Abstract

SnO2/In2O3 one-dimensional nano-core-shell structures have been synthesized at 1350 degrees C by thermal evaporation of the mixture of metal Sn, Fe(NO3)(3) powders and In particles. The as-synthesized products have been characterized by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, selected-area electron diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. Microstructure characterization indicates the orientation relationship between core and shell is [001]In2O3 parallel to [100]SnO2, (010)In2O3 parallel to (010)SnO2. The formation mechanism of this nano-core-shell structure can be attributed to the cover of In2O3 on the surface of SnO2 nanochains. The photoluminescence properties of the nano-core-shell structures have been measured. The PL spectrurn shows some difference with the result from pure SnO2 and In2O3 nanostructure that be deemed to relate to interface defects in SnO2/In2O3 nano-core-shell structure. Abstract

Surface and planar defect structures of γ-Al2O3 nanorods synthesized by the arc-discharge method were studied by means of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and image simulation. Our investigation showed that there was a high number density of twins in the nanorods. We suggested a possible configuration of {111} twins in γ-Al2O3, and this model fit our experimental result well. In some nanorods, the ordering of nanotwins gave rise to a local hexagonal-like structure. The twinned nanorods were usually enclosed by {100} and {111} facets, and their growth direction was changed from 〈110〉 into 〈111〉. The surface structures of the nanorods confirmed that the {111}-type surface should be more stable.

Abstract

The linear absorption, multi-photon absorption and subsequently induced optical limiting from Six Stilbazolium derivatives with different donor units were studied with a mode-locked/Q-switched Nd:YAG pulses with a duration of 35 ps and a repetition of 10 Hz at 1064 nm. The measured molecular 3PA and 2PA cross-sections (sigma(3)/sigma(2)) were in the order of 10(-76) cm(6) s(2) and 10(-47) 10(-46) cm(4) s/photon, respectively. It was observed that the 63 values increase linearly with increasing the electron-donating ability of the donor units, from N-methylpyrrole, to pyrrole, to furan, and to thiophene. Abstract

The optical power limiting performances for eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines with initial linear transmission T-0 = 88-92% at 532 nm in a 0.5 cm spectroscopic cell in toluene have been measured with 35 ps pulses, in which eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanine free-base exhibits the strongest optical limiting ability through a reverse saturable absorption from S-1 --> S-n excited singlet states with sigma(S1) = 4.0 x 10(-17) cm(2). The optical limiting thresholds are 50, 130 and 140 mJ/cm(2) at T/T-0 = 0.5 for eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanine free base, nickel phthalocyanine, and lead phthalocyanine respectively. The throughput of eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanine free base is clamped down to 70 mJ/cm(2) with the limiting nonlinear transmittance T-lim, = 0.18 as the incident fluence reaching to 400 mJ/cm(2). The aggregation behaviors for eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines have been studied, in which the aggregation equilibrium constant k = 5.6 x 10(3) in toluene for eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanine free base is larger than in mixed solvent containing acetonitrile (k' = 1.4 x 10(3)). This means that the eight-beta-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines aggregate more easily in nonpolar solvent than in polar solvent through the pi-pi interaction. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

One-dimensional SnO2 nanobelts have been prepared in large scale via rapid oxidation of elemental tin at the temperature range from 1080 to 1250 degreesC. Transmission electron microscopic studies show that the as-synthesized SnO2 nanobelts appear to be single crystals but some of which are found to have steps at the surface of the nanobelts. Atomic imaging stretching over the belt width gives the trace that the growth might be associated with a layer-by-layer mode. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Abstract

Three-photon absorption (3PA) of two stilbazolium-like dyes containing conjugated triple bridge (abbreviated as APAI and PPAI) has been determined by using a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser pumped with 35 ps pulses at 1064 nm in DMSO. Nonlinear absorption coefficients alpha(3) derived from 3PA fitting curves are 4.3 and 3.2 x 10(-21) cm(3)/W-2, respectively. Large optical power limiting induced by 3PA has also been demonstrated for both dyes. When the maximum incident irradiance reaches to 400 GW/cm(2), the limiting nonlinear transmissions T-lim can reach to 13 and 17% with maximum transmitted radiances of 17 and 44 GW/cm(2), respectively. Abstract

Thin cobalt films with highly ordered Co nanodot arrays have been fabricated by evaporating Co directly onto the surface of a porous anodic alumina template (PAA). The Co nanodots have diameters and heights about 80–110, 30–50 nm, respectively, arranged in a close-placed hexagonal pattern. Magnetic measurements reveal that thin Co films with nanodot arrays exhibit uniaxial magnetic anisotropy with the easy magnetization direction parallel to the surface of thin Co film, and the in-plane remanence ratio is up to 0.82, approximately twice as large as that out-of-plane. Coercivity and remanent magnetization of the films with Co dot arrays are much larger than those of unpatterned films.

Abstract

Monodispersed multi-walled carbon nanotubes were prepared in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method by using monodispersed nanoparticles of Fe3O4 (1 nm) as the precursor of catalyst particles. High-resolution electron microscopy (HREM) revealed that over 50% of these carbon nanotubes synthesized at 600 degreesC and 180 Torr were quadruple walled nanotubes with mean outer diameter of 5.6 nm. At the same time, in the close tips of these carbon nanotubes, no catalyst particles were detected by HRTEM, which means that the catalyst particles were too small to be detected by HRTEM, even though they exit in the tips of carbon nanotubes in our experiments. Three-photon absorption (3PA) and subsequently induced optical limiting behavior of several stilbazolium derivatives were investigated by using a mode-locked/Q-switched Nd:YAG pulse with a duration of 35 ps and a repetition of 10 Hz at 1064 nm. The measured molecular 3PA cross-sections are in the order 10 −78 –10 −76 cm 6 s 2 at the intensity levels of 0–55 GW / cm 2 . It is observed that the 3PA cross-section as well as the optical limiting effect can be enhanced by increasing strength of electron-acceptor units of stilbazolium derivatives.

Abstract

The third- and fifth-order optical nonlinearities from the titled molecule were investigated using Z-scan technique. The titled molecule exhibits two-photon absorption (2PA) and 2PA-generated excited-state absorption (ESA). A very interesting feature is that the titled molecule shows a high fifth-order nonlinearity, being about one-order of magnitude larger than the reported organic molecules. Due to this strong ESA, a highly efficient optical limiting effect was observed.

Abstract

In this Letter, we report that after oxidation in air and reduction in hydrogen the existing carbon nanotube arrays can be used as a substrate to grow another nanotube array. The two arrays are connected through a thin catalyst layer. Micro-Raman study of these two nanotube arrays shows that they have different characteristic spectra. Besides the small shift in the peak frequencies of the two kinds of arrays in Micro-Raman spectra, we have observed changes in the relative intensities of D, G and D ′ lines and proposed the mechanism of this phenomenon.

Abstract

We have grown vertically aligned amorphous silicon nanowires on Au–Pd co-deposition silicon oxide substrate by thermal chemical vapor deposition using SiH4 gas at 800°C. The diameter of silicon nanowires is in the range 10–50 nm and the length is about 1 μm. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations show that the grown silicon nanowires are of an amorphous state and some of nanowires appear to bifurcate in the vertically growth process. The effect of H2 gas etchings on the catalytic size and the effect of catalytic size on the formation of the vertical growth nanowires are discussed.

Abstract

We report a new method to synthesize very straight silicon nanowires using a porous iron/SiO2 gel as a template by thermal chemical vapor deposition at a temperature of about 500 degreesC. Scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Raman scattering spectroscopy were used to characterize the samples. The results show that a large amount of straight Si nanowires with diameters of about 30 nm and lengths of about 1 mum was obtained. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy observation shows that microtwin defects lie in the straight silicon nanowires. Raman scattering from the nanowires shows a larger line width (about 15 cm(-1)) and a down-shifted (about 9 cm(-1)) peak as compared to that of bulk crystalline silicon. Abstract

In this Letter, we report the growth of carbon nanofibers arrays by chemical vapor deposition in the presence of magnetic force. We find that when a magnet is applied carbon nanofibers arrays are grown and when the magnet is absent carbon nanotubes arrays are grown at the same experimental conditions. The nanofibers are worse in alignment and less in graphitization than those of the nanotubes grown at the same conditions. What is interesting is that two or three nanofibers can be connected together through a catalyst nanoparticle. These connections might be useful, especially in the fabrication of nanoelectronic devices.

Abstract

Low-fat snack products are the driving forces for the drying of tortilla chips before frying. Super-heated steam impingement drying of foods has the advantage of improved energy efficiency and product quality. The temperature profile, drying curves, and the physical properties (shrinkage, crispiness, starch gelatinization and microstructure) of tortilla chips dried at different superheated steam temperatures and heat transfer coefficients were measured. Results indicated that the steam temperature had a greater effect on the drying curve than the heat transfer coefficient within the range of study. The microstructure of the samples after steam drying showed that higher steam temperature resulted in more pores and coarser appearance. The modulus of deformation and the shrinkage of tortilla chips correlated with moisture content. A higher steam temperature caused less shrinkage and a higher modulus of deformation. 66. Directed evolution of AAV accounting for long-term and enhanced transduction of cardiovascular endothelial cells in vivo

Abstract

Cardiac endothelial cells (ECs) are important targets for cardiovascular gene therapy. However, the approach of stably transducing ECs in vivo using different vectors, including adeno-associated virus (AAV), remains unexamined. Regarding this unmet need, two AAV libraries from DNA shuffling and random peptide display were simultaneously screened in a transgenic mouse model. Cardiac ECs were isolated by cell sorting for salvage of EC-targeting AAV. Two AAV variants, i.e., EC71 and EC73, enriched in cardiac EC, were further characterized for their tissue tropism. Both of them demonstrated remarkably enhanced transduction of cardiac ECs and reduced infection of liver ECs in comparison to natural AAVs after intravenous injection. Significantly, persistent transgene expression was maintained in mouse cardiac ECs in vivo for at least 4 months. The EC71 vector was selected for delivery of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene into cardiac ECs in a mouse model of myocardial infarction. Enhanced eNOS activity was observed in the mouse heart and lung, which was correlated with partially improved cardiac function. Taken together, two AAV capsids were evolved with more efficient transduction in cardiovascular endothelium in vivo, but their endothelial tropism might need to be further optimized for practical application to cardiac gene therapy.

68. Delineation and Evaluation of a Carbonate Reef-shoal under the Control of Sequence Framework, Using Block A within the Pre-Caspian Basin

Abstract

Ancient carbonate reef-shoals are extremely important to oil/gas production around the world, because they characterize the bedrock in which carbonate reservoir systems are predominately developed. This paper combines the evolution of the regional sedimentary setting with reservoir characteristics revealed by drilling data in Block A within the Pre-Caspian Basin. Using sequence stratigraphic analysis techniques, we establish a framework for the KT-I Member within the Upper Carboniferous unit in Block A. By combining paleostructural restoration, seismic facies characteristics, and seismic attribute analysis results of volumetric curvature and highlight volume, we delineate the reef-shoal distribution scope, and based on these results, put forward drilling proposals in Block A. Drilling results have confirmed the validity of the prediction, opening a new chapter of carbonate lithologic reservoir exploration in the study area.

Non-uniqueness of the tree representations is a well-known problem in feature extraction from the output of a CSG solid modelling system. Three main causes of the problem are examined and the most commonly occured one is dealt with in this paper. Based on the achievement of position relationships between orthogonal primitive objects, an approach for solving the non-uniqueness steming from multiple definitions for an identical object is detailed. To demonstrate the methodology of the approach, an object with the machining feature of a square slot is illustrated.

In this paper, we present the design of a social robot, Nancy, which is developed as a platform for engaging social interaction. Targeting for a social, safe, interactive and user-friendly robot mate, the design philosophy of Nancy is presented with mechanical, electrical, artificial skin and software specifications. In particular, there are 32 degrees of freedom (DOFs) through the whole body of Nancy, and the social intelligence is implemented based on vision, audio and control subsystems.

Abstract

In this paper an innovative method for machining sculptured surfaces is presented. By using a disc cutter with a concave end instead of traditional ball-ended or drum-shaped tools, and by adjusting the cutter axis to move relatively to the component being machined according to some special rules during the cutter's passage through the surface, the envelope formed by the trace of the tool-nose in each step and the required surface have the same derivatives up to the third order in the plane normal to the feeding direction. As a result, the steps needed in the machining process can be greatly reduced as the same accuracy is ensured. A series of strict proofs of the theoretical foundation of the new method is presented in this first part of the paper, whilst some essential algorithms are to be discussed in the second part.

Abstract

The Born cross sections of e+e−→Σ0Σ¯0 are measured at center-of-mass energies from 2.3864 to 3.0200 GeV using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 328.5 pb−1 collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The analysis makes use of a novel reconstruction method for energies near production threshold, while a single-tag method is employed at other center-of-mass energies. The measured cross sections are consistent with earlier results from BaBar, with a substantially improved precision. The cross-section lineshape can be well described by a perturbative QCD-driven energy function. In addition, the effective form factors of the Σ0 baryon are determined. The results provide precise experimental input for testing various theoretical predictions.

Abstract

The kinematic analysis of the mechanical arm plays an important role on the applications of the mechanical arms. In this paper, a novel 3-DOF hybrid mechanical arm is proposed at first. Then the direct and inverse displacement equations of the mechanical arm, the direct solutions or inverse solutions are unique, are developed based on its architecture feature. At last, the kinematic transmission capacity evaluation indices are defined using the result of the kinematic analysis based on the position analysis, and the distribution of the kinematic transmission capacity evaluation index is plotted in the constant workspace, which can provide theoretical base for the applications of the 3-DOF hybrid mechanical arm, and this 3-DOF hybrid mechanical arm is suitable for the modern industrial applications where a big workspace, high stiffness and good technics et al, are required.

Abstract

Static analysis plays an important role on the design and applications of manipulators. In this paper, the torque balance equations of a 3-DOF spherical parallel manipulator are derived. Then the torque transmission capacity evaluation index and the global index are defined and discussed in detail on the base of the torque balance equations. At last, the geometrical parameters of the spherical parallel manipulator are optimized based upon the global index, other performance capacity evaluation indices and technics. The research results of this paper provide the theoretical base for the design and applications of the 3-DOF spherical parallel manipulator and the prototype of a mechanical shoulder based upon the 3-DOF spherical parallel manipulator has been developed in our Lab.

Abstract

The magnetic and electrical transport behaviors of ${\mathrm{Cr}}_{7}{({\mathrm{Se}}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}{\mathrm{Te}}_{x})}_{8}$ compounds are investigated in detail. Spin-glass-like behavior is observed, which results from the spin frustration due to the competition between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. As Se is substituted by Te, a minimum of resistivity is observed in temperature dependence of resistivity and the temperature ${T}_{\mathrm{min}}$ corresponding to the minimum increases with Te concentration. Hopping conductivity in terms of variable range-hopping is used to describe the electrical transport behavior below ${T}_{\mathrm{min}}$. The resistivity of these compounds is sensitive to the external magnetic field, which shifts the magnetic ordering temperature ${T}_{\mathrm{MO}}$ to higher temperature and ${T}_{\mathrm{min}}$ to lower temperature. The resistivity at the magnetic field becomes smaller, compared to the zero-field value, resulting in a negative magnetoresistance.

Abstract

Magnetic measurements indicate that the glassy ferromagnetism exists in the ordered intermetallic ${\mathrm{Mn}}_{3.1}{\mathrm{Sn}}_{0.9}$ compound with ${\mathrm{Ni}}_{3}\mathrm{Sn}$-type structure. This glassy ferromagnetism exhibits both weak canonical behaviors, including a susceptibility sharp peak at ${T}_{f}=31.8\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ and the frequency-dependent susceptibility below ${T}_{f}$, and long-range ferromagnetic ones, including a large coercivity and a magnetization increase after field-cooled below ${T}_{f}$. The glassy component is ascribed to both a small amount of disorder, arising from the random occupation of $2c$ sites in the space group $P{6}_{3}∕mmc$ by excess Mn atoms, and the common frustration. A power law for the critical slowing down gives the flipping time ${\ensuremath{\tau}}_{0}=3.9\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{s}$, the collective freezing temperature ${T}_{g}=31.5\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$, and the dynamical exponent $z\ensuremath{\nu}=3.38$.

Abstract

This paper presents a new outer-rotor stator-doubly-fed doubly-salient permanent-magnet (SDF-DSPM) machine, which can be used as the integrated starter-generator for modern automobiles and mild hybrid electric vehicles. The key of the proposed machine is to incorporate both dc field windings and PMs in the inner stator, hence, offering a compact arrangement of hybrid field excitations. While armature windings are located in salient poles of the outer stator, the outer rotor is simply composed of salient poles without windings or PMs. In addition, an air bridge is purposely created in shunt with each PM in the inner stator, hence, providing an amplification effect for flux regulation. With this idea, the air-gap flux can be strengthened or weakened with a small dc field current so that the electromagnetic torque and induced electromotive force (EMF) can be effectively regulated. Abstract

The interfacial oxygen diffusion during film growth often results in the appearance of a thin ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{x}$ layer in ${\mathrm{SrTiO}}_{3}∕\mathrm{Si}$ films and related heterojunctions. High-resolution TEM investigations on the ${\mathrm{La}}_{0.9}{\mathrm{Sr}}_{0.1}{\mathrm{MnO}}_{3}∕{\mathrm{SrTiO}}_{3}∕\mathrm{Si}(\mathrm{LSMO}∕\mathrm{STO}∕\mathrm{Si})$ heterojunctions suggested that the thickness and microstructure of the ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{x}$ interfacial layer change visibly from one sample to another grown under slightly different conditions. Electron diffraction observations demonstrated the epitaxial relationships in the $\mathrm{LSMO}∕\mathrm{STO}∕\mathrm{Si}$ heterojunction as ${[001]}_{\mathrm{LSMO}}\ensuremath{\Vert}{[\ensuremath{-}110]}_{\mathrm{Si}}$, ${[110]}_{\mathrm{LSMO}}\ensuremath{\Vert}{[001]}_{\mathrm{Si}}$ and ${[001]}_{\mathrm{STO}}\ensuremath{\Vert}{[001]}_{\mathrm{Si}}$, ${[010]}_{\mathrm{STO}}\ensuremath{\Vert}{[\ensuremath{-}110]}_{\mathrm{Si}}$. The electron energy loss spectroscopy analyses on the $\mathrm{LSMO}∕\mathrm{STO}∕\mathrm{Si}$ interfacial region indicated that the Si ions are in intermediate oxidation states in the amorphous layer and the interfacial Ti bonding changes slightly. Electron holography measurements indicated that the energy barrier between the Si substrate and the LSMO film is about $0.95\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.16\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{V}$, where notable negative charges accumulate in the amorphous ${\mathrm{SiO}}_{x}$ layer.

Abstract

The paper presents a new control strategy and its real-time implementation for a power transmission line inspection robot based on expert system design methods. In this paper, an algorithm is proposed to coordinate the operations between distributed expert systems, in which the principle of the goodness to fit to the rules and facts is employed for decision making and reasoning. To implement the control strategy, a combination of computer languages including C, VC++ and CLIPS are adopted that provide a convenient and effective software platform. On-line experiment results show that the control strategy can guide the inspection robot to patrol along the transmission lines and cross various typical obstacles efficiently. At the locations of corners and bends of the transmission line, more complicated obstacles occur, so two sub-expert systems work together and guide the robot passing through the locations smoothly. At those locations, the speed of the robot obviously slows down for safety consideration

Abstract

Applications of urea before planting and at the initial flowering stage at ratios of 1:1 are the conventional nitrogen (N) fertilization method in the Yellow River Valley Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) Area of China. This study was conducted to determine whether increasing urea fertilization ratios at the initial flowering stage or fertilization once at the budding or the initial flowering stage could improve seed cotton yield, plant [sup 15]N recovery, and decrease fertilizerN loss (FNL). Pot experiments were conducted in 2013 and 2014, arranged in a randomized complete block design with two contemporary cultivars (CCRI 79 and CCRI 60), and four fertilization timing/ratios with the same total N application amount 3.5g N per 35 kg soil per pot over the entire growing stage, the conventional fertilization method (1:1), application of urea before planting and at the initial flowering stage at ratios of 1:2 and the application of urea all at the initial flowering stage and all at the budding stage.The results revealed that the application of urea all at the budding stage and all at the initial flowering stage could increase cotton plant [sup 15]N recovery and decrease the FNL compared to the split application of urea, and achieved similar seed cotton yield of conventional fertilization in addition to application of urea all at the budding stagefor CCRI 60in 2013. Application of urea before planting and at the initial flowering stage at ratios of 1:2 improved the seed cotton yields although could not significantly increase the cotton plant[sup 15]N recovery and decreased the FNL comparing to the conventional fertilization method. It was feasible to decrease the N ratio of base N and increase the ratio of topdressing Nat the initial flowering stage based on conventional N fertilization method in cotton N management. The optical limiting performances for β-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines with initial linear transmission T o = 88% to approximately 92% at 532 nm in a 5 mm spectroscopic cell in toluene have been measured with 35 ps pulses, in which β-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanine free-base exhibits the strongest optical limiting ability through a reverse saturable absorption from S 1 → S n excited singlet states with σ s1 = 4.0 x 10 -17 cm 2 . The optical limiting thresholds are 50, 130 and 140 mJ/cm 2 at T/T o = 0.5 for phthalocyanine free base, nickel phthalocyanine, and lead phthalocyanine respectively. The throughput of the phthalocyanine free base is clamped down to 70 mJ/cm 2 with the limiting nonlinear transmittance T lim = 18% as the incident fluence reaching to 400 mJ/cm 2 . The solubility, aggregation behavior and photo-stability for β-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines have been studied. The solubility of the β-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines has an obvious improving, which dissolve in non-polar solvent more easily than in polar solvent. The aggregation equilibrium constant k = 5.6 x 10 3 in toluene for phthalocyanine free base is lager that in mixed solvent (k' = 1.4 x 10 3 ), which means that the β-octa-octyloxy phthalocyanines aggregate more easily in non-polar solvent than in polar solvent through the π-π interaction. The β-octa-octyloxy lead phthalocyanine appeared a lower photo-stability among them.

Abstract

A dynamic threshold MOSFET (DTMOS) was invented by Assaderaghi et al.(1994), connecting the gate to the contact terminal. There are four ways to connect the contact terminal: (1) keep the contact terminal floating; (2) connect the contact terminal to the source; (3) connect the contact terminal to the gate; and (4) take the contact terminal as a new input. We have designed fabricated and simulated all four ways of connecting the contact terminal.

Abstract

We have discovered and studied a new mode of operation of transistors and integrated circuits-dual carrier field effect transistors (DCFETs) and integrated circuits (DCFEICs). In this paper we present the device physics theory and some of the DC measurement results of one type of structure for our new mode of operation. We show that, with mature SOI technology, the SOI lateral DCFET (LDCFET) is predicted to have a better performance than the SOI MOSFET. With proper design, the cutoff frequency can be as high as 6000 GHz with an effective channel length of 0.0368 /spl mu/m and good microwave performance.

Abstract

Strong three-photon absorption (3PA) and the frequency up- conversion fluorescence induced by 3PA in two novel stilbazolium-like dyes containing triple conjugated bridge have been observed, pumped with 35 ps laser at 1064 nm. The maximum fluorescence peaks are located in the 550, 610 and 700 nm respectively. The emission intensity dependence for the visible emissions on the 1064 nm excitation obeys the cubic law. A local emission (LE) of the donor moiety, excited intramolecular charge transfer state (ICT) and twisted intramolecular charge transfer state (TICT) are response for the multiple fluorescence emissions. The nonlinear transmitted intensity dependence on the laser incident intensity has been demonstrated as a main result referred to three-photon absorption in a 1-cm-path sample quartz cell with solute dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) at 1064 nm, from which the calculated nonlinear absorption coefficient inferred from three-photon absorption fitted curve are (alpha) 3 equals 4.3 and 3.2 X 10-21 cm3/W2 and the corresponding molecular three-photon absorption cross sections are (sigma) 3 equals 1.9 and 1.6 X 10-76 cm6(DOT)s2, respectively. Abstract

The passive optical limiters are of significant for protecting sensors and human eyes from high intensity laser. The selection of materials is still one of the key for optical power limiters. The nonlinear optical properties of pentaazadentate metal complexes (PMC) were measured, the third-order optical nonlinear polarizabilities of 1.19~3.38x10-13esu were obtained, from which the molecular second order hyperpolarizabilities of 8.0x10-32~2.83x10-31esu were calculated. The optical limiting performances for PMC have been studied at 532nm for 8ns and 35ps pulses by using nonlinear absorption technique, in which the reverse saturable absorptions in the T1 and S1 states were responsible for the optical limitings. Abstract

Using e+e− collision data at ten center-of-mass energies between 2.644 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 500 pb−1, we measure the cross sections and effective form factors for the process e+e−→Ξ0Ξ¯0 utilizing a single-tag method. A fit to the cross section of e+e−→Ξ0Ξ¯0 with a pQCD-driven power function is performed, from which no significant resonance or threshold enhancement is observed. In addition, the ratio of cross sections for the processes e+e−→Ξ−Ξ¯+ and Ξ0Ξ¯0 is calculated using recent BESIII measurement and is found to be compatible with expectation from isospin symmetry.

Abstract

Using 5.9 pb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies from 3.640 to 3.701 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII Collider, we measure the observed cross sections of e+e−→KS0X (where X=anything). From a fit to these observed cross sections with the sum of continuum and ψ(3686) and J/ψ Breit-Wigner functions and considering initial state radiation and the BEPCII beam energy spread, we obtain for the first time the product of ψ(3686) leptonic width and inclusive decay branching fraction Γψ(3686)eeB(ψ(3686)→KS0X)=(373.8±6.7±20.0) eV, and assuming Γψ(3686)ee is (2.33±0.04) keV from PDG value, we measure B(ψ(3686)→KS0X)=(16.04±0.29±0.90)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Abstract

The electromagnetic process e+e−→pp¯ is studied with the initial-state-radiation technique using 7.5 fb−1 of data collected by the BESIII experiment at seven energy points from 3.773 to 4.600 GeV. The Born cross section and the effective form factor of the proton are measured from the production threshold to 3.0 GeV/c2 using the pp¯ invariant-mass spectrum. The ratio of electric and magnetic form factors of the proton is determined from the analysis of the proton-helicity angular distribution.

Abstract

Based on 586 pb−1 of e+e− annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of s=4.6GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the absolute branching fraction of Λc+→pKS0η decays is measured for the first time to be B(Λc+→pKS0η)=(0.414±0.084±0.028)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The result is compatible with a previous CLEO result on the relative branching fraction B(Λc+→pKS0η)B(Λc+→pK−π+), and consistent with theoretical predictions of SU(3) flavor symmetry.

Abstract

Using 16 energy points of e+e− annihilation data collected in the vicinity of the J/ψ resonance with the BESIII detector and with a total integrated luminosity of around 100pb−1, we study the relative phase between the strong and electromagnetic amplitudes of J/ψ decays. The relative phase between J/ψ electromagnetic decay and the continuum process (e+e− annihilation without the J/ψ resonance) is confirmed to be zero by studying the cross section lineshape of μ+μ− production. The relative phase between J/ψ strong and electromagnetic decays is then measured to be (84.9±3.6)∘ or (−84.7±3.1)∘ for the 2(π+π−)π0 final state by investigating the interference pattern between the J/ψ decay and the continuum process. This is the first measurement of the relative phase between J/ψ strong and electromagnetic decays into a multihadron final state using the lineshape of the production cross section. We also study the production lineshape of the multihadron final state ηπ+π− with η→π+π−π0, which provides additional information about the phase between the J/ψ electromagnetic decay amplitude and the continuum process. Additionally, the branching fraction of J/ψ→2(π+π−)π0 is measured to be (4.73±0.44)% or (4.85±0.45)%, and the branching fraction of J/ψ→ηπ+π− is measured to be (3.78±0.68)×10−4. Both of them are consistent with the world average values. The quoted uncertainties include both statistical and systematic uncertainties, which are mainly caused by the low statistics. Abstract

The Born cross sections of the e+e−→Σ+Σ¯− and e+e−→Σ−Σ¯+ processes are determined for center-of-mass energy from 2.3864 to 3.0200 GeV with the BESIII detector. The cross section lineshapes can be described properly by a pQCD function and the resulting ratio of effective form factors for the Σ+ and Σ− is consistent with 3. In addition, ratios of the Σ+ electric and magnetic form factors, |GE/GM|, are obtained at three center-of-mass energies through an analysis of the angular distributions. These measurements, which are studied for the first time in the off-resonance region, provide precision experimental input for understanding baryonic structure. The observed new features of the Σ± form factors require more theoretical discussions for the hyperons.

Abstract

Born cross sections for the processes e+e−→ωη and e+e−→ωπ0 have been determined for center-of-mass energies between 2.00 and 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The results obtained in this work are consistent with previous measurements but with improved precision. Two resonant structures are observed. In the e+e−→ωη cross sections, a resonance with a mass of (2176±24±3)MeV/c2 and a width of (89±50±5)MeV is observed with a significance of 6.2σ. Its properties are consistent with the ϕ(2170). In the e+e−→ωπ0 cross sections, a resonance denoted Y(2040) is observed with a significance of more than 10σ. Its mass and width are determined to be (2034±13±9)MeV/c2 and (234±30±25)MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic.
