Abstract

Simple Summary: The Hippo signaling pathway, an evolutionarily conserved cascade, plays a crucial role in regulating organ size, tissue regeneration, and tumorigenesis. The dysregulation of this pathway leads to the activation and nuclear translocation of YAP/TAZ, the pivotal downstream regulators. The Hippo-YAP/TAZ pathway promotes cell proliferation and tumorigenesis, notably in primary liver cancer. The Hippo-YAP/TAZ cascade has emerged as a significant therapeutic target in liver cancer. This review provides a comprehensive summary of recent advances in the Hippo-YAP/TAZ signaling pathway in primary liver cancer, highlighting its therapeutic potential as a target for intervention. Liver cancer imposes a pervasive global health challenge, ranking among the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Its prevalence and mortality rates are on a concerning upward trajectory and exacerbated by the dearth of efficacious treatment options. The Hippo signaling pathway, originally discovered in Drosophila, comprises the following four core components: MST1/2, WW45, MOB1A/B, and LATS1/2. This pathway regulates the cellular localization of the transcriptional coactivator Yes-associated protein/transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (YAP/TAZ) through a series of enzymatic reactions. The Hippo-YAP/TAZ pathway maintains a balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis, regulates tissue and organ sizes, and stabilizes the internal environment. Abnormalities of any genes within the Hippo signaling pathway, such as deletion or mutation, disturb the delicate balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis, creating a favorable condition for tumor initiation and progression. Mutations or epigenetic alterations in the Hippo signaling pathway components can lead to its inactivation. Consequently, YAP/TAZ becomes overexpressed and activated, promoting excessive cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis. This dysregulation is closely associated with the development of liver cancer. This review discusses the pivotal role of the Hippo signaling pathway in the pathogenesis and progression of liver cancer. Abstract

Molybdenum (IV) sulfide is widely employed in electronic device applications. Recognized as one of the most efficacious methods for fabricating high-quality molybdenum (IV) sulfide, the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method's application necessitates the development of a straightforward, swift and nondestructive characterization tool. Thus, this paper presents a rapid and reliable differential reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) instrumentation, grounded on the optical microscope, capable of characterizing two-dimensional materials prepared by CVD. This universal nondestructive identification tool facilitates the investigation of two-dimensional materials on both opaque and transparent substrates. MoS2 samples prepared by CVD were characterized on SiO2/Si and sapphire substrate. The results indicate that the exciton absorption peak can be accurately identified, validating the instrumentation's utility for material detection and monolayer identification. The characterization results, corroborated by the Raman spectra with a wavenumber difference of approximately 20 cm−1 and the triangular appearance of the optical image, affirm the application of this instrumentation. Ultimately, the DRS instrumentation provides a swift and nondestructive route to characterize physical properties such as bandgap and optical properties for two-dimensional materials. 60. Validity Evidence Based on Internal Structure of Scores of the Emotional Quotient Inventory: Youth Version Short (EQ-i: YV-S) in a Chinese Sample

Abstract

Given the lack of any Chinese instrument validated for emotional intelligence (EI) among adolescents, the purpose of this study was to explore new sources of validity evidence drawn from scores on the Emotional Quotient Inventory: Youth Version Short (EQ-i: YV-S) in a sample of Chinese adolescents. The sample was composed of 406 adolescents (236 girls). Results support the multidimensionality of the EQ-i: YV-S, but its hierarchical structure did not receive empirical support. Three of the four main subscales (all but "interpersonal") had acceptable reliability indices. In addition, although the impact of the Positive Impression subscale on responses to the main scales was generally low, the effect is not ignorable, and its impact should be modeled in further investigations of the EQ-i: YV-S. Finally, four main subscales of EQ-i: YV-S showed significant power in the prediction of general self-concept and moderate temporal stability. The findings provide overall support for the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of EQ-i: YV-S.

Abstract

Highly accurate sample drift correction is essential in super-resolution localization microscopy to guarantee a high spatial resolution, especially when the technique is used to visualize small cell organelle. Here we present a localization events-based drift correction method using a redundant cross-correlation algorithm originally developed to correct beam-induced motion in cryo-electron microscopy. With simulated, synthesized as well as experimental data, we have demonstrated its superior precision compared to previously published localization events-based drift correction methods. The major advantage of this method is the robustness when the number of localization events is low, either because a short correction time step is required or because the imaged structure is small and sparse. This method has allowed us to improve the effective resolution when imaging Golgi apparatus in mammalian cells.

Abstract

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy is a nondestructive technique extensively employed in various fields. Despite its advantages, near-infrared spectroscopy still faces significant challenges due to the intricate physical and chemical phenomena that arise from the interaction between light and matter. This interaction typically results in light absorption and scattering, leading to the NIR signal containing comprehensive information about these phenomena's interactions. Accurate determination of CaCO 3 , SiO 2 , Fe 2 O 3 and Al 2 O 3 in cement raw meal requires minimizing scattering effects from the spectrum, but selecting an appropriate pretreatment technique is often challenging. In this paper, we enhance the predictive ability of NIRS for determining the four oxides in cement raw meal by implementing sequential preprocessing through orthogonalization (SPORT). The SPORT method uses sequential orthogonal partial least squares (SO-PLS) to integrate data blocks obtained from different preprocessing techniques. We compare our method with conventional pretreatment methods for determining the content of four oxides in raw materials of cement using near-infrared spectroscopy. The results suggest that the SPORT method exhibits commendable calibration performance and distinctive characteristics. Moreover, SPORT demonstrates significant preprocessing selectivity, making it effective in addressing the challenges associated with complex interactions in near-infrared spectral analysis. In conclusion, the utilization of SPORT sequential pretreatment in near-infrared spectroscopy shows promising results for enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of determining oxide content in raw materials of cement. The findings of this study help promote the application of near-infrared spectroscopy in the cement industry, especially quality control. Abstract

Background: Modelling academic self‐concept through second‐order factors or bifactor structures is an important issue with substantive and practical implications; besides, the bifactor model has not been analysed with a Chinese sample and cross‐cultural studies in the academic self‐concept are scarce. Likewise, latent structure validity evidence using network psychometrics has not been carried out. Aims: The aim of this study is twofold: to analyse (1) the internal structure of ASC through the Self‐Description Questionnaire II‐Short (SDQII‐S) in Chinese and Spanish samples using two approaches, structural equation modelling and network psychometrics conducting an exploratory graph analysis; and (2) the measurement invariance of the best model across countries and investigate the cross‐cultural differences in ASC. Sample: The sample was composed by 651 adolescents. Seven models of ASC were tested. Results: Results supported the multi‐dimensional nature of the data as well as the reliability. The best‐fitted model for the two subsamples was the three‐factor ESEM model, but only the configural invariance of this model was supported across countries. The graph function shows that the school dimension appears more related to the verbal factor in the Spanish subsample and to the math dimension in the Chinese subsample. Likewise, the relationship between verbal and math factors in Spanish students is non‐existent, but this connection is more relevant for Chinese students. Conclusion: These two differences may be behind the difficulty in finding invariance using SEM models. 95. A Highly Efficient Photocatalyst Based on Layered g-C3N4/SnS2 Composites

Abstract

Background: In this report, the layered g-C3N4/SnS2 composite was successfully fabricated by a facile hydrothermal route. Methods: The ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy data presented that such layered g-C3N4/SnS2 catalysts showed a remarkable visible-light absorption, hence significantly enhancing the catalytic activity. Particularly, the g-C3N4/SnS2 catalysts showed an outstanding catalytic performance for the degradation of methylene blue (~ 98.1%) under visible light irradiation that is much better than that of pure SnS2 (~ 86.7%) and pure g-C3N4 (~ 67.3%). Results: The remarkable photocatalytic performance is ascribed to its layer structure resulting in a large surface area, which not only improves the ion transfer rate but also provides abundant surface reaction sites. Conclusion: Our work demonstrates that the layered g-C3N4/SnS2 can be considered as an exceptional candidate for a highly-efficient photocatalyst.

Abstract

Previous studies suggest that SRPK1 (serine/arginine-rich protein-specific kinase 1) is involved in tumorigenesis and closely related to unfavorable outcomes. However, its expression pattern in cervical squamous cell carcinoma (CESC) remains uncovered. In this study, we initially investigated the clinical significance and function of SRPK1 in human CESC. Data mining and analysis on SRPK1 mRNA expression in CESC samples were conducted using TCGA database, which indicated that SRPK1 mRNA was significantly upregulated in CESC samples. Protein expression of SRPK1 was tested by immunohistochemistry in a retrospective cohort (n = 122), revealing a higher SRPK1 protein abundance in CESC specimens whose aberrant up-regulation was obviously related to worse survival. Cox proportional hazards regression analysis further confirmed the role of SRPK1 as an independent prognostic factor of CESC. Cellular experiments validated that SRPK1 may function through enhancing CESC proliferation, migration, and invasion. In conclusion, aberrant up-regulation of SRPK1 is remarkably related to progression and unfavorable prognosis of CESC, which can serve as a novel prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for CESC.
