Abstract

LiTaSiO5 system is considered as type of solid electrolyte with great potential for application as ionic conductor. It is well-known that it is difficult to obtain pure dense LiTaSiO5 phase by traditional synthesis methods, because dielectric LiTaO3 phase easily precipitates during synthesis, which affects ionic conductivity. In this work, a glass-ceramic electrolyte with main LiTaSiO5 phase was obtained by controlled crystallization of Li2OTa 2O5-2 SiO2 glass without porosity. The precipitation of LiTaO3 phase at the grain boundary was effectively inhibited by adding an appropriate amount of ZrO2. Among all the glass-ceramic samples, the glass containing 4.76mol% ZrO2 had the maximum ionic conductivity of 8.40 × 10−6 S/cm at 25°C, which is two order of magnitude greater than the ionic conductivity of the matrix glass. These glass-ceramic samples have the potential to be used as solid electrolytes in electrochemical applications.

Abstract

BaNi$_2$As$_2$ is a nonmagnetic analogue of the iron pnictide superconductors, and in its tetragonal state exhibits an incommensurate charge-density-wave (IC-CDW) and a sizable elastoresistance. In this work, phonons in BaNi$_2$As$_2$ associated with the IC-CDW and uniform in-plane lattice distortions are investigated using high-resolution inelastic X-ray scattering. The in-plane transverse acoustic phonons reveal no softening at temperatures where the elastoresistance increases strongly, indicating the latter to be electronically driven. Systematic phonon measurements reveal the IC-CDW occurs in two stages upon cooling: underdamped phonons first soften to zero energy well above the IC-CDW ordering temperature, then the resulting quasielastic IC-CDW fluctuations gradually slow down and coalesce into the static IC-CDW order. A possible origin for our observations is the IC-CDW in tetragonal BaNi$_2$As$_2$ being uniaxial, which provides an additional Ising degree of freedom favorable for disordered IC-CDW modulations, and accounts for the elastoresistance through a weak coupling to the lattice., Comment: Supplemental Materials available upon request

Abstract

Antiferromagnetic spintronics is an emerging area of quantum technologies that leverage the coupling between spin and orbital degrees of freedom in exotic materials. Spin-orbit interactions allow spin or angular momentum to be injected via electrical stimuli to manipulate the spin texture of a material, enabling the storage of information and energy. In general, the physical process is intrinsically local: spin is carried by an electrical current, imparted into the magnetic system, and the spin texture will then rotate in the region of current flow. In this study, we show that spin information can be transported and stored "non-locally" in the material FexNbS2. We propose that collective modes can manipulate the spin texture away from the flowing current, an effect amplified by strong magnetoelastic coupling of the ordered state. This suggests a novel way to store and transport spin information in strongly spin-orbit coupled magnetic systems.

Abstract

Abstract Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have achieved impressive performance in data synthesis and have driven the development of many applications. However, GANs are known to be hard to train due to their bilevel objective, which leads to the problems of convergence, mode collapse, and gradient vanishing. In this paper, we propose a new generative model called the generative adversarial NTK (GA-NTK) that has a single-level objective. The GA-NTK keeps the spirit of adversarial learning (which helps generate plausible data) while avoiding the training difficulties of GANs. This is done by modeling the discriminator as a Gaussian process with a neural tangent kernel (NTK-GP) whose training dynamics can be completely described by a closed-form formula. We analyze the convergence behavior of GA-NTK trained by gradient descent and give some sufficient conditions for convergence. We also conduct extensive experiments to study the advantages and limitations of GA-NTK and propose some techniques that make GA-NTK more practical.

Abstract

Layered transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) host a plethora of interesting physical phenomena ranging from charge order to superconductivity. By introducing magnetic ions into 2H-TA2 (T=Nb, Ta; A=S, Se), the material forms a family of magnetic intercalated TMDCs MxTA2 (M=3d transition metal). Recently, Fe1/3+δNbS2 has been found to possess intriguing resistance switching and magnetic memory effects coupled to the Néel temperature of TN∼45 K [Maniv et al., Nat. Phys. 17, 525 (2021)NPAHAX1745-247310.1038/s41567-020-01123-w; Sci. Adv. 7, eabd8452 (2021)SACDAF2375-254810.1126/sciadv.abd8452]. We present comprehensive single crystal neutron diffraction measurements on underintercalated (δ∼-0.01), stoichiometric, and overintercalated (δ∼0.01) samples. Magnetic defects are usually considered to suppress magnetic correlations and, concomitantly, transition temperatures. Instead, we observe highly tunable magnetic long-ranged states as the Fe concentration is varied from underintercalated to overintercalated, that is, from Fe vacancies to Fe interstitials. The under- and overintercalated samples reveal distinct antiferromagnetic stripe and zigzag orders, associated with wave vectors k1=(0.5,0,0) and k2=(0.25,0.5,0), respectively. The stoichiometric sample shows two successive magnetic phase transitions for these two wave vectors with an unusual rise-and-fall feature in the intensities connected to k1. We ascribe this sensitive tunability to the competing next-nearest neighbor exchange interactions and the oscillatory nature of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida mechanism. We discuss experimental observations that relate to the observed intriguing switching resistance behaviors. Our discovery of a magnetic defect tuning of the magnetic structure in bulk crystals Fe1/3+δNbS2 provides a possible new avenue to implement controllable antiferromagnetic spintronic devices.

Abstract

Semantic parsing is challenging due to the structure gap and the semantic gap between utterances and logical forms. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised semantic parsing method - Synchronous Semantic Decoding (SSD), which can simultaneously resolve the semantic gap and the structure gap by jointly leveraging paraphrasing and grammar constrained decoding. Specifically, we reformulate semantic parsing as a constrained paraphrasing problem: given an utterance, our model synchronously generates its canonical utterance and meaning representation. During synchronous decoding: the utterance paraphrasing is constrained by the structure of the logical form, therefore the canonical utterance can be paraphrased controlledly; the semantic decoding is guided by the semantics of the canonical utterance, therefore its logical form can be generated unsupervisedly. Experimental results show that SSD is a promising approach and can achieve competitive unsupervised semantic parsing performance on multiple datasets., Comment: Accepted by ACL 2021
