Summary: Antibiotics have a strong killing effect on bacteria and are the first choice for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infectious diseases. Therefore, they have been widely used in the medical field, animal husbandry and planting industry. However, with the massive use of antibiotics, more and more antibiotic‐resistant bacteria (ARB) have emerged. Because human intestines are rich in nutrients, have suitable temperature, and are high in bacterial abundance, they can easily become a hotbed for the spread of ARB and antibiotic‐resistant genes (ARGs). When opportunistic pathogenic bacteria in the intestine acquire ARGs, the infectious diseases caused by such opportunistic pathogens will become more difficult to treat, or even impossible to cure. Therefore, ARB in the human intestine are like a 'time bomb'. In this review, we discuss the sources of intestinal ARB and the transmission routes of ARGs in the human intestine from the perspective of One Health. Further, we describe various methods to prevent the emergence of ARB and inhibit the spread of ARGs in the human intestine. Finally, we may be able to overcome ARB in the human intestine using an interdisciplinary 'One Health' approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Piezoelectric nanostructures have many important applications in nanodevices and micro-electro-mechanical systems. This work developed a topochemical method based on Molten-Salt Synthesis for synthesizing one-dimensional nanoscale single crystals of lead-free ( K,Na) NbO3 ( KNN) piezoelectric oxides. The synthesis process started from molten-salt reaction between Nb2O5 powders and KCl to produce high-aspect-ratio K2Nb8O21 bar-shaped particles which were transformed to Nb2O5 nanobars via ion-exchange and thermal decomposition steps, and finally, KNN nanobars were formed also by molten-salt reaction among Nb2O5 nanobars as templates, and K2CO3 and Na2CO3 in KCl salts. The as-synthesized KNN nanobars were proved to be single crystals by transmission electron microscopy. The piezoelectricity of an individual KNN nanobar was confirmed by scanning probe microscopy, as the effective piezoelectric coefficient d33* was measured to be 113 pm/V. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer and the third cause of cancer death in the world, while intestinal microbiota is a community of microbes living in human intestine that can potentially impact human health in many ways. Accumulating evidence suggests that intestinal microbiota, especially that from the intestinal bacteria, play a key role in the CRC development; therefore, identification of bacteria involved in CRC development can provide new targets for the CRC diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Over the past decade, there have been considerable advances in applying 16S rDNA sequencing data to verify associated intestinal bacteria in CRC patients; however, due to variations of individual and environment factors, these results seem to be inconsistent. In this review, we scrutinized the previous 16S rDNA sequencing data of intestinal bacteria from CRC patients, and identified twelve genera that are specifically enriched in the tumor microenvironment. We have focused on their relationship with the CRC development, and shown that some bacteria could promote CRC development, acting as foes, while others could inhibit CRC development, serving as friends, for human health. Objective: Renal calculi are solid crystals that form in the kidneys and cause severe pain and discomfort. This study aims to investigate risk factors for postoperative recurrence of renal calculi in elderly patients and provide background knowledge on the prevalence and management of renal calculi in this demographic., Methods: The clinical data of 123 elderly patients with renal calculi were included from 1 June 2021 to 1 June 2023 for their 6-month follow-up study. The patients were divided into recurrence group and non-recurrence group according to whether they had recurrence after surgery. The general sociological characteristics and disease-related characteristics of the two groups were counted. Logistic regression equation was used to calculate differences, and the influencing factors of postoperative recurrence in elderly patients with kidney stones were obtained. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to analyse the value of the factors in predicting postoperative recurrence in patients with kidney stones., Results: A total of 123 elderly patients with renal calculi were enrolled. The patients were divided according to the presence or absence of stone recurrence into the recurrence group (25 cases, 20.33%) and the non-recurrence group (98 cases, 79.67%). Postoperative water intake, excessive intake of animal protein, exercise and postoperative complications significantly differed between the recurrence group and the non-recurrence group ( p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that the above-mentioned indicators were the influencing factors of postoperative recurrence. The area under the curve (AUC) values of postoperative water intake (AUC = 0.767), animal protein intake (AUC = 0.752), exercise (AUC = 0.707) and postoperative complications (AUC = 0.727) were statistically significant, and they were identified as the most important factors with high sensitivity and specificity and were of high value in predicting postoperative recurrence of renal calculi., Conclusions: Elderly patients with kidney stones are prone to recurrence after surgery.
