Psychostimulant use disorder and schizophrenia have a substantial genetic basis. Evidence from human and animal studies on the involvement of the?-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system in methamphetamine (METH) use disorder and schizophrenia is mounting. As we tested for the association of the human GABAA receptor gamma 2 subunit gene (GABRG2) with each diagnostic group, we used a case-control design with a set of 178 subjects with METH use disorder, 288 schizophrenics and 288 controls. First, we screened 96 controls and identified six SNPs in GABRG2, three of whom we newly reported. Next, we selected two SNPs, 315C>T and 1128+99C>A, as representatives of the linkage disequilibrium blocks for further case-control association analysis. Although no associations were found in either allelic or genotypic frequencies, we detected a haplotypic association in GABRG2 with METH use disorder, but not with schizophrenia. The case of a 25-year-old man who presented for evaluation of infertility is described. The physical examination revealed testicular atrophy without gynecomastia. Repeated seminal analyses showed azoospermia, and serum hormonal levels suggested a state of a hypergonadotropic hypogonadism. Chromosomal analysis demonstrated 46XX. Polymerase chain reaction revealed the existence of a sex-determining region Y. The etiology of this rare sex reversal syndrome is discussed and cases reported in Japan are reviewed. In an attempt to investigate the tumor type-specific ultrastructure of cultured brain tumors, collagen gel culture was utilized instead of the conventional monolayer culture. In order to avoid intermingling of the normal brain cells, tumors with a clear margin were chosen. The tumors were cultured first in the monolayer culture for a few passages, and then tumor cell pellets were prepared and embedded in the collagen gel. In the event that tumors failed to grow in the monolayer culture, small fragments of tumor tissue were embedded. Ultrastructurally, the tumor cell processes of central neurocytoma contained numerous dense-core vesicles. The formation of desmosomes was observed in the meningioma cell processes. The development of polypoid microvilli similar to those of the normal choroid plexus epithelium was observed in a case with ependymoma. A continuous basement membrane was seen surrounding the tumor cell processes facing the collagen gel in two ependymomas. These findings suggest the usefulness of the collagen gel culture in analyzing the tumor type-specific ultrastructure of cultured brain tumors and possibly in studying cellular differentiation. Pure elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections have been measured for the systems 58Ni +90,94Zr at energies near the Coulomb barrier where not only quasi-elastic and fusion but also deep-inelastic process come into play. Coupled channels calculations including both projectile and target inelastic excitations can successfully explain the elastic and inelastic scattering angular distributions with an energy-independent semi-empirical bare potential. Increased ventricular pacing thresholds have been observed following monophasic waveform shocks in implantable cardioverter defibrillators (icds). This study aimed to examine such changes following high-energy biphasic shocks in icds.Method Ten episodes of VF were induced every 10 minutes in 10 pigs (23.1±3.0 kg). After 10 seconds of VF a 40J biphasic shock (total 10 shocks) was delivered for successful defibrillation in the true-bipolar sensing lead system of the ICD. Ventricular bipolar pacing thresholds before and after these shocks were evaluated at one-minute intervals. Results The mean pacing threshold before shock delivered was 0.066 ± 0.059 uj. Those of the first, second and third minutes after the first shock were 0.052 ± 0.061 uj, 0.044 ± 0.039 uj, respectively; showing that pacing thresholds gradually decreased. Background/objectives: In this study, we aimed to determine the risk factors for colorectal adenoma/cancer by studying patients who underwent comprehensive health checkups and were referred to a hospital because of positive fecal occult blood., Methods: A total of 529 patients were referred to hospital for a positive fecal occult blood test after a comprehensive health checkup at the participating center over a period of 5 years, from January 2018 to December 2022. Patients diagnosed with colorectal adenoma or cancer using colonoscopy were included in the case group, while those diagnosed with no abnormality, diverticulum, or hemorrhoids were included in the control group., Results: Of the 529 referred patients, 503 underwent colonoscopy. A total of 18 colorectal cancers and 191 colorectal adenomas were detected, and there were no tumors, diverticula, or hemorrhoids in any of the 208 patients. Polyps, either hyperplastic or of unknown pathology, were found in 86 patients. A comparison of the case and control groups showed that gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) was an independent and significant risk factor for colorectal adenoma or cancer, in addition to previously known risk factors such as male sex, older age, high body mass index, and alcohol consumption., Conclusions: For patients with a positive fecal occult blood test, in addition to traditional risks such as obesity, older age, male sex, and alcohol consumption, identifying those with high GGT levels is recommended to help find colorectal adenoma/cancer.

A 77-year-old man presented with right inguinal lymphadenopathy and swollen parotid and submandibular glands bilaterally. Histopathology revealed germinal center B-cell type diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in the inguinal lymph node. Lymphocyte and plasma cell infiltration in the submandibular gland with elevated serum IgG4 levels (13 g/L) prompted a diagnosis of IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD). Systemic chemotherapy for DLBCL led to shrinkage of the lymph nodes and disappearance of the submandibular gland swelling, as confirmed by fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography. Although concomitant IgG4-RD and lymphoma have been reported, their simultaneous diagnosis is rare; therefore, a biopsy of all involved organs is crucial in cases with unusual organ involvement.

A 45-year-old woman was hospitalized with severe coronavirus disease 2019 pneumonia. Following cytokine storm-induced multiorgan failure and lethal arrhythmia, the patient developed a sustained coma with flaccid quadriplegia. A cerebrospinal fluid examination excluded infectious and immunogenic encephalopathies, and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated high-intensity areas in the white matter with a cortex-sparing distribution, suggesting delayed post-hypoxic leukoencephalopathy. As a result of intensive cardiopulmonary support for a month, the neurological function gradually recovered. Based on the reversible clinical course noted in this patient, accurate diagnosis and persistent medical approaches are important for the management of coronavirus disease 2019-related delayed post-hypoxic leukoencephalopathy.

[Purpose] Older patients with cardiovascular disease should increase their physical activity and prioritize positive psychological and social approaches in the maintenance phase of their cardiac rehabilitation. This study aimed to clarify the effect of small community walking on physical activity, well-being, and social capital in older patients with cardiovascular disease in the maintenance phase. [Participants and Methods] We conducted a multicenter study in Kumamoto, Japan. We randomly divided 55 patients with cardiovascular disease into two groups: small community walking and walking alone. For three months, a registered cardiac rehabilitation instructor provided walking guidance to both groups using a wearable device. We measured physical activity, social capital, and subjective happiness before and after the intervention. [Results] Results revealed a statistically significant main effect of time on physical activity and social participation. In the subjective happiness scale, there was an association between group and time. [Conclusion] Our results suggest that walking guidance using a wearable device was beneficial in improving overall physical activity, regardless of whether the individual did small community walking or walking alone. Furthermore, small community walking intervention may effectively enhance well-being. Comprehensive health checkups in Japan are a preventive method to detect cancer and metabolic diseases. Unlike group medical examinations, individual examinations in health checkups are possible, with additional tests possible for disease detection. However, it is difficult to accurately ascertain the results from only the report after referral to a medical institution in individuals suspected of having cancer who need to be examined. We aimed to conduct a medical record survey of patients referred to the Hospital after undergoing a comprehensive health checkup and investigate the contribution of comprehensive health checkups to the detection of cancer more accurately. The subjects were 1763 examinees who were referred to various departments of our hospital because of doubtful cancer from 23,128 examinees who underwent comprehensive health checkups in our center from January 2018 to December 2022 for 5 years. The medical record survey demonstrated that cancer was detected in more than twice as many individuals as reported and other sources. Early-stage cancers require a significantly longer time to establish a definitive diagnosis. In conclusion, short-term reports from the referring hospital are insufficient for a final diagnosis, and long-term follow-up is extremely important to increase the diagnosis rates of cancer for comprehensive health checkups.

Background: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is an essential lifesaving treatment for end-stage renal disease. However, PD therapy is limited by peritoneal inflammation, which leads to peritoneal membrane failure because of progressive peritoneal deterioration. Peritonitis is the most common complication in patients undergoing PD. Thus, elucidating the mechanism of chronic peritoneal inflammation after PD-associated peritonitis is an urgent issue for patients undergoing PD. This first case report suggests that an increased interleukin-1β (IL-1β) expression in the peritoneal dialysate after healing of peritonitis can contribute to peritoneal deterioration., Case Presentation: A 64-year-old woman was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus 10 years ago and had been started on PD for end-stage renal disease. One day, the patient developed PD-associated acute peritonitis and was admitted to our hospital for treatment. Thus, treatment with antimicrobial agents was initiated for PD-associated peritonitis. Dialysate turbidity gradually disappeared after treatment with antimicrobial agents, and the number of cells in the PD fluid decreased. After 2 weeks of antimicrobial therapy, peritonitis was clinically cured, and the patient was discharged. Thereafter, the patient did not develop peritonitis; however, residual renal function tended to decline, and peritoneal function also decreased in a relatively short period. We evaluated pro-inflammatory cytokine levels before and after PD-associated peritonitis; interestingly, the levels of IL-1β remained high in the PD fluid, even after remission of bacterial peritonitis. In addition, it correlated with decreased peritoneal function., Conclusions: This case suggests that inflammasome-derived pro-inflammatory cytokines may contribute to chronic inflammation-induced peritoneal deterioration after PD-related peritonitis is cured., (© 2023. Objectives: Brain-computer interface (BCI)-controlled functional electrical stimulation (FES) has been used in rehabilitation for improving hand motor function. However, mechanisms of improvements are still not well understood. The objective of this study was to investigate how BCI-controlled FES affects hand muscle corticospinal excitability., Materials and Methods: A total of 12 healthy young adults were recruited in the study. During BCI calibration, a single electroencephalography channel from the motor cortex and a frequency band were chosen to detect event-related desynchronization (ERD) of cortical oscillatory activity during kinesthetic wrist motor imagery (MI). The MI-based BCI system was used to detect active states on the basis of ERD activity in real time and produce contralateral wrist extension movements through FES of the extensor carpi radialis (ECR) muscle. As a control condition, FES was used to generate wrist extension at random intervals. The two interventions were performed on separate days and lasted 25 minutes. Motor evoked potentials (MEPs) in ECR (intervention target) and flexor carpi radialis (FCR) muscles were elicited through single-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex to compare corticospinal excitability before (pre), immediately after (post0), and 30 minutes after (post30) the interventions., Results: After the BCI-FES intervention, ECR muscle MEPs were significantly facilitated at post0 and post30 time points compared with before the intervention (pre), whereas there were no changes in the FCR muscle corticospinal excitability. Conversely, after the random FES intervention, both ECR and FCR muscle MEPs were unaffected compared with before the intervention (pre)., Conclusions: Our results demonstrated evidence that BCI-FES intervention could elicit muscle-specific short-term corticospinal excitability facilitation of the intervention targeted (ECR) muscle only, whereas randomly applied FES was ineffective in eliciting any changes. Hip fractures are fragility fractures frequently seen in persons over 80-years-old. Although various factors, including decreased bone mineral density and a history of falls, are reported as hip fracture risks, few large-scale studies have confirmed their relevance to individuals older than 80, and tools to assess contributions of various risks to fracture development and the degree of risk are lacking. We recruited 1395 fresh hip fracture patients and 1075 controls without hip fractures and comprehensively evaluated various reported risk factors and their association with hip fracture development. We initially constructed a predictive model using Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), a machine learning algorithm, incorporating all 40 variables and evaluated the model's performance using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), yielding a value of 0.87. We also employed SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) values to evaluate each feature importance and ranked the top 20. We then used a stepwise selection method to determine key factors sequentially until the AUC reached a plateau nearly equal to that of all variables and identified the top 10 sufficient to evaluate hip fracture risk. For each, we determined the cutoff value for hip fracture occurrence and calculated scores of each variable based on the respective feature importance. Individual scores were: serum 25(OH)D levels (<10 ng/ml, score 7), femoral neck T-score (<-3, score 5), Barthel index score (<100, score 3), maximal handgrip strength (<18 kg, score 3), GLFS-25 score (≥24, score 2), number of falls in previous 12 months (≥3, score 2), serum IGF-1 levels (<50 ng/ml, score 2), cups of tea/day (≥5, score -2), use of anti-osteoporosis drugs (yes, score -2), and BMI (<18.5 kg/m 2 , score 1). Using these scores, we performed receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and the resultant optimal cutoff value was 7, with a specificity of 0.78, sensitivity of 0.75, and AUC of 0.85. Objective . Brain-computer interface (BCI)-controlled functional electrical stimulation (FES) could excite the central nervous system to enhance upper limb motor recovery. Our current study assessed the effectiveness of motor and prefrontal cortical activity-based BCI-FES to help elucidate the underlying neuromodulation mechanisms of this neurorehabilitation approach. Approach . The primary motor cortex (M1) and prefrontal cortex (PFC) BCI-FES interventions were performed for 25 min on separate days with twelve non-disabled participants. During the interventions, a single electrode from the contralateral M1 or PFC was used to detect event-related desynchronization (ERD) in the calibrated frequency range. If the BCI system detected ERD within 15 s of motor imagery, FES activated wrist extensor muscles. Otherwise, if the BCI system did not detect ERD within 15 s, a subsequent trial was initiated without FES. To evaluate neuromodulation effects, corticospinal excitability was assessed using single-pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation, and cortical excitability was assessed by motor imagery ERD and resting-state functional connectivity before, immediately, 30 min, and 60 min after each intervention. Main results . M1 and PFC BCI-FES interventions had similar success rates of approximately 80%, while the M1 intervention was faster in detecting ERD activity. Consequently, only the M1 intervention effectively elicited corticospinal excitability changes for at least 60 min around the targeted cortical area in the M1, suggesting a degree of spatial localization. However, cortical excitability measures did not indicate changes after either M1 or PFC BCI-FES. Significance . Neural mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of BCI-FES neuromodulation may be attributed to the M1 direct corticospinal projections and/or the closer timing between ERD detection and FES, which likely enhanced Hebbian-like plasticity by synchronizing cortical activation detected by the BCI system with the sensory nerve activation and movement related reafference elicited by FES., (© 2023 IOP Publishing Ltd.)

Background: Owing to the linguistic situation, Japanese natural language processing (NLP) requires morphological analyses for word segmentation using dictionary techniques., Objective: We aimed to clarify whether it can be substituted with an open-end discovery-based NLP (OD-NLP), which does not use any dictionary techniques., Methods: Clinical texts at the first medical visit were collected for comparison of OD-NLP with word dictionary-based-NLP (WD-NLP). Topics were generated in each document using a topic model, which later corresponded to the respective diseases determined in International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10 revision. The prediction accuracy and expressivity of each disease were examined in equivalent number of entities/words after filtration with either term frequency and inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) or dominance value (DMV)., Results: In documents from 10,520 observed patients, 169,913 entities and 44,758 words were segmented using OD-NLP and WD-NLP, simultaneously. Without filtering, accuracy and recall levels were low, and there was no difference in the harmonic mean of the F-measure between NLPs. However, physicians reported OD-NLP contained more meaningful words than WD-NLP. When datasets were created in an equivalent number of entities/words with TF-IDF, F-measure in OD-NLP was higher than WD-NLP at lower thresholds. When the threshold increased, the number of datasets created decreased, resulting in increased values of F-measure, although the differences disappeared. Two datasets near the maximum threshold showing differences in F-measure were examined whether their topics were associated with diseases. The results showed that more diseases were found in OD-NLP at lower thresholds, indicating that the topics described characteristics of diseases. The superiority remained as much as that of TF-IDF when filtration was changed to DMV., Conclusion: The current findings prefer the use of OD-NLP to express characteristics of diseases from Japanese clinical texts and may help in the construction of document summaries and retrieval in clinical settings., Competing Interests: None declared., (The Author(s). Background: Evaluating patients' risk for acute kidney injury (AKI) is crucial for positive outcomes following cardiac surgery. Our aims were first to select candidate risk factors from pre- or intra-operative real-world parameters collected from routine medical care and then evaluate potential associations between those parameters and risk of onset of post-operative cardiac surgery-associated AKI (CSA-AKI)., Method: We conducted two cohort studies in Japan. The first was a single-center prospective cohort study (n = 145) to assess potential association between 115 clinical parameters collected from routine medical care and CSA-AKI (≥ Stage1) risk in the population of patients undergoing cardiac surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). To select candidate risk factors, we employed random forest analysis and applied survival analyses to evaluate association strength. In a second retrospective cohort study, we targeted patients undergoing cardiac surgery with CPB (n = 619) and evaluated potential positive associations between CSA-AKI incidence and risk factors suggested by the first cohort study., Results: Variable selection analysis revealed that parameters in clinical categories such as circulating inflammatory cells, CPB-related parameters, ventilation, or aging were potential CSA-AKI risk factors. Survival analyses revealed that increased counts of pre-operative circulating monocytes and neutrophils were associated with CSA-AKI incidence. Finally, in the second cohort study, we found that increased pre-operative circulating monocyte counts were associated with increased CSA-AKI incidence., Conclusions: Circulating monocyte counts in the pre-operative state are associated with increased risk of CSA-AKI development. Scope: The purpose of this study is to compare the impact of four low-viscosity soluble dietary fibers (DFs) on the intestinal microenvironment, in terms of microbiota composition, short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, proportion of colonic peripherally induced regulatory T cells (pTregs), and experimental colitis in mice., Methods and Results: Mice are administered 5% w/v low-viscosity soluble DFs in drinking water for 2 weeks. The gut microbiota composition is determined using 16S rRNA sequencing. Luminal SCFAs are quantified by gas chromatography, and colonic pTregs are analyzed using flow cytometry. All low-viscosity soluble DFs promote the growth of beneficial bacteria such as Akkermansia muciniphila and Bacteroides acidifaciens, while eliminating pathogenic bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens. Moreover, two low-viscosity soluble DFs significantly increase the abundance of commensal bacteria and promote the accumulation of propionate and butyrate, leading to marked induction of colonic pTregs. Consistently, these two fibers, in particular α-cyclodextrin, show remarkable anti-inflammatory properties in a colitis mouse model., Conclusion: Mice administered any low-viscosity soluble DF show comparable gut microbiota compositions, but differ in terms of bacterial abundance, SCFA concentration, pTreg population, and colitis development. Objective: To describe the operation of an outpatient rehabilitation practice at a Japanese hospital severely affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic., Design: Analytical observational study., Setting: Outpatient rehabilitation department in Saitama, Japan., Participants: Number (N=953) of outpatients from January 2019 to July 2021., Interventions: Not applicable., Main Outcome Measures: This paper begins with a review of the infection control measures that were initiated after declaration of a state of emergency in April 2020. The effects of the pandemic were then examined by comparing the daily average number of outpatients from January 2020 to July 2021 with that noted for the same duration during 2019., Results: In April 2020, the average daily number of patients decreased by 77.1% compared with the number in 2019 and was further decreased by 65.7% and 63.7% in May and June 2020, respectively. The time limitations on rehabilitation were lifted in June, and the number of patients increased by 82.3% in July 2020. Thereafter, it remained at approximately 80% throughout the rest of the year compared with that noted in 2019. From January 2021 to July 2021, the number of patients approached the number noted during normal practice or was even higher., Conclusions: The implementation of infection control measures, adjustments to procedures, and widespread vaccination permitted the continuation of our outpatient practice., (© 2022 The Authors.)

Coffin-Siris syndrome (CSS) is a congenital disorder that is characterized by an absent/hypoplastic fifth distal phalanx, psychomotor developmental delay, and coarse facial features. One of the causative genes, ARID1B (AT-rich interactive domain-containing protein 1B), encodes components of the BAF chromatin remodeling complexes. Here, we report a case of a 3-year 8-month-old male with a novel nonsense variant (NM&#95;001374820.1:c.4282C > T, p.(Gln1428*)) in the ARID1B gene, which was identified with whole-exome sequencing. He showed clinical symptoms of cleft soft palate, distinctive facial features (flat nasal bridge, thick eyebrows, and long eyelashes), right cryptorchidism, and hypertrichosis that partially overlapped with CSS. One of the most characteristic features of CSS is absent/hypoplastic fifth distal phalanx. He showed no obvious clinical finding in the lengths of his fingers or in the formation of his fingernails. However, radiographic analyses of the metacarpophalangeal bones revealed shortening of all the distal phalanges and fifth middle phalanges, suggesting brachydactyly. We performed mRNA analyses and revealed that both nonsense-mediated decay and nonsense-associated altered splicing were simultaneously caused by the c.4282C > T nonsense variant. The proband's clinical manifestations fit the previously reported criteria of disease for CSS or intellectual disability with ARID1B variant. The Clinical Trial Act came into force in 2018 in Japan. A questionnaire survey was conducted with personnel at Kumamoto University Hospital engaged in research and development, to explore their perceptions of troubles and concerns about clinical research related to the Clinical Trial Act. We collected 127 comments about troubles and 149 about concerns. Text mining (co-occurrence network and hierarchical cluster analysis) was used to extract the characteristics or tendencies in these comments. The analysis extracted 18 key terms for troubles and 21 for concerns. Most troubles and concerns had to do with concrete examples of clinical research or protocols and biostatistics information. Our results emphasized the importance of clinical research support organizations, and suggested that appropriate workshops and information covering specific situations are necessary to perform clinical research under the new regime.

Background: Training non-specialist workers in mental healthcare improves knowledge, attitude, confidence, and recognition of mental illnesses. However, still little information is available on which type of mental health training is important in the improvement of these capacities., Methods: We studied web-based survey data of 495 public health workers to examine training types associated with knowledge and experience in supporting individuals with mental illness. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the association between a lack of knowledge and experience (outcome) and mental health training (exposure). We fitted three regression models. Model 1 evaluated unadjusted associations. Model 2 adjusted for age and sex. Model 3 adjusted for age, sex, years of experience, mental health full-time worker status, and community population. Bias-corrected and accelerated bootstrap confidence intervals (CIs) were used., Results: For all training types, the association between a lack of knowledge and experience and mental health training attenuated as the model developed. In Model 3, a lack of knowledge and experience was significantly associated with training in specific illness (OR, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.32-0.93) and screening and assessment (OR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.39-0.99). Non-significant results were produced for training in counseling, psychosocial support, collaborative work, and law and regulation in Model 3., Conclusions: We believe that the present study provides meaningful information that training in specific illness and screening and assessment may lead to knowledge and experience of public health workers. Abstract: Although the relationship between cardiovascular diseases and malignant diseases has recently attracted attention, the associations of cardiovascular risk factors and clinical outcomes in cancer patients remain to be elucidated. We performed a retrospective, observational study that explored the clinical outcomes of patients with cancer or with a history of cancer.We enrolled 30,706 consecutive adult cancer patients from Kumamoto University Hospital. We investigated mortality and morbidity, including cardiovascular conditions (dyslipidemia [DL]/diabetes mellitus [DM]/hypertension [HT]). The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality.Of the enrolled patients, 9032 patients (29.4%) died within the follow-up period. The Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that in the groups classified according to the number of DL/DM/HT (LDH) factors, the LDH1 and LDH2 groups had a significantly higher probability of the primary endpoint than the LDH0 group (P < .001 and P < .001, respectively), whereas there were no significant differences between the LDH0 group and LDH3 group (P = .963). Univariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses of mortality complemented by the multiple imputation method including various factors demonstrated that the presence of DL in cancer patients was a significant negative predictor of mortality (hazard ratio = 0.79, P < .01).The all-cause mortality rate did not always increase as the number of LDH factors increased. Falling is a representative incident in hospitalization and can cause serious complications. In this study, we constructed an algorithm that nurses can use to easily recognize essential fall risk factors and appropriately perform an assessment. A total of 56,911 inpatients (non-fall, 56,673; fall; 238) hospitalized between October 2017 and September 2018 were used for the training dataset. Correlation coefficients, multivariable logistic regression analysis, and decision tree analysis were performed using 36 fall risk factors identified from inpatients. An algorithm was generated combining nine essential fall risk factors (delirium, fall history, use of a walking aid, stagger, impaired judgment/comprehension, muscle weakness of the lower limbs, night urination, use of sleeping drug, and presence of infusion route/tube). Moreover, fall risk level was conveniently classified into four groups (extra-high, high, moderate, and low) according to the priority of fall risk. Finally, we confirmed the reliability of the algorithm using a validation dataset that comprised 57,929 inpatients (non-fall, 57,695; fall, 234) hospitalized between October 2018 and September 2019. Using the newly created algorithm, clinical staff including nurses may be able to appropriately evaluate fall risk level and provide preventive interventions for individual inpatients., (© 2021.
