Monocular depth estimation (MDE) in the self-supervised scenario has emerged as a promising method as it refrains from the requirement of ground truth depth. Despite continuous efforts, MDE is still sensitive to scale changes especially when all the training samples are from one single camera. Meanwhile, it deteriorates further since camera movement results in heavy coupling between the predicted depth and the scale change. In this paper, we present a scale-invariant approach for self-supervised MDE, in which scale-sensitive features (SSFs) are detached away while scale-invariant features (SIFs) are boosted further. To be specific, a simple but effective data augmentation by imitating the camera zooming process is proposed to detach SSFs, making the model robust to scale changes. Besides, a dynamic cross-attention module is designed to boost SIFs by fusing multi-scale cross-attention features adaptively. Extensive experiments on the KITTI dataset demonstrate that the detaching and boosting strategies are mutually complementary in MDE and our approach achieves new State-of-The-Art performance against existing works from 0.097 to 0.090 w.r.t absolute relative error. Pyrethroid insecticides are ubiquitously detected in environmental media, food, and urine samples. Our previous epidemiological study reported a correlation between increased pyrethroid exposure and delayed pubertal development in Chinese girls. In this study, we further investigated the effects of perinatal exposure to low doses of cypermethrin (CP) on pubertal onset and hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis in the female mice offspring. The treatment of CP with 60 μg/kg/day from gestation day 6 (GD6) to postnatal day 21 (PND21) significantly decreased the time to puberty in the female offspring. Exposure of CP increased the serum levels of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and the expression of GnRH genes in a dose-dependent manner in the female offspring. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which exist in all aspects of our lives, may interfere with the synthesis, action and metabolism of human sex steroid hormones, resulting in development and fertility problems as well as obesity and the disturbance of energy homeostasis. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that used worldwide possess the satisfactory function of disease prevention, treatment and health care, and this natural medicine seems to be favored due to its low side effects. From planting to processing, TCM may be polluted by various EDCs. Many studies pay attention to this problem, but there are still few reviews on the residues and toxicity risks of EDCs in TCM. In this paper, researches related to EDCs in TCM were screened. The possible contamination sources of TCM from planting to processing and its toxic effects were introduced. Moreover, the residues of metals, pesticides and other EDCs in TCM as well as the health risks of human exposure to EDCs through ingestion of TCM materials were reviewed.

Mounting evidence supports that long-term exposure to fine particle pollutants (PM2.5) is closely implicated in cardiovascular diseases, especially atherosclerosis. Amygdalin is reported to attenuate external stimuli-induced cardiovascular diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms are still not understood. In this study, we aim to explore the protective effects of amygdalin on PM2.5-induced human umbilical vein endothelial cell (HUVEC) injury and unravel the specific mechanisms by MTT, DCFH-DA, biochemical, immunofluorescence, ELISA, RT-qPCR, flow cytometry, TUNEL and western blot analysis. The results reveal that amygdalin reverses PM2.5-induced cytotoxicity and attenuates intracellular ROS production. Moreover, amygdalin increases the levels of SOD and GSH and alleviates the MDA content. Additionally, amygdalin causes a decline of IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α and COX-2 levels. Moreover, amygdalin inhibits NF-κB p50 and TLR4 protein expressions and NF-κB p65 nuclear translocation. Concomitantly, a decline of phospho-NF-κB p65/NF-κB p65 and phospho-IκB-α/IκB-α is detected. Meanwhile, amygdalin pretreatment reduces HUVEC apoptosis. In addition, amygdalin triggers an upregulation of Bcl-2 and a downregulation of Bax after stimulation with PM2.5. Collectively, these results suggest that amygdalin suppresses PM2.5-induced HUVEC injury by regulating the TLR4/NF-κB and Bcl-2/Bax signaling pathways, indicating that amygdalin may be a novel target for atherosclerosis treatments.

Thallium exposure has been associated with female reproductive health, but little is known about its potential association with premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). In this study, a total of 169 patients with POI and 209 healthy women were recruited from Zhejiang province, China. Urinary thallium concentrations were significantly positively associated with the risk of POI [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 1.63, 95% CI: 1.25-2.13, p < 0.001], geometric mean values of which were significantly higher in POI cases (0.213 μg/L, 0.302 μg/g for creatinine adjustment) than those of controls (0.153 μg/L, 0.233 μg/g for creatinine adjustment). Furthermore, the serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone were positively associated with urinary thallium concentrations, whereas anti-Mullerian hormone and estradiol were negatively correlated with thallium. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to provide evidence that thallium exposure at currently environmental levels is the potential risk factor for POI in women.

Doubanjiang-meju has been used as an intermediate for producing Pixian Douban (PXDB) and contributes significantly to its flavor. In this study, a profiling analysis of volatile compounds in open fermented doubanjiang-meju (OFD) and closed fermented doubanjiang-meju (CFD) was performed with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and gas chromatography–olfactometry (GC–O). A total of 42 and 50 volatile compounds were identified in the OFD and CFD, respectively. Compared with the OFD, more diversity and higher concentrations of alcohols and esters were found in the CFD. Ten and 12 volatile compounds were finally identified as the major aroma-active compounds in the OFD and CFD, respectively, by the combined analysis of aroma intensity values and odor activity values (OAVs). Objective The purpose of this survey is to evaluate the knowledge of Chinese pregnant women about fetal chromosomal aneuploidy and microdeletion and microduplication syndromes, and Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT). Study Design Written questionnaires were distributed to pregnant women who visited the fetal medicine clinic of the third affiliated hospital of Guangzhou medical university. A total of 330 questionnaires were given. Twenty-two questionnaires with incomplete information were excluded from further analysis. The remaining 308 cases were incorporated into the final analysis. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. Comparisons between categorical variables were tested by the use of crosstabs and χ 2 test. Results Among pregnant women, the recognition of Down syndrome was the highest (93.5 %), followed by maternal serum screening (74.0 %) and NIPT (69.2 %) for chromosomal aneuploidy. The awareness rates of chromosomal microdeletions and microduplications (18.2 %) and monogenic disorders (13.3 %) were the lowest. There were no significant differences in age, education, and conception way between pregnant women (P > 0.05). When asked the opinion on increasing the testing range of NIPT, more than 50 % of pregnant women chose to follow the provider's advice. Conclusion More than half of pregnant women lacked knowledge of screening methods for fetal chromosomal abnormalities. Less than 20 % of pregnant women knew microdeletion microduplication syndromes. To enhance the understanding of chromosomal abnormalities can ensure that women can actively choose tests rather than passively agreeing to their provider's recommendations so as to avoid missing the optimal prenatal screening time.

An increasing number of studies investigated the association between air pollution during pregnancy and the risk of eczema in offspring. However, no meta-analysis has confirmed the existence and size of their association to date. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases to select the observational controlled studies published from the inception date to October 16, 2021. Quality evaluation was guided by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Sensitivity analysis was applied to assess the impact of each included study on the combined effects, and publication bias was examined by the Begg’s tests and Egger’s tests. A total of 12 articles involving 69,374 participants met our eligibility criteria. The significant association between the maternal exposure to NO2 (per 10 μg/m3 increased) and childhood eczema was observed, with a pooled risk estimate of 1.13 (95% CI: 1.06-1.19), but no association was observed between exposure to PM10, PM2.5, and SO2 and the risk of eczema in offspring. Besides, the effect of maternal NO2 exposure on childhood eczema was significant in the first and second trimesters, but not in the third trimester. There was notable variability in geographic location (p = 0.037) and air pollutant concentration (p = 0.031) based on meta-regression. Our findings indicated that prenatal exposure to NO2 was a risk factor for elevated risk of eczema in childhood, especially in the first and second trimesters. Further studies with larger sample sizes considering different constituents of air pollution and various exposure windows are needed to validate these associations.

Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal that occurs in the environment in large quantities through human activities, has been shown to have adverse effects on female reproductive health. However, the association between cadmium exposure and primary ovarian insufficiency (POI), one of the most prevalent ovarian diseases in women, has not been examined yet. This case–control study involving 169 POI cases and 209 healthy controls was conducted in Zhejiang Province, China. The urinary concentrations of cadmium were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). In addition, serum levels of reproductive hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) and estradiol, were measured. The median concentration of urinary cadmium in POI cases (0.43 μg/L, 0.58 μg/g for creatinine adjustment) was significantly higher than that of controls (0.29 μg/L, 0.43 μg/g for creatinine adjustment). The results of binary logistic regression models showed that the concentrations of urinary cadmium were positively significantly correlated with the odds ratio (ORs) of POI before the adjustment of confounders. After the adjustment, a significantly positive association was still present between the increased concentrations of cadmium and the ORs of POI (2.50, 95% CIs: 1.34–4.65 for the third tertile, p for trend = 0.001). The serum levels of FSH and LH were positively associated with urinary cadmium, while AMH and estradiol levels were inversely correlated. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported positive association of cadmium exposure with the risk of POI in women.

Mixed Lineage Leukemia 1 (MLL1), an important member of Histone Methyltransferases (HMT) family, is capable of catalyzing mono-, di-, and trimethylation of Histone 3 lysine 4 (H3K4). The optimal catalytic activity of MLL1 requires the formation of a core complex consisting of MLL1, WDR5, RbBP5, and ASH2L. The Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) between WDR5 and MLL1 plays an important role in abnormal gene expression during tumorigenesis, and disturbing this interaction may have a potential for the treatment of leukemia harboring MLL1 fusion proteins. In this review, we will summarize recent progress in the development of inhibitors targeting MLL1- WDR5 interaction.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a typical class of persistent organic pollutants that is ubiquitous worldwide. Previous animal studies suggested that PAHs had adverse effects on female reproduction. However, the human data regarding relationship of PAHs exposure with women reproductive health, such as ovarian dysfunction, are scarce. In this case-control study, the associations of serum levels of PAHs with the risk of premature ovarian failure (POF) and reproductive hormones in Chinese women were investigated, with recruiting 157 POF patients and 217 healthy women. The serum levels of 12 types of PAHs, as well as reproductive hormones, including follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and anti-mullerian hormone, were determined. In the logistic regression models, most individual PAH congeners showed significantly positive correlations with the risk of POF (p 0.05), except for fluorine and pyrene. Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP), as the most carcinogenic PAH congener, was observed to be significantly positively associated with the risk of POF. After adjustment for age, body mass index, educational levels and household income, per one-unit increase in the log-transformed BaP concentration was significantly correlated with 2.191-fold increased risk of POF (OR = 2.191, 95%CI: 1.634-2.938, p 0.05). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report an association between internal exposure levels of PAHs and the increased risk of POF in women.

Objective The L1 cell adhesion molecule (L1CAM) gene, encodes the L1 cell adhesion molecule, is involved in the central nervous system development. Its mutations result in L1 syndrome which is associated with brain malformation and nervous developmental delay. Case report We presented three fetuses with hydrocephalus and agenesis of the corpus callosum detected by ultrasound, followed by medical exome sequencing (MES) test with L1CAM mutations: two known missense mutation c.551G > A (p. R184Q) and c.1354G > A (p. G452R), and a novel frameshift mutation c.1322delG which causes the early termination of translation (p. G441Afs∗72). By utilizing multiple computational analysis, all the variants were scored to be likely pathogenic. Conclusion Combined use of ultrasound and MES to identify the molecular etiology of fetal anomalies may contribute to expanding our knowledge of the clinical phenotype of L1 syndrome observed in the south Chinese population.

Object reidentification with the goal of matching pedestrian or vehicle images captured from different camera viewpoints is of considerable significance to public security. Quadruple directional deep learning features (QD-DLFs) can comprehensively describe object images. However, the correlation among QD-DLFs is an unavoidable problem, since QD-DLFs are learned with quadruple independent directional deep networks (QIDDNs) driven with the same training data, and each network holds the same basic deep feature learning architecture (BDFLA). The correlation among QD-DLFs is harmful to the complementarity of QD-DLFs, restricting the object reidentification performance. For that, we propose joint quadruple decorrelation directional deep networks (JQD3Ns) to reduce the correlation among the learned QD-DLFs. In order to jointly train JQD3Ns, besides the softmax loss functions, a parameter correlation cost function is proposed to indirectly reduce the correlation among QD-DLFs by enlarging the dissimilarity among the parameters of JQD3Ns. Extensive experiments on three publicly available large-scale data sets demonstrate that the proposed JQD3Ns approach is superior to multiple state-of-the-art object reidentification methods.

Background Nonfunctioning pituitary adenoma (NFPA) and growth hormone pituitary adenoma (GHPA) are major subtypes of pituitary adenomas (PAs). The primary treatment is surgical resection. However, radical excision remains challenging, and few effective medical therapies are available. It is urgent to find novel targets for the treatment. Bromodomain-containing protein 4 (BRD4) is an epigenetic regulator that leads to aberrant transcriptional activation of oncogenes. Herein, we investigated the pathological role of BRD4 and evaluated the effectiveness of BRD4 inhibitors in the treatment of NFPA and GHPA. Methods The expression of BRD4 was detected in NFPA, GHPA, and normal pituitary tissues. The efficacies of BRD4 inhibitors were evaluated in GH3 and MMQ cell lines, patient-derived tumor cells, and in vivo mouse xenograft models of PA. Standard western blots, real-time PCR, and flow cytometry experiments were performed to investigate the effect of BRD4 inhibitors on cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and the expression patterns of downstream genes. Results Immunohistochemistry studies demonstrated the overexpression of BRD4 in NFPA and GHPA. In vitro and in vivo studies showed that treatment with the BRD4 inhibitor ZBC-260 significantly inhibited the proliferation of PA cells. Further mechanistic studies revealed that ZBC-260 could downregulate the expression of c-Myc, B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl2), and related genes, which are vital factors in pituitary tumorigenesis. Conclusion In this study, we determined the overexpression of BRD4 in NFPA and GHPA and assessed the effects of BRD4 inhibitors on PA cells in vitro and in vivo. Our findings suggest that BRD4 is a promising therapeutic target for NFPA and GHPA.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are a group of extensively used man-made chemicals with diverse substituents that are ubiquitously detected in human-related samples including serum, breastmilk, food and house dust. The understanding of their toxicological effects and potential mechanisms on hepatocytes is still limited. In this study, nine most frequently detected OPEs were selected and divided into three subgroups (aryl-, halogenated- and alkyl-OPEs) based on their substituents. The cytotoxicity, apoptosis, oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by OPEs were evaluated in human hepatocellular carcinomas HepG2 cells. All OPEs induced apoptosis likely through a caspase-dependent apoptotic pathway. The activities of anti-oxidative enzyme SOD and CAT exhibited sensitive responses after OPEs treatment for 6 h. The OPEs induced ROS overproduction, DNA damage, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation varied among aryl-, halogenated- and alkyl-OPEs. Halogenated- and alkyl- OPEs induced overproduction of ROS and DNA damage, and elevated ER stress and NLRP3 inflammasome activation are observed aryl-OPEs induced cytotoxicity.

Homeostasis disturbance of trace elements has been linked to adverse reproductive consequences, including premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) in women, but limited evidence has been reported so far. This case-control study evaluated the associations between 5 common urinary trace elements [copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe), Selenium (Se), and zinc (Zn)] and the odds for POI. Urinary concentrations of these 5 metals and serum levels of POI-related reproductive hormones of 169 cases and 209 healthy controls were measured. The urinary levels of Cu and Se in women with POI were significantly higher than those in the controls.
