Abstract

This paper studies how to achieve the maximal link throughputs in a CSMA wireless network through offered-load control. First, we propose an analytical model, contention-graph-combination (CGC), to describe the relationship between the offered-load and the output link throughputs of an unsaturated CSMA network. Based on CGC, we then formulate a linear optimization model to improve the aggregate link throughput through properly setting the occurrence probabilities of each sub-network, based on which we can obtain the optimal offered-load of each link. Simulation results bore out the accuracy of our CGC analysis and the maximal link throughputs can be closely achieved. Different from prior work in which CSMA protocol parameters are adaptively adjusted to achieve better performance, in this paper we propose to achieve maximal link throughputs by adjusting the rates of the traffic pumped into the source nodes of links, which runs in a software manner and is more practical to implement in real networks.

Abstract

The general Bandpass-$B$ problem is NP-hard and can be approximated by a reduction into the weighted $B$-set packing problem, with a worst case performance ratio of $O(B^2)$. When $B = 2$, a maximum weight matching gives a 2-approximation to the problem. In this paper, we call the Bandpass-2 problem simply the Bandpass problem. The Bandpass problem can be viewed as a variation of the maximum traveling salesman problem, in which the edge weights are dynamic rather than given at the front. We present a ${426}{227}$-approximation algorithm for the problem. Such an improved approximation is built on an intrinsic structural property proven for the optimal solution and several novel schemes to partition a $b$-matching into desired matchings.

Abstract

The size effects on the mechanical properties and defect evolution process of single crystal aluminum with a center crack under tensile loading have been simulated through molecular dynamic method. With the increase of model size, the yield stress and yield point decreased, while the fracture toughness increased. In the elastic stage, the deformation relies heavily on the point defects and surface defects in materials, while in plastic stage it depends strongly on the dislocation multiplication and its slip. The stress concentration at the crack tip is mainly associated with the phase transformation of the crystal structure near the crack tip due to the stress relaxation after phase transformation.

Abstract

In this paper, the quasi-static tensile tests and the dynamic compression tests of 20 CrMnTi were carried out using the tensile tester and Split Hopkinson pressure bar（SHPB） device at different strain rate to study the dynamic stress response of 20 CrMnTi steel. The results show that 20 CrMnTi steel has strain rate effect and plasticizing effect. But it is not very sensitive to strain rate change within the scope of dynamic compression experiment. In consideration of the adiabatic temperature rise, the Johnson-Cook constitutive model is modified. The results show that the revised Johnson-Cook constitutive model can well describe the mechanical performance of 20 CrMnTi under the dynamic impact load, which is important to reference value that 20 CrMnTi steel is applied under high speed and overload.

Abstract

The problem of finding a center string that is `close' to every given string arises and has many applications in computational biology and coding theory. This problem has two versions: the Closest String problem and the Closest Substring problem. Assume that we are given a set of strings ${\cal S}=\{s_1, s_2, ..., s_n\}$ of strings, say, each of length $m$. The Closest String problem asks for the smallest $d$ and a string $s$ of length $m$ which is within Hamming distance $d$ to each $s_i\in {\cal S}$. This problem comes from coding theory when we are looking for a code not too far away from a given set of codes. The problem is NP-hard. Berman et al give a polynomial time algorithm for constant $d$. For super-logarithmic $d$, Ben-Dor et al give an efficient approximation algorithm using linear program relaxation technique. The best polynomial time approximation has ratio 4/3 for all $d$ given by Lanctot et al and Gasieniec et al. The Closest Substring problem looks for a string $t$ which is within Hamming distance $d$ away from a substring of each $s_i$. This problem only has a $2- \frac{2}{2|\Sigma|+1}$ approximation algorithm previously Lanctot et al and is much more elusive than the Closest String problem, but it has many applications in finding conserved regions, genetic drug target identification, and genetic probes in molecular biology. Whether there are efficient approximation algorithms for both problems are major open questions in this area. We present two polynomial time approxmation algorithms with approximation ratio $1+ \epsilon$ for any small $\epsilon$ to settle both questions.

The study on deformation and failure mechanism of materials,and the progressof NEMS/MEMStechnology and biotechnologypromote the development of multi-scale analysis method. However,Multi-scale connectionisthe key of multi-scale model. The finite element method（ FEM） and molecular dynamics simulation（ MD） were combined to simulate the multi-scale models,and the stress intensity factors（ SIF） and displacement mechanics parameters were adopted to connect and convertthecontinuum region and discrete molecular dynamics region,then three multi-scale model of two-dimensional silver crack propagationwasestablished to obtain the crack tip trajectory and the micro-scale crackpropagationprocess. The result is in good agreement with theory and experiment,and proves the rationality of the method.

Abstract

To obtain the dynamic fracture toughness of 20 Cr Mn Ti,an impact loading test was conducted on three-point bending specimens with the improved Hopkinson pressure bar.Dynamic stress intensity factor was determined by the spring mass model.The onset time of crack initiation is experimentally detected using the strain gauge method.Dynamic fracture toughness of20 Cr Mn Ti with type I crack was obtained through the above experimental procedure.The geometrical dispersion distortion caused by lateral inertia effect is effectively inhibited by the wave shaping technique,to ensure the consistency of stress wave signal in measuring point and loading point is guaranteed.At the same time,the high-speed camera system was used to collect the image and the change of the surface strain field during the loading process was analyzed with GOM Correlate.The results show that samples before crack initiation has reached the dynamic strain balance,ensure the validity of the experiment.

Abstract

In this paper, we establish the global existence and uniqueness of regular solutions to the Cauchy problem for the reduced gravity two-and-a-half layer model with large data in 1-D. In view of the singular structure of this model, we introduce some new variables, combining with the Bresch-Desjardins entropy estimates and the transport properties of $ X_i = u_i+\frac{\partial_xh_i}{h_i} $ to obtain the required uniform a priori estimates. Moreover, the regular solution $ (h_i,u_i) $ satisfies that $ h_i>0 $ for all point $ x\in\mathbb{R} $ but decays to zero in the far field, and we also give the proof for the non-existence of global regular solutions with $ L^\infty(\mathbb{R}) $ decay on $ u_i $. These results are inspired by Cao, Li and Zhu [SIAM J. Math. Anal., 54(2022), pp. 4658-4694], and generalize previous results on global strong solutions with positive lower bounds on the initial data $ h_i^0 $. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
