BackgroundDespite establishing an association between gut microbiota and spondyloarthritis (SpA) subtypes, the causal relationship between them remains unclear.MethodsGut microbiota data were obtained from the MiBioGen collaboration, and SpA genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data were obtained from the FinnGen collaboration. We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using the inverse-variance-weighted method supplemented with four additional MR methods (MR-Egger, weighted median, simple mode, and weighted mode). Pleiotropy and heterogeneity were also assessed. Reverse MR analysis was used to detect reverse causal relationships.ResultsWe identified 23 causal links between specific gut microbiota taxa and SpA levels. Of these, 22 displayed nominal causal associations, and only one demonstrated a robust causal connection. Actinobacteria id.419 increased the risk of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) (odds ratio (OR) = 1.86 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.29–2.69); p = 8.63E−04). The family Rikenellaceae id.967 was associated with a reduced risk of both AS (OR = 0.66 (95% CI: 0.47–0.93); p = 1.81E−02) and psoriatic arthritis (OR = 0.70 (95% CI: 0.50–0.97); p = 3.00E−02). Bacillales id.1674 increased the risk of AS (OR = 1.23 (95% CI: 1.00–1.51); p = 4.94E−02) and decreased the risk of enteropathic arthritis (OR = 0.56 (95% CI: 0.35–0.88); p = 1.14E−02). Directional pleiotropy, or heterogeneity, was not observed. No reverse causal associations were observed between the diseases and the gut microbiota.ConclusionOur MR analysis suggested a genetic-level causal relationship between specific gut microbiota and SpA, providing insights into the underlying mechanisms behind SpA development mediated by gut microbiota.

Rice is a food with a high starch content, comprising over 75% of its composition. However, prolonged and excessive consumption of this cereal may lead to elevated blood glucose levels, which can increase the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Butyric acid (BA), the primary energy source for colonic epithelial cells, exhibits the highest utilization rate among short-chain fatty acids, underscoring its importance for human health. In this study, rice starch butyrate (RSB) samples were synthesized using the aqueous phase process, with broken rice starch (RS) and butyric anhydride serving as the substrate. RSB samples with different degrees of substitution (DS) were produced by modulating the addition amount of butyric anhydride. The crystal structures, morphology of starch granules, pasting properties, thermal stability, and in vitro digestibilities of the RSB were investigated and compared with those of native rice starch. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the successful incorporation of butyryl into the starch molecules. With the increase in DS, the roughness of the RSB material's surface gradually increased, leading to the deterioration of the smooth structure on certain surfaces, which resulted in the appearance of cracks and collapses. Additionally, the crystallinity diminished from 24.77% to 7.41% with increasing DS. Concurrently, in vitro digestive characterisation revealed that the percentage of resistant starch increased from 24.33% to 47.72%. Thus, this study can provide a theoretical basis for the development of novel products of amyl butyrate.

Cell-cultured meat, which is obtained by adsorbing cells on the three-dimensional scaffold, is considered a potential solution to animal welfare issues. Edible and safe cell-cultured meat scaffolds are a key part of its research. Soy protein isolate (SPI) hydrogel has a three-dimensional network structure and has been studied for L929 cell culture because of its non-toxicity and biocompatibility. However, the toughness and mechanical properties of SPI hydrogel are not enough to bear the requirements of cell cultivation. In this paper, sodium alginate (SA) was added to SPI hydrogel, and the interpenetrating network (IPN) technology was used to construct SPI-SA IPN hydrogel by transglutaminase and Ca2+ double crosslinking method. SPI-SA IPN hydrogel has excellent mechanical properties, structural stability and biodegradable performance than SPI hydrogel. The bio-compatibility and degradability of L929 and C2C12 cells on SPI-SA IPN hydrogel were studied by cytotoxicity, trypan blue and living/dead cell staining, and the growth law of the hydrogel as a scaffold for cell culture was analyzed. The results showed that L929/C2C12 cells can proliferate normally and adhere in hydrogel and have good bio-compatibility. L929 cells with size about 20–50 µm have better adhesion and growth abilities on SPI-SA IPN hydrogel than C2C12 cells with 100–300 µm. Therefore, the SPI-SA IPN hydrogel is non-toxic and supports the growth of cells in the pores of the material. This study provides a reference for the application of SPI-SA IPN hydrogels in vitro cell growth.

The structure-bioactivity relationship of Tremella fuciformis polysaccharides (TFPs) in anti-aging in vivo is rarely reported. In the present study, a purified TFP, named HM, mainly composed of mannose, fucose, xylose, and glucose in a molar ratio of 4.14:0.98:0.81:0.62, was obtained from the fruiting body of T. fuciformis . Subsequently, two differentially degraded TFPs, named MM and LM, respectively, were prepared by a combined method of ultrasonic irradiation (US) and H 2 O 2 treatment. Their structural properties, scavenging activities against free radicals in vitro , and anti-aging effects on D-galactose-induced aging of mice were determined. The average molecular weight of HM, MM, and LM was 58.3×10 6 , 4.68×10 6 , and 3.14×10 5 Da, respectively. All three TFPs were devoid of triple helix conformation and exhibited concentration- and molecular weight-dependent scavenging activity against radicals. The TFPs markedly relieved skin aging, effectively attenuated oxidative stress, and significantly decreased inflammation in D-galactose-induced aging mice. MM exhibited the best anti-aging effect among the TFPs. Additionally, TFPs partially restored the alterations in pH and the total content of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in the colon but exhibited various impacts on the content of the individual SCFAs. These findings would provide rational guidance for a better application of TFPs in anti-aging foods and expand our understanding of the structure-function relationship of mushroom polysaccharides.

Summary:. Severe high-voltage electrical burns (HVEBs) to the hand can result in significant injuries, requiring early use of skin flaps or grafts for reconstruction to optimize hand function recovery. However, there is currently a lack of consensus on strategies to improve aesthetics and hand function. We reported a case of severe HVEB on the left hand that was successfully treated by a radial artery perforator flap assisted by artificial dermis (AD) and vacuum sealing drainage (VSD). In phase I, necrotic tissue was removed through debridement while preserving parabiotic tissue. The left thumb was fixed with a Kirschner wire, and the wound was covered with AD and VSD. After 2 weeks, phase II repair surgery was performed using a radial artery perforator flap to cover the wound surface. At 2 weeks after surgery, the skin flap showed good tension and no blood circulation disorders or blister formation. At 12 months after surgery, the flap had not shrunk, and its texture and color closely resembled the surrounding normal tissues. The flap also demonstrated resistance to friction, and there was nearly normal wrist joint mobility. The use of a radial artery perforator flap assisted by AD and VSD provides a simple and effective reconstruction method that preserves important vessels in the forearm, minimizes damage to local cutaneous nerves, and eliminates the need for vascular anastomosis. Therefore, this technique offers advantages in terms of aesthetics and functional improvement for severe HVEBs to the hand, although it has been rarely reported before.

Many biological surfaces are capable of transporting liquids in a directional manner without energy consumption. Inspired by nature, constructing asymmetric gradient surfaces to achieve desired droplet transport, such as a liquid diode, brings an incredibly valuable and promising area of research with a wide range of applications. Enabled by advances in nanotechnology and manufacturing techniques, biomimetics has emerged as a promising avenue for engineering various types of anisotropic material system. Over the past few decades, this approach has yielded significant progress in both fundamental understanding and practical applications. Theoretical studies revealed that the heterogeneous composition and topography mainly govern the wetting mechanisms and dynamics behavior of droplets, including the interdisciplinary aspects of materials, chemistry, and physics. In this review, we provide a concise overview of various biological surfaces that exhibit anisotropic droplet transport. We discussed the theoretical foundations and mechanisms of droplet motion on designed surfaces and reviewed recent research advances in droplet directional transport on designed plane surfaces and Janus membranes. Such liquid-diode materials yield diverse promising applications, involving droplet collection, liquid separation and delivery, functional textiles, and biomedical applications. We also discuss the recent challenges and ongoing approaches to enhance the functionality and application performance of anisotropic materials.

Bipolaris maydis is the pathogenic microorganism of southern corn leaf blight, a persistent biotic constraint responsible for substantial yield losses of corn worldwide. In the present study, 96 isolates from six representative fields growing single and multiple sweet corn cultivars in Pingnan, Fuqing, and Jian’ou in Fujian Province, which are characterized by different geographical characteristics and cropping patterns, were genetically analyzed using inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers to assess the impact of geographical origins and corn cultivars on B. maydis population differentiation. B. maydis isolates originated from diverse regions possessed higher genetic variety than those from single and multiple sweet corn cultivars. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolates from single and multiple sweet corn cultivars were randomly grouped into different clusters, with those from the same location tending to form clusters. A greater genetic differentiation among different geographical populations than between those from single and multiple sweet corn cultivars was observed by pairwise comparison. Hierarchical analysis indicated that among-population variation was higher when comparatively analyzed B. maydis populations from different locations than in those from single and multiple sweet corn cultivars. In conclusion, these results suggest that geographical origin acts a more considerable role in genetic differentiation of B. maydis than corn cultivar. Two divided genetic clusters were detected in the B. maydis populations from single and multiple sweet corn cultivars at the three locations in Fujian Province, with major genetic variation being derived within populations. The high haplotypic diversity and expected mating type ratio of 1:1 in combination with significant linkage disequilibrium suggested that a mixed reproductive strategy occurs in the B. maydis population in Fujian Province. This study will enrich the information on the role that geographical origins and corn cultivars play in the population structure of the pathogen as well as the reproductive strategies in B. maydis population in Fujian Province.

In order to meet the needs of people to supplement the element selenium, in this paper, rice with retained germ was used as raw material to prepare selenium-enriched rice with retained germ by ultrasonic soaking. The optimal process conditions were optimized by single factor experiment, principal component analysis and response surface experiment, and the quality characteristics such as cooking characteristics, texture characteristics, gelatinization characteristics and thermal characteristics of rice with retained germ were studied. The results showed that the optimal process conditions were ultrasonic soaking time 8.25 min, ultrasonic soaking temperature 40 ℃ and ultrasonic power 150 W. Under these conditions, the comprehensive score of selenium-enriched rice with retained germ was 97.31±0.12. The surface pores of rice with retained germ were uniformly formed, the content of immobilized water and free water was increased, the cooking characteristics of rice grains were good, the texture was loose, soft and non-sticky, the taste was smooth, and the nutritional quality was improved.

Abstract Background Valtrate, a natural compound isolated from the root of Valeriana, exhibits antitumor activity in many cancers through different mechanisms. However, its efficacy for the treatment of glioblastoma (GBM), a tumor type with a poor prognosis, has not yet been rigorously investigated. Methods GBM cell lines were treated with valtrate and CCK-8, colony formation and EdU assays, flow cytometry, and transwell, 3D tumor spheroid invasion and GBM-brain organoid co-culture invasion assays were performed to assess properties of proliferation, viability, apoptosis and invasion/migration. RNA sequencing analysis on valtrate-treated cells was performed to identify putative target genes underlying the antitumor activity of the drug in GBM cells. Western blot analysis, immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry were performed to evaluate protein levels in valtrate-treated cell lines and in samples obtained from orthotopic xenografts. A specific activator of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) was used to identify the pathways mediating the effect. Results Valtrate significantly inhibited the proliferation of GBM cells in vitro by inducing mitochondrial apoptosis and suppressed invasion and migration of GBM cells by inhibiting levels of proteins associated with epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT). RNA sequencing analysis of valtrate-treated GBM cells revealed platelet-derived growth factor receptor A (PDGFRA) as a potential target downregulated by the drug. Analysis of PDGFRA protein and downstream mediators demonstrated that valtrate inhibited PDGFRA/MEK/ERK signaling. Finally, treatment of tumor-bearing nude mice with valtrate led to decreased tumor volume (fivefold difference at day 28) and enhanced survival (day 27 vs day 36, control vs valtrate-treated) relative to controls. Conclusions Taken together, our study demonstrated that the natural product valtrate elicits antitumor activity in GBM cells through targeting PDGFRA and thus provides a candidate therapeutic compound for the treatment of GBM.

Scientific visualization is important in modern technological activities and engineering exploration. Due to the dark and high-pressure characteristics of deep sea, it is difficult to visualize the entire operation of deep-sea equipment. Thus, it is of great necessity to use virtual simulation technology to help people understand the operation process of some deep-sea exploration equipment on the sea floor. In this paper, science, art, and new media are combined through artistic rendering, visual processing, and the technology of virtual reality (VR) and holography, which makes the exploration of the latest deep-sea lander and intelligent submersible named “Luling” look more intuitive and smart and have more visual impact and expression. Apart from that, automatic manipulation videos of the rover robot in the deep sea captured by the Luling are effectively nested to realize the goal of virtual and real presentation. The designed scientific visualization of deep-sea equipment can not only adapt to the display output of VR, mobile phones, TV, 360° showcase, and other platforms, but also achieve immersive experience and virtual simulation learning through HTC Vive VR equipment. The technology and design way of scientific visualization in this paper is universal and suitable to the same kind of engineering simulation.

Abstract Background The tripartite motif (TRIM) family of proteins plays a key role in the developmental growth and therapeutic resistance of many tumors. However, the regulatory mechanisms and biological functions of TRIM proteins in human glioblastoma (GBM) are not yet fully understood. In this study, we focused on TRIM56, which emerged as the most differentially expressed TRIM family member with increased expression in GBM. Methods Western blot, real-time quantitative PCR (qRT-PCR), immunofluorescence (IF) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to study the expression levels of TRIM56 and cIAP1 in GBM cell lines. Co-immunoprecipitation (co-IP) was used to explore the specific binding between target proteins and TRIM56. A xenograft animal model was used to verify the tumor promoting effect of TRIM56 on glioma in vivo. Results We observed elevated expression of TRIM56 in malignant gliomas and revealed that TRIM56 promoted glioma progression in vitro and in a GBM xenograft model in nude mice. Analysis of the Human Ubiquitin Array and co-IPs showed that cIAP1 is a protein downstream of TRIM56. TRIM56 deubiquitinated cIAP1, mainly through the zinc finger domain (amino acids 21–205) of TRIM56, thereby reducing the degradation of cIAP1 and thus increasing its expression. TRIM56 also showed prognostic significance in overall survival of glioma patients. Conclusions TRIM56-regulated post-translational modifications may contribute to glioma development through stabilization of cIAP1. Furthermore, TRIM56 may serve as a novel prognostic indicator and therapeutic molecular target for GBM.

To define the diffusion behavior of harmful exhaust substances from diesel vehicles and support safety risk assessments of underground coal mines, we performed a multi-species coupling calculation of the emission and diffusion of harmful substances from a trackless rubber-wheel diesel vehicle. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the diffusion of harmful emissions was hence established and verified. From the perspective of risk analysis, the diffusion behavior and distribution of hazardous substances emitted by the diesel vehicle were studied under 4 different conditions; moreover, we identified areas characterized by hazardous levels of emissions. When the vehicle idled upwind in the roadway, high-risk areas formed behind and to the right of the vehicle: particularly high concentrations of pollutants were measured near the rear floor of the vehicle and within 5 m behind the vehicle. When the vehicle idled downwind, high-risk areas formed in front of it: particularly high concentrations of pollutants were measured near the floor and within 5 m from the front of the vehicle. In the above cases, the driver would not breathe highly polluted air and would be relatively safe. When the vehicle idled into the chamber, however, high-risk areas formed on both sides of the vehicle and near the upper roof. Forward entry of the vehicle caused a greater increase in the concentration of pollutants in the chamber and in the driver’s breathing zone compared with reverse entry.

Starch is a kind of biodegradable biopolymer with a wide range of sources and low price. With the development of nanotechnology, starch nanoparticles have become a research hotspot due to their unique properties different from native starch. In this paper, the structure characteristics of different sources of starch is introduced, the preparation of starch nanoparticles of top-down and bottom-up method and the advantages and disadvantages of various preparation methods are summarized, the effects of starch nanoparticles on Pickering emulsion stability, performance improvement of composite material, delivery of targeted drug and adsorption of industrial waste water are reviewed, and the application prospect of starch nanoparticles in food, industry, medicine and other fields is prospected in order to provide the theoretical basis for the research of starch nanoparticles.

Abstract Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-induced NK (iNK) cells are a source of off-the-shelf cell products for universal immune therapy. Conventional methods for iNK cell regeneration from hPSCs include embryoid body (EB) formation and feeder-based expansion steps, which are time-consuming and cause instability and high costs of manufacturing. Here, we develop an EB-free, organoid aggregate method for NK cell regeneration from hPSCs. In a short time-window of 27-day induction, millions of hPSC input can output over billions of iNK cells without the necessity of NK cell expansion feeders. The iNK cells highly express classical toxic granule proteins, apoptosis-inducing ligands, as well as abundant activating and inhibitory receptors. Functionally, the iNK cells eradicate human tumor cells via mechanisms of direct cytotoxicity, apoptosis, and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity. This study provides a reliable scale-up method for regenerating human NK cells from hPSCs, which promotes the universal availability of NK cell products for immune therapy.

Abstract The cotton bollworm Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), an important pest of cotton, is detrimental to cotton production. Light from UV-A ultraviolet lamps is regarded as a form of environmental stress for insects. In order to investigate the response of H. armigera exposed to UV-A, we explored Hap38 MAPK expression and functions. We hope that the findings of this study will lay the foundation for future investigations into the insect’s phototaxis mechanism. A p38 MAPK was cloned and named Hap38 MAPK. A phylogenetic tree showed that Hap38 MAPK was highly conserved. The gene was highly expressed in the thorax and females. Under UV-A stress, the expression of the gene decreased significantly. After silencing Hap38 MAPK, the activity of the antioxidant enzymes SOD, POD, CAT, and GR decreased. This study suggested that Hap38 MAPK responds to UV-A irradiation and plays critical roles in the defense response to environmental stresses.

Abstract Background Mitochondria play critical roles in cellular physiological activity as cellular organelles. Under extracellular stimulation, mitochondria undergo constant fusion and fission to meet different cellular demands. Mitochondrial dynamics, which are involved in mitochondrial fusion and fission, are regulated by specialized proteins and lipids, and their dysregulation causes human diseases, such as cancer. The advanced literature about the crucial role of mitochondrial dynamics in breast cancer is performed. Methods All related studies were systematically searched through online databases (PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE) using keywords (e.g., breast cancer, mitochondrial, fission, and fusion), and these studies were then screened through the preset inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results Eligible studies (n = 19) were evaluated and discussed in the systematic review. These advanced studies established the roles of mitochondrial fission and fusion of breast cancer in the metabolism, proliferation, survival, and metastasis. Importantly, the manipulating of mitochondrial dynamic is significant for the progresses of breast cancer. Conclusion Understanding the mechanisms underlying mitochondrial fission and fusion during tumorigenesis is important for improving breast cancer treatments.

Abstract The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified semimetal arsenic as a human carcinogen. Arsenic poisoning can severely impact human health. Arsenic can be classified into inorganic and organic arsenic, with arsenolipids (AsLs) belonging to the category of organic arsenic. The primary species of AsLs include arsenic‐containing hydrocarbons (AsHCs), fatty acids, and phospholipids. AsLs are highly abundant in marine organisms and diet may be the primary source of exposure to AsLs. Although increasing evidence shows that AsLs are cytotoxic to humans, the specific toxicity and its mechanism remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the hepatotoxicity and possible mechanisms of the toxic effects of AsLs in mice. Three AsLs (AsHC 332, AsHC 346, and AsHC 374) were administered via gavage at a dose of 3 mg/kg for 4 weeks. The results showed that short‐term exposure did not affect the normal growth and development of mice. However, it caused liver damage in mice, mainly by disrupting the metabolism of selenium, copper, zinc, and other elements related to the synthesis of antioxidant enzymes, thereby reducing the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the expression of related genes. The liver damage effect of AsHC 332 was the strongest among the three AsLs.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) is the most common malignant tumor that arises in the epithelium of the head and neck regions. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are one of the tumor-infiltrating immune cell populations, which play a powerful role in inhibiting anti-tumor immune response. Herein, we employed a single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) dataset to dissect the heterogeneity of myeloid cells. We found that SPP1+ tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and MDSCs were the most abundant myeloid cells in the microenvironment. By cell cluster deconvolution from bulk RNA-seq datasets of larger patient groups, we observed that highly-infiltrated MDSC was a poor prognostic marker for patients’ overall survival (OS) probabilities. To better apply the MDSC OS prediction values, we identified a set of six MDSC-related genes (ALDOA, CD52, FTH1, RTN4, SLC2A3, and TNFAIP6) as the prognostic signature. In both training and test cohorts, MDSC-related prognostic signature showed a promising value for predicting patients’ prognosis outcomes. Further parsing the ligand-receptor pairs of intercellular communications by CellChat, we found that MDSCs could frequently interact with cytotoxic CD8+ T cells, SPP1+ TAMs, and endothelial cells. These interactions likely contributed to the establishment of an immunosuppressive microenvironment and the promotion of tumor angiogenesis. Our findings suggest that targeting MDSCs may serve as an alternative and promising target for the immunotherapy of HNSC.

In order to improve the retrogradation of rice starch (RS) and the quality of rice products, soy protein isolate (SPI), whey protein isolate (WPI), and rice flour were mixed and further extruded into mixed flour. The physicochemical properties and morphology of starch of extruded rice flour (ERS) and starch of extruded mixtures of SPI, WPI, and rice flour (SPI-WPI-ERS) were analyzed. The distribution of amylopectin chain length, molecular weight, microstructure, crystallinity, short-range ordered structure, pasting properties, and thermodynamic properties of RS, ERS, and SPI-WPI-ERS were measured. The results showed that, compared with rice starch, the proportion of long-chain starch, total starch content, and molecular weight were decreased in ERS and SPI-WPI-ERS, but the proportion of short-chain and amylose content was increased. The short-range order structure was destroyed. The water absorption of ERS and SPI-WPI-ERS was much higher than rice starch at 55 °C, 65 °C, and 75 °C, but lower than that of rice starch at 95 °C. Therefore, the retrogradation characteristics of SPI-WPI-ERS were improved. The setback of rice starch products was reduced and the setback of SPI-WPI-ERS was lower than that of ERS. Overall, the retrogradation of rice starch was delayed by adding exogenous protein and extrusion technology, and the application range of rice flour in staple food products was broadened.

Alpinia officinarum Hance, a well known agricultural product in the Lei Zhou peninsula, is generally rich in polysaccharides. In order to enhance the use of A. officinarum Hance polysaccharides (AOP) in functional food, AOP was extracted using an ultrasonic-assisted extraction method, and the ultrasonic extraction parameters of AOP was optimized. Furthermore, this study investigated the physicochemical and antioxidant activities of AOPs. In addition, the structural properties were preliminarily determined using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), high performance size exclusion chromatography, and a Zetasizer. Ultimately, this study explored the mechanism underlying the antioxidant activities of AOP. The results showed that the optimal ultrasonic-assisted extraction parameters were as follows: ultrasonic time, 6 min; ratio of water to material, 12 mL/g; and ultrasonic power, 380 W. Under these conditions, the maximum yield of AOPs was 5.72%, indicating that ultrasonic-assisted extraction technology is suitable for extracting AOPs due to the reduced time and water usage. Additionally, AOPs were purified using graded alcohol precipitation, resulting in three fractions (AOP30, AOP50, and AOP70). AOP30 had the lowest molecular weight of 11.07 kDa and mainly consisted of glucose (89.88%). The half inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of AOP30 and AOP70 was lower than that of AOP50 in the ability to scavenge the ABTS radical, while a reverse trend was observed in reducing ferric ions. Notably, the antioxidant activities of AOPs were highly correlated with their polydispersity index (Mw/Mn) and Zeta potential. AOP30, a negatively charged acidic polysaccharide fraction, exhibited electron donating capacities. Additionally, it displayed strong antioxidant abilities through scavenging 2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate) (ABTS) radicals and reducing ferric ions. In conclusion, the present study suggests that AOP30 could be developed as an antioxidant ingredient for the food industry.

Abstract For the phenomenon of widespread and serious cavitation damage in the throttling section of pressure reducing valve under high temperature and high pressure in the chemical technology process of petroleum and coal, according to actual coordination structure widely applied between the valve core and valve seat, the cavitation throttling section with symmetrical contraction and expansion was made, and the visualized cavitation water tunnel experimental apparatus was designed and constructed. The cavitation evolution process with time under different cavitation numbers σ was recorded by the high‐speed photography, the variation law of cavitation damage length and area with time was investigated by using aluminum film as cavitation damage carrier. Based on the experimental cavitation characteristic length L*, the evaporation coefficient Fv, and condensation coefficient Fc in the Zwart–Gerber–Belamri cavitation numerical model were modified, and the cavitation damage region was predicted by the gas phase condensation rate of numerical simulation. The results show that with the decrease of cavitation number, the characteristic length of cavitation strip increases; the cavitation characteristic length fluctuates greatly at σ = 1.22, and there are cavitation cloud periodic formation, shedding, collapse, and disappearance at the tail of the cavitation strip on the upper valve seat; the cavitation damage length of the upper and lower valve seat remains unchanged with time, and the cavitation damage area increases approximately linearly with time; the initial position and length of cavitation damage predicted by the gas phase condensation rate are basically consistent with the experimental results, which verifies the accuracy of the modified numerical simulation.

Trees can invest up to one-third of the carbon (C) fixed by photosynthesis into belowground allocation, including fine root exudation into the rhizosphere. It is still unclear how climate and soil warming affect tree root C exudation, in particular quantifying longer-term warming effects remains a challenge. In this study, using a C-free cuvette incubation method, in situ C exudation rates from tree fine roots of a mature spruce dominated temperate forest were measured in regular intervals during the 14th and 15th year of experimental soil warming (+ 4°C). In addition, a short-term temperature sensitivity experiment (up to + 10°C warming within 4 days) was conducted to determine the inherent temperature sensitivity of root exudation. Root exudation rates in the long-term warmed soil (17.9 μg C g–1 root biomass h–1) did not differ from those in untreated soil (16.2 μg C g–1 root biomass h–1). However, a clear increase (Q10 ∼5.0) during the short-term temperature sensitivity experiment suggested that fine root exudation can be affected by short-term changes in soil temperature. The absence of response in long-term warmed soils suggests a downregulation of C exudation from the individual fine roots in the warmed soils. The lack of any relationship between exudation rates and the seasonal temperature course, further suggests that plant phenology and plant C allocation dynamics have more influence on seasonal changes in fine root C exudation. Although exudation rates per g dry mass of fine roots were only marginally higher in the warmed soil, total fine root C exudation per m2 soil surface area increased by ∼30% from 0.33 to 0.43 Mg C ha–1 yr–1 because long-term soil warming has led to an increase in total fine root biomass. Mineralization of additional fine root exudates could have added to the sustained increase in soil CO2 efflux from the warmed forest soil at the experimental site.

Abstract Our knowledge of how niche dynamic patterns respond to invasion trajectories and influence invasion risk prediction is elusive for the majority of notorious invaders, hindering scientific understanding, biosecurity planning and practice, and management implementation of biological invasions. We used Mikania micrantha, one of the world's worst invasive alien species (IAS), to test the hypothesis that multiple invasion trajectories could induce niche dynamics inconsistency and increase risk uncertainty of IAS. We compiled a robust database of M. micrantha occurrence across its native range in Central and South America and invaded range in China. This database was used to clarify different invaded ranges and invasion trajectories of M. micrantha in China. Principal components analysis of climatic variables associated with the database was used to explore the niche dynamic patterns associated with multiple invasion trajectories of M. micrantha. Maximum entropy algorithm was used to predict the high‐risk area of M. micrantha invasion using occurrence datasets for invaded ranges where niches remained conservative, and to detect area changes with the inclusion of occurrence datasets for invaded ranges where niche shifts occurred. M. micrantha invasion occurred in three geographically distinct regions, with conservative climate niches in southern and southeastern China and climatic niche shifts in southwestern China. A high‐risk area for M. micrantha invasion spanned multiple provinces and cities and expanded considerably with the inclusion of the occurrence dataset for southwestern China. Our findings contribute to the theoretical understanding of invasion mechanisms and the practical optimization of biosecurity planning and implementation.

Abstract Background The present real-world study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety between fondaparinux sodium (FPX) and low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis in Chinese patients with major orthopedic surgery or trauma. Methods A total of 2429 patients, with major orthopedic surgery or trauma, underwent FPX (n = 1177) or LMWH (n = 1252) for VTE prophylaxis and were retrospectively reviewed. Primary outcomes, including in-hospital VTE and in-hospital major bleeding incidences, as well as the secondary outcomes, including in-hospital minor bleeding, in-hospital death, and VTE/bleeding/death within 2 months after discharge, were analyzed. Inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) was conducted. Results FPX group exhibited lower in-hospital VTE (0.1% vs. 0.8%; P = 0.032, crude OR = 0.11 before IPTW; P = 0.046, weighted OR = 0.12 after IPTW) and in-hospital minor bleeding (17.8% vs. 26.8%; P 0.05). Further subgroup analyses identified, in specific cluster of patients such as older age, renal function impairment, hypertension and so on, in-hospital VTE was declined in FPX group compared to LMWH group (all P

Rock strength parameters are usually indispensable for rock engineering design. Under the experimental testing conditions, the shape effect could significantly affect the measured results. Previous findings from uniaxial tests reveal that the measured rock strength gradually decreases with the increase in the slenderness ratio, which is mainly ascribed to the end effect. However, it is still unclear how strong the influence of the end effect on the shape effect is in true 3D tests. In the present study, rock mechanical behaviors in response to the variation in slenderness ratio are detailly examined in true 3D tests. The calculated results show that rock strength progressively decreases as the slenderness ratio increases. But the rock strength in true 3D tests still deviates far from the actual even though the slenderness ratio goes beyond 2, which is mainly caused by the interface friction along the two extra σ2-normal specimen faces. It is interesting that the slenderness ratio increases lead to an increase in the measured stiffness as well. The calculated results suggest that symmetry in the experimentally defined typical arc-shaped curves σ1(σ2) at constant σ3 are neglected most likely due to the stronger end effects in true 3D tests, and the accurate rock strength parameters are not obtained only through using slender specimens.

Efficient and accurate classification of the microseismic data obtained in coal mine production is of great significance for the guidance of coal mine production safety, disaster prevention and early warning. In the early stage, the classification of microseismic events relies on human experiences, which is not only inefficient but also often causes some misclassifications. In recent years, the neural network-based classification method has become more favored by people because of its advantages in modeling procedures. A microseismic signal is a kind of time-series signal and the application of the classification method is widely optimistic. The number and the balance of the training data samples have an important impact on the accuracy of the classification result. However, the quality of the training data set obtained from the production cannot be guaranteed. A long short-term memory (LSTM) network can analyze the time-series input data, where the image classification at the pixel level can be achieved by the fully convolutional network (FCN). The two structures in the network can not only use the advantages of the FCN for extracting signal details but also use the characteristics of LSTM for conveying and expressing the long time-series information effectively. In this paper, a time-series data enhancement combination process is proposed for the actual poor microseismic data. A hybrid FCN-LSTM network structure was built, the optimal network parameters were obtained by experiments, and finally a reasonable microseismic data classifier was obtained.

The control of ultrafast optical field is of great interest in developing ultrafast optics as well as the investigation on various light-matter interactions with ultrashort pulses. However, conventional spatial encoding approaches have only limited steerable targets usually neglecting the temporal effect, thus hindering their broad applications. Here we present a new concept for realizing ultrafast modulation of multi-target focal fields based on the facile combination of time-dependent vectorial diffraction theory with fast Fourier transform. This is achieved by focusing femtosecond pulsed light carrying vectorial-vortex by a single objective lens under tight focusing condition. It is uncovered that the ultrafast temporal degree of freedom within a configurable temporal duration (~400 fs) plays a pivotal role in determining the rich and exotic features of the focused optical field at one time, namely, bright-dark alternation, periodic rotation, and longitudinal/transverse polarization conversion. The underlying control mechanisms have been unveiled. Besides being of academic interest in diverse ultrafast spectral regimes, these peculiar behaviors of the space-time evolutionary beams may underpin prolific ultrafast-related applications such as multifunctional integrated optical chip, high-efficiency laser trapping, microstructure rotation, super-resolution optical microscopy, precise optical measurement, and liveness tracking.

In this paper, the essential information, nutritional composition, efficiency of rice and rice products in processing problems are expounded, and the factors affecting the quality of rice product in the process of deep processing are analyzed, finally the effects of various exogenous additives on the quality of rice product are summarized, the effect of single exogenous additive is not very good, and the research on composite additives should be strengthened, with the aim of providing reference for the development of rice product processing industry in China.

Heparinoid, a sulfate polysaccharide derived from marine organisms was attracted largely attention due to its versatile activities. A naturally occurring heparinoid (M2) that was extracted from the mollusk Meretrix lusoria and used in this investigation shown strong antithrombotic action. UV–Vis, FT-IR, SAX-HPLC, and NMR were used to explore the structural characteristics of M2, results indicated that M2 similar with heparin, its average molecular weight was 22.58 kDa. Which was primarily made up of→4)-α-IdoA2S-(1→4)-α-GlcNS6S-(1→ (31.19%), →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNAc (1→ (23.21%), →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNS (1→ (13.87%), →4)-α-IdoA2S-(1→4)-α-GlcNS (1→ (8.95%), →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNAc6S (1→ (7.39%) and →4)-β-GlcA-(1→4)-α-GlcNS6S (1→ (7.63%). The antithrombotic activity of M2 was evaluated using measurements of the anticoagulant effect in vitro and the fibrinolytic capability in vitro and in vivo, and M2 has 122.4 U/mg of anticoagulant activity and 1.41 U/mg of fibrinolytic activity, respectively. Additionally, a mouse tail-cutting model was used to assess the bleeding effect in real time, it found that M2 had a reduced hemorrhagic risk than heparin. Consequently, M2 could be exploited to develop functional foods or medications with antithrombotic properties.

In this article, the adaptive neural control problem is studied for the input-delayed stochastic nonlinear system that has both states and input quantization. The main difficulty is to deal with the discontinuity of the virtual control laws caused by states quantization, and to compensate the influence of the input quantization by building the relation between the control input and quantized input. Moreover, this paper considers a sector bounded quantizer and proposes a new adaptive neural network (NN) control algorithm to handle the problem of quantization errors cannot be automatically bounded. For the unknown function in stochastic strict-feedback systems, the radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is utilized to approximate it. The Pade approximation technique is employed to tackle the issue of input delay. All the closed-loop signals can maintain semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded (SGUUB) in probability under the constructed controller and quantizer. Lastly, the efficiency of the developed control method is evaluated by a simulation experiment.

IntroductionDNA methylation was one of the most important modification in epigenetics and played an important role in immune response. Since the introduction of Scophthalmus maximus, the scale of breeding has continued to expand, during which diseases caused by various bacteria, viruses and parasites have become increasingly serious. Therefore, the inactivated vaccines have been widely researched and used in the field of aquatic products with its unique advantages. However, the immune mechanism that occurred in turbot after immunization with inactivated vaccine of Aeromonas salmonicida was not clear.MethodsIn this study, differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were screened by Whole Genome Bisulfite Sequencing (WGBS) and significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were screened by Transcriptome sequencing. Double luciferase report assay and DNA pull-down assay were further verified the DNA methylation state of the gene promoter region affected genes transcriptional activity after immunization with inactivated vaccine of Aeromonas salmonicida.ResultsA total of 8149 differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were screened, in which there were many immune-related genes with altered DNA methylation status. Meanwhile, 386 significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, many of which were significantly enriched in Toll-like receptor signaling pathway, NOD-like receptor signaling pathway and C-type lectin receptor signaling pathway. Combined analysis of WGBS results and RNA-seq results, a total of 9 DMRs of negatively regulated genes are located in the promoter region, including 2 hypermethylated genes with lower expression and 7 hypomethylated genes with higher expression. Then, two immune-related genes C5a anaphylatoxin chemotactic receptor 1-like (C5ar1-Like) and Eosinophil peroxidase-like (EPX-Like), were screened to explore the regulation mechanism of DNA methylation modification on their expression level. Moreover, the DNA methylation state of the gene promoter region affected genes transcriptional activity by inhibiting the binding of transcription factors, which lead to changes in the expression level of the gene.DiscussionWe jointly analyzed WGBS and RNA-seq results and revealed the immune mechanism that occurred in turbot after immunized with inactivated vaccine of A. salmonicida from the perspective of DNA methylation.

Spin exchange relaxation free (SERF) atomic magnetometer is one of the most sensitive magnetometers. High temperature and a non-magnetic environment are two key conditions to achieve ultra-high sensitivity. In this paper, a non-magnetic heating film with magnetic field self-suppression is optimized by the genetic algorithm method. Four structural parameters of the non-magnetic heating film including the wire spacing, wire width, wire thickness, and layer distance are optimized to minimize the magnetic field in the heated space. The simulation result based on the finite element analysis method shows that the magnetic field and the temperature field produced by a pair of heating films at the vapour cell are uniform. Finally, the magnetic field experiment proved that when the current is 10 ​mA, the magnetic field is 3.0520 ​nT. The temperature control experiment indicates that the temperature could be stabilized at 180 ​± ​0.2 ​°C. This study is significant for electric heating with a lower magnetic field and contributes to further improving the performance of atomic sensors.

IntroductionSargassum fusiform is considered a traditional Chinese medicinal herb to treat many diseases, Sargassum fusiform polysaccharides (SFPS) were found to display many important biological activities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the in vitro antioxidant activity of crude polysaccharide from Sargassum fusiforme and its protective effect against H2O2-induced injury in LO2 cells.MethodsSFPS was extracted from Sargassum fusiforme using water extraction and alcohol precipitation. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was used to measure its monosaccharide composition. The in vitro antioxidant activity of SFPS was evaluated using scavenging 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and hydroxyl radical assays. Moreover, its hepatoprotective activity was examined by establishing H2O2-induced LO2 cells injury model.Results and discussionThe results showed that the SFPS was composed of Glc, Ara, Fuc, Gal, Man, Rha and Xyl. Meanwhile, SFPS exhibited strong antioxidant activity and potential hepatoprotective effect. Further studies found that SFPS could alleviate LO2 cells injury induced by H2O2 via decreasing malondialdehyde (MDA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities and inhibiting intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. These results revealed that SFPS had the ability to protect the liver cells from H2O2-induced liver injury through its antioxidant activity.

Economic uncertainty will result in consumers’ unstable environment expectations, thus affecting household consumption decisions. The paper established a consumption model though using the cointegration theory and ECM model, and used the annual data from 2002 to 2021 to examine the influence of uncertain expectations on the consumption behavior of rural residents in China. The research results show that consumers’ income, consumption, consumption habits liquidity constraints and precautionary savings jointly produce the feelings of uncertainty, which will lead to rural consumers’ uncertain expectations. Uncertain expectations will not only lead to rural residents the prudent consumption behavior of residents, but also lead to the lack of confidence of residents, forming phased consumption characteristics. Combining the results of the empirical analysis, this paper gives suggestions to promote rural consumption from the perspective of increasing rural residents’ income, reforming the income distribution system, improving the rural financial system, and reinforcing the construction of rural consumption infrastructure.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global health threat. Searching for anti-diabetic components from natural resources is of intense interest to scientists. Mushroom polysaccharides have received growing attention in anti-diabetes fields due to their advantages in broad resources, structure diversity, and multiple bioactivities, which are considered an unlimited source of healthy active components potentially applied in functional foods and nutraceuticals. In this review, the current knowledge about the roles of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of DM, the extraction method of mushroom polysaccharides, and their potential biological mechanisms associated with anti-diabetes, including antioxidant, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory, and gut microbiota modulatory actions, were summarized based on a variety of in vitro and in vivo studies, with aiming at better understanding the roles of mushroom polysaccharides in the prevention and management of DM and its complications. Finally, future perspectives including bridging the gap between the intervention of mushroom polysaccharides and the modulation of insulin signaling pathway, revealing structure-bioactivity of mushroom polysaccharides, developing synergistic foods, conducting well-controlled clinical trials that may be very helpful in discovering valuable mushroom polysaccharides and better applications of mushroom polysaccharides in diabetic control were proposed.

The gut microbiota dysbiosis is a state which the physiological combinations of flora are transformed into pathological combinations caused by factors such as diets, pollution, and drugs. Increasing evidence shows that dysbiosis is closely related to many diseases. With the continuous development and utilization of marine resources, marine polysaccharides have been found to regulate dysbiosis in many studies. In this review, we introduce the types of dysbiosis and the degree of it caused by different factors. We highlight the regulating effects of marine polysaccharides on dysbiosis as a potential prebiotic. The mechanisms of marine polysaccharides to regulate dysbiosis including protection of intestinal barrier, regulatory effect on gut microbiota, alteration for related metabolites, and some other possible mechanisms were summarized. And we aim to provide some references for the high-value utilization of marine polysaccharides and new targets for the treatment of gut microbiota dysbiosis by this review.

To significantly reduce sulfur oxides emissions from fossil fuel-powered ships, reduce air pollution in ports and slow ocean acidification, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has imposed the new 0.50%m/m limit (reduced from 3.50%m/m in the past) on sulphur in ships’ fuel oil. This has given rise to a host of issues regarding fuel replenishment operations, safe operation management, maritime regulation, and coordinated governance of air and climate. In response to ocean acidification and climate change, regulations on the use of low-sulfur oil or alternative fuels by ships greatly reduce sulfur oxide emissions, but have no significant impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, the refining process for low-sulfur fuels and the use of the gas cleaning system on ships both increase energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. To ensure the decarbonization process of shipping industry, there is an urgent need for a conceptual change in global ocean governance so as to promote the coordinated governance of air pollution and climate change. China’s conception of “a maritime community with a shared future” provides a new model for global ocean governance. The Chinese government has formulated regulations at different levels to promote the coordinated management of atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. Regarding supervision of sulfur oxide emissions from ships, this study proposes to build a multi-department collaborative supervision mechanism from marine fuel life cycle to enhance sulfur oxide monitoring and risk control capabilities. Specific measures of the proposed supervision mechanism include: the joint supervision of compliant fuel supply, the compliant fuel information disclosure platform, a joint law enforcement mechanism for atmospheric pollution, the ability of intelligent ship exhaust monitoring, and the construction of port power infrastructure.

Incipient fault detection in a hydraulic system is a challenge in the condition monitoring community. Existing research mainly monitors abnormal working conditions in hydraulic systems by separately detecting the key working parameter, which often causes a high miss warning rate for incipient faults due to the oversight of parameter dependence. A principal component analysis provides an effective method for incipient fault detection by taking the correlation of multiple parameters into consideration, but this technique assumes the systems are Gaussian-distributed, making it invalid for a dynamic non-Gaussian system. In this paper, we combine a canonical variable analysis (CVA) and adaptive kernel density estimation (AKDE) for the early fault detection of nonlinear dynamic hydraulic systems. The collected hydraulic system data set was used to construct the typical variable space, and the state space and residual space are divided to represent the characteristics of different correlations between the two variables, which are quantitatively described using Hotelling’s T2 and Q. In order to investigate the proper upper control limits, AKDE was utilised to estimate the underlying probability density functions of T2 and Q by taking the nonlinearity of the hydraulic system variables into consideration. The advantages of the proposed approach for incipient fault detection are illustrated via a marine power plant lubrication system.

Squeezed branch piles, which boast the advantages of great bearing capacity, small settlement, and good stability, are an important infrastructure in the foundation of buildings, and their safety state is related to the safety of the entire structure. As a non-destructive testing method, surface potential can be used to effectively evaluate the damaged state of a pile foundation without destroying its stability. On this basis, in this study, the characteristics of surface potential change during settlement and deformation of squeezed branch piles under graded loading were tested and analyzed with the aid of a self-made loading system of reaction beams and an LB-IV multi-channel potential data acquisition system. The results show that: Under graded loading, squeezed branch piles can produce surface potential signals whose intensity can well reflect the settlement and local failure characteristics of the pile foundation; The potential signals change in advance of load; and they fluctuate violently before local fracturing of squeezed branch piles. The unstable fluctuation of the potential signal can be regarded as a precursor to the fracturing of squeezed branch piles. The research results have positive theoretical significance and important application value for assessing the stability of both branch piles and their stress states on site and monitoring and forecasting the disaster of pile foundation instability.

Risk prediction tools are crucial for population-based management of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, most prediction models are currently used to assess long-term risk instead of the risk of short-term CVD onset. We developed a Dynamic Risk-based Early wArning Monitoring (DREAM) system using large-scale, real-time electronic health record data from 2010 to 2020 from the CHinese Electronic health Records Research in Yinzhou study. The dynamic risk scores were derived from a 1:5 matched nested case–control set comprising 70,470 individuals (11,745 CVD events) and then validated in a cohort of 81,205 individuals (5950 CVD events). The individuals were Chinese adults aged 40–79 years without a history of CVD at baseline. Eleven predictors related to vital signs, laboratory tests, and health service utilization were selected to establish the dynamic scores. The proposed scores were significantly associated with the subsequent CVD onset (adjusted odds ratio, 1.21; 95% confidence interval, 1.20–1.23). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) was 0.6010 (0.5929–0.6092) and 0.6021 (0.5937–0.6105) for the long-term 10-year CVD risk

In order to solve the problems of high labor intensity， difficulty in picking， and low efficiency of manual pineapple picking， a pineapple picking device based on crank slider， offset linear sliding rod and multi-link transmission mechanism is designed. The Adams is used to simulate and analyze the movement of the mechanism， and the parameters of each component of the device are optimized. The actual prototype has been tested， and the results show that the device is suitable for picking pineapples with a stem diameter of 3-6 cm. The test statistics show that the single picking time of the device is 1.2 s less than manual picking， and the efficiency is increased by 26%. The stationary motion of the device and the cutting stability of the tool are also verified.

In order to accelerate the development of new energy industry and social economy, this paper presents an empirical analysis of the role of new energy transformation in promoting China’s economy. On the basis of analyzing the concept and types of new energy, the necessity of transformation and upgrading of new energy industry is discussed. The new energy consumption data from 2010 to 2020 and China’s GDP data are selected as the basic data, and the MS-VAR model is used as the base model for the empirical analysis. The model combines the Markov zone transition model and the autoregressive model, which is suitable for analyzing non-linear problems. The results of the empirical analysis show that the new energy transition is an important way to promote new energy consumption, and it plays a role in promoting the balanced development of China’s economic growth. Combining the results of the empirical analysis, this paper gives suggestions related to the new energy transition from the institutional, economic and technological perspectives.

Cancer represents a serious concern for human life and health. Due to drug resistance and the easy metastasis of tumors, there is urgent need to develop new cancer treatment methods beyond the traditional radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgery. Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are a type of double-membrane vesicle secreted by Gram-negative bacteria in the process of growth and life, and play extremely important roles in the survival and invasion of those bacteria. In particular, OMVs contain a large number of immunogenic components associated with their parent bacterium, which can be used as vaccines, adjuvants, and vectors to treat diseases, especially in presenting tumor antigens or targeted therapy with small-molecule drugs. Some OMV-based vaccines are already on the market and have demonstrated good therapeutic effect on the corresponding diseases. OMV-based vaccines for cancer are also being studied, and some are already in clinical trials. This paper reviews bacterial outer membrane vesicles, their interaction with host cells, and their applications in tumor vaccines.

Background: Evidence for the association between long-term exposure to ozone (O3) and cause-specific cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality is inconclusive, and this association has rarely been evaluated at high O3 concentrations. Objectives: We aim to evaluate the associations between long-term O3 exposure and cause-specific CVD mortality in a Chinese population. Methods: From 2009 to 2018, 744,882 subjects (median follow-up of 7.72 years) were included in the CHinese Electronic health Records Research in Yinzhou (CHERRY) study. The annual average concentrations of O3 and fine particulate matter (PM2.5), which were estimated using grids with a resolution up to 1 × 1 km, were assigned to the community address for each subject. The outcomes were deaths from CVD, ischemic heart disease (IHD), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and hemorrhagic/ischemic stroke. Time-varying Cox model adjusted for PM2.5 and individual-level covariates was used. Results: The mean of annual average O3 concentrations was 68.05 μg/m3. The adjusted hazard ratio per 10 μg/m3 O3 increase was 1.22 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.13–1.33) for overall CVD mortality, 1.08 (0.91–1.29) for IHD, 1.21 (0.90–1.63) for MI, 1.28 (1.15–1.43) for overall stroke, 1.39 (1.16–1.67) for hemorrhagic stroke and 1.22 (1.00–1.49) for ischemic stroke, respectively. The study showed that subjects without hypertension had a higher risk for CVD mortality associated with long-term O3 exposure (1.66 vs. 1.15, p = 0.01). Conclusions: We observed the association between long-term exposure to high O3 concentrations and cause-specific CVD mortality in China, independent of PM2.5 and other CVD risk factors. This suggested an urgent need to control O3 pollution, especially in developing countries.

A low-clearance tunnel portal in the shallow-buried, joint-developed, broken, and loose surrounding rock slope deposit may cause safety issues during construction. In this study, the Guanyin Mountain Tunnel of the Chong-Ai expressway was taken as a case study, and the characteristics of the loose and broken surrounding rocks, their low clearance, and shallow buried bias were comprehensively studied. The three-dimensional numerical model of the Guanyin Mountain tunnel portal section was constructed by the Rhino, AutoCAD, and FLAC 3D software, and the whole construction process of the tunnel portal was simulated. Under the conditions of loose and broken surrounding rocks, the surrounding rock deformation, surface settlement, and slope stability at the portal of the shallow buried tunnel with a small clear distance during the construction of the center diaphragm (CD) method and circular reserved core soil method were studied. The following conclusions are drawn. During the simulated excavation of the tunnel, the maximum surface settlement is 10.74 mm, which meets the requirement of the specification. When the left tunnel is excavated, the surrounding rock deformation of the right arch shoulder should be carefully considered. The maximum deformation value can reach 14.314 mm. After excavation, the deformation rate of the right tunnel is large, and initial support should be installed in time. Since the stratum rock at the portal of the tunnel is strongly weathered, the uplift value of the arch bottom is large and gradually decreases along the axial direction. The tunnel arch bottom and arch foot are plastic areas prone to tensile damage. Therefore, it is imperative to strengthen the inverted arch support of the tunnel in the strongly weathered rock stratum. The excavation sequence of the tunnel portal section adopts the method of excavating the left tunnel first and then excavating the right tunnel, which is more conducive to ensuring the slope stability.

Abstract Background Cigarette smoke (CS) is a major risk factor for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Follistatin-like protein 1 (FSTL1), a critical factor during embryogenesis particularly in respiratory lung development, is a novel mediator related to inflammation and tissue remodeling. We tried to investigate the role of FSTL1 in CS-induced autophagy dysregulation, airway inflammation and remodeling. Methods Serum and lung specimens were obtained from COPD patients and controls. Adult female wild-type (WT) mice, FSTL1± mice and FSTL1flox/+ mice were exposed to room air or chronic CS. Additionally, 3-methyladenine (3-MA), an inhibitor of autophagy, was applied in CS-exposed WT mice. The lung tissues and serum from patients and murine models were tested for FSTL1 and autophagy-associated protein expression by ELISA, western blotting and immunohistochemical. Autophagosome were observed using electron microscope technology. LTB4, IL-8 and TNF-α in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of mice were examined using ELISA. Airway remodeling and lung function were also assessed. Results Both FSTL1 and autophagy biomarkers increased in COPD patients and CS-exposed WT mice. Autophagy activation was upregulated in CS-exposed mice accompanied by airway remodeling and airway inflammation. FSTL1± mice showed a lower level of CS-induced autophagy compared with the control mice. FSTL1± mice can also resist CS-induced inflammatory response, airway remodeling and impaired lung function. CS-exposed WT mice with 3-MA pretreatment have a similar manifestation with CS-exposed FSTL1± mice. Conclusions FSTL1 promotes CS-induced COPD by modulating autophagy, therefore targeting FSTL1 and autophagy may shed light on treating cigarette smoke-induced COPD.

This paper proposes combining an improved particle swarm optimization and Pareto archive algorithm to solve the multi-objective reactive power optimization problem. The idea of $\varepsilon $ -greedy strategy is adopted and designed to improve particle swarm optimization algorithm. It makes some particles have stronger global search capability, meanwhile, others have stronger local search capability during the whole iteration process. Henceforth, the strategy significantly explores the possibility of optimal solution in local space at the early stage of the iteration, in addition, it mitigates the tendency to fall into the local optimal solution at the later stage of the iteration. The Pareto optimal solution selection problem is solved by minimizing the sum of the difference between each objective function and its optimal solution. The proposed approach is tested on IEEE39-bus and IEEE118-bus system, and it is demonstrated that the proposed approach not only restores the nodes voltage to the normal range and achieves better value for each objective function, but also outperforms other algorithms including standard particle swarm optimization and non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II(NSGA-II).

The intrinsic factors that determine the fundamental traits of engraftment ability and multi-lineage potential of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) remain elusive. The induction of bona fade HSCs from pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) in dishes is urgently demanded but remains a great challenge in translational medicine. Runx1, Hoxa9, Hlf, and Hoxa7 are developmentally co-expressed during endothelial-to-hematopoietic transition and adult haematopoiesis. However, the expression of these factors fails to be turned on during in vitro hematopoietic induction from PSCs. Here, we established an inducible gene over-expression embryonic stem cell (ESC) line in which exogenous Runx1, Hoxa9, Hlf, and Hoxa7 genes were tandemly knocked in. A population of induced hematopoietic progenitor cells (iHPCs) expressing Kit and Sca1 surface markers were successfully obtained in vitro from the gene edited-ESC line. Upon transplantation of the Runx1-Hoxa9-Hlf-Hoxa7 ESC-derived iHPCs into irradiated immunodeficient mice, they can dominantly contribute to B cells, low proportions of T cells and myeloid cells. However, Runx1-Hoxa9-Hlf ESC-derived iHPCs only produced B lineage cells with extremely low contributions. Our study unveils that the coordination of Runx1, Hoxa9, Hlf, and Hoxa7 led to generation of the hematopoietic progenitors with the capacity of multi-lineage hematopoietic reconstitution in the immunodeficient recipient mice.
