Women in low and middle-income countries are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity. The non-profit humanitarian organisation CARE has implemented village savings and loan associations (VSLAs), funded by the Canadian International Development Agency, in many Sub-Saharan African countries to enhance women's access to savings and credit and empower them to tackle the challenges of food insecurity. Despite the importance of this innovative programme, its effects on food security outcomes have not been thoroughly examined. This study examined whether women's participation in VSLAs was associated with food security of women and their children. Using data collected by CARE involving 1,077 women and their children in Ethiopia, our findings showed that VSLA participation was significantly associated with a higher dietary diversity score among women. Food insecurity persists in Afghanistan, with 24 million Afghans lacking sufficient food in 2022. Malnourishment affects over 7 million children and mothers (WFP in Afghan Emergency. Retrieved 1.30 from https://www.wfp.org/emergencies/afghanistan-emergency). Women's rights have been severely undermined by the Taliban regime, with bans on education and employment restrictions. Using data from the 2017 Afghanistan Food Security Survey (n = 5027 households), we examined the relationship between women's education, employment, and household food security. Results indicate that households where both men and women have formal education were 52% more likely to be food secure and 50% more likely to have dietary diversity compared to a household lacking anyone with formal education. Women play a vital role in increasing household income and distributing resources towards improving dietary diversity. The rollback and censorship of women's rights under the current regime is bound to exacerbate the catastrophic rates of food insecurity, further worsening the well-being of all Afghans. Introduction: Recognizing the positive impact of movement and positions on labor progression and maternal and neonatal outcomes, there is a strong recommendation to empower women for active labor during antenatal education. This study investigates nurse-midwives' interventions in empowering women for active labor, during antenatal education within primary healthcare settings. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study was conducted in Primary Healthcare Units that provide antenatal education for childbirth in Portugal. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 nurse-midwives between August and October 2023. Content analysis, utilizing NVIVO software, was employed for data analysis, and the study adhered to the COREQ reporting guidelines. Results: Six themes emerged: 1) Perspective of nurse-midwives and contextual influences; 2) Assessment of women's needs; 3) Enhancing women's knowledge; 4) Enhancing women's capabilities; 5) Supporting women in decision-making; and 6) Nursemidwives' perspective on intervention outcomes. It is necessary to create environments conducive to knowledge and skill acquisition and invest in developing body awareness and its impact on labor progression. Encouraging women's involvement in decision-making is crucial, especially in less flexible hospital environments. Conclusions: This study highlighted the value nurse-midwives place on empowering women for active labor. Interventions featured sharing evidence-based practices and birth stories to foster reflection, emphasizing pelvic mobility training and partner involvement. The aim of this study is to identify women's perceptions of the main reasons for discrimination at work. Furthermore, the aim is to analyse the effects of public working time policies on gender equality and their impact on discrimination at work and on women's career paths. This article presents a framework for the topic through an analysis of documents and literature, as well as an exploratory study carried out in Portugal. Working time policies since 2011 in Portugal are examined and through an empirical study, the impact of overtime on women's work and careers is analysed. The documentary analysis carried out in Portugal shows the difficulties women face in reconciling work with family and personal life. While most studies focus on job satisfaction and women's willingness to work long hours for better career progression, this paper examines gender discrimination at work associated with working time policies. Gender equality and women's empowerment are among the goals set by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This study, based on a survey completed by female employees, concludes that women feel discriminated against in their careers due not only to the persistence of gender stereotypes but also to long working hours. Studying women's perceptions of the reasons for discrimination at work, as well as the relationship between working time and equality at work, can be important for understanding the under-representation of women in leadership positions and can help enrich public policies in this area. This study investigates the effectiveness of gender-mainstreamed aid in mitigating gender inequality. We develop a robust theoretical model that accounts for the potential positive and perceived negative effects of shifts toward gender parity, capturing diverse societal perspectives. Utilizing a comprehensive dataset on aid activities focused on gender (in)equality and women's empowerment across 118 countries from 2009 to 2022, primarily low-income nations, we employ panel fixed-effects and mixed-effects random coefficient models to examine the impact of gender-related aid on gender inequality. Our findings reveal that significant gender-related aid (SGRA), which integrates gender considerations into broader development projects, reduces gender inequality in 115 out of 118 countries. In contrast, principal gender-related aid (PGRA), which explicitly targets gender equality, shows significant effects in only 85 countries. When analyzing the effects of both components of gender-related aid, we find that SGRA consistently impacts gender inequality. However, the effectiveness of PGRA becomes less clear-cut. This observation, coupled with the variation in the effectiveness of the components across countries, underscores the importance of developing strategies tailored to country-specific needs and conditions in promoting gender parity effectively. Early marriage restrains women's agency and bargaining strength in postmarital households, impairing their ability to make meaningful contributions to household decision making. This paper employs a comprehensive measure of women's empowerment in the domestic and productive spheres, and isolates the causal effect of age at marriage, instrumented by age at menarche, on their bargaining strength, using nationally representative data from Bangladesh. Results suggest that delayed marriages result in significantly higher empowerment scores and probability of being empowered for women, because of higher likelihood in achieving adequacy in their autonomy in agricultural production, control over income, ownership of assets and rights in those assets, and ability to speak in public. Favorable impacts of delayed marriage are also found on women's freedom of mobility, fertility choices, and their ability to decide on household expenses and investments, with the impacts likely coming via improvements in education and labor market outcomes when women married later. Despite Rwanda’s high score (0.91) of the women empowerment in agricultural index (WEAI), key constraints for empowering women for sustainable land management include heavy workload, poor access to and decision on credit, and lack of control over use of income still persist. Furthermore, the contribution of women empowerment to SWC strategies has not been addressed in Northern Rwanda. To assess these effects, the survey analysed both plot-level and pro-WEAI data from 653 individual household members comprising 256 male and 400 female respondents. Data analysis was performed using independent t-test and the ISURE model. Findings show that female use between 221.04 and 2709.01 additional labor-hours for invisible SWC investment and SC practices compared to male. Further, compared to men, women use less than 17,423.46 labor-hours for soil fertility management, 14,210 labor-hours for integrated soil management and water conservation, and 248.51 labor-hours for financing SWC investments. Results also reveal that investment in both integrated and financing SWC investments have less costs and more comparative advantage in producing non-traditional agricultural export crops. Empirical results indicate that, apart from financing SWC, intrinsic agency, instrumental agency and collective agency have mixed effects on labor time allocated to SWC strategies. Socio-economic characteristics, mainly education, main occupation, and access to institutions and markets influence the labor time allocated to SWC strategies. The findings are relevant for designing economic strategies and gender transformative approaches to bolster women’s empowerment in SWC and to create just pathways to agricultural feminisation. Women in developing countries are often characterized by lower social status, less input into decision‐making, lack of access to resources, and lower mobility, while their inclusion is vital to achieving household food security. This concept is recognized as important for attaining sustainable development goals (SDGs), including SDG‐5 (gender equality). This study investigated the level of women's empowerment (WE) and its determinants, household food security, and the connections between WE and food security in farming households in Bangladesh. Using primary data collected from 350 households and applying the modified project‐level WE in Agriculture Index, this study found that less than 1% of women were empowered. Poisson regression evidenced that women's years of schooling, household size, farm type, and having household members working away were positively associated with WE, while the farm's distance from home was negatively related. The Household Food Insecurity Access Scale revealed that only 18% of households were food secure. Partial least squares structural equation modeling showed that three domains of empowerment—access to decisions on financial services, input in agricultural decisions, and ownership of assets—were negatively associated with household food insecurity, while mobility was positively related. This study evaluates the impact of self-help group (SHG) intervention and entrepreneurial traits of SHG members on the economic and socio-cultural empowerment of rural women. A purposive sampling method has been used to collect a sum of 344 responses from the SHG of women who are engaged in entrepreneurial income-generating activities in their village. A linear regression model has been used to analyse the data. The study found and argues that SHG interventions have a positive association with the economic and socio-cultural empowerment of rural women. The parameters identified and analysed in the study are helpful to the stakeholders to make policy decisions to strengthen all the factors, which are responsible for the success and growth of SHG in general and the micro-enterprise of SHG women entrepreneurs, in particular. The paper empirically investigates whether oil abundance affects fertility in a panel of developing and developed countries for 1970–2020. The exploration sheds light into why poor developing economies rich in natural resources such as Sub-Saharan African countries have stagnated with high fertility. It finds that fertility rises once oil abundance crosses a threshold level, below which fertility drops, controlling for oil volatility and per-capita GDP. The effect operates in part through women empowerment proxied by female's labor supply and education. It is also found that oil volatility raises fertility. This study examines gender inequalities in the degree of engagement in social clubs of older people and how women's participation relates to their empowerment at the country level. Combined individual-level data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) and country-level data from the Women's Political Empowerment Index (WPEI) are used in analyzing 41,185 non-working individuals aged 65–84 across 19 countries. Multilevel regression analyses are conducted to address these aims. We detect notable between-country variations in levels of participation. Substantial differences in the WPEI reflect marked contextual cross-country differences in gender equality. In roughly half of the 19 countries, no gender differences in social club participation are detected; however, women are more likely to participate in social clubs in the more gender-egalitarian countries of France, Denmark, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, whereas in three countries – Italy, Czech Republic and Croatia – more men than women participate in social clubs. In this study, we construct original measures of women's empowerment in economic, social, and interpersonal dimensions to estimate the effect of microcredit on women's empowerment in Djibouti. Using survey data covering 2060 Djiboutian households, we examine the extent to which access to microcredit, the amount of loans obtained, and their duration modify women's status at home. We employ an instrumental variables strategy and develop three instruments: (i) household's membership of a saving and credit cooperative, (ii) the availability of formal banks at the village or community level, and (iii) the availability of formal cooperatives at the village or community level. We find that microcredit has positive and significant effects on women's autonomy, but these effects become significantly negative as the number of loans taken out increases and as the length of time spent in the program rises. Women from households with access to micro‐loans are respectively 45.0%, 41.4%, and 15.7% more likely to be economically, socially, and interpersonally empowered. The results of the study are robust across specifications and econometric techniques employed and confirm the generally mixed socioeconomic effects of microcredit programs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The authors aim to contribute to the understanding of the enduring underrepresentation of women in the IT industry by analysing media discourse triggered by a campaign intended to encourage women to join the IT industry. Design/methodology/approach: Internet media coverage of the Little Miss Geek campaign in the UK was analysed as qualitative data to reveal systematic and coherent patterns contributing to the social construction of the role of women with respect to the IT industry and IT employment. Findings: While ostensibly supporting women's empowerment, the discourse framed women's participation in the IT industry as difficult to achieve, focused on women's presumed "feminine" essential features (thus, effectively implying that they are less suitable for IT employment than men), and tasked women with overcoming the barrier via individual efforts (thus, implicitly blaming them for the imbalance). In these ways, the discourse worked against the broader aims of the campaign. Social implications: Campaigns and organisations that promote women's participation should work to establish new frames, rather than allowing the discourse to be shaped by the established frames. Originality/value: The authors interpret the framing in the discourse using Bourdieu's perspective on symbolic power: the symbolic power behind the existing patriarchal order expressed itself via framing, thus contributing to the maintenance of that order. By demonstrating the relevance of Bourdieu's symbolic power, the authors offer a novel understanding of how underrepresentation of women in the IT sector is produced and maintained. From 2011 onward, jewelry advertisements in India have witnessed a surge in multimedia campaigns of branded work wear gold and diamond jewelry. These commercials target the urban Indian working woman with an affinity for fine, workwear jewelry marketed as versatile, cool and chic. This study takes up discourse analysis of 23 select commercials released on television channels and over the top (OTT) platforms between 2017 and 2022 to unravel the many contesting and contradictory displays of women’s apparently empowered personas. In doing so, it also seeks to unravel the rather complicated connections between the jewelry business and the gendered cultural habitus of working women in contemporary urban India. Most women depicted in the advertisements possess high economic and cultural capital and are seen as ‘doing urbanity’ in choosing workwear jewelry. Ironically though these possessors of refined habitus are perfectly adjusted in performing traditional gendered roles and relegating their own self-hoods, a much saleable business trope for advertisers. Such portrayals of urban Indian working women subtly and paradoxically dovetail in valorizing ideals of traditional femininity. This paper further argues that jewelry advertisements become sites where the projection of the ‘urban Indian working woman’ becomes a conduit for legitimizing a more mutated and reflexive patriarchy. This article explores the concept of female silence in Alifa Rifaat's short fiction, challenging the traditional interpretation of Arab women's subservience. It argues that silence can be seen as a normative practice of linguistic expression and resistance, rather than a marker of social exclusion. The European Union (EU) launched an EU-RESET Plus Innovation Fund in Ethiopia, with a goal of building the resilience and improving the livelihood of targeted vulnerable communities in five regions. The respective social innovation projects (SIPs) introduced social innovations that part with the ‘business-as-usual’ model. Though difficult to study impact due to the limitations of cross-sectional survey design adopted, the study aimed to investigate the level of subjective resilience exhibited by women and youth clients and the predictors of resilience. We collected quantitative data from 910 client households. We also conducted over a dozen case story interviews with project clients. We employed World Food Program (WFP) (2022) subjective resilience score to compute clients’ level of subjective resilience. An ordered logistic regression with subjective resilience as an outcome variable was conducted to determine predictors. The unique contribution of this study is the computation of the subjective resilience of project beneficiaries in objective terms, having three categories. The findings revealed that the SIPs contributed to boosting the resilience of women and youth, with significant predictors including active involvement, empowerment, gender, savings, and livestock ownership. The health systems fail to provide quality antenatal health services to vulnerable and marginalised pregnant women regardless of their effectiveness in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. Despite the importance of antenatal care quality during pregnancy, less is known regarding its inequality in developing countries. This paper aims to determine the inequality in antenatal care quality in Zimbabwe and the contribution of women’s empowerment. The paper used the 2010/11 and the 2015 Demographic Health Survey data and concentration index and Shapley decomposition. We found that antenatal care quality was pro-rich for blood sample tests, urine sample tests, blood pressure tests, and iron tablets except for tetanus injections, thus the affluent benefit more from better antenatal care quality than the poor. Women’s empowerment had a major contribution to inequality in antenatal care quality. Given the paramount importance of antenatal care in improving maternal, birth, and child outcomes, policymakers should consider policies that enhance the women’s empowerment and quality of antenatal care services in Zimbabwe, which in turn enhance the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals. Introduction: Women play an important role in maintaining household food security; unfortunately, their food security is frequently neglected. This type of phenomenon has become common in developing nations such as Bangladesh, particularly in its rural areas. The objective of this study is to investigate the variables that lead to the empowerment of rural women and its impact on their food security. In acknowledging women's significant contribution to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG-2)- Zero Hunger, this study investigates howaccess to resources, social support, and policy perceptions impact women's empowerment and food security. Methods: A total of 480 rural women from the southern part of Bangladesh were questioned, and their responses were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results: We found that access to resources, social support, and policy perceptions explain 74% of women's empowerment variance and women's empowerment explains 70% variance of women's food security. Access to resources and social support has significant positive impacts on women's empowerment. However, policy perceptions have a positive but not significant impact on women's empowerment. We also observed that women's empowerment significantly improved their food security. Practical implications: To empower women and improve their food security, the accessibility of resources and support from social networks must be improved. The study emphasizes the importance of strengthening the government's policies, which aim to improve the livelihood conditions of vulnerable people through regular monitoring to overcome underlying obstacles. Our study offers empirical data that policymakers can use to address complex food affordability and security challenges during global crises, enabling the achievement of SDG-2 in rural areas of Bangladesh and similar societies. Background: Although promising efforts have been made so far, HIV remains a public health concern. Women in Ethiopia are disproportionately affected by HIV, accounting for a majority of new infections and AIDS-related deaths. However, the geospatial distribution of HIV among women in Ethiopia is not well understood, making it challenging to develop geographically targeted measures. Besides, to accelerate the pathway of decreasing HIV prevalence and plan geographically specific interventions, understanding the geospatial distribution of HIV seropositivity and its predictors among women plays a significant role. Methods: A spatial and multiscale geographically weighted regression analysis was conducted using the 2016 EDHS dataset, comprising 14,778 weighted samples of women in the reproductive age group. The EDHS sample underwent two-stage stratification and selection. The data were extracted between October 18 and 30, 2023. Non-spatial analysis was carried out using STATA version 17. Additionally, ArcGIS Pro and Sat Scan version 9.6 were used to visually map HIV seropositivity. Global Moran's I was computed to evaluate the distribution of HIV seropositivity. The Getis-Ord Gi* spatial statistic was utilized to identify significant spatial clusters of cold and hot spot areas. Geographically weighted regression analysis was subsequently performed to identify significant predictors of HIV seropositivity. Significance was established at a P-value <0.05 throughout all statistical analyses. Results: HIV seropositivity among women in Ethiopia is distributed non-randomly (Global Moran's I = 0.16, p-value <0.001 and Z-score = 7.12). Significant hotspot clustering of HIV seropositivity was found in the Addis Ababa, Harari, Dire Dawa, and Gambela region. Poor wealth index, being divorced and widowed, having more than one sexual partner, and early first sexual experience (<15 years) were found to be predictors of geographical variation of HIV seropositivity among women. Conclusion: HIV seropositivity among women in Ethiopia varies geographically. Thus, deploying additional resources in high hotspot regions is recommended. Programs should focus on improving the economic empowerment of women to prevent the from engaging in risky sexual behaviors. Furthermore, comprehensive sex education programs in schools and community settings regarding the consequences of early first sexual debut might play a role in reducing HIV seropositivity among women in Ethiopia. Statistics from the 2018 National Social and Economic Survey revealed that one out of nine young females in Indonesia have been in female child marriage, and the prevalence remains high. Considering the serious consequences of female child marriage and that Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality has targeted the elimination of female child marriage by 2030, a study concerning the prevalence and determinants of female child marriage needs to be conducted in Indonesia. In this paper, we examined the prevalence of and factors associated with female child marriage in Indonesia using binary logistic regression. We examined data from the Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey conducted in 2017. A sample of 9,333 young females aged 15–20 years was included in the study. Our analysis involved descriptive and binary logistic regression analysis. The results are presented in percentages and odds ratios (OR), with their respective confidence intervals. Our findings indicate that health insurance and sex of household head did not significantly influence female child marriage. The prevalence of female child marriage in Indonesia was quite high, reaching about 12.53%. Females with no education [OR = 76.448; (CI = 29.73–196.70)], not working [OR = 1.662; (CI = 1.41–1.94)], those with the poorest wealth index [OR = 3.215; (CI = 2.336–4.425)], those living in the east of Indonesia [OR = 1.451; (CI = 1.132–1.862)], and those living in rural areas [OR = 0.718; (CI = 0.609–0.844)] had the higher odds of experiencing female child marriage. Meanwhile, females with a secondary education level [OR = 16.296; (CI = 11.098–23.930)], those with a rich wealth index [OR = 1.940; (CI = 1.404–2.681)], and those living in the middle of Indonesia [OR = 1.263; (CI = 1.074–1.487)] were less likely to experience female child marriage. Educational background was the most significant factor influencing the high prevalence of female child marriage in Indonesia. Female empowerment through education as well as poverty alleviation were factors that could be strengthened to ensure that female child marriage is reduced or eliminated in Indonesia. This study was conducted to examine the effect of women's empowerment on gender perception at a descriptive level 426 women who received services from Family Centers affiliated to Ankara Mamak Municipality and who agreed to participate in the study participated in the research. Sociodemographic form, Women Empowerment Scale and Perception of Gender Scale were used as data collection tools. The mean score of the Women Empowerment Scale used in this study was I.66±.I48. The participants' mean score on the Women's Ability to Act Independently Scale, which is one of the subscales of the Women Empowerment Scale, was 2.00±.188, the mean score on the Freedom from Family Pressure Subscale was I.88±.2O5, and the mean score on the Economic Security and Contribution Scale was 1.77±.274. The mean score obtained from the Perception of Gender Scale was 2.8I±.335. According to the findings, marital status and marriage type of the participants are effective on their gender perception levels. There is a statistical difference between marital status, marriage type and age at first marriage and women's empowerment. It was observed that there was a positive, strong and significant relationship between women's ability to act independently and gender perception (r=.7O2, p<.00I). Recognizing the significance of literature as a mirror reflecting societal realities, this research aims to explore the multifaceted experiences of female protagonists navigating oppressive patriarchal structures and uncover the complexities of gender inequality and women's agency depicted in the novel. Methodology: Employing thematic analysis, I conducted an in-depth examination of character dynamics, societal norms, and narrative elements present in A Thousand Splendid Suns. Through a systematic exploration of themes and patterns within the text, the study elucidates the nuanced complexities of gender discrimination and women's resilience in the face of adversity. Data collection involves close reading and interpretation of the novel, supplemented by theoretical engagement with relevant literature on gender studies and Afghan society. The qualitative approach allows for a rich exploration of the experiences and perspectives of female characters within the narrative context. Findings: The findings of the analysis illuminate the pervasive discrimination, violence, and systemic oppression faced by Afghan women as depicted in the novel. Characters like Mariam and Laila exemplify the intersectionality of gender with other axes of oppression, such as class and ethnicity, highlighting the interconnected nature of social hierarchies. Despite the challenges they face, female characters demonstrate resilience and determination in challenging societal norms and asserting their autonomy. The narrative underscores the transformative power of education as a catalyst for women's empowerment, inspiring others to advocate for systemic change and justice. Despite numerous works of Kartini as Indonesia’s most famous feminist icon, hardly any deep study investigated how Kartini was remembered in the first years of Indonesia’s independence. This study aims to examine how Indonesians celebrated Kartini Day during the Indonesian Revolution (1946–1949), by using print media in Indonesian, Dutch and English from that period. This study argues that for Indonesian nationalists at that time, commemorating Kartini Day was of paramount importance to encourage women empowerment based on the Indonesian nation-state concept. The commemorations were held in many places in Indonesia and were attended by numerous people from different walks of life. During the commemorations, Indonesian women were persuaded to adopt new roles in that era, namely as devoted Indonesian citizens who should contribute to the new country, especially in the field of women empowerment, community service, political participation and war effort. However, Indonesian women were criticised for still being Dutch-oriented and interpreting their freedom way too far. These findings indicate that during the Revolution, the commemorations of Kartini Day was urgently needed by the Indonesian nation-state as a momentum to promote Indonesian nationalism among women and encourage women’s participation in the nation-state building process and in the Dutch-Indonesian conflict. Qatar is on a mission to cultivate a thriving, globally competitive, knowledge-based economy, shifting away from its rentier economic model, as well as being a key international player on the world stage. This article focuses on Qatar's social and cultural sphere, exploring the Qatari state's vision for society in the midst of these grand agendas. Through a systematic analysis of six key national documents (KNDs), such as the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy, it extracts the state's aspirations for its society, as well as the values or traits they are attempting to preserve or inculcate. We identify five key overarching themes in the KNDs: (1) the advancement of society; (2) the preservation of traditions and values; (3) keeping up with the Gulf, Arab and Islamic countries and the world; (4) the empowerment of women; and (5) the importance of the family. The paper concludes with an assessment of some top-down initiatives and policies that were designed to achieve these ambitious agendas, and highlights some of their pitfalls. These issues include a lack of civic participation and engagement; the need for more localisation and indigenous social innovation; and, lastly, more attention given to social dynamics, including their inter- and intra-relations, which often lead to unintended consequences. Despite efforts to promote gender diversity, the construction industry in Australia remains one of the most male-dominated industries. Women, compared to their male counterparts, progress more slowly and encounter major obstacles to career development in the construction industry. Existing research tends to focus on broad factors that impact women's career development in all career stages despite the fact that women's career priorities often change as they progress through different career stages. This study applied Super's career development model to investigate the influential factors on women's career development across four career stages: explore (precareer), establishment (early career), midcareer, and late career. By conducting a systematic review in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, this research identified influential factors related to women's career development in the construction industry, namely, attitude, capability, interest, past experiences, family responsibilities, parental influences, role models, support, culture, organizational practice, and policies and regulations. Based on the women's empowerment framework, the identified factors were coded and synthesized into three dimensions: individual, relational, and environmental. The research finds there is a significant focus on providing relational and environmental support to women in construction, and less attention is given to individual factors. The review revealed that personal interest and parental perceptions in construction influence women's career development in precareer and early career stages, while masculine culture significantly impacts women's career development in all career stages. This study also summarizes the theoretical contributions and practical implications drawn from existing research on different stages of women's career development and provides guidance for further research. This paper attempts to demonstrate how the artworks in the exhibition "Madres plantas y mujeres luchadoras. Visiones desde Cantagallo", created by the Shipibo artists of the Non Shinanbo collective, constitute a testimonial record that evidences the strategies that emerged within Cantagallo, an urban indigenous community, in the context of the measures taken by the Peruvian State during the first stage of the Covid-19 pandemic. Through the "reading" and analysis of a selection of artworks and based on interviews with the artists, it will be illustrated how their work creates an effective testimony that emphasizes the empowerment of the women in the community, the significance of the bonds of solidarity within the community and the relevance of Shipibo traditional knowledge, which is open to heterogeneous elements, thus evidencing its modernity and complexity. Purpose: Micro-finance has a significant role in the better performance of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This study aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the existing literature on the role of micro-finance and its approaches in MSMEs. Design/methodology/approach: This work performs a bibliometric analysis using a data set of 631 articles collected from the Scopus database. The Bibliometrix R package and Vosviewer are used to conduct performance analysis and scientific mapping. Performance analysis shows the publication trend, key authors, journals and top influential articles. Science mapping through a bibliographic coupling network of documents is prepared to discover the intellectual structure of the field. Findings: This review has identified the four major themes: access to finance and schemes, women empowerment and poverty alleviation, the performance of micro-finance institutions and recent development in micro-financial institutions. With the help of these research themes, the paper also highlights future research agendas. The article analyzes the viability of women's participation in women's cooperatives in Turkey. The prospects are evaluated by focusing on the sustainability of the cooperatives' economic activities as well as the recruitment and continued participation of individual women members. Taking a feminist social reproduction perspective, the article seeks to understand the underlying dynamics of women's participation in cooperatives, as this perspective enables us to analyze this participation as a process and captures the permeability between women's social reproduction duties, women's relationship with the state, and the economic market. Based on countrywide, semi‐structured in‐depth interviews with members of women's cooperatives in Turkey, we find that familial constraints as well as governmental policies and practices challenge women's economic development aspirations in the cooperatives, while social class deeply informs the challenges faced as well as the resources available to and strategies developed by women. The resulting analysis demonstrates that familial, social, and political issues related to social reproduction need to be addressed prior to focusing on the impact of cooperatives on women's empowerment. Background This study aimed to explore the relationship between women's empowerment and utilization of maternity care for married Afghan women aged 15–49 y in Afghanistan, assessing the convergence validity of the Survey-based Women's Empowerment Index in Afghanistan (SWEI-A). Methods The study used data from the 2015 Afghanistan Demographic Health Survey to examine the association of different domains of women's empowerment with the utilization of maternity care using multilevel Poisson regression at both individual and community levels. Results The utilization of maternity services was considerably higher among women with high scores compared with those with low scores in almost all domains of the SWEI-A, except for property owning, in which women with high scores appeared to have lower rates of utilization of such services compared with those with low scores. At the community level, those communities with high participation of women in the labor force were less likely to have adequate antenatal care (ANC), institutional delivery and postnatal care (PNC). Individual-level literacy was associated with higher utilization of ANC, institutional delivery and PNC, contrary to community-level literacy. Conclusions Except for property owning, the high score in almost all other domains was associated with higher utilization of maternity care, which indicates an acceptable level of convergence validity for the developed index (i.e. the SWEI-A) in measuring women's empowerment among married Afghan women aged 15–49 y. French law 2004-228 and Quebec's Bill 21 has prohibited wearing conspicuous religious symbols while discharging public duty, especially as teachers in public school. This has aroused robust public debate because it disproportionately affects Muslim women wearing hijabs. This paper investigates the philosophical/ethical argument on both sides of the debate. The key research question is whether liberal feminists have the justification to support the hijab ban. The paper outlines different types of liberal feminism and their views on just social arrangements. The paper uses Gheaus's concept of gender justice and Kabeer's definition of gender empowerment to structure the debate, stating that feminists will support the ban if it enhances empowerment and makes society more gender-just or internal working of social arrangements, at least procedurally just. The paper draws on the utilitarian argument, Nussbaum's and Sen's articulation of the Capability Approach and the importance of identity, and Bourdieu's concept of Habitus, Doxa, and Symbolic Violence. The paper argues that there are strong arguments on both sides. Still, liberal feminists concerned about structural inequalities, economic empowerment, and individual freedom may not be convinced that the Hijab ban makes society more gender-just or improves individual empowerment. This study examined modifiable caregiver factors influencing child development in Malawi using baseline data from 1,021 mothers and their children <2 years of age participating in a cluster‐randomized controlled trial implemented in rural Malawi (2022–2025). We fit an evidence‐based theoretical model using structural equation modelling examining four caregiver factors: (1) diet diversity (sum of food groups consumed in the past 24 h), (2) empowerment (assessed using the project‐level Women's Empowerment in Agriculture Index), (3) mental health (assessed using the Self‐Reported Questionnaire, SRQ‐20), and (4) stimulation (number of stimulation activities the mother engaged in the past 3 days). Child development was assessed using the Malawi Development Assessment Tool (norm‐referenced aggregate Z‐score). The model controlled for child, caregiver, and household socioeconomic characteristics. Results showed that caregiver dietary diversity was directly associated with higher child development scores (standardized coefficient 0.091 [95% CI 0.027, 0.153]) and lower SRQ‐20 scores −0.058 (−0.111, −0.006). Empowerment was directly associated with higher child development scores (0.071 [0.007, 0.133]), higher stimulation score (0.074 [0.013, 0.140]), higher dietary diversity (0.085 [0.016, 0.145]), and lower SRQ‐20 scores (−0.068 [−0.137, −0.002]). Further, higher empowerment was indirectly associated with improved child development through enhancement of caregiver dietary diversity, with an indirect effect of 0.008 (0.002, 0.018). These findings highlight the important role that caregiver diet and empowerment play in directly influencing child development and other aspects of caregiver well‐being. Interventions aimed at enhancing child development should consider these factors as potential targets to improve outcomes for children and caregivers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The main objective of this paper is to analyse women's participation in care cooperatives as a fundamental tool for their empowerment. To this end, concepts related to migration, participation in the social economy and women's empowerment are discussed. The situation of crisis of the traditional care system in the Global North attracts foreign female migration to partially alleviate the problem. However, these women face conditions of vulnerability and precariousness. Global care chains emerge, entailing high family and personal costs for the weakest link. In this context, this study develops a qualitative analysis based on in-depth interviews with workers from three care cooperatives in the Basque Country. The aim is to highlight, through an exploratory thematic analysis, the way in which the social economy, through care cooperatives, can be a fundamental tool for the empowerment of women (migrant or not) involved in the care sector. The analysis of the information reveals that the cooperative is an ideal way to encourage women's participation and this, in turn, leads to increased confidence, self-esteem and, in general, a sense of empowerment for these women. Introduction. Extension projects promoted at the university level serve as mechanisms for the betterment and growth of the rural communities. These projects might end up being longitudinal, where the constant mentoring and coaching is fundamental to continue helping the communities. This study examined the impact of extension projects that focused on rural tourism and entrepreneurship to a cooperative. Objective. The descriptive study seeks to portray the importance of university extension processes during 2015-2018 regarding community development, based on a qualitative case study of five women in Sarapiquí. Methodology. The methodology was based on a case study as a detailed description. The focus was descriptive (Baxter y Jack, 2008; Flyvbjerg, 2011; Lichtman, 2013). The case study focused on the experiences of five women, who were trained during 2015-2018 in rural tourism and entrepreneurship coordinated by the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica. Results. The results suggest that women empowerment is highly linked to their own personal process, but also to university extension projects. Also, it was evidence that several public institutions have contributed to the community growth. On the other hand, the participants indicated their participation in community activities with various institutions for the growth of the community, which required leadership and empowerment to express their needs and carry out their personal and communal projects. However, it was emphasized that more processes are needed to fully booster the community growth, the empowerment process, and the personal and professional skills. Conclusions. The women of the study highlighted how the institutional and academic alliance promote community growth, thus the importance to reflect on this and continue promoting community participation to guarantee constant growth. Efforts for empowering women have been a priority agenda in development because women make crucial contributions to society. One of the significant issues that women are well positioned to address is the stunting or impaired development of children due to poor nutrition. As this issue is a threat for national development in Indonesia, the central government has initiatives to tackle stunting, and one of these is the Sustainable Food Garden, or Pekarangan Pangan Lestari (P2L). The innovative program is designed to prevent stunting by empowering women, which also contributes to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This research is focused on the implementation of the P2L initiative in Jombang Regency in East Java, Indonesia. More specifically, it explores how the program capacity, especially at the organizational level, plays a significant role in the implementation of P2L through women's involvement in Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) or the Women Farmers' Group. The fieldwork research was performed in four KWTs villages in Kesamben District, one of the focal locations for addressing stunting and food insecurity in Jombang. By using qualitative research methods involving interviews, observation, and analysis of relevant documents, this study finds that within the implementation of the P2L program in Jombang Regency, the program capacity, especially at the organizational level has been fulfilled well. Such program capacity, which includes political capacity, analytical capacity, and operational capacity, has led stakeholders' commitment to fulfill the program's goals and objective, and above all to empower women. In this, Women Farmers' Groups (KWTs) have also contributed to improving nutrition, decreasing the prevalence of stunting in Jombang Regency, and supporting economic growth for women and families, and thus the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study aims to investigate the moderating effect of support systems on the interplay of socio-cultural, economic, and health factors influencing women's empowerment in India. The results suggest that support systems have an important role in moderating the interlinkages between socio-cultural, economic, and health factors and women's empowerment. Specifically, strong support systems enhance the positive effects of economic independence and health status on women's empowerment while also mitigating the negative impact of socio-cultural barriers. The study utilized both descriptive and inferential statistics to interpret the data in all dimensions. The descriptive statistics consist of measures such as mean, SD, and other elementary statistical measure. The quantitative aspect involved structured surveys administered to a diverse sample of women across various parts of the SPSR Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh. The primary purpose of this bibliometric survey is to determine the scope of the literature available for women's empowerment through engineering education. The commemorative analysis is based on Scopus because it provides research databases from various fields and tools such as Sciencescape and Gephi. In the theoretical survey, we analyze the prominent publications of journals, conferences, and the majority from the United States. Community Based Organization (CBO) refers to organizations working for the upliftment of marginalised sections of society through various projects and programmes. Kudumbashree is a Community Based Organization consisting of women Self-Help Groups, successfully functioning in Kerala over the last two and a half decades. Keeping development of entrepreneurship and women's empowerment as the main functional areas, Kudumbashree has introduced several entrepreneurial initiatives, which in turn provides employment and livelihood opportunities to hundreds of women and leads to the socio-economic development of local communities. China is indeed the biggest investor in South Africa but it is very important to understand the effects that its investment has on the youth of South Africa. This study aims to analyse whether China's investment empowers the youth of South Africa through entrepreneurial skills, access to advanced technology, and provisions of scholarships. The findings of the study reveal that there is a level of inconsistency when it comes to China empowering the youth of South Africa. The study, therefore, recommends that the government of South Africa should work together with China to empower its youth and be consistent in doing so to contribute to their development as individuals. Findings: Gender disparities: Over 80% of the global impoverished population is in rural areas, with women constituting 70% of this demographic. Challenges in policy implementation: Despite women-centred policies, challenges persist in enabling rural women to recognise the potential of remunerative skills for improving their lives. Linking skills and decision-making: Scholarly work highlights the connection between remunerative skills and decision-making, emphasising the importance of financial independence for women's empowerment. Gap in job opportunities: Lack of industry and commercial setups in rural areas poses a significant challenge, hindering the recognition of the value that skill development can offer.
