55. Geological occurrence and productivity prediction for coalbed methane of central Hunan depression, China

Abstract

To analyze the geological occurrence and predict the drainage performance of coalbed methane in the central Hunan depression of China, coal samples were collected to conduct physical experiments and numerical simulations. The following conclusions were reached. The vitrinite ranges from 54.37 to 87.80%, the inertinite is between 11.14–25.89%, and exinite is less than 1%. The inorganic components are mainly clay minerals and vary from 0.71 to 5.66%. The major porosity ranges from 7 to 9%, and it is influenced by organic/inorganic components and maturity. Both the vertical and horizontal permeabilities are at a relatively low level, mostly below 0.05 mD, indicating the reservoir is low permeable or non-permeable. The reservoir pressure ranges from 3.74 to 11.58 MPa, which has significant and positive linear correlations with closure pressure and burial depth. Gas content varies from 5 m3/t to 20 m3/t. The theoretical recovery ratio in the Hongshandian mining area is about 61.7%, while the values of the two spots in the Duanpiqiao mining area are 49.1 and 54.5%. Production predictions show that under the permeability of 0.01 mD, 0.05 mD, and 0.10 mD, cumulative gas productions in 10 years for a single well range from 1.7 × 106 m3 to 3.2 × 106 m3, and those for a well group consisting of five wells vary from 10.5 × 106 m3 to 19.2 × 106 m3. Thus, this area will have a high value for coalbed methane exploitation after stimulating the reservoir to increase permeability successfully.

Social determinants of hepatitis contribute to uptake of hepatitis-related services across the care continuum, suggesting the need for community-based interventions. Most literature reviews on hepatitis have focused on biomedical components and not on public health interventions. The purpose of this project is to identify and assess community-engaged viral hepatitis interventions using a global scoping review.

Abstract

Carbon emissions associated with international trade are significant. The emergence of complex global value chains (GVCs) in recent decades, in which a country can operate as both a consumer and producer simultaneously, has led to a further rise in emissions. The complexity of these GVCs makes it increasingly difficult to determine what country is responsible for the emissions embodied within them. Here, we propose a new method based on input-output analysis to identify and distinguish self- and shared responsibility for CO2emissions along GVCs, where self-responsibility describes emissions embodied in purely domestic value chains. Our results show that developing countries’ self-responsibility for CO2emissions has been the largest driver in the growth of total GVC embodied emissions since 2001. Even considering the shared responsibility for emission transfers via GVCs, developing countries’ total responsibility has exceeded that of developed countries since 2012. We argue that climate negotiations should seriously consider GVC-based responsibility sharing to enable more effective climate policies.

Abstract

The diversity and structure of plant and soil microbial communities are influenced by temporal variability in environmental conditions (e.g., precipitation); however, it is unclear whether the responses of these biotic communities to land use practices (e.g., N fertilization and mowing) also vary over time. Here we investigated how harvesting hay by mowing and applications of N fertilization at different rates (0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, and 40 g N m−2 yr−1) affected plant, bacterial, and fungal communities by exploring data collected from a field experiment in a semiarid grassland in northern China over two consecutive years of 2017 and 2018. The cumulative precipitation during the growing season differed between the two studied years. The sampling year had more effect on the structure of the plant and soil microbial community than N fertilization and mowing, suggesting that the effects of land use practices varied by year, and were difficult to predict over time. The diversity of bacteria and fungi showed a different response to N fertilization and mowing between the two years. For example, in the wet year, the fungal diversity was up to 11% lower in soil that had been treated using the highest N fertilizer application than in untreated soil, but showed little variation in the dry year. The bacterial diversity was higher for all N application rates in the mown than the unmown land during the wet year, but no difference was observed during the dry year. There were more opportunistic and sensitive taxa for the two years (over 36.9% of top 10% relative abundance of bacterial and fungal taxa) than for N fertilization and mowing (below 33.0% of top 10% relative abundance of bacterial and fungal taxa). The relationships between plant and soil microbial communities differed between the two years, and were much stronger in the dry year than the wet year. Abstract

Many perceptual studies focus on the brain's capacity to discriminate between stimuli. However, our normal experience of the world also involves integrating multiple stimuli into a single perceptual event. Neural mechanisms such as lateral inhibition are believed to enhance local differences between sensory inputs from nearby regions of the receptor surface. However, this mechanism would seem dysfunctional when sensory inputs need to be combined rather than contrasted. Here, we investigated whether the brain can strategically regulate the strength of suppressive interactions that underlie lateral inhibition between finger representations in human somatosensory processing. To do this, we compared sensory processing between conditions that required either comparing or combining information. We delivered two simultaneous tactile motion trajectories to index and middle fingertips of the right hand. Participants had to either compare the directions of the two stimuli, or to combine them to form their average direction. To reveal preparatory tuning of somatosensory cortex, we used an established event-related potential design to measure the interaction between cortical representations evoked by digital nerve shocks immediately before each tactile stimulus. Consistent with previous studies, we found a clear suppression between cortical activations when participants were instructed to compare the tactile motion directions. Importantly, this suppression was significantly reduced when participants had to combine the same stimuli. These findings suggest that the brain can strategically switch between a comparative and a combinative mode of somatosensory processing, according to the perceptual goal, by preparatorily adjusting the strength of a process akin to lateral inhibition. Abstract

Despite great advances in lipid-lowering therapy, the gender-based disparities in lipid goal success among Chinese coronary heart disease (CHD) patients receiving lipid-lowering treatment remained uncharacterized. Furthermore, little is known about potential causes for this gender imbalance. This cross-sectional trial included 25 697 patients treated with lipid-lowering agents from 122 centres between April 2012 and October 2012; data for 9420 participants with CHD were analysed in the present study; all underwent clinical examination and had their latest fasting lipid profiles while on lipid-lowering therapy recorded. Logistic regression was used to explore possible factors associated with gender disparity in goal attainment rates, and to what extent each factor contributes. Of 9420 CHD patients (42.5% women) evaluated, women had a significantly lower overall low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) success rate than men (46.2 vs. 62.7%, P < 0.0001). Abstract

Background: Clinical diagnosis and monitoring are crucial to reduce the mortality from oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). It has been demonstrated that synuclein‐γ (SNCG) and squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCAg) are highly expressed in patients with OSCC and perhaps participate in OSCC progression. This study analyzed the levels of serum SNCG and SCCAg in OSCC, OPMD, and control patients, and evaluated the diagnostic and clinical value of single and combined detection of serum SNCG and SCCAg in OSCC and OPMDs. Patients and methods: Serum samples were collected from 197 patients including 87 patients with OSCC, 30 patients with OPMDs, and 80 healthy volunteers as controls. Enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay and statistical analysis were utilized to determine SNCG and SCCAg levels in serum. Results: The levels of SNCG and SCCAg in serum were significantly higher in OSCC compared with OPMDs and controls. There was a correlation between SNCG level and ethnicity, and SCCAg was correlated with differentiation. Furthermore, the area under the curves, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) of combined detection of SNCG and SCCAg were better than any single detection. Conclusion: The combined detection of SNCG and SCCAg in serum could become a new standard method to distinguish between OSCC and OPMDs and improve diagnostic performance for OSCC. Abstract

The mesh data structure, one of the fundamental data structure within the parallel framework, its design and realization level have an effect upon parallel capability of the parallel framework. Through the architecture and the fundamental data structure within some typical parallel framework relatively analyzed, such as JASMIN, SIERRA, and ITAPS, the design thought of parallel framework is discussed. Through borrowing ideas from layered set of services design about the SIERRA Framework, and combining with the objective of PANDA Framework in the near future, this paper present the rudimentary system about PANDA framework layered set of services. On this foundation, detailed introduction is placed in the definition and the management of the mesh data structure that it is located in the underlayer of the PANDA framework. The design and realization about parallel distributed mesh data structure of PANDA are emphatically discussed. The PANDA framework extension and application program development based on PANDA framework are grounded on our efforts.
