Background Attention bias modification (ABM) , a newly emerging focus in emotion modification research, is a treatment to reduce individuals' attention bias toward negative stimuli to improve their abnormal cognition via repeated computer-based attention trainings toward neutral or positive stimuli. Recent studies about depression treated using ABM are increasing, but based on insufficient evidence with various efficacy assessment indicators. Objective To systematically assess the effect of ABM in patients with depression. Methods Databases including PubMed, The Cochrane Library, EMBase, CBM, CNKI, WanFang Data and VIP were searched from inception to December 31st, 2021 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding depressive patients treated by ABM (experimental group with computer-based ABM trainings) compared with placebo trainings under the same conditions (control group with no interventions or sham ABM trainings) . Primary outcome measures included Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD/HRSD) , Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) . Secondary outcome measures included the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-T) and Ruminative Responses Scale (RRS) . Two researchers independently performed literature enrollment, and extracted data, and evaluated the risk of bias using Risk of Bias 2 (RoB 2.0) tool. RevMan 5.4 and Stata 12.0 were used for Meta-analysis. Results Thirteen RCTs involving 968 patients were included, among which one had two trials. Risk of bias was low in seven RCTs, unclear in four, and high in two. Meta-analysis showed that the overall improvement of depression, anxiety and rumination in the experimental group was better than that in the control group (P0.05) . When the follow-up time was prolonged to at least two months, the mean BDI score was still similar in both groups (P>0.05) . Conclusion ABM treatment could improve depressive, anxiety symptom and rumination in patients with depression, but its long-term effect needs to be studied further.

Glaucoma is an irreversible blinding eye disease characterized by retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death.Previous studies have demonstrated that protecting mitochondria and activating the CaMKII/CREB signaling pathway can effectively protect RGC and axon. However, currently treatments are often unsatisfactory, and the pathogenesis of glaucoma requires further elucidation. In this study, a ROS‐responsive dual drug conjugate (OLN monomer) is first designed that simultaneously bonds nicotinamide and oleic acid. The conjugate self‐assembled into nanoparticles (uhOLN‐NPs) through the aggregation of multiple micelles and possesses ROS scavenging capability. Then, a polymer with a hypoxic response function is designed, which encapsulates uhOLN‐NPs to form nanoparticles with hypoxic and ROS responses (HOLN‐NPs). Under hypoxia in RGCs, the azo bond of HOLN‐NPs breaks and releases uhOLN‐NPs. Meanwhile, under high ROS conditions, the thioketone bond broke, leading to the dissociation of nano‐prodrug. The released nicotinamide and oleic acid co‐scavenge ROS and activate the CaMKII/CREB pathway, protecting mitochondria in RGCs. HOLN‐NPs exhibit a significantly superior protective effect on R28 cells in glutamate models of glaucoma. The accumulation of HOLN‐NPs in retinal RGCs lead to significant inhibition of RGC apoptosis and axonal damage in vivo. SUMMARY: Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is a globally staple crop vulnerable to various fungal diseases, significantly impacting its yield. Plant cell surface receptors play a crucial role in recognizing pathogen‐associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and activating PAMP‐triggered immunity, boosting resistance against a wide range of plant diseases. Although the role of plant chitin receptor CERK1 in immune recognition and defense has been established in Arabidopsis and rice, its function and potential agricultural applications in enhancing resistance to crop diseases remain largely unexplored. Here, we identify and characterize TaCERK1 in Triticeae crop wheat, uncovering its involvement in chitin recognition, immune regulation, and resistance to fungal diseases. By a comparative analysis of CERK1 homologs in Arabidopsis and monocot crops, we demonstrate that AtCERK1 in Arabidopsis elicits the most robust immune response. Moreover, we show that overexpressing TaCERK1 and AtCERK1 in wheat confers resistance to multiple fungal diseases, including Fusarium head blight, stripe rust, and powdery mildew. Notably, transgenic wheat lines with moderately expressed AtCERK1 display superior disease resistance and heightened immune responses without adversely affecting growth and yield, compared to TaCERK1 overexpression transgenics. Our findings highlight the significance of plant chitin receptors across diverse plant species and suggest potential strategies for bolstering crop resistance against broad‐spectrum diseases in agricultural production through the utilization of plant immune receptors. Significance Statement: CERK1 acts as a chitin immune receptor for plant defense and survival, but its role and applied potential in Triticeae crops remain unknown. We identify TaCERK1 in wheat, revealing distinct characteristics of CERK1 homologs in chitin recognition and immune activation between cereals and the dicot Arabidopsis. Notably, overexpressing CERK1s from both cereal and Arabidopsis in wheat confers broad‐spectrum resistance to fungal diseases. Increasing prevalence and cost of glaucoma have increased the demand for surgeons well trained in newer, microincisional surgery. These procedures occur in a highly confined space, making them difficult to learn by observation or assistance alone as is currently done. We hypothesized that our ex vivo outflow model is sensitive enough to allow computing individual learning curves to quantify progress and refine techniques. Seven trainees performed nine trabectome-mediated ab interno trabeculectomies in pig eyes (n = 63). An expert surgeon rated the procedure using an Operating Room Score (ORS). The extent of outflow beds accessed was measured with canalograms. Data was fitted using mixed effect models. ORS reached a half-maximum on an asymptote after only 2.5 eyes. Surgical time decreased by 1.4 minutes per eye in a linear fashion. The ablation arc followed an asymptotic function with a half-maximum inflection point after 5.3 eyes. Canalograms revealed that this progress did not correlate well with improvement in outflow, suggesting instead that about 30 eyes are needed for true mastery. This inexpensive pig eye model provides a safe and effective microsurgical training model and allows objective quantification of outcomes for the first time.

PurposeTo compare intraoperative angle stability and postoperative outflow of two ab interno trabeculectomy devices that excise the trabecular meshwork with or without active aspiration and irrigation. We hypothesized that anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) allows for a quantitative comparison of intraoperative angle stability in a microincisional glaucoma surgery (MIGS) pig eye training model.MethodsTwelve freshly enucleated porcine eyes were measured with AS-OCT at baseline, at the beginning of the procedure and at its conclusion to determine the anterior chamber depth (ACD) and the nasal angle α in degrees. The right and left eye of pairs were randomly assigned to an active dual blade goniectome (aDBG) and a passive dual blade goniectome (pDBG) group, respectively. The aDBG had irrigation and aspiration ports while the pDBG required surgery under viscoelastic. We performed the procedures using our MIGS training system with a standard, motorized ophthalmic operating microscope. We estimated outflow by obtaining canalograms with fluorescent spheres.ResultsIn aDBG, the nasal angle remained wide open during the procedure at above 90° and did not change towards the end (100±10%, p = 0.9).
