51. A Heckman selection model for the safety analysis of signalized intersections.

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to provide a new method for estimating crash rate and severity simultaneously.This study explores a Heckman selection model of the crash rate and severity simultaneously at different levels and a two-step procedure is used to investigate the crash rate and severity levels. The first step uses a probit regression model to determine the sample selection process, and the second step develops a multiple regression model to simultaneously evaluate the crash rate and severity for slight injury/kill or serious injury (KSI), respectively. The model uses 555 observations from 262 signalized intersections in the Hong Kong metropolitan area, integrated with information on the traffic flow, geometric road design, road environment, traffic control and any crashes that occurred during two years.The results of the proposed two-step Heckman selection model illustrate the necessity of different crash rates for different crash severity levels.A comparison with the existing approaches suggests that the Heckman selection model offers an efficient and convenient alternative method for evaluating the safety performance at signalized intersections.

Abstract

Long Term Evolution (LTE) random access preambles are generated from cyclically shifted Zadoff-Chu(ZC) sequences of prime length by using so-called Discrete Fourier Transformation-Spread-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DFT-S-OFDM) modulation. In this paper we propose a novel preamble generation to reduce the storage and complexity of cyclically shifted ZC sequences’ Discrete Fourier Transformation (DFT). The proposed preamble generation allows the DFT of cyclically shifted ZC sequences to rely only on several constant factors and the elements of non-cyclically shifted ZC sequences which have already been generated. This preamble generation merely requires the storage of several constant factors, while avoids large storage and complex computation of complex exponential function.

Abstract

Although disinfection is key to infection control, the colonization patterns and resistomes of hospital-environment microbes remain underexplored. We report the first extensive genomic characterization of microbiomes, pathogens and antibiotic resistance cassettes in a tertiary-care hospital, from repeated sampling (up to 1.5 years apart) of 179 sites associated with 45 beds. Deep shotgun metagenomics unveiled distinct ecological niches of microbes and antibiotic resistance genes characterized by biofilm-forming and human-microbiome-influenced environments with corresponding patterns of spatiotemporal divergence. Quasi-metagenomics with nanopore sequencing provided thousands of high-contiguity genomes, phage and plasmid sequences (>60% novel), enabling characterization of resistome and mobilome diversity and dynamic architectures in hospital environments. Phylogenetics identified multidrug-resistant strains as being widely distributed and stably colonizing across sites. Comparisons with clinical isolates indicated that such microbes can persist in hospitals for extended periods (>8 years), to opportunistically infect patients. These findings highlight the importance of characterizing antibiotic resistance reservoirs in hospitals and establish the feasibility of systematic surveys to target resources for preventing infections.

99. Polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols from Hypericum sampsonii with cytotoxicity against pancreatic carcinomas.

Abstract

Chemical investigation on the 80% EtOH extract of the air dried aerial parts of Hypericum sampsonii resulted in the isolation of two new polycyclic polyprenylated derivatives, hypersampines A and B (1 and 2). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic data (NMR, IR, and UV) and high resolution mass analysis. The two isolated polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols were tested in vitro for cytotoxic activities against 6 pancreatic cell lines. As a result, compounds 1 and 2 possessed modest cytotoxic activities against all the tested tumor cell lines with IC50 values less than 40 μM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
