Abstract: Evidence of anomalous WW and WZ production was sought in pbar{p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The final states $WW (WZ) to mu-nu-jet-jet + X, WZ to mu-nu-e-e + X and WZ to e-nu-e-e + X were studied using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 90 pb-1. No evidence of anomalous diboson production was found. Limits were set on anomalous WWgamma and WWZ couplings and were combined with our previous results. The combined 95% confidence level anomalous coupling limits for Lambda=2 TeV are -0.25 LE Delta-kappa LE 0.39 (lambda=0) and -0.18 LE lambda LE 0.19 (Delta \kappa = 0), assuming the WWgamma couplings are equal to the WWZ couplings.

Abstract: D\O{} has measured the inclusive production cross section of W and Z bosons in a sample of 13 ${\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ of data collected at the Fermilab Tevatron. The cross sections, multiplied by their leptonic branching fractions, for production in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV are ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{W}e\ensuremath{\nu})=2.36\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.08\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.13\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb},$ ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{W}\ensuremath{\mu}\ensuremath{\nu})=2.09\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.06\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.22\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.11\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb},$ ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}})=0.218\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.008\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.012\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb}$, and ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\mu}}^{\ensuremath{-}})=0.178\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.022\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.021\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.009\mathrm{}\mathrm{nb}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic; the third reflects the uncertainty in the integrated luminosity. For the combined electron and muon analyses, we find ${\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{W}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{W}l\ensuremath{\nu})/{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{Z}\mathrm{B}(\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{Z}{l}^{+}{l}^{\ensuremath{-}})=10.90\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.52$. Assuming standard model couplings, we use this result to determine the width of the W boson, and obtain $\ensuremath{\Gamma}(W)=2.044\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.097 \mathrm{GeV}$.

Abstract: We report on a search for bottom squarks produced in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab. Bottom squarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and to decay to the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a b quark with branching fraction of 100%. The LSP is assumed to be the lightest neutralino and stable. We set limits on the production cross section as a function of bottom squark mass and LSP mass.

Abstract: We present a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays of pair-produced top quarks using 109.2 +- 5.8 pb^-1 of data recorded from ppbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV by the D0 detector during 1992-96 at the Fermilab Tevatron. No evidence is found for charged Higgs production, and most parts of the [m(H+),tan(beta)] parameter space where the decay t -> bH+ has a branching fraction close to or larger than that for t -> bW+ are excluded at 95% confidence level. Assuming m(t) = 175 GeV and sigma(ppbar -> ttbar) = 5.5 pb, for m(H+) = 60 GeV, we exclude tan(beta) < 0.97 and tan(beta) > 40.9., 11 pages, 3 figures, submitted to PRL

Abstract: The results of a search for W boson pair production in pp collisions at √s=1.8TeV with subsequent decay to eμ, ee, and μμ channels are presented. Five candidate events are observed with an expected background of 3.1±0.4 events for an integrated luminosity of approximately 97pb -1 . Limits on the anomalous couplings are obtained from a maximum likelihood fit of the E T spectra of the leptons in the candidate events. Assuming identical WWγ and WWZ couplings, the 95% C.L. limits are -0.62

Abstract: A measurement of the mass of the W boson is presented which is based on a sample of 5982 W → eνv decays observed in pp collisions at √s=1.8 TeV with the D∅ detector during the 1992-1993 run. From a fit to the transverse mass spectrum, combined with measurements of the Z boson mass, the W boson mass is measured to be MW=80.350±0.140(stat)±0.165(syst)±0.160(scale) GeV/c 2 . Detailed discussions of the determination of the absolute energy scale, the measured efficiencies, and all systematic uncertainties are presented.

Abstract: We have searched for central production of a pair of photons with high transverse energies in $p\bar p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.8$ TeV using $70 pb^{-1}$ of data collected with the D\O detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in 1994--1996. If they exist, virtual heavy pointlike Dirac monopoles could rescatter pairs of nearly real photons into this final state via a box diagram. We observe no excess of events above background, and set lower 95% C.L. limits of $610, 870, or 1580 GeV/c^2$ on the mass of a spin 0, 1/2, or 1 Dirac monopole., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: The gauge boson pair production processes Wg, WW, WZ, and Zg were studied using pbarp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ~14 pb-1 at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. Analysis of Wg prod with subsequent W boson decay to lv (l=e,mu) is reported, including a fit to the pT spectrum of the photons which leads to limits on anomalous WWg couplings. A search for WW prod with subsequent decay to l-lbar-v-vbar (l=e,mu) is presented leading to an upper limit on the WW prod cross section and limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings. A search for high pT W bosons in WW and WZ prod is described, where one W boson decays to an ev and the second W boson or the Z boson decays to two jets. A maximum likelihood fit to the pT spectrum of W bosons resulted in limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings. A combined fit to the three data sets which provided the tightest limits on anomalous WWg and WWZ couplings is also described. Limits on anomalous ZZg and Zgg couplings are presented from an analysis of the photon ET spectrum in Zg events in the decay channels (ee, mu-mu, and v-vbar) of the Z boson., 77 Pages including 40 Figures. Abstract: We report on a search for pair production of a fourth generation charge -1/3 quark (b') in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using an integrated luminosity of 93 pb^-1. Both quarks are assumed to decay via flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC). The search uses the signatures gamma + 3 jets + mu-tag and 2 gamma + 2 jets. We see no significant excess of events over the expected background. We place an upper limit on the production cross section times branching fraction that is well below theoretical expectations for a b' quark decaying exclusively via FCNC for b' quark masses up to m(Z) + m(b)., Eleven pages, two postscript figures, submitted to Physical Review Letters

Abstract: This study reports the first measurement of the azimuthal decorrelation between jets with pseudorapidity separation up to five units. The data were accumulated using the D{\O}detector during the 1992--1993 collider run of the Fermilab Tevatron at $\sqrt{s}=$ 1.8 TeV. These results are compared to next--to--leading order (NLO) QCD predictions and to two leading--log approximations (LLA) where the leading--log terms are resummed to all orders in $\alpha_{\scriptscriptstyle S}$. The final state jets as predicted by NLO QCD show less azimuthal decorrelation than the data. The parton showering LLA Monte Carlo {\small HERWIG} describes the data well; an analytical LLA prediction based on BFKL resummation shows more decorrelation than the data., Comment: 6 pages with 4 figures, all uuencoded and gzipped

Abstract: We present results on the search for the top quark in {ital p{bar p}} collisions at {radical}{ital s} =1.8 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 13.5{plus_minus}1.6 pb{sup {minus}1}. We have considered {ital t{bar t}} production in the standard model using electron and muon dilepton decay channels ({ital t{bar t}}{r_arrow}{ital e}{mu}+jets, {ital ee}+jets, and {mu}{mu}+jets) and single-lepton decay channels ({ital t{bar t}}{r_arrow}{ital e}+jets and {mu}+jets) with and without tagging of {ital b} quark jets. An analysis of these data optimized for top quark masses below 140 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2} gives a lower top quark mass limit of 128 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2}. An analysis optimized for higher top quark masses yields 9 events with an expected background of 3.8{plus_minus}0.9. If we assume that the excess is due to {ital t{bar t}} production, and assuming a top quark mass of 180 GeV/{ital c}{sup 2}, we obtain a cross section of 8.2{plus_minus}5.1 pb.

Abstract: A time-of-flight technique has been used to search for neutral weakly interacting massive particles in the wideband neutrino beam at the Fermilab Tevatron. Limits at the 90% confidence level are reported herein for (a) heavy neutrino production from the decay of heavy quark states, (b) massive objects directly produced in 800 GeV/c pN interactions that are noninteracting but unstable with a mean lifetime between ${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}8}$ and ${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}4}$ s, and (c) directly produced massive objects that are stable but weakly interacting with interaction cross sections between ${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}29}$ and ${10}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}31}$ ${\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$.

Abstract: The DO collaboration reports on a search for the Standard Model top quark in pbar-p collisions at Sqrt(s)=1.8TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 50pb-1. We have searched for t-tbar production in the dilepton and single-lepton decay channels, with and without tagging of b-quark jets. We observed 17 events with an expected background of 3.8+/-0.6 events. The probability for an upward fluctuation of the background to produce the observed signal is 2.0E-6 (equivalent to 4.6 standard deviations). The kinematic properties of the excess events are consistent with top quark decay. We conclude that we have observed the top quark and measure its mass to be 199^+19_21 (stat.)+/- 22 (syst.)GeV/c**2 and its production cross section to be 6.4 +/- 2.2 pb., Comment: postscript available at http://fnnews.fnal.gov/top_paper_dzero.ps, for further info see http://fnnews.fnal.gov/top_discovery.html

Abstract: The DØ detector is a large general purpose detector for the study of short-distance phenomena in high energy antiproton-proton collisions, now in operation at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The detector focusses upon the detection of electrons, muons, jets and missing transverse momentum. We describe the design and performance of the major elements of the detector, including the tracking chambers, transition radiation detector, liquid argon calorimetry and muon detection. The associated electronics, triggering systems and data acquisition systems are presented. The global mechanical, high voltage, and experiment monitoring and control systems which support the detector are described. We also discuss the design and implementation of software and software support systems that are specific to DØ. © 1994.

Abstract: Hadronic showers at six incident particle energies from 33.8 to 415.4 GeV have been studied using the low-density fine-grained flash chamber calorimeter of the Lab C neutrino detector at Fermilab. Transverse distributions of unprecedented fine granularity have been obtained for a range of depths in the shower. Longitudinal energy distributions have been compared with those from iron-scintillator detectors. Some differences are observed which may be attributable to the different relative sensitivity of the two detector types to electromagnetic and hadronic shower components. Both longitudinal and transverse distributions have been parametrized. Fluctuations in energy deposition have been studied. The relative size of the fluctuations is largest near the starting vertex and in the tail of the shower, and falls slowly with increasing beam energy. Correlations between energy deposition in neighboring parts of the shower are observed, and anticorrelation is seen between energy deposition in the peak and in the tail of the shower. Containment lengths and widths have also been measured and parametrized.

Abstract: Our recent paper ∗ described an analysis of the energy deposition in hadronic showers at six incident particle energies from 33.8 to 415.4 GeV using the low-density fine-grained flash chamber calorimeter of the Lab C neutrino detector at Fermilab. More recent work on the subject has led us to revise some of the results presented for energies above 200 GeV. We present here revised results for the longitudinal and transverse energy deposition, and new coefficients for the parametrization of these curves.

Abstract: This report describes the first search for top squark pair production in the channel stop_1 stopbar_1 -> b bbar chargino_1 chargino_1 -> ee+jets+MEt using 74.9 +- 8.9 pb^-1 of data collected using the D0 detector. A 95% confidence level upper limit on sigma*B is presented. The limit is above the theoretical expectation for sigma*B for this process, but does show the sensitivity of the current D0 data set to a particular topology for new physics., Five pages, including three figures, submitted to PRD Brief Reports

Abstract: We present a measurement of tbar-t production using multijet final states in pbar-p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.8 TeV, with an integrated luminosity of 110.3 pb(-1). The analysis has been optimized using neural networks to achieve the smallest expected fractional uncertainty on the tbar-t production cross section, and yields a cross section of 7.1 +/- 2.8(stat.) +/- 1.5(syst.) pb, assuming a top quark mass of 172.1 GeV/c^(2). Combining this result with previous D0 measurements, where one or both of the W bosons decay leptonically, gives a tbar-t production cross section of 5.9 +/- 1.2(stat) +/- 1.1(syst) pb., 6 pages, 3 figures; no substative change in revision

Abstract: We search for inclusive high $E_T$ diphoton events with large missing transverse energy in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=1.8 TeV. Such events are expected from pair production of charginos and neutralinos within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with a light gravitino. No excess of events is observed. In that model, and assuming gaugino mass unification at the GUT scale, we obtain a 95% CL exclusion region in the supersymmetry parameter space and lower mass bounds of 150 GeV/c$^2$ for the lightest chargino and 75 GeV/c$^2$ for the lightest neutralino., 11 pages, 4 eps figures, To be Published in Phys. Abstract: We determine the top quark mass m{sub t} using t{bar t} pairs produced in the DO/ detector by {radical} (s) =1.8thinspTeV p{bar p} collisions in a 125thinsppb{sup {minus}1} exposure at the Fermilab Tevatron. We make a two constraint fit to m{sub t} in t{bar t}{r_arrow}bW{sup +}{bar b}W{sup {minus}} final states with one {ital W} boson decaying to q{bar q} and the other to e{nu} or {mu}{nu}. Likelihood fits to the data yield m{sub t}(l+jets)=173.3{plus_minus}5.6thinsp(stat)thinsp{plus_minus}thinsp5.5thinsp(s st) GeV/c{sup 2}. When this result is combined with an analysis of events in which both {ital W} bosons decay into leptons, we obtain m{sub t}=172.1{plus_minus}5.2thinsp(stat)thinsp{plus_minus}thinsp4.9thinsp(syst) GeV/c{sup 2}. An alternate analysis, using three constraint fits to fixed top quark masses, gives m{sub t}(l+jets)=176.0{plus_minus}7.9thinsp(stat){plus_minus}thinsp4.8thinsp(syst) GeV/c{sup 2}, consistent with the above result. Abstract: We have searched for a heavy neutral gauge boson, Z ′, using the decay channel Z ′ → ee . The data were collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron during the 1992–1993 p p collider run at s =1.8 TeV from an integrated luminosity of 15±1 pb −1 . Limits are set on the cross section times brancing ratio for the process p p → Z′ → ee as a function of the Z ′ mass. We exclude the existence of a Z ′ of mass less than 490 GeV/c 2 , assuming a Z ′ with the same coupling strengths to quarks and leptons as the standard model Z boson.
