The switching/sucrose non-fermenting (SWI/SNF) chromatin remodeling complexes use the energy of ATP hydrolysis to remodel nucleosomes and modulate transcription, which plays an important role in tumors by regulating epigenetics. SWI/SNF Related, Matrix Associated, Actin Dependent Regulator of Chromatin, Subfamily C, Member 1 (SMARCC1) has dual roles in tumors but its role in gastric cancer remains unclear. This study was aimed to find the role of SMARCC1 in gastric cancer. SMARCC1 expression across various tumors from The Cancer Genome Atlas was analyzed using TIMER 2.0 (http://timer.comp-genomics.org/). SMARCC1 mRNA expression profiles in gastric cell lines and gastric tissues were compared with normal tissues and analyzed in the Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia, Oncomine, and Gene Expression Omnibus databases. SMARCC1 mRNA and protein were then examined in fresh gastric cancer tissues and compared with adjacent normal tissues using quantitative real-time PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry. Associations between SMARCC1 expression and clinicopathological factors, overall survival, and disease-free survival were further evaluated using 130 gastric cancer samples harvested from patients after radical total gastrectomy or subtotal gastrectomy at the Xiangya Hospital of Central South University (Changsha, China). SMARCC1 was frequently upregulated in gastric cancer cells and tissues. SMARCC1 overexpression was significantly associated with tumor size (P=0.002), differentiation (P=0.006), depth of invasion (P=0.001), lymph node involvement (P=0.016), and TNM stage (P=0.007). Furthermore, univariate and multivariate Cox analysis revealed that high SMARCC1 expression, depth invasion, lymph node involvement, and TNM stage were independent risk factors for both overall and disease-free survival in gastric cancer patients (all P<0.05). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that high SMARCC1 expression predicted poor prognosis in gastric cancer patients (P<0.01). High SMARCC1 expression contributes to poor prognosis in gastric cancer patients. Anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) is a rare subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Primary gastric anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) negative ALCL is extremely rare. Diagnosis of primary gastric ALK-negative ALCL is difficult to establish and prognosis is worse than ALK-positive ALCL. Here, we report a case of an 82-year-old man with a history of cerebrovascular disease presented with weakness and iron deficiency anemia. He denied any abdominal discomforts. The esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a large ulcerated, friable mass in the gastric body which encompassed about 80% of entire stomach. Biopsy showed a high grade malignant tumor composed of undifferentiated epithelioid atypical cells, making it difficult to determine the cell of origin. Immunostains for lymphoma, carcinoma, and sarcoma were performed. The tumor cells were positive for CD30, CD4, and CD43, negative for CD20, CD3, ALK-1 and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded small RNAs (EBERs) in situ hybridization, establishing the diagnosis of primary gastric ALK-negative ALCL. The patient is currently undergoing chemotherapy with clinical improvement. Objective: To explore the predictive factors of sensitivity to preoperative concomitant radiochemotherapy for the local mid-low advanced rectal cancer in order to guide the individualized therapy., Methods: Clinicopathologic data of 44 patients with local mid-low advanced rectal cancer receiving preoperational concomitant radiochemotherapy were retrospectively analyzed. Expression of epidemical growth factor receptor (EGFR) in biopsy specimen was detected with SP immunohistochemistry (IHC). Downstaging of tumor TNM stage and tumor regression grade (TRG) after radiochemotherapy were used as the standards of sensitivity to preoperational concomitant radiochemotherapy. Association of EGFR expression and pathological change with clinicopathological data before radiochemotherapy (gender, age, pathological type, tumor TNM stage, serum CEA, CA199, radiation method, etc) was analyzed., Results: Percentage of downstaging of tumor TNM stage and 3-4 TRG in patients with negative or weak positive EGFR expression was significantly higher as compared to those with strong and moderate positive EGFR expression [86.7% (13/15) vs. 30.4% (7/23), P<0.01; 80.0% (12/15) vs. 8.7% (2/23), P<0.01]. Percentage of downstaging of tumor TNM stage and 3-4 TRG in patients with tubular adenocarcinoma was significantly higher as compared to those with mucous adenocarcinoma [61.8% (21/34) vs. 10.0% (1/10), P<0.01; 47.1 (16/34) vs. 0 (0/10), P<0.01]. EGFR expression was not associated with pathological type (P>0.05). Sensitivity to preoperative concomitant radiochemotherapy was not associated with age, gender, tumor stage, tumor differentiation, serum CEA, serum CA199 and radiation method (all P>0.05)., Conclusions: Pathological type and EGFR expression level may be two independent predictive markers of sensitivity to preoperative concomitant radiochemotherapy for patients with rectal cancer. Patients with tubular adenocarcinoma or low EGFR expression in tumor tissue may be more sensitive to concomitant radiochemotherapy.

Macaca thibetana is a threatened primate species endemic to China. Genetic diversities based on a 476-bp fragment at the 5'-end of the mitochondrial DNA control region HVSI were assessed. Haplotype diversity is high (0.8521), but nucleotide diversity among all haplotypes is only 0.0574. No haplotype was shared between Sichuan (SC) and Huangshan Mountain (HS) populations. Phylogenetic trees, analysis of molecular variance and network analysis consistently indicated that the SC and HS populations are significantly different. They should therefore be conserved as different units, with priority and more attention given to the HS populations.

In 2003-2004, a field investigation was made on the composition of butterfly community in the Houhe National Nature Reserve of Hubei Province, and the diversity, evenness and dominance of the community on the levels of family, genus and species in spring, summer and autumn were studied by the method of alpha-diversity. The results showed that the species richness, diversity, and dominance indices were the highest in summer, while the evenness index wasthe highest in spring. Nymphalidae was the highest in richness at the level of families, with the value of 32.
