OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of midodrine on treating patients with septic shock. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature search was conducted in PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase. The Mantel-Haenszel method was used to calculate pooled relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). The mean differences (MD) or standardized mean difference (SMD) were calculated using the inverse variance for continuous variables. Data analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS: A total of 6 studies were finally included in this meta-analysis. Adding midodrine to patients with septic shock was associated with a reduction in hospital mortality [risk ratio (RR) 0.76; 95% CI, 0.57-1.00; p=0.05] and intensive care unit (ICU) mortality (RR 0.59; 95% CI, 0.41-0.87; p=0.008). However, there were no significant differences in the duration of intravenous vasopressors [standardized mean difference (SMD) -0.18; 95% CI, -0.47-0.11; p=0.23], intravenous vasopressor reinstitution (RR 0.58; 95% CI, 0.19-1.80; p=0.35), the length of ICU stay [mean difference (MD) -0.53 days; 95% CI, -2.24- 1.17; p=0.54], and the length of hospital stay (MD -2.40 days; 95% CI, -5.26-0.46; p=0.10) between midodrine group and intravenous vasopressor alone group. CONCLUSIONS: The additional use of midodrine might reduce hospital mortality and ICU mortality in patients with septic shock. More high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to verify this conclusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: There is limited data about the use of a Judkins left (JL) 3.5 guiding catheter for routine transradial right coronary artery (RCA) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This study investigated the safety and efficacy of JL3.5 for RCA PCI. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) who underwent transradial RCA PCI between November 2019 and November 2020 at the Second Hospital of Shandong University were included. The study retrospectively compared JL 3.5 vs. other routine guiding catheters (GCs), including Judkins right (JR) 4.0 and Amplatz (left). Logistic multivariable analysis was used to analyze the factors associated with transradial RCA PCI success rate, in-hospital complications, and extra support. RESULTS: The study included 311 patients: 136 in the routine GC group and 175 in the JL 3.5 group. There were no significant differences between the two groups regarding in-hospital complications, extra support technics, or success. The multivariable analyses showed that coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) was negatively associated with intervention success (OR = 0.06, 95% CI: 0.016-0.248, p < 0.001) but positively with extra support (OR = 8.74, 95% CI: 1.518-50.293, p = 0.015). Tortuosity was associated with extra support (OR = 16.50, 95% CI: 3.324-81.589, p = 0.001). In the JL 3.5 group, the left ventricular ejection fraction (OR = 1.11, 95% CI: 1.03-1.20, p = 0.006), CTO (OR = 0.07, 95% CI: 0.008-0.515, p = 0.009), and tortuosity (OR = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.03-0.95, p = 0.043) were independently associated with intervention success. CONCLUSIONS: JL 3.5 appears to be as safe and effective as the JR 4.0 and Amplatz (left) catheters for RCA PCI. When using the JL 3.5 catheter for RCA PCI, heart function, CTO, and tortuosity should be considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OBJECTIVE: This review was conducted to assess the role of social media in oral health promotion by reviewing the perspectives and evaluation methods of previous related studies. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The preferred reporting items PRISMA checklist was used to structure this review. Key search terms were identified to examine databases including PubMed, Web of Science and Embase. Manual searches in relevant journals and materials were also conducted in the meantime. RESULTS: A total of 640 articles were identified after multi-source screening and duplicates removing, and finally 19 original studies published before April 2020 met the inclusion criteria. These studies mainly cover the fields of dentistry education and research, clinical treatment, and preventive dentistry. Both traditional and new-type social media have advantages and focuses, as well as biased information. Detailed assessment methods and indicators are classified into several groups, which could be selected to use in future research. CONCLUSIONS: The application of social media in oral health promotion is becoming popular with the development of information technology. The broader use in the future, covering dentistry, mass health education, both long-term and short-term treatments of additional clinical content, requires further evaluation and supervision in online information sharing process. OBJECTIVE: Approximately 60% of patients with kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) die within the first 2-3 years. The prognosis for patients with KIRC and its metastases is poor. Ferroptosis and providing immunity are novel treatment targets for several cancers, including KIRC. Therefore, it is important to identify suitable ferroptosis- and immune-related signatures to predict the prognosis and diagnosis of patients with KIRC. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The corresponding data of patients with KIRC were obtained from the Cancer Genome Atlas. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to screen candidate biomarkers in patients with KIRC. RESULTS: We found that four FI-DEGs (BID, MET, LTB4R, and HMOX1) were independently associated with the overall survival of patients with KIRC. The prognosis and diagnosis model constructed using these four biomarkers could predict the outcome of KIRC, as measured by the receiver operating characteristic analyses. CONCLUSIONS: We identified 4 FI-DEGs that could be used as biomarkers in patients with KIRC. The present study not only contributes to understanding the roles of ferroptosis and immunity in the development of KIRC, but also to the diagnosis and prognosis of KIRC, although it remains to be further studied.
