53. Magnetic-field modulation of topological electronic states and emergent magneto-transport in a magnetic Weyl semimetal

Abstract

The modulation of topological electronic states by an external magnetic field is highly desired for condensed matter physics. Schemes to achieve this have been proposed theoretically, but few can be realized experimentally. Here, combining transverse transport, theoretical calculations, and scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S) investigations, we provide an observation that the topological electronic states, accompanied by an emergent magneto-transport phenomenon, were modulated by applying magnetic fields through induced non-collinear magnetism in the magnetic Weyl semimetal EuB6. A giant unconventional anomalous Hall effect (UAHE) is found during the magnetisation re-orientation from easy axis to hard ones in magnetic fields, with a UAHE peak around the low field of 5 kOe. Under the reasonable spin-canting effect, the folding of the topological anti-crossing bands occurs, generating a strong Berry curvature that accounts for the observed UAHE. Field-dependent STM/S reveals a highly synchronous evolution of electronic density of states, with a dI/dV peak around the same field of 5 kOe, which provides evidence to the folded bands and excited UAHE by external magnetic fields. This finding elucidates the connection between the real-space non-collinear magnetism and the k-space topological electronic states and establishes a novel manner to engineer the magneto-transport behaviours of correlated electrons for future topological spintronics., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures

54. Mechanism of Action of Lonicera caerulea Berry Polyphenols in Regulating Intestinal Microecology in Immunosuppressive Mice

Abstract

Objective: In order to explore the effects of Lonicera caerulea berry polyphenols (LCBP) on immunity and intestinal flora in immunosuppressive mice. Methods: Thirty-two mice were randomly divided into a blank control group, a model group, a low-dose LCBP group and a high-dose LCBP group. Cyclophosphamide at 80 mg/(kg mb·d) was injected intraperitoneally after 17, 19 and 21 d of oral administration. Immune organ indices, routine blood biochemical indexes, intestinal microbial diversity and distribution, and the level of short chain fatty acids in colonic contents were investigated and colonic histopathology was examined by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Results: Compared with the model group, spleen and thymus indexes in the high-dose LCBP group significantly increased (P < 0.01). Also, the number of white blood cells, lymphocytes and platelets increased (P < 0.05), and so did the number of red blood cells and neutrophils (P < 0.01). LCBP increased the relative abundance of Firmicutes, Epsilonbacteraeota, Proteobacteria, Patescibacteria, Actinobacteria and Cyanobacteria in the intestinal tract of immunosuppressive mice and the concentrations of fecal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Conclusion: LCBP can increase the type of intestinal flora, regulate the structural distribution of intestinal flora, alleviate intestinal injury and enhance immune function in immunosuppressive mice.

55. Genetic alterations of KRAS and TP53 in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma associated with poor prognosis

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate certain genetic features of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICCA). A total of 12 eligible ICCA patients were enrolled, and tumor tissues from the patients were subjected to next-generation sequencing of a multi-genes panel. Tumor mutation burden (TMB), mutated genes, copy number variants (CNVs), and pathway enrichment analysis were performed. The median TMB was 2.76 Mutation/Mb (range, 0–36.62 Mutation/Mb) in ICCA patients. The top two most commonly mutated genes in ICCA were KRAS (33%) and TP53 (25%). The co-mutations of KRAS and TP53 were 16.7% (2/12) in ICCA patients. Notably, patient P6 with the highest TMB did not have KRAS and TP53 mutations. Additionally, TP53 and/or KRAS alterations were significantly associated with poor progression-free survival than those with wild type (1.4 months vs 18 months). DNA damage repair and homologs recombinant repair deficiencies were significantly associated with high TMB in ICCA cases. In conclusion, we found that certain genetic mutations of TP53 and KRAS could predict poor prognosis in ICCA patients.

75. Interlayer Ferromagnetism and High-Temperature Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect in \textit{p}-Doped MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ Multilayers

Abstract

The interlayer antiferromagnetic coupling hinders the observation of quantum anomalous Hall effect in magnetic topological insulator MnBi$_2$Te$_4$. We demonstrate that interlayer \textit{ferromagnetism} can be established by utilizing the \textit{p}-doping method in MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ multilayers. In two septuple-layers system, the interlayer ferromagnetic coupling appears by doping nonmagnetic elements (e.g., N, P, As, Na, Mg, K, and Ca), due to the redistribution of orbital occupations of Mn. We further find that Mg and Ca elements are the most suitable candidates because of their low formation energy. Although, the \textit{p}-doped two septuple layers exhibit topologically trivial band structure, the increase of layer thickness to three (four) septuple layers with Ca (Mg) dopants leads to the formation of the quantum anomalous Hall effect. Our proposed \textit{p}-doping strategy not only makes MnBi$_2$Te$_4$ become an ideal platform to realize the high-temperature quantum anomalous Hall effect without external magnetic field, but also can compensate the electrons from the intrinsic \textit{n}-type defects in MnBi$_2$Te$_4$.

76. Prediction of daily maximum ozone levels using Lasso sparse modeling method

Abstract

This paper applies modern statistical methods in the prediction of the next-day maximum ozone concentration, as well as the maximum 8-hour-mean ozone concentration of the next day. The model uses a large number of candidate features, including the present day's hourly concentration level of various pollutants, as well as the meteorological variables of the present day's observation and the future day's forecast values. In order to solve such an ultra-high dimensional problem, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) was applied. The $L_1$ nature of this methodology enables the automatic feature dimension reduction, and a resultant sparse model. The model trained by 3-years data demonstrates relatively good prediction accuracy, with RMSE= 5.63 ppb, MAE= 4.42 ppb for predicting the next-day's maximum $O_3$ concentration, and RMSE= 5.68 ppb, MAE= 4.52 ppb for predicting the next-day's maximum 8-hour-mean $O_3$ concentration. Our modeling approach is also compared with several other methods recently applied in the field and demonstrates superiority in the prediction accuracy.

Abstract

Lung cancer shows a high rate of incidence and mortality. This study aimed to investigate the influence of octreotide (OCT) on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced apoptosis and metabolome expression in A549 cells. After A549 cells were treated by LPS or co-cultured with LPS and OCT, cell apoptosis was tested by flow cytometry, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC/MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometer (LC/MS) were subjected to determine the differently expressed metabolites, and the interaction network was constructed. Results found that OCT promoted the apoptosis of A549 cells and significantly affected LPS-regulated cell apoptosis. Following the further investigation by orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA), the metabolites with different expression levels were obtained, and most of which belong to amino acids, phospholipids, organic acid, and saccharides. Fourteen components with the role of the marker metabolites included serotonin, indole, threonine, serine, glucose, phenylalanine, lactose, fumarate, 4-hydroxyphenyllactate, aspartate, asparagine, putrescine, proline, and succinate. It is indicated that OCT promotes apoptosis through five metabolism pathways and 14 key metabolism elements in A549 cells.
