Presence and correlation between the numbers of Blackheaded and Yellow-legged Gull was studies between 1998 and 2004 on Kolut fishponds in NW Serbia. Both species occurred there from February to December. Spring migration culminated in late February and early March. The period of the most intensive autumn concentration was from October to December. The difference between the numbers in all months as well as between the numbers in spring and in autumn was statistically significant. The period of the most intensive autumn passage of Yellow-legged Gull was from late October to early December. The difference between the numbers between the months was not statistically significant. A high concentration of both species in autumn and early winter was explained by high food availability during fish harvest when ponds were empty. Positive correlation between the numbers of two species thru the year indicated attractiveness of large flocks of Black-headed Gulls for Yellow-legged Gulls. This is especially true for the autumn period, when feeding niches and food is easily accessible. Correlation between the numbers of two species was negative in spring, when accesibility of aquatic animals is lower and large flocks of Black-headed Gulls are lacking. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Traditionally used orchards are important landscape features in Central Europe but their importance for wildlife is mostly overlooked. Their significance as important habitats for birds is best known; even some European endangered species nest in orchards. However, during the last decades orchards have disappeared due the intensification of agriculture (e.g. intensive orchards) and pressures from land development. In Slovenia, for example, more then 5000 ha of its traditionally used orchards were lost since 1990. During three years author studied the breeding birds in 64 traditional orchards in Slovenia. The most common trees in these orchards there have been apple trees. The most common breeding birds in orchards under study were Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus) and Great Tit (Parus major). In orchards studied breed up to six species, what in most cases depend from the size of orchards. In general, the densities of breeding bird species depends from the size of orchards studied which is also known from other habitat types. Morphometric characters (snout-vent length, tail length, head length, head width, and number of ventrals and gulars) were analysed in 58 male and 44 female Italian Wall Lizards, Podarcis sicula campestris, from the Adriatic coast of Slovenia. The Italian Wall Lizard is significantly dimorphic in most characters analysed. Males were significantly larger than females. No differences between sexes were found in the number of gulars, whereas the number of transversal rows of ventrals was significantly higher in females (27-30) than in males (24-27). Prey dropping behaviour was observed in spring 2014 in black-headed gull, Chroicocephalus ridibundus. I observed one incident when a gull dropped a mussel. This was the first observation of such behaviour in the species at least in the Central Europe. Since hooded crows, Corvus cornix, did the same on the same location at the same time I could assume that the gull copied the dropping behaviour from them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In summer 1997 on the island of Pag in Croatia, we studied a selection of perching sites of the Turkish gecko Hemidactylus turcicus. With the transect sampling of 1 hour in 2 days we found 102 geckos. Adults as well as juveniles were founds mostly on vertical walls. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
