as during manipulated movements of the atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial joints. Additionally biomechanical tensile strength tests were conducted. Results: The tensile strength of the collagenous fibers passing through the dorsal atlanto-occipital and atlanto-axial interspaces were 0.16±0.04 MPa and 0.82±0.57 MPa, respectively. Passive head movement, including lateral flexion, rotation, as well as flexion--extension, all significantly increased CSFP. Furthermore, the CSFP was significantly raised from 12.41± 4.58 to 13.45±5.16 mm Hg when the obliquus capitis inferior (OCI) muscles of the examined specimens were electrically stimulated. Head movements appeared to be an important factor affecting CSF pressure, with the MDB of the suboccipital muscles playing a key role in this process. Conclusion: The present study provides direct evidence to support the hypothesis that the MDB may be a previously unappreciated significant power source (pump) for CSF circulation. We report Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array 8-10 GHz (λ = 3.0-3.7 cm) monitoring observations toward the young stellar object (YSO) cluster R Coronae Australis (R CrA), taken from 2012 March 15 to 2012 September 12. These observations were planned to measure the radio flux variabilities in timescales from 0.5 hr to several days, to tens of days, and up to ∼200 days. We found that among the YSOs detectable in individual epochs, in general, the most reddened objects in the Spitzer observations show the highest mean 3.5 cm Stokes I emission, and the lowest fractional variabilities on <200 day timescales. The brightest radio flux emitters in our observations are the two reddest sources IRS7W and IRS7E. In addition, by comparing our observations with observations taken from 1996 to 1998 and 2005, we found that the radio fluxes of these two sources have increased by a factor of ∼1.5. The mean 3.5 cm fluxes of the three Class I/II sources, IRSI, IRS2, and IRS6, appear to be correlated with their accretion rates derived by a previous near-infrared line survey. The weakly accreting Class I/II YSOs, or those in later evolutionary stages, present radio flux variability on <0.5 hr timescales. Some YSOs were detected only during occasional flaring events. Abstract: Acupuncture possesses the antidepressant potential. In this 6-week randomized controlled trial with 4-week follow-up, 160 patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) were randomly assigned to paroxetine (PRX) alone (n = 48) or combined with 18 sessions of manual acupuncture (MA, n = 54) or electrical acupuncture (EA, n = 58). Treatment outcomes were measured mainly using the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17), Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS), clinical response and remission rates. Average PRX dose taken and proportion of patients who required an increased PRX dose due to symptom aggravation were also obtained. Both additional MA and EA produced a significantly greater reduction from baseline in score on HAMD-17 and SDS at most measure points from week 1 through week 6 compared to PRX alone. The clinical response was markedly greater in MA (69.8%) and EA (69.6%) groups than the group treated with PRX alone (41.7%, P = 0.004). The proportion of patients who required an increase dose of PRX due to symptom aggravation was significantly lower with MA (5.7%) and EA (8.9%) than PRX alone (22.9%, P = 0.019). At 4 weeks follow-up after completion of acupuncture treatment, patients with EA, but not MA, continued to show significantly greater clinical improvement. Incidence of adverse events was not different in the three groups. Our study indicates that acupuncture can accelerate the clinical response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and prevent the aggravation of depression. α1,6-Fucosyltransferase (Fut8) knock-out (Fut8-/-) mice showed an abnormality in pre-B cell generation. Membrane assembly of pre-BCR is a crucial checkpoint for pre-B cell differentiation and proliferation in both humans and mice. The assembly of pre-BCR on the cell surface was substantially blocked in the Fut8-knockdown pre-B cell line, 70Z/3-KD cells, and then completely restored by re-introduction of the Fut8 gene to 70Z/3-KD (70Z/3-KD-re) cells. Moreover, loss of α1,6-fucosylation (also called core fucosylation) of μHC was associated with the suppression of the interaction between μHC and λ5. In contrast to Fut8-/- CD19+CD43- cells, the subpopulation expressing the μHCαλ5 complex in the Fut8-/- CD19+CD43- cell fraction was decreased. The pre-BCR-mediated tyrosine phosphorylation of CD79a and activation of Btk were attenuated in Fut8-KD cells, and restored in 70Z/3-KD-re cells. The frequency of CD19kw- CD43- cells (pre-B cell enriched fraction) was also reduced in Fut8+/+ bone marrow cells, and then the levels of IgM, IgG, and IgA of 12-week-old Fut8-/- mice sera were significantly lower than those of Fut8+/+ mice. An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to determine the effects of replacing of soybean meal (SBM) with sesame meal (SM) in the diets of Oreochromis niloticus fingerlings. Seven practical diets (33 g kg−1 crude protein, 19.2 MJ kg−1 dry diet) containing substitution levels of 0%, 8%, 16%, 24%, 32%, 40% and 48% SM for SBM protein were formulated and fed to triplicate groups of O. niloticus fingerlings (mean initial weight of 8.74 ± 0.12 g). The fish survival rate, hepatosomatic index, viscerosomatic index and condition factor were not significantly affected by the contents of SM in the diets ( P>0.05). The final body weight, weight gain (WG), specific growth ratio, feed conversion ratio and protein efficiency ratio of the fish fed the diet containing 16% SM were similar ( P>0.05) to that of the fish fed the control diet. Except lipid, digestible contents of dry matter, crude protein, ash, gross energy and individual amino acids decreased while phosphorous increased with increasing SM levels. No significant differences were observed in whole-body dry matter, ash and lipid contents among all the treatments ( P>0.05); crude protein contents between fish fed the control diet and a diet containing 24% SM were also not affected significantly ( P>0.05), and the phosphorus content was not significantly different when the SM level was increased to 32% ( P>0.05). No significant negative differences were observed in the liver composition between fish fed the control diet and the diet containing 24% SM. The most efficient diet in terms of cost per unit WG of fish was obtained in 8% SM dietary substitution, while no significant differences were found among the 0%, 8% and 16% levels. It was indicated that SM can be utilized in the juvenile Nile tilapia diet to replace about 16% of SBM protein without causing negative effects on growth performance, body composition, liver composition and feed utilization. It was found in our previous study that feeding silkworms with MoO 2 nanoparticles (NPs) as a food additive enabled the incorporation of MoO 2 NPs into the as-spun silk, which, in turn, can be used to build electrodes for energy storage. However, aggregation of the MoO 2 NPs was observed at high fractional feeding dosages. In order to disperse the MoO 2 NPs in fibrous silk and enhance the specific capacitance of the carbonized silk more effectively, a 0.5% (w/v) hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) solution was utilized as the dispersant in this work. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results confirmed that HPMC increased the separation of MoO 2 nanoparticles incorporated within the silk matrix. Furthermore, the electrochemical performance was characterized, revealing that the specific capacitance of carbonized silk from this HPMC-MoO 2 NP feeding group reached 456 F/g, compared to the value of 245 F/g from the previous study, at a current density of 0.2 A/g, demonstrating a significant improvement. The feasibility of utilizing HPMC to maintain the segregated state of MoO 2 NPs throughout all stages of silk encapsulation, with negligible impact of this feeding regimen on the growth of silkworms, is demonstrated in this work. Interstellar chemistry leads to the formation of many prebiologically important molecules and is therefore of the fundamental interest to Astrobiology. Many organics can be produced in the gas phase where they can be detected. Molecules formed by reactions on the surfaces of dust grains are also best detected by millimeter-wave observations of sources in which the products of grain-surface chemistry have been deposited into the gas phase. In this article, we present a summary of the status of several searches for potential prebiotic molecules – aziridine, 2H-azirine, pyrimidine and glycine – in the hot molecular cores Sgr B2(N-LMH), W51 e1/e2 and Orion KL. Detections of these organic molecules would strengthen the thesis that interstellar organic matter, delivered in cometary impacts, could have played an important role in the prebiotic chemistry of the early Earth. In this work, poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) molecules were grafted to silk fibroin (SF) molecules via a thiol–ene click reaction under 405 nm UV illumination for the fabrication of a PEGDA/SF composite hydrogel. The composite hydrogels could be prepared in a short and controllable gelation time without the use of a photoinitiator. Features relevant to the drug delivery of the PEGDA/SF hydrogels were assessed, and the hydrogels were characterized by various techniques. The results showed that the prepared PEGDA/SF hydrogels demonstrated a good sustained-release performance with limited swelling behavior. It was found that a prior cooling step can improve the compressive strength of the hydrogels effectively. Additionally, the MTT assay indicated the prepared PEGDA/SF hydrogel is non-cytotoxic. Subcutaneous implantation of the PEGDA/SF hydrogel in Kunming mice did not induce an obvious inflammation, which revealed that the prepared PEGDA/SF hydrogel possessed good biocompatibility. Antitumor cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) are essential for immune surveillance, yet the blockade of eliciting such CTLs during oncolytic virotherapy remains incompletely understood. Here, we show that oncolysis of mesothelioma by modified vaccinia Tiantan (MVTT) induces damage-associated molecular patterns exposure. Although MVTT leads to regression of established mesothelioma dose-dependently, antitumor CTLs are rarely induced. Mechanistically, MVTT virotherapy generates C-X-C chemokines that recruit CXCR2-expressing polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSCs) into tumor microenvironment, where they suppress dendritic cells (DCs) by producing IL-10 and halt CTL responses. During the virotherapy, however, depletion of PMN-MDSCs but not of monocytic (M)-MDSCs results in the induction of potent antitumor CTLs that not only eradicate established mesothelioma but also prevent the second tumor challenge. Our findings suggest that vaccinia virotherapy may combine strategies that prevent the chemotactic recruitment of PMN-MDSCs, block their suppression on DCs or deplete PMN-MDSCs in order to induce potent CTLs for tumor eradication. To provide continuous, accessible, and quality care, a diabetes share-care program has been in place in Taiwan for several years. Lukang Christian Hospital, a member of the diabetes share-care network, endeavors to provide “patient-centered” care aimed at increasing care quality and reducing diabetic complications. Information technology has been employed by the hospital for monitoring care quality and analyzing cost-effectiveness. Structured health-care programs have also been developed to ensure the completeness of diabetes care and to encourage self-management of individuals at high risk for diabetes. Using a sample of BzK-selected galaxies at z ∼ 2 identified from the CFHT/WIRCAM near-infrared survey of GOODS-North, we discuss the relation between star formation rate (SFR), specific star formation rate (SSFR), and stellar mass (M*), and the clustering of galaxies as a function of these parameters. For star-forming galaxies (sBzKs), the UV-based SFR, corrected for extinction, scales with the stellar mass as SFR∝Mα* with α = 0.74 ± 0.20 down to M* ∼ 109M☼, indicating a weak dependence on the stellar mass of the SFR efficiency, namely, SSFR. We also measure the angular correlation function and hence infer the correlation length for sBzK galaxies as a function of M*, SFR, and SSFR, as well as K-band apparent magnitude. We show that passive galaxies (pBzKs) are more strongly clustered than sBzK galaxies at a given stellar mass, mirroring the color-density relation seen at lower redshifts. We also find that the correlation length of sBzK galaxies ranges from 4 to 20 h–1 Mpc, being a strong function of MK, M*, and SFR. On the other hand, the clustering dependence on SSFR changes abruptly at 2 × 10–9 yr–1, which is the typical value for “main-sequence” star-forming galaxies at z ∼ 2. We show that the correlation length reaches a minimum at this characteristic value, and is larger for galaxies with both smaller and larger SSFRs; a dichotomy that is only marginally implied from the predictions of the semi-analytical models. Our results suggest that there are two types of environmental effects at work at z ∼ 2. Stronger clustering for relatively quiescent galaxies implies that the environment has started to play a role in quenching star formation. At the same time, stronger clustering for galaxies with elevated SSFRs (“starbursts”) might be attributed to an increased efficiency for galaxy interactions and mergers in dense environments.
