Variable interfacial tension could be desirable for many applications. Beyond classical stimuli like temperature, we introduce an electrochemical approach employing polymers. Hence, aqueous solutions of the nonionic-cationic block copolymer poly(ethylene oxide)114-b-poly{[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]diisopropylmethylammonium chloride}171 (i.e., PEO114-b-PDPAEMA171 with a quaternized poly(diisopropylaminoethyl methacrylate) block) were investigated by emerging drop measurements and dynamic light scattering, analyzing the PEO114-b-qPDPAEMA171 impact on the interfacial tension between water and n-decane and its micellar formation in the aqueous bulk phase. Potassium hexacyanoferrates (HCFs) were used as electroactive complexants for the charged block, which convert the bishydrophilic copolymer into amphiphilic species. Interestingly, ferricyanides ([Fe(CN)6]3-) act as stronger complexants than ferrocyanides ([Fe(CN)6]4-), leading to an insoluble qPDPAEMA block in the presence of ferricyanides. Hence, bulk micellization was demonstrated by light scattering. Due to their addressability, in situ redox experiments were performed to trace the interfacial tension under electrochemical control, directly utilizing a drop shape analyzer. Here, the open-circuit potential (OCP) was changed by electrolysis to vary the ratio between ferricyanides and ferrocyanides in the aqueous solution. While a chemical oxidation/reduction is feasible, also an electrochemical oxidation leads to a significant change in the interfacial tension properties. In contrast, a corresponding electrochemical reduction showed only a slight response after converting ferricyanides to ferrocyanides. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) images of the liquid/liquid interface transferred to a solid substrate showed particles that are in accordance with the diameter from light scattering experiments of the bulk phase. Six olefin metathesis catalysts, based on a common ruthenium precursor featuring a hydroxy-substituted N-heterocyclic carbene ligand, were successfully prepared and fully characterised. As proof-of-concept, two of them ([Ru]isonico and [Ru]dmab) were directly immobilised on a solid support. These non-covalently heterogenised catalysts are efficient in different metathesis reactions and sufficiently stable to be used for repeated runs under batch and continuous flow conditions. In nonpolar media such as n-hexane, the catalytic character of the metathesis reactions is truly heterogeneous, and the contamination of the products with ruthenium is very low. © 2021 The Authors. Bis in die heutige Zeit konnten sich auf Basis der Eigenschaften der Röntgenstrahlung sowie der Wechselwirkung dieser mit Materie eine Vielzahl an instrumentellen Röntgenmethoden und -techniken etablieren, die zum Erhalt qualitativer und quantitativer Informationen vielfältiger Probensysteme in nahezu allen naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Bereichen und auch angrenzenden Gebieten dienen. Hierbei hat sich neben den Methoden der Röntgenfluoreszenzanalyse (RFA) und der Röntgendiffraktometrie (XRD) auch die Röntgenabsorptionsspektroskopie (XAS) als besonders aussagekräftig erwiesen. Aufgrund der bei ausreichender Auflösung in den XAS-Spektren auftretenden Feinstrukturen (XAFS) lassen sich neben einer einfachen Elementanalytik vielfältige Informationen über die Bindungsform (Oxidationsstufe, Elektronenkonfiguration, Koordination) des betrachteten Absorberatoms erhalten, die zur qualitativen (Identifizierung oder Strukturaufklärung) sowie auch quantitativen Speziation genutzt werden können. Im Regelfall ist die XAFS-Spektroskopie allerdings abhängig von den besonderen Eigenschaften der Synchrotronstrahlung (hohe Photonenflüsse, geringe Divergenz, hohe Brillanz) und den dazugehörigen Spezialaufbauten (hohe Auflösung), was die Routinetauglichkeit für einfache und wiederkehrende Fragestellungen in potentiell sehr vielfältigen Anwendungsgebieten stark limitiert. So wird seit einigen Jahrzehnten stetig an der Entwicklung von Labor-XAFS-Spektrometern gearbeitet, wobei die Herausforderungen unter anderem in der geringen Brillanz der verwendeten Röntgenröhren liegen. In dieser Arbeit steht ein Labor-Aufbau der Technischen Universität Berlin im Mittelpunkt, welches auf der Anwendung eines Graphit-Mosaikkristalls (HAPG) in VON HÁMOS-Geometrie basiert. These methods are used to get qualitative and quantitative information about several sample systems in nearly every field of (natural/ technical) sciences and related domains. Among other methods such as X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) has proven to be of very high informative value. Due to the occurrence of spectra fine structures (XAFS) at high XAS resolutions a lot of information about the absorber´s binding form (oxidation state, electron configuration, coordination) are obtainable in addition to elemental analysis. This information is used to do qualitative (identification or structure elucidation) and quantitative speciation. In most cases XAFS spectroscopy depends on the characteristic properties of synchrotron radiation (high photon flux, low divergence, high brilliance) and related setups (high resolution), so the suitability for routine use in simple and repeating analytical problems of many potential application fields is limited. Since a few decades developments of XAFS laboratory setups have been in focus of science. In these developments the low brilliance of X-ray tubes is one of the most important challenges. In this presented work a laboratory XAFS spectrometer of the Technische Universität Berlin, based on the use of a graphite mosaic crystal (HAPG) in VON HÁMOS geometry is in focus. The current goals are further setup optimizations, improvements in qualitative and quantitative spectra analyses, examinations of several reference material and sample preparation techniques, investigations to several sample parameters (particle sizes, area densities, matrix compositions), establishments of a spectra library and applications to real samples. Cochlear and deep brain implants are prominent examples for neuronal prostheses with clinical relevance. Current research focuses on the improvement of the long-term functionality and the size reduction of neural interface electrodes. A promising approach is the application of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), either as pure electrodes but especially as coating material for electrodes. The interaction of CNTs with neuronal cells has shown promising results in various studies, but these appear to depend on the specific type of neurons as well as on the kind of nanotubes. To evaluate a potential application of carbon nanotube coatings for cochlear electrodes, it is necessary to investigate the cytocompatibility of carbon nanotube coatings on platinum for the specific type of neuron in the inner ear, namely spiral ganglion neurons. In this study we have combined the chemical processing of as-delivered CNTs, the fabrication of coatings on platinum, and the characterization of the electrical properties of the coatings as well as a general cytocompatibility testing and the first cell culture investigations of CNTs with spiral ganglion neurons. By applying a modification process to three different as-received CNTs via a reflux treatment with nitric acid, long-term stable aqueous CNT dispersions free of dispersing agents were obtained. These were used to coat platinum substrates by an automated spray-coating process. These coatings enhance the electrical properties of platinum electrodes, decreasing the impedance values and raising the capacitances. Cell culture investigations of the different CNT coatings on platinum with NIH3T3 fibroblasts attest an overall good cytocompatibility of these coatings. For spiral ganglion neurons, this can also be observed but a desired positive effect of the CNTs on the neurons is absent. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat zum Ziel, ausgehend vom aktuellen Stand der Technik, die Möglichkeiten der optische Glimmentladungsspektroskopie (GD-OES) für Tiefenprofilanalysen dünner und dünnster Schichten (Schichtdicken = 1 bis 100 nm) zu bestimmen und geeignete instrumentelle und methodischen Modifikationen vorzuschlagen, um die Einsatzmöglichkeiten weiter auszubauen. Dies gilt gleichermaßen unter Berücksichtigung der Anforderungen des Einsatzes im Routinebetrieb (geringe Bruttoanalysezeit und Reproduzierbarkeit) sowie in der Erforschung und der Entwicklung dünner Schichten (geringe Nachweisgrenzen, hohe Flexibilität zum Beispiel bei den analysierbaren Elementen oder der Leitfähigkeit der Proben, geringe Matrixeffekte, etc.). Während jeder GD-OES Analyse finden drei räumlich und zeitlich getrennte Teilprozesse statt: (A) durch das Zerstäuben der Oberfläche wird die Probe in der lateralen Ausdehnung des Anodendurchmessers in die Tiefe abgetragen und in die atomaren Bestandteile zerlegt (Sputterprozess); (B) in das Plasmagebiet diffundierte Partikel reagieren mit dem Analysegas (i. d. R. Argon), dadurch werden die Atome (und Ionen) der Probe in angeregte Zustände versetzt, im nachfolgenden Relaxationsschritt emittieren diese unter anderem Photonen einer charakteristischen Wellenlänge, die (C) alle in einem Detektionssystem (Mono- bzw. Polychromator oder CCD-Spektrometer) in ihrer Intensität als Funktion der spektralen Wellenlänge und der Zeit erfasst werden. Ein Vorteil der Methode, die niedrige Analysendauer bedingt durch den vergleichsweise hohen Sputterabtrag bewirkt, dass die Analyse dünner Schichten innerhalb weniger – im Extremfall sogar nur innerhalb von Bruchteilen von – Sekunden stattfindet. Die vorliegende Arbeit stellt die Ergebnisse der methodologischen Entwicklung räumlich aufgelöster Analyse mittels Scanning Laserablation-ICP-Massenspektrometrie dar. Eine neue Behandlung zur Quantifizierung transienter analytischer Signale wurde für die Wiederherstellung von Konzentrationsprofilen vorgeschlagen. Die Anwendung der entwickelten Modelle auf die räumlich aufgelöste Analyse mittels LA-ICP-MS ermöglicht verbesserten Informationsgewinn und lässt dadurch eine höhere räumliche Auflösung erreichen. Die Anwendbarkeit der LA-ICP-MS für die räumlich aufgelöste Bestimmung der Stöchiometrie in supraleitenden Borokarbiden wurde untersucht. Der Einfluss apparativer Größen auf das analytische Signal wurde aufgeklärt, um die Messbedingungen zu optimieren. Zusätzlich wurden Fraktionierungseffekte untersucht, um die Ursache und deren Auswirkung auf die Analyse supraleitender Borokarbiden zu erklären., This work represents the results of the methodological development of spatially resolved analysis by scanning laser ablation ICP mass spectrometry. A new approach to the quantification of transient analytical signals was proposed to reveal the concentration profile. An application of the developed models on spatially resolved analysis by LA-ICP-MS allows to gain more information from experimental data and hence to achieve better spatial resolution. The applicability of LA-ICP-MS to the spatially resolved determination of the stoichiometry of superconducting borocarbides was investigated. The effect of experimental parameters on analytical signals was elucidated in order to optimize the experimental conditions. In addition, fractionation effects were investigated to identify the causes for fractionation and their influence on the analysis of superconducting borocarbides.
