We find that analyst upgrades (downgrades) are associated with positive (negative) abnormal returns. Overall, stock prices tend to react significantly more strongly to recommendation changes accompanied by news events than to those that are not. Even so, returns around recommendation changes not accompanied by news are significantly different from zero. This result holds after controlling for firm-specific variables and the incidence of multiple simultaneous recommendation changes. We conclude that analyst recommendation changes, in and of themselves, are informative. Abstract

Low mechanical loading aquatic activities such as swimming and scuba diving have identified decreased bone mineral density (BMD); however, the effects of long-term surfing on bone health remains uninvestigated. This was a cross-sectional observational study with two groups: surfers (n = 11) with 40 years surfing experience and age and gender-matched sedentary controls (n = 10). Data collected included physical activity questionnaires, biomarkers, BMD, bone mineral content, and body composition. Surfers demonstrated a significantly (p < .05) higher mean BMD in the arms (+18.8%), trunk (+26.1%), ribs (+27.2%), spine (+39.5%), and lumbar spine (+22.8%). Surfers also exhibited a significantly (p < .05) higher BMC in the arms, trunk, ribs, spine, and pelvis. Surfers also had a significantly higher (p = .046) lean muscle mass in their arms (+16.8%). Our results indicate long-term participation in surfing is beneficial to bone health and may be an ideal physical activity for middle-aged aquatic enthusiasts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kinesiology taping has grown in popularity, though there are a number of unsubstantiatedclaims made by some kinesiology taping advocates. An investigation was conducted intotrends in general and scientific interest in kinesiology taping. Data in the public domain(Google Trends and Google Scholar data) indicated significant growth of interest both interms of public search queries and scientific publications relevant to kinesiology taping.Cyclical trends in interest relevant to kinesiology taping were identified. Segmentedregression indicated some of the growth in interest in kinesiology taping may be attributed toexposure of spectators of the Olympic Games to kinesiology taping in athletes. Despitesubstantial growth in research on kinesiology taping there remain unsubstantiated claims.

Abstract

Only two studies have reported on chronic musculoskeletal surfing injuries. They found over half of the injuries were non-musculoskeletal, but did not consider mechanisms of injury. This study identified the location, type, and mechanisms of chronic injury in Australian recreational and competitive surfers using a crosssectional retrospective observational design. A total of 1,348 participants (91.3% males, 43.1% competitive surfers) reported 1,068 chronic injuries, 883 of which were classified as major. Lower back (23.2%), shoulder (22.4%), and knee (12.1%) regions had the most chronic injuries. Competitive surfers had significantly (p < .05) more lower back, ankle/foot, and head/face injuries than recreational surfers. Injuries were mostly musculoskeletal with only 7.8% being of non-musculoskeletal origin. Prolonged paddling was the highest frequency (21.1%) for mechanism of injury followed by turning maneuvers (14.8%). The study results contribute to the limited research on chronic surfing injuries.
